Mr. Burns loves to leave presents in the bathtub for Baby Daddy. He also leaves them in front of his litter box for Jack the Beagle.

This present awoke me from a deep, restful sleep somewhere around 4am while Baby Daddy is out of town. I can’t touch it for fear of toxoplasmiosis, so it has to stay in the tub and stink until Baby Daddy returns tomorrow. I’ve officially moved out of that bathroom and I’m considering moving out of that bedroom because the waft is triggering my gag reflex.

Later this afternoon, Mr. Burns decided to let himself into the hamper and I have accused him of plotting to leave presents in our dirty clothes. Luckily I thwarted his plans, but not before Mr. Burns got in a nice long swipe that left me with several inches of bloody scratches on my arm.

Normally, he is an adorable, loving kitty who is the best snuggler in the house.

10. Summer of 4 Ft. 2

Usually I groan a little inside when I see a Lisa-centric episode come on, but the seventh season finale is definitely the best they have done with Lisa’s stories. As she explores who she is and the reason for her unpopularity, she makes friends at the lake and begins to realize that maybe its not about how you dress yourself up but more about how confidant you are in yourself. And even though it is Lisa’s story, Homer is also in top-notch comedic form, especially with his illegal fireworks.

9. Who Shot Mr. Burns? (part 1)

The Simpsons’ Take on the famous Dallas season ending cliffhanger saw Mr. Burns in the J.R. role with all of the town members as suspects in the shooting. This episode sets up a wonderful atmosphere of foreboding with many classic moments as each of the characters explores their dark sides. The first part of the only two-part episodes in Simpsons history left us guessing all summer, and even now that we know, the episode is still one of the best there is.

8. Homer Vs. The 18th Amendment

Homer as the beer baron, Rex Banner, Moe’s pet shop, this episode has tons of great gags. Homer fighting against prohibition provides some great entertainment, including one of The Simpsons’ most heavily quoted lines; “To Alcohol! The cause of, and solution to, all of life’s problems.”

7. Homer’s Barbershop Quartet

Ah, the B Sharps. This hilarious look into Homer’s past as a barbershop superstar is one of the best episodes the show has come up with for sure. Gearge Harrison has a great cameo, back when cameos actually meant something and flowed naturally with the story, unlike now when they are just there to showcase whatever celebrity needs attention at the moment.
This episode is full of great moments from beginning to end, and let’s face it; “Baby on Board” is catchy.

6. Homer at the Bat

Homer finally gains respect at the slugger on the power plant’s softball team, until Daryl Strawberry comes along. This episode really had it all; funny guest star cameos, great gags, movie parodies, and of course that incredibly catchy theme song during the end credits. This was one of the Simpsons’ best as it came into its prime.

5. Rosebud

The Simpsons’ take on Citizen Kane has Mr. Burns pining away for his long-lost teddy bear Bobo, which falls in the arms of Maggie Simpson. Now Homer must decide between rewards and riches and the happiness of his daughter. Rosebud is a great example of when the show’s storytelling and writing was the best in the business. And this one can tug at the heart-strings as well.

4. Cape Feare

Sideshow Bob episodes were like that special dessert when you were a kid that you were only allowed to have every once in a while but couldn’t wait until the next time. And Cape Feare was the best of the lot. Cape Feare was able to set up a ton of laughs in a great brooding atmosphere. And who could forget such gags as the “Hello Mr. Thompson” bit and Homer’s hockey mask and chain saw.

And the rakes. Ahhhhhh, the rakes.

3. Flaming Moe’s

What Flaming Moe’s does is it sets up a tone and atmosphere in the episode which is almost unique. Moe’s tavern has suddenly become the hip place to be, with Aerosmith playing almost every night and resembling the lifestyle of Cheers. A solid episode from beginning to end, one of the best the Simpsons has to offer.

2. Marge vs. The Monorail

Sometimes the Simpsons manages to reach heights of pure comedic genius, as the did with the story of how Springfield tried to rejuvenate their city with a monorail doomed for disaster. Everything that makes The Simpsons great is present in this episode, hilarious gags, great storytelling, guest stars (Nimoy and Hartman), satire, a comical musical number, and so on. One of the greatest 30 minutes television has to offer.

1. Last Exit to Springfield

When Homer leads a strike at the power plant in order to win a dental plan, he manages to fool Mr. Burns into believing he is one of the greatest minds he’s ever met. We, of course, no different. Even Matt Groening himself has acknowledged Last Exit to Springfield as the best Simpsons episode. It has been called “flawless” and “the funniest half-hour in TV history” and is even studied in sociology classes at Berkeley. This is the episode which proves just ho great The Simpsons truly is.

Today’s a good day. The free movie streaming library Voddler opens up and releases 500, 000 new user accounts. Sorry Lunki, no need for you to feel exclusive anymore.

Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers release a brand-new single, and that’s about time.

But that’s not all; today’s also the World Animation Day. All over the world people are celebrating, and we are doing our part here at the office by having a battle of the Simpsons Monopoly game. Johnny the Intern was defeated after two rounds; don’t ask me to explain how that’s even possible, because I can’t.

Lunki, Janne the Director and me are still power struggling to become Mr. Burns wealthy, while Johnny the Intern is baking a cake; which we of course will not eat, because if you have had his coffee, you never dare to “go pastry”.

So I know I have posted more of this guys images here before but I can’t find them. Anyhoo his Jessica Rabbit was sexy and his Homer was disconcerting. But Mr Burns is down right scary!! This picture gave me a chill when I opened it today.

The ethics lectures of Harvard’s Michael J. Sandel are getting high quality video presentation and dissemination:

it is the first time that public broadcasters can remember a regular college course’s being presented on television. What’s more, it is also a highly produced multimedia event, with high-definition video, interactive Webcasts, podcasts, a new book and a speaking tour.

“We looked at what other universities had done and realized that they didn’t have the full classroom experience,” said Mr. Sandel

Watching a video that looks as if it were made with a convenience store security camera, as most Internet courses do, without the slides, syllabus and other materials available to actual students, dilutes the experience, Mr. Sandel said.

So, for “Justice,” Harvard set up extra lights and microphones in Sanders Theater, a stately, stadium-style hall. The classes were recorded in high-definition with three cameras to catch the student exchanges that are an essential part of the classroom experience.

The article also discusses the relationship between Dr. Sandel and The Simpsons’ Mr. Burns.  And then, finally, there’s this fun tidbit about the challenge of teaching Rawls’s challenge to the idea of merit to Harvard students:

In class, affirmative action arouses the strongest feelings, Mr. Sandel said, because students, who have worked very hard to reach Harvard, believe their own merit is being rewarded. They are disquieted, he said, by the philosopher John Rawls’s idea that many of their advantages have nothing to do with merit: American citizenship, fortunate family circumstances, a society that values what they are good at, whether it is telling jokes or having a great jump shot.

He tells the class that many psychologists think that birth order makes a lot of difference in one’s work ethic and degree of striving, and then asks: “How many here are first in birth order?” There are gasps and laughter. About 80 percent in the auditorium raise their hands. “Is it your doing that you are first in birth order?,” he continues.

wie passt denn nun das alles zusammen? ich beginne mit dem vergangenen tag: mit dem fahrrad unterwegs richtung u-asta. sattel wackelt. ignorieren, wie immer. plötzlich kracht während der fahrt der sattel weg. top. mit stehen weiter gefahren. im u-asta lustige sitzung gehalten. die wahrscheinlich kürzeste fsk meines lebens. zurück gefahren. geschlafen. nächster morgen: auf ins radgeschäft! diagnose (alt bekannt): wirf dein fahrrad weg! alles klar. semester zu ende, fahrrad am arsch. was auch sonst. altes restfahrrad in den eingang des u-asta geschoben. wer macht dort müll? ich. darf ich dann ja auch bald selbst wegräumen. zur ub2 gegangen, buch ausgeliehen. zum maikäfer gegangen, weil chris nach dvds schauen wollte. auf dem wort dorthin haben wir dieses tolle poster entdeckt:

eigentlich finde ich ja, dass chris immer viel zu lange braucht, um nach dvds und cds zu gucken. gut war aber, dass er sich bereit erklärt hat, mir batman begins zu schenken batman!!!! gut wars. schauen wir heute abend.

dann zu fuß zurück nach hause. ohne fahrrad. mit fahrradschloß. das wertvollste habe ich natürlich behalten.

Mein ganz klar liebstes CDU-Plakat-Mashup: Angela Merkel neben Charles Montgomery „Monty“ Burns. Man kann fast nicht unterscheiden, wer wer ist, oder?
