Powerflow Yoga will host a grand opening on Oct. 9 in Morristown at 3 p.m. Powerflow Yoga, the heate

Powerflow Yoga will host a grand opening on Oct. 9 in Morristown at 3 p.m.

Powerflow Yoga, the heated, Vinyasa-style yoga studio with locations in Chatham and Livingston, will host a public Grand Opening celebration at its new Morristown location on Tuesday, Oct. 9 at 3 p.m.

Morristown Mayor Timothy Dougherty will join the studio’s owner and other local dignitaries for a ribbon cutting ceremony officially opening the new facility located at 40 Market Street on the ground floor of The Metropolitan at 40 Park. Members of the public are invited to attend the celebration, tour the facility, meet staff members and enjoy light refreshments. Guests will also have the opportunity to sign up for a 10-class package for $135 — a 25% discount off the normal price.

“We’re excited to bring Powerflow Yoga to Morristown,” said Jerry LePore, the studio’s owner. “Morristown has been on my radar for a couple of years as we’ve had a growing number of Morristown residents coming to our studio in Chatham. We did some research and saw that Morristown offered a large customer base for us, including a budding population of young professionals. There is a lot of growth and development going on in town and the time to open up couldn’t be any better.”

Mr. LePore chose the street-level retail space within the Shops on the Green because it offered a unique 2,000 square-foot space in a location with a lot of foot traffic right in the heart of downtown Morristown.

“It came down to finding the right location within Morristown and we believe we have it here at 40 Market Street,” Mr. LePore added.

The Shops on the Green anchors the 76-unit 40 Park luxury condominium building and the 130-unit Metropolitan at 40 Park rental building. The retail is highly visible and easily accessible from Market Street, the Morristown Green and the 40 Park public piazza which leads to an enclosed public parking garage. Other tenants currently include Roots Steak House, Urban Table, Starbucks, Qdoba Mexican Grill and the AT&T Store.

“With a respected reputation and strong local following, Powerflow Yoga is an excellent addition to downtown Morristown and the Shops on the Green,” said Debra Tantleff, a Vice President of Development at Roseland Property Company, which is developing 40 Park and The Metropolitan at 40 Park in partnership with Woodmont Properties. “They’ll be able to benefit from the extensive residential base and abundant daytime workforce prevalent in downtown Morristown, while also complementing the well-rounded retail line-up we’ve assembled here.”

Powerflow Yoga brings a unique style of yoga to Morristown that accommodates skill levels ranging from beginner to advanced. Most classes will be taught in a heated environment — with temperatures reaching up to 98 degrees — which accelerates the opening of the pores externally. Classes will be held throughout the day, from morning to evening, to allow people with varying schedules to participate. Styles that incorporate the Vinyasa flow, such as Jivamukti, Anusara and Ashtanga, will be included. There will also be classes that will focus on meditation and relaxation, to offer a balance to the vigorous, full-body workout the Vinyasa style provides.

For more information on Powerflow Yoga, visit www.powerflownj.com. For more information on retail opportunities at the Shops on the Green, please call Silbert Realty & Management Company at (908) 604-6900.

via Morristown Patch

LIDIA BASTIANICH

Celebrity chef to appear May 17 at Mayo Performing Arts Center.

She closes every one of her television programs with the familiar, “Tutti a tavola a mangiare,” Italian for “everyone to the table to eat.”

Indeed, celebrity chef Lidia Bastianich’s signature phrase embodies two of the most important parts of her life: food and family.

The Public Broadcasting Service mainstay will bring her familial and gastronomical personality to Morristown on May 17, when she appears at the Mayo Performing Arts Center.

Bastianich said it’s very much part of Italian culture to be very family oriented.

“Everyone lived in close proximity,” said the 65-year-old chef, who was born in Croatia, then part of the Italian Kingdom. “It was a great support system. The table never failed to be full. I always had a place to eat.

“The table is a place we as humans can come together and meet and relax,” Bastianich added. “My show is like that.”

Her PBS programs, which have been staples on the channel since 2001, often include cameos and assistance from Bastianich’s brood, including son Joe, daughter Tanya Bastianich Manuali and Bastianich’s 93-year-old mother, whom everyone affectionately calls “Grandma.”

Bastianich said she is not transferring her television program to the stage, however.

“It’s not exactly like cooking,” she said. “It’s difficult in front of a theater to make everyone see what you’re doing and benefit from it.”

Instead, Bastianich said a portion of the event will be historical, as she tells attendees about her journey from Pula, Croatia, to North Bergen, NJ and, ultimately, to Queens, where much of the family core still lives.

“I live within walking distance to my daughter,” Bastianich noted. Her mother lives upstairs, she said.

The night also will include presentations, video clips featuring the family, some recipe demonstrations, tips, even a little Q&A. It will be followed by a book signing and photo opportunities.

While Bastianich is now known internationally for her culinary prowess, she said she never planned this far in the process, certainly not when she and former husband Felice Bastianich opened their first restaurant, Buonavia, in 1971. There, Bastianich served as host, and eventually began to pick up cooking techniques and skills that would lead to her future success.

“I had no such vision,” said Bastianich, who now oversees restaurants in New York, Pittsburgh and Kansas City. “I had a lot of passion, I loved what I did and I loved sharing it. The more I shared, the more people wanted. An opportunity came along, and I took it seriously.”

“Why do I love food to so much? All of this is part of it,” Bastianich said.

For more information, including tickets, for Lidia Bastianich’s May 17 appearance at the Mayo Performing Arts Center in Morristown, click here.

The countdown has officially begun.

There are 8 calendar days remaining until the gun goes off at the Third Annual Colonial Challenge 5K Event at 10 a.m. on Sun. Oct. 23rd. The Morris Educational Foundation invites you, your family members – young and old, colleagues, neighbors, and the like, to come out and show your support for the Morris Educational Foundation at this year’s race.

Our event last year turned out tremendous results, and we’re hoping to top our numbers this year! Every single registration puts valuable grant money back into our children’s school district, providing valuable educational opportunities.

To register go to www.practicehard.com, click on “Event Calendar” and register yourself for the race. Remember to sign up early to guarantee yourself a Colonial Challenge T-Shirt.

Whether you’re sprinting, walking, running, strolling or jogging, there’s something for everyone. There’s even a 1-Mile Kids’ Race. Consider joining or even starting a race team: pull together a few fellow participants, give yourselves a fun name, and tackle the Challenge together. You can even consider training together.

There’s still plenty of time, even if you’ve never done a race event before. Follow this link to create a one-month training schedule for yourself.

But wait, there’s more! To further your fitness fun, look for an opportunity, before or after your race, to have your golf swing professionally analyzed by Frelinghuysen Middle School’s own Bruce Chamberlain. A modest per-minute suggested donation of $1 will guarantee you golf practice swinging, swing-analysis and tips for improving your game. Great for kids starting out their game.

See you there… Rain or Shine!

There is a $5 cover donation at the door, along with a $1 donation for every song you sing. All proceeds of 50/50’s and basket drawings will go towards NJAS as well. The bar will offer drink specials for the night, and all guests must be 21 to enter. Sponsors include Jersey Club Sports, Points Sports Health and The Famished Frog’s Side Bar .

Just Cause Foundation chose to support NJAS after hearing the story of its youngest board member and current Army Staff Sergeant, Brian Capo, who lost his mother to HIV/AIDS. Capo was just 8 years old when he learned his mother was diagnosed with HIV. NJAS specifically helped him when his mother used NJAS’ resources to get him out of the NYC foster care system. “I would not be who or where I am today without NJAS. ‘Karaoke for a Cause’ is a creative way to raise awareness about the HIV/AIDS crisis in New Jersey, while having a lot of fun at the same time!” remarks Capo. “I see it as a benchmark event for other similar organizations to follow.”

Jenna Rocca, who is spearheading the karaoke fundraiser under her Just CauseFoundation banner and would like to raise $1,000 from the evening, says, “I look to support a variety of causes, but local charities need the most help, especially during these tough economic times. I hope this is just the first of many other charity-driven events for community-based organizations to come.”

“Community service and giving back have always been important aspects of my life. I’m so grateful to all my sponsors, friends and family—without them, this event wouldn’t be possible, ” she added.
Rocca’s efforts, in fact, have inspired others to also help NJAS. Her boss and triathlete-in-training, Thomas Hofstetter, chose NJAS as one of the three charities he’s raising money for through his next race in May. Donations can be made at his fundraising page: http://www.firstgiving.com/fundraiser/Hofstetter/nj-aids-services.

For more information on “Karaoke for a Cause”, visit the event page on Facebook, or contact Jenna Rocca directly at JennaRocca1@gmail.com.

NJAS’ mission is to respond compassionately and responsibly to the HIV/AIDS crisis by providing supportive services, housing opportunities, prevention strategies and community education in New Jersey. Its vision is to help create a community where the social issues related to HIV/AIDS are abundantly met.
