Estamos vivendo uma era digital onde tudo que fazemos esta ligado a informatica. De algum modo quase tudo que fazemos nesse mundo é pirataria errado. Baixar seriados, músicas, filmes, desenhos usar imagens com direitos reservados e outros ‘crimes’ virtuais são ‘normais’ nos dias de hoje (minha antiga professora de português me tiraria alguns décimos por usar um marcador temporal!).

Pagar por volta de 40 reais por um CD para ouvir apenas 1 música é algo que deixa muitos consumidores indignados. Ainda mais nesses tempos onde a música mais tocada da semana só é a música mais tocada daquela semana. Depois disso o consumidor tera que comprar um outro CD para ter novamente o novo sucesso da semana.

Gravadoras perdem milhões de dolares todo ano por conta da pirataria e download das MP3. E por incrível que pareça temos culpa nisso (MUITA!). Eu sou contra download de músicas na internet, mas tambem sou contra pagar 1 CD inteiro para ouvir 1 unica música. Se por acaso alguem estiver curioso de como ouço músicas clique aqui ou usem o YouTube, o youtube tem músicas e videos disponibilizados pela própria gravadora acredito eu que seja para minimizar o número de download e pirataria.

Coringa à Lá Carte agora vai sugerir uma possível solução e u idéia inovadora, uma mídia de CD tem capacidade media para 80 minutos de áudio (me refiro a áudio para tocadores que não suportam MP3) uma boa solução seria as gravadoras disponibilizarem nos sites e/ou re-vendedoras a opção do consumidor selecionar as músicas de um CD, e pagar por tempo de mídia gravada.

Segue um fluxo grama estranho ilustrando a idéia:

Eu sei que agente não ganha aparentemente porra nenhuma nada por comprar produtos originais, mas alem da garantia e da qualidade permitimos o investimento das gravadoras em novos artistas e por conseqüência eles irão precisar de mais funcionários para atender a essa demanda que aumenta e assim nós um dia podemos ser esse funcionário que foi contratado pelo aumento da produção e investimento das gravadoras!

Bija arī lietas, kas vnk. kaitināja – daudzās reklāmas visās malās un mazais staciju skaits, kas izveidotas pēc stila (maz stilu).

Līdzīgs projekts ir arī Finetune.  Sākums tāds pats kā parasti – ievadi ko gribi atskaņot un pārējo dara finetune serviss – atrod dziesmas, parāda līdzīgos māksliniekus un ļauj veidot savas playlistes. Serviss itkā bezmaksas, tomēr uzmanīgi ieskatoties var pamanīt, ka tāpat kā Last.fm tiek piedāvāti 30 sekunžu gari izgriezumi no dziesmām kuras jāpērk caur iTunes. Šajā ziņā Finetune darbības princips ir vislīdzīgākais Last.fm.

Savukārt, ja vēlaties ieraudzīt ko vismaz vizuāli atšķirīgu, tad Meemix būs tieši priekš Jums.

Būtība tā pati, tikai maz reklāmu un “viegls’ dizains. Patika tas, ka ātri varēju maniz izvēlētā mākslinieka dziesmas atzīmēt, kā favorītus. Nedaudz neierasta likās piedāvātās mūzikas secība – skanēja 4 metalcore dziesmas, kad pēkšņi ne no kurienes pilnīgi alternatīvie smashing pumpkins sāka dragāt “Zero” Nu tas viņiem piedodams, jo labi, ka nepiedāvāja kautko no R’n'B repertuāra – dabūtu es pasvīst vēl

Protams vēl ir pilns nets ar dažādiem servisiem, kas dod iespēju klausīties mūziku no interneta. Būs daudzi, kas slavinās Imeem, klausīsies Nullsoft (Winamp) Shoutcast interneta radiostacijas vai kautvai to pašu Myspace, kā labu online mūzikas servisu. Tomēr no manis līdz šim aplūkotajiem, šķiet, ka Spotify vislabāk atbilst manām prasībām.

Time Magazine has published a list of 50 Best Websites, which will provide me with several hours of surfing. Without checking out any of the ones I haven’t heard of, I am delighted to see Delicious sitting at #3, although I would have put it at number one. Delicious, a social bookmarking site owned by Yahoo, is the one place on the web I visit everyday and could not live without. I use it to organize things I read, sites I visit, and all information that I find on the web. I frequently bookmark articles there for the Articles I’m Reading section of Audio4cast.

Another site that I use a lot, Flickr, is also on the list. I use this one to get images for my blog, but it’s also a great place to share pics. Twitter, Google, Facebook and Skype, all indispensable to my online self, made the list as well.

Pandora, Spotify, Musicovery and Last.fm represent Internet radio on the list. Pandora and Last.fm are “near twin radio killers” according to Time, while Musicovery is “a music-streaming site with a mood-ring interface that works like a soundboard for adjusting your robot DJ’s musical taste….(with an interface) so radically different from Pandora and Last.fm that it seems like it was beamed from an ultra-sophisticated, über-arty future utopia. ” Spotify, according to Time, is the holy grail, celestial jukebox that will stream any song you want and pay the royalties for you. Given that you can’t listen in the US yet, it might be just a little early for them to appear on this list, but it’s definitely trendy to talk about them.

It’s a great list. Unfortunately, they forgot Audio4cast, but there’s always next year….

 Então você esgotou sua coleção inteira de MP3 e está cansado de pedir para seus amigos indicações de novas músicas e receber, entre centenas de sugestões, uma que realmente valha a pena. O que fazer? Bem mais fácil que baixar dezenas de pacotes de arquivos mesmo em redes P2P, sem contar o aspecto legal, são as rádios online.

Diferentemente de rádios tradicionais, hoje cada vez menos apreciadas pelo público jovem, as estações online ganham por um fator: a maior parte delas é formada pelas chamadas “rádios inteligentes”, estações que se adaptam ao seu gosto. O que isso quer dizer? Há ainda sistemas que fazem uso do chamado Projeto Genoma Musical, uma lista criada em 2000, que relaciona mais de 400 atributos que descrevem canções e são organizados por semelhança, por meio de um complexo algoritmo matemático.

Seja qual for a tecnologia adotada, o que importa é o resultado: uma fonte inesgotável de novas bandas a serem escutadas e, ainda melhor, sem interrupção para comerciais, dependendo somente de uma placa de som e de disponibilidade de velocidade de acesso em sua rede.

Abaixo você confere o que  de mais legal e inovador na Internet, sites pelos quais você poderá descobrir novas bandas sem se preocupar em incomodar seus amigos ou encontrar “aquela” música que não sai de sua cabeça.

Ao selecionar um ponto de partida, o software gera uma linha com cada uma das músicas. Em nossos testes, a rádio foi eficiente e não engasgou nenhuma vez. O serviço funciona sem qualquer registro, mas se você fizer o cadastro gratuito pode banir músicas de sua lista. Se fizer o cadastro pago (US$ 4/mês), pode ouvir as canções em alta qualidade e ter acesso direto a suas favoritas.

Adicionalmente, o Musicovery mostra a capa do álbum cuja música está em reprodução e permite comprá-lo em canais internacionais de venda.

Jamendo: um imenso catálogo gratuito para ouvir, baixar e aumentar a coleção

O Jamendo é um dos melhores sites de conteúdo Creative Commons (licença que permite download gratuito e, em alguns casos, até mesmo uso comercial de material criativo), o Jamendo é uma grande comunidade de músicos independentes.

Cada banda possui um perfil e ganha a possibilidade de hospedar gratuitamente suas músicas, que poderão ser reproduzidas pelos visitantes em forma de streaming ou, ainda, por meio do download das faixas no formato MP3.

O site relaciona todas as bandas em um listão a partir da capa de seus CDs, que podem ser procurados com o auxílio de um sistema de busca ou de etiquetas que identifiquem seu estilo. Ao registrar- se no serviço, além de escolher suas bandas favoritas, você poderá ver quantos álbuns serem descobertos ainda existem na comunidade, ou seja, aqueles que você ainda não ouviu.

Shoutcast: uma lista de rádios online para você ouvir em seu Winamp

Criada pela Nullsoft, a Shoutcast é uma rede para a criação e reprodução de rádios online. Em seu vasto catálogo – que pode ser explorado em seu site oficial e reproduzido pelo tocador multimídia Winamp, criado pela mesma empresa – estão relacionadas rádios comerciais e amadoras, de todos os estilos possíveis e imagináveis de som.

Para usuários que não se contentam em ouvir, o Shoutcast disponibiliza ferramentas de servidor que, a partir de um pequeno software integrado ao Winamp, transmitem sua lista de reprodução em tempo real para qualquer ouvinte no mundo inteiro.

O site da Shoutcast cataloga dezenas de milhares de rádios online que podem ser pesquisadas por nome da estação ou gênero. Um dos grandes problemas dessas rádios é que você não escolhe as faixas que deseja ouvir, nem pode configurar suas preferências, como é o caso da Musicovery, citada anteriormente, já que você ouve conteúdo selecionado por outros usuários.

TheSixtyOne: um híbrido de rádio e jogo em que se aposta em bandas independentes

Encontrar apenas uma categoria para o TheSixtyOne foi difícil. Este site une sob, a mesma interface, uma comunidade e a possibilidade de baixar músicas e conhecer bandas da cena independente.

Na realidade, o site incentiva seu visitante a explorar o cenário musical underground, seja qual for seu estilo preferido, e votar nas bandas mais interessantes e capazes. O TheSixtyOne traz um sistema de pontuação, uma espécie de aposta sem dinheiro, em que você poderá colocar suas fichas nas músicas que acredita que serão a preferência dos usuários.

Mas se você tiver esgotado suas fichas com apostas furadas, o site oferece uma alternativa para levantar um “dinheirinho virtual”: ouça as músicas menos exploradas da comunidade a partir de um jukebox (chamado de The Rack) e ganhe pontos. Ao mesmo tempo em que é um site divertido para os meros ouvintes, é uma porta de entrada para músicos, que poderão ganhar notoriedade entre os receptivos membros do TheSixtyOne.

Jango: uma rádio inteligente que aprende com seus gostos musicais

Nos moldes do bom e velho – e bloqueado para os brasileiros – Pandora, o Jango é um site que cria rádios online baseadas no gosto do usuário, que deve se registrar para definir suas preferências e armazenar suas criações.

As rádios são feitas com base no nome de uma banda, seja internacional ou nacional, e tenta seguir sempre o mesmo estilo de som. O design simples abriga não apenas um tocador multimídia, mas também aspectos de comunidade, chegando a se assemelhar com a rede social Last.fm, ainda que em menor escala.

Em nossos testes, as músicas selecionadas pelo Jango foram bastante fiéis ao estilo musical da banda escolhida, embora em um ou outro caso, alguns artistas clássicos da MPB foram comparados a Ricky Martin, e outros, como o Rei Roberto, não foram encontrados.

Meemix: escolha uma banda e deixe que este serviço gere uma rádio para você

Mais um site de rádios inteligentes, o Meemix tem uma série de funções para manter seus usuários o maior tempo possível conectados ao serviço. Além de criar as rádios baseadas em seu gosto, o programa possui dois modos de definir as próximas canções: um deles aumenta a “surpresa” na escolha da próxima música, e o outro define se você deseja um som mais relaxante ou mais agitado, dependendo de seu humor.

O sistema de pontuação funciona além de “gosto” ou “não gosto”, e traz uma escala que vai de -6 a 6. Além dessa abrangente votação, o site possui outro diferencial: um jogo no estilo “Qual é a música”.

A interface limpa do Meemix torna dispensável o conhecimento da língua inglesa, idioma utilizado pelo serviço. O site peca, contudo, na criação de rádios com músicas brasileiras.

Songza

O Songza é um site que, diferentemente de uma rádio online, permite apenas que você procure músicas na Internet e as reproduza via streaming individualmente. O programa utiliza fontes como o YouTube para sua canções, de modo que permite que você veja, em outra janela, o videoclipe da faixa escolhida.

Por utilizar o YouTube como fonte, é possível encontrar inúmeras bandas nacionais, muitas em apresentação ao vivo, embora a qualidade do áudio não seja garantida.

Fiquem ligados que em breve falaremos mais sobre

Passando aqui rapidinho pra deixar dois links de sites que fazem parte dos meus favoritos.
O primeiro é um site interativo e super feliz e calmante. Tem a música de uma banda espanhola chama Labuat. A música se chama Soy tu Aire e enquanto ela toca e você move o mouse, a ‘linha de tinta’ preta vai te seguindo e se transformando de acordo com a parte da música (dela saem pássaros, imagens, dente-de-leão, peixes, etc.). É uma ótima diversão e a música é encantadora. Hora ou outra abro o site para me divertir.

Outro site que gosto muito e esse se torna extremamente útil quando estou em um computador alheio sem minhas músicas ou apenas não sei o que escutar ou quero músicas novas, é o Musicovery.
Nele você pode escolher os estilos musicais que quer ouvir, a época e definir seu humor em Energético, Positivo, Calmo e ‘Dark’. De acordo com suas escolhas é criada uma rede de músicas que tocam em seguida.
O único problema é que não nos é permitido passar as músicas (tem que ser membro Premium), mas isso não é grande coisa porque normalmente a seleção de músicas é muito boa.

Fui apresentado ao musicovery por meu professor de Estatistica. O musicovery é uma radio online totalmente diferente das outras, e que talves a vida musical de vocês nunca mais será a mesma depois de musicovery.

Bom, o diferencial da radio começa na música. Ao entrar no site você tem uma especie de controle remoto. no controle você escolhe num painel o grau de positividade ou negatividade e o grau de energia ou calma da música que vai tocar. No modo ‘Dance’ você pode escolhe o grau de dance da música e a velocidade da mesma.

Pra quem não conhece, indico um site que faz meus dias felizes. O Musicovery é uma espécie de “shuffle” do Ipod, onde você escolhe o ano, o ritmo e o estilo de som que quer e ele prepara uma seleção variada para você escutar. A listagem de artista é infinita, e ele ainda recomenda artistas parecidos com seu gosto. Além disso, o site tem uma bela arte estampada com ícones flutuantes e coloridos e é super fácil de mexer.

Eu amo música e fico muito feliz quando descubro uma banda nova com som de qualidade, vide o exemplo do Zabomba. Nele a partir dos artistas que você adiciona na Biblioteca, ele sugere outros tantos que têm o som parecido com o que você já ouve. Além disso você pode montar sua própria rádio, assistir a vídeos e baixar músicas!

O diferencial do Myspace para as outras redes socias é a proximidade que o usuário tem com os artistas por meio de suas páginas oficiais. É onde muitos músicos divulgam notícias, show e novas músicas em primeira mão. É uma ótima oportunidade para bandas novas se promoverem.

Esse foi o site que eu mais estranhei, acho que não entendi muito a proposta. Bom, não difere muito dos outros…você se cadastra, escolhe as categorias de música que mais curti e pode ouvir a rádio da Deezer. De qualquer forma, vale a pena fuçar.

These past couple of months I have been hearing so much about Spotify that I finally decided to give it a shot. Truth be told, I had already set up my account for some time now, but never really took the time to download the Spotify player and fool around with it. Well now I have and it’s amazing. Frankly speaking:

Spotify is currently solving all my problems in terms of finding and listening to music

Since P2P networks started to take off back in the day, I, like so many other music consumers, neglected the CD purchasing process.

About five years ago, I had a couple of hundred of original discs, but unfortunately I wasn’t organized enough not to lose them, break their casings, lend them to friends without asking them back etc. Having moved a few times in different countries didn’t help either. So as time passed by, the number of burned CDs I had in my possession gradually exceeded my original stash. Now I probably only have no more than 100 CDs, 80% of which are bad quality burned ones.

Of course, with the advent of portable computers, I hadn’t felt the need to buy or use a stereo at home, so the only times I used my CDs were with my laptop (pretty rare – opening it up just takes too much time:) and occasionally in a car. In other words, almost never.

The same thing occurred with my MP3s. Since I wasn’t buying them, I didn’t mind deleting gigas of tunes at a time when I needed free space in my hard drives. Add to that all my Mp3s stored on different computers, HD crashes, un-cautious formating etc, my Mp3 folders were a mess of folders I never really took the time to order.

For two years now, I have been practically only listening to music thanks to online music search engines (here’s a good list for ya). Deezer, Songza, Musicovery, Skreemr, Finetune…and I’m sick of it! We waste enormous amounts of time just searching for music, dealing with slow buffering, complicated websites with complicated interfaces. Granted that it’s extremely cool to live in an age where all music is free; a decade ago that wasn’t the case, and of course I appreciate the luck I have as a music lover living in 2009, but there is the obscure and absurd factor of having too much choice nowadays that kills the beauty of say, buying the latest release of one of your favorite bands in a real physical format who’s quantity is limited. That and many other things.

Whatever the sociological reasons, since I have been using Spotify, I feel this enormous weight just lift off my shoulders. I feel as if my hunger for music is under control because I can easily satisfy it. I now feel that it’s within my power to supply all my friends’ wants and needs in terms of music when they come over.

I also feel this weird guiltiness about having access to a service like Spotify and its 6 million free tunes, but that feeling is easily suppressed.

So, how does Spotify work? Easy:

• You download the Spotify player.
• When it’s launched, you perfectly understand how the interface works because it’s sober and simple, so the music search process commences instantly.
• Unless you are looking for Romanian regional bands, or 50 year old back catalogs of electro-acoustic music, chances are you’ll automatically find what you are looking for (again, 6 million tracks, and thousands of tracks added very regularly from all over).
• Playing a few tracks will make you realize there is practically no buffering delay (haven’t felt buffering even for a second yet).
• The search process is flawless, and Spotify’s recommendation system is as good as any other (definitely better than Deezer’s…)
• Creating playlists is also super easy and intuitive
• Oh yeah, and, its FREE

Well, at least for me it’s free. See, Spotify is a Swedish start-up who’s geographical span is still somewhat limited. The service is not currently available in the United States or Canada but it is available in western Europe, and here in France it’s free.

Depending on where you live, Spotify proposes different subscription plans. The free version is only available in Sweden, Norway, Finland, the UK, France, Spain and The Netherlands, and in some of those countries an invitation is required (I got my invitation via Techcrunch I think and only have 10 invites left). In this case, free means you have access to all the music, but you must endure a couple of graphical ads popping up from time to time in the player itself. In some countries, users will have 15 second audio ads between songs every half hour or so. If you want to get rid of the ads you must pay ($1 for a day pass and $10 for a monthly pass).

And that’s about it really. Not much else to add – Spotify rocks. Go to their website at www.spotify.com, check out their video, create an account if you can (sorry for the canadian and american readers of this blog – at least you’ll know you have to keep an eye out for its release across the Atlantic), and just listen.

If you only keep listening to the same old artists, it will get boring. It is good to widen your music circle, but how do you do that? There are a lot of generic, uninteresting so-called “music discovery” websites. But I know of three good options. Can you tell more?

. Musicovery – This website will show you apparently random songs, according to your selected music style. For free members you can’t listen to the songs, but you can favorite or block songs. Good to find out about new artists.

. Last.fm – You add some of your favorite artists and it will show related artists, and lets you get a 30 second preview of the songs. Each artist page also includes a small biography. The website is avaliable in several languages.

. Grooveshark – You simply put in an artist of choice, and they’ll let you hear full songs. You can make playlists, favorite songs, and even upload your own if you’re willing to! They got some nice blues artists, highly recommended.

Observartion: I’m really sorry about those last days. It’s just that I’m travelling and I don’t have much time to access the internet, make researchs and all that stuff to post. When I get back, this saturday, it’ll all go back to normal. Thanks.

The second I heard about Musicovery, I just had to try it out. The formula seems pretty simple:

I was very interested to read the recent Guardian coverage of the music streaming service Spotify, especially having been part of the beta programme and written about Spotify quite a while ago and a couple of times since.

My initial impressions were very positive. I liked the clean interface and the incredibly quick response times. But on using the service more, I started to notice that there seemed to be issues with the sound quality, and whereas I recanted to an extent, it does seem that others have picked up on this. And then there’s the adverts, which I do feel intrude on the music. I’ve been told this is why the service is free, but Last.FM and Musicovery are free and they don’t interrupt your listening pleasure with ads, that I’m aware.

But the real problem with Spotify seems to have been its licensing situation. It would appear that overnight, thousands of titles were recently removed on orders from the publishers. It’s even been noted that a lot of Radiohead is missing, which I find very peculiar considering they’ve been quite literally giving their music away.

So, the service is launched, then radically changed. Sounds horribly familiar to me. Isn’t this what happened with Pandora, which was my previous service of choice? Lovely interface, nice algorithm, then suddenly the plug is pulled for anyone outside the US. And only this week we have Facebook attempting to hold the rights to users’ content – forever – then deciding it needs to think about it some more, in a manner reminiscent of its recanting of the Beacon advertising system.

What is going on? Exactly how thoroughly have these services really thought about their business models before going to market? I would like to think Facebook in particular would have thought long and hard about the legal complexities of what they want to achieve. At the very least they should know that the very networks they enable have collective voices powerful enough to give them real problems. But it seems Pandora and Spotify have also gone like a bull at a gate to get their services online, then suddenly realised they haven’t quite thought it through.

Is it the mentality of the ‘permanent beta’, the idea that software is in constant development when delivered over the web? If so, it’s a powerful way to deliver software, but I’m not sure it’s such a good way to run a business.

A Study on Emotions and Music

Scientists have shown that there is a link between how people feel and the music they listen to.  In 1995, there was a study done at the Standford Medical School where a group of depression patients got randomly put into one of three groups.  The first group got workshops with musicotherapeuts every week, the second group used musicotherapy techniques but didn’t see a musicotherapeutist and the third group had nothing to do with music.  The results were quite surprising: both of the first groups showed significantly better moods and raised self-esteem AND those benefits actually lasted beyond the timeframe during which they received those visits.   You may not be depressive, but if it works for people who have completely lost their joie de vivre, it certainly can work for us too!

Boulanger, Grindlay and Knouf, from the Music, Mind and Health Project, write on the topic :

” There is near universal agreement amongst philosophers, cognitive scientists, performers, and the listening public as to the power of music to induce various emotional responses. Specifically, recent fMRI and behavioural studies have begun to elucidate the nature of this process.

One difficulty in understanding these emotional responses is the nature of the thing we are studying: humans have a notoriously difficult time expressing linguistically their specific emotional experiences. An even greater challenge is the description as a result of a non-linguistic activity, such as music. So we must ask the question: in what ways can we get accurate and meaningful descriptions of said experience given the arduousness of the problem?

Our tactics, in the nascent stages of their development, involve considering two tracks: one, asking listeners to select a large subset of emotional descriptors from a list of evocative words, assigning a strength, and then, as the experimentor, using machine learning techniques to discover patterns in the responses; and second, considering orthogonal tasks or actions for the listener to perform, where the induced emotional response will affect the development or outcome of the action.”

-  Sluggish : you can get out of a lethargic mode by putting on some music that is more upbeat to wake up your mind and body.  Anything you can dance to is good.

- Sad : studies showed that starting with a music that matches your mood and slowly moving up to upbeat, happy music, can help improve your mood.

-  Scares, or Stressed : play gentle, slow music, such as classical music or Enya, to slow down your heart beat and steady your breathing.

-  Stuck:  anything lively will do – jazz or upbeat classical music like Vivaldi

The Music, Mind and Machine group came up with some pretty funky music tools ranging from composition tutorial software to learn how to jam in different musical styles (based on various world cultures) to music mapping tool to organize your ipod lists.

Musicovery and Pandora are two other great websites that let you discover new music.  Musicovery asks you to pick your genres of prefered music and to indivate the mood you are in, and will play music in that range, while Pandora asks you to name artists or songs you like and generates a playlist based on your preferences, suggesting songs you may like.  By voting on every song and rating it, the system learns which features you like in songs and becomes more fine-tuned in its propositions.  The entire system was built around 500 music characterstics under which each song was classified to help the computer interpret the likes and dislikes of internet surfers.  Music podcasts are also available on Pandora’s website to learn the basics of music theory.

Just browsing through my bookmarks, came across this website and thought I should share the knowledge. Musicovery is a website that is perfect when you want to listen to music but cant decide what to listen to (so frustarting!). Just tell Musicovery the mood your in and away you go! But my favourite feature of Musicovery is the way they show your choice of songs. The songs matching your requests are displayed in a mind map style, each random song linked by your personal requests. You can let musicovery play through each song immediately displayed or click on a certain song opening a whole new mind map. You can effortlessly flow through the music you want to hear with an endless selection of songs.

Ive often picked calm funk and before I know it im after slowly graduating into energetic Jazz. You may not get it spot on straight away but without realizing it you drift into the music your really in the mood for.

So the next time you sit at your computer and think what do I want to listen to. Stop right there and let Musicovery do the thinking, you just go with the flow.
