In the 1400’s a law was set forth in England that a man was allowed to beat his wife with a stick no thicker than his thumb. Hence we have ‘the rule of thumb’.

——————————————-

Many years ago in Scotland, a new game was invented. It was ruled ‘Gentlemen Only….Ladies Forbidden’…and thus the word GOLF entered into the English language.

——————————————-

The first couple to be shown in bed together on prime time TV were Fred and Wilma Flintstone.

Men can read smaller print than women can; women can hear better.

If a statue in the park of a person on a horse has both front legs in the air, the person died in battle. If the horse has one front leg in the air the person died as a result of wounds received in battle. If the horse has all four legs on the ground, the person died of natural causes.

——————————————-

Q. Most boat owners name their boats. What is the most popular boat name requested?

A. Obsession

——————————————–

Q. If you were to spell out numbers, how far would you have to go until you would find the letter ‘A’?

A. One thousand

——————————————–

Q. What do bulletproof vests, fire escapes, windshield wipers, and laser printers all have in common?

A. All were invented by women.

——————————————–

Q. What is the only food that doesn’t spoil?

A. Honey

——————————————–

In Shakespeare’s time, mattresses were secured on bed frames by ropes. When you pulled on the ropes the mattress tightened, making the bed firmer to sleep on. Hence the phrase……… ‘Goodnight, sleep tight.’

——————————————–

It was the accepted practice in Babylon 4,000 years ago that for a month after the wedding, the bride’s father would supply his son-in-law with all the mead he could drink. Mead is a honey beer and because their calendar was lunar based, this period was called the honey month, which we know today as the honeymoon.

——————————————–

In English pubs, ale is ordered by pints and quarts… So in old England, when customers got unruly, the bartender would yell at them ‘Mind your pints and quarts, and settle down.’ It’s where we get the phrase ‘mind your P’s and Q’s’

——————————————–

Many years ago in England, pub frequenters had a whistle baked into the rim, or handle, of their ceramic cups. When they needed a refill, they used the whistle to get some service. ‘Wet your whistle’ is the phrase inspired by this practice.

——————————————–

At least 75% of people who read this will try to lick their elbow!

Westby’s Art Gallery’s current exhibition entitled, “CROSSROADS: Determining the Authentic Visual Voice,” is a look at authenticity in art emphasized by the artist’s use of found or common objects to create an entirely new work out of the original object through mechanisms like multiplication.

According to Gallery and Exhibitions Program Director, Mary Salvante, the exhibition was a collaboration with The Philadelphia Sculptors. The artists whose work is present in the exhibition include Maria Anasazi, Tom Bendtsen, Catherine Martens Betz, Brent Crothers, Ted Prescott and Warren Holzman.

Anasazi's "Tell Me More Stories". (Photo by Josh Gager)

Maria Anasazi’s work, “Tell Me More Stories” is a child-size white bed frame wrapped in a quilt made up of old fairy tale pages. Anasazi uses objects found from yard sales and thrift shops, objects which no longer hold any value to their owners.

In making this piece, Anasazi found inspiration from children’s stories and fairy tales from studying children’s literature in graduate school. It had an impact on her, explained Salvante, because as a child growing up in Greece, Anasazi was from a very poor family.

“They had no books. I suppose the books she did have access to were either in school or a library but she felt that she missed out on this whole time of growing up, when fairy tales are a very important part of a child’s way to be able to make sense of the world,” said Salvante.

Bendtsen's "Conversation #3". (Photo by Josh Gager)

“Conversation 3” is a piece made up of almost 4,000 books that are strategically piled up to the ceiling into the shape of a nuclear power plant, the side of which displays a pixellated nature scene. The piece, created by Tom Bendtsen, a professor of sculpture at Rowan, conveys how nuclear power plants have become a part of our landscape and this work shows their contrast to nature in the sense that they’re a threat to nature. The entire work took over 50 hours to rebuild.

Bendstein originally began arranging the books by topic ten years ago, when he was struck with the idea to play with colors.

“I kind of liked how the random subjects and topics were placed in relation to each other when I chose color, rather than indexing it in terms of subject, like Greek mythology beside western philosophy. When I threw them into color relations, you get kind of awkward and strange connections between titles,” explained Bendstein.

Catherine Marten Betz showcased two works at the exhibition. Her first piece, “e,” is a massive group of matchbooks arranged in concentric circles, piled over each other smaller and smaller until they form a dome. Her other work, “Vacant” is a large circle of keys held together by rope.

Betz's "Vacant" (Photo by Josh Gager)

Betz, originally from New Orleans, said that the keys used in “Vacant” were symbolic to all the homes that were lost after Hurricane Katrina hit the region in 2005. None of the keys were actually in use; they were all miscut and are actually the same key, duplicated, which is why the contour of the teeth is the same on each key.

“e” is representative of the Superdome which at the time, was given the nickname “Dante’s Inferno,” hence the matches.

Even though both works have historical significance, Betz herself works solely with multiples, whether it’s multiples of things she makes, finds or buys.

Betz's "e" (Photo by Josh Gager)

“It always is about the structure and the function of that object, and I try to exploit the function of that object,” said Betz.

Betz explained that although she does consider her work as a commentary on the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, she does not feel that her audience needs the back-story to appreciate her work.

“It’s about a beautiful object that’s multiplied and it changes that initial object into something different by multiplying it so many times. So it’s about changing the object. It just started from a back-story,” said Betz.

Brent Crothers showcased two works which incorporate found objects. “Synergy” was made from recycled copper pipes and “Water Wars #2,” comprised of used garden hoses and transformed them into an oval, egg-like shape. The two pieces are a part of a series called “Water Wars,” which is a commentary on our overuse of fresh water and the lack of fresh water to be used in the future.

Crothers' "Water Wars #2" (Photo by Josh Gager)

“These are all part of a series I’m doing on questioning our use and not taking care of freshwater, because that’s what the real wars are going to be about, and not about oil because you can’t drink . So that’s kind of the energy behind it,” explained Crothers.

The hoses from “Water Wars #2” are held together with nothing more than simple knots and the occasional stainless steel screw to stick them in place. The recycled copper pipe used in “Synergy” is held together in a similar fashion, and the actual copper pipe is soddered.

Crothers' "Synergy" (Photo by Josh Gager)

The two works were created over the course of five years, at a time when the artist had serious health issues. Both pieces were things that Crothers could do a little bit at a time when he had some physical energy.

Holzman’s “Culturally Relevant Identity Object." (Photo by Josh Gager)

Warren Holzman’s work was “Culturally Relevant Identity Object,” an object which is characteristic of a tank made from aluminum, steel and wood.

According to Salvante, Holzman was very interested in mechanical objects, the mechanical age, and metalworking. He takes a very sterile, static kind of object and humanizes it in a way by bringing out the whimsical, playful qualities of objects.

“In this case, he’s taking a shape that is reminiscent of a tank but by softening the edges, making them more egg-like, more playful, what we’re left with is this very sort of larger than life pull toy that is a very accessible and no longer has the characteristics of a tank, which just suggests war and violence and those kinds of ideas,” said Salvante.

Ted Prescott’s work, “Dirty Thought” was an apple branch with oil pigment, suspended onto the wall of the exhibit in a very poetic kind of three-dimensional line which is made more dramatic by the stark shadow cast on the wall by the light.

Prescott's "Dirty Thought". (Photo by Josh Gager)

The use of the color yellow was an integral part of the piece for the artist.

“He felt a passion…feeling that yellow is a spiritual color and felt it was appropriate to use on his apple branch. That’s essentially his motivation for this piece,” said Salvante.

At the end of the opening reception, Salvante spoke to the crowd, explaining that when we think of an authentic visual voice in terms of the theme of this show, the discussion is really about ownership.

“Ownership of a concept, ownership of materials, to the extent where artists are taking pre-existing material, objects, materials and having redefined idea when one confronts them to create something new and something different out of them once the artist has a hand on them,” said Salvante.

“CROSSROADS: Determining the Authentic Visual Voice,” is free and open to the public on Monday to Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturday from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The exhibit will be on display until March 12.

The is the easiest way to times any number by five.

All you have to do is divide the number by two.

???

How does that work?

Basically it’s because 5 = 10 /2 and you know how easy it is to multiply a number by ten, you simply add a zero on the right.

So this method is a shorthand way of multiplying a number ten and then dividing it by two.

The key things to remember are;

1. Start on the left

2. Divide the first number by two and ignore any fractions

3. Go to the next number on the right and divide it by two. If the previous number was odd, add five to this answer.

4. Repeat until you write down the answer to that last number.

5. Once you get to the end, if the number is even write zero and if it is odd write five.

This is also a good one for working out the answer in your head and you should practice it once you get proficient at doing on paper.

Why are we starting another campus?

Do we really have to change our name?

Will people really want to see the message on video?

Who is going to be the site pastor?

Are you going to Toledo Pastor Nate? (yes and no)

Is there worship there?

Who is going to be the worship leaders?

Is the coffee free?

Where in Toledo? (not sure, God is going to open a door).

When is this going to happen?

Are you going to grow a mullet for real?

How are we going to start another campus?

How can I be involved in the vision?

I will be answering these questions on Sunday, and I think you know the answer to the mullet question.

It depends on the individual classroom schedule. I recommend to meet with each group at least two t

It depends on the individual classroom schedule. I recommend to meet with each group at least two to three times a week. I would meet with the lowest performing groups more often than the highest performing ones (See below for a sample schedule).

In a Math Workshop Classroom, there is always a mini-lesson done with the whole group. The children then either go to their tables to work with math centers (which are portable containers) or they go to work in a Guided Math Group. In this particular model, the children will do 2 different centers. They will do one center and then after a signal, their table monitors will switch with their centers with a different table and they will do the new center.

One of the centers, is a scheduled Guided Math Group. This schedule is based on a 75 minute math block. If the math block is shorter, the teacher might only do guided reading twice a week with the lowest groups and once a week with the medium and high groups, because s/he must allot time for conferencing, observations and interviews.

The last section of everyday is devoted to 5-7 minutes of fact power practice. This is a number of the day type activity, where the children work flexibly with a number trying to add it, subtract it, make it into money and discuss it in a variety of way are problems on the boards. After fact power practice, the teacher then gathers the children together for Share time.

Here is an example from a 3rd grade classroom in the middle of a multiplication unit.

In today’s Programming Praxis we have to implement binary algorithms for multiplying, dividing

In today’s Programming Praxis we have to implement binary algorithms for multiplying, dividing, and finding the greatest common divisor of two numbers. Let’s get started.

Since all our functions require the Bits typeclass, for which Haskell doesn’t do type defaulting, we use the following language pragma so we don’t have to specify types in the tests.

{-# LANGUAGE ExtendedDefaultRules #-}

We need an import to do bitshifting.

import Data.Bits

And because we’re going to be doing quite a bit of it, two quick convenience convenience functions for doubling and halving numbers:

left, right :: Bits a => a -> a
left = flip shiftL 1
right = flip shiftR 1

Binary multiplication. Piece of cake.

binmult :: (Bits a, Integral a) => a -> a -> a
binmult 1 b = b
binmult a b = binmult (right a) (left b) + if odd a then b else 0

Binary division. By using the until function we don’t have use explicit recursion to find t.

bindiv :: (Bits a, Ord a) => a -> a -> (a, a)

Binary gcd. A lot of different conditions, but all very straightforward.

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Yes, the growing season has been enjoyable, relaxing and invigorating. Well fall is fast approaching. So what makes a good herb gardeners, Right About Now?

This is the moment they enter into action, the crops of grass, they will receive for the winter – and transplant those who keep them next year.

Multiplication of new plants

After the successful cultivation of herbs throughout the summer, you're ready, newPlants. There are three methods that you can do: · division of the roots of existing plants cuttings · of herbs in treating garden · or stratification.

Root Division

This is a simple approach for building more plants. With a spade or shovel to work the grass roots of a band of bulk density increases. Take advantage of this group from the ground and separate the plant from the root. Want to do betterattention.

Once disconnected, it can be planted in one of the factions back to the original place and insert the new group could be elsewhere.

Herbs from cuttings

Whether in spring or autumn, a long, Woody shoot from the plant of your choice. Cut out the fire in a corner near the ground. First, remove the leaves from the bottom of this cutting-edge field. Coat cut with a rooting powder and then into a pot of soil mix light. Water well and you should now have a newPlant early.

Herbs stratification

This could be a new method for you. It calls for a plant to divide and form a new plant. Herbal grow through new layers to bend a long shot Woody in half and bury the center of the stem a few inches below ground. Keep it with a stone if necessary. Within a month to six weeks, cutting, or cured-in his own stem cells developed root system and is ready to be transplanted.

Collection andGrade Herbs

Growing herbs is only part of the fun your herb garden. Another aspect of the herb garden, enjoy a lot of people is the collection and preservation of the plants when the growing season ends.

Gardeners various herbs are required to have different ideas about how best to raise these crops. The great botanist and a 12th century nun, Hildegard von Bingen, firmly believed that all medicinal plants should be harvested when the moonGrowing up, shortly before it was always full. Erbe at this time, he believed, was their greatest strength. However, they acknowledged that the herbs would be granted for a longer period if it was collected during the waning moon.

Many others believe that the plants must be collected only at full moon. This is the time to fight when the sap of plants and the power of their oil is greater.

DuringYou can test these ideas "old wive stories," it is true that time seems to play a role in the collection efficiency of the herbs.

Herbal medicines whose ingredients have found their roots and rhizomes – such as ginger, ginseng, and Mandrake, for example – are strongest when it is collected in early spring or late autumn. During this time they actually have reserved most of their energy and essence of the earth.

When you use thisSpecies of herbs, often dig around the plants, not cut or damage the root system. They are completely dry the roots with cold water and washing.

It is also true that the essence of a plant is concentrated with each successive night. The herbs are then stronger when dispersed in the early hours of the morning before the sun's heat and light for essential oils in these crops.

Almost all herbs should be harvested before Bloom. The active ingredients of medicinal plants lose their effectiveness after the process of flowering. You've just spent most of their energy to produce flowers and seeds.

If you harvest the herbs, you must use the Clippers strong cut, so as not to break the stems. If you do not produce, cut too low on the stem, you will notice that (herbs), basil growing, especially for the harvest.

You can plant the seeds of some of the collection> Herbs in your garden. Select to go to specific plants, seeds. If the seeds to mature, instead of a paper bag over the flower and tie closed. When the seeds mature, snip the flower and turn the bag over. Just shake it to collect the seeds in the package.

Preserving Your Herb

Now that you have gathered the herbs, you want to go as long as possible by drying. In other times it was customary to simply put the herbs in a warm, dry, shaded area and wait until they fall apart easily, before being stored in different containers. The roots were washed, Split and then develops into a single layer on a tray clean.

This traditional method requires time and space. It takes days or weeks to dry the leaves, stems and flowers. The roots can dry up to a month or more complete.

When drying herbs for medicinal and healing, time is literally the essence. The faster the herbs aredried, the strongest of aromatic volatile oils in herbs. That is to say, because most commercial producers use of herbs, special equipment for drying herbs.

To speed up the process, herb gardeners now put the herbs in a pan and bake at 95 degrees. This method is convenient and inexpensive, but also has some disadvantages. One, when it's hot you do not want your oven. Addition, the oven does not heat upEvening.

These problems can not be disturbed, but if they do, consider buying a small production dryer. This is a tabletop device with built-in drawers using a heat gun to dry the herbs. The beauty of the production with a dryer, you can dry many different crops.

The drying process is just the beginning

You can store dried herbs, or reduction to a powder. For some, this is the most convenient.

Atraditional method is with a mortar and pestle. In this way provides an interesting link handy and get your herbs in the past. You can also grind your herbs in a coffee grinder. If you have the aroma of coffee mixed with herbs, a purchase just for this purpose – they are pretty cheap worried for ten dollars.

For the gardener, the large amount of herbs, a large mill is to be informed.

Save

Take a shortWatching a bottle of herbs and spices in a store and you will see that clearly in containers. This is likely to leave, you will see the herbs or spices, when you buy, but not the best way to store herbs. Why? Light, the Giver of life to these plants so long, it is also the destroyer of power and taste, when the herbs are dry.

Instead, keep your dried herbs in opaque containers – glass or ceramic are best. Fill the container to limit the upsideAmount of oxygen in them. Attention herbs such as sage, rosemary and thyme are kept, in fact, remain strong for a year or more. Expect the herbs that do not respect much of a scent that last even longer, such as alfalfa.

Humidity Kills

Moisture is the enemy of your dried herbs. If they want to happen, when it was wet dry, dry again soon to prevent growth of mold. They also want to be careful to keep insectsKeep container tightly closed when not actively using your herbs.

Freezing fresh herbs

So far we discussed dry herbs for later use, especially if they are used for medicinal purposes. But if you store the herbs for the kitchen, there is no reason why you can not freeze them. You can then drag them into the month of February with a soup. Just cut the stems and leaves of herbs and rinse. Pat dry and thenthey freeze in resealable bags.

Herbs conservation can relax and enjoy activities with family, friends or by you. And now, for the rest of you can enjoy tea, culinary and medicinal herbs.

Are not you glad you have with your herb garden? From basil to thyme, sage and chives, every plant has its own special interests, special qualities and its specialties growing on the kitchen table and for the healing of yourBody.

There is always something to learn. Do not be discouraged if some of your plants fell this year. Happens from time to time with any type of gardening. A flower or plant certain functions, will not move out. Sometimes we want to know why, if they had a very rainy summer, or do not have enough drainage. Could be the ground for a type of plant, but another big. If you learn why a plant does not grow well, I think it is increasingly in aAnother place where you can treat the soil or in a pot.

It is likely that you had a lot of successful herbal and learned a lot about individual plants. How to grow plants from year to year, you can also learn about their many uses benefits.

Happy Gardening!

HOW TO MULTIPLY YOUR WORK FOR THE LORD

Here are four (4) time tested and proven methods for multiplying your outreach for the LORD. How your synagogue or church can reach the WHOLE world for Messiah:

1. Train others – The ‘Ringstrake’ Principle.

2. Use the Media.

3. Have a ‘distribution point’.

4. Pray for ‘an anointing of multiplication’.

TRAIN OTHERS

Re-study How To Win The World For Messiah. Go over (review) the Seven Keys. Never forget them. It is one thing to KNOW something powerful; but it is another thing to USE the knowledge. Wisdom is “knowledge in action”! The Seven Keys should be used every day!

Whether your ministry is that of an apostle, prophet, evangelist, pastor, teacher, or Christian worker… Yeshua said: “teach (disciple) all nations”. If you closely follow Jesus through the Gospels, you will be convinced that there should be a “school by every bush”! Find some people to teach, and start teaching; then multiply what you’re doing by using the Seven Keys.

Now… get ready to learn something NEW: The ‘Ringstrake’ Principle. It works powerfully! Stated simply, the ‘Ringstrake’ Principle says this: “whatever the people you disciple SEE you do for God, THEY WILL DO.

If the people you train see you preaching in the open-air like the Apostles in the early church, then they will know to do the same. They will also KNOW they CAN do the same! If the people you train see you praying for the crippled and SEE arms or legs growing, they will KNOW to do the same; they will also KNOW they CAN do the same!

Study Genesis Chapter 30, verses 25-43. The people you train will CONCEIVE in their minds – a vision will be “birthed” – as they SEE Christ work through you. This is why it is good to spend time with the people you are training, as the Spirit leads.

USE THE MEDIA

Study the following teaching at the realmiracles website, Using The Media To Preach Messiah. Let God multiply His work through you through the use of literature, tapes, videos, websites, comics, and any other form of media that can be used by the Holy Spirit. Remember, the media is to be used to “teach all nations;” it should reflect and magnify Christ… not man!

HAVE A ‘DISTRIBUTION POINT’

You need:

1. A base of operations.

2. A place where people can contact you.

3. A place from where you can distribute, ship, or disseminate the Word of God in the various forms of media you will produce.

These three may or may not be at the same place. In this Lesson Plan we will only discuss #3: a distribution point.

You need to have a ‘distribution point’ (or an address) that people can depend on – and that YOU can depend on! It should be permanent, unless God changes it. This is your link to millions of people (and possibly, in the next ten years, to billions). Millions of people and multitudes of nations are “hanging” in the balance depending upon the decisions you make and the Word of God you ship or mail to them every day!

Your distribution point does not have to be elaborate or expensive, but it should be efficient and practical. You have a serious calling from God and you must be a good steward!

“Who then is faithful and wise servant, whom his lord has made ruler over his household, to give them meat [strong Word, not milk] in due season.” “Blessed is that servant, who when his lord comes, shall find so doing.” [Matthew 24:45]

PRAY FOR ‘AN ANOINTING OF MULTIPLICATION’

Lay hands on and pray over EVERYTHING and EVERYONE you send out: Ministers and workers; literature; tapes; films; prayer cloths. Ask God to put His power on them. Ask God for the “apostolic power of Christ” to invade the earth through them. Pray for MIRACLES to magnify Christ.

Pray for people to be saved, healed, delivered, baptized in the Spirit, prospered, and sent out to do the work of Messiah. Ask God to raise up a great Holy Ghost church in every village and neighborhood of the earth … and a great Holy Ghost witness in every house, home, or family of the earth through the WORK and the PEOPLE you send out! Believe!!

Thirty (30) years ago Apostle Prince Handley asked God for a confirmation about a piece of literature he had written and was to be sending out. It was Lesson Four, How to Receive The Power of God, in the Bible Studies course. He wanted God to show him if he should include this lesson in the series and received three (3) confirmations within about one week.

The very first person who received that lesson was baptized in the Holy Spirit the day they received it in the mail. Then a Jewish man wrote from New York and said, “You wouldn’t believe what came out of my mouth when Jesus baptized me in the Holy Spirit” (as a result of the lesson). Thirdly, a man wrote saying that as soon as he took his lesson out of the envelope he read one sentence and was knocked down by a strange force and another language came out of his mouth!

“Believe! All things are possible to him that believes.” [Mark 9:23]

If you are not available to lay hands on the materials – or the people – then commission others to do it. Lay your hands on them and pray over them so the apostolic power of Christ will flow through them. At times, when Apostle Handley has not been able to be present for an ordination service in a distant place, God would instruct him to send a prayer cloth over which he had prayed, and to have the prayer cloth laid on the minister.

If the Holy Spirit can supply the resurrection power of Messiah to heal in this manner (Acts 19:11-12), then He surely can impart the gifts of the Spirit and enablement for ministry in the same manner. These should be “special” cases, however, because the normal Scriptural pattern would be to personally lay hands on those being ordained and sent out.

Ask God for ‘an anointing of multiplication’! The kingdom of Heaven is like leaven (or, yeast): it grows and spreads. Jesus still multiplies bread, and He can multiply the work, the workers, and the Word of God!

Decide which one you better understand? Here if u think u understand it better by words, you are making a big mistake. You will find it difficult when there are many parameters to include and much more operations to perform.

Ok. Can you notice a confusion in above expression in words. You can write the expression also like this

Multiply ‘a’ and ‘b’, have it as ‘product1′
Divide ‘product2′ by ‘e’, have it as ‘factor1′
Add ‘product1′ with ‘factor1′

so which one is correct? these two expressions will gives u different results. here comes the precedence of operators, which is much more difficult when describing the operations with words.

4

+ -

Addition and subtraction

Table 2 : Order of precedence

Order of precedence is nothing but prioritizing the operators. giving privilege to operators. braces get higher priority, followed by multiplication and division symbols and then addition and subtraction symbols. Consider following expression

a + b x c / d

Here you must do highest priority operations first. That is you can multiply ‘b’ with ‘c’ or divide ‘c’ by ‘d’, because multiplication and division gets equal priority, and then only you must perform addition of ‘a’ with the previous result.

Now you may have very well understood why symbols and signs is better than just words. There may be some other reasons for symbols over words. I don’t know that for now. Will update once I come across it. I think this two points got enough advantages.

When camels come, they come not single spies but in battalions

A town in Australia’s Northern Territory has been besieged by legions of thirsty camels, The Times reports.

Residents of Docker River, NT, are even now trembling in their homes as a thundering herd of feral dromedaries lays waste to their town in search of liquid sustenance.

Townsfolk first noticed the vanguard of the humpbacked horde in October, as a few desperate dromedaries sought respite from Australia’s endless drought. As the weeks wore on, the thirsty beasts gradually swelled in number, cracking open fire hydrants and moisture condensers in an attempt to slake their burning thirst.

“Some people are opening their windows and all they see is camels,” Graham Taylor, chief executive of the MacDonnell Shire Council, told The Times.

Taylor has secured emergency funding from Northern Territory’s local government to hire helicopter-borne marksmen in an effort to exterminate the marauders from the air.

However, reports have emeged that a division of camels has seized control of the local airport, “causing problems with medical evacuations.”

“More and more keep arriving! The numbers are building daily!” Taylor screamed into a shortwave radio, moments before he was replaced by the sinister hiss of static.

Camels were introduced to the antipodes in the mid-nineteenth century in an attempt to tame the arid interior. Having lately cast off the shackles of human bondage, the creatures have successfully established a feral population that is estimated to exceed a million in number.

Through wanton environmental destructiveness, they have earned themselves an A$19m price on their heads. But if this month’s developments are any guide, the Australian federal government has had its work cut out.

It is very easy to multipky any two digit number by 11. Let me explain you how.

Suppose you want to multiply 36 by 11

1) Write 36 keeping some gap between both the digits.

2) Now add both these digits. You will get 3+6=9

3) Write this result of addition in between 3 and 6. You got a number 396.

This is the multiplication of 36 and 11 i.e. 396

You can cross check it with calculator.

Take another number 76

As explained above write 76 keeping some gap between both the digits.

After adding 7 & 6 we get 13

Since the result is a two digit number we must first write 3 between 7 and 6

And the carry over 1 shall be added to first digit of the given number i.e. 7. By addition we got 8.

Now replace pre-written number 7 by 8. Finally we got one number i.e. 836

This is the multiplication of 76 and 11.

Now try it yourself with other numbers.

Good luck.

Today we visited the sites of Upper Galilee.

There is a church built over the stone where the Lord set five loaves and two fish–before He multiplied them and fed 5,000 men and their families. The place is known as Tagbha, and the German Benedictine fathers have built an absolutely beautiful church, where we prayed.

On the Mount of the Sermon

We ascended the Mount of “Sermon on the Mount.”

At the top is a Barluzzi church dedicated to the Beatitudes. We celebrated Holy Mass in the crypt and then strolled through the beautiful gardens.

A short distance away, we visited the Church of the Primacy of Peter. This church encloses the Mensa Christi, Christ’s Table, where the Lord cooked fish for some of the Apostles after He rose from the dead.

We were at the shore of the Sea of Galilee. Some of the pilgrims waded in and collected water, stones, and shells to bring to back home.

Then we went to eat some fish caught in the Sea of Galilee. The fish were served with their heads. We played with the heads, using them as ventriloquist dummies.

After lunch, we took a breezy boatride, looking at the the entire Sea of Galilee—the scene our Lord Himself gazed upon two millennia ago.

Synagogue in Capernaum

After the boatride, we visited the excavated town of Capernaum. We saw the ruins of the house of St. Peter, where the Lord Jesus lived for long periods of time and worked miracles.

We sat and meditated in the reconstructed ancient synagogue, built on the foundations of the synagogue where the Lord Jesus taught.

Topics: baseball, numbers, Hall of Fame, Women’s League, tee ball, bat boys, Yogi Berra, Joe Nuxhall, Jackie Robinson, Little League, multiplication

Units of Study: Nonfiction, Content Area

Writing Skills: incorporating rhyme and rhythm

My Thoughts: I now have yet another genre to think about when we get to the Content-Area unit: Number Books. This is one number book that fourth graders will find to be quite interesting. Full Count follows the same format as its alphabet companion book–a rhyming poem accompanies a more detailed expository explanation of the content behind the rhyme. This book has an added bonus of having illustrations that can support a unit on multiplication. The illustration for 25, shows five groups of five baseball bats. The illustration for 50, shows 10 groups of five jerseys. If you use the TERC math curriculum you may want to use this book for the Ten-Minute Math activity, Quick Images.
