As any smart married woman knows, when something inexplicable happens and things are all fuggled up, it’s the husband’s fault! And so of course, I feel perfectly fine in pointing a finger toward the Contrarian for my current lapse in brain function.

For the second day in a row, nothing much seems to be rattling around in the old cranium. I have stated many times before that the mind has only so much space. The Contrarian continues to feel compelled to tell me all kinds of chit that I have no good use for.

I think it’s finally happened. I think I’m full, facts wise. I may not be able to think any more. This is both tragic for me, but deprives the world of my outstanding opinions on everything from soup to nuts.

Speaking of which, (soup that is) I’ve made a nice pot of leek-potato soup for dinner today. That’s that vichyssoise to you less than urbane folks. I also made a nice loaf of bread to eat it with. Ain’t I special? Apparently the brain doesn’t need a lot of operating space in order for me to create a feast.

So, I’ve been reading posts for a good while (after another bout of studying the Exodus story from a couple of scholarly sources). And, frankly it’s as bad as yesterday. It’s still all public options and Inhofe talking out of his butt that climate change is a hoax. Does that man have a mother? And if so, where is she with the bar of soap? Tiger is still deep in pooh these days, and it seems to get no better, but worse by the hour. I figure the big names are going to be pulling endorsements soon. Too bad, but not my concern.

Sarah got pelted by tomatoes yesterday. Guess not everyone is happy with the mooselady. Lots of weighing in on the fact that she continues to open her mouth and lose her mind publicly. It’s all delicious fun for most of us. Maybe you don’t believe in kicking dead horses, but I do.

Speaking of climate change, I just am confounded as I’ve said before, by those that continue to argue against it. I mean those that shill for the big energy companies and other major polluters, I get that. I never get the religious right taking that position. Trying to claim that you are willing to stake the future of your kids and grand kids on some verse in Genesis wherein “Yahweh promises never to cause the seasons to stop,” seems a rather thin basis for singing, “don’t worry, be happy” to me at least.

Returning to Sarah, she’s at it again. I usually like to have popcorn and a nice soda when I’m watching parents eating their own kind. She decided to jump on the bandwagon of those who have taken Mikey Huckabee to task for commuting that sentence. I guess she figured there was more opportunity to kiss the cheeks of her base by doing so.

I am no fan of the Huck, since I’m not prepared to have a president who eschews science in favor of fundamentalism when it comes to evolution, but really, it’s rather unfair to chastise the man for making a decision that seemed proper at the time. Unless of course, your basic attitude is that nobody should ever have a sentence commuted. There are plenty of types like that–most of them live in Texas last time I heard.

On the home front, our Senator Chuckie Grassley is being pushed to speak out against the Ugandan legislatures move to make homosexuality a crime, and and not just any crime. Life in prison for those caught being homosexual and execution for those caught being HIV positive. Chuck follows the cult called the “Family” in Washington and they have ties (great Jesus followers that they are) with the Ugandian legislature. So LGBT members are asking him to do the right thing and speak out on this atrocity. No word yet what he will do. No doubt he’s trying mightily to avoid the entire thing. Chuckie is up for re-election this next year and we all know that the game today is to out right wing the right wing.

On a total upswing, if you want to make this season a time you can feel proud of, then I urge you to visit this site and learn of all the ways you can donate, volunteer, and otherwise make the Christmas season truly the time of love it is meant to be. There are just tons of links to sites where you can spend your money and time doing worthwhile things around the globe.

As we speak, the snow is beginning to come in quite hard. This wouldn’t be so bad if the local weather jerks weren’t so giddy with anticipation. They get extra face time on the tube when the weather gets nasty, and this seems to be more important than the fact that I freakin’ hate this. But to be honest, I’m getting a bit giddy over the fact that I can have a “snow day” tomorrow too. I’m guessing that a walk tomorrow might be out of the question. Oh that is really a shame! Yeah, sure.

Stoyan Baltov is dead. He was beaten to death on this day, December 5th, 2008 in front of a disco club in Sofia.

His death prompted a series of protests that climaxed on January, 14th 2009. On this date police dispersed the protestеrs in front of the Bulgarian Parliament with brutal force.

Today the case against two of the murderers is still in the prosecution’s office (it was referred back by the court for further investigation). The other participants in the beating are not considered responsible for Baltov’s death.

There is no independent investigation of the legality of the Bulgarian police’s actions on January, 14th 2009, either.

What does this mean for young Bulgarians that would like to lead a normal, meaningful life in Bulgaria? It means that they are not protected. It means that it is better to rely rather on yourself than on the Bulgarian institutions. It means hopelessness.

Make no mistake about it – unless the murderers of Stoyan Baltov are punished, there will be no legitimacy for the Bulgarian state in the eyes of the young Bulgarians. Unless we prove that murderers get punished in this country, we will only encourage new murderers. Should the Bulgarian institutions remain silent in this case, many more will simply choose the way out of here.

Indirect talks between Israel and the Islamist Hamas movement over a prisoner exchange involving Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit have been suspended until Tuesday, according to a Palestinian official .

“Negotiations on Shalit will resume after Eid al-Adha in Cairo on Tuesday,” the official told AFP on Thursday on condition of anonymity.

The Hamas delegation, which visited the Syrian capital on Wednesday to meet the movement’s leadership in exile, returned to the Gaza Strip via Cairo, he added, while refusing to detail the content of the discussions.

Shalit was captured by Palestinian militants including Hamas in a cross-border raid from the Gaza Strip in 2006.

Hamas, which has controlled the territory since June 2007, is demanding that more than 450 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails be released in exchange for the soldier.

But Israel is refusing to release some of the detainees, blocking the chance of any agreement being reached, an official close to the talks said on Wednesday.

The same official said reports of an imminent prisoner exchange were “premature.”

Both Hamas and Israel earlier this week reported progress in the negotiations, which have been mediated by Egypt and Germany, but played down reports of a quick deal.

Hamas on Wednesday blamed the delay on Israel, which “has not yet answered the demands of the Palestinian factions,” senior Hamas official Khalil al-Haya said.

So; even the terrorists who are holding the Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit captive demand only 450 Palestinian terrorist prisoners that are being held in Israeli jails be released in exchange for Gilad Shalit; but BHussein seems to think that’s a pretty low number. “DUR… I HAZ A BETR IDEA! LETZ GO FOR A THOUSAND. THEY IS MY TERRORIZT BROTHERZ.” UN-FUCKING-BELIEVABLE. Negotiations are on hold until after Eid al-Adha… I guess the terrorists must be shopping at Best Buy.

We have always been made to believe that man is a rational being; that he is sane and endowed with the capacity to reason or use logic when thinking out a problem.

Thus, when a man is sick in the head, is insane, inconsistent with reason or logic and no longer in control of his thinking faculties, then we always view the man as becoming an irrational being – an animal or a monster, depending on how absurd his thoughts have become or how bizarre his actions have resulted to be.

Irrational people live in a different reality than the rest of us. They hear things differently, see things differently, and deduce things differently.

This has what has seemingly become of the matured, male Ampatuans of Maguindanao who are allegedly suspects in the brutal and unforgiving slaying that cut short the lives of 57 innocent people – mostly women and journalists, who simply wanted to witness the filing of certificate of candidacy by the wife of Buluan Vice Mayor Datu Ismael “Toto” Mangunadadatu, on behalf of her husband who intended to run for governor against the son of incumbent Gov. Andal Ampatuan Sr. The wife was not spared, either.

As if it was not enough killing them mercilessly, the victims were herded to a place where they were still made to suffer the grave cruelty of the murderers by mutilating their bodies – perhaps even before the bodies were left lifeless.

That there was a backhoe in the area which has dug a huge burial chamber for the victims and their vehicles is a testimony that the crime was premeditated and would have concealed all evidences of the transgression, as if the convoy of journalists, aides and relatives of the Mangudadatus just disappeared in thin air.

Fortunately, time was not on the side of the perpetrators and the tortuous job of covering up the crime scene remained unfinished.

Had the criminals succeeded in completing the cover-up, who, among the relatives, would have gone near the area asking and verifying where the missing persons were? No body and not even the Mangudadatus, for this is the much dreaded Ampatuan country!

If, indeed, it is the Ampatuans that masterminded this deplorable and heinous crime, as it is alleged, what could possibly have made them get to the height of their irrationality?

Can nobody challenge them politically anymore? Is their existence being threatened?

Is the Ampatuan bailiwick that bears their name, exclusively for the Ampatuans?

Is their strong connection with President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo given them a false sense of power and dominion over the area making them feel they are above the law in an autonomous region?

For sure there are many more questions to be asked as to what has driven the Ampatuans to the height of their irrationality.

But for now, we can only hope that in the twilight of President Arroyo’s term, swift and decisive action against the alleged criminals will be relentless pursued, if only to make the families of the victims feel that they are not wanting in justice under an administration beholden to the criminals.

Because, clearly the fact that she used to work for the Windsors is far more important than that she’s also been convicted of murder.

This venerable and much honored WW II vet is well known in Hawaii for his seventy-plus years of service to patriotic organizations and causes all over the country. A humble man without a political bone in his body, he has never spoken out before about a government official, until now. He dictated this letter to a friend, signed it and mailed it to the president.

Dear President Obama,

My name is Harold Estes, approaching 95 on December 13 of this year. People meeting me for the first time don’t believe my age because I remain wrinkle free and pretty much mentally alert.

I enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1934 and served proudly before, during and after WW II, retiring as a Master Chief Bos’n Mate. Now I live in a “rest home” located on the western end of Pearl Harbor allowing me to keep alive the memories of 23 years of service to my country.

One of the benefits of my age, perhaps the only one, is to speak my mind, blunt and direct even to the head man.

So here goes.

I am amazed, angry and determined not to see my country die before I do but you seem hell bent not to grant me that wish.

I can’t figure out what country you are the president of.

You fly around the world telling our friends and enemies despicable lies like:

“We’re no longer a Christian nation” and “America is arrogant” - (Your wife even announced to the world, “America is mean-spirited.” Please tell her to try preaching that nonsense to 23 generations of our war dead buried all over the globe who died for no other reason than to free a whole lot of strangers from tyranny and hopelessness.)

I’d say shame on the both of you, but I don’t think you like America nor do I see an ounce of gratefulness in anything you do for the obvious gifts this country has given you. To be without shame or gratefulness is a dangerous thing for a man sitting in the White House.

After 9/11 you said, “America hasn’t lived up to her ideals.”

Which ones did you mean? Was it the notion of personal liberty that 11,000 farmers and shopkeepers died for to win independence from the British? Or maybe the ideal that no man should be a slave to another man that 500,000 men died for in the Civil War? I hope you didn’t mean the ideal 470,000 fathers, brothers, husbands, and a lot of fellas I knew personally died for in WWII, because we felt real strongly about not letting any nation push us around because we stand for freedom.

I don’t think you mean the ideal that says equality is better than discrimination. You know the one that a whole lot of white people understood when they helped to get you elected.

Take a little advice from a very old geezer, young man.

Shape up and start acting like an American. If you don’t, I’ll do what I can to see you get shipped out of that fancy rental on Pennsylvania Avenue. You were elected to lead not to bow, apologize and kiss the hands of murderers and corrupt leaders who still treat their people like slaves.

And just who do you think you are telling the American people not to jump to conclusions and condemn that Muslim major who killed 13 of his fellow soldiers and wounded dozens more. You mean you don’t want us to do what you did when that white cop used force to subdue that black college professor in Massachusetts who was putting up a fight? You don’t mind offending the police calling them stupid but you don’t want us to offend Muslim fanatics by calling them what they are, terrorists.

One more thing… I realize you never served in the military and never had to defend your country with your life but you’re the Commander-in-Chief now, son. Do your job.  When your battle-hardened field General asks you for 40,000 more troops to complete the mission, give them to him. But if you’re not in this fight to win, then get out. The life of one American soldier is not worth the best political strategy you’re thinking of.

You could be our greatest president because you face the greatest challenge ever presented to any president.

You’re not going to restore American greatness by bringing back our bloated economy. That’s not our greatest threat. Losing the heart and soul of who we are as Americans is our big fight now. And I sure as hell don’t want to think my president is the enemy in this final battle.

When a 95 year old hero of the “Greatest Generation” stands up and speaks out like this, everyone listens!!

After Saturday’s deluge of rain brought with it a deluge of leathery oak leaves I gave thanks to God that the sky began to clear on Sunday afternoon.  I waited a bit to be sure and then went outside to rake up the forty-nine tons of leaves which the rains had persuaded would be better off on my lawn than in their trees before they turned to coal by Spring…which from this perspective seems as if it will be a few billion years from now.  That’s more than enough time to make oak leaves become coal.   Though where oak leaves are concerned I could be off by a few dozens of million years.

Maurice Bedard happened by with his grandson, Ambrose, and we talked for a while about the leaves of oak trees.  They endure.  He tried, he said, to turn them into mulch once a long time ago.  He had a spot in his back yard that he used for a leaf dump.  Gave them a few years, he did, to age and turn into rich loam.

Hah!

All he got was layered oak leaves.  I could have told him as much.  They’re so tough you could shingle a roof with them.

Well, I said goodbye to Maurice and Ambrose betimes and got me back to oak leaves.  While turning to the last pile I felt a sharp rap on my head.  I was under the neighbor’s tall white oak whose leave I was gathering into the trash can even as the acron fell and hit me.

I had a flash of anger at the injustice of it all.  The blessed thing hurt, having fallen a good seventy or eighty feet I figured, and I hadn’t done a thing, I figured, to deserve the unkindness.  While I finished I thought about that random act of nut hard oaken cruelty.

For the past couple of days there’s been a lot of news about the decision to move a bunch of sub-human savages from their tropical paradise in the Caribbean to the town that I call home, there to stand trial for dreaming up and helping to carry out an unprovoked sneak attack on that place and others.  Their success in that venture was preceded by others over the previous years, but that one was the biggest and the best, they no doubt thought; and still think as they plot, plan and hate.  And, if my figures are correct followed by about 14 some odd thousand others, since.  But, who cares, really?

I refer, of course, to Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and several other dirt balls who are soon to be moved from Guantanamo Bay, where they langushed (I’ll leave the typo.  I like its nuance.) under a tropical sun, with every creature comfort…including Swine Flu (oops, don’t want to offend either pigs or Muslims) vaccine…supplied them, to New York City to stand trial in Federal Court there for the 9/11 attack.  This is a result of President Obama’s decision to close Guantanamo because he is convinced that these guys are merely murderers and not, as is well known, soldiers in the army of an enemy at war with the United States.

What??!!  Are you nuts??  These guys soldiers in an army?  Whose army, what Nation?

My simple answer to that is the answer they would give, and probably have given, the Dar Al Islam, which translates as the Assembly, Country, Nation (pick a group noun) of Islam.  They are, and have been since the first rabid horde of Muslim missionaries, lead by the Prophet himself (“peace be upon him”) slaughtered the first bunch of innocents who weren’t smart or quick enough to drop to their knees and face the black stone out there in the desert.  Their opponents, their enemies, are anyone left standing, the Dar Ul Haq (I hate their spelling), the Nation of War.

Don’t forget it.

Well, unless you happen to be the President of these Untied States, his Attorney General, and anyone who reports for a major news outlet or teaches school anywhere in the country at any level.  Then not only are you to forget, you are, moreover, obliged to offer apologies for forcing them to act against you in the way they act.  Also, you might just wish to explain to the folks who simply cannot understand these subtleties, that they have every good reason to burn, bomb and murder everyone in sight.

Because, despite the truth of the matter, and the facts in the case, these guys simply do what they do because we make them do it, and have been making them do it for 1400 years.  And all the while, as the President is quick to remind us, they have simply been trying to preserve what is best of our own civilization, principles, and values; among which are slavery, random acts of murder, piracy, honor killing, torture, public execution, kidnapping and wife beating.

It’s all our fault, really, for not saying, “There is no God but Allah, and Mohammed is his prophet.”  What’s any simpler than that?

Well, at least they’ll get a fair trial.  We’ll spend millions hiring the best attroneys in the country to defend them, and they’ll be prosecuted by darn good attorneys.  More than likely some of the attorneys on the prosecution team will have simply crossed the street to DOJ after having worked at the same firm where the AG used to work to get them transferred from the evil prison to The Apple.

That’s good, you know, because things will move faster, and be more friendly.  We like it when we can get along with folks.  Rodney King, who is a saint, I think, said that you know, about just getting along.  So, the prosecutors might say something like this to the defense attorneys, “No need, Bill, to file all those pre-trial discovery motions.  Here’s the stuff you need.  Those dirty Army and CIA guys really violated the rights of your guys, and we intend to prosecute the daylights out of ‘em.  But we can’t until you introduce all of this unfairness during a real honest to goodness criminal trial.  So hurry up.”

Then, the judge will declare a mis-trial and set ‘em all free, or maybe he’ll sentence ‘em sentence ‘em to probation since it’s just their first mass murder on American soil and most of the evidence was thrown out.  “Don’t forget to check in with your probation officer, boys, before you leave the jurisdiction, and, no pilot training.”

“Now, bring me those guards and those secret agents.  We’ll show them what justice is!”

That’s what’s probably not gonna happen, I hope.  What will happen, though I don’t think so, is that they all get convicted of plotting to kill thousands of folks, burn ‘em to death.  Then, what  I think would only be fair is that we put ‘em in a plane and send it out over the ocean on auto-pilot, all 3,000 miles, with 300 miles of fuel.

Alternatively, we could put  ‘em in a nice glass house at what has come to be know as Ground Zero, where they couldn’t ever get out, but where we could come by and tell them what we thought of them.  That would hurt them a lot more, because these guys, they know only how to die.  Just ask them.

The acorn?  I found it after dodging one or two more.  At least, I think it was the one.  I crushed it; without a trial.

There sure has been a lot of needless life-taking this week. First that gentleman in Ohio, then the two shootings in Orlando and Ft. Hood. It seems like everybody wants to express their angst through murder. And while I don’t condone this kind of behavior, it got me wondering what kind of a serial killer I would be if I decided to go buck-nutty and wear the mark. Half of the serial killer mystique is pathology: why they did it and how.

I feel like I’ve read a lot of short scripts this year in which the authors set their serial killer thrillers in offices, living vicariously through voiceover narratives where their main character wanders about mumbling off grievances like Rorschach. Or they just watched American Psycho and traced an outline around Patrick Bateman. And I don’t want to nitpick, but I think you can do better. Your serial killer is a reflection of you. So take the time to explore your sick and twisted imagination and think about how you could end a life in a way that hasn’t been tried before. A killer who pops around a corner wielding a chainsaw isn’t just lazy, it’s impractical. Chainsaws are heavy and loud. Your victim can easily escape with only minor lacerations while anybody within 100 yards would call the cops.

Here’s how I would do it. You would be walking out to your car, or maybe standing on a subway platform late at night. Suddenly you would get bonked over the head with what would feel like a sock full of lug nuts. You would wake, hours later, your body half-buried in the dirt floor of a basement. Sticking out of the ground, you cannot move your arms as the dirt has crowded everything up to your shoulders. You look around the room. It has been painted to look like a meadow. The walls covered in fake leaves of grass. A happy sun of orange and yellow smiling down from the ceiling.

A door would creek at the top of the stairs. And you hear slow steps — not normal footsteps mind you, these would be a THUNK followed by a pause. Then another THUNK. You would see two pink paws hopping down each of the steps. And then a 6′ 3″ man wearing buck teeth and a rabbit’s costume with whiskers painted on his cheeks. He would be hippity-hopping down each step, his hands curled to his chest like two front paws. He would frolic about the basement while you watched in terror, pretending to sniff the painted meadow leaves with playful curiosity.

And then his eyes would light up with joy when he spots you. He would hop toward you with haste, pawing his cheek and sniffing your head while his two buck teeth smack against your forehead. He looks hungry, this fluffy bunny-looking man. He looks very, very hungry as he holds up a mirror.

Your face is painted orange. And your hair has been dyed green. And that’s when you’d remember the headlines from the day before: “PELLET-SIZED WASTE BELIEVED TO BE MISSING HOUSEWIFE”.

So let’s open this up to discussion. What kind of killer would you be? It can be anything you want, you sicko. Maybe your victims are found posed like actors in famous movie scenes. Maybe you kill only on Arbor Day. Let your mind go wild.

It has happened AGAIN today.  A mUSLIM convert in the U.S. Army opened fire on soldiers at Ft. Hood, Texas who were getting ready to deploy to the middle east.  This mUSLIM killed 12 and wounded 31 in what was described as a calm, calculated attack.  Sadly, the swine testicle is still alive.

I overheard comments from a liberal blogger who was whining that “this wasn’t an act of terrorism.  Terrorism targets innocent civilians, while this attack, the attack on the USS Cole, the attack on the Beirut barracks, and the shooting of two soldiers walking out of a Little Rock recruiting center were attacks on military targets.“  You don’t even know how right you are, you liberal, anti-American, piece of human excrement.  This is more than terrorism, it is ANOTHER act of WAR.

The koran, quran, or whatever these evil people call the collection of satanic verses that direct them to HATE and KILL ME just because I am not one of them, directs muslims to befriend infidels (of which I am a proud one), and convert them to islam or kill them if they will not convert.  (m)uslims first allegiance is to their religion, not to their country.  Do you trust or want to be a part of a religion that teaches you to hate and kill, or one that teaches you to love and seek peace?  Do you trust people who will strap bombs to their women and children and march them into market places full of innocent people to kill as many as possible?  Golda Meir was right.  Until they love their children more than they hate us, there can never be peace.  Before you uninformed idiots out there start trying to misquote the Bible in an effort to use this argument against me, don’t bother.  We have turned the other cheek.  Look at the list below.  We have turned the other cheek more times that we should have.  It’s passed time to say “no more.”

It was muslims who attempted to blow up the World Trade Center the first time, and it was muslims who finally brought it down killing 3,000 some odd people.  It was muslims who highjacked the other airplanes, successfully flying one into the Pentagon.  It was muslims who were plotting to attack Ft. Dix, NJ and kill American soldiers.  It was (Iranian) muslims led by their current president who took over our embassy in Tehran and held 52 Americans hostage for 444 days.  It was muslims who attacked the USS Cole.  It was muslims that blew up the U.S. Marine barracks in Beirut.  It was muslims who blew up Pan Am flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland killing 243 innocent people.  The list is endless.  Anywhere there is violence in the world today, muslims are at the center of it.  Have muslims who are supposedly not “radical” spoken out against any of this?  Not a peep.  In fact, the first reaction after one of these cowardly murderous attacks is for the various muslim organizations to preemptively complain about how muslims will be discriminated against.  You don’t want me to distrust you and “discriminate” against you?  Then stand beside me, loudly denounce islam, and help me defeat the enemy who is trying to kill me and my children.  Until then, I don’t trust you.  You write on your blogs about how “heroic” these evil swine-bred-with-female-dogs are (http://forums.islamicawakening.com, mujahid_moonsighter – “reports now are saying that the shooter was a convert(revert) to Islam, a Major(officer) in the army Allahu akbar insha Allah he be shaheed, what a brave mujahid; omar247 – “One who defends the honour of his brother, Allah keeps the fire of hell away from his face on the Day of Judgment.”).  In your muslim neighborhoods (which are muslim because you will not assimilate with Americans or the citizens of any other country that you infest) and muslim stores, and on your muslim radio and television stations RIGHT HERE IN AMERICA, you cheer when events like this take place.  You are despicable.  You are pork excrement for condoning the murder of innocent people.

Following the shooting today, Octobama wrapped his tentacles around the teleprompter long enough to issue condolences to those involved in the shooting.  Mr. Obama, whether or not you are legally the president, you do currently occupy the office.  The job title is “Commander-in-Chief,” which is a military title.  You are not simply the consoler-in-chief, and you are supposed to be more than the campaigner-in-chief.  You have a duty to America to quit sympathizing with our enemies and PROTECT THIS NATION.  But I doubt that will EVER happen.

Whether or not our muslim-sympathizing comrade-in-chief, or our spineless congress have the courage to admit that we are indeed at war with islam, the fact remains that a state of war exists.  All patriotic Americans will defend this nation against this threat with or without the help of our muslim president, or our impotent government.  (i)slam is incompatible with America and the rest of the world.

p.s.:  Yes, I know “islam” and “muslim” are supposed to be capitalized.  To do so would convey some measure of respect that is not deserved.

Timed perfectly for Halloween, Governor Brewer asked state agencies for proposals to reduce spending 15 percent in order to close the state’s $2 billion budget deficit. The results have been predictably spooky scenarios painted by each agency.

In a recent editorial on the agencies’ proposals, the Republic notes “The Department of Corrections proposes changing state law so felons can be released earlier.” Headlines like these imply that hoards of murderers would wander our neighborhoods, but it is nothing more than a scare tactic to suggest the state would release violent criminals because of budget reductions.

While the editorial does acknowledge that agencies are employing the “Washington Monument” strategy (the practice of causing the most pain possible to undermine support for budget reductions), it fails to admonish them for refusing to play hardball with the feds. For example, while other states are challenging “maintenance of effort” requirements, the Department of Economic Security is pretending like there is no budget reduction choice besides eliminating KidsCare altogether, a program whose spending pales in comparison to AHCCCS.

The results of Governor Brewer’s faux budget-cutting exercise were predictable. Agencies are painting the darkest possible picture. Our professional politicians, the bureaucrats, are running rings around the amateur elected ones.

Cures can be painful and a little scary, and curbing the state’s spending habit is certainly no exception. The budget reductions needed to bring spending in balance with revenues might sound ghoulish, but they are necessary and achievable. A 15 percent across-the-board budget reduction would put state spending slightly above 2006 levels. That’s hardly a catastrophe in a time like this.

You accused United States Marines of cold-blooded murder without proof and said we should redeploy to Okinawa . Okinawa, John? And the Democrats call you their military expert! Al Jazeera quoted you saying that Iraqi’s torture chambers were open under new management. Did you see the news, Teddy? The Islamic Nazis demonstrated another beheading for you. If you truly supported our troops, you’d show the world poster-sized pictures of that atrocity and demand the annihilation of it. Your legislation stripping support from the South Vietnamese led to a communist victory there. Here’s another fine example of our government putting the needs of the American people first. We’ve been told that the H1N1 vaccine manufacturers are running behind schedule. Not enough advance warning, I guess.

Then the news came out a few days ago that it won’t be until late December or early January that there will be enough H1N1 vaccine to inoculate all Americans. Yet, shipments of the vaccine are currently being sent overseas to Europe.

Now, they’ve found enough vaccine to inoculate a bunch of American-hating terrorists, who in my opinion should have been executed by now. The detainees don’t need flu shots. They need solitary confinement.

I sincerely hope that the flu shots that your family and loved ones are counting on this fall don’t get shipped to a mass murderer.

WASHINGTON – The Pentagon will offer the H1N1 vaccination to detainees at the U.S. facility at Guantanamo Bay, officials there said Friday.

The Pentagon made the decision based on U.S. government assessments that people held in detention facilities are at high risk for the pandemic, said Maj. Diana R. Haynie, a spokeswoman for Joint Task Force Guantanamo Bay, which is in charge of holding the suspected terrorists.

“Detainees at JTF Guantanamo are considered to be at higher risk and therefore they will be offered the H1N1 vaccination,” Haynie said.

“JTF Guantanamo conducts safe, humane, legal and transparent care and custody of detainees. As such, we must provide detainees the medical care necessary to maintain their health,” she said.

Base officials had not received the vaccinations and did not know when they were expected to arrive, Haynie said.

Once the vaccinations are received, doses will be administered to active-duty personnel before being offered to detainees and others on the base, Haynie said.

The vaccination is mandatory for all uniformed personnel, she said.

The vaccinations will be voluntary for the detainees, who will be briefed on the virus and the vaccine prior to deciding whether to receive the latter.

Some of the detainees have already voluntarily taken the seasonal flu shot, Haynie said.

In 2008, the man behind many of the atrocities in the former Yugoslavia was arrested in Belgrade.  Only he was using a new name, wearing a new hairstyle, and practicing a new profession.  Radovan Karadzik was in hiding for 13 years and in that time he built a career in alternative medicine.

Well, he’s in detention now and protesting the start of his trial.  And – get this – the jerk is protesting on the grounds that HE NEEDS MORE TIME TO PREPARE HIS DEFENSE.  Dude.  You have known that this was a distinct possibility for THIRTEEN YEARS.  Jerk.

A few days ago, we received a comment on an article we posted back in April, “Teens Who Commit Murder Don’t Deserve A Second Chance.” Our article focused on the case of Quantel Lotts who was convicted of first-degree murder at 14 for the stabbing death of his then 17-year-old stepbrother and is now serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole. Lotts came from an extremely abusive home with drug-addicted, negligent parents and believes that his punishment is too harsh: “‘They locked me up and threw away the keys.’ [. . .] ‘They took away all hope for the future.’” (“Teens Locked Up For Life Without A Second Chance“)

Lotts’ case is one of many that prompt the question, “Should our society sentence juveniles, in particular those who came from bad homes, to life without parole?” To us, the only logical answer is, “If they commit murder, definitely.” Yes, Lotts’ parents contributed to his actions through their negligence and abuse, and they ought to be in prison for the way they treated him. Nevertheless, he still took away his stepbrother’s life and must be held responsible for his crime. Our laws are meant not only to protect our society, but also to provide justice for victims and their loved ones, and there is no justice when we make excuses on a case by case basis for murderers who have taken away the life of another human being.

In light of this argument, the comment (which links to Feministing.com: “Sara Kruzan: Life Without Parole For Killing Her Pimp“) asks how we would handle the case of Sara Kruzan, now 29, who was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life without parole at 16 for killing “G.G.,” the pimp who repeatedly raped her and forced her into prostitution when she was only 13 years old. Like Lotts, Sara came from an abusive home with a drug-addicted mother, and when she met G.G. at 11, she looked up to the 31-year-old as a “father figure.” In just two short years, she went from making the Principal’s Honor Roll to working the streets. Watch Sara tell her story in her own words:

To us, Sara’s case is not really about whether or not our society should sentence juveniles who commit murder to life without parole; rather, it causes our society to examine the difference between murder and self-defense. Teens who commit murder deserve harsh sentences, but no one should be punished for acting in self-defense, even if these actions result in the perpetrator’s death. (Note: Legally, self-defense is not premeditated or “vigilante justice.”)

Did Sara murder G.G., or was she merely acting in self-defense? It is easy to imagine that after being raped and abused for three years, Sara felt trapped by G.G. and that she had no other way out. She was clearly without the monetary resources necessary to escape: As she said in her interview, “The girls would bring their money and give it to [G.G.]. [. . .] Everything was his.” However, the judge called her actions “well thought-out” and claimed she “lacked moral scruples,” ultimately sentencing her to life without parole. Without detailed facts of what actually transpired, we personally cannot support or condemn Sara’s conviction or sentence.

What is tragic about both of these stories is that neither of these teens would have been in the position to commit murder if their parents had only done their jobs. It is incredible how destructive bad parents can be! Parents, please take responsibility for your children and treat them with the utmost respect: The quality of their futures depends on it.
