So this is the point at which I should probably report on the Pre-Fall RTW collections that were shown in the various fashion capitols over the past few weeks.
Well – whatever.
They were so boring I couldn’t even be bothered to sigh about them.

Instead, I’m going to tell you about the most exciting thing going on right now in our little known universe.
No; it’s not the Hadron Collider, 570 ft beneath the Franco-Swiss border, going about the tricky business of figuring out how we all got here in the first place, and it’s not the delicate negotiations taking place at the Climate Change summit in Copenhagen; nor is it the start of the new season of ‘Keeping up with the Kardashians’ that just aired on US TV on Sunday night.
It’s not any of those inconsequential creations or events (Pre-Fall collections included.) It’s a little Lady called Gaga.

Whatever you think about Lady Gaga, you can’t deny that she has had the biggest impact on the worlds of art, fashion, music and entertainment in the last 365 days. Whether you love her, hate her, don’t get her, don’t have an opinion either way, don’t even know what the hell I’m going on about – however you feel and whatever your opinions are, energy, persistence, and undeniable presence in 2009.

Obviously, not everyone’s a fan:
Antonio Berardi recently refused to work with her on a collection of clothing– because he cited her music as being ‘meaningless’ and couldn’t see ‘what impact [it would] have in 20 years to come.’ I like Antonio – I think he is one of the most talented, exciting and sophisticated designers working today, but it disappointed me no end to read that this was his opinion of someone who I consider to be a true fashion phenomenon.

3 years ago, Lady Gaga was Stefani Joanna Germanotta – singing and playing piano in dive bars like ‘The Bitter End’ with her own 3-piece soft rock band. Watching a YouTube clip of her and the rest of the guys doing a cover of Led Zeppelin’s ‘D’yer Maker’ and – (after getting over the initial shock of her general appearance: no leotard, no crazy sunglasses, no crystals, no lace, no paper mache-based head gear or sparkler-shooting brassiere; just black leggings, top, and long dark brown hair falling over her face,) I listened and enjoyed a really heart-felt, energized rendition of a much-loved rock classic.

She has a strong, melodic, catchy voice, and is clearly a very talented and accomplished song writer. That’s a given. But you have to admit – even if you’re an absolutely head-over-heels-in-love-starstruck-breathless-at-the-thought-of-her fan – this girl with a big voice and a meagre back-up band is just One of Many. You could be watching anyone play the piano and pour their heart out to a Led Zep track – hundreds of girls doing exactly the same thing right now.

Well, this particular girl Made It.
But how? How on earth did someone like her, with her fantastic yet somewhat controversial product slip through the net, against all the obstacles? I guess you could put it down to sheer determination and hard work, but it was also a combination of luck, fate, faith – whatever you want to call it. Because, assuming the ‘Gaga’ business model did not yet exist, if Stefani G went up to the boss of Interscope records today she would be laughed out of the office after proposing her plans for Pop-World Domination: An aggressive plan of attack that included faking a bloody death on stage at the MTV VMA’s, songs about dangerous and deeply disturbed love affairs with accompanying music videos set in futuristic russian bathhouses, and a performance on Ellen DeGeneres in a Frankenstein-style shoulder-padded jacket and crystal encrusted eye sockets. Not to mention meeting the Queen of England whilst wearing a red latex dress with a 20ft train. Forget about it! First of all, she would have been stopped at reception and told to put some clothes on before she even announced who she was and what her business was turning up there without an appointment.

So how did she persuade people that someone like her should exist and be given the chance to entertain and become the Lady that she is today? Well, it sure as hell didn’t happen over night. She crawled on her belly through crummy bars filled with bored NYU students and private parties in L.A. restaurants; she slithered into and out of DIY bejeweled underwear and ripped stockings; never turned down a gig; never stopped working, writing, singing, dancing…And then finally someone heard her sing in the right place, at the right time because she’d made damn sure that she was there when they were. Then she harnessed the power of the Internet and social networking sites, Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, the lot, and made appearances EVERYWHERE in the most eye-catching and sometimes unbelievable outfits; making sure that both her and her music got maximum exposure. Literally, I don’t think this girl said ‘no’ to anyone or anything. If speaking to a particular person or performing at a particular event provided another opportunity for people to hear the music, see the fashion, here the story, it was worth doing. Her rise has not been accidental – it was calculated, carefully created, thrown out there and attacked through every communicative medium in existence, until you couldn’t ignore her even if you wanted to. Now she’s wearing head-to-toe Alexander McQueen in her new music video; gracing the cover of every magazine that’s still worth printing; appearing on Saturdaynightlive in skits with Madonna, and performing on a sell-out Monster Ball Tour.

If you are disagreeing with everything that I’m saying you’re probably about to stop reading and fob this off as another fanatical ‘dear Gaga from afar’ love letter. But before you do, just understand this:
The very fact that Lady Gaga has got to where she is today should put the faith of all the gods combined back into you that we’re not living in a society where the whole of pop culture is being PG-rated and spoonfed to us via X-factor, American idol, The Hills, The City, and all of that other teen-idol-perfectly-pink-botox-filled-vomit-inducing bull-Ish.
Lady Gaga describes herself as being a ‘liberator’; and that she most certainly is. She couldn’t put it more perfectly. Her music tells you it’s ok to dance in the dark; to do your hair, gloss your eyes, touch yourself till you’re alright, and to be obsessively opposed to the typical.
She liberates all of us – fans or haters – from all of the humdrum, run of the mill, ordinary, mass-market forms of ‘entertainment’ that we are supposed to buy, consume, and then enjoy.

And on that note – when Gaga performed on The X-factor in the UK, in front of the mastermind of tacktastic popculture – Mr Simon Cowell, it only demonstrated further what a dramatic contrast she is to all of the aforementioned entertainment options, of which Mr Cowell is responsible for some of the very worst. Lady Gaga went on that show well aware of what it was and what it represents, and she stuck two gloriously glamorous fingers up to the whole thing. Has there ever been a more perfect, grotesque, yet contradictory union in pop culture history?The top contestants and winners from the X-Factor will achieve fame – but begrudgingly. It’s almost as if they are ‘celebrated’ for none other reason than that the general public doesn’t have a better choice. Well now they do. Instead of choosing the grey, dreary, auto-tuned teenagers that come rolling off the SyCo production line every 6 months or so, they can choose Gaga.
I really hope that the Psycho-Syco era is coming to an end, and the King of light entertainment will be overthrown by the Queen of all things Magic, Monstrous and Magnificent.

Lady Gaga is fairly marvelous. I think we can all agree on this in some facet or another. Whether or not you actually enjoy her is another discussion altogether, but let’s face it, the girl is innovative, to say the least. She changed outfits three times at the 2009 VMA awards and that was after “bleeding” profusely onstage while being strung up at the end of her live performance. Anyway, this here orchestral mash-up aroused my attention when I found out it was a rendition of Gaga’s Love Game. I’ve been a big fan of orchestral cover songs for awhile now, first falling in love with them with The String Quartet’s Tribute to Incubus 1 & 2. This, however, is quite fun, as well. Not as complex as most Incubus tunes (not nearly) but still fun to hear. Hit the link!

GaGa tells the world to lay off of Kanye after MTV VMA Taylor Swift interruption

Lady GaGa is one loyal tourmate.

The dust hasn’t quite settled on Kanye West’s outburst at the VMAs earlier this month, with his soon-to-be tourmate Lady GaGa offering a few thoughts on the ordeal. Gaga is fresh from recording new material and shooting this strange teaser for the Fame Kills tour.

She spoke to MTV about West, saying: “I would say he’s a good guy and everybody makes mistakes, and he feels so fucking bad. He really does. I think that everyone can get so caught up in gossip and stuff. If you listen to the radio right now, with the exception of myself, really, and Taylor Swift, Kanye is responsible for everything we’re listening to.”

Gaga has also spoken about the lavish Fame Kills shows, saying that their performances will be integrated. “The storyline is that Kanye is on one end of the stage and I’m on the other, and the whole show, we are trying to get to where each other is,” she said. “I want something that he has, which is the fame, and he wants something that I have, which is home, and my humble beginnings. So we battle each other throughout the entire performance to steal each other’s spaces. So I’m essentially on a quest to kill Kanye West to steal his fame.”

So what was GaGa’s reaction when she saw Kanye’s “I’ma let you finish” moment?

“It was, ‘Oh, jeez,” GaGa recalls.

Wow. Coming from a woman who’s caused no small number of, “Oh, jeez” reactions herself, that’s saying something.

The entire world had the privilege of watching Kanye’s reputation showdown on MTV Video Music Awards 2009. Kanye West abruptly stole the microphone from country singer, Taylor Swift, during her acceptance speech for Best Female Video. He had to tell the world there and then that Beyonce was more deserving of that award for her work on “Single Ladies”.

Apparently, Kanye’s thoughts labored like a 9-month old foetus who just broke Mummy’s water and had to come out a.s.a.p. Ouch! When it comes to opinions, Kanye is a master of “Keeping It Real” but remains a young Skywalker when it comes to “Keeping It In”.

While Kanye may have previously been crowned “Hottest MC In The Game” by MTV, the aftermath of this showdown was the littering of his name on all social networking sites, crowning him as “The Douchebag”. This was reinforced with more backlash from 50 Cent, Pink, Tim McGraw and many more.

A few radio stations and also Entrepreneur/Famewhore Donald Trump hopped on the bangwagon and may have gone overboard when they decided to boycott Kanye. Kanye even had President Obama calling him a jackass.

It seems that we live in a world where brutal honesty takes precedence over diplomacy. While I do not condone pretentiousness, Ican’t help but admit that no one is ever so real.

Kanye seems to be a serial villain when it comes to dealing with the media. In the past, he had been charged for assaulting and throwing tantrums at paparazzis. Though I may not understand why Kanye West is so angsty, especially since he has Amber Rose as arm candy, it proves to be high time for anger management classes for him.

To make amends, Kanye expressed his apology in several avenues such as Tonight’s Show With Jay Leno and on his blog. He also called Taylor Swift to apologize to her personally.

It is without doubt that Kanye is one of the brightest stars in the hiphop industry today. He started out as a record producer under Jay Z’s wing and began to flourish as a mainstream conscious rapper shortly after Jay Z announced his “retirement” from his rap career. While he may not be getting popularity hits, he continues to produce good music.

To err is human, to forgive is divine. While we may not be made for divinity, he’s lucky that we have bigger problems and short attention spans. Realness is never an excuse of rudeness. That is the moral of this story.

EXCEPT for the fact that his outburst was as a result of supposedly super-drunkeness – i approve of kanye’s outburst. too often we pander to social graces…obviously it was rude, but i guess deep down kanye felt really passionately about how good beyonce’s video was (lol).

it’s taken me this long to comment on it because i really don’t care. either way they’ve both gotten a load of publicity which will inevitably propel their careers into super-duper stardom.

obviously it was rude and horrible to do this to a young girl winning a career-changing award, but kanye gave her a life experience which as a result she has a stronger character. beyonce, just because she’s a class-act now also has about 1 million more fans and a few million more in sales because of her kind words and gesture to Taylor Swift.

Are there any REAL losers? in the grand scheme of things…nope!

Kanye West’s infamous interruption of Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech wasn’t the only unplanned stage-hopping incident at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards.

Somehow, rapper Lil Mama ended up on stage with Jay-Z and Alicia Keys during their performance of Hov’s “Empire State of Mind” – and the hip-hop mogul, whose “The Blueprint 3″ is the top-selling album in the country for a second week running – doesn’t approve.

“To interrupt that moment for us, I don’t think that was the right thing to do,” Jay said on Angie Martinez’s Hot 97 radio show in New York City on Wednesday. “It was a lot of planning that went into that performance. To disrupt that was outta line.”

But now, he admitted, there isn’t much to be done about the incident.

“What I’mma do, fight Lil Mama?” he asked.

For her part, Alicia wasn’t happy about the interruption, either.

“We can appreciate her being overwhelmed and inspired,” Alicia Keys previously told NBC’s “Today” show. “But we would have appreciated it if she would have did it from her seat.”

Lil Mama defended herself to MTV News after the ceremony, explaining, “I started to feel him and I just felt the energy.”

THE GOOD

3 of my good friends celebrated their 23rd birthdays on 13^th September. My Good friend Jam, and my barkada and I went to celebrate the occasion at their house in Montevideo. Another good friend Niel, who I remember I still owe P700. And my good friend from college, Justin, to whom I haven’t spoken to in the longest time, so I just settled on greeting him on facebook.

Korean Rookie Group 4minute, showcased their new song Muzik from their 1^st mini album, and I must say that the song is sooo good. The choreography was simple yet intense. It was a far cry from their performances of HOT Issue, though not horrendous was an inch above from mediocre song. GaYoon really has amazing vocals as well as Ji Youn?(the lady in shades). And amazingly Hyun Ah let go of her annoyingly squeaky voice! It was such a nice comeback song from them! So Good Job to them!

THE BAD

Salinggawi Dance Troupe (University of Santo Tomas) lost in the UAAP Cheerdance competition held at the Araneta Center 13^th September. Being the proud Thomasian that I am, I was supposed to go and watch the competition to support my Alma Mater (I even was close to ordering a jersey!) but I opted not to because it was my friend Jam’s birthday. It was bad because this is the first time ever, in the history of UAAP Cheering that UST failed to make it on the top 3. I know I wouldn’t be disappointed in their performances becoz knowing Gawi, I know they wouldn’t let the Thomasian crowd down. But I decided I’m not yet ready to search and watch the routine on youtube mainly because I know I will find rude comments from low life beings bashing UST and the like. I am hearing good stuff regarding UST Routine though, but also comments about FEU and Ateneo stating that they don’t deserve 1^st and 2^nd place respectively. Now, I am a fan of the Cheerdance Competition for nearly 10 years now, and I know that FEU is constantly on 3^rd place and even bagging a title in im not sure when. So I’m pretty confident that they did good. As for Ateneo, I’ve seen the Blue Babble Battalion grew and improve throughout the years. There were times that I felt the Ateneo deserved to be in the top 3 but for some reason didn’t made it. It might come as a surprise that this year they placed 2nd because people were used to seeing UST, UP and FEU and occasionaly other teams, making the top 3 spots, but it would be unfair to say otherwise just because the result showed something different. I will say the I feel bad, might’ve been bitter that my dear Gawi lost,but it’s not enough, nor will I stoop down to the level that just because I feel bad, I will say stupid, irrelevant and low life things to other people just to make myself feel better. UST’s Salinggawi has an unprecedented 8 championship titles, 5 of which they claimed on a back to back wins. I am not a sore winner, and I will not be a sore loser either. So I wish to extend my Congratulations to FEU Pep Squad, Ateneo Pep Squad, and UP Pep Squad. And this is my battle Cry, BAWI GAWI!

2ne1: The GOOD and The BAD

2ne1, one of my favourite Kpop Girl Groups performed “Pretty Boy” in Inkigayo on the 6^th. They were wearing this white ensemble and white platform boots! I really thought they did an amazing performance considering the state they were in ( PLATFORM BOOTS! Must have been 7 inches high!) but I was disappointed with the way my fellow 2ne1 fans reacted! I was as though they did something horrendous. Reading the comments I felt scared to watch the performance but thank heavens I did because if I took their words for it, I might’ve regretted it. It was an amazing performance from them, not the best, but totally great. Not at all bad like other people said.

They performed the song again on Music Bank on the 11^th, this time wearing black minus the platform boots, just normal shoes. At they even did a better job.! Kudos to the girls, they are not perfect but if they saw something lacking in their previous performance, they make up for it the next! They are amazing!

The group is taking a break from music shows as they are preparing for their full length album coming late October. I will miss my Girls! And as a goodbye treat, they performed “In the Club” on Inkigayo on 13^th! It was an amazing performance yet again from them, and I’m not being biased just because “In the Club” is my favorite song from their Mini Album but they really did an incredible job. Even the slight cracking of Dara is not enough to say otherwise.

The IDIOT!

1 word: KANYE.

I know h ealready said his sorry and it’s been a week now, but since I still haven’t ranted on it, I might as well go on.

He’s a complete ASSHOLE! And it’s not just because I’m a huge, huge fan of Taylor Swift but I will react the same way if he did it to somebody else. But I doubt he’ll do if it’s not Taylor. He’s got no right whatsoever and for wjatever state he was in. it was a complete BuLL shit on his part.! I feel so bad for Taylor, I even tear up seeing her reaction. You will feel that she was so lost that time. My friends, knowing how I love Taylor asked me if that was staged. I said how can it be, it will be like really stupid of Taylor if she’ll let that. And I know how much happy and appreciative Taylor is whenever she receives nominations on award shows and I don’t think she’ll want something so important to her ruin it just for a show. I dunno, but I believe it wasn’t staged.

La sua premiazione è però stata interrotta dal famoso rapper americano Kanye West che, si dice ubriaco, ha dichiarato:

“Sono contento per te, e poi ti lascio finire, ma Beyoncè ha realizzato uno dei migliori video di tutti tempi”.

Sua opinione ma non certo un’uscita elegante e appropriata. La stessa Beyoncè era molto imbarazzata. Taylor, già timida e molto emozionata, si è vergognata per l’accaduto. Fortuna che Beyoncè, che è una signora, al momento di ritirare il premio come Miglior video dell’anno, ha chiamato sul palco Taylor Swift per condividerlo con lei.

Si dice che il rapper di colore abbia detto anche qualcosa di offensivo e razzista verso la cow-girl bianca. Ma non vogliamo crederlo. Fatto sta che il Presidente degli Stati Uniti Obama appena ha saputo dell’accaduto ha esclamato:

“Che stupido” riferendosi a West.

VMA Outburst Aftermath: Jay-Z Defends Kanye West

It really is no surprise to me that he seemingly laid back, Jay-Z, came to the defense of Kanye West after Kanye’s little (possibly) “drunken” breakdown on the MTV VMA show last week.

For those of you wondering where in the world Jay-Z was during the Kanyegate furor, the answer is England.

Which would explain why he was about the only person in the world who hasn’t yet weighed in on Kanye West’s Taylor Swift-belittling VMA hissy fit on our shores. That is, until a BBC Radio 1 DJ got hold of Hova today.

“It’s an awards show,” Jay-Z said, dismissing the hullabaloo around his “Run This Town” collaborator (and de facto “little brother”)’s spotlight hijacking.

“He’s just a superpassionate person.”

“I think it’s a bit blown out. It was pretty rude,” he said, adding, “At the end of the day, we’re gonna celebrate him for his passion more than vilify him. As he grows and matures, he has to balance that.

“It just wasn’t appropriate. It wasn’t fair to Taylor. It wasn’t fair to her at all.”

…”I don’t think he should lay low. I think he should move on and have a brilliant career.”

Yeah, I’m gonna “go there” just a bit. I understand a thing or two about good vs. bad PR. I know that they are all buddies of some variety and cover each other in the press. Understood. I understand that Jay-Z has an opinion about the fiasco.

To me, Jay-Z’s comment is a bit passive-agressive, agreeing that Kanye’s actions were rude (no arguement there), but at the same time claiming tht Kanye is just a passionate person. Passionate? Why not be passionate about not drinking an entire bottle of Henny behind the scenes around the awards show and causing a fiasco the way Kanye did.

That’s something to be passionate about.

I am passionate about many things, but I am more passionate about not looking like a total “jackass” (Just quoting the President) in public.

I don’t think being passionate is a good excuse or explanation.

What should we say about Li’l Mama running up on stage while Jay-Z and Alicia Keys were singing? Passionate Li’l Mama?

Would Jay-Z have been so dismissive about Kanye’s behavior if is wasn’t in favor of his wife, Beyonce? One must wonder…I’m just sayin’
