The mean temperature has been shown correct to one decimal point in the record whereas figures for 2007 are shown in round figures. So I have rounded off the mean temp. figures too, for proper comparison.

Except in a few cases, there is remarkable similarity in temperature recorded 200 years ago and now ! This exposes the fallacy of global warm-mongers. In big cities like bombay the increase in temp may be due to huge concrete forests constructed and this can in no way be called global.

ANALYSIS OF TEMPERATURE DATA

Figures speak the truth. The temperature data, comparing previous periods with the current period in respect of Indian and foreign cities are available in the statements above. Statement-1 shows temperature of Indian cities (both coastal and inland).

These have been collected from the meteorological department library at Mausam Bhawan, Delhi.

You will see that in the cities mentioned below, the temperature has remained stable during the last 50 years.

Bhuj, Bhawnagar, Surat, Punjim, Honavar, Alapuzha, Kakinada, Port Blair, Vishakhapatnam, Kolkata (temperature has actually decreased by 3 degrees), Bhubneswar (decreased by 3 degrees), Ajmer, Pune, Bangalore, Agartala, Alhabad, Kota, Madurai, Koimbature, Kolhapur, Udaipur, Nagpur.

The increase in temperature by 5 degrees in Mumbai is glaring, especially when we see the temperature in Surat remaining stable. In other words, for Mumbai the reasons my be local and not global. This requires investigation. My guess is that the huge increase in concrete buildings in Mumbai has contributed to the increase in temperature.

So far, I have been speaking about the maximum temperature. A scrutiny of the minimum temperatures reveals a certain trend of distinct increase.

Bhuj, Bhavnagar, Mumbai, Ajmer, Pune, Hyderabad, Udaipur and Kanpur show increase in minimum temperature by 3 degree. If you total the minimum temperatures of all the cities, then and now, there is an increase of 20degrees in respect of 15 inland stations whereas the maximum temperature in respect of the same stations show a decrease of 8 degrees. It should be remembered that the minimum temperature are recorded during winter months (December, January) when the sun is far away in the Southern hemisphere and this cannot be assigned to the heat radiated from the sun. Mr. Milner has also written about the winter becoming milder over a period of time. In my younger days, I use to find it difficult to take bath in cold water in winter in Delhi. Now, excepting some days of severe cold mostly caused by heavy snowfall in the Himalayas, the water is not so cold. The obvious inference is that this is actually global defreezing caused by geothermal energy.

Statement 2 shows temperature variation over a wider period of 200 years. The figures for the previous period have been taken from Milner’s book which was published in 1853. As these figures are in Fahrenheit scale, current figures too are shown in the same scale. The figures in respect of the following stations indicate stability.

Cairo, Algiers, Cincinnati, New York, Beijing (decrease of 3 degree), Paris Dublin, Copenhagen (decrease of 6 degree), Quebec, Petersburg, Bordeaux, Vienna (decrease of 4 degrees) – 12 out of 20 cities. London, Geneva and Paris show exceptional increase. However, it should be remembered that the increase is over a period of 200 years.

A word of caution: the current data have been extracted from the website “World Weather Information Service” and so the authenticity has to be verified independently.

A very reliable and scientific method for evaluation of the temperature of the globe, is latitude wise mean temperatures. Milner’s book shows 29 degree centigrade at equator, gradually and linearly decreasing to zero degree centigrade at the poles. I am unable to get corresponding figures for the current period. However, I could see from the website that figures remain almost constant, even though the figures for the polar region, now shows as approaching minus 20 degree centigrade. This may be due to better technology being employed by scientific team exploring the polar regions. I have calculated the value of current mean temperatures in respect of a few stations, comparing this value with that shown in Milner’s book. These are given in statement 3.

MELTING OF POLAR ICE CAP

The density of water at zero degrees centigrade is 0.9999 grams per cm. The density of ice at zero degree centigrade is 0.9150. In other words, 1 cc of ice weights only 0.91 gm and hence will displace only 0.915cc of water, when the ice is floating in water. When the ice float, almost the whole of body sinks below the surface of water, expect a small portion projecting above the surface. In the North Pole area, there is no land. The crust of the earth forms a huge bowl filled with seawater and a huge mass of ice floating in it just like an ice cube placed in a bowl of water. The volume of ice submerged below the ice may be almost 9 times more than the icecap which we observe above the surface of water. The molecules covering the underwater portion of the icecap absorb heat from the sea water in which it floats and melt into water. This is a continuous process happening round the clock, allover the year, irrespective of summer or winter. As I have explained in my booklet, the necessary energy is supplied by the earth itself. The role of the Sun which shines only for a limited period is too insignificant to have any impact on this process. As the density of water is more than that of ice, the volume of water generated by the melting of ice is less than that of water originally occupied by the ice block in the ratio 9999:9150. Therefore the sea level will actually come down because of the melting process. In practice, this may not happen because of the continuous deposition of snow in the polar region which will continuously push down the ice cap.

A lot has been talked about the rising of sea level because of Global warming. This is a misconception. In some places, the sea level goes up and in other places, it recedes. This phenomenon has been extensively discussed in Milner’s geography.

My contention can be tested by a simple experiment. Place ice cubes in a tumbler and fill it with water until the water overflows. Leave it until all the ice melts. Watch for any overflow of water during this process.

I quote from Milner-page-513

Excessive summers

In 763 the summer was so hot that the springs dried up.

In 870 the heat was so intense ,that near Worms the reapers dropped dead in the fields.

In 993 and again in 994,it was so hot that the corn and fruits were burnt up.

The year 1000 was so hot and dry ,that, in Germany ,the pools of water disappeared ,and the fish ,being left in the mud ,bred pestilence.

In 1022 the heat was so excessive ,that both men and cattle were struck dead.

In 1130 the earth yawned with drought. Springs and rivers disappeared ,and even the Rhine was dried up in Alsace.

In 1159 not a drop of rain fell in Italy after the month of May.

The year 1171 was extremely hot in Germany.

In 1232 the heat was so great ,especially in Germany, that it is said that eggs were roasted in the sands.

In 1260 ,many of the Hungarian soldiers died of excessive heat at the famous battle fought near Buda.

The consecutive years of 1276 and 1277 were so hot and dry as to occasion a great scarcity of fodder.

The years 1293 and 1294 were extremely hot ;and so were likewise 1303 and 1304,both the Rhine and the Danube having dried up.

In 1333 the corn fields and vineyards were burnt up.

The years 1393 and 1394 were excessively hot and dry.

In 1447 the summer was extremely hot.

In the successive years 1473 and 1474 the whole earth seemed on fire. In Hungary , a person might wade across the Danube

The four consecutive years 1538, 1539 ,1540 ,and 1541 were excessively hot ;and the rivers dried up.

In1556 the drought was so great that the springs failed. In England wheat rose from 8 shillings to 53 shillings a quarter.

The years 1615 and 1616 were very dry all over Europe.

In 1646 it was excessively hot.

In1652 the warmth was very great, the summer being the driest ever known in Scotland. A total eclipse had happened that year, on Monday the 24th of March, which hence received the appellation of ‘Mirk Monday.’

The summer of 1679 was extremely hot.It is related ,that one of the minions tyranny ,who in that calamitous period, harassed the poor Presbyterians in Scotland with captious questions, having asked a shepherd in Fife ,whether the killing of a notorious Sharp, Archbishop of St.Andrews, which had happened in May,was murder; he replied , that he could not tell, but there had been fine weather ever since.

The year 1700 was excessively warm, and the two following years were of the same description.

In 1718 the weather was extremely hot and dry all over Europe. The air felt so oppressive that all the theatres were shut in Paris. Scarcely any rain fell for the space of nine months and the springs and rivers were dried up. The following year was equally hot. The thermometer at Paris rose to 98 degree Fahrenheit. The grass and corn were quite parched.

In some places the fruit trees blossomed two and three times.

Both the years 1723 and 1724 were dry and hot.

The year 1745 was remarkably warm and dry; but the following year was still hotter insomuch that the grass withered, and the leaves dropped from the trees .Neither rain nor dew fell for several months ; and ,on the continent, prayers were offered up in all the churches to implore the bounty of refreshing showers.

In 1748 the summer was again very warm.

In 1754 it was likewise extremely warm.

The years 1760 and 1761 were both of them remarkably hot, and so was the year 1763.

In 1774 it was excessively hot and dry.

Both the years 1778 and 1779 were warm and very dry.

The year 1788 was also very hot and dry ;and of the same character was 1811 ,famous for its excellent vintage, and distinguished by the appearance of a brilliant comet.

NAGPUR: IT has been over four years since the state government banned plastic bags of below 50-micro

NAGPUR: IT has been over four years since the state government banned plastic bags of below 50-micron thickness. Still, anyone going shopping can easily get their grocery items or vegetables in one of these ultra thin plastic bags that are blamed for choking up drains as well as cattle that ingest them from garbage heaps. The menace remains strong. Reason: Nagpur Municipal Corporation, which is supposed to enforce the ban, has miserably failed in its job.

Barring leading departmental stores, almost all shops were using plastic bags of five to 10 micron thickness, NMC sources said. The sale and use these bags were continuing unabated across the city. However, now civic body has decided to take action against the erring manufacturers and dealers. Civic officials have once again started conducting raids on various shops, plastic units and even roadside vendors. Since last two months, during such raids 2128 kg of banned plastic bags were seized from various establishments and over Rs 55,000 were recovered from the violators as fines.

The NMC squads, by health officer (sanitation) Dr Milind Ganvir and officials of health department from various zones, were conducting the raids. The a health department official informed that in a recent raid on a plastic bag manufacturer at Itwari, the flying squad had seized over 2025 kg bags below 50 microns. For the first time, the accused manufacturer was fined Rs 6,000. However, if found repeating the offence, he would be fined Rs 10,000 and may also earn imprisonment of six months, he added.

http://www.visfot.com/index.php/news_never_die/2038.html

It was 97 for 3 after 15.1 overs when MS Dhoni joined Gautam Gambhir in the second ODI in Nagpur and

It was 97 for 3 after 15.1 overs when MS Dhoni joined Gautam Gambhir in the second ODI in Nagpur and from here he gently nudged India to a position from where he and Suresh Raina could then ferociously turn the course of the match.

The first ball that Dhoni faced was a bouncer from Hilfenhaus; he didn’t pick it and took evasive action without his eyes on the ball. It hit him on the back of the helmet, but he was alive to the possibility of a leg-bye; and at the non-striker’s end he could even afford a smile.

The rebuilding process began with the scrambling for ones and twos; haring between the wickets and picking the odd boundary in between. The period reminded me of a brilliant half-century that Dhoni got against Sri Lanka and saw India home without hitting a single boundary in Adelaide last year. The 119-run fourth wicket partnership at over six an over was broken with the strange run-out of Gambhir—the second time he’s lost his wicket recently while backing up.

Raina joined Dhoni with 16 overs remaining and India in a good position with 216 on the board. The next five overs yielded just 22 runs as Raina had time to get his eye in. India was 251 for 4 in 41 overs when the deft stealing had been done and the loot began. And what a loot it was.

In the next 8 overs India plundered 98 runs as Dhoni’s bottom-hand and Raina’s innovative hitting mercilessly butchered the Aussie attack. Dhoni may have curbed his style with additional responsibilities but he showed how much muscle he can pack into those typical MSD strokes if the situation demands. He jumped from 90 to 108 with three bottom-handed sixes in four balls. Flat sixes and fours that went like tracer bullets flowed from his bat before he fell in the last over having made 124 in 107 balls. There was ample support from the two southpaws and Gambhir’s 76 and Raina’s 62 later gave the captain the license to kill.

After losing his first ODI series as captain against Australia at home 4-2; Dhoni has won every bilateral ODI series home and away. The losses have been in tournaments with a format involving more than two teams; the Kitply and the Asia Cup and the two World tournaments this year.

The two finals that India won in the last edition of the Commonwealth Bank Series in Australia are the crowning glory of India’s ODI achievements. Teams with big names on paper have played in the tri-series before and Australia has mostly proved to be too hot to handle in the finals. Dhoni got Praveen Kumar and Piyush Chawla in the playing XI in the finals. Praveen opened the attack and took two vital wickets and Piyush was given the ball when Hayden and Symonds were hitting the seamers easily. They justified the captain’s faith amply and Australia managed a gettable 239 in 50 overs.

It needed a big performance on the big stage to go past Australia; and a magnificent 117 not out by Tendulkar and his vigilant and daring 123-run partnership with young Rohit Sharma, who made 66, ensured that India went to Brisbane with a lead. “He has scored 16,000 runs. I haven’t even played 16,000 balls.” That was the pithy comment from Dhoni when asked, halfway through the CB Series, if he was bothered by his senior-most batsman failing to make big runs. When his experience and ability to fashion a chase in a big match was needed Tendulkar played the perfect innings in a perfect chase.

The business was finished in Brisbane and Dhoni stepped back a little and asked for the youngest member in the team; and a grinning Chawla held the trophy aloft. That and the T-shirt he put on a young Indian fan after the World T20 win symbolises his leadership.

His giving Ganguly those few overs to lead the Test team for one last time before bowing out showed the magnanimity of his leadership—and coming ahead of all the big names in the Mohali Test showed he can take tough decisions easily if needed. He does not shy from trusting a youngster at the deep end of the sea. He respects the present and the past achievers but is pretty-much his own man. He has no need to foist himself on the team or to seek respect and that is one of the reasons why he earns it so well. Dhoni personifies the leadership required for a 21st Century India.

NEW DELHI: Australian fast bowler Brett Lee, Mitchell Johnson and all-rounder James Hopes have been ruled out of second One-Day International
against India to be played in Nagpur on Wednesday.

Lee and all-rounder Hopes are suffering from elbow soreness and a hamstring injury respectively while Johnson twisted his left ankle during the first ODI at Vadodara.

Meanwhile, Moises Henriques will join the Australian squad as a replacement player.

Earlier on Monday Aussie skipper Ricky Ponting was absolutely furious, claiming that the Champions League Twenty20 hindered his team’s preparation for the ongoing ODI series.

Three players of the Australian squad — Brett Lee, Nathan Hauritz and Doug Bollinger — joined the team in Vadodara on the night before the first ODI, after guiding New South Wales Blues to the Champions League Twenty20 title in Hyderabad on Friday.

The NSW trio missed four training sessions and the pre-match team meeting as well.

While all three arrived fatigued, Lee had this additional complaint of a sore elbow, which eventually kept him out of action towards the end of first ODI.

Sometime in the spring of 2005, two Australians were among the contenders for coaching jobs in the s

Sometime in the spring of 2005, two Australians were among the contenders for coaching jobs in the sub-continent; in India and Sri Lanka—Australian legend Greg Chappell and former Aussie all-rounder Tom Moody. India’s deciding committee was impressed by Chappell’s presentation and his ‘commitment to excellence’ mantra was given a green signal. A few days later Sri Lanka signed Tom Moody.

When the Aussie legend took over the Indian team in the summer of 2005, India’s own living legend was in London for a surgery on his left arm after tennis elbow had forced him to miss the middle part of 2004. Ganguly was under some pressure after a poor Test series at home against Pakistan while Dravid was in the form of his life and had played some memorable innings 2001 onwards.

The Indian team left for Zimbabwe for a two-Test series and a tri-nation ODI tournament with Chappell as the coach and Ganguly as the captain. The fire that began in India’s tour to this landlocked country in the southern part of Africa; and the incidents that further helped its spread across the Indian Ocean caused ripples that were felt by the two cricketing nations of Australia and India.

This period of turbulence led to Ganguly being removed as captain and later dropped from the side. It is not possible to give an accurate account of the dressing room incidents and is prudent to just keep it as a background without delving into various versions. The return of Ganguly as a Test batsman in the South African Test tour though is a story of amazing human possibilities; he certainly made a statement and the manner of his run-making in Tests said a lot about his stubborn character.

After slightly over six months on October 25, 2005, Tendulkar opened his account in the second legal delivery he faced against Sri Lanka in an ODI in Nagpur. It was a ball that was full and a trifle wide outside the off stump; Tendulkar reached for it and the coruscating drive burned the grass on its way to the cover boundary. He was batting on 11 off 11 balls when he first faced Fernando, bowling his 2nd over; he missed the first ball and played a front foot drive off the second for no run.

The third ball was a relief for millions; it was a pick-up shot that sailed over the midwicket fence for a six. Tendulkar’s riposte to speculation on his future was nothing less than stunning; he made 93 off 96 balls. This was a start to the season where India won 6-1 against Sri Lanka, 4-1 against Pakistan in Pakistan, a 2-2 draw against South Africa and a 5-1 win against England.

India left for the World Cup in decent current form but crashed out in the first round and with it also ended the association of Chappell with the team. There are no questions about Greg Chappell’s place among the game’s batting greats but his coaching career is not above reproach or rather not as glorious as his playing career.

Greg Chappell then said that India would struggle in Australia with just one tour game well before the 2007 Boxing Day Test in Melbourne. Then about 12 days or so before the tour, the Herald Sun ran a story headlined “India ‘old and selfish’, says former coach Greg Chappell”. The story said that Greg expected India to be well-beaten.

Written by Ron Reed, the story talked about an absorbing and candid documentary on Chappell’s incumbency called Guru Greg. It also dealt with Chappell’s views on India’s World Cup debacle. “We came here with a flawed group and got the results we deserved,” he said. “If there is not an intention of change, there’s no point in me—or any other coaches, for that matter—getting involved. It’s very difficult to keep putting wallpaper over the cracks. The cracks have got big and the structure needs to be dealt with.”

The story said that the views of Chappell before India’s arrival would dishearten fans. “Chappell’s honest opinion has poured cold water on the hopes of many cricket fans that the Indians would provide a more competitive series against the Australians in an already dull summer of cricket. It is a depressing thought for anyone hoping for a more competitive series than Sri Lanka has been able to provide so far,” the story added.

A Test tour to Australia is the biggest challenge in the international calendar; and a series win on Australian soil the most-prized possession for a team and its fans. Have a look at the calendar and see if our cricket board has in any way facilitated the players in giving them the best chance of succeeding in Australia. The ODI season was packed till November 18th and the Test season went on till December 12th 2007.

The Indian team arrived jet-lagged and the solitary tour game was washed out and they had to badly-lose the first Test to acclimatise; although it was a surface that according to Australia suited India the most. At least a fortnight of total rest and then a conditioning camp followed by at least two if not three tour games would have been some justice towards the team. It may have also revealed form and adjustment factor and Sehwag may have played right from the first match.

Despite all the impediments; the players gave the Aussies a series that was a bit more than just competitive. India lost in Melbourne and won in Perth; the den where Australia used a four-pronged pace attack. Adelaide was a draw. And Sydney was the whole point.

Sir Neville Cardus once said, “There ought to be some other means of reckoning quality in this best and loveliest of games; the scoreboard is an ass.” So it was a 2-1 result in favour of Australia and Ishant Sharma, according to bowling figures just took a solitary wicket in the Australian second innings in Perth. The story beyond the scoreboard is the fascinating beauty of the game. Tendulkar ended the Test series with his best return ever; two big hundreds and two sizzling scores of 63 and 71.

The young team that came for the ODIs defeated the number 1 side in the world in their backyard by winning the first two finals of the Commonwealth Bank Series; you were right Greg, but the young team won it on the back of an unbeaten hundred and a 91 by the ‘legendary old man’.

When Australia came to India, Guru Greg was with the Aussie contingent in Bangalore but was nowhere to be seen afterwards. Ganguly had announced that it would be his last series and got a hundred in Mohali and debutant Amit Mishra took five wickets. India won by 320 runs.

Tendulkar rounded off another good series with a hundred in Nagpur and the captaincy baton passed to Dhoni. India won the series 2-0 to claim the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The Sachin Tendulkar chapter is in its most-beautiful phase and Greg Chappell could do well to remember that, “Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter.”

NAGPUR: Looking at growing security challenges that Nagpur railway station faces, the signalling & telecommunication department of the Nagpur
Division of Central Railway has drawn up a Rs 3.3 crore hi-tech digital video surveillance plan.

The new system, to be monitored round-the-clock by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel, is expected to be in place in 12-15 months. The system will provide RPF and police to provide a quick response to security situation and also help investigation of crime, railway officials said.

“It will also be helpful for protection of employees, clients, passengers and assets. In addition, it will enable the railways to assess, detect, protect and recover from security lacunae,” they added. Nagpur station, which railways have decided to upgrade to ‘world class’ standard, is one of the most important in the country. On an average, 50,000 passengers travel daily from here and hence is vulnerable from security point of view. There is a spurt in thefts and bag-lifting cases in recent times. The new system will go a long in curbing such crimes as it would put entire area under permanent watch.

Officials said Nagpur would be the first station to have such a system in Central Railway. “We have accepted the challenge and propose to extend it to yards too. The best part is that we will also be able to track down unclaimed objects,” they said.

The digital video surveillance system will comprise pan, tilt, zoom (PTZ) IP-based digital cameras. Under the proposal, around 200 such cameras will be deployed to cover the entire area of Nagpur station. The new system will replace the existing closed-circuit TVs, which may be deployed at small stations like Ajni or Wardha.

The project will cover vehicle entry/exit points, circulating area, concourse on platforms including waiting room, cloak room, parcel room, reservation hall, foot-over bridges (FOBs), yard, pit shed, washing line, D-cabin, and central cabin, among other places.

The cameras will have additional attributes like zoom-in/zoom-out, tracking through motorised mechanism to avoid redundancy in connectivity, ensure failure-free transmission during cable cuts and cable thefts. All the 200 cameras will be connected to 6 or 7 monitors for real time viewing by the staff on duty.

“The software to be implemented will be third generation which will enable real time detection and potential prevention of security incidents through intelligence gathering. It will enable event-based viewing for investigating purpose,” officials stressed.

The surveillance system will be able to give real time alerts, provide answers/recording to user queries and will be able to analyse movement of objects within the field of view of camera through either colour, shape or size etc. and will provide safety and security of utmost order to passengers.

style="font-family:Mangal;color:#646464;">हैं।

WARDHA: A man was found dead on the Eastern Wardha Railway Station (Sewagram) in suspicious circumstances, though till the filing of this report
the cops could not say whether it was a murder or a natural death due to some disease.

At first glance, death appeared to have been a murder, with blood stains up to two meters away from the body, including on the walls along side. The dead body was lying in front of the ticket counter and it seemed that the man had died three to four hours before the death was noticed.

The ticket clerk is reported to have told the cops that the man had been sleeping there till 2.30am last night, when a man purchased a ticket at the counter. At that time the ticket clerk had taken a look outside his window and seen the man was sleeping. However, in the morning he saw the man was dead and blood was splattered all around. He immediately informed the station master, who called in the GRP.

Though no post mortem report had come yet, railway authorities claimed the death was caused by tuberculosis and jaundice. They claimed the blood splatters came from the man’s vomiting. GRP API Chandrashekhar Dhole said, “We will keep the body for two days, as it is unidentified. The post mortem will clear all ambiguities.”

However, Dhole too said the death may have been because of serious disease. He said, “I myself was patrolling there until 1.30am, and man was sleeping there. I told him to leave the station by the next train, and he had said he was not feeling well.”

This is a blog I had penned in March this year, 2009. Reproducing it here, as, once again, I realise, some things don’t change. India continues to shine. Reflected or otherwise. What is mine, is mine. What is yours…ummm..is….Of course, mine too:)

Vasudhaiva Bharata Kutumbkama. The world is one large Indian family.

Now with (Indian) Venkatraman Ramakrishnan sharing the Nobel, we go back to several debates which were on the back burner.

Why did we allow them (these talents) to go out of India? They have Indian blood in them and…..(Brain drain etc). Why were they allowed to settle in any other country? (Raj T Bhaiyya, please enlighten us).

Lets leave Raj and co out of our classrooms. Seriously speaking, isin’t it high time that we re-look at the higher education and research facilities in India.

We have an option. Annually, wait for the Nobel/Oscars/Grammy/etc etc and look for Indian roots. And then issue a standardised press release. Claiming ownership.

—————

blog dated 13/03/09

What’s common between Vikram Pandit, Kalpana Sharma,Vikram Chatwal and ummmm Bobby Jindal? A cursory Google check will tell you how big they are on the Who’s Who wire frame of the world. And yes, they have a strong India connect no doubt.

But ask the government in power, and it will not hesitate in staking ownership over their hard work. Don’t we remember how just everyone bent backwards digging out Pandit’s India-Mumbai and Nagpur roots the moment he was tipped to take over the Citi.

Now, take Slumdog for instance. No sooner than the Oscars were done with, the ‘CONG HI KAMAAN” , as Hindi news channels refer it as, excitedly claimed how “in the current regime, India has made it to the Oscars in such grand fashion”…. Thanks to the UPA regime, I am sure that’s what they had wanted to convey. The BJP did say (almost) the same but, worded it differently.

So earnestly did the Congressi netas say it, that I wondered if Danny bhai should have in his acceptance speech actually thanked MADAM for her contribution to the movie as well. (Imagine if had he done that, it would have become part of the campaign manifesto)

But to each his own. One wonders where the same politicians disappear when their ‘desi’ heroes are down in the dumps. I remember how local leaders had gone to town claiming proximity to Mumbai/Nagpur lad and citibanker Vikram Pandit when he took over the citi which never sleeps.

Now that he is spending sleepless nights, where are these leaders? MiD DAY’s stark revelation of Shafiq Syed, the star of Mira Nair’s acclaimed Salaam Bombay was then, a hero. Today drives an auto rickshaw. The Times of India has reported a shocking story of Preeti Mukherjee, who walked up the same podium at the Kodak Theatre when a documentary portraying her life won an Oscar four years ago. The glory and limelight was shortlived.

Poverty struck-Preeti is now into sex- trade in Kolkata.

ends
