Better to write for yourself and have no public, than to write for the public and have no self. –Cyr

Better to write for yourself and have no public, than to write for the public and have no self.
–Cyril Connolly

Here’s another good quote from Janice Semmel. I’ve heard this quote before, but Janice brought it to my attention once again

Loving this quote because once again it reinforces my belief in being yourself and knowing yourself and not being influenced to a great degree by anyone else. When you start doing things for other people instead of yourself, you start to lose who you are in those action. When you’re making choices based on another person, how do you know what you truly want?

This is something I did one day just for myself. I love it and I'm designing another one to get hopefully soon

I don’t write this blog for anyone but myself. I don’t care how many views I get and I don’t care what you think of my opinions. I’m challenging myself to blog regularly to see if I can, and I like it – for the most part. Maybe not doing it everyday, but it gives me a goal to achieve. I think after I’m done with the 30 day quote one, I might start up one about pictures. Probably not 30 consecutive days, but 30 days total. Sound like a good idea? I think so! haha.

Anyway, have a good night… or morning, or afternoon

Questioooon: What’s something you like to do just for yourself?

11.16.09

Do you know where your children are? #NYC. AH I remember seeing that as a kid on Fox5 then watching X-files. I used to think I would get abducted. I always had trouble sleeping. Some of my earliest memories are of being up at night, I don’t know what it is. I’m awake. I was born that way. My last post it was 4:07AM and that was oh about 18 hours ago. I had planned to stay up but then fell asleep around 5:15 and woke up at 6. 45 minutes of sleep to start a Monday. I left my apartment at 6:30 and from Brooklyn off I was into Manhattan L to the 5 and I got off at 86 street still really in a daze not quite tired not quite awake not quite morning really unfeeling of day or night, just me being and I felt good.

First thing I saw – and this always helps – and is always a blessing because it’s always hard for me to get up early – the sunrise.

And of course I lucked out with the weather running on no sleep isn’t easy when it’s freezing cold or raining. It was nice. But I knew that the night before when I decided ‘it’s gonna be one of those nights’. 7 AM I reach my destination and the crew is all there and we do our thing, now I will explain more about shooting crew / rigging crew as pertains to film set in a more informative blog but I’ll say I am on the rigging crew and we are not necessarily tied to the camera while it is rolling. So today while I started with the shooting crew in the afternoon I was off to Queens via a crew van to prepare the stages for tomorrows shoot. (We the rigging crew are in first – last out – on-call) It was easy, and I got to go home relatively early. It all worked out for me. I even took at an hour nap at lunch. So now 10:25 PM I’ve been up from Sunday Noon-ish that makes 36 hours a awake with a couple of seperate hour naps and I’m good. I wonder how this will read to me tomorrow being not in the not quite debilitating but definitely felt feeling of sleep dimentia. It’s all good. I’m gonna get some rest I’m off tomorrow.

love&Peace

For the past couple weeks, I’ve been timing my mornings from the time I get out of bed to the time I leave for class – a total of two hours and 15 minutes from 7:30 to 9:45, a number that’s remained surprisingly consistent. Those few weeks I spent depriving myself of sleep have conditioned me to follow, almost mechanically, the alarms I set. Right before I leave for class, I quickly write down how much time I’ve spent on a number of activities. Today, I made a pie chart out of those numbers.

What this chart doesn't show: how much time I spend reading the same paragraph over and over

At this point, it’s not clear that I read more effectively in the morning than late at night. Granted, at least half that time is spent going through my feed reader anyway, but I still can’t tell whether doing any of my school reading in the morning is helping. Crunching these numbers (well, letting Excel make this fancy chart) has been pretty informative a few other things, however.

I never realized how much time I spend watching TV. Sure, it’s probably less than all of my roommates, but I could read most of the stuff I watch in the morning (CNN, Weather, ESPN) in half the time.

The same goes for showering. I spend at least five minutes just standing in the shower.

Cleaning up after myself takes time. If my roommates can leave their dishes out, why can’t I?

This was actually useful. I bet I could analyze my studying the same way, but I’m kind of what I might find.

Last week I created a series of new product on zazzle using another photo from one of my hikes in the snow last winter. In this photo the pale blue winter sky is visible through the forest canopy, as the sun’s rays stream through the evergreens. Glistening drops of melting snow fall through the air toward the ferny forest floor covered in a light dusting of snow.

Good morning. I revisited a piece today that I wrote last winter. Its nice how a song can evolve over time even without playing or listening to it. Sorta like an old song you grew up with, the feeling remains the same, but somehow we shape elements of the piece to become our own.
This one was written while staying with my friend, Nina in LA (check out her page, she’s an incredibly talented actress and artist). There is a beautiful grand piano at her home placed perfectly by the window. One morning I sat down and this song happened to come along. The light in that room created such a beautiful melody, it was so peaceful and inspiring. When a song comes along like that I tend to name it after something relating to the location, this one is named after her street. However, the song sounds more like a child than a street, so I thought of a kid’s name with the same first few letters..
peace in,

My eyes burn. I blink, and it feels like velcro. I hear no traffic, only the fan from my laptop. Back under the covers, I set my finished bowl of oatmeal beside me. Warm now.

The closed blinds shadow the room. Morning lands full force, breaking through the slits of the upward, tilted slats. It’s going to be beautiful outside.

I chat a little, with one of the most attractive friends I’m privileged to have. He’s not online much, and I thought it would be fun to say hi. I smirk.

The resident finch’s chirps fill the silence; I now hear a lawn mower waking up, too.

My body doesn’t want more sleep. My eyelids are still viscous, sticky.

Reluctantly, my pajamas come off, and the morning chill braces my legs, my arms, my stomach.

Hastily: Jeans, t-shirt, hoodie.

It’s time for more oatmeal.

I take a deep breath. Fresh air expands my lungs.

I open the blinds. Sunlight swells my room and strikes through my still viscous, sticky eyelids.

A smile automatically raises my cheeks, as smoothly as ever.

I almost don’t notice.

It’s back to work after a wonderfully relaxing weekend.

Our friends, Muryl and Shelley introduced us to Geo-caching this weekend. What a lot of fun! A great way to get some exercise while familiarizing yourself with the place you live in and the surrounding countryside (or city-side if you’re a city dweller.) I think it could become quite an addictive little hobby. I just may have to seriously consider pursuing it. With winter coming on, though (maybe), I will probably wait til Spring. I’ve been thinking of all kinds of ways you could incorporate geo-caching into your other activities. Would love to get Timothy and Hailey involved. I think they’d have a blast.

As I said in the opener of this blog, I had a nice, relaxing weekend. Started a new book — a collection of Stephen King short stories called Just After Sunset. So far, it’s vintage. Loving it! Also got working on my photos; trying to learn Photoshop. Am I the only person who thinks Photoshop is difficult to use? I struggle all the time. I guess I’m going to have to find a course or class somewhere to get some help, because right now I’m about ready to pitch it.

Well, I hope everyone has a great day, a great week. Talk to you soon.

Strawbale House Project:

Tomorrow we will be getting additional supplies needed for the next phase of of the house building project. Once the things we need are lined up we’ll begin making parts again and I am sure I’ll have some new pictures to post of the ongoing progress.

@ 4: 18 a.m. – okay I’m starting to get hungry now. I was stuffed and everything before…not sure if my hunger came on suddenly or if it built up over time…I think I’m going to take a little nap before I eat anything…and besides, I have to wait for my SP bread to rise and Loblaws doesn’t even open til 8 so I can get 2.5 hours of sleep and still have plenty of time.

bkfast @ 6: 06 a.m.
0.5 cup oatmeal + flax + wheat germ + 1 tbsp goji, 1 fig, 0.5 banana + 0.5 tsp sf & pumpkin seeds + 0.5 cup yogurt + 0.25 cup milk + coffee powder + cocoa + 1.33 tbsp PB
1 slice SP bread

<s>green tea</s> <s>coffee! + sesame powder – SIP IT IN BETWEEN EVERY BITE!</s> water

695 kcal

water count: I

@ 6: 05 a.m. – okay I’m really hungry now…but I’m glad I went to sleep first! And I finally remember what my oatmeal smells like–THOSE ASIAN EGG WAFFLE THINGS!!! So yummy smelling!!

@ 7: 13 a.m. – Whoo so I had a pseudo-PB-binge after breakfast today…I say pseudo because I didn’t actually eat that much PB during the oatmeal, so I was “making up for it” in the aftermath and was about to go into full binge mode but stopped myself midway through…and unfortunately, since I baked bread, breakfast ended up being huge, but I’m full now, and

I am going to Loblaws in half an hour, so it’s all good.

@ 7: 23 a.m. – wow what just happened–I had a chocolate chip cookie + yogurt topping! I’m guessing that was about 160 kcal…shyte dude. I think I’m going to do some lower body yoga later in the day….my shoulders ache [they were aching yesterday during all the down dogs ] and I’m kinda itching to go for a run…maybe I’ll go running tomorrow morning? Going to the gym hasn’t been very appealing to me this past week…so maybe I’ll do that.

@ 9: 36 a.m. – went for a 40 min run! For some reason I decided I’d rather go running than go to Loblaws and spend money! Go figures! And the walk back took 15 mins. Love it! Sleep deprivation does funny things to my energy levels.

post-run meal @ 10: 10 ish – 2 slices deli turkey + pumpkin
3 tbsp harvest crunch + cheerios + 0.125 cup milk
1.5 slice bread [107 kcal] + 2 tsp PB

416 kcal

water count: 1/2

Didn’t get hungry right after my run til 30 mins later! I think next week I might buy low carb bread just to balance out all the bread-ing I’ve been doing for the past 2 or so weeks!

There is a tree in my mom’s driveway that is up against the neighbors fence. This tree has wound itself through the neighbor’s fence many times over to get to sunlight. Its fighting for its survival and doing whatever it takes to make it. That made me smile this morning because it’s exactly where I want to be and what I should be doing. Fighting for my survival. Just my smiling thought for the day.
