One of the most important things you can embrace as your career unfolds is integrity.  Salespeople, above most other things, should have an insurmountable amount of integrity.  Unfortunately, it’s often difficult for that integrity to translate when it comes to presenting the product or service that you’re backing.  So, what can you do to put your potential clients at ease in terms of purchasing a product or service from you, trusting you, and viewing you as a man or woman of integrity?

Probably the best way to ensure that your potential clients view you as an honorable person is to have full knowledge and be completely immersed in the product line you represent.  If you’re selling a product that you truly believe in, that belief will translate to your customers.  For this reason, it’s important that you know as much as there is to know about your product, that you can answer any question your clients may have, and that you feel completely at ease discussing the goods and services you represent.

The number one reason people consider “salesman” to be dishonest is because salesmen often get a bad rap in mainstream society.  Yes, there are a few bad apples, but those bad apples cannot spoil the bunch.

You see, there’s a difference between being a “salesman” and an honorable salesperson.  The viewpoint mainstream society has of the typical “salesman” is that handlebar mustache wearing, oily hair, flashy grin guy in a plaid suit, donning a gaudy pinky ring and is more concerned about squeezing every penny out of his potential customers than he is about promoting high quality products and building lasting relationships.

The key difference between this “salesman” and a sales person who’s full of integrity and honor is education and the products themselves.

 I felt that kidney stones were the culprit causing me so much pain and the fever.  I was adamant that these were the worst stones I had ever had.  Finally, my road journey had ended and arrived at the hospital.  Being a part of a small town in Branson and owning my business there, much to my surprise word had spread about my illness quickly. During my intake at the hospital, over a dozen people were there waiting at the hospital for me to get home to Branson. I knew when the doctor told me that the waiting room was full of people praying, God had sent them to lend support because of the obstacles I would face.

 Searching for answers and leading the doctors in the wrong direction telling them about kidney stones almost took my life. Multiple tests were run and the pain was so extreme I could only sweat and pray for God to take me home.  After several hours of suffering and dozens of people holding my hand and praying for me, the time came when I was all alone. Honestly, I was feeling better and knew God had given me the relief that I desperately had prayed for.  At that moment, my doctor rushed into my room. He explained that I had an abscess in the colon. The reason I was feeling relief was it had started to burst. If I did not have surgery I was going to die, and he was very concerned if I would make it through the surgery. If I did pull through, it was now evident that I would have a colostomy at 35.

I was devastated. The only thing I knew to do was to start getting my affairs in order. Immediately, I contacted my business partners, public relations people, and show promoters to let them know the situation at hand. The hardest task was calling my parents and telling them, knowing they would not get to Branson before the surgery and that I might not see them again. I had no idea that the storm was not over we had just barely begun.

47 visitors had registered at the nurses’ station that day. People from all walks of life, including celebrities praying for my future and God’s will.  Some people that I barely knew, they maybe had performed or worked on one of my shows.  With only an hour from surgery the social worker and my pastor started praying with me, knowing that the odds are not in my favor to pull through.  At that moment the reality of a colostomy hit me like a rock. I was 35, never married, and no kids. No one would ever want someone with a colostomy. Little did I know how God would humble me to my knees and rebuild my whole life through a stomach wafer and a bag we call a colostomy. Still an hour before surgery the uninvited guest had not shown itself to me.  I just wanted to give up and go to be with Jesus. Little did I know I was still on a mountain top and the valley had not even approached me.

The attitude we have when we face a challenge is what gets us through life. Did I ever stop to think how lucky I was to live in a country that had medical technology?  Did I think about how blessed I was to have the ones who loved me there reaching out to help me?  Did I think about others who have it so much worse than a colostomy?  Sometimes we are selfish in the storm and forget how good we have it.

The past month was one of mixed feelings and emotions. (the reson for the lack of posting last week) I ponder over the choices I made over the years and what I’ve become. I’ve lost some things, gained some things. Recently, lost something so dear to me that life will never be the same again without. And at the same time, I gain things that that you worked so hard for all these years.

The choice to become an entreprenuer was not a hard one, when I was offered the chance to take this path, it did not take long for me to decide. But persuding others around me then was not easy. My parents would prefer that I get a stable job to support the family. In addition, staying on the path was a constant challenge beyond my imagination. No one said it was easy, but I always come out of the struggle a better and stronger person.

At every turn of a crisis, I always questioned my ablilty and my choice. Honestly, if I tell you I didn’t consider giving up, I was lying. “Tough” was an understatement, unless you experience it yourself. There were times when I cannot even afford to feed myself. Times like this make me look at the other side of the spectrum, and miss out on the larger picture.

I’ve taken to the company of friends and sometimes alcohol of recent. Drinks were always good company in times like that for me, especially with friends. A little advice and reminder from my friends did spark the come back for me. And this time, it was this,

” Are you going to give up something that you’ve been defending for all these time?”

What lies on the other side of the spectrum was my dream and reason that I took this path of entrepreneurship. The looks on those that troubled and challenged me will grin at the sight of my “surrender”. I will not allow that to happen. I will not allow others to take away something that I’ve fought so hard to defend. And if there was anything I could take away from a crisis, is to never back down from my dreams, and I will continue to defend my dreams. Even with the challenges I have now, I will find a way around it without giving up.

Children always tend to praise each other even if it is only for a small thing. That creates a great bond between them and that’s why they seem to enjoy life more.

Success comes easily to the person who manages himself very well as well as who could be a support and encouragement to others. He or she is a welcome guest wherever that person goes!

When one is generous in complimenting others, this universe seems to be generous with that person. The great ones don’t hesitate to sincerely compliment others where it is due!

Abraham Lincoln once said,

It is a tonic to people and they need it basically as human beings. And when one compliments others wherever a person goes, that person is nurturing the people around him/her creating an aura of encouragement for others amidst chaos.

Learning while complimenting:

When one is with their friends or boss or spouse or children and so on and deliberately finds some attributes or good qualities or something that person have done well to sincerely compliment them, he or she is not only complimenting that person but would also find himself or herself learning a new good quality or something good from that another person.

Say if one compliments 3 people on a day, and that means he or she can use those good qualities in his or her life so as to improve his/her life.

People would like you and trust you:

People whenever they are introduced to each other, mostly size up each other, sometimes consciously sometimes without their knowledge, as it is only natural for human beings. They tend to keep a distance from each other and this takes some time to set right and to break the ice.

But when you are a “compliment carrier” and a sincere one at that you would always be thought by everyone as “Native” to them as opposed to “Alien”. Even when they are a new acquaintance you can always find something to compliment them sincerely. Then they trust you and you trust them and your relationship, be it in your business or profession or personal life would be a harmonious one.

Complimenting(Sincerely) is not a phony one but actually this habit will make one to see the “Good” in others, as it is because when one always sees the bad in others he/she is inclined to “Label” that person (Permanently most of the times) as “Baddie”, “ Cheater”, etc.

With a single piece of SINCERE compliment you can turn around the life of a person if it’s heading toward disaster. You might not know but your compliment might mean a lot to that person, and sometimes change the course of their life for their betterment tremendously just because you saved them at a crucial point by complimenting them and providing solace to their hurt soul. And the spiritual satisfaction one gets from earnest compliment is unparalleled.

To compliment one needs courage- courage to break free from his/her old ego pattern, courage to sincerely praise others and avoid flattery at any cost, and courage to not to expect anything in return.

Flattery cannot be in the same place where SINCERE compliment is. Flattery is a “Phony” thing and a truly great person who wants to succeed in life would not be a “phony” one but an “Honest man/woman”. He/she really mean it when they praise others!! He or she seek the benefit of others and their welfare along with his or hers.

Sincere compliments don’t need “Honey-coated words” but even just casually tossing of sincere words – directly from the heart not just from the mouth! People can always see through ones good heart.

Your email-ID, your mouth, your hand, your pen, your keyboard and the people you know now and you are going to meet in the future would thank you for that!!
