Works like a charm!, June 13, 2011

This product is perfect for pushing back cuticles and the curette helps to remove the pushed back cuticle and clean under the nail. The fact that it’s all in one makes it so much easier also. No searching for 2 separate products and the size is compact also. The rubber grip makes it easy for gripping whether my hand is wet or dry. I am very pleased.

Great for my nails, July 29, 2011

I bought this to help me remove the leftover of my gel manicure. It did a great job of removing the gel without ruining my nail. But since then, I have used it for my cuticles and it has really helped keeping my nails clean and neat.

The pusher part is very smooth and glides over the nail without harming the top of the nail and just pushes the cuticle back. I use cuticle oil / cream on my nail beds at least once a week. This makes it much easier to keep the nail beds healthy and easy to shape.

Design FAIL! Avoid stabbing yourself. Buy the Norelco T980 instead!, October 11, 2010

I have had a beard, and thus have had beard trimmers, for almost 30 years, so I have some pretty strong ideas about what a trimmer should and should not do. IT SHOULD NOT STAB YOU IN THE FACE! But that is exactly what the new QT4070/41 does.

For years I was wonderfully happy with Norelco’s previous top-of-the-line model, the T980. I love the vacuum feature, the turbo setting cut my tough beard with gusto, and the length adjustment was generally adequate (though the settings were a bit wide apart, so 3 was too long and 2 was too short).

But the engineers at Norelco have taken a wonderfully designed T980 trimmer and screwed it up royally. The problem is with the guide comb. On the older T980, the guide comb completely covered the cutting head. But on the new Qt4070/41, the guide comb has tines that extend along the top and front of the cutting head, and END IN SHARP POINTS. So the cutting head sits exposed within a cavity between the ends of the two sets of pointy tines. Yeah, sure, that’s what I need to drag across my face all bleery-eyed in the morning – pointed sticks!

The new guide comb’s design is woefully stupid for two reasons:

1) The length to which your hairs are cut will VARY depending on the angle with which you hold the trimmer against your skin. If you hold the upper face of the guide comb flat against your skin, you get a longer cut than if you allow your skin to span the gap between the two set of tines. And frankly, you KNOW you can’t hold the trimmer at the same angle all over your face! BOTTOM LINE: AN UNEVEN TRIM!

2) Even if you are trying hard to keep the flat top of the guide comb flush against your face, you eventually have to turn a corner, like at your jaw line. I have used this Qt4070/41 about a dozen times now, and each time I have managed to jab myself with those stupid tines somewhere – in the jawline, in the chin, in the lip, etc. I know it’s just a matter of time before I (a) break a tine, or (b) draw blood. BOTTOM LINE: A PAINFUL TRIM

My advice: QUICK! Buy a T980 before it is discontinued and all bought up! Maybe Norelco will fix the Qt4070/41 by the time you wear out your T980.

BEST trimmer available…after you call Philips!, June 28, 2011

First off–like other critical reviewers you’ll find here, I also had major problems with the comb. This review was almost a ONE-star rating, due to the sharp tines and general design of the comb. This _extremely_ poor comb design caused me to stab my lip several times and also resulted in uneven trimming.

Like other reviewers, I previously owned a Norelco T980 and needed to move “up” when it would no longer hold a charge. With the T980 no longer available, it appeared that my options were either the QT4050 or the QT4070. Overall, the QT4050 is far inferior to the QT4070 in that it lacks the travel lock, quick charge, and turbo functions. HOWEVER…the 4050 has one feature that I believe was SUPPOSED TO BE included with the 4070–the “contour following comb”. If you look closely at images of the two units side-by-side, you’ll see that the comb design on the 4050 is closed–no giant gap and sharp tines with which to cut/stab yourself–and it also has a flexible guide. Those who previously used the T980 will surely recognize the design!

In my frustration with the 4070′s comb, I did some research. Philips Norelco CLEARLY markets the 4070 as using their “contour following comb”. That’s not actually true for what’s “in the box”, however. The comb that comes on the shaver is model number 422203617701, which is their “plastic stubble comb”. As it turns out, the combs for the 4050 and the 4070 are _interchangeable_, and with a phone call to Philips, I was able to get them to provide the 4050′s comb–model number 422203617711.

After you get your shaver, if you’re experiencing similar issues with the comb, call Philips at 800.243.3050 and ask to speak with a supervisor–first level reps can’t seem to approve parts orders. Explain the situation, tell them you want the comb for the QT4050 (P/N 422203617711), and they’ll send it to you, free of charge. Within a week, you’ll be able to fully enjoy what Philips should have built in the first place!

For the record–after I received my new CONTOUR FOLLOWING COMB, the QT4070 is a FIVE-star trimmer–it’s exactly what I wanted. The one-star ding represents the hassle it took to get this product to be all it should be!

Terrible for Short Beard Hair, November 8, 2010

I have previously been using a Norelco T870 but the battery stopped holding a charge so I have had to buy a new trimmer. Although there were 3 reviews here that mentioned the guide being faulty I decided to try the trimmer due to the 20+ positive reviews and the lack of a decent alternative.

The trimmer arrived this evening so after charging it for an hour I tried it out.

The guide is adjustable to give a varying length of cut. The lowest setting gives a 2mm cut and the highest 18mm. Unfortunately, the guide is made using flexible prongs which bend a good 3-4mm. This means that if you use a low setting the guide prongs will bend fully to the blade. I found this out by cutting my lip twice in the first minute of use. I also quickly found that due to the flexibility of the guide using a low setting results in a really uneven cut.

I keep my beard pretty short (4-5mm) and there’s no way I can use this without the blade cutting me and without making my beard look like it’s been hacked at by someone with blunt kid scissors. I think it would be a good product for someone with longer beard hair but for me it is completely unusable.

Better then an andis blade. No more razor bumps, July 17, 2011

The problem with most reviewers of T-outliners and other trimmers is that they do not know how to use them. 3 Years ago when I bought the T-ouliner, out of the box I enjoyed the performance. Then a few days later I noticed the blade was not cutting as well. I looked at the blade ,and i noticed that the blade had dirt in it. Use a hairbrush or a designated toothbrush to brush out the dirt…never use water. Also I used to use hairspary to lubricate the blades. It works at first,but eventually the hairspray will coagulate and get sticky. And finally I always found it a challenge to adjust the blades. I followed several tutorials and youtube and now I finally got it right. These are the three main factors why people would give products relating to trimmers bad reviews.

Now lets talk about the Promate. I had to make sure that the moving ball was in the blade hole, and then I pressed the blade down. I aligned the screw holes and tightened them. It cuts like a dream. These will cut your hair to the point where there is little stubble. When I touch my face with the grain I fell nothing, but if I move my hand against the grain I feel some stubble. This is good enough for most African Americans because of our dark skin complexion. The stubble tends to blend in with our complexion. Also since it does not cut the hair all the way, you do not have to worry about razor bumps if you let you hair grow back. Another benefit is that the blade is noticeable cooler as well.

Pros

This is cost effective. I use this every 3 days with my brother and it could last me 1 year or 8 months before I notice a serious degrade it cutting quality.

Maintenance of the blade is important. Any brand of Clipper oil will serve you well. Andis 12108-W Clipper Oil Before every cut use it, and then wipe it off the blade. You want to make sure that the oil goes into the blade, and you do not want the outside of the blade to be oily.

Use a brush to clean the blade during use, especially if you have a dirty face. The blades will clog and performance will decrease.

Once a month’ open the body of the trimmer and use an airblower,or toothbrush to remove hair. Be careful with vaccums because they can potentially give a static shock.

You can use a Smith Abrasives DBSF 6-Inch Diamond Sharpening Stone – Fine to lengthen the life of your blade. However it will not get as sharp as a professional sharpening service. I find that the 15 to 7 dollar sharpening service may be a hassle. I would rather just buy another 16 dollar blade after a year.

Andis Cool Care Plus for Clipper Blades I think I may purchase this in the future. It is has fungicide and other bacteria killing ingredients. i feel this is good to use if you share your blade. It can also lubricate your blade as well.

As an African American, I never get razor bumps using this. Even if I let my hair grow back.

Extremely cost effective. 50 dollar trimmer that can last for a decade if cleaned properly. Blades are under 20 and can last to a year depending on frequency of use and lubrication. Those can also be sharpened as well. The oil can last for years since you only need 3 drops every time you use it. I hear some people just use the Andis Cool Care Plus for Clipper Blades and do not use the oil. I know andis would probably want you to use both, but it would make sense to just use the big spray can.

Cons

It will not get close as a safety, strait, or foil shavers. However it will give a shave with a slight stubble.

Received these terry slippers in my hotel room and made sure to pack them home. Because the insole is terry, they do not slip off your feet. Very handy for after bath or shower, padding off to breakfast, or just admiring your pedicure.

Perfect Pair, July 25, 2010

I wanted a slipper that I could use in hotel rooms and that would not take up a lot of space in the suitcase. These are perfect. I bought several pairs to have on hand because they are disposable, and after several washings, you will have to replace them. It is also nice to keep a pair or two in the guest room closet for visiting friends and family.

Works for Shellac CND nails, January 19, 2011

After reading the reviews, I purchased this UV dryer. I just wanted to leave a little more feedback on this dryer in regards to shellac nail polish. I bought this product to do my own nails. I am not a nail tech, but fully capable of doing my own nails. So here is what I did, I purchased the shellac scrub fresh nail prep, shellac UV base coat, shellac red barroness nail color, shellac UV top coat and this dryer all from Amazon sellers. Here is what I did step by step and it worked.

1. Follow Shellac’s instruction on how to prep nails and use products-go to their website. I shape my nails and cuticles, then use scrub fresh to clean and dehydrate.

2. SHAKE the UV base coat for two minutes and paint both hands! I didn’t shake well the the first time and the base coat and nail color came out too thick.

3. I put nails under light to cure for 30 seconds. Nails will feel tacky (not dry) and this is normal. Has to do with oxygenation with curing.

4. Shake color -paint one coat of color on both hands and put under light for two minutes-nails will feel tacky. This is normal.

5. Shake color-paint second coat of color on both hands and put under light for two minutes-nails will feel tacky. This is normal.

6. Shake top coat-paint top coat on nails-place under dryer for two minutes. Use 99% alcohol to remove tacky layer on top coat. I used 70% alcohol pads and this worked fine! A tiny bit of nail color streak came off on alcohol pad but I continued on removing tacky layer. When I was finished, nails were perfectly cured. Polish has been on for 10 days and still look brand new. If nails lose their shine due to lotion…-wife off with alcohol pad and they look brand new.

7. When ready to take off-either soak off with 100%acetone on cotton balls with aluminum foil or soak fingers in acetone. I wouldn’t bother with the CND pad removers.

Bottom line-this lamp works great for Shellac nails-no need to buy 0 plus one. You will read so many mixed reviews about why you shouldn’t be doing it yourself and using anything but the CND dryer, but this is what worked for me.

WOW it’s big. The two hander was the same price at the one hander so I got the two hander. It’s pretty honkin. My main complaint it that it only has 2 and 3 minute auto timer and I would really like a 1 minute which I think it claims to have) for doing the OPI Axxium. Works very well.

UPDATE! 7 months later.

Axxium is too hard to take off so I’ve started using CND Shellac. FANTASTIC, but don’t let them snow you that you need the “official” CND light. I use this bad boy and get two weeks of perfect wear out of my Shellac. Love this light. Also the OPI light is 0+ and you can only do 4 fingers at a time and thumb seperately. lame. LOVE THIS LIGHT

Great lamp and perfect for UV nail polish!!, November 13, 2010

I was fed up with my nail polish chipping, over acrylics so tried UV polish…loved it – nail polish that stays shiny and does not chip off for at least 2 weeks – what was not so appealing was the fact that it cost plus tip locally!

After doing some research I decided to purchase the CND Shellac nail polish / base coat and top coat which require a UV lamp to set the colors. I paid 0 for all items – polish and lamp which is not bad, as by polish number 5 I will be saving my cash!

CND has an official lamp with a rather high price tag, so I saw this, reviews looked good so decided to give it a try!

It has three settings: 2 minutes, 3 minutes and constant. It also does come with the three bulbs it needs (be careful as they are tucked away in the box and I almost missed them!

It is a good size – you can fit two hands or two feet in at the same time so it allows you to complete your UV process much faster! Similar lamps tend to be smaller – and more expensive!

It works perfectly for these UV polish systems and set my color just fine with no need for a repeat cure. Your nails will feel tacky at the end of the process, but simply follow directions, wipe your nails with an alcohol pad and you will be good to go – the lamp does the trick perfectly.

If you are looking for a UV lamp to use with UV polish systems, this is a great choice – good price, several settings, and large enough to cut time off your mani’s!

Gel toe separators, September 16, 2011

I need one of these toe separators to cushion a Morton’s neuroma on my left foot–amazingly, that’s all it takes for me to walk without pain from the neuroma. Well, that and decent, flat shoes with a wide toe-box, but all of that is better than surgery, IMO. I was using the three-layer foam separators, and I have purchased some of those as well; I thought these gel ones wouldn’t be wide enough to cushion adequately but they seem to be working, which is nice because they are thin and comfortable, last longer and are easier to wash and dry. Between the two products, I should be set for a long time.

I just recieved this kit about a week ago and so far its been great. I’m new to the whole nail art scene. I’m unemployed and bored. Thought I would start a new hobby and why not nail art? I used to do my nails with the brushes that came with the polish and that took forever!!! Now with these brushes,there is such an assortment and the sky is the limit. I can do some cool details. My first was zebra stripes!! What fun that was, I had a ton of compliments. I also love the dotting tool that comes with it. I made dots on my toes that look kinda like cheetah prints. You can spread them around, let them dry then add another dot inside. AWESOME. I’m trying my hand at palm trees for my daughter next. I did a fade of sunset colors on her hand and thought that would be neat.

Overall, these brushes seem strong and ready to take on the task of many painting adventures, but like I said I’ve only had them for a little over a week. I love them so far. They even came in a nice plastic case. It will work until I find something better to store them in. Good luck to all you Nail Crazy Fashionistas out there.

The brushes were awesome!!!! I was so excited to use them when i got them! They came in a little plastic carry case and came just as shown in the picture! The only bad thing was the on the dotting brush the top came off but it was no biggie i just put it right back on! Totally worth it

Does the job, March 15, 2007

A decent nail brush. I purchased it to clean out the assorted grime that accumulates after a day of construction, and it does fairly well. I wish it had stiffer bristles, and also have had some problems with grimy water getting inside the body of the brush, as it is constructed of two pieces popped together. This is not an issue for anything but aesthetics, however, as it does not effect the function of the brush.

Works great but single row loses shape fast!, December 21, 2006

I ordered 6 of these from J & R Music/Computers (went directly to them because I could only order 1 or 2 from the Amazon website at the time) to save on shipping because my last nail brush w/a single row for nails was purchased from Avon 32 years before. I found that if you use the same brush over and over the single row of bristles seems to splay (spread out) and not able to get under the nails as when new.

Since we have them placed in the kitchen and 2 bathrooms I found that the less used ones seem to stay in better shape. I ended up purchasing 6 more when Amazon.com had them for sale recently (with free shipping this time) and hope that alternating use of more than one will cause a better lifespan.

Nice brush!, January 7, 2010

We purchased several of these brushes a few months ago to put in the kitchen and bathrooms. Like one reviwer stated, it would be nice to have stiffer bristles, especially the single row side for under the nails. What is nice is once you are done with the brush and put it down with the single row facing down, the brush is tilted and drains nicely.

for the price, you cant beat these. they do what they need to do and do it well, with any kind of nail paint. the only reason i gave it four stars is that the tips are not all different sizes. yes, they are double sided but you only get five sizes anyway.

comfortable, effective, easy to clean, January 30, 2011

These do the job, unlike the thin gel-like ones (see my other review). However, they only stay in place with shoes that fit exactly. If the shoes are generously wide (which I need for bunions), they can slip out of place. However, these foam ones are the least likely to slip of any type of separators, and I’ve tried a bunch.

(The velcro one does stay in place overnight but is uncomfortable and squishes the toes next to their outside neighbors. This is not good if you are prone to athlete’s foot.)

These foam separatros are easy to clean with a liquid dishwashing soap or Nutrogena. They dry overnight.

Well worth the money, September 19, 2008

I’ve been buzzing my own hair for a dozen years or so now. I’m a white male in my early 30s with thin/ thinning hair on top. The in-and-out chain barbers do a terrible job, and if you want a good cut from a real barber, it’ll cost you more. So me, being cheap, I’ve gone through several of these cheaper clipper sets over the years – Remingtons, Wahls, Conairs, all without much success. Then I found this Andis set and figured I’d give it a shot.

Well that was several years ago. I’ve been using my Andis since then without any problems. Just some clipper oil and brushing it out after each cut.

The only complaints I have are that it does get hot rather quickly, but you can buy the Cool Down spray for that (that stuff smells good; makes it smell like a real barbershop!) And the power cord is a little on the short side; but that’s easily fixed with an extension cord.

But those concerns are minor. This clipper is awesome at what it’s supposed to do – cut hair. I also love that it comes with a super-short 1/16″ & 1/8″ guards (or at least mine did). Those short lengths are usually hard to find on these bargain-priced models as most only go down to 1/4″.

Honestly I’ve REALLY got my money’s worth out of this clipper. I would absolutely buy this again. Actually I would probably spend more money and get a nicer Andis professional version, or a cordless version. Recommended – I’m an Andis man now.

**Updated July 2010 – I was looking at my reviews and saw this from almost 2 years ago (and it was probably 2 years old at the time). I’m still using it today. It still works really well, which is shocking given that I shave my head & beard approximately every other week. Same original blade for me; just some clipper oil before & after every cut.

Also, surprisingly, the guards all still work and haven’t broken like some other cheaper brands I’ve had before. The motor on these clippers is fantastic. Easily one of the best value-purchases ever. Highly recommended. I wouldn’t buy any other clipper brands other than Andis now.

***Re-updated November 2010 – I dropped my original Andis on my tile floor from several feet, causing some damage to the original teeth/ clipper part. So I trudged back to the Wal Mart and bought a new Andis clipper for appx . This newer version feels ever-so-slightly cheaper in terms of materials. But I have basically the same comments as above. Heats up too quickly, short cord. But where it matters most, it still does a great job of cutting hair. For the money, these Andis clippers are one of the best things you can buy.

Awesome, December 23, 2004

I have been searching all over the country to find this since purchasing my original headliner 3 years ago. This is an ideal shaver for various parts of your body, not just your head. This provides almost as close of a shave as a razor without the nicks. Men/bodybuilders who have been looking for a quick way to shave without spending hours in the bathroom with a standard razor or Nair will love the headliner. There is a small amount of stuble left, but hardly any (comprable to how your face looks after you shave with a razor). A very close shave w/NO RAZOR BUMPS!, January 11, 2007

I’ve been using this for the last 3 months and I’m a very satisfied customer. I get a very close shave, and no razor bumpors. I’m Afircan American and my beard is coarse and curly, sometimes with many razor this can lead to ingrown hair problems. I highly recommend this, because it’s a much close shave than the typical elctric razors by brands such as Braun and Norelic. It’s very cheap and the only maintainence is clipper oil. I cam across these because the only time I would get a great shave was at the barber. When he used clippers on me I’ve never had any problems with ingrown hair, therefore I decided to own my own pair of clippers. I’m very pleased with with product and highly recommended as a very effective and affordable method for shaving and trimming.

easy use, September 19, 2011

While it looks wicked, don’t be afraid! It fits nicely in the hand, and gives easy control even when soapy. I have more control, and get a better job done in less time than with any pumice stone I have ever used. It rinses clean quickly. No questioning the quality here, it is not some cheap Oriental import. I did take away one star because there is no hole or loop in the handle to hang it up in the shower. That said, the shape of the foot file allows it to rest on a flat surface, and there is no stain left behind, and it dries quickly. I expect it will last a long time. Too bad I found it so late in the summer, because my heels now look human, not like its time for a trip to the blacksmith for new shoes.

I’m not a foot file aficionado but I’ve had a horrible callus on my foot for months from running and a friend suggested a foot file. This one did the job nicely. The price is right — very well made and easy to clean.

Great tool!, May 22, 2011

I was pleasantly surprised at how much more solid and substantial this foot file is compared to those I have had in the past. The handle is perfectly shaped and has silicone like inserts on each side that make it easy to grip, even when hands are wet and soapy. Having the two sides – rough and fine – allows its use on more delicate areas as well as tougher areas like heels. I would have loved it even better if there were some sort of hole or hanging apparatus on the handle so I could hang it in the shower rather than balance it on my wire shelves. But overall it is a great asset and I would highly recommend it.

Bargain price for amount and product quality., January 7, 2011

I ordered the white, as all of the choices appeared more or less white or some variation thereof. I did not see any yellowing as another reviewer did. They arrive in a plastic bag filled with ten smaller plastic bags numbered #0 – #9. #0 is the largest, #9 is the smallest. You can easily fit even the largest nails in any other plastic multinail container, such as KISS or Nailene. They come long, and most people will want to cut or file them down. If you do your nails often, I would invest in a professional nipper/clipper, though I use a good pair of Fiskars to halve the length, followed by an extra-coarse file to shape and an extra fine to finish.

The nail itself is flatter in the back and begins to arch near the front of the nail bed. Many artificial nails have a uniformly high arch and this can make fitting difficult. I have found the flatter back gives a superior bond while the higher-arched front looks just like any other regular acrylic tip. I have used all different types of glue and found that generally the glue type doesn’t matter as long as the bond to the nail is good. I used to wear other nails and they would come off at the end of one week due to water weakening the glue bond. I started to get a fungus on my paper thin, weak, soft, peeling nails. Since having the better fit, the fungus is long gone. I have routinely been able to wear these nails TIGHTLY for 10-14 days, and even then it has been somewhat painful to remove them (due to the sensitive texture of my own nails, and I don’t soak them off). I consider this good because I had to change my nails weekly. I do not fill-in or cover with acrylic, so it was a new set when I changed my polish. These adhere so closely that the appearance of growth is very minimal and can be easily filed down and polished over again. I also found the nails sturdy enough to withstand a round of cheap nail polish remover, a buffing block and a nail file to make them polish-ready again.

The other thing I have found quite handy is using the #0 nails for “sample” nails. While I am not a manicurist, I am a polish enthusiast. When I get a new color or want to see how some colors will look on top of one another, painting a spare thumbnail is a great way to remind yourself of how a color will look and an easy, mess-free way to test it. I will post several photos of me wearing these nails so you can see how well they take color, along with the “sample nails.” If you are an avid do-it-yourself manicurist, these win over every drugstore/big box store brand I have used. They are sturdy, substantial, do not flip off, break, crack or split — and most importantly to me, you can USE them without hesitation.

Edit 5/13/11 – I have since purchased a spring-loaded salon clipper and it is wonderful. These nails cut easily when unpainted, and will cut without cracking if you have to trim them a bit after painting – or several layers of paint and topcoats. I have found that I can use non-acetone remover on my nails (of course glitter takes longer) and keep them on for up to three weeks. I just file the backs down, again, no fill or acrylic of any kind. I will secure any loose edges with nail glue. After removing the majority of the polish, I use a quick swipe of acetone on each nail to remove all polish traces and whiten the nail. I use a standard four sided buffer (normally for natural nails, I think) to resurface the nails, and reshape as needed. This way I avoid the “two week fill” look. I have started using Nfu-Oh’s Nail Prep Freshener (search for it online for the US distributor). It is expensive but worth it. It is a dehydrator which enhances the bond between the nail and nail bed. I continue to be very satisfied with these nails. Note: If you use acetone to soak off these nails, they WILL turn into plastic goo that is incredibly difficult to remove. I suggest clipping with nippers little by little, and maybe using a cotton swab to direct acetone to certain areas to soften the bond.

great bargian, November 15, 2010

I have been buying full coverage french nails at for a pack of 24 so this is a great deal. I paint them before putting them on and then when they are dry I shape and glue them. They look great! They are not as bright white as the photo so I would not use them with clear polish, but if you are using color polish they hold the color well, do not chip, and look really real. I would recommend these!

I received my order today and was very disappointed. Nowhere in the advertisement description did it say that there were only two separators in a package that cost . The picture looked like there would be five at least. Also the shipping cost – for a little envelope. Ridiculous.

Great product! Not like other toe spacers that make your toes feel uncomfortably jammed apart. Instead, these gel spacers conform around toes to space each digit safely apart so that polish won’t smudge–all the while feeling as though there’s nothing between your toes at all. This would make a fantastic gift or stocking stuffer for anyone who paints toenails at home.
