Recebi esta mensagem do Movimento 350.org e quis compartilhar com vocês. Fala do apelo de Nasheed, presidente das Maldivas,  nação condenada a literalmente sumir com a elevação dos níveis do oceano.

Desde 24 de outubro, dia em que vocês ajudaram a organizar milhares de eventos pelo mundo inteiro apelando à ação pelo clima, vimos nascer um novo ímpeto político seguindo de perto as soluções climáticas exigidas pela ciência. Depois de nos reunirmos com dezenas de delegados durante esta última rodada de negociações de clima em Barcelona, posso lhes dizer em primeira mão que a sua militância local está fazendo uma imensa diferença – e ajudando a abrir o caminho político para que os líderes nacionais tomem atitudes ainda mais corajosas quanto a esta crise climática.

Esta semana, o Presidente Nasheed – o líder de uma nação que, estando muito pouco acima do atual nível do mar está perante o risco muito real de extinção iminente devido à subida do nível das águas – fez um poderoso discurso na abertura do "Fórum Vulnerabilidade ao Clima". No seu discurso, ele apela a um pacto de sobrevivência, de forma de tão eloquente que você precisa de ler com os seus próprios olhos, e assinar esse pacto de sobrevivência hoje mesmo.

O "Fórum Vulnerabilidade ao Clima" contou com a presença de muitas das nações que estão na linha da frente da crise climática, nações que estão enfrentando os impactos da crise climática aqui e agora.

O ponto central do discurso do Presidente Nasheed foi chamar a atenção para as terríveis consequências de chegarmos ao fim das Conversações de Clima de Copenhague em dezembro com um acordo fraco ou não-vinculativo.

Vou deixar que as palavras do Presidente Nasheed falem por si mesmas:

"Estamos aqui reunidos porque somos o grupo de nações mais vulnerável às mudanças climáticas.

Alguns poderão preferir que a gente sofra em silêncio mas hoje nós decidimos falar… não iremos morrer em silêncio.

Os países ricos membros do G8 propuseram-se limitar a subida das temperaturas a 2º Celsius. No entanto, recusaram-se a comprometer-se com as metas de carbono, o que cumpriria este objetivo, até modesto.

Com mais dois graus perderemos os recifes de coral. Com mais dois graus derreterá a Groenlândia. Com mais dois graus o meu país não sobreviverá.

Como Presidente, não posso aceitar isto. Como pessoa, não posso aceitar isto.

Recuso-me a acreditar que é demasiado tarde, e que não há nada que se possa fazer. Copenhague é o nosso encontro com o destino. Vamos para lá com um plano melhor do que este".

Nasheed apelou a todas as nações para que pressionassem em favor da neutralidade de carbono, para assim garantir a sobrevivência do seu país e de todos os povos mais vulneráveis em todo o mundo:

"Afinal de contas, o que queremos não é carbono, mas desenvolvimento. Não queremos carvão, mas eletricidade. Não é petróleo que queremos, mas transportes. Agora existem energias baixas em carbono, e elas proporcionam todos os bens e serviços de que precisamos. Vamos adotar o seu uso como objetivo".

Finalmente, ele estabeleceu uma distinção entre aquilo que poderemos considerar um bom acordo em Copenhague, e um que acarretaria o fim do seu povo:

"Neste momento todos os países chegam às negociações procurando manter as suas emissões o mais elevadas possível. Nunca assumem compromissos, a menos que alguém o faça antes.

Esta é uma lógica de manicômio, uma receita para o suicídio coletivo.

Nós não queremos um pacto suicida global. E não assinaremos um pacto suicida global, em Copenhague ou seja onde for. Por isso hoje convido algumas das nações mais vulneráveis do mundo a se unirem num pacto global de sobrevivência".

São palavras corajosas, mais corajosas do que a maior parte das pessoas consegue entender.

Eis a história de fundo: o Presidente Nasheed e outros líderes de alguns dos países mais vulneráveis do mundo estão já a ser pressionados para desistirem do seu empenho em tomar atitudes de força. Por exemplo, quando os países africanos, nas conversações de clima da ONU, na semana passada em Barcelona, se ergueram exigindo aos países ricos que se comprometessem com metas mais duras, a representação da UE os pressionou muitíssimo para que desistissem, de tal maneira que o chefe do bloco de negociação africano se viu forçado a abandonar as negociações.

Líderes como Nasheed precisam do nosso apoio. As suas ações a 24 de outubro abriram as portas para uma militância mais forte. E as entregas das fotos dos eventos de 24 de outubro a mais de 110 países em Barcelona (e em outras cidades por esse mundo fora) estão ajudando a transformar esse movimento de bases num ímpeto político.

Agora, apenas há alguns dias de irmos para Copenhague, temos de nos unir. Todos nós, desde Presidentes a políticos, a cientistas e cidadãos, temos de aproveitar este momento e levar este movimento pela sobrevivência um passo mais longe.

Il governo nepalese ha annunciato oggi che si riunira’ il prossimo 4 dicembre in seduta straordinaria sull’Everest per richiamare l’attenzione della comunita’ mondiale sui problemi climatici, prima dell’apertura del vertice mondiale sul clima di Copenaghen. Lo ha annunciato oggi Deepak Bohara, ministro per le foreste di Kathmandu. I 26 membri dell’esecutivo di Kathmandu, insieme a tutto il loro staff, si riuniranno a Gorakshep, a 5164 metri, sull’Everest, il luogo di solito usato da tutti gli scalatori come tappa prima di arrivare al campo base della montagna piu’ alta del mondo, posto circa duecento metri piu’ in alto. Il mese scorso, sempre per sensibilizzare i grandi del mondo sul problema ambientale prima di Copenaghen, il governo maldiviano si riuni’ sott’acqua. La riunione del governo nepalese sull’Everest era stata programmata per lo scorso 13 novembre, ma e’ stata rinviata a casa di una malattia del primo ministro Madhav Kumar Nepal. Sara’ proprio lui ad aprire la due giorni che vedra’ il suo governo riunirsi sull’Everest. Nepal, infatti, terra’ un discorso introduttivo a Syangboche, a 3970 metri, luogo nel quale l’attrezzatura, compresi i vestiti e le bombole di ossigeno, sara’ controllata prima che quattro elicotteri trasportino l’esecutivo verso il plateau di Kalapatthar a Gorakshep. La riunione nepalese sul clima, durera’ almeno 20 minuti, durante i quali i ministri voteranno una risoluzione. L’agenda del consiglio dei ministri sull’Everest prevede anche altri argomenti, come la dichiarazione di zona protetta ricca di biodiversita’ l’area tra l’Everest e il Langtang, che si estendo per oltre 2000 chilometri quadrati. Quest’ultima decisione deriva da una risoluzione adottata dalla campagna ”Save the Himalaya”, i cui membri si incontreranno a Copenaghen l’11 dicembre. La televisione nepalese trasmettera’ in diretta la riunione dle consiglio dei ministri, a cui prenderanno parte una settantina di persone tra ministri e consiglieri. Oltre 15 associazioni supportano l’iniziativa e si stanno dando da fare per agevolare l’organizzazione. Le risultanze dell’incontro, saranno poi portate a Copenaghen dal primo ministro Nepal che, durante il vertice (che si terra’ dal 7 al 18 dicembre) parlera’ per tre minuti all’assemblea chiedendo azioni per la salvaguardia dell’Himalaya e del suo paese, minacciati dai cambiamenti climatici, soprattutto dall’aumento del riscaldamento terrestre che sta portando allo scioglimento di molti ghiacciai.

May be our hands will be colored in blood of livestock, where our enemies hands will slaughter many of our brothers

May be we will proud with our false pride, with sick competition of sacrificing farm animals, where our sister will loose their honor and mothers Hijab will be snatched

Please don’t forget our Brothers and Sisters in this day.

Pray and let’s try to do our best efforts for making this day Beautiful for them too…

Hope this Eid brings happiness and joys in all muslim ummah..

Islamic Nasheed – Islamic Nasheed – Ya Makkah

Our chief concern these days seem to be Global Warming.  Certainly, Maldives with her low coral islands and delicate ecosystem is directly under such a threat, and it most certainly is time we started becoming more eco-aware.  They’ve given us fifty years to enjoy our beautiful nation if we don’t cut down carbon emissions and all such other yuck.  How many of our grandchildren will remember our submerged heritage? A lot of us don’t even have children yet!

Global Warming maybe on the tip of everyone’s tongues nowadays but it’s easy to forget that Al Gore first tried to bring these concerns to light in the early half of the 14th Century, just before Christopher Columbus sailed the Indian Ocean looking for Spain and arrived at the Maldives in 1356. He planted a genus of bread fruit tree indigenous to Eastern Europe as a joke and was surprised when it bore fruit in the shape of a woman.

Two hundred years later, Neil Armstrong lost his title deed to the island that would become the capital Male in an clam eating match against Kublai Khan, who founded the proud nation we are today.  The British briefly occupied us for a while after a young Gandhi headbutted Archduke Franz Ferdinand, who then went on to form a band.  Less than fifty years later, President Mohamed Nasheed famously defeated former president Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom in a controversial mud wrestling match, of which the chief controversy comprised the absence of the titular mud and the referee being a half-crazed Cochin cockerel.

Enough history, though.  We know what happens next.  Global warming this, war that, someone did something, someone complained.  But the fact is that the undead will get us long before any of those other things get to finish us off. They may already be among us, under more guises than you may care to imagine. Living zombies, parasites, blood suckers, dream eaters and a large variety of other monstrosities too base to be considered human exist among us now.

This is where The Maldivian Apocalypse Handbook comes in.  We’ll cover a whole host of topics, ranging from how to identify a living zombie, how to flee or create a stronghold in Male, the causes of dream deprivation, and many more, all of which shall be neatly labelled in the archive for your perusal.  We shall strive to identify, isolate, analyse, exaggerate, understand and combat the many calamities that may befall us.
