Wow. Great movie, just for the simple fact that someone was capable of making a film without stupid

Wow. Great movie, just for the simple fact that someone was capable of making a film without stupid things jumping out at you like those youtube shockers and things of that nature (we’ve all encountered the maze or color test I’m sure)

This has by far been one of the best paranormal movies I think I have ever seen. It’s no wonder this $25,000.00 budget movie made uber millions! This movie takes you through a view of the other side, which if you’ve never experienced a paranormal event, it gives you a pretty good idea of what types of things you could expect. Footsteps, scratching, knocking, inhuman breathing through EVP (electronic voice phenomenon). I have heard of people being disappointed in this movie and that is probably due to the fact that they’re so used to having something leap out at you with some wacky film effects and lots of LFE going on.

Paranormal Activity gets a 5/5 in my movie rating book for thrills and suspense. This movie exemplifies how a paranormal thriller should be! Honestly, I did not even want to look at my monitor in full screen because I was completely suspecting some wild looking demonic figure to just pop out in front of the camera to make me have to put on my Depends =P.

The boyfriend however was a serious douche who just made everything worse, to all you kids out there interested in playing with a Ouija board or spirit board, DON’T DO IT! Take it from someone who has had numerous paranormal events in his life and has certain abilities. Pissing off an inhuman is definitely something you do not want to do….The ending was a disappointment to a point, I wish they wouldn’t have shot Katie at the end, I know that’s kinda the point, but still, could have made it longer and shown the after effects and stuff, ah well, I just know what I would’ve liked to have seen ending-wise.

Feel free to leave your comments!

I’ve been brewing some ideas on how to better improve the social media world. Remove the Integrated

I’ve been brewing some ideas on how to better improve the social media world.

Remove the Integrated Inbox. Quit it. It’s not helpful, it’s annoying, and it’s useless. But for some reason, every website thinks it’s a good idea to allocate resources, server space and man-power to the one thing you can guarantee everyone on the internet already has: their own e-mail address. I don’t see how this idea caught-on among the various social media sites, because it’s nothing but fat to be cute. Though alerts can be turned off, which is a step in the right direction: some sites go as far as e-mailing you that you have a message in your inbox. Just tell me, the goddamn, message.

I guess an even better solution would be a deal with a e-mail provider, like Google, where you can install an application to handle inboxes for various other sites. Much like a feed reader, you could simply browse through your Last.fm inbox, Facebook inbox, all from the comfort of your web-based browser: hopefully giving you the options to further filter those messages through the various settings on your regular e-mail address: like filters, labels and starring and search capabilities.

Texting Netflix has long been a dream of mine, and finally made possible with sites like Kwiry, but we’re not done just yet. Picture this: you’re in a movie theater, and you’ve just seen a movie that was fantastic. You can’t wait to go home and rate it, and tell all your friends how much you like it, and how fast they need to get out and go see it.

Movie Night
Originally uploaded by Kllerbreed

Now, wouldn’t it be nice if you at the end of the movie was a number to text your review, which will be fed to your Netflix queue to more quickly show your opinion of the movie: while simultaneously being collected by the movie industries to get near-instant feedback on the movie’s reception.

Offer Downloads, because people like me use them. This is another personal thing for me, but I can’t get enough of the little stuff when it comes to branding. If your site offers buddy icons, wallpapers, screensavers and other cool downloads, that’s a page full of free advertising that people like me eat up. I’ve noticed pages like that have started to diminish among various groups and sites: but I don’t understand how that’s not a staple of every TV show site, band, movie company and political group. C’mon people, it’s free.

And please, no more of those stupid one-use widgets to “Simpsonize” myself: give me something I can actually use. And offer some goddamn 1920×1080 wallpaper while you’re at it.

Football, and other sports like baseball and basketball seem to have the biggest budgets for advertising, but have yet to put together an amazing social media platform. It’s strange to think about how many millions of Americans are sports fans, but how little been done to harness this potentially huge market. All the fan interaction and information to be shared just screams potential. And in what aspect of culture do more Americans voice their opinions in more than sports?

Don’t get me wrong, some sites like ToppsTown are rising to the top, to capitalize on this market: but the fact that no major force has come to power over this is a little shocking. In addition, the personalities of professional players are goldmines alone: look at Chad Ochocinco’s success in launching an iPhone app, and his own news network.

Last.fm has made a business of connecting music fans. Facebook made millions connecting college students. Flickr has established itself connecting photographers. Yet no dominate social network has taken over sports. Strange.

Well people, there you go: three posts about how to make the internet more awesome. Now there’s no excuse. And please, share these ideas and collect your own to share!

I realized that I had not formally explained how we rate movies here. Well here we go, the JPF I’m Outta Here Movie Thoughts movie ratings scheme. Going from a bad/crap movie to a great movie we have:

(1) The dung heap, if a movie is in the dung heap . . . well I think it is self-explanatory;

(2) Not crap. If a movie is not crap that is the equivalent of the Catholic Church’s purgatory, not so bad but not great; then

(3) The rose. If you remember our first post we are in search of those beautiful roses that grow out of the dung heaps. If a movie gets a rose, watch it and (hopefully) you will enjoy.

Well that is it, pretty simple huh?

Thousands of confused parents rent ‘Cockgobblins’ DVD for their kids The Motion Picture Association

Thousands of confused parents rent ‘Cockgobblins’ DVD for their kids

The Motion Picture Association of America has long been viewed as somewhat of a joke, arbitrarily assigning ratings to movies based on personal taste and bias, as opposed to a film’s actual content.

“And that’s assuming we even watch the movie at all,” said MPAA rater Jake Dalone. “Usually we just slap a rating that seems vaguely appropriate on them, then spend the rest of the day getting drunk at TGI Friday’s. I guess that’s how this all happened.”

Dalone is referring to the fact that the MPAA recently gave the hardcore oral porn video ‘Cockgobblins’ a G rating, suggesting it was suitable for all viewers.

“The first time someone told me the title he coughed during the ‘cock’ part, so I just heard ‘goblins,’” said Dalone. “It sounded harmless enough to me, like some animated kid thing. Pretty funny, really.”

America’s parents weren’t quite so amused.

“I put the DVD on for my 8-year-old and left the room like I always do,” said Sally Algren of Knoxville, Tennessee. “Next thing I know he runs in asking if daddy ever stabbed me in the face with his pee-pee. Thanks a lot, MPAA.”

Did you know that “Movie Rating” has become a Huge Business? and a Money making Racket for Televisio

Did you know that “Movie Rating” has become a Huge Business?

and a Money making Racket for Television Shows and Newspapers?

Have you ever wondered who these people are, who write reviews on Cinema?

With just a little probe you will realize that people like Taran Adarsh,

and Komal Natha, are nothing but people who have No Qualification or

Experience Direction, Editing, Screenplay or any aspect of Movie Making !

For them Rating a Movie is taking home bread and butter for their families!

* Do we need Movie Ratings?? **** ?

What are Movies?

They are plain Entertainers!

Do we need a Rating for the Circus in town? No !

We want to spend some money and get entertained, so we

buy a ticket and get entertained !

Similarly you buy some space in a Movie Hall for 2 and a half hours

And you get yourself entertained by the Actors or Actresses who make u

happy or whom you admire. That’s all !

If the circus in town is not rated, why rate a movie? both are Entertainers!

* How can a Friday decide the Fate of a Movie??

A movie will do well only if people’s opinions are not

Over-ruled by a Movie Journalist’s Ratings on a Friday.

Only after a 2 week’s collection it can be decided if the

Movie is doing Good Business or Not.

How can a movie-critic give a movie 1 star Rating and expect

people to go and watch the movie and the movie to do

well when he has himself brain-washed lacs of readers on

A Friday?

* Politics in Movie Rating ??

Movie Journalists, who are totally inexperienced in cinema making,

Like Nikhat Kamat, Subhash K Jha, Mayank Shekhar, Meena Iyer,

Get paid a hefty amount to just Rate a movie!

Besides they get a kick of the fact that they can Make or

Break a movie’s destiny in one day!

They can command the respect of Directors and Actors just

because they have the power to give them a 4 star or a 1 star rating!

Movie Journalists can give a 1 star Rating to a Director who

has refused to give them an interview in the past, or with an

Actor whom they have a problem with… or even if they have been

Bribed by another actor, producer or director to give a Rival Director’s

Movie a Bad rating so that there is no competition when two movies

Release on the same day or same week!

* Did you know that Movie Critics take Bribes and Favors to

Rate a movie with 3+ stars?

Have you ever thought why some movies that you didn’t like

were rated 3+ stars?

And some movies that you later watched on a DVD and liked

a lot were given just 1 star?

Its deep-rooted politics amongst the movie journalists which is

behind all this game!

Some Actors who are good business men, pay for the 3 star rating

Just like they pay for their Awards!

Do not mistake a Movie Journalist to be a Social / Political News Reporter.

A Movie Journalist makes money out of cheap Gossips, Misleading Rumors,

and taking bribes, to give a Movie its 3 star rating !

Should Movie Rating be Banned in India??

The Film Industry is one of the largest industries in India, giving employment

to thousands of people in a year.

It takes a lot of effort to make a movie !

But this effort is crumbled into pieces on a Friday when the destiny of

A movie is decided by its Rating by an in-experienced Movie Journalist.

No two minds are alike, your friend can like the movie which you

Completely dislike.

How can you trust a Movie Critic’s Opinion who is a Nobody, not even a film maker! ??

Moral of the Story :

Judging a Movie simply by a “Movie Critic’s Ratings”

Is “Injustice” to the Movie first and then to Your Intelligence!

The X-Files: I Want to Believe

“I don’t work with Fox Mulder anymore…I don’t work with the FBI.” A world of Sci-Fi fans wished otherwise, and they got their wish with the new Chris Carter directed film The X-Files: I Want to Believe.

The character who spoke these words in the dawn of the film, Dr. Dana Scully (no longer holding the title “Agent”), played by Gillian Anderson, was joined by former X-files TV co-star David Duchovny. The two actors reprised their roles as Mulder and Scully, probably for the last time, to satisfy an audience who 11 years after the first season of the Fox series are still hoping “the Truth is out there” for these two enigmatic former FBI agents.

The 9-season X-files series evolved over its run, and explored cases of the paranormal –ghosts, psychics, cannibals, carnival freaks, clones, the Bermuda triangle, and most notably: Aliens from outer space. I Want to Believe is no exception in theme. The FBI is working a case that would have been deemed an “X-File,” and the new kids in the Bureau can’t quite cut it with their brutal skepticism. They have a missing Agent on their hands, and a former-pedophile Catholic priest who is giving them psychic visions of where to dig up dismembered body parts. It’s all too much for these non-believers… enter Mulder and Scully.

The plot of I Want to Believe is a little bit diluted from the “trust no one” twists of the TV series. Scully, now a Doctor at a religious children’s hospital is very involved in the case of a young patient with a rare brain disease. This story feels drawn out and takes focus away from the murder mystery at hand. This added plot twist leaves the viewer longing for a moment when Mulder and Scully would reclaim their FBI status, guns in hand, flashing badges and boasting their all-powerful, all-knowing authority to criminals as they have done so many times before—but alas, no gun-strapping, no badge flashing, no ass-kicking return to their roots. Instead, Scully, always the straight man to Mulder’s sexy-and-eccentric attitude, kept pushing him to make the choice to step away from FBI and the case. We do see a little bit of unexpected action in a return by Walter Skinner, played by Mitch Pileggi, the duo’s former superior and current “big-wig” at the FBI. He actually totes a gun and gives a fresh breath of life to the end of the film.

The last important piece: the love story that had developed between Mulder and Scully. It had a slightly odd dynamic. They can lie in bed together, even make reference to the former child they conceived together (although through some Alien involvement), yet they still only refer to each other by last name. It did, however, seem right to play down the romance and not have it peak all over again as it did in the series, rather have it simply be. With one great kiss, it finally seemed that the tension between the two had relinquished its grip a little, and maybe in the future they can finally live happily ever after…until the truth, or “darkness” as Skully puts it, finds them again.

Though we may never know the truth about Mulder’s abducted sister, or how Scully is somehow qualified as a “medical doctor” to perform every obscure sugery or autopsy at any given time and place, I Want to Believe is a satisfying climax to this geek-chic series. I hope the fans can rest easy with the place Mulder and Scully forever take in their green-blooded hearts.

It’s movie night, and you’re looking for something to watch. Or perhaps you’re looking for new stuff to add to your Netflix queue. Jinni might be able to help you out. Like music radio site Pandora, Jinni employs people who analyze movies to create a movie genome — once you’ve told the site the kinds of things you like, Jinni will attempt to match your tastes and give you some recommendations. Each movie is tagged with around 50 aspects, which the site’s computer algorithm uses to compare Jinni’s movie genes to your requests.

Unlike Pandora, you can’t use Jinni to stream movies directly to your desktop. It will sync with your Netflix account, however, which could be very useful. Jinni’s not limited to major motion pictures. You can look up shorts, TV shows, online video and other content, too.

Jinni’s Web site explains that the company’s movie genome is split in two parts, one of which, Experience, reflects the mood and tone of the movie. The other is Story, which includes issues surrounding the plot, such as its structure and story elements, but also information that might be useful when considering a movie, such as whether or not there are reference to sex or violence. The company’s Web site said a wiki is in development that will let people discuss genome definitions and vote on genes.

Jinni displays its search results a little differently than a lot of other sites do. After you enter a query, Jinni brings back a series of pictures, each of which is a different size. Larger images are the suggestions that Jinni determines are closer to your search. Click through to the next box and you’ll soon arrive at some suggestions.

You can rate movies on Jinni on a scale of “Likely to see” to “Not for me.” The more you rate, the better the site’s algorithms are at figuring out what to suggest to you. At the top of the Jinni home page, you’ll see a Taste Types link — there are 12 types to choose from, and each offers a series of movies you can rank. That should get you started.

Jinni’s demo video will tell you a little more about the project:

Jinni Co-founder and President Yosi Glick said that there are plans to introduce premium accounts in the future as part of the company’s business model, but that you’ll still be able to keep a basic account for free. It may be sponsored by advertising, though, and the company plans to seek partnerships with other organizations, as well.

Jinni is in a private beta testing phase right now, which means that the company is in a process of ironing out bugs in the system before the site can launch officially. But if you want to give Jinni a try, you’re in luck! We’ve got some invitation codes for loyal fans of the TechStuff blog, so if you’d like to try it out for yourself, click here to sign up! We have a limited number of invites, so don’t wait too long. Give it a try, and let us know what you think!

Ah, NC-17. Possibly one of the dumber ratings out there. The concept is great! Tag movies, like this

Ah, NC-17. Possibly one of the dumber ratings out there. The concept is great! Tag movies, like this, that aren’t made for kids but are for an adult audience, with a rating that keeps kids away. In principle this is great! In execution, it’s been deeply flawed. Newspapers won’t advertise films with this rating, most reviewers won’t review them, and studios won’t generally allow them to be released. It’s to the credit of Fox that they allowed this rather nice little movie to be put out uncut (though one of the male leads isn’t… ha! Penis joke!).

The Dreamers concerns an American in Paris, played by Michael “Drop-pants Gorgeous” Pitt. He’s a student visiting there who falls in with a twin brother/sister pair who love movies as much as he does. The twins aren’t quite incestual, but they’re as close as anyone can get.

The movie is something of a love-note to cinema. You see clips from a lot of the greatest movies of the early days of film, and get to see the kids recreate several of the scenes for their own (occasionally erotic), amusement. The movie also expertly highlights Paris in the late 1960’s, giving you a real feel for the time and place and for what was going on.

Where the film fails… well, it doesn’t fail in any real big ways. I gave it four stars because it felt like something was missing, though I couldn’t put my finger on what (part of it is that the two male leads have an obvious simmering attraction to each other that doesn’t get acted upon in the movie. I understand it does in the book the film is based on). There wasn’t anything bad or wrong about the movie, but something did seem to be missing.

One thing that isn’t missing, though, is acres of bare flesh. If you’re one of those who doesn’t like to see close-ups of penises and vaginas, then this likely isn’t the film for you.

I’d actually recommend this movie for just about anyone over the age of 13 or so, provided you’re a parent who doesn’t mind your kids seeing a movie with lots of sexuality but no violence. If you’d prefer it the other way around, perhaps you need to rethink your priorities.

I haven’t seen many other Bertolucci films, so I can’t really compare them to this one. I know I liked it, though, and it’s worth owning on this DVD, with plenty of extras, including a commentary by Bertolucci himself. Buy and enjoy!

Leading online movie rental service Netflix has announced its integration with Facebook Connect, which seamlessly links a Netflix member’s account with their Facebook account. Facebook Connect will extend members’ movie ratings from the Netflix community to Facebook.

Netflix members decide if they want to use Facebook Connect and can turn it on or off at any time. Each time a Netflix member rates a movie, that one- to five-star rating will be posted on their Facebook profile and shared with the member’s friends if the Netflix member has enabled Facebook Connect.

Facebook social network invites any Website to implement recently introduced Facebook Connect, a service designed to make it easy for its users to combine their Facebook experience with participating Website, desktop application, or mobile device.

As businesses are using new ways to increase their sales. Pizza Hut is using Facebook Platform for selling food and others like Best Buy and Wal-Mart have started Facebook pages. A Rosetta social media study says 59% of 100 leading retailers have a fan page on Facebook.

To make its service more useful, Facebook has now released The Facebook Principles, which will guide the development of the service, and Statement of Rights and Responsibilities that make clear Facebook’s and users’ commitments related to the service.

As friends can make comments in response to ratings posts, this new feature aims to encourage an enriched movie-watching experience, enhanced by interaction and conversation among friends.

Movie rating posts on Facebook will also link back to the correlating movie page at Netflix, enabling Facebook users to learn more about a specific movie and allowing Netflix members to easily add the movie to their own Queues.

To link their Netflix and Facebook accounts, Netflix members will use the “Connect” button on the Netflix member site. Upon first connecting, each member will have the option of pushing all future movie ratings to their Facebook profile or to be presented with the option of publishing ratings to Facebook on a case-by-case basis.

Most movie ratings systems – star systems, or thumbs – are generally worthless. They don

Most movie ratings systems – star systems, or thumbs – are generally worthless. They don’t really give you enough information to go on at a glance. So I thought I would create an alternative to the star system. It’s based on the premise that what most people really want to know if the movie is enjoyable or not, and whether it is intelligent or idiotic (otherwise known as good good, good bad, bad good and bad bad). Thus, you have two axes, four quadrants, and, with four points per axis, 16 possible ratings, and an already much higher level of precision in movie rating. It looks like this:

Dark Knight, for example, you might rate as B:1 E:2, while Sex and the City would receive a B:-1 E:-2. There might be more “essential” dimensions that add more depth, but by including them you risk turning your shorthand guide into a mini-review. Movie reviewers, you are welcome.
