Juhuu, meine Stadt hat mittlerweile 600 Einwohner!
Nachdem ich in den letzten Tagen Streifzüge quer durch alle möglichen Länder unternommen und überall eine Nachricht hinterlassen habe, gibt es mittlerweile ca. 30 Städte, die mich auch zurückbesucht haben und die nun in meine tägliche Besuchsliste aufgenommen worden sind.

So bin ich zuversichtlich, die 700 auch relativ schnell zu knacken! Also, hier noch mal der Aufruf:

Lasst meine Stadt wachsen!

Und wie immer, gibt es für alles Tools.

Dieses kleine Bildchen gibt nicht nur ne Statistik her, nein, es rootet beim draufklicken auch noch an die richtige Stelle (Einwohner, Industrie, Verkehr…)

Finally another (quick) blog. Everyone go here to support MyMiniCity – another stupid little web game.

So the elections are over, the ANC achieved another landslide victory. Now the fear mongering begins. So the ANC did not achieve the infamous 2/3 majority. Everyone seems to think that this would have made some sort of drastic difference, like 2/3 was the begining of the apocolypse. In the 15 years the ANC has had majority rule nothing drastic has happened, why does everyone seem to think that something will happen now? I think I summed up my feelings regarding the elections pretty well on my favourite web forum. The reply was in a topic addressing supposed vote tampering:

I voted yes, cause I believe the election was free and fair, just like the previous 4 elections. The people have spoken. The conspiracy stories will start crawling out the woodwork. Fact of the matter is that it was a landslide victory, sure tampering could contribute to a few percent, not a 40 odd % lead over the party in second place.

The system is flawed and democracy in South Africa has left a lot to be desired, but it was free and fair. Education or not, the people have spoken and there is fuckall we can do about it. Lets live with it and make the best of it. I am sick to death of white people being fearful of a country run by a man who has had the last few years of his live sensationalized when in reality, nothing will change in South Africa under his leadership. In 6 months time Zuma will be the new Mbeki, the man we love to hate – a mediocre president, but far from a terrible one. Hell, Zuma could even surprise us and be a half decent president.

Stop fucking whining and get on with your lives. Viva South Africa. Viva.

But as South Africans we have to whine, its in our nature, its a national past time. I love this country, its very rarely a boring place to live.

On the political subject, it seems that Mr.Buffoon Melama has shot his trap off again like a little spoiled brat. Calling GottZille a “racist little girl”, sometimes I think the bigot is a lot smarter than he lets on. In fact I think he is a prized part of the ANC arsenal. Well, at least he is entertaining and hopefully the majority will realise that he is just a clown, the ANC court jester. Unfortunately I think he is a court jester with tremendious political clout amoungst the uneducated youth.

Still on the topic of elections (sort of), Twitter absolutely blew me away during the South African elections. Using search.twitter.com I was able to track opinions and get the latest updates on the elections. News24 had a Twitter feed widget on the side of thier elections special home page which was an excellent addition to the page. The evening as the first counts started rolling in I read about it as it was happening. Twitter has evolved as a social networking tool, its scope has changed and it has exploded on the web. A few examples of its evolution are: Indian Premier League updates and Philanthropy. This TED Talk by Twitter co-founder Evan Williams says a lot.

That brings me to TED – a Technology, Entertainment and Design conference that allows invitees to speak about what interests them. Invitees include Bill Gates, Richard Dawkins, Mike Rowe and Dan Denett. TED ‘Talks’ (video clips of invitee presentations) are availible on the website to either view via streaming video or to download as FLV or high quality MP4. I have spent countless gigabytes downloading and archiving the talks. Here is a list of my favorite talks in no particular order:

• Robert Full on Engineering and Evolution - Super interesting talk and Robert Full is a good speaker.
• Bonnie Bassler on how Bacteria Communicate - Also super interesting talk and Bonnie is an excellent speaker.
• Brian Cox on CERNs Supercollider - Interesting, good speaker.
• Mike Rowe celebrates Dirty Jobs - Inspiring talk by a brilliant speaker.
• Vilayanur Ramachandran on your mind - Interesting talk by a brilliant speaker.
• Richard Dawkins - 2 good talks by an excellent speaker.
• Dan Dennett - Brilliant talks by a very good speaker.

TED is an amazing iniative and I will support it any way I can. Brilliant stuff.

Oh mein Gott, ich habe 10% Arbeitslose in meiner Stadt. Immerhin ist die Stadt schon auf 59 Einwohner angewachsen.

Hier geht es drum, eine Stadt aufzubauen. Aber hier wird nicht gewürfelt oder ähnliches, sondern die Klicks der Besucher steuern das Wachstum der Stadt. Also IHR!

E’ da un po’ che non scrivo perché son tornato da pèoco dalle mie vacanze, ora riprenderò a pieno ritmo; ci son parecchie novità in molti programmi che seguo come ardour, rosegarden, nted, nei driver video, nel nuovo modem che ho comprato… vi dirò.

Pues eso, que Frikiamigo nº0 ha creado una minicity llamada Base Secreta para todo lo que es la totalidad de frikiamigos… en realidad es una tontería, pero es por la ilusión de dominar el mundo. Cuantas más veces se haga click en el enlace de la minicity, más crecerá y prosperará la ciudad y tal y tal.

Sólo se puede hacer un click por ordenador y día (a no ser que se hagan movidas raras, como cambiar la IP o demás, pero tampoco es cuestión de matarse). I am always on the lookout for nice little web apps and games. This one is without exception a nice concept. Convert website traffic into a city. Huh?

Basically there is no sign up, just post a link on your website and have people click it. The more people click your links the bigger your city gets. Sort of like watching grass grow, but fun never the less.

Today I found a funny web browser  game. To get new inhabitants you have to get people visiting your page from different ips. It’s worth to try it out, so visit this page and click the red button “Build my city”. If you need help with getting inhabitants, leave a comment with a link to your page. That way we can all help eachother out!

แต่ความยากคือ คนนึงจะคลิกลิงค์นี้ได้แค่วันละครั้ง ถ้าในวันเดียวกันคลิกเข้าไปมากกว่า 1 หน ก็จะไม่เพิ่มจำนวนประชากรละ คงเป็นการป้องกันไม่ให้ปั่นจำนวนโดยนั่งคลิกลิงค์นี้เองทั้งวัน ต้องได้คลิกจากเพื่อนๆหลายๆคน มาจากต่างเครื่องกัน แล้วก็ต้องเข้ามาเยี่ยมลิงค์นี้อย่างสม่ำเสมอ เมืองถึงจะค่อยๆเติบโตขึ้น

บนเว็บก็จะมีสถิติของเมือง ว่ามีจำนวนประชากร (Population) เท่าไหร่แล้ว เมืองมีรายได้ (Revenue) เท่าไหร่ มีปัญหาคนว่างงาน (Unemployment) มั๊ย มีปัญหาการคมนาคม (Transportation) หรือปัญหาด้านความอาชญากรรม (Crime Rate) รึเปล่า หรือมีปัญหาด้านมลพิษ (Pollution) ค่าต่างๆเหล่านี้ จะเป็นตัวบอกว่าเมืองมีความเป็นอยู่ดีมากน้อยแค่ไหน ซึ่งจะเป็นตัวทำให้ลำดับ (Rank) เมืองของเราในประเทศเปลี่ยนแปลงขึ้นลงได้

ถ้าแค่คลิกเพิ่มจำนวนประชากร แล้วเมืองขยายเิ่พิ่มไปเรื่อยๆ คงไม่ค่อยน่าตื่นเต้น เมืองนี้ก็เลยมีเงื่อนไขต่างๆคอยโผล่มาทำให้ต้องคลิกอย่างอื่นด้วย อย่างเช่น ถ้าประชากรเพิ่มมากขึ้นเรื่อยๆ ก็จะเริ่มมีคนตกงาน (Unemployment) ทำให้เราต้องมีการสร้างโรงงาน เพื่อทำให้คนตกงานน้อยลงจนเป็น 0% การที่จะสร้างโรงงานก็ต้องไปคลิกลิงค์เข้ามาอีกแบบนึงคือมีคำว่า “ind” ย่อมาจาก Industry ต่อท้าย อย่างของ Club4r ก็จะเป็น http://Club4R.myminicity.com/ind

ลิงค์พวกนี้ก็สามารถจะดูได้จากหน้าเว็บของเมืองเช่นกัน เพียงแต่มันอาจจะยังไม่ active คือคลิกไม่ได้ ถ้าจำนวนประชากรยังไม่มากพอ จากที่ลองเล่่นดู เราจะเริ่มสร้างโรงงาน (Increase Factory) ได้เมื่อมีประชากรมากกว่า 50 คน แล้วก็จะเริ่มปรับปรุงระบบคมนาคม (Improve Transportation Network) ได้เมื่อประชากรมากกว่า 100 คนขึ้นไป

บนเว็บเมืองนี้ ยังมีส่วนที่เราสามารถเข้าไป chat พิมพ์ข้อความทิ้งไว้ เพื่อพูดคุยกับคนอื่นๆที่เข้ามาที่เมืองนี้ได้ ก็เป็นอีกส่วนหนึ่งที่เพิ่มบรรยากาศความเป็นสังคมเมือง ให้กับเมืองที่เราสร้างขึ้นได้

ข้อมูลที่น่าสนใจอื่นๆที่ไปลองค้นหามา

1. จะสร้างโรงงาน (Increase Industry) ได้เมื่อเริ่มมีประชากร 50 คน
2. เมื่อประชากรเกิน 50 แล้ว ทุกประชากรที่เพิ่มขึ้น 3 คน จะต้องการโรงงาน 1 แห่ง

3. จะเริ่มปรับปรุงการคมนาคม (Improve the Transportation Network) ได้เมื่อมีประชากร 100 คน
4. เมื่อประชากรเกิน 100 แล้ว ทุกประชากรที่เพิ่มขึ้น 5 คน จะต้องคลิกปรับปรุงคมนาคม 1 ครั้ง

5. แต่ละประชากรที่เพิ่มขึ้น เมืองจะมีรายได้ (revenue) เพิ่มขึ้น 150 ยูโร
6. แต่ละโรงงานที่เพิ่มขึ้น เมืองจะมีรายได้ เพิ่มขึ้น 250 ยูโร
7. แต่ละคลิกปรับปรุงคมนาคม จะไม่มีรายได้เพิ่มขึ้น

ข้อมูลเล็กๆน้อยสำหรับการสร้างเมืองบน MyMiniCity ซึ่งจริงๆก็เป็นการจำลองสังคมเมืองมาไว้บนเว็บให้เราเล่นกัน เราจะได้เรียนรู้ว่าเมืองที่เราสร้างจะเติบโตขึ้นได้ ก็ต้องอาศัยเพื่อนๆหลายๆคนเข้ามาช่วยคลิกกัน แล้วก็ต้องเข้ามากันสม่ำเสมอ มาทักทายพูดคุยกันในเมืองได้ พอเห็นว่าเมืองมีปัญหาอย่างคนตกงาน ก็ต้องช่วยกันสร้างโรงงาน หรือสร้างระบบความปลอดภัย เพื่อที่จะทำให้เมืองอยู่รอด แล้วก็ก้าวหน้าต่อไป จนเป็นเมืองลำดับต้นๆของประเทศ
