Not going to lie, I have no idea who those guys were at the end of this and why they are putting Everyman in as Green Arrow again or what not. Was it even Everyman? We never saw any proof of that. This storyline is already annoying and we are only one issue in. The art in this issue was just awful. Why can’t this book get good art? Both Norton and Guedes are better artists then this crap. This book has just gone down hill.

Outsiders (Volume 4) #24
Written by Peter Tomasi
Art by Fernando Pasarin

The penultimate issue of Tomasi’s run may be the strongest issue of his run yet. That could be due to the strength of the Blackest Night concept or because Tomasi get the character of Terra – the evil girl who infiltrated the Teen Titans and betrayed them. She was not duped or drugged by Deathstroke – she was a bad person. It’s pure and simple. I love that Krul and Tomasi are acknowledging this as for a while DC seem to be heading in the direction of ignoring the intent of Marv Wolfman when he created her and pretending that she was this sweet girl who got corrupted. I love how Black Lantern Terra is just as manipulative as she was in life. She acts all sweet and kind to her brother even with that horrible zombie look – and he believes her! It was awesome. You know she is setting a trap for the Outsiders. It was great to see Katana and Halo’s close friendship acknowledged (Although she calls her Violet again ahh!) and Katana’s family who I hadn’t even predicted would show up as black lanterns.

5. Remove the Car Bomb-Transporter 2 I actually forgot why I even decided to see Transporter 2. Nev

5. Remove the Car Bomb-Transporter 2

I actually forgot why I even decided to see Transporter 2. Never did see the first one, the second didn’t look great and I never saw the third either. However, I did wind up seeing the film and it’s one that has disbelief written all over it. One scene in particular, however, left me completely speechless at how bluntly unrealistic it was. If you’ve seen the film, then you know that Statham’s car winds up having a bomb under it so what does he do? He jumps off a ramp causing his car to spin around, the bottom of the car barely scrapes a crane hook that perfectly removes the bomb without issue and he still lands with little to no problem. Normally I’d go into more detail, but I think watching the scene yourself should put it into perspective.

4. Refrigerator vs. Nuke-Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

The Indiana Jones films have always been a favorite of mine. Though Temple of Doom was always my childhood favorite, the other two (of the original trilogy) have since grown on me and I actually enjoy Last Crusade the most. So it goes without saying I was quite curious as to how good Kingdom of the Crystal Skull would be. Unfortunately, it does not hold a flag to its predecessors and there’s one scene in particular that I whispered to myself “I do believe that this is the most unrealistic scene ever.” Towards the beginning, Jones finds out that he’s in an area about to be nuked so what does he do? He hides in a refrigerator. And since this is shortly into the film with our hero’s life at stake he of course manages to survive with the fridge conveniently being the only object that gets blasted away and lands in tact.

3. Needle vs. Bullet to the Skin-Far Cry

Alright, just so everyone knows, I actually how not seen this film and I never intend to. I shelled money out for an Uwe Boll film once before and I will never do so again. But I saw a review for this film which went through the entire film and one part that stood out in an idiotic way was towards the beginning when the super soldiers are tested. During this scene, we find that the mutated skin can essentially bounce bullets back like rubber but after things go out of control they manage to suppress it with a needle to the skin. That’s right, the skin is impervious to bullets yet needles go in without an issue. Figure that out on your own.

2. Spin Back Time-Superman

I’m going to shamelessly admit that I haven’t seen any of the original Superman films. In fact, other than the most recent film, Superman Returns, all I’ve seen of Superman at all are gameplay videos of Superman on the N64 and him in the TV show Justice League. So it should go without saying I know about this scene from someone who did a video on the film and the turned out to be one by Doug Walker aka the Nostalgia Critic. The video was a Top 11 countdown of the dumbest Superman moments and at number one was when Superman turns the world back to reverse time. Apparently causing the Earth’s rotation to reverse would be the key to spinning back time. I guess I’d better build a really fast airplane to do this and bring me back to my high school days.

1. Every Scene-Batman & Robin

Even though this list is supposed to be for single scenes from a single film, Joel Schumacher’s hilariously bad sequel to Batman Forever (which he also directed) has so many impossible scenes packed in together that I really can’t think of any other film that hits quite as low. I won’t state every one of the scenes but here’s just a few of them: Schwarzenegger surviving water that’s 50 degrees below zero, his freeze gun landing on top of a curved statue perfectly like a magnet, Batgirl jumping off her motorcycle onto Robin’s…swamp-like machine for a few seconds to jump back on her bike which has managed to keep up with the Batmobile and Robin without falling over, the bathooks always managing to hit/grab surfaces strong enough to pull our heroes forward, Batman and Robin air surfing using doors as boards while casually heading back down to the ground, etc. If a single movie can actually top the level of implausibility here, then I think we’re in trouble.

Pasarin is such a good artist why doesn’t DC ever use him as a regular artist? Although his Creeper is a little more normal looking then the Creeper usually is. But at the same time Tomasi writes him as more “normal” then he usually does too. It was great to see Katana and Halo’s relationship acknowledged, even if it is annoying that they keep calling Halo Violet instead of Gabrielle. This is going to be Tomasi’s last arc on this book before Didio takes over. I guess we shall see if Tomasi’s run is considered a sucessful one or not.

Cnn.com’s current lead story – the most important story in the world to CNN: Sound famil

Cnn.com’s current lead story – the most important story in the world to CNN:

Sound familiar? It should. It’s similar to the (relatively) well known backstory of Batman villain Mr. Freeze: His wife is deathly ill, he places her in a suspended animation, but when one day he falls into the liquid, he turns into the villain. Here’s a picture from the movie Batman and Robin:

Of course, that head you see there is the current California governor.

On the other hand, if Chris Nolan or any of his assistants is reading this, please do not take this as an opportunity to re-imagine Freeze. The whole thing is too ridiculous for me.

We get sick and we die. It happens. Sometimes too early. We don’t need to cheat death. In fact, I’m as upset about Gupta’s cheating death as the ridiculous top story.

Chers amis, Those of you who have been following my misadventures so patiently and courteously will

Chers amis,

Those of you who have been following my misadventures so patiently and courteously will surely have recognized the bizarre, time-traveling nature of my retelling of them. Well, I must ask you once again to buckle up and get ready for another trip back into time, back before I sacrificed any dignity I may once have had at Oktoberfest. Why, you ask? Why, because there are still many tales to be told of our trip down to Dublin, you boob!

After a quick Belfastian breakfast, we took a bus ride down to Dublin. We would have taken the train, but Doug the Hug, through some typically masterful research, had caught wind of a bridge collapse between Dublin and Belfast, making the train ride a certain impossibility. Thankfully, the bus ride wasn’t all that painful, though, and within a few hours we were stepping outside into the crisp Dublin air.

Mere moments after disembarking, I noticed G-Reg’s jaw drop. He pointed across the bus station, and wouldn’t you know it, the ladies who I had mistakenly misled through the streets of Belfast were all there preparing to board a bus to Cork. Finally, I could clear my conscience with a personal apology! As I approached, I was nervous that they might hurl heavy objects and/or hurtful verbal abuse at me on sight, but instead they waved warmly and were quite cordial about the whole ordeal. Nice lasses, those Corkians.

We soon took off from the bus station and wandered in the direction of our hostel, the Oliver St. John Gogarty’s. Doug the Hug had mentioned that it was the only hostel in Dublin that actually had its own bar, so we were quite enthusiastic about getting there.

Unfortunately, our check-in was far from warm and fuzzy. The receptionist, though attractive, had a certain iciness in her tone that even Mr. Freeze, Batman’s arch-nemesis, would have tipped his cap to. Or perhaps he would tip the strange icy barbute covering the top of his ice suit. Though I can’t see how he would actually manage to remove it to actually perform a cap tip. Maybe he would just retract it and then put it right back up as a gesture of apprecia… never mind. This lady was just a total bitch, okay?

We headed up the stairs and entered our room. One of the beds was already claimed, as evidenced by a giant blue rolling bag sitting next to it with a tag that said “Harold”. Our spirits dropped even further when, after a quick iPhone internet consultation, we found that the chances of “Harold” being a female were very, very slim.

Soon our bellies began to rumble in unison, so we headed across the street to a Mongolian Barbecue place. Yes, you may think it quite silly to go to a Mongolian BBQ place in Ireland, but we remembered the delicious Irish burrito of a few days before and assumed the Irish had mastered all forms of foreign cooking. The Mongolian place, though pricey, did not disappoint, and G-Reg and the Hug filled their bowls three separate times to make sure they were getting their money’s worth.

We took it easy that night, partially to recover from our very active few nights in Belfast, but also because we knew the next day would be filled with cultural events that were very alcohol-oriented; we planned on going to both the Jameson Distillery and the Guinness Brewery. And, by golly, we did.

The next morning we decided to use a trip to St. Patrick’s cathedral as a little prelude to our tours of the two alcoholic refineries. Though the outside of the cathedral was pretty cool, I cannot tell you much about the inside. We walked in and found that there was a 5 Euro fee to actually amble around in there. Instead, we awkwardly stretched our necks over the entry ropes to take in as much as we could, looked at each other, nodded as if to say, “Yeah, that was as good as any 5 Euro tour,” and left.

From there, we headed to the Jameson Distillery. Personally, I’m not the biggest fan of whisky, but I was excited to go through the factory and see how it’s made. Also, for those of you wondering why I keep spelling “whisky” without the “E”, it is because that’s the way it’s spelled in Ireland, apparently. Maybe someone was just bullshitting me so I look like an idiot, but I’m sticking with it.

We had heard rumors that there was a taste test between Jameson whisky and Jack Daniel’s somewhere on the tour. These rumors were confirmed when we sat down and our tour guide produced scrolls that allowed for a taste test, but sadly there were only eight for the entire tour group. Handing them out to the crowd, she moseyed over to our group and handed the scroll to none other than Wild Bill, who then gave his name as “Wilhelm Kempski”.

Though the tour of the distillery was actually rather unmemorable (it was more of a museum because they no longer actually produced whisky there), the taste test at the end was fun to watch. We had scoffed a bit earlier at a few passages from a gigantic book that reviewed the different types of whiskies in the world using some extraordinarily silly vocabulary. For example, Jack Daniel’s was described as “chewy”. Let us just say that Wilhelm Kempski did not hesitate in borrowing that term to make himself seem like a true whisky connoisseur.

After finishing up at the Distillery, we lunched and headed for the true highlight of the day: the Guinness Brewery. Virtually every person we passed on our way there was wearing some sort of Guinness attire; clearly we were not the only ones with the idea of visiting on this fine Dublinian day.

Once inside, we had the distinct pleasure of running into two of Wild Bill’s Theta Delt buddies from Stanford. They were two classy gentlemen indeed, and we explored the rest of the Brewery’s wonders with them.

Perhaps the best part of the Brewery was the very top, called the Gravity Bar. It was a giant bar serving up free Guinness (though you were limited to one – weak) as well as boasting a giant, panoramic view of Dublin. We each claimed our free pint of Guinness and posed suggestively for the camera together.

Anyway, we prepared to leave the Guinness factory but were soon seduced by the allure of the Guinness gift shop. There, I picked up a pretty excellent looking Guinness tie and some fancy Guinness socks, as well as a few gifts for friends back home (no, $chwime, not you). We then made a communal decision to go to a pub crawl later that night. It would prove to be one of the more bizarre crawls we’d been on on the trip. But I shall tell you of this soon, my friends! I am tired and must hit the hay for now.

Warm regards,
Jacques

I became a fan of Seth Fisher’s work on Vertigo Pop! Tokyo, and was excited when heard he would be tackling Batman. His artwork had some kind of manga sensibility, but it didn’t just imitate the traits normally associated with that style. The “Snow” story-arc showed that Fisher’s cartoony pencilling and the noir-infused world of Batman need not be mutually exclusive. Sadly, it would prove to be his sole Gotham City foray; his tragic and untimely death cut down an artist that was only just coming into his prime and who, I’m convinced, would have become one of the great comic artists of the decade. Still, at least we still have the work he did complete; for that, at least, we can be thankful.

Outsiders (Volume 4) #22
Written by Peter Tomasi
Art by Fernando Pasarin

Pasarin’s art is much better then Garbett’s for this book. And I have to say I am enjoying this rounding up the Gotham villains arc so far. It is much simpler then the last arc and less confusing. Not to mention that this issue contained the best use of Clayface I have EVER read in a comic. Clayface is usually used as a a throw away character disguised as someone else or a background character, but this issue shows how dangerous and powerful he can be. Especially when he shows up and absorbs a whole family into his body so they can mine him! Kudos to Tomasi for making great use of a character and showing me his worth.

Outsiders (Volume 4) #21
Written by Peter Tomasi
Art by Fernando Pasarin

I am not sure why Alfred is acting the way he is in this issue. What situation in Gotham is he referring to? Possibly something that happens in Batman and Robin #3 which hasn’t come out yet? I don’t know. Anyways, this was a definite improvement over the last arc. I like the idea of the Outsiders splitting up to find the villains who have left Gotham and Pasarin’s art is wonderful! Is he the new regular artist? I sure hope so. I like him a lot better then Garbett. It is interesting to learn that the new Black Mask implanted chips into the heads of the villains so he could kill them if they upset him. In this issue, Mr. Freeze is captured by Black Lightning and Owlman and his chip is removed. I look forward to the confrontations with Killer Croc and Clayface.

Its the Governator’s (Arnold Schwarzeneggar) B-day today! Born July 30, 1947.

Terminator (1984)

Schwarzenegger is an Austrian American bodybuilder, actor, businessman, and politician, currently serving as the 38th Governor of the state of California.

Schwarzenegger began weight-training at fifteen. He was awarded the title of Mr. Universe at age 22 and went on to win the Mr. Olympia contest a total of seven times. Schwarzenegger has remained a prominent face in the bodybuilding sport long after his retirement, and has written several books and numerous articles on the sport.

Schwarzenegger gained worldwide fame as a Hollywood action film icon, noted for his lead role in such films as Conan the Barbarian and The Terminator. He was nicknamed the “Austrian Oak” and the “Styrian Oak” in his bodybuilding days, “Arnold Strong” and “Arnie” during his acting career, and more recently the “Governator” (a portmanteau of Governor and the Terminator, one of his film roles).

Conan the Barbarian (1982)

Schwarzenegger’s breakthrough film was the sword-and-sorcery epic Conan the Barbarian in 1982, which was a box-office hit. This was followed by a sequel, Conan the Destroyer in 1984, although its box-office performance was disappointing. In 1983, Schwarzenegger starred in the promotional video “Carnival in Rio”.

In 1984, he made the first of three appearances as the titular character and what some would say was the signature role in his acting career in director James Cameron’s science-fiction thriller film The Terminator. Following The Terminator, Schwarzenegger made Red Sonja in 1985, which “sank without a trace.”

During the 1980s, audiences had a large appetite for action films, with both Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone becoming international stars. Schwarzenegger’s roles reflected his droll, often self-deprecating sense of humor (including sometimes famously bad puns), separating his roles from more serious action hero fare. His alternative-universe comedy/thriller Last Action Hero featured a poster of the movie Terminator 2: Judgment Day which, in the fictional alternate universe, had Sylvester Stallone as its star.

Predator (1987)

Following his arrival as a Hollywood superstar, he made a number of successful films: Commando (1985), Raw Deal (1986), The Running Man (1987), and Red Heat (1988). In Predator (1987), another successful film, Schwarzenegger led a cast which included future Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura (Ventura also appeared in The Running Man and Batman & Robin with Schwarzenegger) and future Kentucky Gubernatorial candidate Sonny Landham.

Twins (1988), a comedy with Danny DeVito, was a change of pace, and also proved successful. Total Recall (1990) netted Schwarzenegger $10 million and 15% of the gross, and was a widely praised, science-fiction script directed by Paul Verhoeven, based on the Philip K. Dick short story, “We Can Remember It for You Wholesale”. Kindergarten Cop (1990) reunited him with director Ivan Reitman, who directed him in Twins.

Schwarzenegger had a brief foray into directing, first with a 1990 episode of the TV series Tales from the Crypt, entitled “The Switch,” and then with the 1992 telemovie Christmas in Connecticut. He has not directed since.

Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991)

Schwarzenegger’s commercial high-water mark was his return as the title character in 1991’s Terminator 2: Judgment Day, which was the highest-grossing film of 1991. In 1993, the National Association of Theatre Owners named him the “International Star of the Decade.” His next film project, the 1993 self-aware action comedy spoof Last Action Hero was released opposite Jurassic Park, with the box office suffering accordingly. His next film, the action comedy True Lies (1994) was a highly popular send-up of spy films, and saw Schwarzenegger, reunited with The Terminator director James Cameron, appearing opposite Jamie Lee Curtis.

Shortly thereafter came the comedy Junior (1994), the last of his three collaborations with Ivan Reitman and again co-starring Danny DeVito. This film brought Schwarzenegger his second Golden Globe nomination, this time for Best Actor – Musical or Comedy. It was followed by the action thriller Eraser (1996) and the comic book-based Batman & Robin (1997), where he played the villain Mr. Freeze. This was his final film before taking time to recuperate from a back injury. Following the critical failure of Batman & Robin, Schwarzenegger’s film career and box office prominence went into decline.

Several film projects were announced with Schwarzenegger attached to star, including the remake of Planet of the Apes, a new film version of I Am Legend, and a World War II film scripted by Quentin Tarantino that would have seen Schwarzenegger play an Austrian for the third time (after Junior and Kindergarten Cop).

Total Recall (1990)

Instead, he returned after a hiatus with the supernatural thriller End of Days (1999), later followed by the action films The 6th Day (2000) and Collateral Damage (2002) all of which failed to do well at the box office. In 2003, he made his third appearance as the title character in Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, which went on to earn over $150 million domestically.

In tribute to Schwarzenegger in 2002, Forum Stadtpark, a local cultural association, proposed plans to build a 25-meter (82-foot) tall Terminator statue in a park in central Graz. Schwarzenegger reportedly said he was flattered, but thought the money would be better spent on social projects and the Special Olympics.

His latest film appearances included a 3-second cameo appearance in The Rundown (AKA, Welcome to the Jungle) with The Rock, and the 2004 remake of Around the World in 80 Days, where he appeared onscreen with action star Jackie Chan for the first time.

Schwarzenegger voiced Baron von Steuben in Episode 24 (“Valley Forge”) of Liberty’s Kids. In 2005 he appeared as himself in the film The Kid & I.

Time is fluid. I am suffering from Jet Lag of international time zones, while sitting still in a time and space of a lost and found identity

Every night the daemons rise and smell the fear of your broken heart.Every day the angels wake and taste your wounded pride. The cycle cycles

The music ends abruptly to the noise of the waves across. Of chilled air the waters breath to the sound of a constant need for comfort & aid

The children must play in their hallways of stunts. The loud burst on the wall. The spinning thump of the board. The laugh and the words remain

Black to the left of me, black to the right. White where black sound be. A silver of hope lights up my thoughts in a darkness blossomed anew

A tricky thought a yawn has brought. Of broken words over stupid words. Of sorrowed nights amidst joyous times. To push away by pulling away

This peace I find.Hidden in your sight. So clearly visible to those who see.Yet I remain. So plain you see.Always speaking yet never heard U C

I fail to see what I must see.I fail to hear what I must hear.I fail to listen while you listen. We fail to comprehend and thus fail to love.

Bored of all that once was fresh.Tired now and yet refreshed.Peace and Love I seek.Tension and War my only find.To search again another day.

No commentary, just nostalgia inspired by recent events when people mention moonwalks. I’m not being snarky or superior, at my brothers birthday last weekend he mentioned that Frosty Freeze had died which sparked an interest in this type of post. So it goes…..
