Not only is the animation of this video amazing, but the use of sounds and music to create the soundtrack is fantastic. A must see!

Obwohl  es sich bei Muto schon um einen etwas älteren Vertreter der StopMotion Kategorie handelt, ist er dennoch für mich einer der besten überhaupt!! Immer wieder faszinierend auf welche Ideen manche Leute kommen.

Wer wissen will wie Muto entstanden ist, findet bei Combo die Antwort!! Der selbe Stil, nur dass sich die Künstler jetzt selbst in dem Video bei der Arbeit zeigen…Das Resultat ist genauso beeindruckend.

Und nur mal so nebenbei, was ist Graffiti eigentlich für’n geiles Wort!!!

Essa semana que tinha tudo para ser tranquila acabou se mostrando muito atribulada, e hoje, sexta-feira, pude, finalmente, me dedicar ao blog.

Muto foi premiada como Melhor Animação desse ano no Festival Anima Mundi e se trata de uma animação italiana simplesmente genial feita em um muro. É muito loca e criativa. Fiquei admirada ao assistir.

Meu grande amigo Jule me passou um link semana passada, e como ele mesmo disse, não se sabe explicar o por que de se gostar tanto desse video, pode ser a expontâneidade da narradora, a irreverência da história…não sei definir.

Public art by it’s nature is accessible to everyone.  But what if your favorite public artist makes work halfway across the world?  All I have to say is thank goodness for the internet and it’s ever-humbling ability to bring hidden walls from around the world right into my living room.

I came across this amazing animation by mural artist and film-maker Blu quite some time ago.

Barely more than a month ago, Blu collaborated with David Ellis on this equally beautiful piece at Fame Festival in Italy (check out the work from 2008 as well!)

I am so in love with this work not just for it’s visual sensibility, but for it’s performative quality.  The movement and visible decision-making fascinates me.  Wonder how much a ticket to fly to next year’s festival would be……

BLU, the Bologna-based street artist and wall-art animator, has recently teamed up with David Ellis, a Brooklyn-based “motion painter,” to produce the animated work COMBO, an amazing piece of urban re-inhabitation that imaginatively brings dead urban space back to life through the use of paint and stop motion.  In the opening sequence of COMBO, a pile of scrap wood is dropped into a well, which then becomes a mouth.  The mouth digests the wood, a face appears, and twin spires of fire exit from recently opened eyes.  This is clearly a visual representation of a kind of imaginative awakening, an awakening fueled by the detournement of the non-space of everyday urban existence into an artistic space of play and encounter.  BLU and Ellis are like the mouth of the well, digesting the raw material of the space around them and converting it into a dreamspace that overwhelms the dead container from which it has originated.  In a way, the work of BLU and Ellis fits right in with Guy Debord’s idea of revolutionary urbanism:

Revolutionary urbanists will not limit their concern to the circulation of things and of human beings trapped in a world of things. They will try to break these topological chains, paving the way with their experiments for a human journey through authentic life.

COMBO and MUTO (an earlier wall-animation by BLU) are nothing if not experimental works that have the aim of bringing the city back to life by breaking open spaces for a new awareness of the urban order that surrounds us.  In both MUTO and COMBO there are moments where bricks are pushed out of walls and animated life pours from the holes that are left behind.  This is reminiscent of the famous Situationist International slogan, “Sous les pavés, la plage!” (“Beneath the paving stones — the beach!”), except that in this case the beach is the imagination unleashed in order to turn spaces of alienation into spaces of procreation.

Gracias a la recomendación del video COMBO por parte de Gerardo Bañales, dimos con el que ya es uno de nuestros artistas urbanos favoritos: Blu. Este italiano, por el perfil que caracteriza su trabajo, podría decir que es un muralista moderno, pero también, un animador callejero al que sólo le interesan los grandes proyectos, y por lo tanto, los grandes espacios. Milán, Barcelona. Berlín, Nueva York son algunas de las ciudades donde ha puesto su firma. Les dejo algunos de sus muros y un par de videos alucinantes y agotadores, al mismo tiempo. Ya verán porque lo digo.

Après des années à regarder et apprécier le travail de l’autre, l’artiste de rue l’Italien Blu et le peintre et réalisateur américain David Ellis ont trouvé une occasion de travailler ensemble lors du Fame Festival 2009. Le fruit de leur collaboration est COMBO une magnifique animation réalisée sur les murs de Grottaglie (Italie).  Sur le net le travail de Blu a rapidement été remarqué et relayé de sites en blogs. Sa dernière animation MUTO a été visionnée près de
3 millions de fois.

Uno de los videos más espectaculares que han pasado por Tres de Cuatro realizados en stop motion ha sido el del grafitero y artista italiano Blu. Aquel video faraónico lo llamó Muto y lo podéis volver a ver aquí. Ahora Blu vuelve a sorprender junto con el grafitero David Ellis realizando otro video en el que combina otra vez la técnica del graffiti con la del stop motion. Y de nuevo me vuelvo a quedar con la boca abierta ante tal genialidad. Diez días entre pinturas e instantáneas para poder llegar a lo que vais a ver a continuación.

Tiesto has worked with acclaimed Japanese director Muto to create the new video for his latest track I Will Be Here.

The new single, a collaboration with Sneaky Sound System, is taken from his forthcoming album Kaleidoscope.

“It was interesting to see how Tiesto’s music could be incorporated into the essence of Tokyo.  One of the main elements of this is the hard working ethic of the Japanese office worker.  He works until the late hours of the night and until the song is over then he goes to sleep.  Every day is the same routine for him, like working late a night, taking the subway and following the same course.  In many ways he is like robot but this time he has got a special mission.  He needs to spread Tiesto’s sound through the streets of Tokyo injecting energy into the grey buildings and streets,” commented Muto about working on the project.

The single was released in the UK on 14 September.

I found this over on Short Film Blog, it’s an animated piece by artist BLU.

The recession has forced me to cut back on what I can donate to artists when I see something that illustrates a mind-boggling amount of thankless work, but in this case I had to scratch out some coin and paypal it forward. This is stunning.
