1. people’s twitter-esque updates. seriously. who the fuck cares if you just watched three hours of FOX30? or what the fuck you ate for dinner. or if you are shopping and can’t  decide on what size vegetables to buy. it’s set up by marketing companies to figure out what a large percentage of americans do each day.So they can really figure out how to suck us in. take a shit. go to work. pay bills. ecetera. repeat.

Hay! Nice to finally update this thing rightt?? Haha, well so much has happened since I last posted on here. School has started…what a drag! My classes are alright (besides the fact that I sit by total freaks in 4th period) I’ve ran into very interesting people too. And almost have gotten in a few fights ;] (haha yeahhh right). I’ve finally updated my youtube account also! Funny videos :] Oh and some retard of a guy started a fight with me on youtube. Telling me I was a stupid American girl blaa blahh. He acted like he knew everything and he was 18. Come on man, get a life. Who has nothing better to do than to fight with high schoolers on Youtube? I hope I don’t grow up like that.

Yeahh, so I guess you can say my life is alright. Plus side of school- my best friends! You wouldn’t believe how crazy we get. I am so excited to announce that I am now a member of Facebook!

I know, it doesn’t seem like that big of a deal to some, but in our relationship I try to respect his opinions and wishes. He didn’t want me to have a Myspace or a Facebook and I was fine with that, until I talked to my sis and found out that FB was mainly for families and such. Neither CJ or I like Myspace…it seems to be a melting pot of people looking to hook up with strangers and find romance and dates, and we don’t need that. But my sister told me that a lot of my family is on FB so she explained to me (and I explained to CJ) that it was different from Myspace.

Although it may seem “dark ages” that I had to have his “permission”, so to speak, to make a FB page, it’s because I respect him and I expect the same from him. I wouldn’t want him to make a Myspace or FB behind my back, so I wasn’t going to do it behind his (although he has thought for the longest time that I have been, lol, silly love-dove).

I’m excited to be a part of my family’s “Facebook Clique” and get all the little updates from them and share pictures of my babies with them. Yay me!

So although MySpace is still kind of a must for many artists, today I would like to draw your attention to something much better. Bandcamp.

Please disregard their name, this site is not a place for summer music nerds. This is a great website that is a waaaay better option then MySpace. The simple look of Bandcamp is deceiving because inside its in-depth like something I’ve never seen.

It offers a ton of features including individual song stats, individual song pages, high quality downloads, individual price setting, and way more. So instead of you reading about it watch the video below. It’s worth your time!

Besides the fact that reps that reported to myself where sending me requests I happened to read the Terms of Service (thanks Leo Laporte) and upon reading this and being the privacy intense person I am I knew it was time to close up shop there..   lets take a look at what the ‘book can do with your information,

That language is the same as in the old TOS, but there was an important couple of lines at the end of that section that have been removed:

You may remove your User Content from the Site at any time. If you choose to remove your User Content, the license granted above will automatically expire, however you acknowledge that the Company may retain archived copies of your User Content.

Furthermore, the “Termination” section near the end of the TOS states:

The following sections will survive any termination of your use of the Facebook Service: Prohibited Conduct, User Content, Your Privacy Practices, Gift Credits, Ownership; Proprietary Rights, Licenses, Submissions, User Disputes; Complaints, Indemnity, General Disclaimers, Limitation on Liability, Termination and Changes to the Facebook Service, Arbitration, Governing Law; Venue and Jurisdiction and Other.

Al Reynolds has been crucified by the media for his MySpace and Facebook comments in conjunction with All-Star Jones. Every aspect of the situation is sad… a professional investment banker pouring out his emotions on social networking sites like a teenage girl, and then respected web media outlets like Yahoo News actually picking up the story as legitimate news. Mass media’s slide down the slippery slope of sensationalism is already beyond fixing, but it’s not too late to save Al Reynolds.

Reynold’s missed out on a golden opportunity to showcase the true power of MySpace while venting his childish emotions. So this is for you Al, my version of what your MySpace page should have looked like. From day one i had not been a huge fan of big social networking sites. I could not get into Live Journal, I don’t really care for MySpace, and did not understand the use of Twitter. Now after tons of trial and error, to see what really keeps you in touch and what doesn’t I am now very much within the social networking..network. But with careful consideration, I feel there are only a few worthy of getting the job done.

One of the things that are great about all of my selected network sites, is it actually DOES keep you in touch with people who very much want to keep in touch with you. Facebook and MySpace are were the “big” sites for you to sign up for if you wanted to begin your networking venture. At this point, after seeing ever emo scene kid, with flat-ironed hair covering one eye, looking at their sidekick, just to see if someone they don’t really know messaged them or commented their bulletin (because they ask people to) turns you off to the whole thing. After getting away from Myspace, I knew i had to stay in touch, but not with a internet community based on how many friends you have, and whether you are n their “top list” or not. Those politics, i feel, are not what social networking is about. Its about getting information to people you want to have it, and you, receiving from people you want to receive from.

This is where Pownce came into my life. I remember it was an invite-only beta, that i very much wanted to be a part of. After the wait, as soon as it was launched to the public, i knew it was exactly what i had been searching for. The user set-up is perfect. ONE photo of your choice, short description of yourself, with a chosen theme layout. That is really all you need! While setting up you can also download a native app for your Mac or PC (powered by adobe air) so you can update and see feeds straight from your desktop.  Pownce will let you advertise your site, and other social network links to the people you want, and people who are interested. Share photos, links, videos, quick! It was developed very very well, and is probably my favorite site when in front of my computer or on my iPhone. Everyone on there is on for one reason. To stay connected. This community is part of a more intelligent group which can use Pownce and Twitter to get their messages across, the way it was meant to be sent.

Although Twitter has been out long before Pownce, I feel like this is an amazing extension of that. I am a late adopter of Twit but i absolutely love it. If anything, with iPhone and Text Message integration, this is the fastest way to let people know your happenings, and vice versa. The next step to this great way of staying connected, is with more than words. This is where QIK comes in. Unfortunately, I cannot use it yet, because the iPhone cant support it without video, but any of you with Nokia’s…. Get on that. If you dont know what QIK is, Click HERE to visit them and find out.

On one last note I do have to mention a great addition to these sites and all others you may own (last.fm, flickr, ect.) It is called SocialThing! and is not only quick and efficient, but it is iPhone integrated. Thanks to fellow Powncer Amber A, i was able to join the beta, which is damn near completion. This site will let you set up an account that will login in to ALL of your social sites, allowing you to view them ALL on one page of feeds, which at the same time will let you update all of YOUR sites in bulk! Also choose the ones you don’t wanna update (See Photo). It just so happens to be that the best integration with this website is with Pownce and Twitter! If you can get an invite, join SocialThing! and you will love it.

January 30th is “International Delete Your MySpace Account Day” for those of you in cyberland. I heartily recommend this action. Not only is MySpace a waste of your and my time, but it’s dumb. I don’t really need to hear about that time you went to the zoo and had such a good time with your r-tard friends. I just don’t. And to be honest, we really don’t care about what you have you have to say. So delete your account now, please. While your at it, delete your Facebook page too. They both suck. Please. Do it for the children.

I disapprove of Myspace

Facebook has been beeping on my radar for a while as the upcoming social networking evil. They’ve been trying to integrate their advertising with their ability to share information and the fact that they own your information. First there was the whole beacon mess and now i heard that they are thinking about using people’s pictures in advertisements without having to ask or compensate. Facebook is going downhill sure but the reason i’ve killed my myspace today was not because of anything so principled. Myspace just got on my nerves. Not only is it messy and juvenile in design it’s juvenile in content. I got really tired of all the girls in bikini’s named Tom trying to be my friend and getting messages from fished accounts telling me about the latest deals on viagra, macy’s cards, ipods, or some girl named emily that likes me. So instead of deleting my myspace page and abandoning the many friends i have there i came up with a way to kill my myspace page without really deleting it. I just made everything black and included some links to my other online existences. I also included my e-mail which may be a mistake since there are tons of bots scouring myspace for e-mail accounts to spam but hopefully the spaces i broke it up with will send them off my trail. you can see my new page here. I can still log into my account and read my comments and messages but the fact that they don’t show up will hopefully encourage some friends to jump off the bandwagon and find another way to communicate with me online. I used one of those Myspace pimpers or whatever to create the code but i’ve deleted every referential link back to them from the code. here it is if you want to do the same.

I dislike Myspace. Not the whole idea of it, just the site and how it is maintained. First of all, I would understand if the message above had to do with a minor site component. For example, if the comments section of the site was down. But in this case, the “function that I am currently trying to use” is the the main function of this whole god damned site. THE LOG IN PAGE. Come on, Tom, you don’t see Facebook putting up messages like these! For christ sakes, at least work on the website at an hour where traffic is the lowest like 4 AM. Not 8 pm, the prime time when 14 year olds log on to see if their significant other is cyber cheating on them. And it doesn’t help that Tom has to be an asshole about his site being down. “Please do NOT email me about this. Just wait it out.” We all know that Tom is out partying with other dot com millionaires and not slaving away in front of the computer screen to fix this.

Due to many reasons I have decided to close my myspace account and only use Facebook for all my social networking needs. You might think, oh NBD, just close the account and ba da bing it’s gone. Nope. It has not been that easy. Of course not, why should it be?

So here is my dilemma: they send a confirmation email to the email address that you used to open the account. The email I used to start my myspace is like 8 years old and apparently I have forgotten the password and there is no way to access it. Since I can’t get into the email to get the code I sent a message to Myspace (which they make sure you know is not going to Tom) and told them I need to cancel my myspace page but do not have access to the email. This is what they told me-

If for some reason you can’t access your old email account, you’ll have to email help@support.myspace.com Send them a salute along with the new email address you want to use. If the email is being used by another MySpace profile we can’t use it, so make sure it’s not associated with any other profiles.

To create and send a salute here’s what you’ll need to do:

•Create a handwritten sign with the word MySpace.com and Include your MySpace Friend/Profile ID number. (Your friend ID is the number after “&friendID=” in your profile’s web address/URL. If you can’t login, you can get this info by clicking on your profile)

•Get a picture taken of you holding the handwritten sign. Be sure the photo is clear and the handwriting is easy to read. If we can’t read the information and see your face clearly, then we will ask for another salute. (If you do not have access to a digital camera, please consider the accessibility of disposable cameras and digital film processing available at most drug stores)

•After you take the pic, send us an email to help@support.myspace.com with the salute attached. You can also provide us with the web address/URL where the image has been uploaded.

•Include what you want your new email log in address and password to be. Again, if the email is being used by another MySpace profile we can’t use it, so make sure it’s not associated with any other profiles. Once we receive this information, we will update your account for you.

Ok, I’ve all but stopped using myspace.  There’s many reasons but the main one is is that I’ve found and now use Facebook . . . which is better, if you didn’t know.

I’m not promoting here . . . I just wanted to take this opportunity and say that another reason I have all but given up the myspace is due to the ads.  The racy, nearly nude ads don’t seem to catch my eye . . . maybe I don’t get those. I know guys get them more . . . since I’m convinced that they somehow target-advertise with your personal information.  I haven’t figured it out.

Anyhoo the ONLY ads that  I get are “Lose 45 lbs in 2 days” ads. What the ?!?

I’ve never entered my weight or anything else on there so why do I get that kind of advertisement? And the pictures . . . dear goodness, don’t get me going!

So, with the combination of the site becoming more trashy, stupid and targeted advertising (I think they need to do some research) and the fact that there is a better site out there for keeping in touch with friends and family . . .

I think they just lost another patron.

Yeah, so I’ve done away with my myspace.  I think I’ve had enough of it.  It really is a waste of time for somone like me who barely uses it. I’d check it alot, but wasn’t really that active on it so I figured what’s the point?  And I’m pretty sure everyone I knew on there can get in contact with me with out it.  Having no myspace, its the new myspace!  Thank you, and goodnight.
