(AKI) – Tehran’s City Council has voted unanimously for a proposal to dedicate a street in the Iranian capital to slain Lebanese militant Imad Mughniyeh. Imad Mughniyeh was the intelligence chief and commander of Hezbollah’s secretive military wing, the Islamic Resistance. He was killed in a bombing in Syrian capital Damascus on 13 February 2008.

Hezbollah and Syria have blamed Israel for assassinating him and Hezbollah has repeatedly vowed dire revenge for the killing.

Imad Mughniyeh Street will replace ‘Baharan Street’ which means, spring. The naming of the street follows a stamp issued by Iran in March to commemorate Mughniyeh (photo), described as an ‘ambassador of the culture of martyrdom’ by former Iranian commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, Gen. Rahim Safavi.

In an interview with the Syrian newspaper al-Hakikah, quoted by Iran’s Fars News Agency, the senior Hizbullah man recounted the Damascus assassination.

“Mugniyah was one of the first people to leave the Iranian cultural center in Damascus’ Kfar Suseh neighborhood. He was there with a group of Hizbullah parliament members. After the blast occurred, several members of the same group took to the street to see what happened.

“One of the parliament members realized at once that Mugniyah was killed in the explosion. He immediately called Nasrallah and informed him of the incident. The Hizbullah leader demanded that the body be taken to Beirut immediately without the Syrian intelligence spotting it – and that’s what happened.”

Die Witwe aber beschuldigte nicht weniger eindeutig Syrien und sie tat das auf einer Pressekonferenz in Teheran, also mit Wissen und Billigung des iranischen Regimes.

Letzte Woche wies der iranische Zeigefinger auf Saudiarabien, wobei es ganz bestimmt reiner Zufall war, dass gerade eine Annaeherung zwischen Saudiarabien und Syrien versucht wurde:

Mit der heutigen Nachricht komme ich auf den Gedanken, dass Hisbollah selbst Mugniyeh “gesaeubert” hat. Sehr praktisch ist, wie sein Tod jederzeit jedem zur Last gelegt werden kann, dem Hisbollah und Iran gerade nicht ganz gruen sind.

Un attentat perpétré jeudi soir à Jérusalem-ouest, dans un institut d’études talmudiques du quartier de Kyriat Moshé, a fait huit tués et au moins 35 blessés, a indiqué un secouriste du Maguen David Adom, l’équivalent israélien de la Croix Rouge.

“Nous décomptons huit tués et au moins 35 blessés”, a affirmé à la radio de l’armée israélienne le responsable des services de secours, le Magen David Adom, Eli Bin. Trois des blessés sont dans un état grave, a-t-on indiqué de sources médicales.

Selon la police israélienne, les deux auteurs de l’attentat, dont l’identité n’était pas connue à ce stade, ont été tués lors d’un échange de tirs. Le premier a été tué dans l’établissement, le second ayant réussi à prendre la fuite, à se réfugier dans un immeuble voisin avant d’être tué par la police après une chasse à l’homme d’une demi-heure. Selon des sources policières, cet homme portait une ceinture d’explosifs, qui n’a pas été actionnée.

L’attentat s’est produit peu après 20h30 locales.

Selon les premiers éléments distillés par la police, par les services de secours et par des témoins, deux hommes sont entrés dans l’établissement et ont ouvert le feu dans toutes les directions, tuant et blessant les nombreux étudiants présents sur les lieux.

Des dizaines d’ambulances sont arrivées sur place pour évacuer les blessés vers les hôpitaux les plus proches. Un hélicoptère survolait la ville tandis que des forces de police sillonnaient la zone toutes sirènes hurlantes.

Les cellules d’Imad Moughnieh des Libérateurs de Galilée, une organisation terroriste peu connue, mais qui a déjà fait parler d’elle, ont revendiqué l’attentat perpétré “en riposte aux exactions d’Israël à Gaza et à l’élimination d’Imad Moughnieh”.

Les Comités de résistance populaire annoncent que cet attentat n’est que le premier d’une série destinée à ”faire quitter aux Israéliens la Palestine s’ils veulent trouver la sécurité”.

Moughniyah was implicated in the 1983 bombings of the U.S. embassy and U.S. Marine and French peacekeeping barracks in Beirut, which killed over 350 people, as well as the kidnapping of Westerners in Lebanon in the 1980s.
Israel accuses Moughniyah of planning the 1994 bombing of a Jewish centre in Buenos Aires that killed 85 people and of involvement in a 1992 bombing of the Israeli embassy in the Argentine capital that killed 28.
The United States indicted him for his role in planning and participating in the June 14, 1985, hijacking of a U.S. TWA airliner and the killing of an American passenger.
“The world is a better place without this man in it. He was a cold-blooded killer, a mass-murderer and a terrorist responsible for countless innocent lives lost,” State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said.
“One way or another he was brought to justice,” he said.
Iran blamed Israel for his assassination. Syria described it as a “terrorist attack”.
Several Palestinian and Lebanese allies of Hezbollah called on the group to avenge Moughniyah’s death. Hezbollah has only said its conflict with Israel was “a very long one”.
Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of the group that has a strong political and military force in Lebanon, will address the crowd at the funeral via a video link.
On Wednesday, Moughniyah’s coffin, draped in a Hezbollah flag and flanked by four men in military uniform, was laid in a hall where his family and the group’s leaders received condolences.
Moughniyah is thought to have been commander of Islamic Jihad, a shadowy pro-Iranian group which emerged in Lebanon in the early 1980s and was believed to be linked to Hezbollah.
Islamic Jihad kidnapped several Western hostages, including Americans, in Beirut in the mid 1980s. The group killed some of its captives and exchanged others for U.S. weapons to Iran in what was later known as the Iran-Contra scandal. Among those killed was the CIA’s station chief.
Moughniyah’s brother was killed in a car bomb in Beirut in 1994. Reports at the time suggested Imad had been the target.
