Del 27 al 29 de noviembre en el Pabellón 1 de Montjuïc (Barcelona) tendrá lugar la 4ª edición de “Creativa Barcelona, El salón del ocio creativo”.

Nosotros no hemos tenido la oportunidad de ir nunca, pero sin duda no nos lo queremos perder! Hemos estado mirando y hay un montón de cursos interesantes… el problema es que no vamos a tener tiempo de hacerlos todos! Cursos de acolchado para patchwork, bordados, bastidor, ganchillo, con arcillas poliméricas…

Os dejamos aquí el link con el boletín de Creativa de este mes (aquí podreís ver toda la información de los cursos, precios y como apuntarse). En la anterior edición en Barcelona reunieron más de 80 expositores y 25.000 visitantes.

Desprès de la Jornada Fotogràfica i pendent encara les avaluacions -per recollir i publicar- us volem agraïr no només la vostra participació sinó també la vostra motivació i il·lusió pel que, totes i tots plegats, vam aconseguir el dijous dia 12 de novembre.

Per a nosaltres també va ser un moment d’aprenentatges, d’intercanvi de coneixements, d’il·lusió i una gran i bonica experiència.

L’Estadi Olímpic LLuís Companys serà aquest cap de setmana vinent, dissabte 7 i diumenge 8 de novembre (2009), l’escenari d’una prova puntuable de la LG Snowboard FIS World Cup i la competició internacional d’Sky.

Amb un salt gegant de 35 metres d’altura (Big Air), la rampa més alta realitzada a Europa per a una prova del la Copa del Món de Snowboard, equivalent a un edifici de 12 pisos! Una infraestructura de primer nivell on hi participaran els millors especialistes del món en la modalitat de més èxit i projecció del freestyle.

No t’ho pots perdre! Segur que no et deixarà indiferent!!!

It began the next day after visiting the Olympic Park.  The map showed several items beyond the Olympic Park further across the mountain hill of Montjuic.  Our destination:  the famous Barcelona Cemetary.  To begin, there are no metro stops near the cemetary.  Nowhere near, and we haven’t bothered to figure out the bus system which might or might not go there.  So, we took the metro to the nearest point which is below the hill where the Catalan museum and the Olympic Park reside.  From there, we hoofed it.  Up, up, up, stairs, up, hills, up, stairs, up escalators, up walking… On and on and on.

Then, we arrived.  From a distance, it appeared like old apartment tenements that had decayed with age, but as one approaches you see it with better distance perspective and you realize they are not quite so large.  It is a city of the dead, tenement upon stone.  Stone upon death.  And of course I was excited.  We were hoping to find one of our items for our photo treasure hunt there (though we were not so lucky with that).  After some time we determined that we had to enter by the appointed entrance, where I found a sign that indicated no dogs and no photography.  Ok, well my challenge was up, since there were quite a few people in the place as well as a fair amount of security personnel.   I put up my big, and obvious, camera and went with the subcompact in my pocket.

After spending thirty minutes or so in there, I was tired and finished and couldn’t use my big camera so it was time to move on.  On the far side of the cemetary you can see the commercial shipyards and the sea.  They were as busy as the rest of the city.  We finally wound our way down and eventually found the only other exit from the cemetary, which led onto the main highway which runs by the sea all the way from Barcelona to Valencia.  From there we walked along the highway for nearly two hours and finally made it home, with very tired feet and ate some leftover Barcelona Fajitas that I made.  Yes, I finally found tortillas!!  And one Mexican restaurant too, which has the best mojitos and tequilla sunrises ever.  The food there was ok, but not great.  They have a deal if you order two things you get some free nachos.  The free nachos were like 7-11 nachos with chili and fake cheese.  Don’t ask me where they find that fake cheese in this city because I wouldn’t have thought it could be done.  And guess what?  Those nachos hit you later the same way the 7-11 nachos do.  Ouch.  haha.

Day 2: Part 1

We made every attempt to shake the jet lag and get an early move on the day. We headed for Montjuic, which overlooks the city and port of Barcelona. It started as an overcast day, one of the only cloudy days on our trip. The pictures would have come out a bit crisper with the sun and blue sky, but oh well.

We took the teleferic to the top of the mountain and a medieval looking castle stood before us. We made our way to the top of the castle and we were greeted by some of the best views Barcelona has to offer. Beautiful landscapes, architechture, cruise ships, and blue seas surrounded us.

For whatever reason, I can’t get the video to expand larger, believe me I have tried. It is in HD so feel free to go full screen and enjoy the ride up! “I want this sh** forever man!”

Barcelona – 13th July, 2009.

So after I bid farewell to the coastie girls I make my way to the metro via the supermarket. And I make my way into town.

I make my way to the Arc De Triomf. It is a huge arc, pretty much in the same vain as the very famous one in Paris. I think a lot of cities try to steal something from there. But this is a cool looking arc with a spanish flavour to it. Its also not as packed as the one in Paris and there aren’t any cars to mow you down.

After that I head towards the Parc De La Citudella which is basically the Hyde Park of Barcelona. Its a pretty cool park with lots of greenery and space. A cool fountain and some awesome buildings but it doesn’t have the effect that Hyde Park had on me on Christmas morning. Though hyde park didn’t have a Mammoth!

I decide to leave the park and make my way to Montjuic (a forrested hill area and Home of the Olympic site) via the Skyway from Barcelonetta. However I after sweating it to Barcelonetta, I am told that the Skyway doesn’t operate on Mondays. Shit!

A quick metro ride later and I am at Placa Espana. Which gives you a great view of the Museo Nacional D’Art de Catalunya. There is a massive fountain in the middle that at nights lights up with a colourful fireworks display (unfortunately for me it only happens thurs to sunday and I missed it).

I make my way up to the top of the hill, thank fully the Spaniards are creative and installed escalators up to the top. Once at the top, the Museum is shut too. But you get some amazing views of Barcelona. So I head around to the Olympic Park, and run into a couple I met at Pamplona who couldn’t get out when I left and got their stuff stolen (that sucks balls).

The 1992 Olympics were held in Barcelona, it seems an age ago, but it was the very first Olympics that I can actually remember – whether that be the archer who shot an arror to light the cauldron or Perkins winning the 1500m. It still lingers in my memory. And to be at the site of the games is something unbelieveble.

Going around the precint was rather cool. You had some amazing views of the city below. And it also makes you realise how far Stadiums have come along. I rather like these old style stadiums – there is something about them. You can actually go inside the stadium, on one of the levels through the main entrance gate and it has a brief outline of the stadium itself – it still plays host to soccer games and athletic championships.

I go to visit the olympic museum, but as usual, its shut on a monday. So I head back to the hostel and grab a six pack on the way up. I end up meeting a Kiwi slash American and we go out into town that night. We meet his friend at the Australian pub, and then they’re starving and go to find a tapas bar. So I just decide I’ll drink as I’ve had dinner at the hostel. We all order massive steins thinking thats the best. That is til we get the receipt, it actually cost us 12 euros each for a stein.

We try to find a cheaper bar, but go to a cocktail bar that seems a bit pretentious, then find a really cool tobacco club that is actually pretty cool. But everyone wants to go. So since the metro is shut, we have to take the nightbus.

Most expensive beer I have had! But it was so good.

This is where things get a little interesting. We want to get off at our stop, so we keep a look out and try to find it. Though 40 minutes later, we’re told to get off the bus. Once we figure out where the hell we are, which is miles away, we decide to walk in a direction, Just hoping it is going to take us there. We stop every so often to figure out if we’re going in the right direction.

We eventually hit the street that our metro is on, and let out a big whoop. And start making the climb up to the top of the hill. Just outside the hostel we run into some other people from the hostel. And one very drunk and very happy danish guy. Dressed in a tiny tiny bikini. Obviously he had a good night. We talk to them for a bit, and then I bail and hit the sack.

Vaak kennen de toeristen de stad beter dan de inwoners zelf. Althans, ze komen, geleid door hun (reis)gidsen op plaatsen waar de locals nooit of slechts bij toeval eens komen. Zoals de Jardins de Laribal op de Montjuïc, een prachtig groene oase die de snelste verbinding ter voet is tussen de stad en de Fundació Miró, een museum waar op een zondag een lange rij toeristen staat en Catalaanse ouders hun heel jonge kinderen meenemen naar toneelvoorstellingen bedoeld voor heel jonge kinderen.

Vroeger kwamen wel meer Barcelonezen in deze wonderschone tuinen, omdat er een zaal was waar huwelijken werden gevierd en de pergola’s, fonteintjes en trappen een ideale plaats waren om de fotoreportage van het bruidspaar te maken. Die zaal bestaat niet meer, maar wel het restaurant Font del Gat, een terrasje naast een historisch gebouw van modernist en Gaudí-tijdgenoot Puig i Cadafalch waar de drukke stad, op de achtergrond, veel verder lijkt dan hij eigenlijk is.

Ernaast ligt één van de beroemdste waterbronnen van Barcelona, de Font del Gat compleet met klein watervalletje. De Bron van de Kat werd in heel Catalonië beroemd door een populair liedje dat opa’s en oma’s aan hun kleinkinderen zongen en nog steeds zingen:

The Military Museum of the Castle of Montjuïc is history. The first pieces left the museum the past week and they will be distributed in different sites. Other pieces will be restored to the old fort and will remain exposed as historical memorial.

Arms and armours, flags and banners, paintings and portraits, and even lead soldiers for an amount of 1435 pieces will be moved to the Historic Archive of the City, the Ethnological Museum and History Museum of Barcelona.

The pieces came from local historical collections and some of them had to be restored on site, due to its poor conditions. The Delegate of Culture of Barcelona City Hall, George Martin, has confirmed that some of the showcases of the museum “were not touched for decades”.

Divendres passat va ser l’esperat concert de Coldplay a Barcelona. La 3a vegada que es planten a la nostra ciutat en un any, després de fer un concert gratuït al que només hi van poder anar uns quants afortunats i d’un directe al Sant Jordi. Ara tocava fer el salt a l’olímp de la ciutat.

Per distreure’ns durant la tarda (i fer-nos dentetes també) ens van portar els The Sunday Drivers (els domingueros ), un grup de pop-rock de Toledo que no tenia fitxat encara. Gens malament la veritat, podrien ser la barreja entre Vetusta Morla i Lori Meyers però cantant en anglès. Van tocar a penes 1/2 hora però van deixar anar perles com aquesta o aquesta altra.

A continuació, ja amb el sol ponent-se, van arribar els famosíssims però desconeguts per mi, The Flaming Lips. Tot uns showmans: el cantant caminant sobre el públic dins una bola de plàstic gegant, conilletes blanques per l’escenari i confeti, molt confeti! Hits: Do You Realize??, The Yeah Yeah Yeah Song. Ara, part del públic de lo més estúpid, cantant el Viva la Vida mentre encara estaven a l’escenari… ¬¬

I després de l’aperitiu…

Un 0 patatero, pels tècnics de so, lamentable, no es pot cagar-la de forma més espectacular, us veu lluir. Espero pel bé dels assitents a concerts que no us tornin a contractar en la vostra puta vida. Heu sigut capaços de trencar el rotllo de 63.500 persones des de bon començament del concert amb els sorolls i distorsions que sortien pels altaveus cada cop que el grup li donava canya al so. La chapuza ja va ser màxima quan veu deixar sense so tot el cantó dret de l’estadi (sobretot els de la grada, xiulets i crits de no se sent inclosos). I a sobre tampoc veu ser capaços d’arreglar-ho en les 2h que va durar el concert, l’única “solució” que se us va ocórrer va ser abaixar el volum en els moments problemàtics. Patètics. Només us va salvar que el propi Chris Martin sortís a disculpar-se en públic pels problemes de so cap al final del concert.

Però per sort l’actuació del grup, tot i els problemes de so, va ser fantàstica. Ni els amenaçadors núvols que planaven sobre Montjuïc van aconseguir deslluir-lo. La seva confirmació com a grup de grans estadis, unint-se al club dels U2, AC/DC i Bruce Springsteen. Amb una posada en escena espectacular, globus i boles caient sobre el públic, imatges i vídeos envolvents, confeti amb forma de papallona plovent sobre l’estadi i un joc de llums fins i tot epilèptic en alguns moments, van anar desgranant la majoria de cançons del seu nou disc amb maestria i un so molt viu. No es van oblidar tampoc dels seus ja grans clàssics: Yellow, Clocks, In My Place, The Scientist, etc.

Es notava que estaven gravant el concert per fer-ne un DVD. Esprints de Chris Martin per l’escenari i les dues plataformes a banda i banda, solos de piano o versions més electròniques i ballables de temes com God Put A Smile Upon Your Face o Talk. Avançat ja el concert, van reaparèixer sobre una plataforma montada al centre de l’estadi, des d’on es van tocar un parell de cançons acústiques, inclòs un emotiu homenatge a Michael Jackson i la seva Billie Jean amb tot l’estadi cantant a coro (de fet tot el concert va ser cantat a coro).

En resum, un concert per no oblidar. Tant pel bo com pel dolent. Aquest estiu he pogut gaudir de dos concertes d’U2 (l’un l’obertura de la gira al Camp Nou i el segon a Chórzow, Polònia) i puc assegurar que l’energia que desprenen els Coldplay igual o superior a la d’U2 (serà l’edat?), això si, en l’apartat tècnic encara han d’aprendre dels grans.

Empolgada com a pesquisa divulgada hoje pela Forbes que trazia a informação de que Barcelona é terceira cidade mais feliz do mundo, atrás apenas do Rio de Janeiro e Sidney (Austrália), decidi subir ao topo da cidade, ou seja, ao castelo de Montjuic.

O passeio é mais rápido e totalmente agradável para quem decidir utilizar o metrô (estação Paralelo)+ funicular+ teleférico.

Entrei em uma cabine do teleférico sozinha (que medo!) e senti pela primeira vez na vida que desejava ter mais peso ao meu lado….a pequena cabine balançava ao sabor do vento.

Vencido o medinho, a subida até o castelo construído em 1640 e remodelado no reinado de Henrique V é emocionante. 

Um passado de reis, princesas e príncipes, conspirações e passeios inocentes nos jardins….no final da guerra civil espanhola, o Montjuic foi utilizado como prisão.

 Jardins, flores, uma ponte e vários canhões rodeiam a construção que tem também a vista mais bacana de Barcelona que vi até agora. A delicadeza das flores e a força dos canhões estrategicamente posicionados para o mar.

Tirei várias fotos do porto lá embaixo e apesar do vento forte, cheguei bem próxima do pequeno muro de proteção para ver o mar.

Atualmente, o castelo Montjuic é sede do museu militar – que já estava fechado quando cheguei. Aconteceu hoje à noite um coquetel para convidados que eu não tive muita paciência de perguntar detalhes…andar ao redor do castelo já havia sido minha maior experiência…

Militants, simpatitzants i amics d’Esquerra s’han aplegat al castell de Montjuïc per commemorar el 69è aniversari de l’assassinat del president Lluís Companys. Enguany l’acte ha comptat amb la presència del president d’Esquerra, Joan Puigcercós, del president de la Federació de Barcelona, Oriol Amorós, del president del grup municipal a l’Ajuntament de Barcelona, Jordi Portabella, i de Joan Laporta, com a representant de la societat civil catalana.

A les sis de la matinada, més de 200 persones han començat la marxa de torxes fins al glacis de Santa Helena, punt exacte on en aquesta mateixa hora de l’any 1940 va ser executat el president de la Generalitat de Catalunya, Lluís Companys. La presentació dels parlament ha anat a càrrec d’Oriol Amorós, president de la Federació de Barcelona.

Joan Puigcercós considera que fer política és “liderar una idea i anar contracorrent. Companys s’havia de dedicar al negoci familiar però va escollir fer política, va començar tractant la qüestió social i va acabar fent qüestió nacional, una justícia social i democràtica”. El president d’Esquerra ha remarcat que “tenim un projecte de democràcia catalana amb una societat justa i democràtica i aquesta era ja la lluita de Companys”. Tant aleshores com ara les gent està lluitant per la llibertat, és per això que Puigcercós ha fet extensiu l’homenatge a Companys a “tots els catalans i les catalanes que han sembrat la llavor per a aquest país”.

Jordi Portabella, ha destacat el paral·lelisme entre l’actual moment polític i el del president Companys, “ell va ser detingut per rebel·lió militar i ara no ens deixen expressar en llibertat” exemplificant-ho amb l’Estatut i el Referèndum, “l’Estatut va patir el ribot, va ser aprovat i ara està al constitucional on hi ha la frontera i el reducte de l’espanyolisme. Els mateixos que designem un advocat compromès amb la falange per al referèndum d’Arenys”. I, emulant el discurs del president companys el 6 d’octubre ha acabat amb el crit de “catalans el moment és important i gloriós”.

Les paraules com a membre de la societat civil catalana enguany ha estat les del president del FC Barcelona, Joan Laporta, que ha definit l’avui com “un moment de plenitud nacional per aixecar-nos i fer justícia”, una justícia que no va tenir el president Companys que “és un president màrtir perquè va tenir un judici que només respon a l’odi, no van tenir cap respecte a les bases jurídiques”. Laporta volgut fer una menció explícita a Josep Sunyol, un altre president màrtir, en aquest cas del FC Barcelona, que també va ser afusellat. El president del Barça s’ha dirigit als polítics recordant que a vegades se’ls fa callar per interès nacional “a mi també se m’ha fet callar i tant de bo aquesta flama de les torxes ens faci recordar que la paraula ens farà més fort i lliures”. Per cloure el seu parlament Laporta ha donat veu a una de les frases més emotives de Companys, “catalans, cadascú al seu lloc i Catalunya al cor de tots”.

Un cop acabats els parlaments s’ha fet l’ofrena floral acompanyada del cant dels Segadors i de les salves d’honor per al president Companys. Finalment, els assistents han degustat el tradicional esmorzar de coca i xocolata.

Sortida per descobrir la vegetació natural de la muntanya de Montjuïc en els indrets encara poc pertorbats i exposats al mar. Podrem veure com la vegetació s’adapta i és capaç de sobreviure a les condicions extremes de sequera i salinitat. També podrem observar-hi l’evolució de la vegetació i les noves espècies foranies que formen part del paisatge.

This weekend, Emmy went to visit Chaz in Sweden, leaving me lonely in our lovely dorm room.  What to do without my fearless roomie?  Well, apparently I eat whole baguettes, forget to turn the lights on and don’t wash the dishes.  I also sleep a lot more.

But seriously, this weekend… Matt and I spent a lot of time on Montjuic on Friday, wandering around the gardens.  We tried desperately to find “Font de Gat” on our way up the mountain, but failed.  Maybe it was a ninja cat fountain.  We did see some fountains and statues, some more understandable than others.

We wandered around Montjuic for a little while, then took the funicular (!!!) down the mountain and back to the dorms.  Katie has some friends visiting from Rome, so we all went out to eat and to the clubs.  Emmy’s cousin, Dan, filled the Liss void for the night, as he was in town with his program (from Madrid).

The next afternoon, Matt, Tanja and I took Renfe out to Sitges to the Sitges Film Festival.  We planned on seeing a series of short films about really strange horror topics, but arrived too late and went to a free screening of this Bollywood movie, Hawa (review here).  It was horrible.  Tanja left after a half an hour and Matt and I somehow stuck it out to the end.  I guess you get what you pay for…

The film festival itself was really interesting.  It was a fantasy/sci fi/horror type of festival so everyone was wearing their favorite black cult classic t-shirt and and there were Star Wars action figures sold at the kiosk.

I did not match.

Then I came back and made my own food (take that, Emmy) and am now heading down to the beach for a brief outing.

PS i did not see quentin tarantino at the film festival, though apparently he was there.

There is excitement in the Barcelona air September 23-27. The city celebrates her “biggest party”, la Festa de la Merce, in honor of Barcelona’s patron saint, Mare de Deu de la Merce (the mother of God of Mercy.)This is street partying at its very best, so come on down and visit us.

It all started in the 13^th century when “La Merce” appeared to a local priest and the king encouraging them to found a new order to help the victims of the Barbary pirates. Fast forward four centuries and she appears again, this time to save Barcelona from a plague of locusts. In appreciation the City Council declares her the patron saint of Barcelona

Nowadays Barcelona pulls out all the stops to honour her patron saint and the result is a street festival par excellence. Here are a few of the traditions that simply cannot be missed. You have papier mache giants called gegants and capgrossos (giants and big heads) parading through the streets of the old town.

Then in public squares of the old part of town you come across the iconic castells, giant human pyramids usually topped by a young child. Coveted prizes go to the highest of these human towers. At night is when things get a little wild with the carrefoc and Devil’s Night.
