Today I decided to head over to MyHeritage.com and use the celebrity look-alike tool. I entered in the only picture of myself where I’m actually facing the camera and got some pretty interesting results.

However much I might be flattered by this thing telling me I look like Patrick Swayze, Lawrence Fishburne or Samuel L. Jackson, it pretty much went right out the window with Benito Mussolini.

I remain indifferent at Rubens Barrichello. Mainly because until today I didn’t know he existed. At least it didn’t tell me I looked like Chris Farley, as I had been told on two occasions in my fatter days.

De repente llamó mi atención el canal telecinco 2. Estaban poniendo una madurida anunciando bolas chinas. La señora decía que había mejorado su salud el utilizar el instrumento sexual, y es que ahora podía retener mejor la orina.

No os podéis imaginar cual fue mi asombro ante tal información.

Después de eso se me vino a la cabeza y no se pq, el buscar en Internet a que famoso me parezco. Ya se que no tiene nada que ver una cosa con la otra, pero cosas de mi mente jejeje.

En fin, que me puse a buscar en google y encontré la página  http://celebridades.myheritage.es/reconocimiento-facial-celebridades.

Tienes que meter una foto tuya de frente y te hace un reconocimiento, luego te salen los porcentajes con varias celebridades. A mí me ha salido que me parezco un 73% a Song Hye-Kyo (Ni puta idea de quien era hasta ahora).

Bueno, si sentís curiosidad como yo, o el aburrimiento a las 2 de la mañana es tal que no tenéis nada mejor que hacer, pues ya sabéis, haceros un reconocimiento facial. Espero que no os salga que os parecéis a Rossy de Palma o alguien por el estilo JAJA.

P.D. OM me caes mal, no puedo creerme que salga que te pareces a George Clooney.

I’ve been using Twitter for the guts of a hundred days now. In that time, I’ve added about 1 new connection per day and posted about 10 status updates a week. So I’m probably going to have to graduate from beginner to low intermediate status pretty soon, as far as Twitter is concerned. Before I do, though, I’ll write down some thoughts…

Recently, I accidentally convinced some people at work to join Twitter – no, honestly, I wasn’t trying to evangelise, it just came up in conversation and I mentioned that I found it really useful. The problem with that, though, is trying to tell someone all the interesting unexpected benefits you’ve got from it while keeping expectations in check. After all, twitter’s good but it’s not very likely change your life completely from day 1.

So, what can Twitter do? Here are my ten tips for new tweeters/twitterers/whatever you want to call yourself, from my own limited experience so far.

What and how to tweet

1. Do not use Twitter like a regular web page – it’d drive you mad having to keep a separate window open for it and pressing F5 to refresh all the time. Use something like twhirl, tweetdeck or – for Firefox fans such as myself – twitterfox. My anecdotal evidence suggests that a fair chunk of people not familiar with the web outside of Internet Explorer fall down at this hurdle. They set up an account, they follow a few people straight away, a couple of days later they realise they haven’t checked back in and they’re gone.

2. What should you tweet? My policy on tweeting is to mix it up. Sure, tweet your latest blog post if you want, but tweet interesting links you’ve found – on Twitter or more likely during your day-to-day work – or startling stats. Tweet what’s on your mind. For instance, one of my first tweets was “Is a Cadbury’s Twirl just a Flake covered a layer of chocolate? Or is it more?” – I stand by that. Also tweet questions if something’s bugging you or you want to find something out quickly.

3. Some twittiquette – retweet sparingly. Twitter’s form of the dreaded FWD:>>>> is RT (retweet). RT can be as annoying as FWD, so use sparingly. If you particularly like a link or point someone’s tweeted, you more than likely have your own point of view on it, so why not write that?

4. Don’t get into long conversations via Twitter. It’s like shouting to someone the other side of the room. A big warning sign is when 80% of your tweets look something like this – @tom Hilarious, @dick Cool! No way!, @harry really?, and so on. Although it’s unlikely that you’ll be doing that as a beginner – this is the sign of a “power Twitter user”, and unless they look really interesting, you probably won’t have cause to follow them.

To be in position to do most of the above, you’ll need an audience and to build an audience of followers, you’ll need to follow people yourself, which leads me to part deux…

5. Find your friends, naturally enough. You’d be surprised at what they actually get to up to, particularly the links they find during their work-day.

6. Get yourself some news. With something like Twitterfox, all the hassle of having to set up Google News alerts, only to delete most, or having to repeatedly visit your favourite news sites is gone. With something like twitterfox, it’ll never be more than 5 mins before the latest headlines (CNN, theeconomist, RTE, The Irish Times, whatever you’re having yourself) pop up in the bottom right of your screen. Major plus for Twitter.

7. Follow the leader. Find someone who’s further out than you on the bleeding edge of IT. Oh sure, you could be conventional and follow Google or IBM – I do. But try and find someone who just looks like they have their finger on the pulse. I follow for example Dexin (“Interested in Entrepreneurship, Crowdsourcing, Cloud Computing and Macro Economics”) because she seems to know what she’s on about. You can also try to find a topical non-person twitterer, like Socialmedianet (“News and views from the world of social media and social software on the Internet”).

8. Stalk a celebrity. When done well, it’s a great way of finding out a little more about the person behind the celebrity. Stephen Fry is a little passe at this point, being the world’s most popular twitterer, as far as I know – he’s also quite talkative, which is a factor to bear in mind if Twitter clutter (twutter?) is an issue. John Cleese is as mad as you might expect, so you won’t always get it. On the other hand, Britney Spears is too quiet and Jamie Oliver is still very much about the cooking.

Jonathan Ross is a happy medium, in my opinion, and comes across as very human. (Not that I thought he was an alien before, but you know what I mean…) MC Hammer is on twitter too and contrary to popular belief, his follow button can be touched. I haven’t gone there yet, though.

9. Inspire yourself – follow someone interesting, just for the sake of it. It could be, for example, @thebuddha, doling out words of wisdom twice daily, or it could be The Earth Institute at Columbia or whatever. But it’s never any harm broadening your mind.

10. Lastly, talk to companies. If you follow companies, whose services you use, and tweet at them (literally @ them), they will definitely hear you – no more interminable phone calls with automatons giving you menu options! For example, I follow MyHeritage and have been able to pass on feedback and suggestions, to which they duly responded. Ditto with Hubdub. Because it’s all done in an open forum, it’s a fantastic way of getting companies to notice a suggestion and even to shame a service provider into action, if you feel so inclined.

So there you have it, some tips from someone who doesn’t know too much, for what that’s worth!

Tava zuando naquele site, MyHeritage, que mostra com que famoso você se parece numa determinada foto, começou a aparecer coisas inusitadas aqui, de acordo com a pose, angulo, qualidade da foto, e eu, querendo postar algo ingraçado, estou pondo aqui, alguns resultados pra vocês rirem um poco, todos… alguns meus, outros com integrante da equip do blog e a porra toda…

Eu pessoalmente nen ligo pra risadas, pq tem coisa bem mais engraçada na internet hehe… mas ae vai!

Gostaria que o pessoal, posta-se os seus resultados no Imageshack e botasse ae pra gente ver também, depois eu até crio um post com o do pessoal uhauauah.

Hoy os voy a comentar una página que hace tiempo me comentaron. La web en cuestión se trata de Myheritage, y sirve para buscar el árbol genealógico de tu familia, pero a pesar de ello, yo me voy a centrar en otro aspecto.

Como podéis observar en el enlace, hay varias opciones (Celebrity collage, celebrity morph y look-alike meter). Yo he probado la segunda opción, que consiste en insertar una foto (preferiblemente que aparezcas de frente, tipo carnet), y mediante la tecnología de reconocimiento facial avanzada, la página te mostrará una serie de fotos con el porcentaje de parecido que ha obtenido.

Yo lo he realizado con 2 fotos distintas, obteniendo distintos resultados, y la verdad es que, si queréis echaros unas risas, os recomiendo que os deis una vuelta por esta página y probéis vosotros mismos el resultado.

myHeritage Family tree builder is the best software for this purpose. You can make your family tree with photos, generate reports like listing how a particular person in the family tree is related to all the members down or up a tree. There is also provision to store the relative’s phone number, wherabout etc as in a address book. The whole creation can be saved as a GEDCOM file and uploaded to myHeritage website where you can search other families also.

GenoPro is a lighter version where the symbolisation of family members is through original scientific notation (Square for male, circle for female) and it is possible to chart out a disease pattern which runs in families. In short, myHeritage FTB aims to know more about your family in detail, but if you are interested in scientific study, GenoPro may be a better option. However, the .gedcom file that you created in myHeritage FTB can be imported to GenoPro.

MyHeritage is in nog negen talen gelanceerd, te weten Arabisch, Bulgaars, Kroatisch, Deens, Litouws, Maleisisch, Farsi/Perzisch, Roemeens en Servisch. Erg leuk voor al die mensen die in eigen taal hun site willen bouwen..!

Dit betekent dat de site nu in 34 talen beschikbaar is en dat we meer dan 85% van de talen die er op het web gesproken worden beslaan.

Je hebt lopen zweten en zoeken in stoffige archieven. Weken, maanden en jaren gezocht naar informatie over jouw voorouders. Vervolgens op de computer in programma’s als Aldfaer, Gedcom of Myheritage de stamboom bewerkt, uitgeprint, rondgemaild en toen….

Na grotendeels de focus gelegd te hebben op het zoeken en ordenen van infomatie is het tijd voor de volgende stap. Nu kan je 2 dingen doen met de stamboom die je hebt gemaakt:

1) laten liggen en er zo nu en dan trots naar kijken OF
2) delen met anderen!

Mocht je voor optie 1) kiezen dan heb ik alleen als advies bewaar het bronbestand niet alleen op papier, maar ook digitaal. Denk dan aan een usbstick (gemiddeld 15 jaar houdbaar) of dvd / cd (gemiddeld 10 jaar houdbaar). Zet de data om de zoveel jaar over op een nieuwe ‘drager’ (cd, dvd, usbstick, (externe) harde schijf). Hierbij zorg je dat de data het best bewaard blijft. Toch is het mogelijk dat er tijdens het overzetten data verloren gaat. Diverse kopieen bewaren op verschillende dragers beperkt de kans op verlies.

Om verlies te verkomen heb ikzelf mijn data op diverse dragers opgeslagen (externe harde schijf als cd en usbstick).

Kies je voor optie 2) dan zijn er verschillende manieren om jouw informatie te delen. De laatste tijd zijn er verschillende netwerken gestart. Hieronder de enkele voorbeelden;

- Familieband.nl
- Geni.com
- Zooof.nl
- MyHeritage.nl
- Verwant.nl
- Familii.nl

Zelf vind ik de look and feel van Verwant.nl wel leuk, maar waar ik bij de meeste netwerken tegenaan loop is het weergeven van de stamboom. Ik wil in één oogopslag zo overzichtelijk mogelijk veel familieleden weergeven. Nu voldoen bovenstaande netwerken wel als het gaat om 3 generaties (jij, jouw ouders en grootouders) met kleine gezinnen. Maar je hebt een probleem als je ouders beide uit een gezin komen van 10 kinderen waarbij iedereen op hun beurt weer kinderen heeft.

Toch zijn er mogelijkheden! Bekijk het programmaatje KS Tableau. Heel simpel en klein, maar MET mogelijkheden. M.i. tot nu toe het best te gebruiken voor het schematisch weergeven van een aardig grote stamboom. Bekijk hier een voorbeeld

Mocht je interesse hebben om de stamboom in boekvorm te gieten dan raad ik zeker MyHeritage aan. Voor zowel het opmaken als het bewerken van de stamboom scoren zij zeer goed. Maar het aanbieden van standaard templates om de stamboom uit te geven in boekvorm is wat mij betreft echt van toegevoegde waarde!

The MyHeritage front page has public stats information on it. I was glad to see the registered users number passing 26 million and the number of names approaching 267 million. This puts MyHeritage in a commanding position in the family social networking space.
