It sure was a tiring Wednesday for us at TENG!

First off, we had a great performance at the Genexis Theatre on the top floor of Fusionopolis for the Ministry of Trade and Industry Awards Ceremony.

Did you know they have a smashing cool theatre up there?! We were really pleasantly surprised.

It’s basically a huge globe of sorts suspended between the twin towers of the Fusionopolis. It totally helped too that they had excellent, professional and efficient tech support for us!

From there, it was a quick rush down for us to Pan Pacific Hotel, for the Children’s Society Awards Ceremony.

I wish I could say the tech support and all was as pleasant and smooth running as the Genexis Theatre, but it wasn’t!

Short of launching off into the deplorable state of expertise and overall service that Pan Pac exhibited that night, all I can say is that we’re really thankful we managed to get the show on the road by ourselves through some quick last minute improvisations to our sound set-up.

Yet, the best part of the evening was not only performing for the illustrous guests and award recipients that night- we met our ex-ACPS vice-principal, Mr Peter Joe Chia!

He retired from teaching years ago, and all of us kids were simply so afraid of him! It felt so wonderful performing before him, and good to see that he still looks exactly the same as he did years ago :p

This song will go down as one of my favorites of the year. Right up there with 40 More Falls and a few others. That’s ok to say, isn’t it? I mean, I’m not saying it’s a good song. I’m just saying I think it’s one of my not-so-bad ones. Let’s try again: This song isn’t nearly as crappy as most of the songs I’ve written this year. It sits on the “less-crappy list” right up there with 40 More Falls and a few others.

There. That’s better.

The song surprised me. It became more than I thought it would. I’ve wanted to write a song like this for a while – a song about the depravity of man – about the general brokenness of our souls – about how we’re all messed up in some way. All of us. Undeniably. It’s darker than I thought it would be, but dark enough to get the point across. Maybe this is an Ash Wednesday song. Maybe.

If I had time, I’d bring in a few other elements of sound to amp the pre-bridge section. Maybe I’ll put that on the to-do list for 2010.

So I have a couple of hours before my last 3 classes today.  I want to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. I’m TRYING to feel thanks today, but it has been a difficult one. In the spirit of Thanksgiving, though, I will be having turkey. The difference though is that I have to go out to a restaraunt to have turkey. Oh well …

So the reason I got on here was to try to get some more feelings out. So I will be attempting to write a song … like right now! So here we go:

As promised, here’re pictures of our cute little student orchestra that features in the film ‘FOREVER’!

The kids have been practicing hard and I must say they’re a really impressive lot of ’students’!

It would’ve been a dream to have a larger and more balanced orchestra, but nonetheless, I’m proud of what our ‘dream team’ has achieved within such a short time and with so few rehearsals! Well done guys!

Some of you may be wondering why the music scoring and rehearsals with this student orchestra is taking place before the shooting of the film. Well, in most films, my job only begins in post-production, where the draft/rough cut of the film is given for me to score and record before going for its final preparations for the big screen.

However, in some special movies, like this one, music is a central theme/feature of the film itself. Almost like filming a musical, wouldn’t be possible to write what the singers and actors sing after the filming’s all done, eh? You get the idea. heh.

Have also done a major overhaul to the layout of this webpage of mine. Neater and easier to navigate, I think. Any feedback? :p

Oh HeloOOo, the nobody who look at this waste of time blog. I love you for indulging my overabundant ego. This is the new video from one of my favorite bands right now, Oh Sleeper.
