About six months ago my organising system was in a bit of a mess and needed refreshing. So I read Getting Things Done by David Allen again.

(I really must get around to buying and reading his later book Making it All Work at some point soon!)

I had a good old sort out which took nearly two weeks – scary how easy it is for bad habits to re-establish themselves!

For example I stopped using email folders in Outlook and instead switched to using tags to organise them. I also had a clear out of the 8000 odd emails that were clogging up my various reference and project folders.

(Doing that made me realise just how much junk or unimportant email I get and can delete, if not immediately then after a week. So that helped dealing with 150+ emails a day and meant I could actually get some real work done!)

So everything was running smoothly until early last month. I then started to get that nagging feeling that something just wasn’t right. I was capturing tasks at home and at work but not elsewhere when they occurred to me.

I knew I had to fix this as I was coming up with tasks and ideas when I was out an about inspired by what I was seeing around me. Some people I know use their mobiles to take notes on but for me this was just too slow.

It turns out a lot of people think the same thing as Pen and Paper was voted the winner in a Lifehacker Poll in May this year.
(I just wish I’d read that article when it was first published rather than in early October!)

So I decided to do something about it a few weeks ago when my A4 sized log book I used at work was almost full.

The first thing I did was to replace it with a smaller A5 notebook. I now keep this in my backpack when commuting and use it to take notes at meetings. In most meetings I now don’t even bother to take my laptop. Results are more productive meetings – I can still keep an eye on email during long meetings by synchronising it to my N96 using the Mail for Exchange client.
It was a bit too big to carry around all the time though so I now use a Moleskine style notebook – the purple one in the image below.
As for a Pen? Well I have to have at least a blue biro with me at all times. If I’m using my larger A5 notebook then I make sure I have a pencil and red biro at hand as well.

With an addition of some sticky notes that seems to have me covered for now – well almost. I must find get some slim sticky notes. I saw a woman opposite me on the train last week reading a book on Creative Writing and she was using these as markers with small reminders on the part that poked out of the top of the book.

Assim como o JoikuSpot, essa nova versão, gratuita porem beta, transforma seu celular em um roteador sem fio(wireless), transmitindo o sinal de dados da sua operadora por Wi-Fi, dando acesso a outros dispositivos que tem Wi-Fi. The Nokia N900 camera is really quite good. In fact, even with pre-release firmware, it walks all over the competition!

It’s no surprise. The N900 comes from a long lineage of great 5 megapixel phones from Nokia, such as the N95 and the N82. It features Carl Zeiss optics (with auto-focus and macro), a dual LED flash, and a sliding lens cover – as such, it’s virtually identical to the N97 camera…

The UI is especially polished. Of course there’s geo-tagging and auto-rotation, but it’s easy to tag and share pictures via Flickr, Facebook, or Pixelpipe. Contrary to other smartphones (and like cameraphones), the N900 camera is an integral part of the device, not an afterthought.

The N900 takes very nice pictures (slide show), with excellent color balance, exposure, and level of detail. But there’s room for improvement, especially in low light. The sensor is a little too noisy at times (shades of N96) – hopefully this can be fixed in a future update.

And then there’s video recording. With a resolution of 848×480 pixels at 25 fps, the N900 is in the same league as the Motorola Droid and the Samsung Memoir. It also features initial auto-focus like the iPhone 3GS

Nokia Podcasting is getting on in years, but is still a much loved member of the family and is sorely missed by everyone.

Quais são as vantagens?

Este teclado é muito maior que o padrão Nokia / Samsung, um botão pode ter mais de 5 caracteres (caracteres extras são exibidos na tela tocando e arrastando). Para cada modalidade (paisagem e retrato), existem 7 tipos diferentes de teclados (selecionável com um botão): Inglês qwerty, qwerty Internacional, ABC teclado, de modo numérico, o modo de edição, tabela de símbolos, a seleção de dicionário.

Como instalar?

Para obter o resultado da imagem acima, basta instalar o arquivo SIS que está localizado dentro do zip (em anexo) DayHand_Input_by_Mr._Milk_unsigned_6.2.0017_r2.sis. Se já existe uma versão instalada, desinstale-o antes de instalar o novo e se você tiver instalado com características chinesas pacote selecionado, e lá ele funciona, tente novamente para instalar o recurso está desativado.

Como utilizá-lo?

Após a instalação certifique-se apenas de reiniciar o telefone. O teclado estará em operação após a reinicialização, basta escrever uma nova mensagem para o teste.

Como escolher um layout diferente?

O processo de instalação faz o Opera Mini (Retrato) Huge e Opera (Landscape) os esquemas predefinidos. Se quiser experimentar o estilo de layout ou o iPhone original deve fazer o seguinte:

Il nuovo smartphone di punta di casa Nokia possiede una fotocamera di 8 Megapixel (ottica Carl Zeiss) con un sensore preciso e ultrasensibile che si adatta meglio alle condizioni di luce esterna, caratterizzato da un’apertura variabile (2.4-4.8).

Tuttavia, la videocamera non è da meno: pur essendo lo stesso modello posseduto dai più recenti dispositivi “N series”, vanta di una migliore qualità dovuta ad una messa a fuoco prefissata di 1,5m (come l’N95), con una conseguente nitidezza di immagini.

Costruito con materiali di ottima qualità, come il vetro temprato e la fascia metallica che lo circonda, è dotato di un connettore micro Usb per la ricarica, di un jack audio/tv-out da 3,5mm e da uno slot di espansione MicroSd.

The N95's Legacy and how it impacts Nokia today..........

All you gadget fans out there and even the normobs must be familiar with the legendary handset that came out from Nokia’s stables around 30 months ago, it was christened the N95 by them. Its was a legend then, and even is now but a lot of devices match it or better it these days.

Back in May 2007 when i became a proud owner of the Nokia N95 it was the best mobile phone that the market had. It beat it rivals by miles and no other phone could come near it in term of features. It had all what one could imagine. It had the following list of features that were till then unseen in any mobile device:

The first mobile phone that had a 5 Megapixel Camera that was a very good performer
The first mobile phone that had 3.5G to be commercially launched, means it could do 3.5Mbps even in 2007, Wi-Fi, UPnP
The first mobile phone that had a built in GPS receiver.
Ability to render a desktop alike browsing experience(in 2007), with flash support
The cool dual way slide form factor
The in built accelerometer
The first phone to support N-Gage
Full set of media software, with all audio and video codecs, video and image editing suites, online integration
TV out for video echoing of any application or media item to a TV or other video equipment
Large 2.6 inch screen
Facility to work in portrait or landscape mode

Back in 2007 it was a very impressive feature set and had left the competition gasping. The N95 was at the epitome of convergence. Nokia had done what no other mobile manufacturer at time could even imagine. It was mile ahead of the rest. But this also led to loads and loads of expectations from Nokia with each of their impending releases. The next in line flagships from Nokia were not even remotely as path breaking products as the N95.

The next in line were the N95-8GB, which was essentially the same phone but with 8gig on memory on board, bigger screen and battery, but nothing much to add to the feature list apart from these upgrades.

Then came the N96, it had even bigger onboard memory at 16gigs and the ability to add more via a Micro-SD card. This one even had DVBH support in built, and a newer version of the Symbian 60 OS, but apart from these it was similar to N95

Then came the N97, much hyped and anticipated. It had a 3.5″ full touch screen, a QWERTY keyboard and 32gigs of on board memory, but apart from these it had all that n95 had way back in 2007.

Nokia with these phones seems to have fallen behind the competition. The competition has better camera phones at 12 Megapixels, Xenon flash and the ability to record HD video. They competition also supports faster versions of HSDPA 3G network while Nokia is still stuck at 3.6Mbps, the one that N95 had two years ago. On the software front also the Symbian OS has not evolved as much and is felling the heat of competition from Apple and Android OS. Even Nokia has announced the N900 with Maemo(Linux based) OS.

Nokia which once was at the pinnacle of making the best mobile device which had the best convergence features in the shape of N95 has now fallen way behind others. The legacy of N95 has come to haunt Nokia as all of their devices will be compared to N95 for their ability to add new features and make the mobile a better convergence device.

Not impressed with the o2 customer service. Last week I did a bit of searching to find out what was happening with the firmware on my N96 – to see when it might be upgraded. Indeed, Nokia have released updates (V20 and now V30!) to the Symbian OS – but o2 customers are stuck on V12! So I thought I would ask o2 when they might get round to releasing their version of the software to receive this garbled reply…

On Friday I stupidly trusted the bus. Going up to Marylebone from work would be easy I though – I have 45 minutes, the no2 runs from Victoria. Easy.

Epic fail.

By the time I had crawled all of 10 metres along Oxford St I was late. Very late.

But… this did force a change of plan. A new meeting place and a trip into Marble Arch tube which is currently closed a lot for refurbishment works. It seems they really do just put adverts over adverts:

Great to see that history is sort of preserved – even if it is hidden most of the time!
