The following is an interesting article and I wonder how long Dr. Hunt can remain at NIH once the powers that be get wind of this article.

Dr. Hunt is a social and cultural anthropologist.  He has had nearly 30 years experience in planning, conducting, and managing research in the field of youth studies, and drug and alcohol research. Currently Dr. Hunt is a Senior Research Scientist at the Institute for Scientific Analysis and the Principal Investigator on three National Institutes on Health projects. Another Failed Presidency

Barack Obama is on track to have the most spectacularly failed presidency since Woodrow Wilson.  In the modern era, we’ve seen several failed presidencies–led by Jimmy Carter and LBJ.  Failed presidents have one strong common trait– they are repudiated, in the vernacular, spat out. Of course, LBJ wisely took the exit ramp early, avoiding a shove into oncoming traffic by his own party.  Richard Nixon indeed resigned in disgrace, yet his reputation as a statesman has been partially restored by his triumphant overture to China.

But, Barack Obama is failing.  Failing big.  Failing fast. And failing everywhere: foreign policy, domestic initiatives, and most importantly, in forging connections with the American people. The incomparable Dorothy Rabinowitz in the Wall Street Journal put her finger on it: He is failing because he has no understanding of the American people, and may indeed loathe them. Fred Barnes of the Weekly Standard says he is failing because he has lost control of his message, and is overexposed.  Clarice Feldman of American Thinker produced a dispositive commentary showing that Obama is failing because fundamentally he is neither smart nor articulate; his intellectual dishonesty is conspicuous by its audacity and lack of shame.

But, there is something more seriously wrong: How could a new president riding in on a wave of unprecedented promise and goodwill have forfeited his tenure and become a lame duck in six months?  His poll ratings are in free fall.  In generic balloting, the Republicans have now seized a five point advantage.  This truly is unbelievable.  What’s going on?

No narrative. Obama doesn’t have a narrative.  No, not a narrative about himself.  He has a self-narrative, much of it fabricated, cleverly disguised or written by someone else.  But this self-narrative is isolated and doesn’t connect with us.  He doesn’t have an American narrative that draws upon the rest of us.  All successful presidents have a narrative about the American character that intersects with their own where they display a command of history and reveal an authenticity at the core of their personality that resonates in a positive endearing way with the majority of Americans. We admire those presidents whose narratives not only touch our own, but who seem stronger, wiser, and smarter than we are.  Presidents we admire are aspirational peers, even those whose politics don’t align exactly with our own: Teddy Roosevelt, FDR, Harry Truman, Ike, and Reagan.

But not this president. It’s not so much that he’s a phony, knows nothing about economics, and is historically illiterate and woefully small minded for the size of the task–all contributory of course.  It’s that he’s not one of us.  And whatever he is, his profile is fuzzy and devoid of content, like a cardboard cutout made from delaminated corrugated paper.  Moreover, he doesn’t command our respect and is unable to appeal to our own common sense. His notions of right and wrong are repugnant and how things work just don’t add up. They are not existential. His descriptions of the world we live in don’t make sense and don’t correspond with our experience.

In the meantime, while we’ve been struggling to take a measurement of this man, he’s dissed just about every one of us–financiers, energy producers, banks, insurance executives, police officers, doctors, nurses, hospital administrators, post office workers, and anybody else who has a non-green job.  Expect Obama to lament at his last press conference in 2012: “For those of you I offended, I apologize.  For those of you who were not offended, you just didn’t give me enough time; if only I’d had a second term, I could have offended you too.”

Mercifully, the Founders at the Constitutional Convention in 1787 devised a useful remedy for such a desperate state–staggered terms for both houses of the legislature and the executive.  An equally abominable Congress can get voted out next year.  With a new Congress, there’s always hope of legislative gridlock until we vote for president again two short years after that.

Yes, small presidents do fail, Barack Obama among them.  The coyotes howl but the wagon train keeps rolling along.

Where do I get off spouting off like this?   I am a world traveler with over half my life spent living in, yes actually living in not visiting, foreign countries.  I have spent years leaning about religions of the world from actual ‘living fraking people’.  I have a multiethnic/racial family that spans the globe and we all have great love for each other.  All that said I’ve never seen Islam as a positive influence.  That may have to do with the fact that 99% of the death and carnage I’ve seen in my life has been in thae name of Islam.  But who am I to judge.  Oh yeah, an individual with a brain.

“She’s honest, loving and caring, and she respects her father and mother.”

And if she doesn’t, Fulla would likely become an honor killing victim. How long until Mattel officially starts producing Burka Barbie?

There are many African men and women who travel to Saudi Arabia for the religious pilgrimmage, called the Hajj, and then end up staying on in the country in search of a better life than they had back in their native countries. For many, it is a meager existence. Many of the women are unable to find work so they resort to dumpster diving or begging. Others set up shop outside popular businesses where they sell handmade women’s prayer dresses or other products.

Obama ‘Reaches Out’ by Naming ‘Devout’ Muslims to Security Posts

(IsraelNN.com) U.S. President Barack Obama continues to “reach out to Muslims” by appointing them to key security posts amid charges he wrongly ignored internal Muslim terror. One recent appointee was harshly criticized for appearing on a British-based television station whose host is a member of a radical Muslim group.

His “reaching out Muslims” speech in Cairo last June has been followed by action, the latest being this past week’s swearing-in of a Muslim rights advocate to the Homeland Security Advisory Council, shortly after the Fort Hood massacre. HSAC members are involved in expertise on national security.

The new member is Syrian-born Kareem Shora, who was the national executive director of the Arab-American Anti-Discrimination (ADC), which previously has called on the United States to stop providing Israel with weapons because of alleged “atrocities” against Arabs. Her background for her new security post is having been a legal counsel and advocate for Muslim civil rights.

She also has been a frequent guest on the pro-Hamas al-Jazeera satellite network.

Shora, who has been described as a “devout Muslim, joins another devout member of the faith, Arif Alikhan, who was appointed as Assistant Secretary for Policy Development in the Department of Homeland Security. His qualifications for the job were listed as having been in charge of public safety in Los Angeles during his term of deputy mayor. One of his actions was to remove the plan that tracked Muslims in the city who were suspected of terrorist activities.

Americans have been jolted by several lethal attacks and confrontations with Muslims over the past year, including a plot to attack synagogues and down U.S. military aircraft, the manufacture of bombs, an alleged attempt to explode a Texas skyscraper, a plot to blow up malls in Boston, and last month’s Fort Hood massacre by a Muslim psychiatrist who was an officer in the army.

A desire to avoid the appearance of labeling all Muslims as terrorists lunged out from the shadows last month after President Obama faced criticism for not taking seriously the threat of Muslim terrorism within American society as well as in the Middle East, Asia and Africa.

Several months ago, President Obama appointed Dalia Mogahed, a “devout Muslim,” to his Council on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships. She quickly came under fire for appearing in a telephone interview on a London-based Muslim television station, whose host is a member of an extreme Islamic group.

She said was unaware of the affiliations of her host, whose program included questions and comments favoring the implementation of Islamic Law (“sharia”).

Mogahed explained that she did not hang up the phone in the middle of the interview because “I assumed that very few people would watch this show but that doing something more dramatic would bring more attention.”

In the current issue of Newsweek, columnist Jacob Weisberg, citing former Secretary of State Colin Powell, wrote that “Obama’s [Muslim] heritage feeds a broader suspicion that he is too casual about the threat from America’s Islamist enemies.”

The journalist added, “With the massacre in Texas, Obama now confronts something that George W. Bush did not face in the years after September 11—not just a major act of domestic terrorism, but one struck from inside our security apparatus…. America does not face a threat from the perversion of faith in general. We face a threat from the perversion of one faith in particular.”

By all appearances, judgment seems to be heading for the United States of America.  As a watchman giving warning, I am urging everyone who is reading this to please follow the Lord’s Word from Isaiah chapter 55 verses 6-7 which is as follows:

Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:  Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the Lord, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.

May we all take heed to this warning while we still have the chance, because a time is coming when we will not.

For those of you who missed it we have just had  National Interfaith Week and “Islam Awareness Week”

In our region both have been celebrated in great style with colourful and most enjoyable presentations, many organised by West Midlands Faith Forum.

I was able to attend several of the events and was particularly pleased to see young people taking part in such colourful and imaginative ways demonstrating their faith and culture.

My own involvement came through the launch of a new project from Jubilee Debt Campaign – Global Poverty, Seeking Justice: People of Faith in Action This national project, based in Birmingham, will focus on raising awareness amongst all faith groups on the ways we can work together for the common good and in particular the cancellation of international debts.

Our launch event took place at the Bordesley Centre when 120 supporters from the six main faith groups of the city, Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Jewish, Moslem and Sikh.
It was clear from the songs,music and presentations how each faith has at its core so many shared concerns for the poor and the injustice of debt repayments. Wonderful news for me because I know dropping the debt, works!

If you want some examples – teacher numbers doubled in three years in Tanzania, primary school fees were abolished in Ghana, Malawi, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia and in rural areas of Benin. Bolivia and Mauritania. There is improving healthcare, greatly reducing infant and maternal mortality rates in many more poor countries. All this progress because of debt cancellation.

With all faith groups working together I am sure we can benefit in many ways and achieve greater understand at many level. I have already found lots of co workers and friends through being involved.
Something reflected so well in the flyer and poster that are part of the promotion material.

Now we have to find the funds to take forward our plans for a Multifaith conference in the Spring and other educational schemes that will give every faith group an opportunity to bring about positive outcomes for the greater good of all not just in  campaigners in Birmingham but across the region and then to be copied by other UK Jubilee campaign groups. But the real benefit will be the indebted countries having their own money to spend on health and education projects instead of sending it to the rich countries in debt repayment.

The H1N1 Swine Flu virus knows no borders,has no boundaries, and has absolutely no respect for religious or cultural traditions.

This year at the annual Hajj to Mecca,  Four foreign pilgrims have died of swine flu, the Saudi Health Ministry announced on Saturday.

The Saudi Arabia Health Ministry  said none of the four foreign victims had been vaccinated against the H1N1 virus, as has been recommended by The Health Ministry.

An official statement released by the ministry said all had underlying health problems, including cancer and respiratory illness, AFP news agency reported.

Three of the victims died in Medina and one in Mecca.

The BBC is reporting that….up to three million Muslims from around the world take part in the holy pilgrimage every year, but health officials have expressed fears that it could provide a breeding ground for the virus.

Authorities had tried to prepare for any outbreaks by installing thermal cameras at airports and sea terminals, deploying 15,000 additional health workers and ensuring hundreds of extra beds were available.

The Hajj (Arabic: حج‎ Ḥaǧǧ) is a pilgrimage to Mecca. It is currently the largest annual pilgrimage in the world,^[1] and is the fifth pillar of Islam, a moral obligation that must be carried out at least once in their lifetime by every able-bodied Muslim who can afford to do so. The Hajj is a demonstration of the solidarity of the Muslim people, and their submission to Allah (God).^[2] The pilgrimage occurs from the 7th to 13th day of Dhu al-Hijjah, the 12th month of the Islamic calendar. The Health Minister has reported that there are 16 other people that have been diagnosed with swine flu and four remain in hospital in “critical condition”.

He added 12 others had recovered following treatment.

The Saudi government has recommended the elderly, pregnant women, people with chronic diseases and children skip the Hajj this year.

The Saudi government has said all pilgrims need a certificate of vaccination before they can apply for a visa.

This is real people, and this disease is spreading worldwide,at a rapid pace.

I encourage everyone to get a H1N1 swine flu shot as soon as you can.The reports of any side effects are exaggerated, and will cause millions of people to perish from the lack of the vaccine.

Any paranoia surrounding any alledged complications from the shot are totally unsubstantiated, and if those people out there insist on not receiving the vaccine, then we as a society should only expect more mounting mass casualties from the swine flu, as exhibited this weekend, unfortunately in Mecca.

If it can happen in Mecca, it can happen anywhere.

Please everyone, wash your hands, and go get the shot.

Khwaja ‘Abdu’llah Isfahani was yet another of the venerable Khwaja Ala ad-Din’s affiliates. He said: When the venerable Khwaja first honoured me with his company, he recited these verses to me:

Let no trace of you remain;
In this alone perfection lies.
In Oneness make your being naught;
Communion lies in this alone.

Khwaja ‘Abdu’llah Isfahani wrote a very useful treatise on the Order of the Masters of Wisdom, under the patronage of a distinguished descendent of the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace). We shall now present some excerpts from this work:

“The principle rule of this Order [Tariqat i-Khwajagan] is the following: From whichever perfect guide the seeker receives initiation, he must preserve the guide’s image in the treasure of his heart, until the time when he begins to demonstrate how his heart has been affected by the warmth and quality of that connection. As for what is necessary after that, it is not to abandon that same image, but to embrace it much more tightly than ever. The seeker must rivet that image to his heart, with his eyes, his ears and all his faculties.

What is called the “heart” is the centre of the comprehensive human reality, of which all the higher and lower elements of the universe are detailed particulars. The seeker must exert himself to experience the substance of that lofty reality, by expressing the affirmation of Oneness in his heart, using the formula: “There is nothing in existence, other than Allah!” By making this effort, whatever temptation may be whispered, he will consider it as being from Allah and existing because of Allah. This is because that whispered temptation is also one of the mental entities, and also like so many things that are false and absurd, it actually represents a manifestation of the Truth. If this procedure is followed, an ardour will arise in the heart, putting an end to trouble and dispelling dangers.

Even when whispered temptation departs, it is essential to cling to the same relationship. If whispered temptation still refuses to go away, the seeker must pronounce the word “Allah” in a slowly drawn-out manner, while striving to establish the meaning of Oneness in the heart. He must continue to pronounce the word “Allah” until the moment when boredom and weariness overcome the lower self. If signs of tiredness and exhaustion appear, he must desist.

As the spiritual traveller is obliged to know and understand, while he is making progress in the state of detachment from himself, and in his relationship with the great saints, attention to other things amounts to something resembling unbelief [kufr].”

To be in oneself is unbelief [kufr],
while transcending oneself is true faith [iman].

What Obama does not understand, or perhaps he does but discards it, is that America was founded on a decidedly Christian base.

Naturally not all early settlers were biblical believers. But those seeking religious freedom in the New World were by and large Christians. They held to the Scriptures as the Word of God. In doing so, they tried to live out its morals, believe in Jesus as Savior, and prayed to Him.

They taught their children the Christian way, keeping Sunday s a holy day, even using Scripture verses in school texts by which to instruct pupils in the proper way to live.

Obama now wants for America, not merely the European secularization, but Islam World Rule. That is why he has circling him czars in a shadow government who are known as “devout Muslims.”

He had the same in his Senatorial office in Illinois. He used them in his political campaign. Now he has them to right and left making policy and wielding untold power.

This nation surely has its spiritual faults. But it has a Christian heritage that cannot be denied, though Obama would erase it as quickly as possible. He does not want the next generations learning of the facts. He wants an Islamic theocracy in the United States.

So, I don’t want this to be all about cheesy pop music and making fun of my friends and their antics so instead I want to shift tones for a moment and write about Israel.

I can remember there was a day when I was learning Arabic in the military and we were in adiscussion lab talking about the ‘news’ of the day which in an Arabic class normally includes one or two pieces about the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. It was then that our Assyrian Christian teacher from Iraq looked over at Don Iler, USMC and asked him his thoughts on the conflict overall. Diplomatically Don acknowledged that there have been wrongs on both sides and that as he saw it they needed to come together in some sort of agreement. He continued by saying that he didn’t really think that either party wanted to kill the other and had good intentions – in the usual all people are good the situation is just bad sort of logic. Well our non-Muslim, non-Arab teacher was not having any of that! The spittle that had been growing on his lips for the past two minutes began to fly out of his mouth as he began raising his voice at Don – forcing him to see things as they really were in his view : Israel is a country which kills Palestinians unjustly and because they desire to do it. No more, no less.

My Aunt lived in Israel and from talking to her it would seem that Israelis are just like me, you, and my Assyrian teacher : people who make mistakes, have prejudices, and members of nations who have their own interests in mind. Noteworthy is that my Aunt liked it there so much her family often discuss returning to Haifa, where they lived at some point.

It seems like although I am relatively interested in world events and geo-politics that no single issue comes to the forefront more than this one. I can remember years ago taking a class on “Islam and Poltics” followed later in the day by “Israel’s First 50 Years”. The Muslim kids going to both classes with me wearing T-Shirts with the words ‘Free Palestine” across them – the Jewish ones proudly pulling their silver and gold Star of Davids out from under their shirts to display them, thus leaving us bystanders in the class in much the situation of the United States in general during ever day’s class discussion.

That said I try and take a more realist point of view of the whole situation. If I were Israeli, surrounded by nations who refuse to recognize my validity, some of them supporting the idea of my destruction and the death of my citizens if not out-rightly at the very least logistically vis a vis terrorist and militant groups. I can easily see that how every rocket that lands in a field could scare the population into supports military reactions – no matter how unbalanced they are. But imagining for a second that you are Palestinian living day-to-day in Gaza unable to have free movement within the city which bombing and lack of services has turned into a ghettoized wasteland with water you can not drink, electricity that does not flow and human filth which does not drain away. Throw on top of of that the fact that when Hamas decides to shoot a rocket into southern Israel , most of the time missing anything even near a person, the retaliation is usually a barrage by land air and sea in which dozens of people in your community die. This, mind you, is just as much against international law as the militant terrorizing actions of Hamas. So what do you do if you’re Palestinian and you have nothing? Well, you fight with what you have – sometimes all that is if your body.

Now let me say that I am generally against violence overall. I think it’s stupid and pointless and beyond that even I think it’s absolutely atrocious what these two people are doing to each other. And before anyone reads this says anything, in my honest opinion, it has less to do about religion than just good ol’ politics and wealth. There is a reason why all the Jewish settlements are on all the best land : Wealth.  There is a reason why Palestinians are not allowed to return to their homes they lost during the various conflicts : Property (wealth). There is a reason why the Palestinians demand that all of the West Bank be returned : “To have a viable state” which is just a way of saying a state that can have an income. Even the external forces involved have a say in this matter. Syria needs and evil external threat provided by Israel to justify it’s grip on power – So does Iran, although lesser since they always have the USA and Britain as fall-backs.

The point is that the one country I cannot understand the motives of in this equation is the one I am the most familiar with : America. Why is it that the USA supports Israel to the extent it does? In my view both sides do equally atrocious things to one another, so why not give an even handed approach in condemning the two sides?  Why let Palestinians live in their own filth, meanwhile providing Israel with the largest investment of military and financial aide America is willing to give to anyone? (Ironically , one of Israel’s chief competitors, Egypt, receives the second highest amount.) It just perplexes me, especially considering if I may allow the realist in my to be exposed for a second because the Arabs are the ones with the oil. The Arabs are the ones with the natural gas. The Arabs are the ones who control the land from the Atlantic to the Shatt al-Arab – from Turkey to the Blue Nile. Why are we ceding Sudan to the Chinese, allowing Syria and Iran to further alienate us from the broader Middle East, and letting the Arab street continue to ebb and flow its level of frustration over a tiny sliver of land that doesn’t have much to offer other than pilgimage, tourism, and olive oil (all three of which could easily be found in Italy)?

So here’s what I propose : Make all funding of Israel and Palestine humanitarian or developmental in nature, send in a broad force of European, American, and non-Arab Muslim forces to maintain a border and the removal of pre-’67 Jewish settlements in a peaceful manner and deal with whatever violence erupts in a judicious and even-handed way. Clearly the populations there are not ready to initiate these steps themselves but it’s high time America and the rest of the World say enough is enough and we don’t want to be involved in what basically amounts a geo-political version of two cul-de-sac neighbors fighting over an oak tree straddling both their yards.

Kedua, haji merupakan ibadah yang kaya dengan simbol. Di sana terdapat ritual tawaf sebagai simbol totalitas kepasrahan dan kesetaraan ( equality / musawah ) manusia, wukuf di Arafah sebagai simbol perdamaian dan kasih sayang, melempar jumrah sebagai simbol perlawanan, serta sai sebagai simbol perjuangan hidup.

Sosiolog modern, Elizabeth K Nottingham (1994), dalam observasinya sangat optimistis bahwa sepanjang sejarah manusia tidak ada motivator yang paling ampuh memperkaya solidaritas sosial kecuali simbol-simbol tersebut daripada sekadar teori verbal dan logika akademik. Oleh karena itu, adanya simbol-simbol tersebut diharapkan tidak hanya memperkaya horizon pengalaman beragama secara individual saja, tetapi juga bagaimana horizon itu mampu ditransformasikan pada dataran empiris-sosial. Artinya, orang yang telah berpredikat haji diharapkan nantinya menjadi teladan moral bagi lingkungan sekitar. Namun, dari semua bentuk ritual simbolis tersebut, tulisan ini akan lebih menarik jika hanya difokuskan pada persoalan ritual wukuf dan sai lantaran secara geneologis, ternyata kedua ritual itu melibatkan peran seorang perempuan, yaitu Hawa dan Siti Hajar ( istri kedua Nabi Ibrahim ).

Dalam buku Jiwaku adalah Wanita: Aspek Feminim dalam Spiritualitas Islam (1998), Annimarie Schimmel menyatakan, setelah dipisahkan dari surga dan berpisah selama bertahun-tahun, Adam bertemu lagi di pinggir kota Mekkah. Kebetulan Hawa saat itu berada di Bukit Marwah sehingga akhirnya mereka mengenali satu sama lain ( ta’arafah ) di Padang Arafah. Di tempat inilah momentum meeting di antara dua anak manusia terdokumentasikan di Jabal Rahmah, sebuah gunung yang menorehkan kasih sayang hingga karenanya, seluruh jemaah haji diwajibkan melaksanakan wukuf Arafah sebagai simbol perdamaian dan kasih sayang antara laki-laki dan perempuan.

Namun, nilai-nilai filosofis yang termanifestasikan lewat simbol ini kini terasa hilang, khususnya peran perempuan, baik di wilayah domestik maupun publik. Seakan sudah bukan menjadi barang tabu lagi, seorang suami melakukan aksi anarki terhadap istrinya. Bahkan, dengan dalih atas nama agama, tindakan nusyuz, misalnya, justru kian melegitimasi tindakan brutal suami menjadi sesuatu yang absah secara teologis. Di era global ini, jangan dikira kekerasan ( violence ) domestik ini hanya berupa fisik semata, tetapi kini telah jauh menjadi trans kekerasan berupa marital rape ( kekerasan psikologis ), yaitu dalam bentuk penelantaran, penghinaan dan perselingkuhan suami, serta bentuk pelecehan lainnya.

Memang upaya kesadaran gender sebagai langkah konkret merekonstruksi konstruk inferior perempuan sudah gencar dilakukan para aktivis gender. Demikian pula tuntutan agar perempuan diposisikan sebagai mitra sejajar dengan laki-laki telah berhasil menembus sebagian sekat-sekat ketidakadilan gender. Tetapi, menurut Daniar Oesman (2001) dalam artikel ”Perempuan dan Kekerasan Domestik”, terdapat kesan kuat bahwa gaung gender itu sesungguhnya masih terhenti di tingkat wacana akademisi, belum menyentuh batin mayoritas kaum perempuan.

Dengan demikian, praktik ritual wukuf di Arafah yang dilakukan jemaah haji di Mekkah saat ini diharapkan menjadi inspirasi sekaligus sebuah ibrah ( contoh ) bahwa perempuan itu bukanlah makhluk yang diciptakan dari tulang kepala yang harus disanjung dan dijadikan sang ratu, bukan pula ia diciptakan dari tulang kaki yang pantas diinjak dan diperlakukan ibarat sang budak yang senantiasa tabah hati semua keinginan suami. Akan tetapi, perempuan diciptakan dari tulang rusuk yang bengkok dan bisa diluruskan hanya dengan metode, menasihatinya dengan arif dan bijaksana serta penuh kasih sayang.

Adapun ritual haji lain yang berkaitan dengan peran dan jejak perempuan adalah sai, yaitu lari-lari kecil mendaki dan menuruni satu bukit ( Shafa ) ke bukit yang lain ( Marwah ). Ritual ini menyimbolkan upaya Siti Hajar mencari air untuk dirinya sendiri dan anaknya, Ismail. Tindakan beliau sungguh mengindikasikan keteguhan seorang perempuan ( ibu ) dalam mengasuh dan melindungi anak dari ancaman kematian. Namun, lagi-lagi, nilai filosofis itu kini telah terbalik dari seorang perempuan. Kerap kali ritual tersebut hanya berlalu begitu saja seusai manasik haji dilakukan dalam tiap tahunnya.

Perilaku ideal yang pernah dipertontonkan oleh Siti Hajar pada anak yang baru saja dilahirkannya melalui ritual sai mestinya menyadarkan kita betapa seorang anak itu merupakan amanah dan tanggung jawab keluarga dan masyarakat. Namun, saat ini tindakan seorang ibu memperlakukan anaknya dengan cara kurang arif, baik pada tingkat fisik maupun psikisnya, telah menjadi patologis sosial yang menghiasi media massa. Pada tahun 2008 saja, tercatat ada tiga kasus tindakan seorang ibu yang dengan tega hati membunuh bayinya sendiri, seperti yang terjadi di Tangerang (Banten), Temanggung (Jawa Tengah), dan pada bulan ini kasus tersebut mencuat lagi di Jombang (Jawa Timur). Tindakan sadis tersebut dalam ilmu psikologi disebut syndroma baby blow, yaitu perasaan depresi seorang ibu pascamelahirkan lantaran perubahan hormon. Tindakan sadisme ini terus akan menjadi-jadi, bahkan bergerak secara perlahan-lahan manakala kesadaran religiusitas hanya berkutat pada wacana tanpa ada follow up untuk merealisasikannya, termasuk pelajaran yang bisa diambil dari ritual sai.

Dari semua fenomena itu, sungguh ritual wukuf dan sai yang sarat dengan simbol ini mestinya tidak hanya dibingkai menjadi horizon yang indah dipandang, tetapi bagaimana nilai-nilai filosofis yang terkandung di dalamnya menjadi suatu ritus yang harus diterjemahkan dalam kehidupan nyata. Sebab, jika ibadah haji diyakini sebagai rekonstruksi dan tapak tilas terhadap sesuatu yang pernah dilakukan oleh Nabi Ibrahim, secara otomatis ritual wukuf dan sai juga merupakan hal yang sama dari sesuatu yang pernah dilakukan kedua perempuan di atas meskipun peran keduanya sering kali tertutupi oleh peran Nabi Ibrahim yang amat besar. Oleh karena itu, ibadah haji tidak dihukumi sempurna jika tidak melakukan ritual wukuf dan sai. Wallahu a’lam.

You read that right.  Nidal Hasan was on the Homeland Security Policy Institute Presidential Transition Task Force.  An adviser on the Obama transition team.

Obama won’t jump to conclusions about a fellow muslim who guns down 13 people while screaming “allah akbar,” but he will immediately jump to conclusions about a white cop PROPERLY doing his job investigating what appeared to be a break in at the home of one of Obama’s race-baiting buddies.

Why hasn’t anyone covered this?  Where is CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, NBC, The Washington Post, The New York Times, The Chicago Sun Times, and all of the other liberal rags on a story like this?

An update to this previous Creeping Sharia post about the Atlanta-area mosque who wanted to buy the mayor’s property to build a bigger mosque slash shrine to an Islamic warrior. The plan was denied and as warned, litigation jihad will follow. But first, some real jihad. From CBS Atlanta:

LILBURN, Ga. — The Lilburn City Council voted against a proposed mosque. Dar-E-Abbas is planning to take the decision to Federal Court. They say the decision violates their religious rights.

The Council’s decision was unanimous. They cited nine reasons to reject the proposal including: spot zoning, effects on the land and traffic. Religion was not on the list.

LILBURN — A Lilburn woman said her family was threatened and harassed as they traveled home from a City Council meeting about a controversial mosque.

Janie Hood, whose family once farmed the area where the mosque was proposed, said “Middle Eastern” men who seemed to be associated with the congregation “boxed” her daughter’s car in as they traveled down U.S. Highway 29 on Wednesday night.

She said the men began calling threats out their windows and drove erratically, keeping her daughter from turning off the highway from the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center in Lawrenceville, where the meeting was held, until Lilburn police stopped them inside the city limits.

Hood had spoken at an earlier hearing on the issue, but she said she did not know if the men targeted her because she wore a red shirt to express her opposition to the proposal, which was defeated by the council Wednesday.

“It put me, it put my two grandchildren and it put my daughter in danger,” she said. “They were trying to hurt us.”

While Lilburn police took statements from the victims and the suspects, no one was arrested.

Hood said she was trying to pursue a warrant, although because the incident crossed three police jurisdictions, there are questions over which police force would pursue the charges.

Sgt. Stephen Weed of the Lilburn Police Department said the criminal investigation will be handled by either Lawrenceville or Gwinnett police.

Hood said many of her neighbors witnessed the incident and called 911, as both she and her daughter did during the ordeal.

In the police report, the driver of one vehicle said he left the courthouse and was driving slowly because of foggy conditions.

Friday Khutbah (Sermons) : Hajj – A Symbol of Tawheed
- by Imam Al-Haramain Husayn ibn ‘Abdul ‘Aziz Aal Sheikh
from the Masjid Al-Haram in Makkah, Dhul-Qa’dah 29, 1421 (February 23, 2001)

The Transcript:

All praise is due to Allah. May His peace and blessings be upon the Prophet saws, his household and companions.

Fellow Muslims! The greatest issue and the obligation upon every human being is At-Tawheed (to have belief in the oneness of Allah and to act in accordance to it.) It is only with Tawheed that one attains good and comfort and without it one’s lot will be misery and hardship. That is why no stage of the Prophet’s (SAW) mission was devoid of calling into Tawheed and waging war against Shirk and its manifestations. All pillars of Islam confirm the importance of Tawheed and embody it, for it is the root of those pillars, while the pillars are its branches and fruit.

Hajj, which is one of the pillars of Islam, is a great symbol of the actualisation of Tawheed in one’s worship, direction and aim. Allah says:

“And for every nation We have appointed religious ceremonies, that they may mention the Name of Allah over the beast of cattle that He has given them for food. And your Ilah (God) is one Ilah, so you must submit to Him alone (in Islam). And (O Muhammad (SAW)!) give glad tidings to the Mukhbitin (those who obey Allah with humility and are humble from among the true believers of Islamic Monotheism).” (Surah Al Hajj, 22:34)

Dear brothers, let us now study some illustrations that reveal the spirit of Hajj in the light of these points:

1. The Prophet (SAW) entered into the state of Ihraam with At-Tawheed. Jaabir (RA) said,

“And he started his Ihraam with At-Tawheed when he said:

Labbayka Allahumma labbayk, labbayka laa shareeka laka labbayk. Innal-hamda wan-ni’mata laka wal-mulk, laa shareeka lak.

(Meaning: I respond to Your call, O Allah I respond to Your call. I respond to Your call, You have no partner. I respond to Your call. Indeed, the praise and grace are yours as well as sovereignty. You have no partner.)”

One must raise his voice with it for, the Prophet (SAW) said,

“The best Hajj is the one in which the voice is raised with Talbiyah and blood of sacrificial animals flow.”

It is a talbiyah of the one who feels that all acts of worship should compulsorily be directed to Allah alone and realises the danger of shirk and other destructive sins; a talbiyah of the one who sacrifices to none but Allah, calls none but Allah and seeks relief from none except Allah. The pilgrim keeps on reciting this talbiyah until he casts the pebbles of Jamratul-’Aqabah.

2. It is authentically reported from the Prophet (SAW) that during his Tawaaf he only touched the Yamanee Corner and Al-Hajar Al-Aswad. If the pilgrim however finds difficulty in touching them he should point to Al-Hajar Al-Aswad and say, “Allahu Akbar” once as he passes by it. As regards the Yamanee Corner, he should not point to it if he cannot touch it. This is done in order to come closer to Allah, and carry out His commandments. Allah says:

“So let them worship the Lord of this House.” (Surah Quraysh, 106:3)

The Prophet (SAW) also said,

“Circumambulation of the House; running between Safaa and Marwa, and casting the pebbles is only ordained for establishment of the remembrance of Allah.”

These rites were performed by the Prophet (SAW) solely for the purpose of worshipping Allah, and not for the purpose of seeking blessings therefrom. That is why ‘Umar (RA) said when kissing Al-Hajar Al-Aswad,

“By Allah! I know that you are only a stone. You neither benefit nor harm. If it were not that I saw the Prophet (SAW) kissing you, I would not have kissed you.” (Al-Bukhari & Muslim)

Scholars have agreed that it is not permissible to touch or kiss other than what is reported in the Sunnah that the Prophet (SAW) has touched or kissed. Al-Athram -a companion of Imaam Ahmad-said,

“I saw that people of knowledge among the inhabitants of Madinah did not use to touch the Prophet’s (SAW) grave, they would only stand at a corner and say their salaam to him.”

Abdul-Hasan said,

“Under Islamic Law, the touching and kissing of graves are regarded to be abominable innovations.” He further said, “The Khuraasaanee Jurists said, “Graves should not be rubbed, kissed or touched for that is the practice of Christians.”

At-Tahaawee -the Hanafite scholar- said,

“Graves should not be touched nor kissed for that is the custom of the People of the Book.”

In Islam, nothing is known to be touched except Al-Hajar Al-Aswad and the Yamanee Corner.

3. The running between As-Safaa and Al-Marwa has been prescribed as a pillar of Hajj and ‘Umrah. This is so that pilgrims may be reminded of Hajar and her son (Prophet Ismail (AS)) and the hardship they experienced and how Allah caused Zamzam water to gush forth for them to quench their thirst and as a healing for the sick. Thereby making Muslims believe that refuge should be sought with Allah alone. Allah says:

“Is not He Who responds to the distressed one when he calls Him and Who removes the evil (better than their gods).” (Surah Al Naml, 27:62)

It also makes him know definitely that sincere dependence on Allah coupled by making use of the means is the gateway to success and attainment of desired things.

4. That there is no prosperity or success in this world except through following the path of Prophet (SAW), having faith and doing good deeds. It is in the light of this that he said,

“Take from me your Hajj rites.”

The eagerness of the Companions was embodied in this saying of Ibn Abbaas (RA):

“Do your Hajj as the Prophet (SAW) did his, and do not say: This is sunnah and this is compulsory.”

One of the greatest aims of Hajj is to remember his guidance and to adhere to his path without negligence or exaggeration. The Prophet (SAW) said,

“Whoever performs a deed on which there is no order from us will have it rejected.”

To emphasise the importance of moderation and shunning of exaggeration and negligence in everything, Ibn Abbaas (RA) narrated that:

The Prophet (SAW) told him to fetch his pebbles on the morning of ‘Aqabah (i.e. the tenth day of Dhul-Hijjah) while he was on his camel. He said, “I fetched him seven throwing-pebbles. He started sorting them out in his fingers saying, ‘Throw ones like these.’ He then said, ‘O you people! Keep away from extremism in religion, for that which destroyed those who came before you was extremism in religion.’”

Dear brothers, let this great occasion be an avenue for self-examination. Let it be an opportunity for renewing ones allegiance to the book of Allah and the sunnah of His Prophet (SAW). Let it be a time when one shuns exaggerations and negligence in all sorts of worship. Let it also be known that Hajj should not be an occasion where one accuses his brother of abominable things without clear evidence.

Brothers in faith! Adhere to the guidance of the Leader of the Messengers, Muhammad (SAW). Whoever follows his path shall prosper and achieve everlasting happiness. Further, only when this ummah recognises the true guidance of its religion and the path of its Prophet in its true sense that it will attain glory and might. It was said,

“Islam shall become a hard rock upon which the evangelical ships are crumbled as long as the pillars; Al-Quran, Friday Prayers and the Hajj gathering, remain firm.”

Fellow Muslims! Some highly important days have come upon us. They are the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah. Allah swore by them as a token of their importance and merit and to stress the great reward of those who do righteous deeds in them. He says,

“By the dawn! By the Ten Nights!” (i.e. the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah).  (Surah Al Fajr, 89:1-2)

The Prophet (SAW) also said,

“There are no days in which good deeds are more loved by Allah than these days.”

Meaning the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah. The Companions (RA) said, “Even jihad in the way of Allah?” He replied, “Even jihad in the way of Allah, with the exception of a man who goes out for jihad with his soul and his wealth, and does not return with either.” (Al-Bukhari)

Good deeds, dear brothers, include righteous sayings, actions and behaviour. An important aspect of that is to visit Muslims wherever they may be, to feel concerned about their affairs, to alleviate their sufferings and to pray for them.

Brothers in Islam! It is recommended to do a lot of Tahleel (saying ‘La ilaha illa Allah’), Takbeer (saying ‘Allahu Akbar’) and Tahmeed (saying ‘Al-hamdu lillah’) in these days. Also, if anyone wants to make a sacrifice for ‘Eid, and it is already in the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah, he should not cut his hair or nails. The Prophet (SAW) said,

“When you see the moon of Dhul-Hijjah let any one of you who intends to sacrifice an animal for ‘Eid not take anything from his hair or nails until he has made the sacrifice.” (Muslim)

This prohibition is only binding on those who want to sacrifice. As for those on whose behalf a sacrifice is to be made, they are not included in this prohibition.

On this great occasion, we sincerely appeal to eminent Muslim personalities to recognise the enormous responsibilities they have to shoulder so that they can make use of these noble days to propagate Islam and spread the good virtues that Islam promotes in accordance with the commandments of Allah and respect to His limits and injunctions. We should always follow this method, be it during Hajj or other days.

Thank the State Department for importing Islamic jihad from Somalia. The al-Qaeda linked group is al Shabaab, the group a continuous stream of Minnesota Muslims have been arrested for recently. Patrick Poole via Pajamas Media has the details.

…many inside the Columbus Somali community are fixing their suspicions on leaders of another local Somali mosque, Masjid Ibn Taymiya. This mosque is dominated by supporters of the al-Shabaab terrorist group, and members have made repeated attempts to take over the rapidly growing Salama congregation through an unsuccessful campaign of legal and physical intimidation.

Following the blaze, I met with two leaders of Masjid Salama, who described the ongoing efforts by the leaders of Ibn Taymiya to take over their burgeoning year-and-a-half-old congregation. On November 12, the Salama leaders had to obtain a temporary restraining order to prevent the bulldozing of their rented facility by a leader of the Ibn Taymiya mosque, Mohamed Hassan, who, they say, is the ringleader of the campaign.

“The first thing Hassan did was to obtain the lease rights to the property we rented, and then use his contacts in City Hall to try to illegally evict us,” one of the Salama leaders said. In fact, Hassan took the Salama mosque to court earlier this month, only two weeks after the arson at the mosque property, claiming that they had not paid rent — a claim that was soundly rejected by the judge when the Salama leaders provided canceled copies of the rent checks for the past year. Hassan had also rejected checks for the past three months rent.

But Hassan’s harassment campaign began earlier this year when he obtained trespassing orders from the Columbus prosecutor’s office. According to the Salama leaders, Hassan hoped to force them from the mosque property, change the locks overnight, and reopen the mosque the following day with a new imam appointed by Ibn Taymiya. That plan failed when it was pointed out that the mosque property wasn’t even in the Columbus prosecutor’s jurisdiction, making the orders invalid.

The Salama leaders said that Hassan then sent a team of “mediators,” who proposed that the entire Salama board resign, but the current imam would be retained and the “mediators” would appoint a new board. Needless to say, the Salama leaders rejected the proposal out of hand:

These people have nothing to do with our mosque. Who are they to demand mediation for anything? And all the proposals these mediators proposed would get rid of our board and finish the takeover of our mosque. This new board they would appoint would get rid of our imam as soon as they were in place. Why would we ever agree?

Not long after came the fire that has closed Salama ever since and the unsuccessful judicial hearing on the bogus claims that the mosque had not paid its rent.

Atheists don’t shoot up military posts because they can’t reconcile their religion and their oaths to serve their country.

För en knapp vecks sedan släppte (!)  socialdemokraternas kvinnoförbunds ordförande, Nalin Pekgul, en artikel i DN: “Vi måste våga ifrågasätta den religiösa extremismem”  ”Hon är utbildad sjuksköterska och troende muslim. Hon föddes i Kurdistan och kom till Sverige som flyktingbarn 1980 då hon var 13 år.”  (jag har tidigare skrivit om  hennes utsläpp från 26 okt)

Hennes DN-artikel handlar om den muslimska fundamentalismen i Rinkeby 2009 och att en del muslimska ungdomar vill att andra muslimska ungdomar inte skall gå på disco för att det inte är förenligt med muslimsk tro. Man kan undra om hon fått tag i en bok och läst men inte alls förstått …… eller något sådant …… för hon anser att:

“De ungdomar som vill dansa och lyssna på musik i Rinkeby år 2009 borde få lika bestämt skydd mot extremister som de nio i Little Rock 1957.” (DN länk ovan)

Vilken jämförelse! Att hon bara orkar, det är ju historielöst så det stinker och ger typ mulliga mansgrisar vatten på sin kvarn att säga: “Äsch, det är ju bara en kvinna” och därefter fördjupa sig i skitsnacket om dumma kvinnor.

Vidare skriver NP:

“Vi kan inte acceptera att samhället glider isär. Rättsystemet måste reagera. Vi måste våga ta debatten om extremismen. Från den högsta nivån i samhället vill vi höra ett tydligt ställningstagande för ett samhälle som omfattar alla.” (a a)

Vilka vi??????? Det blir ju en omöjlighet för alla att tycka att samhället omfattar dem när en del inte vill omfattas. Och hur skall ”rättsystemet” reagera? Sätta dem som inte tänker som NP i finkan kanske. 

Och till sist klämmer NP till med

“Kungen hade till exempel i sitt tal vid riksdagens öppnande kunnat uppmärksamma att den muslimska fastemånaden ramadan pågick och att eid al-fitr skulle firas nästkommande söndag. Det skulle ha visat alla unga muslimer att de betraktas som en del av Sverige och att de inte ska köpa extremisternas budskap.” (a a)

……. och typ mulliga mansgrisar jublar högt över allt vatten de får på sin kvarn om dumma kvinnor och div kvinnoför(or)eningar. Sedan vore det kanske t o m synd om kungen som i så fall skulle stå och läsa och rabbla upp alla “dagar” för alla gruppers tro ……. för får en, får alla!!!! Eller det skall kanske göras undantag för muslimer för att NP själv är muslim.

Idag finns på Newsmill en artikel med rubriken Våga ifrågasätta den sekulära extremismen! av Porang Zahedi som är 24 år, har iransk bakgrund och betraktar sig som en troende muslim. Och hans artikel är svar på Nalin Pekguls ovan kommenterade DN-artikel. 

PZ skriver att:

“Nalin Pekgul kallar upprepade gånger de muslimska ungdomarna för “extremister”. Men detta är inget mer en term som används mot meningsmotståndare som man anser gått för långt. Om media mot all förmodan låter Rinkebyungdomarna komma till tals är jag övertygad om att de skulle kalla Pekgul för en sekulär extremist som vill tala om för andra vad man bör tänka och tycka.” (aa)

Ja ovanciterade spekulationen låter trolig. Vidare anser PZ att:

“Det är med andra ord inte någon större skillnad mellan en muslim (exempelvis jag själv) som stödjer Rinkebyungdomarnas rätt att missionera, och Nalin Pekgul, som stödjer feministers rätt att göra detsamma.” (a a)

Och även det ovanciterade låter troligt. Kanske får han även poäng för följande:

Nalin Pekgul kan pga av sin invandrarbakgrund säga en hel del i invandrarfrågor som kanske ingen annan vågar säga för då blir de kallade både rasister och islamfober utan att vara det. Men ibland börjar det lukta lite misstänkt av inskränkthet och även en smak av röstfiskeri kan skymta i bakgrunden, det är ju snart valår.
