Late last night I was looking through Mod Cloth and found so many wonderful things so I need to put them all in a post so that they are no longer hundreds of open tabs on my browser! So here they are:

Two of the hamsters were fighting today so I had to separate them to individual cages. I got hamster blood on my hands, I was not impressed!

Myself and Ryan are off to Bluewater this evening, mostly to see Rick Stein and hopefully get a book signed in Waterstones, but also to do some shopping! I cant wait, it should be fun. I should actually be getting dressed but I’m eating left over pizza

Philosophy.

For the afternoon philosophers listening to Radio 4. For Coronation St. lovers. For Johnny Vegas. For Descartes.

A college and I are often lured towards random and beautiful objects and sometimes those objects are mugs.

Today as we were in search of this mug which is designed by Naoto Fukasawa we stumbled upon this very fine collection of beverage vessels.

I love some of these, the mug is such a beautiful object, the perfect product for exercising gentle, human centric ergonomics with a touch of simplism and a lashing or two of flair.

I’m working on my own mug concept on the back of various envelopes.

So you know I LOVE Napoleon HIll. I am working on my Thinking and Growing Rich. My goal is to manifest $480 million dollars in the next 4 years. The book says to name your price, so I named one I think would make me happy. Whatever it is. Name it. Named it. Claim it. Claiming it. Manifesting what I think.

Part of getting the money–the main part really for me is gaining my freedom. Freedom to do what I want to do from moment to moment. Feeling freedom now–what will it feel like–working at the things I LOVE to do–inventing, business, working out, personal coaching, helping people with weight loss, and this…manifesting their dreams.

I have experienced this already. Sure it sounds nuts, but it’s not really. I manifested a size 10 from a size 20 and have maintained it after seeing it in my head I made it happen. The book says this and I knew it before I read the book as I experienced it from time to time previously. You have to feel what it’s like. I felt what my smaller body was like.

I know it works. I’m now working on a size 6–ripped and lean for good.

Anyway…so far I’ve been manifesting good parking spaces. Not $480 million dollars. But it’s a start.

One of the things I got done last week was to create a series of product using my photo, Forest Sun Rays in the Snow #32. A snow covered branch creates an arch, with ferns hanging from its moss covered bark, across a tree lined path toward the summit of this hill in the woods of Rainier Oregon. Beyond the forest the sky shines crystal blue in the early morning light.

I don’t know about you, but once I find a company that stands for everything I believe in and offers amazing products, I like to brag about them.  I first heard about Larry’s beans through a good friend and one of the present owners of a coffee shop in Houghton, NY- Java101. They use Larry’s beans for their regular drip coffee and grind, tamp, and steam Larry’s Secret Espresso Blend for delicious lattes and cappuccinos.

Larry not only sells his beans wholesale to coffee shops around the nation, he also sells to household buyers and everyday consumers like myself.  There are lots of reasons I buy from Larry.  The three most basic reasons- all of their beans are fairly traded, organic, and they are an independent small business.  Larry was even a founding member of Cooperative Coffees (a group of independent coffee roasters who purchase beans directly from fair-trade co-ops).

Larry’s products are GREAT.  The beans are roasted to perfection, espresso rich and creamy, and there is a large variety of depth and flavor represented in the varying blends pleasing petty and powerful palates alike. They offer fun merchandise for purchasing including t-shirts, mugs, and ‘at-home barista supplies’.

Some more reasons to love Larry?

They have a ‘transparency policy’ in their coffee purchases which means that all documentation during the purchase of the bean is posted online.  You can track every single bag of beans back to the original farmer from which it was purchased and view the payments which took place during the change.

Larry also has a dedication to freshness.  The bag of beans you purchase online today are actually roasted after your purchase and then shipped as soon as finished.

Larry started this project called the Sustainability School- a website dedicated to teaching interested persons about local sustainability, alternative energy, globalization, water conservation, recycling, and all things fair-trade.  There are articles and links which provide lots of useful information for sustaining our world and improving our environment.

Along with the school, Larry has done a lot to make his business as ‘green’ as possible.  They transformed their ‘Bean Plant’ by using solar and wind power, harvesting their own rainwater, and delivering all of their local products in a crazy cool bus which runs on recycled vegetable oil (pictured below in a scan from this magnet they sent me along with my most recent coffee order)

Norwegian Forest Cat greeting card by catherinesherman  He’s the feline version of Erik the Red!  The Norwegian Forest Cat is the official cat of Norway, where it has lived for thousands of years.  The Norwegian Forest Cat traveled to North America with the Vikings in the 11th century, where their descendants developed into the Main Coon Cat.  Both cats are large-sized and well suited to the cold with heavywater-proof  fur, bushy tails and tufted ears and toes.  The Maine Coon Cat is the state cat of Maine.

Guilty as charged, I am a mug collector.  If you look inside my kitchen cupboard you will see a vast collection of mugs.  Some of them still kicking around from when I was in elementary school. Now that it is starting into the winter months, who does not love to curl up with a warm cup of hot chocolate?  And what could be better than getting a mug filled with little treats for Christmas?

If you are anything like me, you probably have a large variety of mugs crammed into your cupboards, each with its own story.  Maybe a mug that you got from work, one that your children decorated for you, one from when you were young, and then a couple chipped mugs somewhere in there.

This morning I had a smoothie for breakfast and drank it out of a nice, purple Disney mug.  The handle was completely broken off and there were a couple of chips around the edges.  Those mugs are my favourite because they have character, and usually the only reason that people are still holding on to them is because there is a story to go with it.  And well, I always love to hear a good story or too.

So the next time you are drinking out of a mug that is showing its wear, imagine the memories that its carrying and smile.  : )

“Comfort”

With it’s gentle curves, soft colours and handles made for tiny fingers, perhaps this is what your first coffee mug or tea cup looked like.

This painting is based off of my baby cup. Now I watch my daughter’s tiny fingers curl around the handles and I marvel a little to myself that this simple item is beginning its second of many lives.

I thought it was fitting to begin at the beginning for this series of cups.

I woke up extra early to try and finish up a project that I have been working on for a couple of days. It is a lovely zipper pouch that has a lot of ruffles and detail is completely hand-stitched and takes a lot of hand-eye coordination to get the stitching just right, I will post pics when I am at a better stopping point. Instead I find myself blogging and twittering while sipping my piping hot coffee extra light and sweet.

I wanted to share my lovely pearl beaded mugs from Pottery Barn that my husband and I got on sale -(yes, a major sale – like 50% off) at the Tanger outlets in Riverhead, NY. That was back in the day when we used to live with our parents on L.I. and we would escape out “to the country” ie. Riverhead, Mattituck, Aquebogue and go look at the horses, go wine tasting at Pindar Vineyards and eat lunch at Erik’s in Southhold. They have the best vegetable panini using veggies from local farms, oh and the seasoned fries are amazing too.

Oh yes, we also always made a stop to Love Lane in Mattituck where we always made sure to by some chocolate from the Love Lane Sweet Shoppe in the tiny town.

My husband and I share a lot of memories from Love Lane when we were first dating, heck we pretty much could have lived out there because we traveled the hour drive every weekend. Ahh I love the North Fork. We will be traveling back to LI for the holidays and plan to shop our hearts out on Black Friday, especially to buy a huge case of Sweet Scarlet from Pindar.. . so sweet, so indulgent.

I leave you with a picture of my little kitty, Mayberry who is almost two years old. We got her from PAWS in State College. She likes to drink coffee with me every AM.

I just got home from playing Coco Deville….  It was an event for some t-mobile shit…..  So what was in the giftbag????? Not a phone…….it was a mug. WTF?!?!? Awesome.  The crowd was ghetto for Coco……Lots of Eazy-E, Snoop Dogg, Fly Boys, and lets not forget a lil’ Ginuwine…..Pony got those girls gettin’ low…….Some chick puked in the back and at the end of the night the manager was walking around with a lost bra…….how does that happen.  People were stoked, singing along n’ shit.  My girl and I came up on some crucial iphone accessories…..

I just joined the Next Music Group Dj pool and they gave me a stack of cd’s to go through….. Looking forward to hearing new tunes and tell u whats what.

A woman was not born with a duster in one hand and a pan in the other, nor do we have “MUG” tattooed on our forehead just after the nurse gives us a good slap.

There will always be dust. Dont sweat it!

If you tidy up as you go along a weekly blitz will be easier HOWEVER….you are not there to tidy alone (unless you live on your own). Get others to do their bit. If they don’t do their fair share, don’t try to reason with them, it won’t work! Reasoning never works when it comes to housework.

What a busy time last week was! I had to take down an exhibition and organise the hanging of two others as well as judge and open an exhibition. As well. I confirmed an exhibition of my own cp work in Hobart next July and a two-day workshop there in February. I did mange however, to spend some time on my latest coloured pencil drawing which is yet to be titled.

Being 60 x 80 cm, it is rather large for this medium, but I need it to be this size in order to show the immense detail that will appear on the door and to set the mood inside the room.

I hope to finish the blocking – out early this coming week, but drawings of this size and complexity take time, so I must be patient!

You can see my “Cheshunt” mug sitting on the table. There’s a story here that I will tell once the drawing is completed.

I had a bit of a run in today with some of those criminally intent hoodlums the Daily Heil is always banging on about. Having worked with young people for many years now, I’m not really phased by groups of yoofs hanging around in parks with their staffies. Not all kids are something to fear, and these guys looked about 14 so I casually ambled past them with one ear phone in. A young girl jumped down from the monument they were all sat on and started following me. She shouted out to ask what type of dog I had but I ignored her and carried on listening to Q and Not U. I glanced over my shoulder and she was being followed by two other kiddies. At this point I felt my guts drop. Another glance and a kid about 4 inches shorter than me has caught me up and walking along side me.  She’s still shouting about the dog “What’s your dog? I like your dog. Can I stroke your dog?” I turned to her and told her the dog would bite her if she went near her. Then he looks at the phone in my hand and says “I like your phone, what is it?” My brain flips at this point. Stupidly, I looked him square in the face and said “Look, what the fuck do you want? If you don’t fuck off, I’ll shove this fucking lead down your fucking throat.” Way to diffuse the situation Heather, what excellent use of all that training you’ve had over the years. I turned my back on them and flounced off in the opposite direction. I carried on walking and once it was clear that my potty mouthed actions had actually worked, my legs went to jelly.  The dog was a total Judas as the whole thing was going on, too busy admiring squirrels.  I’m not sure they were going to mug me or not, possibly if my gut instinct was anything to go by. It was quite a poxy attempt at whatever it was. Have a photo of me all wintery like before that little fiasco.

To balance things out, I got home and had a visit from my brother and his kids. Callum who is about 18 months old now asked my what I had on my hand. I asked him if he meant my tattoo and he said yes so I explained what it was. I was then told it was poo. And I had poo on my face. And that there was a man in the garden and he has poo in his mouth. Brilliant! I hope they let him carry on talking like that forever. I’d be far more willing to spend time with children if they all talked like that.
