Aside from world peace, here are the things I wish for this Christmas.

Webhost/Domain

I have been blogging for almost 4 months now and still looking for a domain and webhost.  I prefer local providers to support local companies.  So far, I have come across ploghost, philhosting, greatwebhost and mobilehive which was recomended by Judd. I have already contacted some of them and they all are newbie friendly.  But I’m still undecided. My target to set it up before the year ends.  All understand is that Bandwith is for the traffic and Storage is for your blogging posts(photos, videos, etc.)  I still need to get a theme and whatever is needed to start up my own domain and host.

An External HD or a Wireless Router

My Notebook’s storage is at 80GB and I have already consumed 75%. I really need an additional storage, 160bg – 250gb will do.  I also want to have a wireless router.  I have my internet installed upstairs, but there are times that I wanted to browse the internet downstairs.

A New Mobile Phone

Just like most of you guys, I have had a couple of mobile phones used. Here’s my list.

• Nokia 3210 – my first ever mobile phone.
• Nokia 6150
• Motorolla V100 – my first Qwerty phone
• Samsung R220
• Nokia 8250
• Sony Ericsson T630 – my first colored phone which I sold and bought a
• Nokia N-Gage – this was one of my favorites bu still sold and bought a
• Nokia 6630 – sold and bought a
• Nokia 6280 -  I regret buying this phone.
• Nokia N80 Internet Edition – I won it fom a Bancnet online promo and sold for a DSLR
• Nokia 1200 – had to settle for a cheap phone to get a DSLR but was lost.
• Nokia 1208 – present phone.

I now feel the need for a new phone.  I would prefer a Nokia E72 or an Apple iPhone.  I’ve gone through a couple of phones and I now know what I need.  I pray that Santa won’t notice the corrections I made on his list.

iPhone vs Droid

Droid

After reading Mobile Crunch’s review of the Motorolla Droid device vs the iPhone, it finally seems like someone was able to catch up with Apple(feature wise).

Each phone platform has such tremendous merits. Androids got better navigation; the iPhone has a better browser. Androids got unbeatable expandability and flexibility; the iPhone OS is mind-numbingly easy to use and the rate of growth and drive behind the App Store is simply explosive.

Samsung is also making Android powered phones and we will soon see more Hardware makers jumping on the Android bandwagon.
I wrote before here and here how it would be awesome to have a Sony phone with an open operating system platform like Android. It finally seems like that its viable for Sony to compete with a unique value offering. Now that Sony has adopted the “It only does everything” line for the PS3, they should do the same with the PSP. A powerful handheld console like the PSP coupled with a smart phone functionality would be something I would buy in a heart beat.

Last year, I got the BlackBerry Storm. The worst phone ever. The screen doesn’t work unless I have a collection of business cards behind it, it is freeze and crash prone, I can’t hold the phone up to my head without… Let me stop. You get the point. The Storm is just painful to use.

Verizon came out of nowhere, literally nowhere sporting the Motorola “Droid” phone. To be honest, I don’t know what company I am more impressed by: Verizon for grabbing Motorola’s new, “make or break” phone, or Motorola for making a phone that I actually want to buy… off contract. (yeah, that’s how bad I want it)

After looking at Android on the G1 when it dropped, I became a fan. It was different yet similar to what was available. It was organized and customizable to my liking, but I just hated the G1. With new devices sporting Android emerging since then, I have been drawn closer to Android, drifting away from the terrible  Storm and BlackBerry OS.

And now to the Droid. So the black on gold is not the most attractive phone color scheme. The Droid has the stereotype Android chin, though not as large as the G1 or the My Touch. The keyboard looks a little cramped, but I could get used to it. The most attractive aspect of the Droid is, in my opinion, the fact that it is a Verizon device with potential. The first such device in a long time. It has an amazing screen, a solid operating system, made by Google, a viable selection of mobile applications and possibilities for further Google integration (maybe for Google Wave), its a good size, and it murdered companies like “Tom Tom” and “Garmin” (try Googling their stock prices following the Android 2.0 announcement).

Overall, The Droid looks like the new face of Motorola. It will either cause a buyer to emerge for the company (which has floundered in recent years), or it will make for a “new” company to once again emerge as a front-runner in hand-held devices.

Did you get the title?  Chances are your kid would.  You cant walk through a school, mall, or any place kids congregate without seeing texting.  Am i the only one annoyed by this?  Whatever happened to calling people?  Am I not worth the few seconds it would take to dial my number?  Am I not worth correct grammar, or even correct spelling?  The answer, in short, is no.

Kids these days are more addicted to their phones then cocaine.  When a class was asked if they ever left their phones home by accident, each said that they had had at least 100 texts waiting for them when they got home.  You know what the most amazing thing was?  One kid reported he had come home to over 500 texts on his cell phone.

I don’t know about you, but I didn’t know cell phones would hold 5oo texts.

I don’t know a single kid who would leave their beloved cell at home, much less be off it for more than ten seconds.  If you don’t get the picture yet, this will help.  They have texting rehab clinics!  You don’t need rehab for good things.

Texters have actually developed early arthritis and other old age problems with their joints, but they happen to be sixteen.  You know you are doing something wrong when you get a disease 50 years early because of it.

Still, I could overlook that if it wasn’t so annoying talking to them.  As you speak, they read and reply to texts, not even looking at you as their thumbs fly across the tiny little pad.  Are they paying attention?  Good question, I have no idea.  The person they are texting is apparently not worthy to hear their voice, and I’m apparently not worthy to bother paying attention too.

It is in the classrooms?  You bet!  Kid writing?  Nope, texting.  Reading?  His texts!  Listening, maybe to an iPod, but probably texting.

Forget H1N1, this is the real pandemic!  Soon all we will be reduced to is emoticons and single syllable pre-words before our culture collapses entirely.

The Short Version
Motorola has released the phone it should have released a few years ago to compete with phones like the Helio Ocean and feature phones from LG and Samsung. Android brings this phone into the 21st century and the QWERTY keyboard and BLUR UI tweaks will please those looking for a keyboard Android phone with social networking features.
The Long Version
This last half-decade has been hard on Motorola. It launched the RAZR in 2004 and essentially riffed on that ground-breaking clamshell for another four years. Now it’s 2009 and it’s time to move in a different direction. Can this creaky ship of a company take up the line, hoist the mizzen, and tack to starboard? Is the Motorola CLIQ the answer to their deepest, most secret prayers, prayed in anguish under a stifling cover of imminent collapse? How many more metaphors can I use here and still sound like I’m writing for a business magazine?
First, I finger wag. Motorola, you have been very bad. You squandered your massive lead (110 million RAZRs sold by 2005) on a strategy that included, but was not limited to, trying to copy the magic of the RAZR while the rest of the industry was going the way of the smartphone. Then you tried to build out some Windows Mobile phones that no one wanted and, in the end, lost out to just about every rival you’ve ever had. This is bad.
So here’s your hail Mary pass, your Radio Free Europe, your return to four-letter naming conventions. I present the Motorola CLIQ.

What’s Inside
This phone will be sold on T-Mobile and includes a quad-band GSM radio and runs Android. It has a slide out QWERTY keyboard with direction buttons and a 5-megapixel camera that can record video. It includes GPS for turn-by-turn navigation and supports Bluetooth as well as MP3/AAC/WAV/H.264/MPEG playback.
It has built-in WiFi (802.11b/g) and a removable 2GB MicroSD card is included in the box. It is charged and sync via a micro-USB cable.
Three buttons under the screen access the menu, access the home screen, and go back, respectively. A button on the upper right turns the phone off and locks it and a button on the lower right activates the camera. There are volume control buttons on the left side along with a hard mute switch. A full-sized headphone port hangs out on top.
The device is clad in shiny metallic plastic and has a plastic backing that is textured to look like carbon fiber. A white LED pulses on the phone’s face as a grim reminder of your own mortality.
The CLIQ will sell for $199 with two year contract. It will be available to current T-Mobile customers on October 19 and for new customers on November 2.
Usability
The CLIQ is very heavy, much heavier than you expect. It weighs almost six ounces, which isn’t much, but it seems dense. They keyboard is comfortable and the touchscreen is responsive and on par with the HTC MyTouch.
I had horrible luck getting a 3G signal out in Brooklyn which may have been a by-product of my location and the CLIQ’s firmware. The MyTouch, for example, gets T-Mobile 3G in Brooklyn without trouble.
Motorola rates this phone at 6 hours talk time and 13 days of standby. These numbers would be correct if it weren’t for the myriad social networking features built-in which, like it or not, eat up the battery. The phone I used was at the half-way mark at 2pm after being unplugged at 9am. I’d say the daily usage is under 18 hours and this thing definitely needs an overnight charge.
The phone does not seem to have a position sensor it only flips the screen when the keyboard is out.
The camera is acceptable as is the camcorder feature. The phone includes Shazam music discovery software, an RSS newsreader, and Telenav GPS Navigator. All of these work fine under Android. In fact, this is a stock Android phone with a little something extra.
Blur
So what is Blur? Blur, like HTC’s Sense UI, is Motorola’s overlay on top of – or, more correctly, around Android. I integrates Facebook, Twitter, Picassa, MySpace, and Photobucket content along with your POP/IMAP email and Gmail contacts list into one cohesive unit. The default home screen has a status update widget along with a “Universal Message” box that shows all of your new emails. A quick tap will open up a larger view of both. A Facebook/Twitter widget pops up status updates. News and Entertainment widgets offer just what you’d imagine they offer.
Unlike HTC’s Sense, this is not an over-arching or overly ambitious skinning of Android. You are limited to one type of clock, for example, out of the box, and the skinning stops at the clever widgets and a few color and app choices.
Blur is clever. When you start up the phone it asks for all of your login particulars. Everyone, be they in Twitter or Facebook or Gmail, shows up as a contact. Most of these contacts will automatically connect with each other, ensuring you don’t have too many duplicates. However, seeing a huge list of odd Twitter names is a bit disconcerting.
What is Blur? It is the first use of Android in a what would normally be a feature phone. This is a huge step forward for the operating system and a good move by Motorola. The phone is aimed as “social” folks AKA teens. There is nothing in this phone to suggest it is a smartphone and Blur cements that position quite nicely. In the same way the Hero was aimed at trendy socialites, this, too, takes everything from everywhere and puts it into one package. It is not, however, a phone for the enterprise. The CLIQ is, you know, for kids.
Bottom Line
I’ve had a few days to play with the CLIQ and came away refreshed and hopeful. This phone is better than the G1 on all fronts but there is still a ways to go for it to beat out some of HTC’s upcoming Android offerings. Motorola didn’t hit it out of the ballpark on this one, but they’re still in the game.

First time to do a shoot with my older brother, CB, set in our house. It’s a bit challenging to do a shoot with him since I don’t really know how to pose male models. Hehe.

L’industrie mondiale du mobile, qui a enregistré au premier trimestre une chute de près de 10% de ses ventes, devrait connaître en 2009 l’année la plus difficile de son histoire, avec à la clé d’importantes restructurations et des milliers de suppressions d’emplois.

Selon les chiffres publiés mercredi par l’institut Gartner, les ventes ont diminué de 9,4% sur les trois premiers mois de l’année, à 269 millions d’unités, la plus forte baisse jamais enregistrée sur cette période.

Pour l’ensemble de l’année, Gartner table sur un recul de 4,2%, du fait de la crise économique et de la maturité d’un certain nombre de marchés.

L’année 2009 devrait être ainsi encore “un peu plus difficile” que 2001, qui avait connu une baisse de 3,7% des ventes, après l’éclatement de la bulle internet, note l’analyste Carolina Milanesi.

Amorcé fin 2008, ce recul met fin à plus de six années de croissance ininterrompue, dont plusieurs à deux chiffres.

“C’est une crise majeure, elle n’a pas de précédent”, souligne Michaël Nique, de l’Institut de l’audiovisuel et des télécoms en Europe (Idate), en rappelant qu’en 2001 l’industrie du mobile était “trois fois moins importante qu’aujourd’hui”, avec environ 400 millions d’unités vendues, contre 1,2 milliard en 2008.

Quasiment toutes les régions du monde sont touchées, y compris les pays émergents, la récession incitant les consommateurs à retarder l’acquisition de leur téléphone ou son remplacement ou à acheter des mobiles d’occasion.

Le constructeur américain Motorola est la principale victime: sur la période, faute de produits adaptés, il a vu ses ventes reculer de près de 45%, et a perdu sa troisième place mondiale au profit du sud-coréen LG.

Le nippon-suédois Sony-Ericsson enregistre de son côté une baisse d’environ 35% de son chiffre d’affaires trimestriel et accumule les pertes depuis trois trimestres.

Même le numéro un mondial, le finlandais Nokia, souffre: ses ventes trimestrielles sont passées pour la première fois depuis deux ans sous la barre des 100 millions de mobiles vendus, tandis que le prix moyen de ses portables a chuté de 18% en un an, plombant sa rentabilité.

Face à cette situation inédite, les fabricants doivent “forcément prendre des mesures, par exemple décider d’un repositionnement stratégique, en se concentrant sur certains segments de marché comme les +smartphones+ (téléphones multifonctions permettant notamment de surfer sur internet) ou les services” via des boutiques en ligne, souligne M. Nique.

Les réorganisations ont déjà un impact sur le plan social: Motorola a annoncé depuis l’automne 5.000 suppressions d’emplois dans sa branche mobiles, Sony-Ericsson 4.000 depuis juillet et Nokia quelque 4.600 depuis novembre, dont plus de 1.300 via des départs volontaires.

Selon Carolina Milanesi, “les réductions de coûts vont se poursuivre” et pourront se traduire par de nouvelles coupes dans les effectifs.

Pour autant, certains constructeurs affichent une croissance insolente, comme les sud-coréens Samsung et LG (respectivement +21,4% et +13%) grâce à leur positionnement sur le segment des écrans tactiles, ou encore Apple et RIM (BlackBerry) qui profitent de la forte demande pour les “smartphones”.

Si l’Amérique du Nord et la Chine laissent apparaître quelques signes de reprise, celle-ci n’est véritablement attendue dans le monde qu’en 2010, et plutôt la deuxième moitié de l’année, avec une croissance modeste de l’ordre de 5 à 6%, d’après Mme Milanesi et M. Nique.

The first thing I noticed when I got the MOTOZINE in my hands was that one side was all Kodak. Kodak is one of the only other camera brands I trust, so this was very exciting. The camera on this mobile phone is 5 mega pixels with a sliding lens cover that takes photos with a better quality than I’ve seen most phones take. I loved the way this phone felt in my hand. It was solid and had a strength that I just knew could endure through the many beatings my children can give telephones.

The MOTOZINE features CrystalTalk technology that provides a clear and and crisp communication. Unfortunately I was unable to test this feature since I am out of range of T-Mobile service. The screen, which is 2.4” 240×320,  is fantastic and very clear. All of the others phone features match up to standard mobile phones – I was very satisfied with this phone.

T-Mobile is providing their customers with an introductory offer for a fantastic new plan for parents. What this plan allows is the parent to go on-line upfront and allow their child certain monthly time usage allowances. This is only $2 extra a month for all lines on your plan. Never go over your minutes again from an over talkative teenager. I could certainly use something like this!

T-Mobile is currently offerring the MOTOZINE for only $99! This is the perfect phone/camera to throw into your purse and bring anywhere. You would never miss a shot of your child doing something adorable.

ها نحن نلتقي مجدداً، و اليوم ستكون هذه التدوينة هي الأخيرة و سوف نتحدث فيها عن واقع أنظمة جنو/لينكس و المستقبل المنشود منها.

كما ذكرنا في التدوينات السابقة فإن حوالي 2% إلى 3% هو العدد الإجمالي لمستخدمي لينكس الشخصيين، و بالرغم من كونه عدد قليلاً، إلا أننا نرى بالمقابل نظاماً يحتل ما نسبته 92% من سوق السيرفرات في العالم فهو إذاً ليس ذاك النظام الضعيف الذي لا يعتمد عليه أحد، و بالرغم من أنني كمستخدم عادي و مطور ويب فإنني مرتاح جداً بإستخدامي جنو/لينكس، فقد لا يشاركني الجميع هذا الشعور، و هذا يعود للشخص نفسه و متطلباته فجنو/لينكس لا يفرض و إنما يعشق،،

في وقت متأخر من هذه السنة قمت بتجربة بسيطة، و هي أن قمت بتجربة توفير نسخة واحدة من توزيعتي فيدورا و ماندريفا، التوزيعتين التي أستخدمهما، و قمت بتثبيت إحداهما عند 5 أشخاص أو أنني قمت بالمساح لهم بتجربته على جهازي، مع العلم أن إثنين من هؤلاء هما مستخدما ماك، و كانت النتيجة رهيبة، فمستخدما الماك قالا إن نظام الجنو/لينكس ليس مختلفاً كثيراً عن الماك و هو مشابه له كثيراً في آلية العمل، و أما الأفراد الأربعة الباقيين فقد أعجبوا بإمكانيات النظام و عبر إثنين منهما على الرغبة في التحول إلى جنو/لينكس في حين تحول الأخير إلى جنو/لينكس فعلاً، إذاً فجنو/لينكس ليس هذا النظام الصعب الذي يشبه الفزاعة التي يخاف منها الجميع، هو نظام يعتمد على فكرة واحدة و بسيطة و هي أنك أنت من يدير النظام و أنت من يتحكم فيه، و ليس أي برنامج أو تطبيق.

عوامل نجاح جنو/لينكس كثيرة، فبالإضافة إلى ما ذكرناه من آلية التحكم الكامل في النظام من قبل المستخدم لا البرنامج، فجنو/لينكس نظام مفتوح المصدر، أي أن الجميع يستطيعون الحصول على الكواد المصدري لهذا النظام و التعديل عليه كما يشاؤونو هذا يقدم لنا ميزتين، الميزة الأولى، هي المصداقية، فنظام جنو/لينكس يمتاز بالمصادقية التامة، لا شيء يحدث أنت تجهله و لا شيء أنت لا تريده يحدث رغماً عنك، و هنا سأذكر مثالاُ بسيطاً، كل من استخدم الفايرفوكس على الجنو/لينكس سيلاحظ أنه أسرع من الفايرفوكس على ويندوز، و الأمر بسيط جداً، فويندوز تحجز 20% من موارد الإنترنت لبرامجها فلا يستطيع مثلاً فايرفوكس إلا الحصول على 80% من موارد الإنترنت.

أما الميزة الأخرى التي تضيفها مفتوحية المصادر في جنو/لينكس، فهي ميزة التشارك، فبعض الناس يشتري أحياناً جهازاً جديداً من السوق و عندما يبحث له عن تعريف لا يجده، و لهذا فإنه يكتبه بنفسه و من ثم يرسله إلى مؤسسة اللينكس، فتقوم مؤسسة اللينكس بدمجه ضمن نواتها و من ثم إطلاقه ضمن التحديثات، لذا فإنك لن تضطر الشركات حتى توفر لك تعريفاً بل كل ما عليك هو إنتظار أسبوع أو أسبوعين على نزول المنتج و ستجد له تعريف ضمن المخزن لديك في جنو/لينكس.

أيضاً جنو/لينكس يتميز بالإستقرار، فهو يستطيع العمل لجلسات طويلة جداً، فبعض السيرفرات تعمل لمدة سنة أو سنتين قبل أن يتم عمل ريستارات لها، و هذا يثبت قوة نظام جنو/لينكس و يؤكد نظرتنا تجاه إستقارارية النظام، و طبعاً نحن سنتحدث عن مستوى الكومبيوترات البسيطة، فخلال تجربتي وجدت أن جنو/لينكس لا يتأثر بمدة الجلسة الطويلة، و بالرغم من أنني أحياناً أواجه مشاكل في الإستجابة، فإنه و بمجرد أن أقوم بإغلاق كل البرامج، يستعيد النظام أداءه بالكامل، طبعاً مواصفات جهازي ليست بالفوية، و إستخدامي للواجهات الرسومية المتقدمة و تشغيلي لعشرة برامج في الوقت عينه قد يسبب يطئاً في النظام بسبب الضغط على الهاردوير.

اليوم، كثر هم من يستخدمون جنو/لينكس، فإذا أردنا الحديث عن الحكومات، فحكومة أمريكا و بريطانيا و ألمانيا و فرنسا و سنغافورة و البرازيل و فييتنام، و إذا أردنا الحديث عن مدينة الفن هوليوود، فإن كبرى شركاتها تستخدم جنو/لينكس مثل Disney و DreamWorks و Pixar، و قد شارك جنو/لينكس في كثير من الأعمل القوية مثل أفلام Shrek و الأسطورة Lord of the Rings و أفلام Star Wars و من شاهد هذه الأفلام سيقدر أهمية جنو/لينكس فهو يشكل 75% من نسبة الأنظمة المستخدمة في دور إنتاج الأفلام، و إذا أردنا الحديث عن مجال التعليم، فلقد تحولت في الفترة الأخيرة كثير من الجامعات إلى لينكس بشكل تام و هذا حدث أيضاً في جامعة عربية في المغرب العربي، و أيضاً، فإن مدارس البرازيل و تشيلي تستخدم جنو/لينكس بدلاً من ويندوز، و هذا أيضاً يحدث في دول شرق آسيا النامية، فجنو/لينكس بالنسبة لهم الخيار الأفضل.

و على المستوى الكبير، فإن معظم الشركات الكبيرة تستخدم جنو/لينكس، مثل عملاق الإنترنت Google، و أكبر موقع مخازن البضائع على الإنترنت amazon، و من ناحية مطوري البرمجيات، فإن كل الشركات بما فيها Dell و hp و ASUS و IBM و غيرها، كلها تستخدم لينكس بشكل جوهري في تطوير أنظمتها و أجهزتها، و كلها تستخدم جنو/لينكس كسيرفر لبرمجياتها، و أيضاً شركات الإتصالات، فكل من سوني و إريكسون و نوكيا و سامسونغ و موتورولا و غيرها تستخدم جنو/لينكس في إدارة أنظمة الإتصالات لديها، و لا يخفى على أحد أن نظام جوجل أندرويد القادم هو مبني على نواة لينكس، و كل منصات الألعاب مثل PlayStation و Nintendo تستخدم اللينكس ضمن نظامها،،

يمثل جنو/لينكس دور الجندي المجهول، أو دور رجل الكواليس، الذي لا يعرف له دور، في حين أنه أهم شخص على خشبة المسرح، فهو من يغير المشاهد و يتلاعب فيها و لولاها لما تمت المسرحية، جنو/لينكس بدأ بالإنتشار فعلاً، فبعد إعلان كبرى شركات إنتاج الأجهزة و على رأسهم Dell و hp البدء بإنتاج أجهزة مثبت عليها جنو/لينكس مسبقاً، فإننا بدأنا نرى المستقبل جلياً أمامنا يحفل بإنجازات جنو/لينكس، بإذن الله تعالى..
