Let’s begin!

Wickliffe … the town that has nothing left … it’s lost everything … the lost town … no, it’s not lost yet … it’s somebody’s home, home to the people who live there … life is not what it used to be … why? … it’s in the past … life has passed the town by … but people still care for the town … why is the town important? … it has great history … but is history enough to keep a town alive? … historical town … a town of ghost … ghost town … my hometown … the hometown of Kate and Jane and Stuart and Wendy … but there’s no future … there’s no hope … The town of no hope … the town of no future … towns … village … township, suburb, hamlet, village, small town, whistle-stop … blink and you’ll miss it … take over of a town … what’s the lifeblood of a town … a country town … country … bush … the river … just around the riverbend … the castle … a man’s home is his castle … wheat … hay .. sheep … cows … the future unknown … the future is lost … wayside … place marker … Lake Bolac … sister town … families … the town of no future … the town of ghosts … the town of memories … the town of lost hope … lost … misplaced … resigned … vanished, disappeared, gone missing, gone astray, forgotten, nowhere to be found; absent, not present, strayed; irretrievable, unrecoverable … bygone, past, former, one-time, previous, old, olden, departed, vanished, forgotten, consigned to oblivion, extinct, dead, gone … but not yet extinct … on the edge of extinction … surviving … struggling to survive … a town struggling to survive … a town like Wickliffe … so many towns like Wickliffe … crying out but not heard … losing their voice … lost in the future … lost to the future … why carry on … what’s there left worth fighting for … what are we fighting for … something to fight for … something worth fighting for … somewhere to fight for … a town worth fighting for … no … somewhere to fight for … better … a town to fight for … home is worth fighting for … fighting for home … hmmm …

Ok … it’s about 10 minutes later, and I think I’ve stumbled onto a couple of options.  Looking over my ramblings even the beginning was showing I couldn’t find anything that stuck out and told the story in a simple phrase.  The further I went along, the more I broadened my concept of what the new musical was about. With a little help from Mac’s built in thesaurus, I moved from what they were losing toward what they were trying to save.
