A different approach to firing up your team

Vikings head coach Brad Childress dressed up as a female flight attendant on his team’s flight to Pittsburgh last Saturday to help block out pressure, ESPN’s Rachel Nichols reported the other day. Now, thanks to Minnesota tight end Visanthe Shiancoe (who knows a thing or two about cameras himself), there’s some visual proof.

Also, another reason Childress dressed up was because he’d warned his team earlier about treating stewardesses with respect, according to the Twitter of ESPN’s Chris Mortensen. I wonder if that means he shows up to the next game dressed as a referee, so maybe his players won’t intentionally plow them into the ground in retaliation for phantom penalty calls.

Dans ce chapitre de la trilogie, le jeune et timide Hobbit, Frodon Sacquet, hérite d’un anneau. Bien loin d’être une simple babiole, il s’agit de l’Anneau Unique, un instrument de pouvoir absolu qui permettrait à Sauron, le Seigneur des ténèbres, de régner sur la Terre du Milieu et de réduire en esclavage ses peuples. À moins que Frodon, aidé d’une Compagnie constituée de Hobbits, d’Hommes, d’un Magicien, d’un Nain, et d’un Elfe, ne parvienne à emporter l’Anneau à travers la Terre du Milieu jusqu’à la Crevasse du Destin, lieu où il a été forgé, et à le détruire pour toujours. Un tel périple signifie s’aventurer très loin en Mordor, les terres du Seigneur des ténèbres, où est rassemblée son armée d’Orques maléfiques… La Compagnie doit non seulement combattre les forces extérieures du mal mais aussi les dissensions internes et l’influence corruptrice qu’exerce l’Anneau lui-même.
L’issue de l’histoire à venir est intimement liée au sort de la Compagnie.

Premier volet de la trilogie de Peter Jackson, ce film est un chef d’oeuvre. Il constitue la deuxième adaptation du roman de Tolkien, après une version animée sortie en 1978.

Les effets spéciaux réussis, les orques sont très réalistes, les Nazgûls vous font une peur bleue et Gollum est plus vrai que nature.

La musique d’Howard Shore crée une ambiance unique, propre à la Terre du Milieu et au monde créé par Tolkien. Enya et son May it be clôt très bien le film.

El actor norteamericano Viggo Mortensen, afincado en Argentina durante mucho tiempo, recibirá el Gran Premio Honorífico del Festival de Cine Fantástico de Sitges en la clausura del certamen.
Mortensen, último invitado confirmado, asistirá además a la proyección del filme «The Road», que cierra el festival, protagonizado además por Charlize Theron, Robert Duvall y Guy Pierce.
Además de Mortensen, también recibirá el Gran Premio Honorífico Malcolm McDowell, y el Festival rendirá asimismo homenaje al director, productor, guionista y actor Walter Hill, productor de la tetralogía de «Alien».
Precisamente, la presente edición del Festival de Sitges estará dedicada al 30 aniversario del estreno de «Alien», una película que marcó un antes y un después en el subgénero cinematográfico de monstruos.
Park Chan-Wook, Clive Barker, Herschell Gorodn Lewis, Ivan Reitman, Elías Querejeta, Antonio Isasi Isasmendi o Jack Taylor son otras de las personalidades que recibirán premios a lo largo del certamen.
Además de «REC 2», el cine español estará presente en la sección oficial con los títulos «Orphan», una producción norteamericana del director catalán Jaume Collet-Serra, e «Ingrid», de Eduard Cortés, esta última a competición
La 42 edición del Festival levantará el telón el próximo 1 de octubre con el estreno de «REC 2», la esperada secuela del filme homónimo codirigido por Jaume Balagueró y Paco Plaza.
Jaume Balagueró y Paco Plaza vuelven a Sitges, donde ya presentaron la primera entrega en 2007. La trama de la película ocurre horas después de los acontecimientos del primer filme, que transcurre por entero en un edificio de Barcelona al que acuden los bomberos, la policía y un equipo televisivo tras una llamada de alarma.
La segunda parte tiene el mismo concepto claustrofóbico de la primera y comienza con la llegada de los cuerpos especiales de la policía al citado edificio para investigar lo ocurrido en la primera.
La sección oficial Fantástico dedicará este año una atención especial a la cinematografía emergente de países como Filipinas, Grecia o Indonesia, al lado de cineastas clásicos del género como Park Chan-wook y su vampírica «Thirst».
En esta sección se exhibirán «Yatterman», de Takashi Miike, la inquietante película sobre la maternidad «Grace», de Paul Solet, representante del mejor cine independiente de terror norteamericano, o la historia de terror hiperrealista «Kinatay», de Brillante Mendoza, que traslada el infierno a las calles de Manila.
El cine griego estará representado por «Kynodontas», de Giorgios Lanthimos, premiada en Cannes como mejor filme en la sección «Un certain regard» y que cuenta la historia de una familia que encierra a sus hijos en una casa.
«Surrogates», de Jonathan Mostow, un filme de ciencia-ficción fuera de competición protagonizado por Bruce Willis, y «Moon», de Duncan Jones, la mejor película del festival de Edimburgo, se exhibirán también en esa sección.
El cine europeo aportará títulos como «The Countess», de Julie Delpy, un retorno al mito de la condesa Drácula y «Ne te retourne pas», de Marina de Van, un «forcejeo» inquietante entre Monica Belluci y Sophie Marceau.
Además de «REC 2», el cine español estará presente en la sección oficial con los títulos «Orphan», una producción norteamericana del director catalán Jaume Collet-Serra, e «Ingrid», de Eduard Cortés, esta última a competición.
El jurado de la sección oficial Fantástico estará integrado por los actores John Saxon y Amanda Plummer, el director Neil Marshall, el crítico Jordi Batlle y el escritor Toumas Riskala.
El 10 de octubre tendrá lugar la Sitges Zombie Walk, segunda edición de uno de los acontecimientos del Festival, que en la edición del pasado año reunió a más de 2.000 personas caracterizadas de zombies y que este año tendrá un carácter especial por el reciente fallecimiento de Michael Jackson.
El festival ha programado asimismo el ciclo Focus 3D, dedicado a las películas en tres dimensiones, con títulos como «Toy Story», de John Lasseter; «The Hole», de Joe Dante; «Coraline», de Henry Selick, o «La noche de los muertos vivientes», de George A. Romero.

The reason is tough to be about his health wich is affected by his acting career . If he is going to act again or if he permanently stops being an actor is yet to be announced .

Le Seigneur des Anneaux : Le retour du roi est le troisième volet de la trilogie de Peter Jackson, adaptée du roman homonyme de J.R.R. Tolkien. Le Seigneur des Anneaux est à l’origine composé de six livres, les deux premiers forment La communauté de l’Anneau, les deux suivants, Les deux tours, et les deux derniers, Le retour du roi.

Peter Jackson choisit d’adapter le contenu de ces livres avec une certaine liberté quand à la répartition de l’action. Ainsi, la mort de Boromir est présente à la fin du premier film, mais n’est racontée qu’au début du Livre III. De même, la fin du Livre IV n’est montrée à l’écran que dans Le retour du roi, tandis que la moitié du Livre VI a été oubliée.

Cet “oubli” de l’épisode du “nettoyage de la Comté” est très compréhensible. Il constitue comme une sorte de deuxième fin, et aurait gâché le dénouement du film.

En dehors de ces petits détails, Le retour du roi achève la trilogie du Seigneur des Anneaux en apothéose! Le style est fidèle aux deux films précédents, les effets spéciaux sont bluffants et la musique d’Howard Shore est toujours aussi belle, et est à deux reprises accompagnée par des chansons chantées par les personnages. Il faut dire que les chansons sont très présentes dans l’oeuvre de Tolkien. En intégrer dans les films montre donc la volonté de respecter l’oeuvre originale. On pourrait croire que le fait que des personnages chantent dans un film de ce genre est  rendu ridicule.  Mais pas d’inquiétude, Howard Shore et Peter Jackson ont parfaitement réussi à les intégrer. Mention spéciale au thème de la chanson “Into the west”, chanson d’ailleurs interprétée pendant le générique de fin par Annie Lennox.

Le retour du roi est, comme les deux autres opus, esthétiquement parfait !

En esta ocasión, el director canadiense se vale de un cómic de John Wagner y Vince Locke para hablarnos de algunos de sus temas favoritos: la violencia, la mutabilidad del ser humano, la sexualidad…

A David Cronenberg, en el invierno de 2003, le fascinó el guión: “Basándose libremente en la novela gráfica, el guión de Josh cuenta la historia de una ciudad pequeña del centro de Estados Unidos. Tiene elementos clásicos sin ser una imitación”. “Tiene mucha fuerza emocional”, asegura. Tom Stall (Viggo Mortensen) lleva una vida feliz y tranquila con su mujer –abogada (Maria Bello) – y sus dos hijos en la pequeña ciudad de Millbrook (Indiana) hasta que una noche su existencia idílica se ve destrozada cuando frustra un violento intento de robo en su restaurante. Tom percibe el peligro y salva a sus clientes y amigos matando en defensa propia a dos criminales buscados por la justicia. Aplaudido como un héroe, la vida de Tom cambia de la noche a la mañana y de repente se encuentra convertido en el centro de atención de todos los me-dios de comunicación. Incómodo con esta fama no buscada, inten-ta volver a su vida normal, pero un hombre amenazante y misterio-so (Ed Harris) llega a la ciudad para enfrentarse a él porque cree que Tom es el hombre con quien tiene una cuenta pendiente del pasado. Cronenberg no tardó en convencerse y alistar a Viggo Mortensen y Maria Bello para interpretar a la pareja protagonista, su primera elección. Y pudo además contar con Ed Harris y William Hurt, dos actores americanos con los que deseaba trabajar desde hacía años. Con respecto al reparto, el director declara que no podría haber sido mejor, con actores muy serios que se dedican de lleno y se meten en la piel de sus personajes. Cien jóvenes actores hicieron pruebas en Los Angeles y Toronto para el papel del hijo y resultó seleccionado Ashton Holmes. Heidi Hayes, un descubrimiento local de seis años de edad, completó el grupo familiar.

Viggo Mortensen, declara que nunca ha sintonizado tanto con un director como con Cronenberg: “Me gusta su forma de contar las historias. No sólo es completamente original en su modo de entretener a los espectadores con un drama psicológico sino que lleva al público a plantearse preguntas difíciles sobre la naturaleza de la violencia y la identidad”.

“Viggo es mi tipo de actor”, confiesa Cronenberg. “En primer lugar porque esta clase de actor no tiene miedo ya que no intenta proteger la imagen que tiene de sí mismo como protagonista tradicional. Esto le da una paleta mucho más variada con la que pintar y puede añadir muchos más matices. Necesitaba la excentricidad, que es más típica de un actor secundario, pero a la vez la presencia y el carisma del protagonista”. “Y Viggo era perfecto. No sólo es muy carismático sino que posee otras muchas cualidades que me hicieron pensar que tenía la suficiente profundidad para un papel tan complejo. Se obsesiona con los detalles, lo cual me encanta. Siempre está muy centrado en los movimientos de su personaje, su forma de hablar y de vestir. Es un verdadero espectáculo verle trabajar e interactuar con él”.

Referente a la violencia en la película, Cronenberg afirma que buscaba una violencia”verdadera y brutal. Se trata de una brutalidad real y del tipo de violencia que verías en una pelea callejera, por ejemplo. Algo bastante tosco, muy sangriento y nada bonito, lo contrario a las elaboradas y elegantes secuencias con coreografía que vemos en otras películas”.

Reflexionando sobre el tema central de la película, Maria Bello plantea esta pregunta: “¿Es posible llegar a conocer de verdad a otra persona?” En cambio, la pregunta de William Hurt es la siguiente: “¿Es posible cambiar lo que eres?”

I always feel somewhat uncertain when concocting this kind of list, as most of the films I feel strongly about tend to ultimately disappoint. Thus, I often go out of my way not to think about the films I’m looking forward to, or indeed seek out information on forthcoming projects I may have heard of. Too much information can lead to a high level of anticipation, and a high level of anticipation usually results in underwhelming results. Therefore it is with tentative steps that I announce the following dozen rumblings on the filmic horizon. Please feel free to join in and add your own most anticipated movies, or indeed mock me (constructively, please) for my choices. Also note that many films set for a very late 2009 or early 2010 release have been stricken from the list. As intriguing as projects like Terrence Malick’s The Tree of Life and Rob Marshall’s Nine are, I fully expect to see them later than expected, if that makes any sense at all. Thank you and enjoy!

12. Tetro | Francis Ford Coppola

First up on the list is a choice I still have many reservations about. Mr. Francis Ford Coppola may be a little more rotund and wine-addled than he once was, but the man is still obviously enthusiastic about his work. It’s a shame then that we have to go back  at least thirty years (twenty, if I’m being nice) to find something of any note from the great director. His most recent film, 2007’s Youth Without Youth was an extremely ambitious work, though ultimately fell down thanks to a distinct lack of direction. Tim Roth’s presence made Youth Without Youth bearable enough, and with Tetro Coppola will link up with yet another impressive acting talent in fellow Italian American Vincent Gallo. The heritage of both actor and director looks set to play an important role in Tetro, which centers around a young man of said descent looking for his long-lost brother in Buenos Aires. Sadly, the involvement of Coppola isn’t enough to interest me these days, but with the elusive Gallo on board, we could indeed be in for something  special – and, dare I say it, a return to form. 11. The Limits of Control | Jim Jarmusch

It’s been 18 years since Ivorian actor Isaach De Bankolé began working with Jim Jarmusch, and in that time the pair have collaborated on a total of 3 different projects. It has however taken until now for the director to trust his friend with a lead role, something that many have professed that De Bankolé has indeed earned. He plays a mysterious loner whose struggle to complete a particularly obscure criminal job is as spiritual as it is literal. De Bankolé is joined by a host of acting talent in Bill Murray, Tilda Swinton (who both had roles in Jarmusch’s last outing) and Gael García Bernal. The fact that this is a Jim Jarmusch film set in contemporary Spain is interesting enough, but the presence of award-winning Australian cinematographer Christopher Doyle (In the Mood for Love, Hero, Paranoid Park etc.) takes it up a notch. Unfortunately, while the trailer for The Limits of Control is promising enough, the early press reaction has been less-than enthusiastic. [TRAILER]

10. Mammoth | Lukas Moodysson

For someone who has followed Lukas Moodysson’s work for some years, it seems only natural that the Swedish writer/director is taking the next step, though some may have blindly berated him for it. It’s now over 10 years since Moodysson achieved international recognition for his grounded portrayal of teen angst with Fucking Åmål, an effort that was followed up by a handful of slightly lesser films including the impressive Lilja 4-ever. It seemed only a matter of time, then, before the director would move onto something bigger, so his latest project Mammoth could be described as a long time coming.  Mammoth represents Moodysson’s first genuine attempt at making a film overseas, and stars Gael García Bernal and Michelle Williams as a successful New York couple who are forced to face a dramatic chain of events when Bernal’s character makes a business trip to Thailand. While Moodysson’s recent work isn’t the most endearing,  the involvement of two talented young actors in Bernal and Williams gives Mammoth a degree of promise. [TRAILER]

09. Thirst | Park Chan-wook

Korean filmmaker Park Chan-wook attained international fame with his renowned Vengeance Trilogy back in the early part of this decade, so it was only expected with the rise of popularity in Korean cinema that western distributors would be interested in his next move. This next move comes in the form of Thirst, a horror film involving a priest who becomes a vampire that will be distributed outside Asia by Universal Studios. An important factor in the success of Chan-wook’s trilogy was the actors he chose to work with. The likes of Song Kang-ho (Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance) and Choi Min-sik (Oldboy and Lady Vengeance) are considered among the most talented actors Korea has to offer these days, and Thirst sees the former in action under Chan-wook once again. While the idea of vampires in film doesn’t push all of my buttons, we were spoiled last year by the magnificent Let the Right One In and I’ve no reason to see why Thirst will be any different, just as long as it adds something new to the genre and approaches it with originality in mind. 08. The Road | John Hillcoat

After the success of the Coen Brothers’ No Country for Old Men, it was no surprise to see producers scrambling to adapt more of Cormac McCarthy’s works. Since then, three other McCarthy adaptions have been put into production; Outer Dark, Blood Meridian (to be directed by Todd Field) and Cities of the Plain (to be directed by Andrew Dominik). Around the same time the Coen Brothers secured the rights for No Country, Australian filmmaker John Hillcoat was signed to adapt another McCarthy novel; The Road. It took until 2008 for production to begin and the project has undergone many problems since, but fortunately looks set for a belated 2009 release. After his successful western The Proposition in 2005, I found it somewhat odd to find Hillcoat involved with The Road; one of the few McCarthy novels that isn’t driven by elements of the western genre. I also have some worries about how many liberties may have been taken in fleshing out an entire script from what is an extremely bleak tale, but I’m still very much looking forward to this one. 07. The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus | Terry Gilliam

Terry Gilliam’s latest project The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus has received much exposure in the past year or so, mainly because of the tragic death of its leading man Heath Ledger. Since then, Gilliam has signed three other big names to play Ledger’s character in Johnny Depp, Jude Law, and Colin Farrell. It is an odd move, but one that has undoubtedly garnered much publicity and will give Gilliam more of a chance to see his film in theaters. Whether that be this year or next, time will tell, but after the man’s wonderful and oft-misjudged previous feature Tideland, I will be looking out for anything new he sets his hands on. The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus concerns a travelling theater troupe whose extraordinary “Imaginarium” gives audience members the chance to choose between light and joy or darkness and gloom. It remains to be seen how Gilliam will deal with the loss of Ledger or how he will integrate those other actors into the role, but he has dealt with adversity before and I’m sure will be able to distill something original out of whatever he is given this time around. Il avait récemment participé au projet Parra x Nike Air Max qui regroupait neuf artistes issus des plus grandes villes européennes, et avait shooté le rappeur Sefyu pour l’occasion (la photo est d’ailleurs exposée sur la devanture du shop Opium à Châtelet). Un autre  génie nous a quitté. Il faut vraiment que je me mette à la photo.

Mark Mortensen was just named Senior Analyst at Analysys Mason, a firm that has now made two high-profile acquisitions in less than a year. First, as reported here and blogged here, Analysys Mason acquired OSS Observer. Now it has snagged Mortensen, and these moves combined constitute a blockbuster of sorts in the communications “theatre.”

Most recently Mortensen served as SVP marketing and product management at VPIsystems, where as analyzed here, he introduced integrated capacity & network planning to the market; as adjunct faculty member at UMass Lowell; and as president, Mortensen Consulting Group LLC, where he has been consulting to communications software and hardware companies. Yet he is best known for his previous achievements at some of the preeminent hardware and software companies in the communications market.

People often talk about building a rock-solid foundation in business and life. Mortensen’s career redefines the term. Building on an educational background that includes Yale and USC, for the better part of two decades he held positions including department head, director and the coolest job title I’ve heard of in ages–management systems chief scientist–at remote outposts you may have heard of such as AT&T, AT&T Bell Laboratories and Lucent (yes, when it was still just Lucent). I first encountered Mark in his role as CMO and senior VP product management at Granite Systems. At the time I was helping put CommTech on the map and eventually be acquired by ADC Telecommunications, and helping Visionael raise millions in venture capital to live to fight another day, but what I was really doing was helping those companies compete with Granite, and Mark. At Granite he was responsible for all marketing, product management, acquisition and partnering activities, and it seemed as if every other day you’d learn of some new alliance, product innovation, speaking engagement or lucrative contract win by Granite. “Do you believe that Mortensen? He’s at it again,” we’d say, while secretly wishing he was “at it again” for us.

Working harder and smarter than the competition paid off for Granite when long-running market leader Telcordia acquired it and Mortensen earned another you-don’t-see-that-every-day title, VP elementive strategy & realization, at Telcordia. There he was responsible for overall product strategy at a pivotal moment in the company’s storied history, putting a little Xng in the giant’s step as it evolved its technology (and mindset) to manage next-generation networks.

Assembling so much talent under one brand makes Analysys Mason a leader in research & analysis of the OSS/BSS market and perhaps, especially given Mortensen’s background, communications networking and services as well. One thing is for certain: Analysys Mason sure can pick ‘em.

Reading books like this and learning about organizations like this act as both a positive and a negative.

The positive: Learning that what I am doing with my life has been done, can be done, and can seriously change the path of a community. That understanding culture, language, and people is as important to building bridges as stones and mortar. That someone else shares my fascination and dedication for the parts of the world people have written off. That Pakistan and Afghanistan are as beautiful and incredible as I imagine.

The negative: I’m reading about it, not doing it.

If you want to understand an important aspect to responsible ethnographic participative action research and development implementation, working with Islamic communities, and what I am attempting to do with my career – this book articulates a lot of what I believe. Everyone should understand the incredible potential of one person, one idea, and some tea.

” Her 211 in that sixth game of the day pushed her from No. 2 to No. 1. It made her a state champion.

Mortensen’s six-game score of 1,167 – a 194 average – was 34 pins better than Amanda Richards of Wilson in the Class 4A state high school bowling championship. “I was happy. I looked over at my dad, my dad had tears in his eyes, and almost made me want to cry,” Mortensen said in a phone interview from her hotel room late Friday in Tacoma. “It’s definitely a great thing, my senior year to get it.” Mortensen is the second Clark County bowler to win a state title.

Battle Ground’s Rachel Kreighbaum won the 4A crown in 2007. In a coincidence, Mortensen, Richards and third-place finisher Courtney Couch of Emerald Ridge were right next to each other in the final game. Couch led the tournament going into Game 6. “I kept looking at their scores. They were doing great.

I was happy when they both got splits,” Mortensen said. “That kind of saved my butt.” Actually, she said she would have preferred it if the other two were several lanes away from her. “I get too stressed out, and I get kind of scared when I know I’m behind,” she said. Mortensen opened the tournament with a 195-201-224 series. “I was feeling confident,” she said. “Then I took my lunch break.

I knew my fourth game was going to be bad.” She followed with a 168, then got another 168 in the fifth game. That’s when she gave herself her pep talk, giving herself the goal of 200 or better.

It still wasn’t over after she completed her 211 game, though. She was two frames ahead of Couch and Richards. “(Richards) could have struck out and beat me,” Mortensen said.

“It was definitely scary watching, so I turned around and waited until she was done.” By then, Mortensen was a state champion. Evergreen’s team is still competing. The Plainsmen have several baker games to play today, the final day of the team competition.

Mortensen and her teammates were eating popcorn and watching “Finding Nemo” into the night. That movie is about a lucky fin, not a lucky pin, but no matter – a celebration is a celebration.

Han står ret sent op, tror jeg – eller også går han bare meget tit i undertrøjer,” fortæller Lenny, inden han går videre til at afsløre, at Allan Mortensen også indimellem begiver sig ud på små ture i området:

“Nogle gange vimser han rundt ovre i Netto med eye-liner og totalt corny, glinsende denim-jakker.”
