Here is a question am asked 97% of the time when i talk about this business to anyone, and am sure most of you will recognize it, the question am asked is,”So, how may people do you have under you?” People, this is the wrong question to ask anyone introducing you to the business. Let me explain.

There are 3 types of people who are in this business. There are those running on faith, i.e they have just joined the business and believe in the company though they have not earned anything yet. You can tell these people apart because most times these people market the the products they bought and where satisfied with but do not market the business. So do not expect to get an answer to that question from them.

The second type are those people who get their commissions and believe that the company is true to its word. You can tell this people apart because they will tell you less about the products and tell you more about the compensation plan(commissions). However they will tell you more about the products if you ask them. But still do not expect an answer to that question from them as well.

Then the third type of people in this business are those that has been in the business for so long and they have earned in excess. You can tell these people apart because they will only talk about the compensation plan. They will not bother telling you about the products only that it costs less to join the company than to actually start your own business and when asked this question, they will either skip the question or end the discussion because in their eyes you are wasting their time.

Now that you understand the different types of people in the business, here is why you will NEVER get a straight answer from any of these people including me. The answer is quite simple really, we will not tell you how many people we have below us because we know that in your minds, the number of downline we have relates to how much effort we put into this business. That is wrong on so may levels. You may find someone who has only six people below him, but because that person markets the vacation package, the package with most points offered by Questnet, they earn close a 1000$ a week. But of course you the prospect won’t know that, because that person will not and may never tell you how they run their business.

Here is the right question to ask ,”How long did it take you to earn your first commission?” Personally, it took me three months of talking to every Tom, Dick and Harry to get that first commission of 250$. However i know of people who took less than a month to earn more. Here is why the answers vary from person to person. It has to do with the LEVEL OF INFLUENCE that person has over others. There are people who just have to say that the company is great and people will follow them. Then there are those that take longer to do just that. I happen to fall to the later group of people. My influence over others is not as high as i would have hoped but that does not stop me from pursuing my dreams. It just means that i’ll have to work longer to achieve them. The beauty of working with Questnet is that this level of work is cut down in half after you build a team of people who have the same dreams as you.  Soon i won’t be recruiting people to join my team, i will be teaching and helping my team mates grow their own teams, as that is one of the main reasons i joined Questnet in the first place.

So, next time, as you ask the question,”How long did it take you to earn your first commission?”, ask your self this as well,”How strong is my influence over others”, because that determines how fast you will earn commissions from Questnet. If your influence is high and you love the products and you want to earn an extra income, then join as soon as you can. If your influence is low, do not worry, find the person you trust in this business and believe that they have your best interest at heart and join under them. Work with them because they will teach you all you need to know to succeed.

The two types of schemes talked about in the reports online that I have read are multi-level marketing (MLM) and the pyramid marketing.

Upon purchasing a product or service from the parent company, the consumer becomes an independent salesperson / distributor representing the parent company and is rewarded a commission relative to the volume of product sold through each of their independent businesses. Independent distributors develop their businesses by either building an active customer base, who buy direct from the parent company and / or by recruiting a downline of independent distributors who also build their own customer base, expanding the overall business (organizations). Additionally, distributors can also earn a profit by retailing products which they purchased from the parent company at wholesale price. Here then distributors earn commissions based on sales efforts of their business, which includes their independent sale efforts as well as the leveraged sales efforts of their downline. This arrangement is similar to franchise arrangements where royalties are paid from the sales of individual franchise operations to the franchise or as well as to an area or region manager. In that case there can be multiple levels of people receiving royalties from one person’s sales.

Commissions

Commissions are paid according to the company’s compensation plans. Some of these plans include the following;
Stairstep breakaway plans: This type of plan is characterized as having representatives who are responsible for both personal and group sales volumes. Volume is created by recruiting and retailing products and services. Various discounts or rebates may be paid to group leaders and a group leader can be any representative with one or more downline recruits. Once predefined personal and/or group volumes are achieved, a representative moves up a step. This continues until the representative ‘breaks away’ from their upline. From that point on, the new group is no longer considered part of the representative’s upline’s group – hence they are a ‘break away’. These types of plans are not level based.

• Unilevel plans: It is often considered the simplest of compensation plans. These pay commissions primarily based on the number of levels a recipient is from the original representative who is purchasing the product. Commissions are not based on title or rank achieved. By qualifying with the minimum sales requirement, representatives earn unlimited commissions on a limited number of levels of downline recruited representatives.

• Matrix plans: It is similar to a Unilevel plan, except that there is a limited number of representatives who can be placed on the first level. Recruits beyond the maximum number of first level positions allowed are automatically placed in other downline (lower level) positions. These types of plans often have a maximum width and depth. When all positions in a representative’s downline matrix are filled (maximum width and depth is reached for all participants in a matrix), a new matrix may be started. Like Unilevel plans, representatives earn unlimited commissions on limited levels of volume with minimal sales quotas.

• Binary plans: A binary plan is a multilevel marketing compensation plan which allows distributors to have only two front-line distributors. If a distributor sponsors more than two distributors, the excess are placed at levels below the sponsoring distributor’s front-line. This ‘spillover’ is one of the most attractive features to new distributors since they need only sponsor two distributors to participate in the compensation plan. The primary limitation is that distributors must ‘balance’ their two downline legs to receive commissions.

• Hybrid plans: These plans offer a combination of compensation plans, usually Binary and Unilevel.

Now that we all understand the differences between the two types of schemes, Pyramid and MLM, it’s time to fully understand how MLM works. There are six basic methods of moving a product in our economy today. These include;

• Retailing: Where you go into the shop and buy something.
• Direct sales.
• Multilevel Marketing: Also known a network marketing
• Mail Order: This can be an MLM but is mostly included in the direct sales category.
• Pyramid sales.
• Affiliate Marketing.
  

Most reputable MLM companies belong to the Direct Selling Association, and is for that reason confused with direct sales programs of marketing because our first encounter with MLM was when a distributor knocked on our door or even called you up to sell us something.

Features of MLM

There are some features that differentiate MLM from Retail and Direct sales companies and one significant difference is that in MLM you are in business for yourself but not by yourself. Being in business for yourself means that you are buying the products wholesale from the company you are representing, which means that you can use them for your own consumption at wholesale prices. Since you are buying products wholesale, you can, if you wish, sell these products at retail and make a profit. The most common misunderstanding about MLM (multilevel marketing) is that you have to sell retail to be successful. You may sell if you want to, but in regard to making the larger sums of income, the real success is in building your business/organization. Please remember that in MLM, you don’t have to ‘sell’ your products in the traditional sense of the word, but the product has to move or nobody gets paid.

When you build your business, you are actually building a network through which to channel the products and services offered by the company. Sales therefore in MLM or network marketing therefore come from distributors sharing with their friends and family. They never have to talk to strangers. Thus network marketing is the act of building a business in which a lot of distributors all retail a little.

Another feature of this type of marketing is the act of sponsoring other distributors. This is called recruiting. When you sponsor someone, you are basically making a commitment to teach them how to do what you are doing, thus helping them build a business of their own. This act of sponsoring is what Multilevel Marketing so different and makes it grow. As your business grows, you are building toward becoming an independent successful business person. You are your own boss.

Also, in almost all the MLM programs you can move to another area of the country and sponsor people without losing the volume generated by the group you left behind. This makes MLM a truly global business since you don’t need to start building the business afresh when you leave an area. In MLM programs therefore you can make a lot of money by building your business/organization as your primary function.

A Multilevel Marketing organization is not a pyramid scheme. The pyramid scheme is built from the top down and only those in at the very beginning can ever be near the top. And the prices of the products or services get higher and higher after every step, leaving the people at the bottom broke because joining would be more expensive. In the MLM marketing, everybody starts at the bottom and has the opportunity to build a large organization, even larger that his or her sponsor’s organization if they want.

In conclusion therefore, Multilevel Marketing is the solution to lowering the distribution costs of most companies because there are no more channels between the producer and the customer and the most part of the benefits can be paid to the distributors.
