Converse decidió hacerse publicidad con toda la actitud del mundo. Un álbum con buena música  y publicidad en la que la gente no se siente agredida, sino divertida. Para empezar, el comercial es el video musical de la canción My drive thru, con la participación de los artistas Julián Casablancas, N.E.R.D., Santogold y producido por Pharrell. Además la animación la hizo Psyop, una casa de post-producción de primera calidad. El resultado es publicidad que se convierte en advertainment.

Me gusta muchísimo la animación. Los personajes al estilo de recortes y sólamente conectados por los pies -que tienen puestos unos Converse- es sumanente ingeniosa. Me recuerda un poco a la secuencia de títulos de Juno.

I’ve posted about Santogold before…but now that she’s turning into the next “hipster it-girl” (Or whatever phrase you’d like to attach to her success), I feel the need to keep up with her.

Can’t say that I really enjoy the song. Rather than being a well-executed, synthesized performance by three talented musicians, it sounds more like three artists, with three distinct and separate sections doing their individual thing over a Pharrell beat.

So I saw this Converse advertisment in a magazine the other day. Let’s put in chronological order the thoughts that flew through my head: “OMG IT’S JULIAN CASABLANCAS. GET NAKED.”, “why is Pharrel and Santogold in this…. WHERE ARE THE OTHER STROKES?!?!!?!?”, “I like her hair”, “Julian is sex”, “My throat hurts”, “Hmmm Pharrel and Julian… odd combo…”.

So Then I found out that the unusual trio would be creating a single for the brand. The only thing that ran through my head was “This can’t be good”. Then I heard the single. It was… interesting. I was not a huge fan. As a die hard Strokes fan, this song was a little weird for me. The weirdest thing for me? The fact that Santogold’s part was stuck in my head for the rest of the day. I like Santagold but the song was catchy to me. It was kind of odd and messy. It was okay. It kills me to say this, but Julian sounded a little out of place. Pharrel’s cool vibe and Santagold funkyness complimented eachother and Julian was kind of… well…

ANYWAYS. I was reading comments from Stereogum and I read two comments that really stuck in my head. One said Julian sold out and the other said Julian had to keep busy some how.

So the first one. I guess this is what any fan of the rebellious, make-our-own-rules strokes would think, but then I thought: How is this selling out? Julian likes converse. He decided to do a cool ( or so he thought) advertisment with two very unique artists. Here is an example of how selling out sometimes is really biased. Bob Dylan, probably one of the GREATEST AND COOLEST HUMAN BEINGS TO WALK THIS EARTH did a commercial for cadillac. Is this selling out? Yes? Maybe? NO! Bob Dylan is still a great artist who holds true to his beliefs. Julian on the other hand…

Now the second comment. I have to agree with it. The strokes said they were taking a break. Albert is keeping busy. The rest of the band is on hiatus. Julian does commercials. I guess this is good for Julian money and creative wise. But personally and every other person that enjoys good music, would like it if Julian crept under the radar for how many years he needs and come back at us with a killer album. The last two albums felt really rushed. So Julian take your time. Go home. Drink a little bit… NOT A LOT… just a bit and make some good music. As much as it makes me smile to know he is still alive, I would rather hear one of my favourite band have gone to studio to record. That would be great.

Yah Im glad I got this out. My sterio awaits.

Video que forma parte de la campaña publicitaria de la marca de zapatillas Converse para celebrar sus 100 años. Para ello ha contado con músicos como  Pharrel Williams, Julian Casablancas y Santogold que han creado un single donde se mezclan toques eléctricos, de funk, con una base hip hop. El resultado del video y de la Web es un trabajo original realizado en blanco y negro con ingeniosos trucos en 3D, para los que se han utilizado programas como Flame y Flash.

E então que ontem eu chego em casa e emeu irmão tá nessas de assistir o tal Camp Rock, porque não tinha nada melhor passando nos outros canais de desenho. Tudo bem, afinal, eu nem tava perto pra assistir. Mas, depois que eu fui gentilmente tirada da frente do PC não tive escolha acbaei ouvindo a coisa.

Legal, eu nem sabia do que se tratava (se soubesse nem teria a curiosidade que tive pra ir assistir). O tal do Camp Rock é mais uns desses musicais da Disney. E é desses filminhos pra promover o Jonas Brothers. Pra você que, assim como eu, não sabe quem são eles vai a definição:
Três irmãos que têm uma banda. (Hanson?) E só. Carinhas bonitas (hã?) que acham que cantam.
E depois de pegar a coisa pela metade, e assistir só 15 minutos fica a dica: Cara, Camp Rock é chato, ok?

Aí que uma pesquisa realizada por sei lá quem (poxa, to sem tempo pra descobrir, joga no google e descobre vc!) na Grã-Bretanha definiu que “Bohemian Rhapsody”, uma das músicas mais fodásticas do Queen, é a melhor música Pop de todos os tempos.

A lista dos dez mais é essa:

Queen em primeiro, ok, a música é muiito boa. Agora, e essa YMCA, tá é legalzinho até, e todo mundo já dançou um dia, mas ser a 2ª melhor música pop de todos os tempos, aí já é demais, não? Mas olhando o resto da lista dá pra ver que tanto faz. O importante é eleger o primeiro e jogar umas músiquinhas, legais (não estou mesprezando-as!), pra completar o resto, porque Bryan Adams na frente do John Lennon .????

Sabe a Hayden Panettiere? Ela mesmo, a que pega o Milo Ventimiglia, a cheerleader, e tal. Ela resolveu cantar. O resultado pode ser visto aqui. E tudo o que eu tenho a dizer é: Quem foi o idiota que falou “Save the cheerleader, asve the world”??

Man, there are so many amazing music videos out there nowadays! As a kid, I remember the first video I ever saw was A-Ha’s “Take On Me”, and I thought that was the greatest thing since sliced bread. Obviously, technology has improved and for that I’m grateful.
