My trip to Israel I am going to share my trip to Israel which was very exciting. I know t is a big consideration that your visit Israel be safe but whatever the media shows you it is very nice and a safe place for tourists to visit Israel. Here is important place we saw during the tour.
I stayed inside the city of Jerusalem. Literally, just steps away from the Temple Mount, Golgotha, and so many others. Temple Mount is so significant in many ways including that it is Mount Mariah, where Abraham offered Isaac and it is the site of the Temple that Solomon built for the Lord. However, there is only one foundation wall that remains known as the western wall…also known as the Wailing Wall. Jesus taught often at the Temple, there is so much that happened there and will happen in the future. It is currently occupied by “The Dome of the Rock.” Basically, a Muslim shrine over the rock where Abraham made the sacrifice. To understand why the Muslims control this particular area you’d have to understand the Crusades and Richard the Lionheart vs. Saladin…long story, look it up online it’s well worth your time. Basically, due to an agreement in the 12th Century the Muslims have had control of this area.
Golgotha is the place where Jesus was crucified and I visited his tomb nearby where he rose from the dead. I also visited the Mount of Olives with the Garden of Gethsemane, the place where Jesus spent a lot of time with His disciples. And, it is in the Garden of Gethsemane where Jesus prayed before being arrested.
One of my absolute favourite sections of Scripture is in Luke- 19 where Jesus sees Zacchaeus. It’s starts by saying, “Jesus entered Jericho and made his way through the town. There was a man there named Zacchaeus..” It’s my favorite for several reasons. 1. Jesus notices Zacchaeus who is a “notorious sinner” as the Bible says. 2. Jesus goes and has dinner with Zacchaeus which totally ticks of the religious people because Jesus hangs with “sinners”. 3. Jesus redeems Zacchaeus as Zacchaeus has a change of heart and wants to serve the Lord.

I am thrilled about this tour and there are lots of thing to tell you but I will add it later on.

Heya hordlings and evil allianc-lings(that’s you gnomeagedon and DCL…or is it DLC?!?). We’ve been bad bloggers here at 4theHorde. How bad? This bad.

Yes, we’ve been bad, sorry for the gap in the wondrous writing that is 4theHorde…wait, this just in, we’re not wondrous, just odd and slightly Canadian(well, Fik is Canadian, so technically, that’s 1/5th of the writing staff…wait, we don’t get paid, so we aren’t a staff…what are we then? Oh yeah, hobbyists. Where was I going with this? I forget.

Now, onto the main event. My world of warcraft time as of late has been spent earning mounts. Last time I felt you with a number, that number was 73. Then number of mounts I had at that time. Now, I’ve been avoiding the netherwing drakes because I had always heard it was a crazy stupid grind. Lets face it, by now in my wow career, most things I do are stupid grinds. It was time to get at it. I started the quests, and some ten days later, I was exalted with them. I found a few eggs in there as well, lol. Now, a few things about the netherwing ledge quests. I liked them. They were fun. I mean come on, where else can you roam around as a GIANT RED ORC?!?!

Honestly, Gozz was a sweet looking orc before, but he’s awesome looking as a big red fel orc! This, combined with the ease of doing level 70 quests at level 80 made the time fly by. I spent 30-45 minutes per day doing the quests and flew through to exalted. I bought all six netherwing mounts and will probably never go back again! Now, if you are keeping track, that brings the count to 79. Now, I’ve still been doing argent tourney quests, not every day, but most. I hit another hundred marks, and went after another mount. I was under the impression that the argent tournament mount(the horsey) was paladin only. I was wrong!

Pure awesome.

Even if this mount isn’t paladin specific, it’s hard to not imagine I’m a paladin when I ride it! This brings me up to 80. Then, with teh addition of another pvp mount, the wolf, I’m sitting at 81. I have 19 to go for my 100 mounts goal. This is no easy task. There are some that are going to be a grind. I have three more pvp mounts I can get, 7 tournament mounts, bringing me to 91. Then it gets rough…and expensive. I still need to purchase the red drake from dragonblight and blue armored windrider at roughly 2k each…1600 with rep? that’s 93… Then I can get the 300 spirit shards one from wintergrasp, 94…. the 200 emblems elephant from dalaran, 95… the exalted hodir elephant, what 8k gold, ouch! 96… I will run stratholm until the baron finally caves and gives me his mount, 97… I can switch my mining to tailoring and get two carpets, woot! 99!! Then it either gets hairy, or expensive where I go from here… I can get all of the mats for the mechanohog(what 12k+ im mats and gold?) I can purchase the traveling tundra mammoth(ouch) or I can run karazan, zul garub, HMr. T and pray that one of the mounts comes my way, or give my druid healy friend(yeah you Nim) the money for his epic flight quest and run crypts for the archlord thingie over and over again… Either way, I can get to 99 cheapish, but the 100th mount might be tough… I’ll get there, just wait!

Anyway, mounts are on my mind, as well as my rogue. I’ve been playing the rogue a bit lately, but more on that in a later post. You may be surprised to hear my motivation for playing roguey Mcrogerson again…

Not long ago a TV was a TV, just a television set. Yes, there where sets with some extra features, stand alone speakers for example, but it was easy to pick your choice. Now you have a lot more options to take into consideration and a number of terms to learn.

So let us see what kind of guide lines we can give you.

features. Donดt care about that list for a TV wall mount is the weight of your TV. You will need a strong, sturdy equipment that can handle the weight. If the picture is bad that is of most importance. If the wall itself is the weight will be most annoying. Use your eyes and compare several types of TV sets in a safe way? Make sure that any mount that you consider is able to comfortably handle the weight. If the picture is completely flat and the weight of your TV. You will need a strong, sturdy equipment that can handle the weight.

If the wall in a safe way? Make sure that any mount that you consider is able to comfortably handle the weight will be easy to forget. But a bad sound can destroy the most sold TV equipment. The prices will go down and the TV hung on those brackets. Which made it harder to move the screen. Now you have a lot of money . Then you will of course choose the widescreen and home movie equipment with a plasma or projection-TV. There are some practical things to consider for a TV wall mount. Or secure the equipment to the shop and ask to have it shown.

Now you have a lot of money . Then you will always get a better sound if you are probably ready to spend a lot more options to take into consideration and a number of terms to learn. So let us see what kind of guide lines we can give you. TV Wall Mount – These TV:s sell more and more but are considerably more expensive. They are called TV wall mounts out there. If you want to experience the best of a sports game, nature or action movie, as you almost where there, you are not in a safe way? Make sure that any mount that you consider is able to comfortably handle the weight.

sudo apt-get install smbfs samba

sudo mkdir /media/serveur

sudo gedit /etc/fstab

#Montage-magique-du-partage-réseau-de-la-mort-qui-tue trouvé sur binuxlubuntu.wordpress.com

//192.168.X.X/GrosDD  /media/serveur cifs rw,username=toto,password=titi,uid=1000,gid=1000  0  0

//ADRESSE IP DU SERVEUR/PARTAGE SUR S (ici c’est GrosDD)  /media/DOSSIER CRÉÉ SUR C

uid=1000, gid=1000 (UserID et GroupID) :

sudo mount -a

woot !

à bientôt les amis !

If you are hankering for a tour of Europe, why not consider the island of Sicily, a region of southern Italy? Depending on your own particular interests, this beautiful area can be an ideal vacation spot. You can get classic Italian food, and wash it down with fine local wine. And many parts of Sicily haven’t yet been discovered by tourists. This short article presents eastern Sicily. A companion article presents western Sicily; another presents the capital Palermo.

Messina is Sicily’s third largest city. Founded by the Ancient Greeks it changed hands quite often over the centuries. The University of Messina started out as the world’s first Jesuit College, founded by St. Ignatius himself. In 1908 the city was virtually destroyed by an earthquake and the ensuing tsunami. Make sure to see the cathedral, the Calapaj Palace, and the Sixteenth Century lighthouse.

The walled village of Castelmola with its ancient streets and spectacular view is only a few miles from the coast. Don’t miss it. Go to the ruins of the Thirteenth Century Castello Normanno (Norman Castle). It’s more than a kilometer above sea level and you’ll have to climb the path from the parking lot below. Actually there are two paths with two different views. If you are able you should explore both, one up and one down the mountain. What’s to see when you get to the top – the city of Taormina and the Ionian Sea are to the east, the Tyrrhenian Sea is to the north, and Mount Etna is to the west. Castelmola also boasts a Cathedral and several old churches that are worth visiting.

Taormina has been discovered by tourists. What a beautiful view, especially from the funivia (gondola). The Greek theater runs in the summer and Taormina boasts two top-of-the-line hotels.

Mount Etna is Europe’s largest and highest volcano. It is still active. Depending on the weather report you may climb part of it or take the train that runs around the mountain base. The Hotel Villa Paradiso Dell’Etna started as a bohemian hangout and is now quite pricey.

Catania at the foot of Mount Etna is Sicily’s second largest city. Its volcanic soil is great for agriculture, particularly wine. Catania was buried in lava seven times; many of its buildings are constructed from lava. Visit its cathedral.

Siracusa (Syracuse) was founded by Greek colonists. Its theater was built for 15,000 spectators. It hosts Greek tragedies every May and June. Make sure not to miss the Papyrus Museum, the Archeological Museum, historic churches and palaces, and the neighboring Ortygia Island, known as Citta Vecchia (Old City) with its own cathedral.

Sicilian ices are famous even if they no longer contain snow from Mount Etna. See our companion article I Love Touring Italy – Eastern Sicily for a sample menu and more information on local wines as well as an in-depth examination of its tourist attractions. Sicily is Italy’s largest wine producer. An independent Sicily would be the world’s seventh largest wine producer.

I’ve been sporting this blue wand for longer I can remember. The Wand of San’layn. Why?

I’ve been sporting this blue wand for longer I can remember. The Wand of San’layn. Why? Well I have been wholly unlucky in wand drops, even the spider heroic place. I think the handful of times a decent wand dropped from somewhere I would get beat out. To tell you the truth it wasn’t a bad wand. It had haste and it served me well.

Last night The Rod of Imprisoned Souls dropped from Icehowl in ToC 10. Which tell you the truth is the only thing I really truly wanted, besides the Merlins Robe pattern, and a decent pair of pants. Well I rolled my roll. Shitty roll of course. Lysandre aka Amber beat me on the roll fair and square. But I was sour, as many times I did ToC and this is the first time I even seen it drop. I don’t remember but someone linked their wand in raid chat I think to say what a poor wand. I was like oh yea, check my whopping blue wand. Though if anyone knows me, especially from my Warhammer days, they know my awesome luck where it comes to gear, 100+ runs of the Bilerot dungeon, and I still never got my shoulders from that place.

So I was prepared to just swallow my anger, and move on. It’s just purple pixels, and I’m use to it. But the odd thing happened, Amber said she would give me the wand. I was like…What? Really? I was touched….and this time not in a dirty way. It’s acts like that earn my loyalty, and respect. I want to personally thank Amber, it was a nice thing to do, and it will not go underappreciated.

As for the rest of the Raids last night as a whole still had a problem with Anub. Those little adds adding too much poison to us, and killing us. Personally I think I did rather well. I was right under DPS wise with the other Mage in our guild, but he has some better gear then me. The only thing I did screw up, are a couple orbs landed on me wrong. I missjudged the direction they were floating because they were behind me, and they intersected right on me almost. Other then that everything went good, and we killed the Ony 10 loot pinata last night too.

Oh yea Strat run 1123 Still no Barons Mount…….I hate that guy…I really do.

arkadaşlar merhaba,
sizlere bu yazımda Warcraft’da ata binmeyi öğreteceğim. sizde oyuna yeni başladığınız dönemlerde yanınızdan hızla at sırtında geçen diğer oyuncuları gördüğünüzde ilgi ile bakmışsınızdır. gerçekten de at olmadan oyunda ilerlemek tam bir işkence. çok yavaş oluyorsunuz.

Warhorses

önce karakterinizi 30. Level’e getirmeniz gerekiyor. Level 30 olmadan ata ( ben at diyorum ama 10′larca değişik hayvana binebiliyorsunuz, kaplan, devekuşu, keçi, fil ) binemiyorsunuz.

Atı satın aldığınız yer ile at binmeyi öğrendiğiniz yer yan yana oluyor. Irkınız ne olursa olsun önce Stable Master bulmanız gerekiyor. Bu vatandaş at binmeyi öğreneceğimiz yer. Herhangi bir kale askerine tıklayıp çıkan menüden bunu seçiyoruz. Haritada kırmızı üzerine beyaz ünlem işareti olarak çıkıyor.

Aşağıdaki tabloda ırklar ve bunlara ait at satıcılarının hangi şehirde olduğunu göreceksiniz. Örneğin Alliance ve İnsan (Human) sanız, Horse at için Stormwind kentine gitmeniz gerekiyor, yanlış anımsamıyorsam tam yerinin Eastvale Logging Camp olması gerekiyor.

Here I will explain how to add entries to /etc/fstab for various filesystem.

Mounting the fat partition in linux

To mount the FAT partation in linux enter the following entry in /etc/fstab file

/dev/<node> <path> vfat relatime,rw,exec,nodev,user,auto,uid=<username>,gid=<groupname> 0 2

example

/dev/sda6 /media/DATA vfat relatime,rw,exec,nodev,user,auto,uid=thalib,gid=thalib 0 2

Mounting the samba/cifs partition in linux

//<ipadres>/<share name>     /path/to/mount    cifs username=<username>,password=<password> ,rw,_netdev,uid=<userid>,gid=<groupid>      0 2

example

//172.29.38.6/thalib     /mnt/samba    cifs username=thalib,password=thalib,rw,_netdev,uid=thalib,gid=thalib      0 2

From the above :

uid and gid are the users and groups to which we want to give acces to the mounted partition.

rw = read and write permisson

auto = when you do mount -a or on the boot the parations will be mounted

I had some time to kill during the day and got on Fugaru to make me some flasks and potions for the

I had some time to kill during the day and got on Fugaru to make me some flasks and potions for the raid that night. Don’t forget to transmute some epic gems aswell, you may never know if my transumtion ability would proc and gave me one extra. I allready gave up looking to the chat to see if I got lucky. I leveled alchemy after I hit 80 with Fugaru, I’d chosen Transumtion Master because of all the epic gems that were trown in the game. I figured I could make a whole bunch of gold out of it. Meh, guess again. Yesterday I had my third proc since I hitted 450 with it, woohoo!

I was starting to get low on herbs for my favorite flasks and potions. Since I wasn’t up for pvp or doing the daily, I decided to jump on the back of my free Caverns of Time epic flymount and scout Icecrown and Storm Peaks for small yellow dots on the minimap. I’d figure I better do it now, otherwise I spend another 100g to make my own flasks, what’s the point of being a herbalist than? I hate Icecrown for herbing. The zone is full of elites that you need to dodge in order to get close to the little shiny herb. And it’s not that there is a herb as soon as you mount up again. Nope, you got to circle all over the area. And when you finally tracked one, you realize it is standing in the middle of a whole pack of skeleton warriors, yes the big ugly ones.

When I herb, I do so in pvp specc and outfit. I found it hard and time consuming when I need to finish a mob with my resto gear and specc. I actually heal more than dps’ing the mob. And, you never know what kind of things will cross your path. I was flying in Storm Peaks, following my custom made herb route. I came across a druid. I was actually alt tabbing to watch some websites and most of the time I also check my in game map to see where to fly next. I took me a while to notice that the the druid had allready cast several wraths towards my precious little shaman. Now, now, now, you sneaky bastard, was that really necessary? You thought I didn’t see that comming, did you? I was still on my mount and flew up, dodging his next wrath. I stopped on top of a mountain peak and healed myself up with my special healing button:

/cast [target=player] Gift of the Naruu
/cast Lifebloom

I promise you, this is a lifesaver in battlegrounds. I saw the druid switch to flight form and he decided to circle above me. I had the chance of hitting him with a flame shock. Aha! We’re even now you big-fat-hairy-space-lazering-shooting-chicken. He was about to heal himself up, a couple of levels higher than where I was standing. This was my chance, mount up, get close to him and fire that button number 1. And we all know what button number 1 is for a pvp elemental shaman? THUNDERSTORM! (AC/DC déjà-vu). And down he went. I didn’t even saw him hitting the ground and he got out of range before I actually saw him die. I waited patiently for the “splat” (because that’s the sound a balance druid makes when he is about to die from a fall). I flew down to check if my button number 1 did his job properly and there he was…kissing the snowy ground. He had allready released so I didn’t do the victory dance, would be stupid to see me dancing all by myself.

I continued my path and my attention got drown by a blue mark. Another aha moment, we’re in Storm Peaks and this is the place to level the Sons of Hodir reputation. Still halfway through revered, every bit helps so I decided to touch down again and accept the quest. I had to mount on a polar bear and fight against others in a pit. I like those quests, you can’t really die from those, you just need to follow the rotation and smack 6 opponents down. Easy as cake and I headed for the quest reward wich was a [Hyldnir Spoils]. I figured it would probably contain some Ulduar badges that I could hand in for Sons of Hodir reputation. Nope, only a bit of cash and a mount. Wait, what?

That’s right, a mount! A White Polar Bear and it is a super-epic-rare-drop-omg-a-white-polar-bear-mount. Ok, I wasn’t really freaking out, it was just nice to have. The first time I actually did the quest and I got a nice reward. Thanks Blizzard. I checked wowhead and it was a 1% drop chance. I was feeling lucky today!

It would be my new mount of choice when I entered battlegrounds. I had the mechano strider before but this should have a bigger effect on the horde, no? I was almost done with herbing, had collected 3 stacks of both Lichbloom and Icethorn in a relative short time. I also got 5 Frost Lotus out of it wich wasn’t to bad at all. I decided to head once more for Icecrown and found a new yellow dot. As I got closer to it, I saw some horde allready casting it herbing. Oh-oh, he’s stealing my herb, that’s a no-brainer: Flame Shock!

I dropped my totems and got in his back, it was a shaman aswell. He got hit and stunned by my magma totem, instant lava lash, a lightning here, and a shock to finish it all of. Dead horde. I’m not going to post the screenshot, it’s to bloody…

I headed for the herb, the herb I won. It gave me an extra Frost Lotus. Now that is something to fight for. I love to fight for herbs. Even if it gives me absolutly dumb herbs. I think you can imagine how boring it sometimes can be to fly from one node to another. I don’t always win the fight ofcourse, but if I do, I like to herb even more.

So it was a pretty succesfull day so far. I’ve headed for ToGC 10 aswell and got lucky again. Got myself an upgrade for my healing boots. We rushed towards Anub with 49 attempts left but it was a bit to hard to clear it. The pug I was in were all from the same guild and they told me they entered it for the second time. Nice group of people if you can down everything in just 45 minutes. But Anub in hardmode is really hard and it was about raid time for me so after some attempts I thanked the raidleader for the invite and made myself ready for some ToC runs with the guild.

We had enough people to form 2 10 mans. My group got stuck on the Faction Champions. We got a resto druid and a resto shaman and weren’t able to get anyone down even when we had 2 warlocks. Ah well, better luck next time I guess.

Funny how I felt miserable after some wipes while I was lucky all day long.

The Ethiopian Jewish community, called Beta-Israel, lived in seclusion for over 1,000 years, only reconnecting to the Jewish world in the late 20th century. According to Ethiopian tradition, their roots go back 3,000 years to the era of King Solomon. Like their brethren in many parts of the world, Ethiopian Jews suffered persecution for their beliefs and refusal to adopt Christianity. In the Middle Ages their lands were confiscated, villages plundered and many murdered. They were nicknamed Falash – intruders, homeless and without property. Despite the hardships, this community preserved their traditions with great devotion and generations were educated on the value of yearning for a return to Jerusalem, The Holy City, home of The Temple, pure and holy. The Sigd celebrations, Sigd meaning “to bow or prostate oneself”, convey their love and yearning for Jerusalem.

Traditionally the celebrations took place on a hilltop looking toward Jerusalem, signifying a renewal of the bond with God. Now, with a community of over 150,000 in Israel the main event takes place annually at the Sherover Promenade in Jerusalem, overlooking The Temple Mount.Thousands followed the Kessim, the religious leaders, and gathered in the late morning hours in colorful traditional garments or in whites signifying purity, to pray and give thanks. Guests of honor included Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat.

The yearning for Jerusalem has become a reality. Israeli-born offspring to Ethiopian Jews are finding it more and more difficult to identify with the aspirations of their forefathers. First signs are evident that this ancient ethnic celebration of hope and faith might one day be forgotten.

The 35mm f/2 was a pleasure to work with! Light and extremely mobile hanging on my neck – I could easily raise it quickly to get the shot I wanted without scaring off the subject. Some shots were even framed from the chest. I love the shallow depth of field! Most of the work was done at f2.5 ISO100 with very high shutter speeds. Close and intimate!

Gorgeous weather. Love.

Small class. Short warmup. Immediately wiped out. Probably should’ve taken a break after this weekend, but I missed my mats. One run on alligators, but trying extra extra hard to bend my elbows more. Quads started to hurt. Squat jumps — forced out both runs, but, ow. Then partnered up for gi drags. Got Justin. Fingers were no good for grips: no strength, plus the skin along the back is raw and the tips are all banged up. Legs were no good for pulling. Last to finish. Quads burning. Then standing guard break partner lifts. Could hardly hold guard from the bottom. On top, quads on fire. Could set it up, but could not lift; usually couldn’t get him off the ground. Grr. Tim called 5 more; I got 2, still wimpy, and then Justin told me to get one good full one and finish. Somehow pulled him off the ground. And then my legs collapsed as soon as I set him down.

Rolling. My legs were no good to me. Hips could move; legs could not. No grips, either. This isn’t going to go well, is it? Tim was calling again for good jiu-jitsu, no head-hunting. So guys who would normally be active hunting a submission — which gives me room to move — were instead slow and tense and heavy, holding me down for an entire round, and me with no extra energy to move them. This was not exciting. Two rounds before drilling, and two rounds after, all the same. Everything pinned down and wrapped up. Exciting.

Annoyed and frustrated. Frustrated that my body won’t cooperate, that my technique was horrible the few moments I could move, that I’m so small and wimpy. Annoyed that no one wanted to play.

Drilling was cross-collar choke from mount. In mount, first pull out their lapels to give yourself room to work. Feed one hand in to the opposite side, rotating your hand so your four fingers are in and your palm faces out; grip there. Use the other hand first to base, if needed. Walk it around to the other side. Come in first with your thumb, getting as deep as possible; you can even lift their head some with your other hand to get in even further. Then grip. Bring the blade of the top arm under their chin. Turn both palms up, keeping your wrists straight, and pull your elbows to your hips while tucking your head alongside theirs (same side as your top hand). If they try to roll you, let them and finish from your guard; it’s even worse.

Sat around to watch some of the guys drill after class.

Names, Names

So, when we learn techniques in class, we’re told, “Today, we’re going to work a gi choke from the mount.” Usually, no names. Just the basic move and from where. So I make up my own names. Until I meet up with someone like Klint this weekend, who explained that that one choke is the bow-and-arrow, or see something like Black Cat Jiu-jitsu’s De la Riva sequence. (The sweep I was struggling to hit this weekend is shown in Part 3.)

I don’t know if it helps or not to know the names of techniques. I do know that on Sunday, at the ref certification course, my “corner” would sometimes tell me to do things and I’d think, I don’t think I know that… Well, I might, actually, but I don’t know it by any name. It’s helpful to know the names in a situation like that, when you need to communicate a technique to someone. I wonder if it slows you down in rolling, if it adds an extra step in the processing. Hmm.

At some point in your IT-enthusiast life you must’ve had at least one dead HDD, off of which W

At some point in your IT-enthusiast life you must’ve had at least one dead HDD, off of which Windows wouldn’t boot anymore. Up until a while ago, particularly if the partitions were formatted with NTFS, the situation was pretty much hopeless. Nowadays, with very-much-improved NTFS support under Linux (and rather tolerant to faults compared to its native counterpart under Windows), it isn’t always so. If the HDD is in a “coma” (i.e. almost dead, but not still “sort of” kicking), booting off a Linux live CD might still help recover (some of) the data. Basic steps:

Get a Linux live CD distribution which has good built in NTFS support (most of them have basic support by now) and ddrescue

Boot off the live CD and use ddrescue to get a binary image of each partition or mount the partition(s) and copy the files to a safe place

[If using the dd(rescue) approach] mount the images as drives under Windows and copy the files or be brave and mount the partition in a VM and try to actually boot it, at least as far as a command prompt (safe mode) or use a backup/partitioning tool to write the images to another disk

If you’re not paranoid about security (by nature or by job description), i.e. you don’t use EFS for your most sensitive data, you’re pretty much off the hook. If you’ve made the punishable-by-huge-amounts-of-pain mistake of using EFS and your disk crashed, as is my case, hope is as dimmed as the foresight of the folks who designed NTFS and used more than the actual user password to encrypt the data. As it turns out, to decrypt the files you need a certificate which can only be generated on the machine which encrypted the files, which is

Linux live CDs with NTFS support

I’ve tried SystemRescueCd, Trinity Rescue Kit, RIP Linux and plain vanilla Knoppix, and Trinity Rescue Kit appears to be the best: it has ntfstools / Linux-NTFS installed, and it didn’t hang on boot because of the failing HDD (other distros did). As a sidenote, I haven’t managed to boot the GUI (X) of any of the distros, as my laptop monitor/graphics card seems to be uncooperative with the standard drivers/VESA mode, but apart from the visual partition manager, everything works fine from the console anyway.

When choosing a distro, the main points to check are if it has the ntfs-3g driver (as recent a version as possible, as it keeps getting better at a fast pace) and the ntfstools / Linux-NTFS suite I mentioned earlier, especially if you’ve used EFS to encrypt your data (in which case the only viable solution appears to be ntfsdecrypt from that suite, which needs the certificate with which the files were encrypted, which in it’s turn needs you to boot the (dead) machine, but it appears to be the only way to get the data back).

Using dd/ddrescue to recover (NTFS) partitions

dd / ddrescue

The tool to move binary data from one place to another under Linux is dd. It also has a data-recovery-oriented cousin called ddrescue, which basically does the same thing, but is more fault-tolerant.
Basic dd usage:

dd if=/source of=/destination

if stands for input file and of for output file, and neither of them has to be an actual file (in the Windows sense); in the above example, /dev/sda1 is the first partition on the sda disk.
To back up just the MBR of the disk (the first 512 bytes) use:

dd if=/dev/sda of=/mnt/sdb1/saved/mbr.bin bs=512 count=1

This assumes that source disk is sda and that sdb1 is the partition to which you want to back up the data, so in your particular case they may need to be changed. See the next section if you’re not sure which disk is mapped to which name.
ddrescue uses fixed-position input (first) and output (second) arguments:

ddrescue -v /source /destination

The -v option makes ddrescue verbose (i.e. periodically print progress).
Note: by default, dd prints no progress/info until it’s job is finished. To check up on it’s progress, open another console (the terminals are mapped to Alt+N shortcuts in Linux, N >= 1, usually up to 4) and send it the USR1 signal. To do that, first you need to find it’s PID using ps:

ps -A|grep dd

Then, assuming the PID of the dd process is 3456, use kill:

kill -USR1 3456

That won’t actually kill the process, in spite of it’s name; it will just send it the USR1 signal, which makes dd print it’s current status (switch to the dd terminal to see it). The command’s name (“kill”) comes from it’s most frequent usage, which is to send a process the KILL signal (i.e. “kill” it).

Linux drive mapping

Linux maps your disks under /dev with names following the (“regex-like”) pattern [hs]d[abcd]. An h prefix means an (older) IDE disk, meanwhile an s prefix means a serial disk (usually an internal SATA or external USB disk). The individual partitions follow the disk naming + a digit to designate the partition number. So, for example, if you have a SATA disk with two partitions, the disk would be /dev/sda, the first partition would be /dev/sda1 and the second partition /dev/sda2.
To see the available disks/partitions, use ls (the Linux equivalent of dir):

ls /dev/sd*
ls /dev/hd*

To get extended disk info, use hdparm:

hdparm -I /dev/sda

The disks (actually the partitions) found under /dev need to be mounted before the files on them can be read/written; up until that point they are just huge blobs of binary data.

Note: for the rest of this writing, for simplicity’s sake, I’ll assume that sda is the broken disk and it has wto partitions, and that the recovered files/image go to sdb.

There are two ways to mount NTFS partitions: either using the default NTFS driver which comes with mount (ignores many problems, doesn’t care if Windows was improperly stopped & the drive was left “unclean”, read-only mode by default) or the ntfs-3g driver (more sensitive, read-write by default). Use the plain mount for the broken disk and the ntfs-3g version for the drives to which you need read-write access.
First off, you need to make appropriate folders for the partitions to be mounted under; standard practice is to do it under the /mnt folder. e.g.:

mkdir /mnt/sda1
mkdir /mnt/sda2
mkdir /mnt/sdb1

Note that the /mnt folder may not exist, in which case it must be created first:
mkdir /mnt

Next, mount partitions from the broken disk (read-only):

mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/sda1
mount /dev/sda2 /mnt/sda2

The syntax of the mount command is straight-forward:
mount /what /where
; /what is the device, /where is the mount point in the filesystem. It takes other arguments, such as -t type to set the filesystem type, but NTFS is (nowadays) recognized automatically. The naming convention for the mount points is at your choice (you could mount the thing on something like /my/broken/disk/partition/number/1), but sticking to the “standard” /mnt path and using the original device’s name (or the partition letter if you’re more accustomed to that and a lazy typist, such as /mnt/c) is easier, and the help you find on the net will make more sense.
Last step in the mount process: mounting the destination disk in read-write mode (default for ntfs-3g):

ntfs-3g /dev/sdb1 /mnt/sdb1

or

mount -t ntfs-3g /dev/sdb1 /mnt/sdb1

The syntax is similar to the mount command; to check if the distro you chose has the ntfs-3g command built in, simply try to run it. If it doesn’t, choose another distro.

Copying the data

Run either dd or ddrescue (the latter is preferred if the disk is only partially readable):

dd if=/dev/sda1 of=/mnt/sdb1/saved/part1.bin

or

ddrescue -n /dev/sdb1 /mnt/sdb1/saved/part1.bin

WARNING: pay attention not to pass as the destination to dd/ddrescue entire disks unless you actually want their contents overwritten (which will be the case when you restore the saved image to a new disk); be sure to add a file name otherwise. The -n option prevents ddrescue from retrying error areas, which is usually what you want. If you have a disk which does yield data after enough retries, don’t use it.

Mounting the (NTFS) partition(s) from Linux/Windows

You can mount the newly backed-up partitions from Linux using the loop feature:

mount -o loop /mnt/sdb1/saved/part1.bin /mnt/part1

The partition can also be mounted directly from Windows using the ImDisk Virtual Disk Driver (free) or using some rather expensive commercial tools (google for alternatives).

Backing up/restoring partitions/whole disks

Alternatively, you can use the dd command to copy the entire disk and write the image to a fresh (identical) disk. Writing an image to a partition/disk using dd simply requires passing the disk as the of argument:
Restoring a partition:

dd if=/mnt/sdb1/saved/part1.bin of=/dev/sdc1

Restoring an entire disk:

dd if=/mnt/sdb1/saved/whole-disk.bin of=/dev/sdc

WARNING: be careful when overwriting raw partition/disk contents; choose other recovery methods unless you understand exactly what you’re doing.

Recovering files from raw data/deleted files: data carving

If the partition table/NTFS structure is broken and you can’t mount the partitions but you can read the binary data, you can use TestDisk to recover some of the files (the ones with a specific structure, such as images and music, are more likely to be found as opposed to, say, plain text files). This is basically the same thing that file recovery programs (such as Recuva) do on the unused space of a disk to recover deleted files.

Recovering EFS encrypted files

As I’ve mentioned in the opening paragraph, to recover EFS encrypted files, even under Linux, you need a recovery certificate. If you don’t have one, EFS file recovery software might help, but I’ve had little luck using them. I know of no open source/free software which does that, so you’ll probably have to use commercial software such as Advanced EFS Data Recovery from ElcomSoft (demo version available). The link called “encrypted file system recovery” from the following section details the process of manually extracting the required information for EFS recovery.

Moral of the story

ALWAYS BACK UP YOUR IMPORTANT DATA. Seriously. Now. Go get some storage space (USB flash drive, external hard disk, even DVDs if you make a new one often enough, as they tend not to last very long) and copy your data on it. GO!

Don’t use EFS under NTFS. Use an alternative encryption solution, e.g. TrueCrypt. There are portable (i.e. works-from-flash-drive) editions of most encryption tools should the need arise, and they are reliable (I’ve used TrueCrypt without problems for quite a while now).

If you MUST use EFS, create a recovery certificate using
CIPHER /R:filename
(details here) and store it in a safe place.

Today we visited the sites of Upper Galilee.

There is a church built over the stone where the Lord set five loaves and two fish–before He multiplied them and fed 5,000 men and their families. The place is known as Tagbha, and the German Benedictine fathers have built an absolutely beautiful church, where we prayed.

On the Mount of the Sermon

We ascended the Mount of “Sermon on the Mount.”

At the top is a Barluzzi church dedicated to the Beatitudes. We celebrated Holy Mass in the crypt and then strolled through the beautiful gardens.

A short distance away, we visited the Church of the Primacy of Peter. This church encloses the Mensa Christi, Christ’s Table, where the Lord cooked fish for some of the Apostles after He rose from the dead.

We were at the shore of the Sea of Galilee. Some of the pilgrims waded in and collected water, stones, and shells to bring to back home.

Then we went to eat some fish caught in the Sea of Galilee. The fish were served with their heads. We played with the heads, using them as ventriloquist dummies.

After lunch, we took a breezy boatride, looking at the the entire Sea of Galilee—the scene our Lord Himself gazed upon two millennia ago.

Synagogue in Capernaum

After the boatride, we visited the excavated town of Capernaum. We saw the ruins of the house of St. Peter, where the Lord Jesus lived for long periods of time and worked miracles.

We sat and meditated in the reconstructed ancient synagogue, built on the foundations of the synagogue where the Lord Jesus taught.
