I’m kind of on a MUCC-rush (?) right now with their latest release, “Freesia,” that I have been reading interviews of theirs and can’t help but translate them! The single is available at online CD shops and US iTunes store! For people who haven’t heard the single yet:

~PART ONE~

Mucc’s new single “Freesia” will be released November 25. This single is the first piece to be released after the powerful album “Kyuutai” and their label change to DANGER CRUE RECORDS. Following their past 2 singles, ken (L’Arc~en~Ciel) was the producer; with a mix of emotional sound and electronic elements, it has turned out to be a dramatic song that only MUCC can produce.

To commemorate the release of the single, natalie interviewed Tatsuro (Vo) and Miya (G). We heard many interesting stories about hidden secrets about this single, ken as a producer, as well as their overseas activities and behind-the-scenes stories of their first S. America tour.

The popular songs in S. America are different from the popular songs in Japan

–After releasing the album “Kyuutai” in March 2009, you had a national tour, Budokan performance, and overseas tour so I’m under the impression that you guys were very aggressive. Looking back on this year, in terms of Mucc, how was this past year?
Miya: I didn’t feel the amount of lives was too much and that it was just the right amount. In the past, we couldn’t do what we wanted to do, but I think we finally got to make choices this year.

–You also went to S. America for the first time this year, but what made you choose to do a S. America tour?
Miya: Even though we have toured overseas, there are still a lot of countries we haven’t gone to, and within those, there are a lot of places where there are people waiting for us. Since we have the internet now, we have access to information on how many fans are in what country. S. America is one of the places where fans were waiting for us, and even though their terms weren’t as good as Europe’s, we were finally able to go this time.

–I have the image that the S. American audiences are very enthusiastic, but how was their reaction?
Miya: They were very enthusiastic. It is even rarer for Japanese bands to play there compared to Europe, so I could feel they were really welcoming us.

–Mucc’s work isn’t released in S. America, right?
Miya: We haven’t released anything in S. America yet. But with the help of the internet, they know just as many songs as the Japanese fans do.

–Comparing their reactions to the Japanese crowd, did you find any differences?
Miya: The popular songs in S. America are a bit different from the popular songs in Japan. So when we do the lives, we tried to add songs popular there.

–What kind of songs where popular there?
Miya: The singles that we have made PVs for are popular. Among those, “Saishuressha” is extremely popular that it’s like if you say Mucc, it’s that song. On YouTube, bands that cover Mucc usually play “Saishuressha,” and it seems it has the most Japanese melody that it makes it recognizable as Mucc’s icon. When we played it at the live, everyone was really excited and sang along.
Tatsuro: I haven’t talked deeply about what the overseas fans react to before, but I think melody is the biggest. I think they really listen to our melody.

–Tatsuro-san sings in Japanese while overseas as well, so what do you focus on in a place where your words aren’t understood?
Tatsuro: It’s probably not possible to communicate the meaning of the lyrics. It’s hard for us to understand the meaning of Western music so we can only feel it through the melody or sound, expressions, and how the song  sounds. So, it becomes a matter of how well you can gesture to them.

I want overseas tours to feel no different from going to Hokkaido or Kyuushu

–These past few years, you guys have been aggressively doing overseas tours, but where does overseas activities place for Mucc?
Miya: It feels the same as going to Hokkaido or Kyuushu and I hope it stays that way. It’s true that we do take a plane and go to a place far away, but in then end, when we’re there, it’s the same that we’re there to play at a venue. Even though we can’t communicate and there’s less equipment, we’re becoming used to it. Once the live begins, it’s all the same.
Tatsuro: Compared to a national tour, the time we’re on a plane is longer, but the traveling within Europe is by bus and you can just sleep through it, making it easier than traveling within Japan. After the live, we get on the bus, and then we can immediately go to sleep.

–I think you have several interviews at each place during your overseas tours, but is there a difference with foreign media?
Miya: They ask questions about different things compared to Japan. Of course, they ask us about our music, but depending on the country, they’ll ask us about politics, or there’s a hymn in your lyrics so are you Christians or religious things, and so on. I thought it’s different for every country.

–Is there something that was memorable during this overseas tour?
Miya: Traveling from Argentina to Chile.
Tatsuro: There was trouble with the plane and we had to wait for about 6 hours; that was terrible.

–You’ve been to Europe several times for lives, but after each time, is there a change in how well-known you are or reactions?
Miya: The atmosphere is different from the first time we went. The feeling that the audience is satisfied with any Japanese band is diminishing, and they aren’t curious about everything now. Their feeling of “I like this band” is beginning to really come through to us.

I think English lyrics won’t work unless you can speak it

–The more overseas activities you have, I think you become troubled with lyrics. Mucc’s lyrics value Japanese, but are you thinking of starting to write English lyrics to go along with your overseas activity?
Miya: I’d like to try, but I think English lyrics won’t work unless you can speak it.
Tatsuro: There are times when I think if I could speak it, then I’d probably translate it this way, but if I got it translated into English [by someone else], there’s no way of knowing whether the nuance is the same as the original Japanese.
Miya: So, we don’t intend on writing English lyrics right now.

MUCC November Interview

Despite this being a L’Arc main fansite/blog, I love MUCC too. I watched the November interview at BARKS, and though I considered transcribing it at LJ, I decided I’ll just post it here to keep all of my translations together, and because I figured there are a lot of L’Arc fans who enjoy MUCC and vice versa. So, here is the translation of the whole video:

Tatsuro: Okay~, to everyone watching BARKS, this is MUCC!

Tatsuro: So, this is BARKS, who we worked with for the “Sekai wo Itadakimasu” [= "Eating the world" video of them during their tour eating.] and now we’re back. We’re home. We did a lot of things at different places, but speaking of MUCC’s overseas tours, there are always happenings. I wish we could get rid of that follower [referring to the happenings], but how was it? It’s kind of weird for me to ask…
YUKKE: How about those MUCC happenings…
Tatsuro: I’d like to ask the culprit instead of the victim… How was it, this time’s happening?
YUKKE: There were no cruel intentions behind it.
Tatsuro: Well, first off, please explain the situation.
YUKKE: Well, umm, it’s during the live..
Tatsuro: yes, yes.
YUKKE: and we were playing passionately and moving around, when the head of my bass and Tatsuro’s left eye went BAM! [claps hand]
Tatsuro: BAM!
Satochi: You said “orya!?”[=an expression kinda like "uh!" when you hit something].
Tatsuro: You said “Ei!” [= another expression for when hitting, but more intense?]
Satochi: Yeah, you said “Ei!” and smirked. [all of this "orya!" and "Ei!" is a joke, obviously]
YUKKE: He said he was used to it, but we immediately went to the hospital.
Tatsuro: Yes, we went.
YUKKE: We went.
Tatsuro: So I held my eye and said “Ohta-san[? kinda muffled so couldn't understand but sounds like a name], camera! Give me a camera!”
YUKKE: His professionalism was great.
Tatsuro: He put in a new roll for me. So we had that kind of a happening, and it was our first time going to Moscow and South America. How was it? We went to different places. Also Spain. How was it? How was it everyone? Satochi-san?
Satochi: Yes, first off, in Russia, the soup was delicious…
Tatsuro: What’s it called?
Satochi: It’s…
YUKKE: (whispers) Borscht.
Satochi: Borscht.
Tatsuro: yeah… don’t tell him!
Satochi: It’s really red!
Tatsuro: Yeah, red!
Satochi: It’s really red! but! the taste is totally different.
Tatsuro: Oh really? then what color was the taste?
Satochi: umm… a refreshing… light blue.
Tatsuro: It tasted like refreshing light blue? okay. It looks like it might be really hot and spicy, but it’s not and it’s refreshing and light blue-like, and — oh but you don’t really see Russian restaurants in Japan. They’re probably around somewhere, but you don’t see them a lot.
YUKKE: Yeah, you don’t see them a lot, but I’d like to go.
Tatsuro: me too.
YUKKE: I’d like to eat a piroshky.
Tatsuro: ne. How about you, leader? The audience reaction and such?
Miya: hmm? We went to S. America for the first time, but they really welcomed us and that was really nice. and there was a lot of spicy foods.
Tatsuro: Oh yeah, there were a lot of spicy foods.
YUKKE: Hot peppers.
Tatsuro: There was a weird sauce thing that was always served with the steak and that was good.
YUKKE: That was good! that was good! It was like a chili sauce?
Tatsuro: What was that? I don’t know but that was good. and so, we do a lot of interviews about overseas activities, but apparently, it’s been 3 years, it kinda seems like we’ve been doing it for longer, but they say it’s been 3 years since our first overseas live. Doesn’t it feel like it’s been longer?
YUKKE: 3 years?
Miya: We’ve been going since 2005.
Tatsuro: So its our 4th year?
YUKKE: 4 years.
Tatsuro: So 3 years have passed and we haven’t reached a full 4 years yet. How is it? What have you become accustomed to and what you still aren’t used to?
YUKKE: I still can’t get used to airplanes.
Tatsuro: You were fine the first time.
YUKKE: Yeah i was fine the first time.
Tatsuro: So it’s becoming worse.
YUKKE: It’s getting worse every time. and I can’t get used it. This time we rode a plane 13 times.
Tatsuro: Yeah, this time, even I was sick of planes.
YUKKE: It’s not “even you.”
Tatsuro: I didn’t have any feelings towards planes, but I really didn’t want to ride it after a while. What else?
SATOchi: In the past, I hadn’t really cared about pillows, but this time, I was really conscious about my pillow, and then after coming home, I’ve been thinking, “maybe I’ll buy a nice bed.”
Tatsuro: Why did you shift from pillow to bed?
SATOchi: No, no it’s sleep! sleep! I really felt sleep is really important.
Tatsuro: Oh~, you’ve become grown up!
SATOchi: Right?
Tatsuro: Although… I do see Satochi-san drunk and lying on the ground sleeping a lot… but he says sleep is important and wants a new bed. What about you, leader?
Miya: I think I’m completely used to their food. It was good.
Tatsuro: Yeah, the tours recently have no stress as a matter of food. It’s, conversely, becoming something we look forward to. Now, the year 2009… well, there’s only about 3 days left but if you would describe this year with 1 kanji, how would you describe it? Satochi-san knows very limited amount of kanji so his choices are limited. So do we write it? on this paper? What color do you guys want?
YUKKE: G, green. thanks.
[I think Tatsuro almost handed him green, then handed him a different color]
Tatsuro: and Satochi-san?
SATOchi: Red. Ah he gave me red! No! I don’t want red! I thought you’d do that.
[Miya just quietly takes the red out of SATOchi's hand and starts writing]
Tatsuro: Then what color do you want?
SATOchi: Brown.
Tatsuro: You want brown?
SATOchi: What the hell. What was that?

Tatsuro: Yukke-san, yukke-san, DON! I can’t see it. it’s too light.
YUKKE: “Tama” or “kyu”[= means "ball"] since we did a tour called “kyuutai” and the tour was pretty long and we went around the world.
Tatsuro: Ahh, you said something good!
YUKKE: Yeah, it just came to me. but it was really that kind of a year, kyuutai.
Tatsuro: Well, Satochi-san’s still writing, so leader! DON! “sake”[=alcohol] what does this mean?
YUKKE: It might be more his condition now.
Tatsuro: What does this mean? “sake”?
Miya: “second drunk.”
Tatsuro: Oh~! “Second drunk” as “futsuka-yoi.” [Miya did a literal translation of the Japanese word "futsuka-yoi"  which literally is written "2 day drunk" and is the equivalent of "hangover"] I don’t know if “second drunk” is correct, but that symbolizes 2009. You’ve started to drink more this year.
YUKKE: yeah, he drank a lot overseas.
Tatsuro: I feel I see leader drinking more often, probably more recently. Okay, so me… or Satochi-san, do you want to go? How about I go? DON! “nagareru” [=to flow]. I think the flow from album to tour was amazing. and then we have together “ryuukyu” although the characters are different [joking that it makes "ryuukyu" referring to Ryukyu Islands] Anyways there was a lot going on this year. Now Satochi-san, what do you have? DON! “ki” [=spirit] what do you mean by this?
SATOchi: well… I thought everyone was psyched. the members and staff, everyone was stirred.
Tatsuro: It’s past tense, so it sounds a bit sad, and maybe it’s ended for Satochi-san, his spirit. Well, the end has kind of become negative thanks to Satochi-san, but
SATOchi: no no no no no.
Tatsuro: We said this before, JCB HALL. “You said this during the MC at JCB Hall, but will you do a lot of tours in Japan in 2010?” We’d like to.
YUKKE: Of course we do.
Tatsuro: We had some this year, but we’d like to next year.
YUKKE: Yeah like go to places we couldn’t go to this year.
Tatsuro: Where?
YUKKE: Aomori?
Tatsuro: Ahh you’re right. I don’t understand why it’s been pinpointed.
YUKKE: I want to go to Okinawa.
Tatsuro: Yeah, Okinawa. There’s a lot of places we’d like to go, but if we don’t plan it right, places like Germany and Paris will think “MUCC isn’t coming anymore?”
YUKKE: yeah…
Tatsuro: So, may it be Germany, Paris, Japan, there are a lot of places we’d like to go.

Tatsuro: Okay, so plans for the future and a message to fans. Then as a representative, Satochi-san, who previously said a negative comment, please give us a big statement not negative. Something like bam! 2010 we’re doing this…
YUKKE: umm yeah, Sato will say it.
Tatsuro: Yeah say something good.
SATOchi: You aren’t letting me speak. Umm yeah…
Miya: On December 25th… [arrow says 'ingenious timing']
Tatsuro: Oh! There’s stuff about next year, but on December 25th, there’s the digital release, Satochi san!
SATOchi: Ah! Christmas song.
Tatsuro: Mucc plays a Christmas song! It’s limited to digital release, so Satochi-san?
SATOchi: Umm… December…
YUKKE: the 5th.
SATOchi: the 5th.

Tatsuro: How bad is your eyesight!? and how small is that memo!? It’s been a while… our fifth time, En-5, we will be holding it at Yokosuka so it’d be great if you could come. Also, Feb. 14 and 17, we will have a live at NHK Hall and NHK Osaka Hall. Feb. 14!
YUKKE: Valentine’s!
Tatsuro: Yes, Valentine’s! So much chocolate!
YUKKE: How much? About 100,000 people?
Tatsuro: Our first one-man will be then, so it’ll be a chocolate one-man show! so if you could come see us, that’d be great. Please come!

Mucc (ムック, escrito MUCC) é uma banda visual kei formada em 1997. O nome da banda vem de um personagem do seriado japonês infantil “Ponkickies”. A banda, diferente de outras do mesmo estilo, faz um som mais diversificado (eu diria até psicodélico). Sua música vai do punk até o hard rock, e às vezes até o soft rock. Após o lançamento de Horizont, eles foram mais longe ainda, incorporando sons de tango e disco em suas músicas.
Tão ousado quanto suas músicas são também seus PVs. O último, Freesia, fez jus ao estilo da banda, possuindo um ar misterioso. O single de mesmo nome, lançado no dia 25 de Novembro de 2009, foi produzido por ken de L’Arc~en~Ciel, que também trabalhou no álbum Kyuutai e nos singles anteriores.
Freesia possui duas versões diferentes. A versão limitada possui a faixa título, um b-side chamado Shuushifu e um remix de Freesia. A versão regular contém um b-side diferente, chamado Rakuen. Como o single foi lançado hoje, ainda não tive chance de avaliá-lo, mas posso garantir que se estiver no mesmo naipe da faixa Freesia, o single promete!

MUCC (ムック) es una banda japonesa de rock con estilo angura kei, se formó en Ibaraki, Japón en 1997. La banda tiene cuatros miembros 逹瑯 (Tatsurou Iwakami, vocalista), ミヤ (Masaaki Yaguchi, guitarra), YUKKE (Yusuke Fukuno, bajo) and SATOち (Satochi Takayasu, batería) ex-integrantes Hiro fue el bajista y YUKKE lo reemplazó en 1999.

El nombre de la banda fue decidido por ミヤ Miya el guitarrista, era originalmente el nombre de un personaje del programa infantil japonés “Ponkickies.” La banda es también conocida como “seis y nueve” de un juego de palabras, desde seis a nueve se puede pronunciar “muku” (六九) en japonés. 9 de junio (6 / 9) también es conocido como “el día MUCC” por sus fans.

En 2000 la banda tuvo su primera entrevista en la publicación mensual FOOL’S MATE, número 221. Tattoo (la voz) cambió su nombre a Tatsurou y el nombre de la banda MUCC se cambió a ムック(pronunciado MUKKU).

El 6 / 9 ( “día de MUCC”) lanzaron su primer CD single “娼妇/廃” (Shoufu / HAI) y una segunda edición de su álbum “アンティーク” (Antiiku). Han tenido muchas giras alrededor del mundo, y éste año 2009 será la primera vez que visiten Latinoamérica a países como México y Chile.

El 28 de enero 2009 lanzaron un nuevo single “空と糸” (Sora a Ito), junto con Ken de L’arc ~ en ~ Ciel. El 4 de marzo 2009 su álbum de 9 “球体” (Kyuutai) salió a la venta.

El grupo presenta el día 25 de este mes,su nuevo sencillo.Saldrá en versión regular y limitada.La edición regular constará de 2 tracks y la limitada de 3.En ningún momento se ha anunciado dvd,asi que será una edición limitada solo en audio.El segundo track es diferente en cada edición.

Etwas spät, aber besser als nie, kommt die Review zu einem der (von mir persönlich) langerwartetsten Gigs des Jahres.

Nachdem die Jungs sich seit ihrem Coupling mit BALZAC vor 2 Jahren nicht mehr hier blicken haben lassen (lediglich in Hamburg, im Rahmen der Rockstar Taste of Chaos Tour), haben sie nun endlich in die hiesigen Gewilde zurückgefunden und sind im Moment mit einer herausragenden Welttournee auf europäischen und sogar südamerikanischen Bühnen unterwegs.

Wie der Tag in München en detail war, verrate ich unter dem Cut.

Das Konzert selbst war bereits eineinhalb Wochen vor ihrer Ankunft in München ausverkauft und zur angekündigten Autogrammstunde, so schien es, war auch gut die Hälfte der Kartenbesitzer vor dem Neo Tokyo in München versammelt. Dennoch ließ man sich im Neo für wirklich jeden, der ein Autogramm haben wollte, die Zeit und schaffte es auch tatsächlich, dass sämtliche Besucher an diesem Samstag Mittag mit einem glücklichen Gesicht das Geschäft wieder verließen.

Mucc, welche seit 2 Jahren nicht mehr in München gespielt hatten und von deren letzter Autogrammstunde man noch in Erinnerung hatte, dass ihr Englisch nicht sonderlich hervorragend war, hatten sich gemausert und gingen mit viel Spaß und einem Lächeln in ihre Signing Session. Man begrüßte die Fans auf Englisch, schüttelte Hände und wünschte ihnen für den kommenden Abend viel Spaß, auch wenn das Wetter eventuell nicht das beste war. Bereits hier wird aber schon klar: Wow! Irgendwas ist anders.

Die Jungs schienen ja schon so vor Energie zu sprühen, dass es selbst in einer Autogrammstunde bemerkbar ist. Und das, obwohl sie schon seit über einer Woche ununterbrochen durch Russland, Finnland und Schweden gereist sind und am Vortag bereits einen Gig in Bochum gespielt haben. Man merkte ihnen keinerlei Erschöpfung oder Müdigkeit an.

Trotz des doch recht – naja sagen wir mal – beschissenen Wetters, um es mal einigermaßen wertneutral zu vermitteln, fanden sich bereits nach der Autogrammstunde viele der Fans vor der Halle ein und harrten dort bis ca. 18 Uhr aus. Das Team beim Backstage kam nur schleppend mit der Masse voran und so kam es zu leichten Verzögerungen beim Einlass, was wiederum auch eine kleine Verzögerung des Konzertbeginns zur Folge hatte. Nichtsdestotrotz füllte sich die Halle nach und nach und im warmen Backstage gingen dann auch irgendwann gegen 20 Uhr die Lichter aus. Unter tosendem Beifall wurde die Band begrüßt und mit ihrem Intro vom Album “Kyutai” wurde das Konzert in München eröffnet.

Die Band spielte hauptsächlich die Lieder vom neuen Album, legte direkt mit “Hide and Seek” los, was dann in “Ageha” überging. Grundsätzlich vermittelte das komplette Konzert eine geballte Energie, welche von der Band auf das Publikum übertragen wurde. Man merkte, dass Mucc sich wieder einmal weiter entwickelt hatten. Die Erfahrungen, die sie bei ihren Shows im Rahmen der Taste Of Chaos Tour gemacht haben, wurden wunderbar umgesetzt und so schien es, dass neben den Fans, auch die Band auf der Bühne eine Menge Spaß hatte.

Nachdem mit “Utagoe” ein schon etwas älterer Song gespielt wurde, kramte Tatsurou seine Mundharmonika hervor und das Intro zu “Fuzz” wurde gespielt. Die Halle war außer sich, was man auch am Thermometer ablesen konnte. Das Atmen wurde schwerer aber dann kam mit “Fuyuu” auch noch einmal ein ruhigerer Song und für alle Beteiligten eine kleine Atempause. Eigentlich der einzige wirklich ruhige Song des Abends, auch wenn er nicht unbedingt zu meinen Lieblingen gehört, ist Live wirklich gut, was wiederum aber auch an der Kombination mit dem darauf folgenden “Hanabi” lag, welches Tatsurou a capella beginnt und sich dann, nach und nach, immer weiter steigert, bis man merkt, wie gut der Song eigentlich ist.

Nach diesem eher ruhigeren Teil der Setlist, ging es noch einmal heiß her, bevor die Band dann für eine kleine Unterbrechung die Bühne verließ. Vor der Zugabe gab es interessanterweise kleine MCs der Bandmember. So erzählte YUKKE uns, dass er es draußen sehr kalt fände, aber es in der Halle verdammt heiß wäre, Miya versuchte mit einigen Worten und viel Gestik zu erklären, dass es schwer fällt in dieser Hitze zu atmen und sprach uns aus der Seele. SatoChi indes fand uns einfach nur super und Tatsurou meinte letztendlich noch, dass sie wiederkommen werden, worüber sich natürlich jeder freute. Außerdem brachte er uns ein japanisches Wort bei, welches die gesamte Halle im Chor wiederholen sollte. Leider weiß ich nicht mehr, welches Wort es war (bei Informationen, bitte her damit~), aber es brachte die Staffmember sichtlich zum Lachen.

Die Zugabe bestand zwar nur aus zwei Liedern, “Ryuusei” und “Libra“, letzteres war bei den Fans aber so beliebt, dass es nicht weiter tragisch war, als die Jungs die Bühne endgültig verließen.  Nach gut eineinhalb  Stunden also war das Konzert vorbei, der Merchandise-Stand belagert und draußen immer noch arschkalt.

Mucc haben nach 2 Jahren des Fehlens gezeigt, dass sie es immer noch drauf haben. Aus ihren Tagen mit anderen Bands auf Tour beim RToC haben sie gelernt und wissen, wie sie es auf der Bühne umzusetzen haben. Pluspunkte gibt’s auch für den Umgang mit ihren Fans, denen sie zum einen noch offener begegnen als bisher sowieso schon und welche sie auch in ihr Konzert besser einbeziehen. Das Konzert war für mich persönlich eines der Highlights des Jahres und ich habe lange darauf gewartet die Band wieder zu sehen. Obwohl ich eher skeptisch zum Gig gegangen bin, da mir “Kyutai“, wie bereits erwähnt, nicht all zu sehr gefallen hatte, war ich doch positiv überrascht. Mucc wissen was sie tun und wie man seine Fans bei Laune hält.

Außerdem essen Mucc gerne, weshalb es zur Welttournee auch eine Reihe von Videos gibt, mit dem Titel “MUCC WORLD CIRCUIT 2009-Solid Sphere- ~Sekai no itadakimasu~“, in welchen sie über das Essen auf ihrer Tour berichten. Interessant zu sehen, was es in Finnland, Schweden und Deutschland bisher gab. Weitere Videos folgen sicherlich.

seguimos con la intención de mostraros algunas de las cosas que hicimos durante los viajes a Japón que finalmente han desembocado en la elaboración del proyecto Crónicas desde Cipango, que poco a poco va llegando a su forma final. En esta ocasión, y siguiendo la veda abierta por el concierto de MUCC al que asistimos hace poco, hoy os hablamos también de música nipona y lo hacemos con algo muy especial. En 2008 tuvimos la oportunidad de asistir a un festival de esos que quitarían el hipo a cualquier fan del Rock japonés, el hide memorial summit, el homenaje a hide, guitarrista de X Japan, en el décimo aniversario de su muerte. No solo era especial por el hecho de asistir al homenaje del guitarrista de una de nuestras bandas favoritas, si no que además el cartel que se congregó fue de auténtico lujo: destacamos MUCC, Dir En Grey, Despairs Ray, Luna Sea y los propios X Japan entre otros. Un auténtico delirio, mucho más cuando todas las bandas se unieron para un épico tema final de X Japan, “X”.

El memorial duró un par de días, nosotros asistimos al segundo por razones obvias.

Os dejamos con el vídeo que hicimos hace tiempo, que es un poco largo, pero os aseguramos que vale la pena (buscadme en la fila 10, delante del escenario pequeño de la derecha ^_^).  Al final aparece una buena amiga opinando sobre el concierto y un servidor (pero en su momento no pensé en subtitularlo, así que haremos un poco de “escucha catalán” pepino-style).

En Barcelona hay una peluquería llamada Shibuya de Pako que está especializada en hacer peinados al estilo Visual Kei, pero aparte de esto, su propietario, Pako, fue el responsable de traer los primeros grupos Visual Kei a Barcelona. Lo hizo cuando nadie habría apostado un duro en la posibilidad de que esto se consolidara (bueno, la revista Hell Awaits si apostábamos por ello, siendo los primeros del Estado español en entrevistar a Mana de Malice Mizer/Moi dix Mois, y la primera banda de Visual Kei en tocar en Barcelona, los no tan conocidos Blood – toma vacilada gratuita ). Y aunque estamos lejos de poder decir que el Visual Kei tiene una escena saludable, que una promotora de conciertos veterana  en el mundo del Metal haya empezado a traer bandas japonesas es una buena señal. Pero antes de esto, cuando aún era impensable que se trajeran el ya considerable número de bandas que se han traído, la web de Shibuya de Pako tenía una encuesta para estudiar los gustos de los fans del Visual Kei de cara a futuros proyectos. Nosotros contestamps esa encuesta, y aunque pensábamos que nuestro candidato, por ser menos Visual, y por tener una propuesta musical algo diferente, no triunfaría, ayer por la noche pudimos verlos finalmente en Barcelona. Señoras y señores… ¡MUCC!

El concierto en realidad se celebraba en Hospitalet de Llobregat (cerca de Barcelona) en la Sala Salamandra, y como viene siendo habitual en un domingo por la tarde. Nosotros llegamos temprano y pudimos ver que más de media hora antes ya se había formado una cola considerable (que no espectacular), y a saber las horas que hacía que estaban allí todos esos chicos y chicas guarnecidos para la ocasión con sus mejores galas inspiradas en las modas niponas, aunque había muchos que vestían con tanta sencillez como un servidor, todo hay que decirlo (aquí muestras del fenómeno fan en vídeo). Con la sospecha de que éramos los veteranos del local, y por goleada, nos colocamos discretamente en la parte trasera mientras el resto se apelotona en las primeras filas (a pesar de que había espacio de sobra y que el escenario es muy próximo al público, incluso estando atrás como nosotros).

Tras esperar pacientemente una hora se cerraban las luces y los miembros de MUCC empezaban a desfilar hasta sus puestos, provocando así el inicio de la galería de grititos histéricos tan habituales en conciertos de bandas japonesas (aunque MUCC sean algo “distintos” en ese aspecto). El gran tamaño de la sala junto al número relativamente reducido de asistentes, al menos si lo comparamos con otras ciudades europeas, hacían que la energía de MUCC se diluyera un poco al traspasar el escenario, pero esto no resta ni un ápice a la calidad que mostró en todo momento el cuarteto nipón (aunque titubearon un poquito al principio, ¿quizás por el cansancio de la gira?). Esperemos que poco a poco los fans del Visual Kei se vayan haciendo mayores y puedan entrar más en la sala, y que los que ya pueden entrar y sigan creciendo no dejen de asistir (que los conciertos fuesen más baratos ayudaría, pero ese es un tema mucho más complicado).

El variopinto pero casi siempre jovencísimo público los recibió con muchas ganas de botar y gritar, con algún que otro regalo, pero también nos fijamos en algo, cierta imposibilidad genética para hacer los clásicos cuernos de todo concierto Metal o Rock que se precie (\m/_), lo que nos puede demostrar dos cosas: o que aún no han incorporado este clásico gesto en su repertorio por falta de experiencia, o porque realmente se han importado de forma total y efectiva los tics gestuales de los japoneses, mucho menos agresivos y algo nenazas (con todos mis respetos). Así que mientras levantábamos nuestros cuernos al aire, sintiéndonos algo más viejecitos, disfrutábamos de un repertorio bastante bien escogido, ofreciendo una buena muestra de la variedad estilística del conjunto, pero apuntando a que nos quedaríamos con ganas de muchos de sus viejos y no tan viejos hits.

MUCC son una banda con bastante éxito en Japón, pero a nosotros siempre nos ha parecido que entre el público Visual Kei español no acaban de cuajar del todo, y seguramente por ello han tardado tanto en venir (y es que ya hace algunos años pululan con relativo éxito por Europa). Y es que a pesar de sus inicios más Visualeros, y sus obvias connexiones con el estilo, MUCC siempre se han distinguido por transitar su propio camino, con sus propias reglas, y seguramente sin mirar nunca hacia atrás. Son una de esas bandas valientes que se atreven a hacer lo que les sale de los mismos, y eso, te guste o no el resultado, es de admirar. Con todo esto, es difícil definir su propuesta, que tanto tiene influencias de Thrash Metal o Nu-Metal, como de música Disco, Funky, Pop, o el Punk más dulzón (y algunos toques Visual, tanto en lo estético como en lo musical). Pero creemos que hay algo muy propio de MUCC que va más allá del Visual Kei o de cualquier otro estilo, y es que muchas de sus composiciones acostumbran a salirse de lo convencional, procuran no caer en las estructuras típicas y tópicas y ofrecer algo distinto, algo que consiga despertar la oreja del oyente. Eso se traduce a veces en canciones más “incómodas”, ya que sus experimentos no siempre son fáciles de digerir, tienen un punto extraño que va muy bien con esas atmósferas lúgubres que tan bien recrean (cuando les da la gana hacerlo).

Con la actuación de MUCC pasó lo mismo que suele pasar con todas las bandas niponas. Su sonido acostumbra a ser impecable, pero al mismo tiempo a un volumen algo más bajo de lo habitual (deducimos que hay cierta relación en ambas cosas), su ejecución también excelente, ya dijimos ayer que estábamos ante grandes músicos, y eso lo demuestran también en directo. Pero en esa misma perfección está el “problema”, por llamarlo de alguna manera. Y es que lo hacen tan bien, de forma tan clavada al original, que se pierde cierta espontaneidad, se pierde un poco la mala leche aumentada que necesita un concierto. No estamos escuchando un CD, pero lo parece, y es que salirse del guión es algo que muchas bandas niponas no están dispuestas a hacer. En ese sentido, MUCC podrían tomar nota de ellos mismos y de la interpretación que hicieron de “Libra”, ya que esta interpretación sí fue un poco más allá de lo habitual, y si bien el tema puede hacerse algo monótono en el disco, su intensa performance elevó a la máxima potencia la canción.

“Libra” fue una gran colofón final para un buen concierto de MUCC, a quienes por el momento solo habíamos podido ver en tocando 4  o 5 temas en el concierto de homenaje a hide (del que os hablaremos próximamente), y aunque la hora y media de rigor de los grupos nipones da para bastante, el repertorio de MUCC es tan extenso que nos quedamos con las ganas de muchos, muchos temas. Algunos de ellos os los dejamos a continuación.

pues sí, hace tiempo que no tenemos la ocasión de asistir a un concierto de una banda japonesa  (algo que empieza a estar cada vez más normalizado, a pesar de que muchos pensaban que esto duraría dos días). Y lo mejor es que hoy en Barcelona (en realidad en Hospitalet de Llobregat) finalmente va a tocar una de nuestras bandas favoritas dentro del panorama Rock/Metal/Visual Kei japonés. No es fortuito que les describamos con tanta etiqueta, y es que MUCC son un grupo muy variado estilísticamente y han tocado muchos palos (llegando a fusionar música Disco con Metal, Punk, Rock o Nu-Metal),  aunque siempre con una coherencia que asegura su credibilidad como banda (y a parte de esto, son grandes músicos).

Por eso este domingo 25 de Octubre, a partir de las 19h en la sala Salamandra de l’Hospitalet de Llobregat, no nos vamos a perder su concierto (supongo que a unos 30 euros la entrada - más info aquí). ¿Os apuntáis? Creemos que vale mucho la pena, y si tuviésemos uno de esos distintivos tipo comerjapones.com con un “Recomendado por La Arcadia de Urías”, se lo pondríamos a este concierto. Además es su último concierto de la gira europea, y eso siempre hace los conciertos algo más especiales.

We were placed right in front of the stage where we could actually touch Miya’s leg when he came too close xD OMG, heaven! Well, I didn’t have a chance to touch SATOち (or his leg) before after the concert where we waited for an hour and a half to meet the band outside their bus. It was freezing!

- But worth the time waiting!! I got all their autographs and a picture with SATOち! It almost felt like a living dream, and when he was about to go inside the bus I realized that this was my only chance to hug him, so… I guess it is called running after the biggest idol of your life saying: “No, no, no, no, no”… But I did it, I hugged SATOち!! Now I can die without regrets… (heart) ^_^

MUCC are always up to something, always having at least one new release to keep their fans excited about. Now,  only a few weeks after the announcement of the new single Freesia (Nov. 25th) a live DVD is to be released on December 23.

The DVD, named “Live Chronicle 3 ~”Kyutai” in Nippon Budokan~” will feature the 180 minutes long concert at Nippon Budokan on 2009.03.25. That’s 3 hours (!!!). Spectacular as always. The limited edition comes with a whole bunch of extra treat. A “Special Prestige Package”, a picture booklet and a reproduction from both tour staff passes and (this is awesome!) a reproduction of the guitar picks from both Miya and YUKKE.

Seeing as the last Ltd. Edition Live Chronicle DVD was on sale for 14286 yen (155 USD, CDJapan) I wouldn’t expect any less amount this time. So, all you hardcore MUCC fans out there, you know what to wish for Christmas this year!

In case anyone have missed, Barks are featuring a MUCC documentary series from the Europe tour. But if you’ve expected to see yourself at the front of you show, I’m truly sorry to have to dissapoint you! It’s all about food! The series is called “Seikai no itadakimasu”. As of today, videos of Helsinki (Finland) and Sweden’s Stockholm and Malmö are on Barks.jp.

Nach einer gefühlten Ewigkeit verschlägt es die japanische Rockformation Mucc wieder einmal in hiesige Gefilde.  Sofern sie bereits ihre früheren Eroberungsfeldzüge in Europa als “World Tour” titulierten, ist es diesmal wirklich eine Welttournee und die Band verschlägt es neben Deutschland auch nach Frankreich, Russland und sogar Südamerika.

Aus gegebenen Anlass – und weil ich es zum Release nicht getan habe – folgt nun eine kleine Review ihres bisher jüngsten Werks: Kyutai.

Das man mit seinen Aufgaben wächst, ist ein Sprichwort, welches wohl ziemlich jedem bekannt sein dürfte, wohl auch den vier Jungs von Mucc. Diese müssen nach dem relativ erfolgreichen Rockpop-Album “Shion” jetzt natürlich nochmals eine Schippe drauflegen, können es sich aber leisten auch ein wenig mit ihrem Sound zu experimentieren.

Während “Shion” damals schon die Grundlage für einen Sound lieferte, der auch einen kleinen Elektro- bzw. Synthesizer-Anteil besaß, zeigt sich bei “Kyutai” schon im für Mucc typischen Intro, dass man an diesen Klängen versucht weiterhin festzuhalten. Auf der neusten Scheibe der Japaner sind solche Klänge also schon beinahe alltägliches Gut, mit dem hantiert wird.

Das soll aber nicht heißen, dass Mucc sich ab sofort nicht mehr mit altbewährtem rumschlagen. Bereits im zweiten Titel “Houkou” zeigen sie ihre Stärke, welche im normalen Rock, auch ganz ohne Synthesizer etc., zu finden sind. Nichtsdestotrotz bietet es für hart gesottene Fans, die sich auf Muccs frühere Talente gefreut hatten, einen faden Nachgeschmack.

Das erste Hälfte des Albums durchzieht eine gewisse Monotonie, die für Mucc-Fans eher überraschend ist. Nicht falsch verstehen: Die Songs haben ein hohes Niveau und sind durchgehend gut, doch irgendwie haut es auch keiner der Songs großartig raus.

Tatsurous Gesang ist in manchen Songs noch genauso markant und gänsehaut-verursachend, wie auf den älteren Alben und Miyas Gitarrenspiel scheint sich um Welten verbessert zu haben.  Trotzdem bleibt immer der Gedanke im Hinterkopf: “Wieder eher Pop-Rock“. Zumindest erging es mir so beim ersten Hören.

Wenn man sich aber dazu durchringt, das Album ein zweites, drittes, viertes, oder gar fünftes Mal zu hören, merkt man, dass es doch irgendwie noch mehr Mucc beinhaltet, als man denkt. Da kommen dann solche Nummern wie “Lemming” auf einen zu, ungefähr auf der Hälfte des Albums, die dann mit einem grandiosen Solo in der Mitte des Songs punkten und für eine Weile im Gehörgang verbleiben. Das sind dann auch die Songs, welche die Band live zu dem machen, was sie sind: atemberaubend.

Kyutai

Dicht gefolgt wird “Lemming” dann von seinem (auf dem Album) Nachfolger: “Oz“. Der Song bietet schon ein einwandfreies Intro und schickt den Hörer dann auf eine kleine Odysee. Zwischen Miyas leichtfüßigem Gitarrenakkorden und Tatsurous Gesang, tummelt sich der schon erwähnte Electrosound, fügt sich aber ohne großes umsehen sehr gut in den Song ein und verleiht ihm seine Note.

Nach diesen eher Metal-lastigeren Songs folgt nun die zweite Hälfte (die eigentlich eher das letzte Drittel bezeichnet): Hier scheint es Mucc noch einmal etwa religiöser angehen zu wollen.

“Fuyuu” ist hierbei mehr oder minder die Einleitung, welche mit starkem Pop-Charakter daherkommt und – wenn man so will – auf den darauf folgenden Track, namens “Sanbika”, einstimmt. “Sanbika” selbst ist recht hochtragend und enthält neben einigen netten Akkorden auch einen grandiosen Gesang, der Tatsurou sicherlich einiges abverlangt.  Kurz vor dem großen Finale des Albums, hauen Mucc dann aber noch einmal mit der Electro-Rock-Keule auf einen ein und man hört “Sora to ito“, welches melodisch – meiner Meinung – nach irgendwie nicht zwischen “Sanbika” und dem abschließenden “Hanabi” passt, denn beide haben diese eher kirchliche bzw. sehr tragende Grundstimmung.

Wie das Sprichwort es am Anfang bereits ankündigte,  wächst man an seinen Aufgaben. Mucc wachsen auch mit den Aufgaben, die sie sich stellen und das Album wächst dem Hörer eventuell auch ein wenig ans Herz. Kyutai ist keines dieser Bombastalben, welches einem direkt in den Sinn kommt, wenn man an die vier aus Ibaraki denkt. Es ist aber eines der Werke, die den Werdegang der Band verdeutlichen und zeigen, dass Mucc nicht immer den selben Brei abliefern, sondern auch experimentieren. Und deswegen gefällt es:

After 20 years in the music scene, The Yellow Monkey get their own tribute album titled, “THIS IS FOR YOU～THE YELLOW MONKEY TRIBUTE ALBUM” on 12/9. An awesome gift for your friend if they like the band.

The Yellow Monkey made its debut in the music scene on December 28, 1989. They officially disbanded on 7/7/2004, but they stopped activities on 1/1/2001 after their last concert in Tokyo Dome.

There will be more than fifty songs on the tribute album, including tracks from some of today’s most popular and talented Japanese artists.

‘Shion’ {‘Kindness of One’s Intentions’}*

If it should turn green it’d be all the more ideal

Acquiring cowardice with diminishing enlightenment, illusions

I can’t go on living high in the sky, I think of you projected on a flower
If I am to mourn make water possible, sound of the meteor shower
echo, echo

The past into which sensation has long vanished
Thousands of lies spewed out unseen
Glorification?  No, a rain of disgrace, know the shame of these arrogant times
The unseen small errands of a farce

I can’t go on living high in the sky, I think of you projected on a flower
“Don’t wither away!” its name is SHION**
I embraced that determined wish in my heart

* The title is a play on words because usually “shion” would be written 「師恩」meaning the kindness of a teacher, however the first kanji has been switched to 「志」which means “intention” or “motive”.
** Here “shion” is written in katakana to give it the meaning of another homonym.  “Shion” is also the name of the aster flower (Aster tartaricus) in Japanese.

Hi, everyone! Sorry i haven’t made the results clear before now, but I think I just had to have a break from the competition… Yeah, bad excuse, I know! Well, I have to put up the results from part 4 before I can reveal the winner of the whole competition, right? Yes… Therefore I will as always write a little about the three nominees which are:

Nominee 1, Satoshi: Fantastic singer with a hairstyle that never fades!

Oh dear… What a wonderful, kind, crazy human being! I love his image, his hair, his voice… EVERYTHING! Actually I think I feel like that about all the members from Girugamesh. They all seem so nice and down to earth, and their music really speaks to you, if you know what I mean? I never thought I’d be so much into that genre of music, until I heard them play! It’s such a great sound! They’re so talented… And his hair. It’s always like that. Kind of curly, kind of straight in a strange way… Never mind, I ADORE IT!

Nominee 2, Miyavi: Crazy (newly dad) with the right hairstyle, songs and messages.

Miyavi is such a wonderful artist! It almost feels like he has grown throughout his career… He’s one of the greatest, I think. And now with a wife and baby-girl and all that! Oh, I’m so happy it almost feels like I had a baby and a wife! ^^ All I’m trying to say is, that I’m glad that he is at this point of his life. Isn’t it what we all kind of wait for in our lives? Well, Miyavi is one lucky man! I really hope him and melody and Lovelie will live happily ever after! (And about his hair.. What does it really matter? he’s good looking anyway!)

Nominee 3, Tatsurou: Poetic, good looking singer, who sings with his soul!

Tatsurou is something I can’t explain with words… He sings so powerful and beautiful and I can’t really describe it! Mucc is also one of the best Japanese bands, I think. As with Girugamesh, they are so down-to-earth and they are not like any other celeb-band… His hair is somehow a part of him and his image, but it’s not like he has to look great to be great, you know… Anyways, I just really hope for Mucc to continue being down-to-earth and play together for a long time!

And now to the results… The fourth finalist in the “Celebrity hairstyles”-competiton and winner of the category “Rockin’ Japan”  is… Miyavi! (Though he is bussy being dad at the moment) Congratulations, Miyavi!

Oh, I’m so excited! I really hope he has had a great day with family and friends! That was simply just what I wanted to say for now… I also hope MUCC will continue to work together for a loooong time, cuz they’re really, really, really amazing!

And I almost forgot to tell you the greatest news (or it isn’t that much a piece of ‘news’ anymore)! MUCC is coming to Denmark! And I can’t wait! What a great, great, great thing to come to Denmark again! This will officially be the first time I see them live, and seriously… I just can’t wait! I’m so looking forward to hear them, see them, feel them! I’m sure everyone would like them, or I hope so. I know I do! And I caaaaan’t wait for the boys to play!

Gosh, looks like I wrote more than expected *giggles* I’m sure this won’t be the first time… But this band is really worth writing about! And I think I’ll write more about them soon… But first I just wanna make an end of that competition and start writing about things people want to read! Well, for now I guess you’ll have to read another blog if you want news!
