The random happenings in my life during November 2009. The names of the guilty have been changed. But they should know who they are. I might even be subject to some retribution…….

Well what can I say? My birthday passed by. It was a four day celebration of sport, food and general enjoyment. Thanks to everyone, especially the PALS tribe. What would I do without you? Um, er, pass!

A young me...........just where did it all go wrong????

And now time for a moan. Yes, another one. Christmas stuff in the shops before Halloween. I can just about live with that, but don’t like it. But it got worse. Yes, really. I read that there were Christmas jingles on the radio on 15 November. In Peru mind. Just WTF? I will be having words with Paddington Bear next time I’m at the station. I’m sure he had an influence on the matter.

Council Tax wise, I am in the remit of South Gloucestershire. These guys have no idea that there is a recession on. Perfectly functioning street lights have been taken down and replaced by new “light pollution” energy efficient ones. So I can see the night sky better. Oh crap, I’ve paid for that. Why replace perfectly good working ones en mass? Apart from buying them, there is the workman’s wages for the installation. Lordy me. I’m going purple with rage. Grrrrr

And now onto South Glos – part 2. Local side road is closed and diversion in place. I duly wander around to see what’s happening and find a solitary workman. The road is being re-surfaced. But they are digging down about 18″. Is this a bodge job? And it’s a road I regularly cycle down and I didn’t think it was too bad. As for the awful bit of road on the main drag….well, yes you have correctly guessed it is untouched.

As you may well know, I’m a useless salesman. Couldn’t even sell a box of matches for a gas hob. But I do know a good thing when I see it and I have no reservations in plugging something. Being brought up in Cornwall taught me about rural life. And as I get older, I come across people who have had heart attacks. So when I came across AED Locator, I just had to find out more.. They provide public access defibrillators in cabinets. They are available to everyone and are required when a cardiac arrest is suspected. Saving lives HAS to be good! www.aedlocator.org

Young Whits commenced her paramedic training with a couple of night shifts. I’m pleased to report she thoroughly enjoyed it. She had the baptism of fire with a fatality on her first “shout”. Top marks m’gal.

Here in Bristol it continues to be warm, albeit very wet and windy. My rule is to wear shorts for as longer time as possible. So I’m still wearing them. Luverly jubbly.

I realised that I continue to suffer from the disease of oddness. Just why is it that I do my grocery shopping, stuff the fridge full of goodies – and then get a take-a-way. Just what is that all about?

This month’s overseas news comes from The Engineer. He moved to Thailand recently and is still sorting his house out. Thai builders really do multi-task to levels of astonishment. They do a motorbike taxi service in the evenings. And then drive busses at the weekend. And they might even run a weekend market trader stall as well. And they might even do all this whilst getting drunk on the local brew. Can your builder do all this?

I’ve had many long and enjoyable phone calls this month with Man from Lydney. We put the world to rights big time. Put us together and the world ducks in terror. Fantastic stuff.

I was moved enough to sign my very first e-petition. So I was obviously a bit riled then! The UK Government wants to cut off internet access to those who illegally download copyrighted files. No bad thing BUT the flaw is if someone hacks your connection – you get cut off. Not fair. Surely the law should be used to protect the innocent? http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/dontdisconnectus

Are you sat comfortably? Good. I have a major revelation. My back garden is sorted. Yes, I’m as shocked as you are. Bulbs, primroses, lily’s the whole works. Even a dedicated herb section. Marvellous! So what brought that on then I hear you cry. Ok, Ok, the fabulous AA took control and did it. Me garden? Pha, tish and tosh.

The month ended with the closure of Masters Snooker Club. The Tiler and I have played there for many years. Mike ran the club for 25 years. The lease expired and as he was 65, retirement called. We believe the landlord will develop the premises, but what into? It’s a prime location but surely too noisy for re-development into flats?

Burger boy joined in for the final snooker session. For reasons that left me baffled, he spent an inordinate amount of time fiddling with his belt and trousers. And not a girl in sight either. Should I be worried?

And the late breaking news is that the L of PALS lost her first tooth. Apart from the usual money under the pillow, the Tooth Fairy left a letter. L insists the writing looks familiar, but cannot remember whose it is. A classic example of being (almost) too smart for your own good!

Having not had a serious bike ride for ages, I picked a hard one to start with. Only 12 miles, but very “lumpy”. Best guess is that only 2 mile on the flat with a couple of tough hills to climb. To give you an idea of steepness, I hit 30 mph on the two big downhills. I managed the trip effortlessly. Just how did I do that? Genuinely surprised at how I kept my fitness level up. And then it rained none stop. Sometimes there was a gale to go with it as well. Confined to quarters.

A different question to end on this month. Lots of people seem to have forgotten the word “no”. I’ve said “no” loads of times this year and it hasn’t done me any harm. Go on, give it a whirl…….

General Randomness

I’ve found time to do a bit of writing this month and the articles are:

Overkill http://smarty09.wordpress.com/2009/11/14/overkill/

Technology http://smarty09.wordpress.com/2009/11/02/technology/

Sports News

Not much sport watched this month. On the football side, there was a break for the International games. And then the league fixtures were not kind. Clashes everywhere. Oh well, stuff happens.

And the quality of the Rugby was pretty bad. Oh dear England, just what is going on?

Well, as far as I am concerned, there was just one important football story. Thierry Henry, the French football captain deliberately handled the ball and a goal was scored. That meant the French qualified for next summers World Cup. Officials did not see the incident, but cameras did. After a huge public outcry Henry apologised for his lack of sportsmanship. You cheat! The world will view you differently now sunny jim.

Gosh, have just read that motorbike racing is to go “green”. There are to be four electric motorbike races in 2010. FIM said “as the governing body of motorcycle sport, we must take into account current environmental problems”. Yes well done. You are being seen to do good. Did you mention the MotoGP circus takes up 2.5 jumbo jets of room per race? No!?????

After more than a decade of capped rates for the generation portion of my bill, the rate cap expires on 12/31/2009. In other words, our electric company will be hiking their rates. “Up your’s Mr. or Ms. Average Citizen who is barely keeping your head above water as it is, we are gonna get a bigger piece of you.”

However, even though we’ll still get two pieces of you, you can now choose who gets that third larger bite out of your ass. Will it be us? We guarantee you that your new rate is going to shock and awe you. Will you go to one of the companies that we aren’t naming right now, later? Later? Come on, you are giving me less than a month to research rates of companies who I have no idea what they are even named and oh yeah, you really haven’t given me any incentive to stay with you.

What the $%@&# do you think I’m going to do? I’m a high class electrical power whore. I want the company who’s gonna screw me the least. Wine me, dine me, make me a good offer, and I’ll make you mine.

A petition has been raised on the Number 10 Downing Street website about the Climate Research Unit at the centre of the “Climategate” allegations that I wrote about yesterday. (It wasn’t raised by me, I hasten to add, but by one Mike Haseler.)

The petition reads:

We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to suspend the Climate Research Unit at the University of East Anglia from preparation of any Government Climate Statistics until the various allegations have been fully investigated by an independent body.

The very least we need is a proper investigation of the very serious allegations against the CRU, so I urge you to sign up. If that petition gains enough signatures, it will pile more pressure on the mainstream media to stop ignoring the scandal.

You can sign up to the petition at:

Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet has revealed that key decision makers at the World Health Organization (WHO) are also being paid by the pharmaceutical companies manufacturing the vaccine.

In the run-up to declaring swine flu as a pandemic, the WHO held an “Emergency Committee” which consisted of 18 “secret” scientists and medical professionals who met to decide whether to recommend upgrading swine flu to a pandemic. No one is allowed to know the name of these 18 people and the final decision is taken by the head of the WHO Director-General Margaret Chan.

Svenska Dagbladet thought this sounded a tiny bit undemocratic so decided to dig into the mysterious identities of this secretive board and guess what? Some of them are moonlighting for the pharmaceutical industry in consultation and advisory roles. Three of the fifteen members of the Emergency Committee have contacts with the pharmaceutical industry and receive money directly from vaccine companies according to the paper.

I notice that very few media or internet sites have picked-up on this story yet which is a little strange because it’s a rather serious conflict of interest don’t you think?

There is a rather complicated graphic here illustrating various links between the WHO and the pharmaceutical companies manufacturing the swine flu vaccine.

The Climategate scandal is growing worse. The Climate Research Unit at the University of East Anglia has now admitted that it has discarded 150 years-worth of original temperature reading data that it used to compile its climate database.

The scandal originally erupted when details of internal e-mails within the CRU were leaked on the internet, via a server in Russia. The CRU has subsequently admitted that at least some of the e-mails leaked were genuine. The mainstream media, especially the BBC, have almost completely ignored the story. But the bloggers haven’t ignored it. If you run a search on Google today for “Climategate” you get an estimated 12,900,000 results:

This new admission by the CRU is astonishing. They have said that the paper and tapes holding the data were dumped to save space when they moved to a new building. Regardless of the fact that this now prevents anyone independent auditing their work, the historical value of this carelessly thrown-away data was substantial. No serious research institute would treat its original data in such a sloppy fashion.

There have been calls for the director of the CRU to resign. Whether he does so or not is now immaterial. It is now abundantly clear that the CRU is completely discredited. If that unit is not now disbanded, it will affect the reputation of the whole University of East Anglia.

I have been following Denverthen’s excellent posts on the subject among others – but they just touch the tip of this iceberg. What is not clear to me is whether this completely undermines the whole man-made global warming theory. After all, other centres have also been working in this field. The CRU have said that their data leads to the same results as the data held by other centres. Do those other centres still have their original readings, or have they also been sloppy enough to throw them away?

Unless other centres working on climate change can demonstrate that their work did not rely on that of the CRU, then the importance of this affair cannot be over-emphasised. It is not just the CRU that is discredited. Their entire output has also been undermined by this. The e-mails that were leaked seem to demonstrate that the scientists at the unit massaged data to fit their theories. And now they claim the original data has been lost – so, conveniently, nobody can go back and check exactly what they really did do.

Image the drugs company that produced Thalidomide had their safety research questioned. Imagine they then said that they had lost their original data but asked people not to worry because they still had their conclusions handy. They would rightly be pilloried. It would be front page news on the BBC, for a start.

It is becoming really hard to avoid seeing this as a cover-up. It really does seem that the mainstream media are deliberately suppressing this astonishing story. Which is going to be the first mainstream paper in Britain to put its head above the parapet and make this front page news?

And why did those who leaked the story need to put the data on a server in Russia? Did they expect that if it was put somewhere else it would get quietly suppressed?

This really is not just front page news, but mega-news. This is the biggest scientific scandal of my lifetime. The global warming theory has been integrated into every strand of government policy, and not just in the UK, but around the world. Billions of pounds have already been spent, and the politicians and “scientists” (sorry, but I think they do really need those apostrophes until they can justify their work properly) involved want us to go ahead and spend trillions of pounds more. They want our lifestyles changed in fundamental ways, and they want increased control over our every-day lives to force those changes.

Indeed, the Telegraph today is reporting that the “world’s leading climate change scientist”, Rajendra Pachauri, the chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), has said that imposing hefty taxes and increasing electricity monitoring is needed to combat the ways of adults who have been “corrupted” by their daily routines. It seems that the fact that the science upon which the whole IPCC is based has now been very seriously called into question has entirely escaped him. Like the rest of the global warming brigade, he seems to think that if he puts his head in the sand like an ostrich, the scandal will all go away and the IPCC can get back to business as usual.

(Let’s look at Mr Pachauri’s background by the way. This “leading climate change scientist” was educated at the Indian Railways Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, and began his career at the Diesel Locomotive Works in Varanasi. He has served in the Department of Economics and Business at NC State. He has an MS degree in Industrial Engineering, and a joint PhD in Industrial Engineering and Economics. I’m not sure whether that really makes him a climate scientist.)

Every day that the climate change movement and the IPCC go on trying to ignore this astonishing scandal, it will provide yet more ammunition to sceptics of the whole theory. Two weeks ago, I was undecided on the whole climate change debate. Today, thanks to the antics of the miserable individuals involved in Climategate, I now think it is likely that the man-made climate change theory is rubbish. And if I think that, I won’t be the only one.

Mr Pachauri and his friends need to get back to basics and prove that other centres whose work is completely unconnected with CRU, and not reliant on CRU’s data, can demonstrate the truth of the theory. They also need to publish (if they haven’t already been published) the raw data upon which the other centres based their work, so that their work can be properly checked and verified by unconnected outsiders. The essence of the scientific process (that appears to have been ignored in such a cavalier fashion by CRU) is that other centres should be able to repeat any experiments and verify the results.

The public at large are now going to take some convincing that the whole man-made global warming theory is not simply a scam.

Update 30/11/2009: First Friday Collective have a link to an article from Newsweek in 1975 that makes dire predictions of global cooling. The article contains the immortal line:

“A survey completed last year by Dr Murray Mitchell of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration reveals a drop of half a degree in average ground temperatures in the Northern Hemisphere between 1945 and 1968.”

I don’t remember seeing that drop in any of the global warming graphs….

Psalm 86:11
Teach me your way, O LORD,
and I will walk in your truth;
give me an undivided heart,
that I may fear your name.

I read this verse in church today. What does it mean to have an undivided heart? Well, a heart that is divided would be torn between two things. So I’m thinkin this verse is saying, well, asking God for a heart that is totally focused on Him. A heart that is His, completely belonging to Him. Just like, texting and driving. You can drive, but if you’re reading a text/texting you are looking down at your phone. You aren’t giving your total undivided attention to the road and what’s going on. And when you aren’t focused on the road, you can get into a car accident. So just like that little analogy, if we allow our heart to desire something else besides just God, we can get off the right path He has for us.

We need to realize that we must give up EVERYTHING to follow God. Meaning, having an undivided heart that is focused on God’s work.

<3

For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

The government has plans to install so-called “smart meters” in every household b

The government has plans to install so-called “smart meters” in every household by 2020. They will apparently release details of the scheme on Wednesday.

The smart meters will replace the current tried and tested gas and electricity meters. Basic smart meters would be able to send meter readings back to the fuel companies, via a government-controlled central hub. So they would replace meter readers as well as meters. The benefit to the fuel companies is clear. But the government is going further.

The meters will incorporate a screen that will show consumers how much energy they are using, and allow gas and electricity companies to send them messages about their bills, or special offers, or “warnings” about when their electricity usage is unusually high.

The government have claimed that each household could save £100 a year because of the meters – because the meters will “allow them to cut down on their energy usage”. And Which?, the self-described “consumer watchdog” (but actually magazine publisher) has “warned” that without the screens, householders could save as little as £1 a year off their bills. Presumably that is the saving in meter readers’ wages.

The government expects the total cost of installing the meters to be between £7 billion and £9 billion. And this is, according to the Telegraph, “one of the biggest IT projects the country has ever seen”. Considering the government’s record on botching big IT projects, I think we can safely double that.

With say 20 million households in the country, that makes £400 per household even on the government’s figure. And households will be expected to pay for that, through their fuel bills.

And all to save £1 a year per household. Which is less than you would earn putting the £400 in a savings account.

So the whole case for this stunningly stupid scheme is based on that £100 saving that the government claims people will make because these new meters “allow them to cut down on their energy usage”.

Unfortunately, the meters won’t really allow anything of the kind. Knowing how much fuel you are using doesn’t actually help you much in cutting down your usage. In order to cut down, you have to turn things off, or turn them down. Not exactly rocket science. But the government expects us to believe that consumers will save say 10% of their entire bills just because a gadget tells them when the central heating boiler is running.

It could be that the civil servants who are driving this scheme really do believe all this nonsense. However, there is another potential explanation. There have been suggestions that these meters could be used to send other information back to the central hub. Like how much fuel people use, and when they use it. This in turn would allow the State to start giving people “advice” about saving energy – just like some local councils have started “helping” people recycle by monitoring their recycling via chips embedded in their bins.

Make no mistake. These smart meters are not to help the public. They are for the benefit of the State. Assuming the Conservatives win the election next year, they should scrap the scheme immediately. The omens on that are not good – the shadow energy and climate change secretary, Greg Clark, has been quoted as saying 2020 is not fast enough to roll out the new meters.

I guess there is one cheering thought, though. The State is so incompetent at running huge projects like this that they are unlikely ever to finish this one anyway – which means the impact on us all would “only” be that we were £400 poorer.

Though this seems like a daunting task at first, I am lucky to have access to the Sophia Smith Collection at Smith College. There, they have two boxes of information about NELCWIT, though it is partially restricted, to ensure the privacy of the women and their records Smith College has on file. I am still waiting to get a response from Anne Wiley, who is a director of NELCWIT, so I intent to tomorrow visit Smith College, and attempt to access those files. Looking at the NELCWIT website (www.nelcwit.org) they offer a detailed history of the organization, which will be extremely helpful. Even more helpful is their address, 479 Main Street in Greenfield, MA, which is conveniently located about a block away from where I live. I intend to pay them a visit on Wednesday to gather information, as well as hopefully arrange an informational meeting, as well as a follow-up interview.

Tonight and tomorrow at Smith College, I will attempt to gather a complete history, as well as a list of people to contact. In my last post, I will gather all my information together in a succinct manner, which hopefully will be posted on the Valley Women’s History Collaborative. So far, though, the information I have gathered is as such:

Title: New England Learning Center for Women in Tradition (NELCWIT)

Beginning date: 1976 ( A more precise date to come)

Ending date: Not applicable, still alive and thriving.

This very limited information is courtesy of www.nelcwit.org.

I will also provide a complete list of sources with the culmination of this blog.

JAESBEESWAX.COM turned one year today! I’m very proud to say that I have had over 6,500 hits to my website. I don’t exactly know how many readers I’ve got and I don’t know who’s actually reading my site. A lot of the emails I get are from other moms, from who knows where, that can relate to my posts. Here is a link to my first post ever on my very own dot com. I was reading through my posts from last year and I can’t believe how much has changed in just a year. Obviously, a year ago was when I just had a baby, and truthfully, it was all a blur! It’s times like yesterday when I was able to read back about my life that I appreciate having my blog- because I can appreciate my life. Every entry I write is so important, even when I don’t think it is at the time.

One of the greatest moments in TV history in my mind was the Graham Taylor documentary “The Impossible Job”. Many memorable catchphrases emerged Apart from “Do I Not Like That”, “Platty!!”, “Two-touch and just clip your area” and of course “Can we not knock it!?”.

One of my favorites was “I know that you know” when he sarcastically protested to the FIFA linesman that he was “in” on some kind of plot to prevent England from qualifying for the 1994 World Cup.

Well imagine my delight when yesterday, I discovered a board game called “Novem” that was using this very phrase to promote itself. Novem – the board game that knows you know.

And here’s the great man himself doing “I know that you know” (Fast forward to 5m 45secs)

PS I reckon it will be Barcelona 3 Real Madrid 1 tonight. Messi scoring 2, Puyol 1 and Ronaldo 1.

Well, not doing much this weekend. Eating leftovers, watching sports and currently some documentary

Well, not doing much this weekend. Eating leftovers, watching sports and currently some documentary on the Weather Channel. It was cold this morning, I finally gave in and turned on my heat for a bit, though everyone else kept saying they were not cold. I was though. I was curled up in a ball, with my blanket pulled all the way around me, even over my head, and I still felt cold.

I only had my heat on for a while, though, just enough to take the chill out of the house, and considering it’s like 60 degrees now, I turned it off again. After I finish my food, I think I might take a shower, take Chloe out and let her rom around the house for a while. Per step daughter’s request. And I’m sure that Chloe wouldn’t mind it either, though right now she’s laying on her blanket I think taking a nap.

And yeah, I know this is pretty mundane blogging, but I’m tired of only blogging about things I’m unhappy about, or angry about, or things that I’m ranting about. I’d like for things to be more positive around here, even if all I’m blogging about is the beautiful day we’re having or the food I’m eating, or how Chloe greets me with a wiggle of her body and a wag of her tail.

It just bothers me that here lately it seems the only time it seems that I can sit down to write a post is when something or someone is bothering me. When I’m angry about something. When I have to get something off my chest. When I’m having a good day, or something positive happens, it doesn’t seem to be quiet as easy to muster up a blog post. And I’m finding myself wondering why that is.

Because it’s easy to say that I’m a positive person, yet if all I do is come and blog about a post I didn’t like, or an article that made me angry, or an issue that has me upset, I can talk all I want about how positive I am, but my blog posts are projecting a different picture.

And I’m not saying I can’t rant occasionally, but aside from my music posts, I feel that I really need some balance around here. Even if it’s just a neat quoatation I saw, or blogging about the beautiful day, or something cute or sweet that Chloe did, etc. I just feel that I need to do a better job of projecting the whole person that I am, and not just the angry, brooding, complaining type that seems to appear all too frequently on this blog as of late.

Prepared for a thorough and detailed Ewen Chia’s Working From Home Secret Report review? This

Prepared for a thorough and detailed Ewen Chia’s Working From Home Secret Report review? This report is the latest offering from none other than Mr Super associate, Ewen Chia. In case you don’t know this person, he’s often called the Super affiliate of Affiliates or the top secret weapon of Super Affiliates. This bloke knows the affiliate marketing business inside out and is often the JV partner product owners look out for when launching new products. But can the home working secret report match up to his super guru reputation?
The free report given by Ewen illustrates the 5 steps to get rich from home using the web.
one. Finding a wild market that grows in demand

Never sell to a market that may only buy from you once. I mean, after purchasing, you are able to say so long to your consumer. Selling to a market like golfing is a far better one. Finding a high quality product that solves your prospect’s problem

While Ewen Chia recommends promoting only 1 top product, I have a tendency to feel that you should never put all of your eggs in one basket.
three. Find out what makes a complete sales funnel

Discover what a total sales funnel is and the best affiliate marketing programme that makes you commissions on the front end, upsell and backend.

4. Focus only on what makes you money

The free report talks about the importance of spending time on activities which make you money. This is correct.

5.
Without action, there’s no reaction.
The free report is sort of a pleasant 13-page report. But what about the 50-page Ewen Chia’s home working Secret Report?

I had the chance to peek at it. Inside this report, you will :

1. Watch how he created a new site and take the income from zero greenbacks to 5 figures inside 30 days.

Find out how to research your market and decide if it is moneymaking within mins. And the better part is, the tools you use are all free.

Find out all the hot sellers, sell them yourself and earn all of the profits!

Take a peek at Ewen Chia’s plan that got his first million dollars.

6. Create a single page website and sell much more than affiliates and list owners with gigantic lists.
seven. Master the four methods to get buyers to buy anything you sell them. 3 ways are completely free for you.

eight. Learn from the master how to create your own info product ready to sell in a week.
Find out how to price your product and avoid the mistakes most product owners make.

10.
This secret report is going to be priced around $9.97.

On top of that, he’s throwing in 2 bonuses. One will be his proprietary’Instant revenue System’ that may net you $156 and the other a report that teaches you how to’steal’ peoples’s work and become wealthy out of it. Apparently, he’s making it such a sweet deal for purchasers so that it builds a trust with them for the up-sell he’ll offer.

On the overall, I find the reports worth examining and there truly are nuggets of tips and strategies which I didn’t even know of. The amount of information and knowledge one can learn from there is enough even for an amateur to build a business within 30 days. As for the experienced marketer, this report still contains tons of secret stuff that many of us aren’t familiar with.
