Liz and I spent a nostalgic (for me – not for her!) afternoon at Mudeford Beach in Dorset when we were on holiday. My family used to stay in a holiday camp near there when we went on our summer holidays. We would rent a beachhut in Mudeford and spent a lot of time down there…anyway here are some pics I took when we were there. As usual here is a slideshow with a few extra pictures….

New furniture looks at its best in a room recently redecorated. You’ve decided on your new fur

New furniture looks at its best in a room recently redecorated.

You’ve decided on your new furniture and chosen your new curtains and are set fair for the refurbishment of your room – or perhaps even your whole house. Then somebody asks whether all this new furniture will look at its best without redecoration?

Which leaves you with the problem of finding somebody who is professional and reliable from perhaps an anonymous and extensive list of painter decorators in the Bournemouth and Poole area.

Will they do a good job? Are they expensive? Are they recommended? Are they reputable? Are they trustworthy?

Painting and decorating your home sets the tone for all your nice belongings and you are inviting a person unknown to you into your home so, of course, you should be careful and you need to find somebody who will complete the redecoration of your home to your satisfaction!

Here, I answer some of these questions in respect of the painting and decorating services I provide so you know you can contact me for a free quote without fear and can be confident, when I do the work, you will have satisfaction guaranteed.

Am I local? My wife runs Newpoint Hotel B & B in Southbourne. We are well known and trusted locally by many people, especially our visitors who enjoy coming back to our hotel B&B each year.

Am I recommended? I will be more than happy to refer you to tradesmen who have seen my painting and decorating work and appreciate my high level of craftsmanship. Painting and decorating is a professional trade and I have years of experience. Feel free to come along to Newpoint Hotel and see some of my work and to talk about my painting and decorating services first hand. (An appointment is advisable because I’m usually working at client’s premises.)

Am I expensive? Not at the moment. After many years working for clients, I’ve been fortunate enough for the last ten years to be able to work exclusively on home renovations of properties and businesses my wife and I have owned. With the slowdown in the UK economy, property development is no longer so feasible so I am returning to my roots to work for other people as a contracting painter decorator. As my client base builds up again, my rates will naturally rise but, for the moment, I can offer very cheap rates. All quotes, of course, are free so you have nothing to lose.

Am I reliable? As I explained, I have been working for myself for many years and am used to working long days. The quality of my painting and redecoration work is of the utmost pride to me, as is my client’s satisfaction. You can rely on me!

Am I available? I am pleased to provide painting and decorating services anywhere in the Bournemouth or Poole area including Holdenhurst, Kinson, Moordown, Pokesdown, Southbourne, Wallisdown, Westbourne, Wick, Winton, Christchurch, Highcliffe, Hurn, Mudeford, Winkton and Boscombe. If in doubt, call me!

So, if you want high quality painting and decorating work, complete reliability with an early availability, from a professional painter decorator, call (01202) 425047 and talk to my wife Christine Watson or myself Noel Watson for a free quote on redecorating your home.

I look forward to hearing from you! Call me on (01202) 425047.

Bye for now

In a total contrast to the last post, we spent a week over the summer in a beach hut in Mudeford, Do

In a total contrast to the last post, we spent a week over the summer in a beach hut in Mudeford, Dorset. These huts are generally the size of a large garden shed, tend to be painted in pastel blues and creams, and evoke a kind of fantasy lost childhood feeling. Two rows of huts, back to back, stretch out along a narrow peninsular for about half a mile. One side looks out onto Christchurch Harbour, the other onto the beach and faces the Channel and the Isle of Wight. There’s no traffic allowed; to reach the huts you have to travel by passenger ferry from Mudeford Quay, and carry all your belongings with you. It’s only a 5 minute trip, and the distance from the Quay to the nearest point of the peninsular is no more than 100 metres or so, but it all adds the the sense of adventure, and the sensation of being cut off from the rest of the mainland (despite the fact that actually you’re not). It’s like stepping back in time. Though I’m too young to know, what comes to mind is an impression of post-war communal optimism. A help-each-other-out spirit that may not have existed anywhere other than my recollections of old films, but despite, or probably because of, the rough and ready feel to the place (with or without the solar panels on most of the roofs), it’s an enormously comforting place to spend time. Children can run around free of the worry that they’ll be knocked down by a white van at any moment. Because there’s very little electricity there’s no television. No reality shows, no soaps and most important to me, no Disney Channel with it’s endless cycle of Hannah Montana and Zack & Cody. I think this is one of the things I like the most – the children just play the way they should – with their imaginations and their friends, and maybe this is why it evokes such nostalgia. Anyway – I know we’ll be back again next year.

Had relations over this weekend from abroad. They’ve not seen this part of the country and so

Had relations over this weekend from abroad.

They’ve not seen this part of the country and so we did the usual tour with them covering Burley, Mudeford, Lymington and a couple of beaches.

Took the opportunity of driving through some parts of the New Forest and taking a closer look at the wonderful luch acres and acres of purple / maroon heather.

I remember back in my London days when you’d see little old ladies hanging around tube stations trying to flog you a sprig of lucky heather for an extortionate price! Lucky heather? At a fiver a throw?

I see acres and acres of the wonderful colour from my train commute… and seeing it in the morning light (when I’m not too bleary eyed) with all the wildlife is just magnificent.

Sure as hell beats that M3 commute… that 200 mile round trip I did every day for a year. The only animals I’d see on the M3 were roadkill.

As I said, we took the relations on a wonderful tour around the area.

We’ve taken people around Burley many times already, although this time we checked out the cider place… and introduced the relations to scrumpy!

As I’ve mentioned before, I have a really low (and I mean “low”) tolerance to alcohol and.. well… I had to sample a little bit… Ended buying a couple of those big containers of the stuff… bad move… anyway… that’s another story

Anyway, in October, there’s an open day at the Burley cider place and as it’s my birthday around the time of the open day, I’m trying to negotiate with the Lady Wife for a trip there… that’s providing I can check out of “Ye Olde Rehabe For Local Yokels Who Can’t Take Their Scrumpy” beforehand.

We always love taking visitors and relations around the area… gives us a chance to leave the DIY and chores for another week or so and just enjoy the area. The sea… the countryside… taking photos… and of course… the scrumpy!

As I mentioned, we visited Lymington.

I love the part in Lymington where you enter the main part… turn a corner and there’s the marina… always brings out a “wow” from those who don’t know what’s around the corner. As usualt I took zillions of picces around Lymington. There’s just something about boats and yachts that I can’t get enough of.

Works going ok… had my initial 3 month position extended… an ok way to make ends meet while I job hunt at a slower pace.

In fact, life now is such a slower pace in general. I can feel it totally. It took some time but it’s working. Although my sleep pattern is screwed up from that year long of 4:30am wake-ups and being constantly overtired… it feels a lot better. Damn… that was the whole idea.

Talking about work, just the other day I realised that there were past colleagues at my last workplace who I haven’t even thought about even once since I left 5 months ago! The mind can play tricks at times… and at other times it’s a great healer

Scrumpy can help too

Oh… my sunflowers are doing brilliant too… and we’re waiting for a really big guy to spread his flower and greet the world. He’s gonna be a biggie!
