Although we may not be aware of them, we all have personal philosophies that shape how we view the world. These philosophies color our interpretation of the events in our lives–both good and bad–and more importantly, how we respond to those events. We’ve all heard some of the more popular philosophies–e.g. when life gives you lemons, make lemonade. But, have you stopped to think about the philosophies that guide and shape our particular world view?

 
When life gets hectic, and things don’t seem to be going our way, following are some philosophies you can adopt that will indeed, enable you to take those lemons and make the very best lemonade!

Mistakes are the stepping stones to mastery: I love watching funny sitcom and movie out-takes–especially when I’ve already seen the finished product. Nothing illustrates this concept better. We can learn so many lessons: that humor can get us through the fumbles; hat others are there to lend a hand if we allow them; that no one is perfect, not even Robert De Niro; that there’s always a chance for another take; and most importantly, that if we persist, we can eventually master the task at hand and no one would be he wiser!

If you truly believe in you, you’re one-up already: Any top salesman will tell you that he cannot fully succeed if he doesn’t believe in his product. Whenever we pitch ourselves–be it for a promotion, a lead role, or a new job–just how effective we are, is largely determined by our own self-confidence and esteem. Think about the times you’ve been fully confident in your abilities, and how easy it was to convince others of the same. And then, think about the times you may not have been as confident–was it as easy to be convincing?

Perfection, like a brand new car, is customizable: What’s your idea of a perfect life? I bet, if you asked the other people they would tell you something different. Commercials and ads appeal to our recognition of a well-marketed American Dream, but we all know that there is no universal definition of “perfection”. The key is to define it for yourself, based on your personal values, and then to aggressively pursue it despite differences in opinion about what may constitute “perfection”.

Disappointment in oneself only stems from the knowledge that we CAN do better: Deep down, we all know what we’re really capable of. The key then, is to figure out what forms of support enable us to be our best. Reality is, there will be times when you fall, and when you do, revisit philosophy !.

もっと… is Kana’s 7th single and the start of a new era for her. This single is her highest charting single as of now. Which is quite amazing (she went from starting in the 155’s to now the top 10’s =D). もっと… was used in the same CM that 君に会いたくなるから was in.

もっと… starts right away with Kana singing. After her little singing section some nice piano playing is introduced. I absolutely LOVE that piano playing. The song is catchy, and Kana’s energy and tone make it excellent. Near the end she hits some high notes that impressed me because she hit them with ease and they didn’t come out as sounding squeaky in the long run. This is another great R&B song by Kana (: I’m loving this direction she’s going in and I can’t wait for more of her releases in the future.

missing you is a calmer R&B song. With a nice bassline if I do add. Kana’s voice is nice. But I LOVE the background vocalists. They provide nice sounds for Kana. Although there isn’t really anything in the song that makes it catchy. I do think the song is nice anyway <3

Dear My Friends is an upbeat song =D I’m already loving it. I like Kana’s voice in this song…once again as always xD The arrangement is cute and pop sounding. As if it was going back to her girly pop days (I, glowly days, Style.). I’m pleased with how Kana took this song <3 I like it.

Osallistuin tiistaina Innovaatiojohtamisen koulutusohjelman IMO:n järjestemään Tulevaisuustapahtumaan. Pääpuhujana oli Amerikan maalta Sarah Miller Caldicott, jota minusta hiukan hassusti tituleerattiin ohjelmaesittelyssä Thomas Edisonin sukulaiseksi, vaikka hän on kiinnostava ihminen ihan omillakin ansioillaan.

Titteleistä viis. Sarah oli erinomainen esiintyjä ja hänen esityksensä siitä, kuinka Thomas Edison jo 140 vuotta sitten teki innovointityötä, oli kerrassaan inspriroiva. Sain esityksestä virtaa loppumarraskuuksi ja Maggielle uuden moton: Kokeile ja opi.

Ahaa-elämykseni jälkeen maistelin mottoa pitkin iltaa ja pohdin, sopiiko se meille. Huomasin, että olemme ilman sanoiksi puettua mottoakin tehneet hommia sen mukaisesti.

Olemme kokeilleet verkostoitunutta toimintamallia ja oppineet, että ainakin lehden ulkoasun luominen ja taitto sujuu sen puitteissa mainiosti. Olemme hiljattain kokeilleet ulkopuolisen tekstien editoijan käyttämistä ja oppineet, että perusidea toimii, kun prosessia hiukan säädetään. Parhaillaan kokeilemme (ja palamme halusta kokeilla lisää), kuinka sosiaalisen median työkaluja voidaan hyödyntää lehtiprosessissa. Oppia kertyy siitäkin pikkuhiljaa.

Seminaarissa oli myös mainio paneelikeskustelu, jossa Tuula Antola (InnoSpa Consultingin perustajaosakas ja Kaipaus Oy:n toimitusjohtaja) totesi, että innovoinnissa on kyse maanläheisestä työnteosta. Näin me Maggiessakin uskomme, ja jatkamme kokeilemista ja oppimista.

Are we really having at go at Kate Moss, just for her saying something silly in an interview.

“Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels,” that’s what she said in an interview with WWD- fashion news website. As a nation we feel the need to criticise her for it, if I’d said it no one would think anything. It’s all down to the fact that she’s a celebrity. Famous and so therefore we care and take on board what she says. If we didn’t have this ‘celebrity’ culture where would the problem be, she would just be another thin model.

I myself at a size 8 (UK sizing) have been told by a modelling agency that I am ‘too fat’ to get onto the catwalk. Modelling agencies as much as they say they will try, still tend to be using thin models. This is due to the fact that it is the sample size designers make clothes in. Kate can’t help that, yes I agree she should be more careful about what she says but if it’s what she believes then we can’t change her. Every magazine that I have ever picked up has pages on dieting and weight–loss. They contain adverts for plastic surgery, liposuction. We crave the perfect body but what is the perfect body? We all keep changing our minds, shouldn’t celebrities and the media be teaching us how to love our selves for who we are. Not telling us we need to lose weight or gain weight. That should stay in the doctor’s hands.

If your happy being a size 6 then so be it, if your happy being a size 16 then so be it. Just love yourself for who you are!

Eating disorders are not something to be pushed aside, they are serious and promoting them is not a good thing, but I really don’t think that it’s Kate’s fault. We’ve just jumped straight to the conclusion that she said it out of stupidity. We didn’t stop and think; hang on this girl may just be suffering under pressure to be thin, she may feel she needs to be this thin to be loved. How do we know what she feels deep down? Yes it is worrying that young girls who have her as an idol are going to read this and think that it is right, but isn’t that just undermining young females. What if they read it and see it for what it is, words? I’m a massive Kate Moss fan and when I read in the papers that they feel young girls are going to starve themselves because of it, I felt low; how could they think that? I saw it as a cry for help.

 We forget that we have the government adverts on TV telling us all how bad fat can be, when I first saw one it scared me and made me more conscious of what I eat. This may just be me but is that not promoting the same thing? That we need to be a thinner nation, at least that’s what I understood of it. I know young children who worry about what they eat; they won’t touch sweets because of the fat. We all worry far too much about what we put in out bodies.

Pathetically enough, for my first post I’m going to complain about the curse of having psychotic ex-girlfriends who just completely screw with your mind. I mean, honestly what kind of person says:

What the hell? And how the hell do you respond to that? Especially when said psychotic ex-girlfriend broke your heart in the middle of a pregnancy scare and then starts dating someone new 3 days after it’s over. She needs a therapist, that is that. I can’t take much more of it.

In other news, I’ve found myself in a huge reading craze as of this past week since I started to hang out in Judy Bugs Bookstore, it’s like heaven on Earth. Currently indulging myself in Christopher Rice’s Snow Garden. I absolutely love his writing style, and though there is a lot of homoeroticism, it’s so fantastically well written that it’s worth it. Speaking on homoeroticism, I definitely ordered Interview With The Vampire so I may read it again and then read The Vampire Lestat.

Still no sign of a job, going to ask at the bookstore on Tuesday. Not a whole lot else going on, surviving the semester, worried about how I’m going to pay for the rest of college, wondering why the he’ll there are people outside being obnoxiously loud at 1:25 am. The usual.

They talked about coming up with a value statement (also called “motto,” “catch phrase,” or ” tag line”). What does your organization stand for? In our case, what does the Conference House stand for? I came up with, “The Conference House helps us understand what it’s like to be on the losing side.” Kirsten’s was better: “The Conference House demonstrates the importance of community dialogue even in the face of unfavorable odds.”

• Having a catch-phrase makes it easy to keep everyone on the same track. Examples: Colonial Williamsburg has “That the Future May Learn from the Past,” YMCA has “We build strong kids, strong families, strong communities.” Morris Jumel Mansion: “George Washington really did sleep here.”
• Everyone associated with us are our ambassadors—our board, our staff, our volunteers, the organizations we work with like the South Shore Artists Group, Staten Island Herb Society, the Fishermen’s Conservation Association, the people who walk dogs in the park, our members, etc. Everyone needs to be sending the same message.
• They suggested a motto contest: Winner receives a membership or some other small item as a reward. Or we can set up a survey on our website, with a list of possible mottoes and check-offs: “Which do you like best?”

“Fire people up so that they’re talking about your programs,” the presenters said. Find your success stories and repeat them whenever and wherever possible. Encourage your docents and members to bring the stories they hear back to the office.

I’ve been listening to Matisyahu’s “One Day” and it has greatly influenced and strucked me deeply.. Az, toda lecha achi:o)..

And somehow he’s putting words on my thoughts, on my feelings and my hopes, that we one day may be living together in peace and acceptance of eachother, no matter our differences..

So from this day, my motto is One Day! Especially with big emphasis on ONE!
