I searched online for Myanmar metal stuff last night and found a forum. With great expectations, I clicked on the link.

What I found?

They were talking about… nu-metal??? Yes, nu-metal. Frigging hell mallcore stuff like Slipknot and Marilyn Manson. There were even people who mentioned Linkin Park and Flyleaf.

Seriously! There was nothing on it but mallcore. -.-

Next one was a blog. He was talking about Slipknot and how much he likes them and on another blog was an article on Myanmar metal scene and the author was talking about Bullet For My Valentine, Avenged Sevenfold and Trivium. Frigging Metalcore.

There were even some people who said,”Slipknot is Death Metal”. Ya, go die. It pisses me off when I hear people saying crap like that.

Mallcore, Nu-metal, Metalcore, BFMV, A7X, Marilyn Manson, BMTH, blah blah blah and it goes on and on and on in a never finishing mallcore whirlpool. This is what’s happening  in Myanmar!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Metal albums aren’t that rare anymore. You can pretty much buy them here. (Last week I got Black Sabbath:The Dio Years and Megadeth’s Endgame.) Or you can download them via Mediafire or 4shared (which I usually do).

Still people are still drowning in the mallcore whirlpool… labeling themselves “metalheads” with Slipknot songs in their mp3 players.

“¡Machetazos!” is a highly precious 7-inch because it catches Brujeria at their brutal, bass-y, stepping-on-skulls-with-a-leather-workboot best. Far from the inferior power violence-influenced material that came later, “¡Machetazos!” flaunts a death-metal focus and production so deep and heavy you can feel your balls shrinking like ruby-red plums in the sun.

Truth be told — and it pains me to say this because many will try to prove me wrong — but Brujeria’s early material might be the heaviest fucking sludge-death I’ve ever heard. That means heavier than Cannibal Corpse, Necrophagist, Death, Deicide, Morbid Angel, Blues and the entire Corrosive/Give Praise/Metalblade/Relapse rosters.

The key to ‘heria’s unmitigated heaviness is their side-project status, which allows each member to totally let loose without having to worry their careers (or even their identities) will be compromised. But, just so you know, Brujeria contains members of Fear Factory, Napalm Death and even Faith No More.

No matter; you’ll forget about the principles involved as soon as the giant brick of guitar buzz hits you square in the grill. OUCH MOTHERFUCKER! 

The riffs are simple but — like Korn’s early head-bashers — insanely effective, produced for ultimate pounding power. The drums and bass are simple-but-effective as well, the percussion often diving into pools of blast-beatery and double-bass bashery. The vocals, however, are the main attraction, distorted, slightly off-rhythm — as all the best underground singers are — and, most importantly, it’s all in Spanish so I can learn while I listen!

Seriously though, if you feel there’s a gap in your collection where there should be some truly murderous death-metal, Brujeria can fill it like a shallow grave. If not, check them out anyway; your entry into the seedy underbelly of drug-runner hardcore will soon begin.

Cztery lata oczekiwania to dużo. Przez ten czas pamięć o Lost Soul zdążyła się wytrzeć, a i w zespole sporo się pozmieniało.

Jednak najlepsze jest to, że Greckiemu i jego nowym kolegom (Domin, Desecrate i Czajnik) czas i zmiany tylko pomogły, bo czwarty studyjny album zespołu pt. Immerse in Infinity to solidny kawał death metalowego rzemiosła. Powiem nawet więcej: ten album jest perfekcyjny w ramach swojego gatunku.

Konstrukcja krążka jest szczelnie zamknięta. Immerse in Inifity to tylko osiem utworów, ale to i aż osiem naprawdę dobrych, rozbudowanych ładunków wybuchowych. Kompozycje napisane w całości przez Greckiego są długie (od 5-ciu do 9-ciu minut), ale na pewno nie męczące.  Nieomal godzinna dawka death metalu z najwyższej półki rzuca o glebę od początku do końca.

Podoba mi się, że zespół nie kombinował za dużo z ubarwianiem treści Immerse in Infinity, bo czasami klasyczne partie, sięgające Terrorizera i Morbid Angel, brzmią lepiej niż tzw. nowe brzmienia. Ok, może nie jest to ten wymiar surowości, bo wrocławianie nie stronią od mrocznych sampli i tego typu sztucznych drobiazgów (Revival, …If The Dead Can Speak?, Breath of Nibiru czy Simulation), ale właściwie brzmienie utworów jest w taki sposób wyeksponowane, że główną uwagę skupiają te elementy muzyczne, które wymagają umiejętności większej niż posługiwanie się komputerem, a więc: perkusja, bas, gitary, wokal.

Poziom pracy instrumentów na nowym Lost Soul wymyka się wszelkiej skali. Dawno nie słyszałem death metalowego krążka, w którym bębny są tak potężne, a przy tym wyróżnia je wszechstronność. Gdzie bas jest jak cios skrytobójcy – pojawia się i z miejsca zabija. Gdzie gitary napędzają jednocześnie sprawdzone, ale i świeże ciężkie i szybkie riffy, niejednokrotnie wykończone mięsistymi solówkami. Wreszcie gdzie wokal nie poddawany żadnym rozległym operacjom brzmi agresywnie i wiarygodnie.

Najlepsze, że pomimo indywidualnych atutów każdej sekcji całość tworzy zgrane – piorunujące – wrażenie. Na nowym Lost Soul nie ma sytuacji, w której można pochwalić kogoś z zespołu bardziej od innych. Siła tej grupy w 2009 roku polega na bezbłędnej współpracy.

Na Immerse in Infinity dominują ciężkie i szybkie bomby, ale zespół nie przestraszył się też zagrać wolnej, ważącej kilotony kompozycji (Breath Of Nibiru). Lost Soul raczy słuchaczy jeszcze w kilku kompozycjach wolniejszymi fragmentami, ale jak wspomniałem we wstępie akapitu, większą część albumu wypełnia to co właściwie death metalowi w najlepszym znaczeniu tych słów.

I choć to niepopularne, dobrze w tym miejscu odwołać się do Behemotha, który robi gigantyczną furorę w mediach, ale najmniej się tam mówi o muzyce zespołu. Lost Soul pewnie nigdy nie zbliży się do komercyjnego pułapu black/death mertali z Pomorza, ale za to będzie kojarzone przede wszystkim z perfekcyjną muzyką. O to przecież chodzi.

Nie mam wątpliwości. Geniusz w swoim gatunku.

I begin this review with an apology.   This is definitely not the album submitted for my thoughts.  However, the album submitted to me will require a bit more time, as it’s quite  interesting to me and I want to adequately summarize it. So without further ado, I bring you a modern death metal classic.

Paths of Possession already have an edge on most other bands competing for your ear  simply based on their other musical ventures.  Vocalist George “Corpsegrinder” Fisher also lends his immense vocal talents to the group Cannibal Corpse.  Guitarist Richard Brunelle has earned his metal points with legends Morbid Angel. You may think you know what you’re in for. You probably don’t.

While this album is certainly more straightforward than other albums I’ve mentioned to this point, this is not the brutal facemelter it would seem to be. Amidst the chugging guitars and blastbeats there are soaring melodic leads and the lyrics actually deal with things aside from amputation and the like. While the Florida death metal sound is still  dominant with this bunch, you can hear the classic metal influences (a la Maiden and Mercyful  Fate) creeping in more than most bands of this nature are usually comfortable with.

The lyrics to this album seem to be pretty intense,  though sometimes it’s hard to piece  together.  Opener Memory Burn is a horror story straight out of Iraq, describing having to indiscriminately kill anyone and everyone, children included.  The Ancient Law is about killing someone over an act of infidelity.  The band says there is a lyrical concept tying it all together.  I’m not fully sold on that yet, but the words are memorable and more well put together than most death metal can claim.

In summary, this album is not going to be the release that pushes metal to new boundaries. This isn’t going to cause new bands to form worldwide.  The End of the  Hour is simply a perfectly crafted death metal album by seasoned veterans of the genre.  Leave it to the old men to remind us why we’re here.

Za czasów mojego liceum pierwszym i często ostatnim pytaniem zadawanym nowo poznanej osobie było: czego słuchasz?

Muzyka określała osobowość, mówiła kto jest kim w świecie.

Brakuje mi tego co łapało za serce w muzyce. Szukania zespołów, których się wcześniej nie słyszało. Oczekiwania na nową płytę tych już poznanych. Teraz także czasem czekam na nowe płyty ulubionych wykonawców, ale brak już tego wariactwa, kiedy odliczało się dni do kolejnego wydania.
Kumpel, z którym dzieliłem upodobania i z którym lubiłem sobie pogadać bez skrępowania na tematy muzyczne wyjechał do Reichu. Temat się urwał. Szlag mnie trafia, ale okoliczności (czyt. kobiety i dzieci) nie pozwoliły posadzić nigdy dupy koło głośnika i posłuchania sobie razem ulubionych kawałków.

Tak jak miesiąc temu z Jamesem poleciałem w kosmos, tak w ten piątek odleciałem w słuchawkach z kings of leon. Nie pamiętam tytułu. Taki dość melodyjny utwór. Nawet bez szaleństw. Ale ktoś na żywo podzielił się ze mną tym kawałkiem dźwięku, który go niezwykle kręci.

Moja własna muzyczna historia?

Prosty mainstreamowe dźwięki dzieciństwa, a więc to co w radiu lat 80-tych. Trochę płyt zbieranych przez rodziców. Ulegającej mdłym modom Mamie i rockandrollowemu Tacie. Dyskoteka Pana Jacka. Polski Rock – ale ledwie, ledwie.
Przeobrażenie w liceum. Morbid Angel oraz Iron Maiden. Dzięki Olsefrano! W końcu padłem na cyce przy Angel Dust zespołu Faith no More. Oraz Big Cyc. Później KAaaaazik!
Na przełomie wieków odkryłem muzykę elektroniczną i Paktofonikę.

Nothing tops the sweet sounds of a good heart jolting death metal tune, and it is hard to beat awesome b-horror movie action. So why not combine the two into what should be the ultimate culmination of sight and sound. I guess that is my ideal experience. Not sure if there are any dorks out there that agree…well, I take that back, there have to be a couple. More specifically, how about Brian Trenchard-Smith and his magnificent creation Night of the Demons 2! If you want to see a classic horror movie with a touch of some metal, please read on and also watch an uber classic scene from Night of the Demons 2 featuring Morbid Angel!

The Night of the Demons movies are classics, here is a quick rundown. There is an old funeral parlor that is the legend of a small town…the parlor is called Hull House by the locals. In the first movie, some teens decide to go and party at Hull House on Halloween. During the party, they have a seance that releases a terrible demon…Angela. I am sure you can image what happens next…Mayhem! So how to stop this demonic terror?

Well, the land of Hull House is on evil land and the land is surrounded by an underground river. The demons can’t cross the river so as long as you don’t step on the land of Hull House, problem solved. Or so the first movie would have us believe. In Night of the Demons 2, Angela is released from Hull House and brings her demonic madness to a local Catholic school. This is the point in the movie where everything comes undone as the death metal onslaught of Morbid Angel accompanies Angela as she dances her way into demon hearts of the underworld!

The Morbid Angel tracks selected for the deluge of demonic deaths are Rapture and Vengeance is Mine both featured on the 1993 Giant Records release Covenant. Giant Records was an Indy label subsidiary of Warner Bros and is now defunct. The musical exploits of Morbid Angel can be followed on their regular label Earache Records.

There are a couple things I would like to point out with this clip (cause I am a dork and I can). If you decide to bless yourself at any point in life and watch both of these movies, it is interesting to note that Angela’s demon voice sounds a lot like Dave Vincent’s vocals in the song Rapture. Also, in all my years of going to death metal shows I have never seen kids try to perform regular dance moves to death metal; only moshing. This clip serves as proof why this “trend” never caught on. Lastly, I love the timing of Dave Vincent’s death growl in Vengeance is Mine right when Angela looks at the nun that is calling here out. Yeah, metal…demons…does it get any more evil?

It is necessary to pass on a two-lane highway as most of those ridiculous people on the road are all conspiring to torment you, to make you feel a brief but thorough frustration that tickles the veins in your eyes, a frustration that is mostly made out of fury and vibrating blood and the general attitude you have toward people you consider abortive human waste.

The road between Las Vegas, Nev. and Reno, Nev. is mostly two lanes interrupted by 25 mile per hour towns that seem largely abandoned and you may or may not take it upon yourself to imagine eyes peeking from the slots of darkness in each house’s splintered wood.

Those who pass regularly on this road while wishing vaguely sociopathic ends on the offending driver’s extended family (best left unexplained, though an uncomfortably large percentage involve broken glass and anal stimulation), those who pass doubtless register visions in which they, assured of their clear path, buzz coolly into the opposite lane expecting to rev past an offending car so as to leave them thoroughly covered in dust and shame, when suddenly from the edge of the horizon, which due to desert heat initially resembles a blurred, wet infinity that belies the stark, dry reality, from horizon’s edge appears a semi-truck, dark, huge and foreboding, in an immediate, irresponsible proximity, and you look to the right and the car designated for passing all of a sudden has grown at least 14 extra tires and hoods in both directions, all of which seem extremely unnecessary in your heightened sense of imminent mortality and may seem a bit menacing as well, as though the driver were reacting poorly to your previous mental slurs regarding his or her catatonic grandmother, and the semi-truck (a name which, though an acknowledged colloquial shortening of “semi-trailer truck,” seems darkly humorous now in this hour of panic) has swallowed the earth and sky and all peripheral vision in its black march, and in the distance a horn fruitlessly wails against the inevitable carnage, and seconds before any real impact you register extensive visions within visions of metal carving clean through bone and glass exploring a whole lot of unexplored skin and organs, and fire, so much fire, and all that “this is your life” treacle that comes with the territory, and finally a deafening sound that resembles some amateur’s approximation of death noise, all tires burning into the road and metal oppression, and the first aural equivalent that comes to mind is unexpected, because instead of some Van Morrison album that merely reminded you of mortality and that you expected to carry you wistfully into thoroughly-bleached clouds, all you can think about is Morbid Angel, which is unfortunate because all your ironic cylinders are telling you that, man, metal was never supposed to be the soundtrack to your violent death, that’s too fucking obvious, but I guess that’s what these dudes were going for at all times, this deathly sound, all black skeletons grasping for wet relief in a world of black fire.

William Burroughs acuño el termino Heavy Metal en su novela de 1964 Nova Express, donde nombraba a uno de los personajes “Uranian Willy The Heavy Metal Kid”. El crítico de rock Lester Bangs tomó ese término, para describir el sonido de Black Sabbath, que incorporaba tambores que retumbaban como truenos, bajos plomizos, guitarras entrecruzadas y vocales de sirena, con letras que hablaban del lado oscuro de la humanidad. Su álbum debut de 1970 “Black Sabbath” dio origen a un género, que ha mutado desde entonces, en un imparable bacilo, sin cura conocida.

Para finales de los ’60 grupos como Cream, Blue Cheer, Steppenwolf, MC5 y The Stooges aceleraron el volumen y la energía de la música, pero el Metal era más extremo, tanto sónica como visualmente. En los 70 Blue Öyster Cult se acerco bastante a la forma en que le Metal sería forjado en el futuro con la trilogía de sus primeros álbumes, donde mezclaban las ideas del escritor H.P Lovecraft con imaginería histórica de la segunda guerra mundial. En 1975, en el London Hammersmith Odeon, sin embargo, BÖC tuvieron como soportes a una formación embrional de Motörhead, que serían los representantes del Metal en toda su salvaje gloria. En otro lado y a través de todo el Reino Unido otras cepas del género estaban siendo incubadas. En 1982 la banda de New Castle, Venom, lanzó Black Metal, un punto de referencia para los grupos de guitarra adoradores de cabras, que hicieron del Black Metal en género por derecho propio. Arrastrados, pateando y gritando dentro del movimiento denominado “New Wave of British Heavy Metal”, el acercamiento de militantes satanistas de Venom, fue causa de burlas entre los críticos, pero devorado por los devotos de la música extrema que consideraban la inflexible barrera de distorsión y caos de la banda, la única alternativa a las bandas mainstream como Def Leppard y Girlschool. Los himnos de Venom (descriptos por el bajista Cronos como “las canciones de amor de Satanás) como “Poison” y especialmente “Live Like an Angel, Die Like a Devil” fueron responsables de desatar hordas de extremistas escandinavos del Black Metal.

Punta de lanza del movimiento, fueron grupos legendarios como Mayhem, Burzum y Darkthrone, los grupos nórdicos convocaban oscuros y escalofriantes estallidos sónicos que consumían por completo al oyente y, como una ceremonia mágica, no ofrecían ninguna salida hasta que el hechizo/canción estaba completo/a.  

Igualmente importante en este punto fue el surgimiento del Death Metal y el Grindcore, un hibrido salvaje de Heavy Metal y Hardcore-Punk. El disco debut del grupo Napalm Death, Scum (87), le dio al Death Metal/Grindcore el OK para infectar a la nación. Otros participantes significativos en la propagación de la enfermedad fueron Extreme Noise Terror, Carcass, Entombed, Autopsy, Morbid Angel y Caníbal Corpse, todos los cuales se especializaban en tocar a velocidades inhumanas, con letras que se concentraban en los horrores viscerales de lo mortuorio, y los efectos posteriores de un ataque nuclear.

Aunque estaban completamente distanciados de la escena Metal, el grupo artcore de New York, Swans (Junto a Sonic Youth, y la sobreviviente de la No Wave Lydia Lunch) fueron igualmente responsables de despellejar al rock, para exponer los huesos. El disco de 1983 de Swans, Filth, proyectaba puro poder a través de episodios amplificados de sonidos vibrantes y ondas metálicas de guitarras afiladas. Los retratos violentos de dominación sexual y sumisión, tortura y aislamiento social, del  cantautor/vocalista Michael Gira, eran pintados aún más oscuros, por las explosiones de baja frecuencia del grupo, que amenazaba con absorber todo el aire del estudio. Como los primeros practicantes de ritmos abstractos, volumen colosal y letras con una imaginería desolada- factores que resuenan subliminales, en el trabajo de las huestes más jóvenes- Swans, también estaban concientes que, dentro de su capullo aparentemente impenetrable de hardcore noise, otra manifestación musical, más sutil y provocadora estaba tomando forma.

Bajando la velocidad y subiendo el volumen, el rock baboso de Swans alimentó los primeros movimientos de la escena Stoner Metal, aunque sus verdaderas raíces pueden ser rastreadas hasta los primeros discos de Black Sabbath y el grupo seminal de Dylan Carlson, Earth. El espíritu de la serie de estudios electrónicos, Drift Studies, del compositor minimalista La Monte Young, es detectable en el uso distintivo que hace el Stoner Metal, del uso de extensas resonancias desafinadas de guitarra y bajo, pulsando particularmente fuertes en los hipnóticos y poderosos zumbidos de Sunn O))).

Otros fuera de la jerarquía del Metal, lo están usando como una herramienta para canalizar sus ideas hacia áreas musicales más extremas. Esta categoría incluye a los artistas del sello electrónico Mego, Pita, Kevin Drumm y Russell Haswell. En Japón, el emperador noise, Merzbow, siempre ha apoyado al Metal como un medio para sus propias creaciones, junto con Masonna y el guitarrista Zeni Geva. El compositor y músico de New York, John Zorn, utilizó al Metal de manera consistente en sus gurpos/proyectos Naked City y Painkiller, alimentándose de la energía de la música y la imaginería tabú de sus carátulas de discos, mientras que el joven trío noruego Noxagt, acercándose a la herencia de su país en el Black Metal, en una variante más cuidadosamente ejecutada, usando una estructura instrumental, compuesta por bajo, batería y viola eléctrica, señala que el Metal, como género, se esta reconfigurando.

Combinado con el poder, intensidad y concentración que la música demanda, el otro atractivo del Metal para el no aficionado, es que, sigue siendo uno de los últimos bastiones de la música underground. Con su propia red social – que produce y distribuye discos (muchas veces en tiradas limitadas y en vinilo) y reúne a los fieles cuanto una banda en particular esta en el lugar – que sigue dentro de la tradición inaugurada por el Free Jazz y el Punk Rock. Formada en 1990 en Olimpia, Washington, por el guitarrista y dronemeister, Dylan Carlson, junto al guitarrista y fundador del sello Kill Rock Stars, Slim Moon y el vocalista Greg Babior, Earth tomo su nombre de la primordial encarnación de Black Sabbath. Después de grabar su álbum debut Extra-Capsular Extractions en 1991 – con contribuciones de Kurt Cobain, el bajista Dave Harwell y el bajista/percusionista, Joe Preston – el grupo se dividió, dejando a Carlson y Harwell a cargo de la producción del segundo álbum, Earth 2, un apocalíptico ataque de guitarras drone que sentó las bases para el todavía no nacido Stoner-Rock. Entregado con la amenaza y velocidad de un bombardero stealth calentando sus motores, Earth 2, exitosamente confundió y enojó a todos los que previamente habían etiquetado a Sub Pop como un sello grunge,  desacelerando todo y reduciendo el moshpit a puré con una frecuencia de arrastre super-grave de una parte a otra de la barriga del rock, relacionando todo, desde “Iron Man”  de Black Sabbath, hasta los experimentos con drones de la Velvet Underground post-La Monte Young. En su momento Earth 2, fue considerado como una broma, pero con la llegada de grupos como Growing y Sunn O))), el álbum es ahora visto como una gran influencia. Desde su reedición, hecha por Sub Pop en “special low frequency versión” y como triple vinilo, es sin dudas su obra maestra.

En 1995 Carlson y el nuevo miembro de Earth, Ian Dickson, hicieron una breve aparición en Disobey, el club que el sello Blast First tiene en Londres, donde interpretaron “Ripped on Fascist Ideas”, una pieza para dos guitarras que luego fue editada en edición limitada, por Blast First. Sunn Amps and Smashed Guitars Live, contiene este track y agrega cuatro ejemplos más del primer Earthquakes de principio de los ’90, como bonus. El riff Metal de frecuencia grave evocado en SAASGL, también se asomaba en el álbum de 1996, Pentastar: In the Style of Demons, que Carlson grabo junto al guitarrista Shawn McElligot y el baterista Mike McDaniels. Aquí un versión estabilizada del grupo dio más énfasis a la producción un circulo de canciones cercanos a la perfección, el hotrod verde lima de su portada, era el perfecto indicador de donde se encontraba el estado mental de Earth como banda. Enterrado entre dos losas masivas de monumentales riffs, hay una serie de igualmente  estimulantes que van desde explosiones de amplificadores desmantelados, al Burzum de la última época Ambient-Drone, hasta la hostilidad de los experimentos de Fluxus con pianos rotos.

Originalmente formada por O’Malley y Anderson en 2000 como una banda tributo a Earth, el trueno de las resonantes guitarras del dúo Sunn O))), fueron diseñadas específicamente para revolver las entrañas de su audiencia. Tomando el nombre de la marca de amplificadores utilizada por Earth, las grabaciones y presentaciones de Sunn O))) se asemejan a rituales. Su álbum debut, ØØ Void, indicaba hacia donde se dirigían, sus cuatro extensos tracks, llenos de estremecedores zumbidos de guitarra eléctrica, despertaban los poderes dormidos de Earth y Swans. Más tarde ese mismo año, editaron The Grimmerobe Demos, que originalmente venía envuelto en una bolsa plástica negra, con el logo de la banda pintado en dorado, como un talismán secreto. Grabado en 1998 y más crudo que ØØ Void, Grimm Robe, despojó el sonido de O’Malley y Anderson, llevándolo de nuevo a las bases en las invocaciones sónicas como “Black Wedding (Lament For A Nordic Vision Buried By Time & Dust)” y “Dylan Carlson”. Su grabación más brutal hasta la fecha, es el portal perfecto para el emocionante umbral de dolor de Sunn O))).

Para Flight of the Behemoth, el grupo invito al alquimista noise Masami Akita (aka Merzbow) para que mezclara dos tracks. La movida dio como resultado el taladrante pulso del ruido blanco electrónico, ondulando la oscurecida barriga de su monstruosa creación.

Los invitados en White 1, incluyen al anticuario psicodélico Julian Cope aportando voces y a un ex miembro de Earth, el bajista Joe Preston, mientras que White 2 presenta los derroteros operísticos de Attila Csihar (vocalista de la legendaria banda noruega de Black Metal Mayhem, en el disco Mysteriis Dom Satanás). Es la constante atención a los detalles dentro del género – junto al contacto realmente físico que existe entre el artista y su audiencia, a través del sonido – lo que hace constantemente valuables los experimentos de O’Malley y Anderson con Sunn O))).

Descriptos por Dylan Carlson como “la banda de sonido de dos babosas cogiendo”, el disco Absolutego, del trío japonés de Stoner Rock Boris, tomo el arte de las guitarras drone inspiradas en los Melvins, a nuevas alturas, en una sola canción de más de una hora de duración. Sin embargo su mejor logro, es canalizar el ruido abstracto del noise-rock, transformándolo en minimalismo eléctrico antes de finalizar con un efecto agudo de guitarra que suena como un piano electrónico tocado por Charlemagne Palestine. 

Amplifier Worship es más variado con canciones que van del himno al drone, explosiones a toda velocidad de electricidad que recuerdan a los primeros Boredoms, hasta trabajos más experimentales para guitarra y percusión. El hambre del trío por la experimentación los llevó a unirse con varias figuras claves del underground japonés. En Boris With Merzbow, la barrera noise electrónica de Masami Akita, actúa como un aleteo ambient de fondo y una fuente de poder para que Boris alce el volumen de sus amplificadores naranjas y juntos curven el aire.

SHEER HELLISH MIASMA (MEGO CD 2002)

La pasión del músico electrónico oriundo de Chicago, Kevin Drumm, por el rock extremo en general y el Black Metal en particular, tuvo libre albedrío finalmente en Sheer Hellish Miasma, álbum producido para el sello austriaco Mego. Completo con una sutil cubierta diseñada por Tina Frank, con sus iniciales en letras goticas doradas sobre fondo negro, SHM es un destilado de cada disco de Metal que Drumm escuchó, que el devuelve como una serie de dañados estallidos de ruido blanco. En el momento de su lanzamiento SHM, represento el sonido del futuro Metal; siete años después, la personalizada interpretación del género a cargo de Drumm, todavía suena peligrosamente fresca.
