Today we cooked the last breakfast recipe — Mos Eisley Morsels. Mos Eisley is a spaceport and

Today we cooked the last breakfast recipe — Mos Eisley Morsels. Mos Eisley is a spaceport and is the location of the cantina with all those funky weird aliens. This recipe looked really yummy, and we were all excited to try it.

We pulled together the ingredients:

After pre-heating the oven and greasing our baking pan, we first sifted together the dry ingredients. Peter measured out all the ingredients and Jacob sifted.

Then we masehd up 3 bananas. The boys found this part to be particularly unappetizing!

After blending the mashed bananas with some egg, vanilla extract and oil, we stirred those together and folded in the dry ingredients. We ended up with this:

We spread it in the baking pan and popped it into the oven. It seemed a little dry to me, and I started to worry. The recipe provided the option of mashing additional bananas to place on top of the finished bread, but the boys had been so disgusted by the initial banana mashing process, that they chose to forego this option.

Here’s how they came out. I was pleased with the cakey-looking texture. Though, as you can see, they were not uniform in thickness. I tried to spread the batter as evenly as possible, but it was so thick, that proved difficult.

Skill level: Moderate. This recipe was just a shade more complicated for the kids than the other ones we’ve done. We had to sift dry ingredients together then fold them into wet ingredients.

Outcome: The kids didn’t like these. I thought they were ok, but weren’t as sweet as I had hoped. They seemed to be missing something in the taste, though the combination of spices (cinnamon, vanilla, nutmeg and cloves) was nice. Peter’s comment: “They have a taste, but they don’t taste like anything. I know that doesn’t make sense, but that’s the only way I know how to say it.”

Demo video on BBC.

Basically, it’s the most customizable electronic instrument ever made. Part electric guitar, part synthesizer, part woodwind, part percussion. The possibilities are endless! I so wish I could get one of these. Hey, it’s a bargain at £3950.00. LOL!

Can you imagine my little brother (Mark) with one of these? They’d have him on stage in a heartbeat. Amazing stuff. I will never ever get tired of the classics when it comes to musical instruments (especially my cello), but this is definitely part of the future of musical instruments. So awesome!

I know some of you out there instantly think … StarWars…MUST be a Nerd..
However I am a nerd so stfu.
Others of you are LOTR fans…. All I can say is. KEEP TOKIN.

StarWars Galaxies is a RICH combination of the StarWars series. Taking place right after Episode 4. This game was released around the time of the new Episode 1. In order to hype it’s release the game features alot of the same music and sound effects from the movie.

This game is more than… a game to me. It is a new experience every time I log in. I started playing this game in 2003 with a very good friend of mine Charlie Smith (who has since passed on… RIP Charlie). It brings a smile to my face that a small development team has been working on restoring the original version of the game. www.swgemu.com .

You can torrent the client from any popular torrent site, register and play! NO CHARGE. The current StarWars Galaxies is in the NGE (New Gaming Experience) phase. They started to change the original game in 2005. Since then they have lost over 80% of the original player base !!!!

When it starts up you can create a character from one of several races. Have you always wanted to be a Wookie? Or maybe you want to be a Zabrak like Darth Maul! You choose!

Each player can choose to pursue several careers. Also known as Professions in game. Anything from a house maker ( yes you can own your own house, decorate and party in it), A Bounty Hunter ( Like Boba Fett), A Marksman ( using laser riffles, pistols etc..), An exotic dancer or musician. You can even find the way of the force and unlock jedi abilities for your characters, however this is a very long and secret process. Unique to each player!

Check it out, this is on the planet Tatooine.

Mos Eisley

Several players on SWGEmu have not played since the changes were made in 2005. This is a very exciting time and great socializing experience for us returning VETS.

I myself am seeking the way of the Jedi. It has taken several hours a day for the last two weeks (Lame you think…. FREGGIN AWSOME I THINK). I am still nowhere near attaining Force Sensitivity lol…

I encourage everyone that is a fan of StarWars to give this a shot. You can visit Points Of Interest from all of the movies. Makes you feel like you are there!

Onto another StarWars subject. The replacement for StarWars Galaxies has been in the works for the past two years. It is call Star Wars The Old Republic. www.swtor.com They are now accepting Beta invites. I encourage everyone to check that out even if you are not a SW fan. The game will be surpassing all current boundaries of any online game to date. PRETTY BIG DEAL.

It’s a well-known fact in Star Wars fandom that the Mos Eisley Cantina Band only knows one son

It’s a well-known fact in Star Wars fandom that the Mos Eisley Cantina Band only knows one song. When they kick back and relax after work, safely at home after a long day of weirdos such as Greedo, Walrus Man, and Han Solo shooting and chopping up the customers at their only steady gig, what better way than with Rock Band? Of course, the standard Fender Strat controller isn’t compatable. You have to get the special Bassoon–O-Phone controllers to play it. They’d better score some overdrive soon, or else that blue elephant-man Max Rebo and his weirdo stalk-lipped blob singer Sy Snoodles will start stealing all the gigs.

But who are the Cantina band, and why did Wal-Mart release action figures of them? Only Wikipedia and the “extended universe” book sequels know for sure. According to the package for the action figures, the lead guy’s name is “Figrin D’an”. Hey, whatcha figurin’, Dan? He must always get stuck spliiting up the check for everyone. It’s a dumb name, alright. Even if we leave questions unanswered (like what kind of ring would you make from a fig, exactly?), it really sounds like figurine, which might exactly be why they decided to release D’an and friends as action figures. Maybe it’s a tribute to George Lucas’ own genius in keeping the merchandising rights to the franchise. The rest of the band is called “The Modal Nodes”, which is actually a weird music theory joke based on medieval composition techniques. So, we can safely leave that aside. And…moving right along….

Don’t look for Rock Band: Mos Eisley anytime soon. You’ll just have to make due with Rock Band: The Beatles, Rock Band: Unplugged, Guitar Hero: Metallica, and new track packs being released for Rock Band–Unplugged, Metal, and Classic Rock. More Boston and Rush, yay. No Figrin D’an and the Modal Nodes. Get over it already.

Yep!!!!!! Por lo menos suena a old stuff. Tallica is back baby!!!

In typical style, I’ll open with a tangent: I propose that movies like Hellboy II will be the Star Wars of their generation; not to the same degree, obviously, since there’s so much more fantastic (in the literal sense of the word) stuff available these days, but as something that will inspire, and continue to inspire, the kids of today as they grow up and choose their way in the world.

I’m a big fan of Star Wars. I had to see them on television, but still, few were more pumped than me to see the theatrical releases of the remastered versions in the late 90s. Seeing The Phantom Menace at the old Somerset Theatre is a memory I will cherish for the rest of my days. However, having said all that, I understand why many of the kids of today are underwhelmed (to quote Sloan, although my spellchecker seems fine with it — strange) with the series. I imagine it’s tough to get past the limitations of the day to see the adventure beneath. Add to that that as an adult I’ve come to realize that you don’t want to look too closely under the hood of these movies, and you can hardly fault these kids.

Then you see Hellboy II, with beautiful creatures like the elemental, and terrifying ones like the angel of death, and you think, outside of Jim Henson’s mind, where are you going to find that much creative genius packed into two hours? And then you add in lots of adventure, camaraderie, sympathatic villians, and, wow, you’ve got one heck of a ride. (Especially when it’s all about moving the story along; so many great effects ruin the moment because they’re clearly about the production team showing off; none of that here.)

Which is all well and good, but I’m sure you’re wondering what in the world made me think of Star Wars: I think it started with the troll market. It’s the Mos Eisley Lucas dreamed off. (I think I even heard a sound similar to a Wookie cry as the scene opened, but that could’ve been my imagination.) Then you have the shrouded princess in desperate need. And who can honestly say that Abe Sapien’s mannerisms (in this movie, anyway — don’t remember the first one that well) don’t reek of C3-PO’s?

I just loved this movie. I could go on about the dichotomy of the barbaric Mr. Wink, and that awesome goblin amputee, but you get the idea.

A final note on the Death Race trailer: I hadn’t seen it before, and let me just say my confused grin turned to peals of laughter when they got to the part with the female convicts. It was a parody of itself. I’m telling you, it would’ve fit perfectly between Tarantino’s Planet Terror and Death Proof. I don’t know if I’ve ever laughed so long or hard at a trailer.

Yesterday I took a free Tel Aviv Bauhaus architecture tour. As some of you may know, Tel Aviv has the single largest concentration of Bauhaus buildings in the world. More than 4000 to be exact.

This is largely due to the large numbers of German-Jewish architects who ended up here in the ’30s and ’40s during a time when the Jewish population was expanding rapidly and needed to be housed somehow.

So it came to be that Zionist utopia was packaged in the so-called international style. That is; Bahaus with some Mediterranean tweaks. These houses can be seen all over Tel Aviv. Some in better repair than others.

Actually, this is one of the somewhat weird aspects of the city. It has this sort of feel of forlorn and discarded futurism and utopia. A space-age city stranded on a crummy beach. It sort of reminds me of that city in Star Wars: Phantom Menace. I believe it is called Mos Eisley.

Mos Eisley:

Described by the guide as the most perfect Bauhaus building in Tel Aviv. Has seen better days:

This city has a lot of stuff, most notably: hills, palm trees, and ugly people.

We figured that yesterday was going to be slow-ish and relatively free of any real sightseeing since both Brad and J-ma’s friend Kyle had work, and we had promised to include him in touristy stuff. With this in mind we had a ridiculously large breakfast across the street from our hotel at Pinecrest Diner, home of the “best breakfast in San Francisco,” a bold statement that they backed up — though we have no other SF breakfast experience to compare it to. Solid eggs nonetheless. Anyway, the only one who didn’t roll with the Clean Plate Club was Phil, who ordered a daunting meal consisting of 4 pancakes and 2 eggs — a two-by-four. Clever.

Our stomachs full, we headed out into the sun to wander aimlessly, picking up Slurpees and watching some sort of immigration demonstration. This is nothing new for us; for whatever reason, we are confronted with protesting Latinos pretty much every week in New York. But yesterday was special. Yes, it was very special because there was a gentleman standing across the street yelling racial slurs from his safe spot, behind a bus. Video to follow. A kindly gay gentleman basically told him to grow a pair. The yelling guy — who looked like an even more disheveled Peter Jackson — got really, really angry. Apparently “faggotry” is a word and God won’t stand for that nonsense. We lost interest shortly thereafter.

From there we walked down Market Street and ended up — after a solid hour of walking and J-ma turning 3 shades redder — at Pier 39, which Lonely Planet describes as “the epicenter of (bland) tourism and home of the cities fishing fleet. … Locals are baffled that tourists are drawn here.” I gotta say, I concur. It was like a bigger South Street Seaport with more crappy stores and ugly people. No joke, there wasn’t a looker in the bunch.

It was at some seafood joint where we were leisurely enjoying 23-oz Anchor Steams and people watching that Kyle dubbed it Mos Eisley. We had been sitting there for (by J-ma’s count) four and a half or five hours and racked up a tab of $399 — quite the showing. After Brad showed up, we went on an In-N-Out adventure, which was followed by a ghastly walk up those freaking hills.

Can we talk about the hills in this town? The area adjacent to the ferry landing totally reminds me of Barcelona. It’s pretty and stuff. But let’s say that, just maybe you’ve had a few drinks and you’re kinda full and just want to get to the next bar. Not only are there zero cabs in sight, but you’re faced with Lombard St. You pass a gentleman on the way to said bar as you are saying “too many fuckin’ hills” and he replies by stomping out his cigarette and suggesting “that’s why we drive here.” He’s cloaked in shadow in the door of an apartment building. You continue on.

Now let’s assume that you make it to Bar None, which is owned by the same people as its NY counterpart, looks exactly the same, and isn’t too crowded. Then let’s take a step back. Let’s glance over at the bouncer again. It’s the same guy from the doorway. He somehow beat us to the bar. It was like he was magic.

We got in a cab and came home to watch YouTube before passing out. It was a magical night. Today will probably consist of touristy things, or something. I have a deep craving for a grapefruit with a side of sausage. I yearn. Oh yes.

She was important because she had a facial tumor (esthesioneuroblastoma) that had grossly disfigured her face, and had asked to be euthonized by doctors, but her request was denied. However, not only did she get what she wanted (death), but her old band played at her funeral!
