Định mệnh phi thường của Namu . .

Namu là 1 cô gái Moso từ bé, cô ta chỉ lo làm 1 việc chính : giúp người cậu chăn yacks (1 lọai bò Tibet, cho sửa làm bơ) 6 tháng gần làng, 6 tháng trên núi cao hơn, với ngươì cậu không bao giờ nói chuyện với Namu, và ngủ bên yacks Namu kg bao giờ đi học , ngay cả học cũng không, ngay khi được 13t.

Thế giới Moso, lúc đó trước 1980, ngoài ngươì Hàn (TQ theo Moso là Hàn) tất cả các nước khác là Nhật. Nhìn những con chim từ bên kia núi đến hồ Lugu, hay những người buôn bán đến từ xa, Namu muốn biết bên kia sườn núi có gì thế tại sao 1 cô gái bắt đâù như thế, mà khi biết đọc, thì tìm các sách về Hillary Clinton, Madonna, Mère Teresa, Jackie Kennedy và đặc biệt nhất là Frida Kahlo, v.v. để đọc và xem đó là thần tượng (các bạn nên xem tiểu sử Frida Kahlo, họa sĩ , thiên tả , 1 Hillary Clinton mexicain , rất độc đáo và Lt rất thích và phục, kg phải vì thiên tả, mà vì ca’ tính, lãng mạn và nghi lực. Cô ta hát thử cho GD 1 tổ chức văn hóa các dân tộc thiểu số nghe, và được ông ta nhận làm thành viên cho đoàn hát muà xuâm 1989 tháng 5/ 1989, Namu đến Tianmen, giữa đám sinh viên biểu tình (váy ngắn, bông tai, giày cao gót, v.v. ) và biết rỏ là không thể ^thục hiện mộng tại Pékin Çuô.c tàn sát Tienanmen sau đó làm Namu quyết định rơì TQ. Magazine Cosmopolitan 1998 tuyên bố cô là “the best dressed woman in China” Bazaar : the China’s sexiest woman song song với nghề ha’t, model, Namu vẫn viết, thơì đó cô đã viết 12 tác phẩm được phép phổ biến trong tiệm sách TQ : từ chu? đề đơì sống cổ truyền Moso đến cách sô’ng hay hạnh phúc của đàn bà modern . Hâù hết các sách Namu đêù là best-sellers. El maestro respondió: ¡Mú!

(Antiguo koan de la Transmisión de la Lámpara)

Namu Amida Butsu es la naturaleza del Buda, Amida. Según la escuela del País Puro, esta fórmula encierra la posibilidad de la Iluminación, Satori, una situación de la mente en que la conciencia rebasa los contrarios. El secreto del Satori es estar unificado. Para lograr ese estado permanente, se requiere desarrollar al máximo la Voluntad de la Verdad.

Cuando hubo terminado de hablar, Namu, el sabio psicofísico se inclinó sobre la reluciente máquina. Arremangó levemente las amplias mangas de su túnica mientras apretaba el control de grabación. Escuchó en torno suyo palpitar el silencio del cónclave, esperando el resultado. Se aproximó al delicado receptor de fibrógeno y musitó la sílaba rotunda, eficazmente.

Dijo: “¡MU!”

La palabra vibró en el silencio con una sobrecogedora intensidad y las cámaras neumáticas del aparato la repitieron interminablemente. Las miradas se dirigieron hasta el espacio vacío, en el fondo del salón, esperando. Sucedió como una leve turbulencia, un agitarse de colores en gestación.

Un MU apareció, materializado, tangible y aparentemente vivo, bajo el hueco de luz.

Un murmullo se elevó de los espectadores sorprendidos porque nunca habían visto un MU y también porque no habían creído nunca, hasta ese momento, que un MU, ni cosa alguna, pudiera ser producido en esa forma.

El maestro Namu sonrió complacido en tanto abría los brazos en un gesto ritual. Luego fue hacia el MU -que era de un color azul intenso- lo tomó con delicadeza y lo condujo a la parte central del hemiciclo. Una vez allí, con aquello a su lado, se dirigió a la concurrencia.

“Los MU no siempre son azules”, dijo. “Los hay también verdes y amarillos y de algún color que aquí no conocemos, el amasto, semejante a un ocre muy oscuro. En realidad, lo azul del MU no es tal color, sino un estado de ánimo”.

-¿De dónde viene? – preguntó una voz anónima.

-De mi interior – respondió el viejo psicofísico.

-¿Y la máquina? – inquirió otra voz.

-Reemplaza la Voluntad Perdida – dijo el maestro Namu, mientras acariciaba con la mirada la gran parafernalia de metal que llenaba la parte oriental del hemiciclo.

-Esta máquina es un aparato volitivo y también un mito técnicamente representado: sus planos obedecen a la traducción técnica de unas viejas palabras – agregó.

El escepticismo tomó forma en el rostro anónimo de los circunstantes. Levemente, el MU cambió de color: su azul brillante se enturbió con tonalidades rojizas. En realidad, la audiencia se habría burlado del sabio psicofísico, si la presencia del MU no fuera un testimonio decisivo.

-Los MU no siempre son azules, lo repito. -dijo Namu-. Ahora tórnase rojizo, porque está a punto de desaparecer. Cuando llegó, el MU era azul radiante, porque todos nosotros lo vimos y creímos en él porque ahí estaba. Ahora que intento explicar cómo vino al mundo y quién es el MU, ustedes no me creen y el impacto psicológico de su escepticismo cambia la naturaleza de los MU. Esto hace que la iluminación que producen sea siempre fugaz.

Dichas estas palabras, los inteligentes prejuicios de la audiencia aumentaron y aquello que estaba al lado del psicofísico subió de color como un carbunclo hasta llegar al rojo vivo, luego tornóse blanco y después desapareció. No emitió calor, no hizo ningún ruido, ni siquiera se movió: simplemente dejó de estar entre los hombres.

Namu fue implorado de construir otro MU, pero se negó. En vano sus colegas y alumnos se acercaron al singular aparato de la voluntad y murmuraron a su oído electrónico la palabra en cuestión. La máquina fue sorda a sus intentos y ni una leve sombra de MU enturbió el hueco de luz.

II

Pero los MU, lo mismo que todos los seres que viven en la región de lo nonato, pugnan por venir al mundo. En realidad un MU que ha sido pronunciado ya nunca deja de existir; puede que cambie de forma, que use un tipo de materia más sutil, que mude su color a una frecuencia invisible, pero ya nunca quedará tranquilo e intervendrá chocarreramente en cada oportunidad que se presente para tratar de volver. Su medio natural son los sueños, en donde viven los MU como en su propia casa.

Así fue como el sabio psicofísico soñó una vez un sueño prodigioso: brillando con su azul mejor, un MU hallábase en medio de un hemiciclo enorme. A sus espaldas se elevaba una gigantesca parafernalia de glincalín y metal y frente a él hacinábase una multitud de pequeños MU nonatos. Un silencio tangible pesaba sobre esa multitud anhelante.

En un gesto vagamente recordado, el MU se inclinó sobre el inmenso aparato, mientras manipulaba un control. La sílaba sagrada se oyó nítidamente, pronunciada sobre el oído mecánico, repetida mil veces por el eco de las cámaras neumáticas.

-¡NA!

Las miradas de los MU nonatos se dirigieron sincronizadamente hacia el espacio vacío que esperaba como un hueco de luz al extremo del salón. Hubo una leve turbación y Namu apareció, intangible y aparentemente vivo bajo el haz de luz.

Un murmullo de admiración escapó de la audiencia, sorprendida porque nunca había visto a Namu y también porque no había sabido nunca, hasta ese instante, que un hombre pudiera ser producido en forma tal.

El MU se azuló, complacido, mientras giraba sobre sí mismo como una peonza. Luego fue hacia Namu -que seguía soñando-, lo tomó de la manoy lo condujo a la parte central del hemiciclo. Una vez allí, con el sabio a un lado, se dirigió a sus congéneres:

-Los hombres viven sumidos en un estado singular llamado sueño, que generalmente confunden con la inteligencia -dijo el MU-. Cuando hablan y caminan creen estar despiertos pero la conciencia de los hombres está siempre dormida aunque sueña estar despierta.

-¿De dónde vienen? -preguntó alguno.

-Del mundo exterior -respondió el MU.

-¿Y esa máquina? – inquirió otra vez.

-Es el organismo dentro del cual vivimos -dijo el MU mientras acariciaba con la mirada los circuitos servomotores, las neuronas y todos aquellos contactos, pasadizos intrincados y cavernosos, masas grises y blanduzcas que formaban el cuerpo celular de Namu. Luego dijo en un susurro: Esta máquina es el aparato de la voluntad, que los seres humanos han olvidado utilizar.

El desconcierto operó un cambio de color en la audiencia, que se tornó rojiza y Namu despertó.

III

Dispuesto a realizar la enseñanza que había recibido en sueños, el viejo psicofísico se inclinó sobre el aparato que reemplazaba la voluntad, arremangó las mangas de su túnica y comenzó a destruirlo concienzudamente, hasta que la voluntad mecánica quedó reducida a una chatarra. Luego, en medio del silencio expectante, dijo claramente:

-¡NAMU!

Sorprendidos, los circunstantes lo oyeron pronunciar su propio nombre. Dirigieron la mirada hacia el nido de luz y vieron a otro Namu, idéntico al primero, caminar en derechura hacia él. En la fracción de un segundo, vieron las imágenes sobreimponerse, fundirse la una en la otra, hasta formar una sola.

El maestro Namu sonrió complacido, y abrió los brazos en un gesto ritual. Luego se dirigió a la concurrencia:

-Na-mu es el Sí y es el No y no tiene color, porque es todos los colores. No se divide en consciente e inconsciente. No distingue entre el sueño y la vigilia porque su realidad es el resultado de los dos. No posee una cara interna y otra externa, sino un solo rostro unificado. No reconoce noche y día, bien ni mal, tristeza o alegría porque ha aceptado que los contrarios forman parte de su ciclo vital. Por lo tanto Namu, el hombre que ha pronunciado su nombre, es Uno solo, de naturaleza inmortal.

A continuación, el viejo sabio psicofísico se puso a escuchar -con sus propios oídos- el nombre de todos los presentes. Cada vez que lo hacían, la Voluntad de la Verdad crecía en ellos, iluminándolos con una nueva Luz.

Tomorrow will be 3 weeks that I have lived in San Francisco.

So far I have,

• had amazing meals at…. Ame, Spruce, Gary Danko, Town Hall, Namu, Shalimar, Ferry Plaza Farmers Market, & this Dim Sum place in the Richmond
• staged at Spruce (twice), Gary Danko (Friday will be the second time there), Campton Place (Tomorrow 4.8.09 I have to come up with a 3 course meal. Can’t wait!), The Slanted Door (on Saturday 4.11.09), Boulevard (sometime next week)
• got my own place
• bought a bike (learned why gears are important!) riding all over the city!
• begun to learn the transportation system
• walked a lot
• holy hills
• been cold since day 1 but slowly getting use to it
• bought a new ibanez acoustic electric
• been to some really cool bars Buckshot (right by my house, they have big buck hunter call of the wild, skee ball, a perfectly level clean pool table with straight sticks, darts, shuffleboard, and photobooth, with cheap drinks) and the Pig & Whistle (an English Pub by my house as well)
• learned not to leave the broiler on or the fire alarm will go off and fog up the house
• learned how to take apart the fire alarm so it will turn off
• learned how to get the power working again when you have too many things going on and you “blow” a fuse or something
• learned i need to drink more water
• finally quit biting my nails so i got a manicure
• met some rad folks
• i think i got a tan? if thats possible…
• met Ron Siegel from The Dining Room at the Ritz (first American chef to defeat an Iron Chef (Hiroyuki Sakai) the original Japanese version. Unfortunately he is not hiring
• been to Dolores Park several times! Love it there!
• love how the weather keeps my hair all nice and straight
• Elsa & Mayra are amazing, so lucky to have them in my life!
• becoming domesticated learning everyday household things
• lots of great wine and beers
• been to the ghetto (the tenderloin) and completely enjoyed it! On one corner there was some girls weave all over the place, crack heads everywhere being crack heads calling me names like flavor and , saw some old lady, no joke, take a shit out side in front of somebodies house in their little garden and walk away like she didn’t just take a shit outside in broad daylight.
• not skated, fuck that. i have a lot of respect for people who skate around the city here. Everything is uneven and steep
• went to a gold party and they had a piñata (silly latinas)
• not figured out how to close the blinds in my living room
• shopped and shopped and shopped. they have everything you could ever want here.
• Found Jason Tyler Grace. Super badass tattoo artist in the haight. I’m on the 6 month wait list

All in all, I love it here. I’m having a great time. I’m living the dream.

When I was a young boy growing up in the Alsace-Lorraine region of France, my favorite TV show was L’Home Improvement. My least favorite parts of L’Home Improvement were the Tool Time segments. Except when Tim and Al did the Man’s ______ segments. The Man’s Kitchen, the Man’s Bathroom, the Man’s Conservatory, etc., etc.

Last night I filmed an episode of Tool Time with JB and Daddy Daycare. We shot a segment called the Man’s Meal. It went like this. 

Three man’s men, sit at Namu in the Richmond, drinking sake and eating fried sea urchin, inappropriately cheers-ing things, discussing fears for the future and the fallacy of spring love. At 8:55, the three men adjust their tunics and grab their clubs and head down the street to Tekka for sushi. The man’s men order way too much sushi and scoff when the tiny, adorable proprietress of the restaurant says, “Are you hungry? That’s a lot of food.” 

The Man’s Meal meal itself consists of tonkatsu (1), hamachi kama (2), and prehistorically large nigiri. As in, Super Mario Bros. 3, Level 4 everything-is-huge slices of fish.

Of course, if you’ve already read the Yelp reviews of Tekka, you know all about this. You were not deceived or distracted by the one-star ratings like the average halfwit Yelp user (“thats y i give this place a one …I dont want to expose this place….. but it is really a 5!”). You’ve forged through the stunted thoughts of Timmy T., and Roberta Q., and Dingle B., and now you’re watching the Man’s Meal on your Blackberry Pearl while waiting outside Tekka for the nine o’clock seating, which you dutifully arrived for at eight.

The man’s man doesn’t read Yelp reviews.

Or he does, but he is careful to laugh about them with other men.

Inside Tekka, the three man’s men sit with their tiny beer glasses, taking up three of the restaurant’s eleven seats. As we wait, Daddy Daycare regales JB and I with a story of a recent party he attended at an occasional club, where he drank from a young coconut (not a metaphor) while beautiful women and old sailors gyrated and twirled on the dance floor. It sounds like a cross between the mysterious meatpacking plant that George takes Jerry to in Seinfeld, and a dark corner of Confederacy of Dunces. We continue to wait. There is some talk of going to Toyose for chicken wings after dinner if it should turn out that eighteen pounds of fish is not enough to sate us.

Of course it is. Toyose was only a drunken pipe dream.  

There is too much food. The elvish sushi chef has bested us. His grin is warm. The sake and the beer and the James Taylor performance on the small TV behind him enhance the supernatural quality of his appearance. He is ancient, but glowing. He drinks sake with the six Chinese youths at the sushi bar. Later I speculate that he doesn’t mean to be cutting such Flintstonian portions of sushi, but his age and his eyesight and his freewheeling nature betray him.  

Regardless he has made us happy. We feel camaraderie and brotherhood. There is some karmic good that has been done here this night. There are better things we could eat—better for our finances, the environment, our health, what have you—but this is the right thing to eat.

Afterward, JB and I sit in his house, musing over the night’s events. We’re largely silent. We listen to Deerhunter and Yeah Yeah Yeahs and the guy who wrote “Umbrella,” that Rihanna song. Occasionally one of us remembers something ridiculous from the night and ponders its significance outloud.

My eyes start to strain at around midnight, and I decide its time to return home. I listen to terrible music loudly on the way back.

This blog post has grown ill. It is dying of a loud and disgusting disease.

Tool Time: The Man’s Meal airs this Saturday on ABC Family and HGTVHD

(1) Revelatory, dude, honestly. A dish that made me not want to cook anymore. What’s the point when this is already out there? Rather than serving the standard breaded pork cutlet, Tekka’s tonkatsu is pounded out and rolled with shiso leaves, then breaded and fried. Dressed with the traditional sweet, sticky tonkatsu sauce, and served atop strawberries and asparagus. When asked if the strawberries were a traditional thing or if she just made it up, she said, “I made it up. I needed the red color. I had the green color, and I wanted a little red.” That sort of belies the genius of the dish, but either way, accidental or intentional, it was fucking perfect. 

(2) My mom sent me this text message the other day, apropos of literally nothing:

Half grown yellow tail is hamachi. Full grown is call kanburi   or winter yellow tail. Very eat expensive

When I replied, “What??” she said:

Just fyi. Kanburi is very expensive full grown yellow tail from cold water. Very fat.

Soom has released 60 cm. Gem and 28 cm. Teenie Gem ‘X-mas kits’.  These are unassembled dolls and they come with the elastic cord, parts, eyes, s-hooks, and instructions for assembly. The Gem Girl types available are; Pepper, Mint, Sweet, and Violet. The Gem Boys available are; Laon, Kanoa, Godo, Namu, Rian, Dimo, and R.Dimo. The Gem Girls available are; Nion, Asil, Gena, Kyrie, R.dillui, and Dillui. All of the dolls can be ordered in cream white or normal skin. Face-ups can be ordered for an extra cost. i was luxuriating in GG park yesterday, when J txtd me.

“happy hour?”  was the message.

after much back n forth, we went to Namu in the inner richmond.  they have a happy hour of sorts.  grill menu, sake flights, appetizers, etc.

food was excellent.  mushroom dumplings!  bacon wrapped enoki mushrooms! chicken wings!  pork meatballs!

then we went out for a drink.

i’ve always said that my 2nd favorite neighborhood is the inner richmond, and want to make it a more regular stop on my nights out.

we go to the buckshot.

it’s basically a dive bar. dive bar food.  dive bar drinks.  a video game here and there. pool table. darts. and skee ball!  STFU!!

i knew i’d love it there.

and drinks are really cheap.  $3 for a pint, $6 for a mixed drink. i could hardly believe it.  (i should start hanging out at dive bars again. it’s way better on the wallet!)

i could go on and on about how much i love it there. but i won’t.

it was totally fun though.

i’ll definitely be back.

i just don’t know when.  i’ll have to take the bus there after work.  luckily, it’s on the 38Geary, which runs all night.  and now that i’m well-versed in nextmuni.com  it’ll be excellent!

Speaking of Teddy Riley, there’s tragically little out there honoring/tributing the man considering all the shit he’s done for pop music in the 80s and 90s. I mean, did you know he produced a majority of the tracks on Michael Jackson’s Dangerous album?! I didn’t, until I watched this:

In Brazil, five summers ago, I was chopping it up with a native Rio De Janeirian, aka a carioca, and I mentioned that I lived in the SF Bay Area. “San Francisco?!” he exclaimed, “That’s the most beautiful place in the world!”

Keep in mind, he lives in Rio De Janeiro, which looks like this:

So, after 8 years, almost to the day, I am leaving the most beautiful place in the world for LA.

There shall be more reminiscing posts to follow, but for now, I am celebrating (is that the right word?) my farewell this week at two events:

In August 2007, after quitting my job and touring Southeast Asia, I linked up with David, Dennis, Dan, Paul, Mayra, and the rest of the family at Namu Restaurant & Bar to start a party that I had dreamt of doing for several years. One year and six soul tribute nights later, we’ve come to the end of my reign as organizer, promoter, and resident selector for Devil’s Pie, my twice-a-month Soul party.

Don’t worry folkers: Devil’s Pie will continue to run and flourish under the capable hands of Devil’s Pie family Paloma, Do D.A.T., and our new resident dj/musical director Wonway Posibul.

We’re celebrating our first birthday with a set from one of the Bay Area’s most important and influential tastemakers: DJ Lovelee.

Devil’s Pie is the soul party I organize and dj every 2nd & 4th Thursdays at Namu Restaurant & Bar in San Francisco. If you’re in the Bay and you haven’t been to Devil’s Pie or Namu, you’re missing out!

Namu is an intimate Japanese/Korean joint run by 3 brothers: David, Dennis, and Dan. There are other words that might describe the restaurant better, such as “asian fusion,” but to use them would be against my principles. Yes, Namu has amazing food (try the Kobe beef or Miso black cod); yes, Namu has the best selection of Japanese/Korean beer, sake, & soju (try the Orion or Echigu beers); but, the real reason to go to Namu is the people that run and staff the joint: coolest muhfuckas ever.

Oh and Devil’s Pie? Imagine all that goodness, PLUS good soul music all night?! yup. orgasms galore.

diesen Flug von Sandspit nach Bella Coola machte ich schon vor vielen Tagen und natürlich schoss ich auch eine Menge Bilder. Heute  Morgen, als ich endlich mal den Bericht fertigstellen und die Bilder noch mal sichten wollte waren sie… fott, weg, away… entmaterialisiert… einfach nicht mehr da.

Also werde ich den Flug von Sandspit nach Bella Coola ein wenig beschreiben.

Wir befinden uns also auf den Queen Charlotte Islands -> Sandspit.

Die Queen Charlotte Islands (Haida: Haida Gwaii) sind ein Archipel vor der Nord-West-Küste von British Columbia, Kanada. Die Queen Charlotte Islands bestehen aus den beiden Inseln Graham Island und Moresby Island sowie ca. 200 kleinen, vorgelagerten Inseln. Auf den Inseln lebt eine Vielzahl seltener und endemischer Tierarten, wie etwa die größte Unterart des Amerikanischen Schwarzbären (Ursus americana carlottae). Viele Baumarten wie etwa die Küstenkiefer, die amerikanische Roterle und der Riesenlebensbaum sind hier heimisch. Die Inseln wurden von Kapitän George Dixon nach seinem Schiff, der Queen Charlotte, benannt.
Unser Flug führt uns zunächst über die Copper Bay bevor wir den rund 66nm-Sprung über das Wasser (Hecate Strait) zum Festland beginnen.
Zwischen Banks Island und der Estevan Group tauchen wir ein und drehen kurz vor Campania Island nach rechts ab und folgen unserer Route über Rennison Island, Harvey Islands und Price Island.
New Bella Bella lassen wir rechts liegen und Bella Bella/ Campell links und das Airfield Shearwater (YSX) wieder rechts liegen… danach geht es geht es gerade aus weiter, bis wir den Fjord erreichen.
Sobald wir über dem Wasser sind, drehen wir nach rechts ab und halten geradewegs auf Namu (ZNU) zu. Den ersten Fjord, der nach links abzweigt nehmen wir… das ist die Port Hardy – Bella Coola Schiffroute. Hier bleiben wir und folgen dem Fjord vorbei an Kings Island, South Bentinck Arm… North Bentinck Arm bis wir an der Bucht vor Bella Coola City ankommen. Von dort aus ist es nur noch ein Klax bis zum Bella Coola Airport (CYBD), wir folgen einfach dem Bella Coola River und sind schon fast da.

Ein Musthave für diesen Flug ist sicherlich Holger Sandmann’s Bella Coola Szenerie  aus dem Jahr 2004, die noch immer ein Knaller ist!

The sun is setting on our first day of sailing, as we gently float here off the coast of what I am told is Namu. With so many islands in the atolls, it’s hard to say. The boys are in the water hunting for dinner while MG and Tanaka chat up on deck, enjoying our respite from the nausea-inducing waves of earlier in the day.

I was excited to pull into someplace calm, having spent most of the our travel time laid out with a blanket covering my head, chanting, “It’s just a waterbed. It’s just a waterbed. It’s just a waterbed.” and pretending I was curled up in an old friend’s bed. Needless to say, this couldn’t have been further from the truth (in discussing the symptoms with my shipmates, I stated that it was *EXACTLY* like the worst hangover EVER with none of the alcohol). And while I am afraid that I was in the way – as evidenced by my kneeing the other passengers in the butt as I tried to fold in on myself laying on a foot wide piece of boat praying for death or calm waters, whichever came first - I couldn’t bear to be below deck; the constant wind calms seasickness. I was also told to stare out at the horizon, but with the boat rocking wildly back and forth and to and fro, there were times I couldn’t FIND the horizon, much less focus on it. 

Even though I initially declined the Dramamine or Mezclazine or whatever it is, I think that I will have to take one today or suffer the consequences – especially since we will be sailing through the night to make it to Ailinglaplap by tomorrow. I cannot imagine being on watch in this roughness in the middle of the night with no lights and no horizon to make things more bearable. Only me and the stars. Yup, drugs PLEASE, as many as you’ve got, party of ONE.

My favorite experience thus far has been the shower – YES! ME! The off the boat shower – which I clearly did not expect. You never know how much salt you collect during the day until you face the prospect of not being able to clean it off. I would have made some horse very happy – they like salt licks, don’t they? I watched MG for cues, and was pleasantly surprised to find that I was happy and clean at the end of my jump, shampoo, jump, conditioner, fresh water rinse routine. It did help that there was still lingering light that hit the water. I’m not sure I would’ve had the courage to jump on in to the inky blackness. Regardless of whether I had been able to see that there were no sharks only moments before.

I felt guilty as I said goodbye to Dh today, although I know I need the break from the island and my little life. I hope that he has the opportunity to sail like this one day. With TD too, who looked wistfully at the boat as we pulled away.

The day was not without bumps, however. As soon as we pulled out of Kwaj, the rope holding the boom snapped, leaving TC to go all the way to the top of a mast in a tiny CHAIR. While the boat rocked! That was held at the end by our other shipmate! That is trust. And strength. Everything was fixed in a jiffy, though, and soon we were underway and I was frighteningly ill.

I think it has been worth the mild (okay, MAJOR) discomfort, as I sit here, buffeted from the wind by a beautiful, deserted island.

I have no idea what is in store for me, but I am ready for it.
