Shawn Johnson is back in the gym. She has looked in better shape the last few times I have seen her so I think this has been in the works for awhile. She isn’t committed just yet but she is seeing what she can do. Look no one cares about anything but the Olympics so she has plenty of time to decide. Lets just hope if she decides to compete again she goes all out.

I can hear Nastia now. “I haven’t decided if I am coming back yet. I won the one thing I really wanted (AA Go me!) lol

Here are the lyric’s to the song Without me by Eminem. Tell me the lyric’s don’t fit the next 3 years if Shawn comes back and so does Nastia?

Athlete of the Decade. Tiger Woods. Please. We can banter about the definition of “sport

Athlete of the Decade.

Tiger Woods.

Please.

We can banter about the definition of “sport” until the cows come home and while we’ll have fun doing it, we’ll never come up with a definitive answer, but “athtlete” is pretty easy to define. By strict definition, Tiger Woods is an athlete. From dictionary.com: “a person trained or gifted in exercises or contests involving physical agility, stamina, or strength; a participant in a sport, exercise, or game requiring physical skill.”

There’s no question that golf is a game and that for the players who walk the courses and don’t ride in carts, physical skill and conditioning (not to mention a good pair of shoes) is required. Having played golf a number of times, I admit that physical agility is also required. So Tiger Woods is an athlete. However, when comparing athletes, which is what determining an athlete of the decade is about, isn’t the level of athleticism required to excel consistently something that should be a determining factor in deciding an athlete of the decade and if so, I’m curious where that variable is factored into the naming of Tiger Woods as Athlete of the Decade because I don’t see the demands of the sport of golf being equal to the demands of baseball, football, hockey, tennis, boxing.

Tiger’s the best of the golfers, I won’t question that, but the best of every athlete of the last decade, that’s where I’m not so certain. When I hold the game of golf up against the sometimes extreme physical and mental demands of other games like baseball, football, boxing, tennis, it fails. Not the game itself, but the physical and mental demands of the game. Likewise Tiger Woods, to me, fails in comparison to other athletes when I factor in the level of performance excellence required to succeed in those various games. In other words, while I recognize Tiger Woods’ athleticism, I think it takes more athletic ability to succeed at other sports than it does to succeed at golf. I don’t deny Woods’ skills and athleticism, but I question how the determination of something like an athlete of the decade can be made without factoring in those types of physical demands. I wonder how one matches someone like Tiger Woods, and by extension the game of golf, up against someone who plays a physically demanding game or competes in a physical contest that requires them to obtain, and more importantly maintain over a lengthy period of time, not only a physical skill, but an enhanced level of that physical skill? Not to take anything away from Tiger, but how does his level of athleticism measure up to a boxer, a MMA fighter, an NFL running back, receiver or linebacker, a gymnast, a major league baseball pitcher, a soccer player?

I won’t deny the huge impact Tiger Woods has made on the golf world, but I don’t know if impact on the sport, or the ability to generate revenue, is reason enough to be named Athlete of the Decade. I think the only reason Tiger Woods wins the honor is because the physical demands of his game allow him to complete for years and years and years at the same level he’s always competed at which is something other athletes can’t do. In other highly competitive and physically demanding sports, careers are limited and shortened through age, injury and simple wear and tear stresses to the body, so the fact is an athlete simply isn’t around for ten years and if s/he is around for that length of time, s/he’s not completing at the same superior level consistently. That’s not the case in golf. At 34, Tiger Woods, even after taking a year off to deal with his personal life and eventual recovery from whatever issues he discloses, will be able to continue to walk the course and play golf at a superior level for another 30 years. Albert Pujols, Johann Santana, Mariano Rivera, Ray Lewis, Peyton Manning, Manny Pacquiao, Floyd Mayweather, Serena Williams, Erin Popovich, Nastia Liukin, none of those athletes can hope to have the same career expectation and I’d give any of those athletes the vote for Athlete of the Decade over Tiger Woods.

So I got back into blogging, fell back out. Really it was just school. Because let me tell you, W

So I got back into blogging, fell back out. Really it was just school. Because let me tell you, Worlds put me so far back with my assignments. Plus we all know there is a lull after such a big meet. Of course I still keep up with everything. And since I feel like writing a blog post yet have no particular concentration, I am writing all the random things I have been contemplating and discussing with my gymnastics buddy. These are in no random order whatsoever.

Who will destroy Alicia Sacramone’s comeback? Will it be Kayla Williams, the girl who has the light speed ability to improve, and someone who looks to be a true force and a rock of a competitor? Will it be Asac’s reincarnation from her own gym, Alexandra Raisman (who I believe may show us the real first quad twist on floor) or even Alica’s own body betrayal?

Aliya Mustafina will be standing on the AA podium at the 2010 Worlds

Viktoria Komova will be standing on the AA podium the year after that

Shawn Johnson and even Nastia Liukin will not compete again. Comebacks may come when endorsements run out, but that is it.

Anna Myzdrikova I already hope to be the 2010 FX champion

Cheng Fei will come back. She will.

Nobody will ever do a front handspring better than Lilia Podkopayeva. NO ONE comes close to that; her feet are even together.

I think it is a huge mistake to hold off using the 5-3-3 team format until the London Games; it is a bad idea period to use the Olympics as a test for anything.

On that note, the age rule is now even more frustrating. For instance, our current junior national champion, Kyla Ross will not be senior eligible until 2012 (as opposed to the previous rule where she could have been competing in 2011). Considering the year before is a qualifier to the next year’s Olympics, think about what that does to the non power countries. Let’s say that Nastia came from oh…..Iceland (trying to pick a place where they don’t get a spot) and that she doesn’t turn 16 until the year of the Games. She wouldn’t be able to compete because no one qualified for a spot the year before. That would be wrong. I oppose anything that prevents the best in the world from competing. This is why I was sort of turning my back on the He Kexin debate last year. Furthermore, one of the reasons the age rule is there is because those in charge think that it puts too much pressure on the youngins. I will have to disagree with this because you can’t advance in this sport without being able to deal with pressure. My proposed age rule is this: When you are eligible to compete in the next Games, you are senior eligible for that quad. Meaning that starting January 1st 2009, Kyla Ross would have the option to go senior.

if I haven’t harped enough, I am sooooo hoping for Russian reemergence this quad, starting with the 2010 worlds. In addition to Mustfina, Tatiana Nabieva is another going senior. I think the Russians need a bit more for vault (hopefully Nabieva can clean up that Amanar) and then I just don’t see where they have a weakness.

I wonder what will happen with Bridget Sloan; will she fade out? Will she remain useful? If she got an Amanar (and I am dying for her to do the front triple twist on FX) she would up her own usefulness. Interesting stuff to think about.

Will Chellsie Memmel return? I want her to so bad! She and Nastia have sort of an open invitation to comeback whenever due to their incredible usefulness on one event; bars. I also find it odd that bars has become our weak event over the last couple of years considering they were once our strong event.

That is all for now, folks.

Isn’t that a clever title? It’s a Paramore song on a list that talks about crushes. Oh man this is probably one of my best titles yet. I mean nothing compares to it. The song says that too. Anyway I have an inability to think of witty titles so bear with me. Also this post is a complete rip-off of ssjrem’s post. Like ssjrem I to have had no luck with women. The one relationship I had lasted a week and made me realize that I don’t even want a girlfriend right now. Women are just too much for me. That doesn’t mean I’m turning to men either even though I have gay tendencies according to my one friend at work (this accusation centers on my liking of Twilight). The other girl that I was and probably still am interested in is now pregnant with another man’s baby. She is also the opposite of who I am. She drinks and smokes among other things. Does that make any sense to you? Yeah it confuses me as well. I don’t know how long the list will be but I know who the 1 and 2 will be. Well I think I have a pointless opening paragraph now. I might as well get to it. These are my celebrity crushes.

#12 Danneel Harris

I’ll start off the top 12 with Danneel Harris. Who is that? I don’t know. All I have to say about Danneel Harris is that I don’t know what I see in her. She’s obviously hot. I’ve never even heard of her. I had to look up her name. All I know is that she’s in Harold and Kumar: Escape from Guantanamo Bay. I just saw her in the movie and all of a sudden boom I had a crush on her. Also the Harold and Kumar movies are hilarious in my opinion. it’s just shocking how far they go with some jokes. People in the movies are so racist it’s ridiculous. I feel I shouldn’t be laughing at the horrible jokes but it’s just too funny. I recommend the watch for the humor and Danneel Harris. She’s 30.

Does anybody remember the show American Dreams. Well, it was on the air for two years I think and Brittany Snow starred in it(Kristen Bell is in an episode as well). My sister used to watch it all the time and she absolutely loved. I would watch it with her. Why? Brittany Snow. I don’t know what it is about her but I watched. The show was awful and that’s why it was on the air for two years. Again I used bad judgment and watched John Tucker Must Die because she was in it. Eventually I realized she’s not in anything good but she’s still hot and cute. That combo is key. She’s 23.

Charlize Theron is amazing. I really like the movies that she’s in. The Legend of Bagger Vance is one of my favorite movies of all-time. Men of Honor is a great movie. I also enjoyed The Italian Job and Hancock. Apparently there’s a Hancock 2 in the works. The Road has potential but I’m skeptical because I didn’t like No Country for Old Men. I can’t believe that won best picture. I would go see The Road because she’s in it and so is Viggo Mortensen. Anyway, Charlize is beautiful. She’s also clearly talented as an actress. I really respect what she does. She’s a little old. Well she’s not old she’s just old for me if she happens to go out with me. She’s 34.

Jennie Finch can pitch. Just wikipedia her and you’ll see the numbers are phenomenal. You’ve got to love good women’s sports player. She’s a beast but at the same time she’s hot. She’s probably the only reason I’ve watched softball. One time my one friend told me that someone at his house was watching the U.S. Softball Team. When told they were on he asked, “Is it the bottom-half of the inning?” He was told “no it’s the top.” To this he responded, “Well tell me when it’s the bottom-half of the inning.” The U.S. was the home team. She’s beautiful and talented. Finch turned 29 in September.

The question is, where did she go? Her professional career didn’t turn out well at all. She burst onto the scene as a teenager and her future looked promising. She was at one point ranked six in the Tennis world but she fell off the map after she got injured. She quit tennis to be an actress and a model I believe but since her last tennis match I’ve never heard from her again. She was bad at tennis but who really cares. She’s gorgeous. She’s 28.

Well, she is the bitch in Mean Girls, which is actually a decent movie. She’s also in Wedding Crashers, which is really funny. I get what Owen Wilson saw in her in the movie. She’s really cute. I can’t wait for Sherlock Holmes. She should be good in that as well. She also does a nice job in State of Play, which has Russel Crowe. He’s a great actor. I like her in whatever color hair she chooses. She’s also in The Family Stone. I had to watch this but I don’t remember why. It had Sarah Jessica Parker in it and as Peter says on Family Guy “Her face looks like a foot.” Oh right she’s also in “The Notebook,” which I have never seen. Guys have told me this movie is good. That’s scary. She’s 31.

C’mon she’s Scarlet Johansen. Do I really have to explain why I have a crush on Scarlet Johansen? No I don’t think I do. She is absolutely gorgeous. She was in one of the greatest movies I’ve ever seen, The Prestige. It even says on the cover you’ll want to watch it again as soon as you finish. It’s true. Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman are also in the movie. It’s fantastic. Anyway, what else is she in? Is she in The Island? She’s in that Vicky Cristina Barcelona movie I think. Well she’s in other things and she’s married to Ryan ReYnolds(notice the Y in between the e and n). He’s a lucky man but I guess he deserves it. He is in fact Ryan ReYnolds. What a couple. I mean every time they have to do a movie with some other person it’s got to be a step down. She’s going to be in Iron Man 2. She’s 25.

However, the first time I saw her was in my favorite show of all-time, 24. She plays Jack Bauer’s daughter, Kim. Kiefer Sutherland isn’t so bad himself. Anyway she was always that damsel in distress being chased by the bad guys so they could get to Jack. She’s actually an annoying character at times but she’s really hot. Wow I have to get to a 24 post at so point. Top 10 Bauer moments that would be a good one. Maybe I do have a man crush on Kiefer Sutherland. Anyway, she’s really great and has been in a lot of bad movies. She’s still showing up in 24 and I think that’s where she needs to stay. Wow she’s 27. I thought she was younger. Oh well.

Every year it seems as though I have a crush on the lastest gymnast. Much like The Blob from X-Men Origins “I love her. She’s a gymnaaast.” Well yeah that’s pretty much how it goes. I have no idea what it is about that Olympic event but I fall in love. Despite what the media will tell you, Nastia Liukin was the best American gymnast at the 2008 Olympics. Shawn Johnson choked. Well, she choked according to the expectaions. Liukin had three silver medals, one bronze, and one gold in the all-around. Johnson had three silver medals and one gold medal. She lost to Liukin in the all-around. So I have a crush on the one who performed better. Well, that’s true but that’s not why. Johnson is too young at the age of 17 but people who are older than me do think she’s hot. I think right now it’s pushing it. Liukin is 20 and much better looking. Like I said she’s a gymnast.

#3 Kristen Bell

I’m going to start this post with a WOW!! and I’ll end it with one too. This girl is definitely the hottest nerd out there. On top of being ridiculously hot this girl just has the cuttest face you’ve ever seen. It just pulls you in when you see it. She also has a great smile that lights up a room. It’s great to see one minute she’s doing a photo-shoot and during the break she’s eating a cheeseburger. That’s just awesome. I know she’s in Veronica Mars and Heroes but I’ve only seen her in Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Fanboyz. Both movies were really funny. In Fanboyz they tried to make her look like a nerd and take away how hot she is. They were unsuccessful. She’s just too beautiful. It’s great when gives people following them the “pressed ham.” In my opinion she should have been cast as Rosalie in Twilight. Nikki Reed just doesn’t cut it. Rosalie is supposed to be a blonde and the most beautiful woman in the world. She’s not even the hottest girl in the movie. That title belongs to Ashley Greene.

She’s 29. I almost forgot WOW!!!!!

#2 Hayley Williams

Hmmm…didn’t somebody else put Hayley Williams at #2? Well as far celebrity crushes go she’s the obvious #2. I don’t like a lot of bands with female vocalists and if I do like one I’ll only like a couple songs. Was it her that turned me on to the band? No. Before I liked her I really liked the music a lot more. However, she passed test #1. She’s hot and cute at the same time. That’s a great combination. Then I realized something. Hayley Williams has a phenomenal voice. She makes you want to sing too. It’s fantastic. So I respect what she does. That’s step two. What brings her to the top of this list is that she’s down to earth(much like my number one choice, I wonder who that could be). She’s very humble. When she was named second sexiest vocalist in rock behind Amy Lee of Evanescence, she pretty much said that she’s not and I don’t know what people are seeing. I just respect that. Whatever color hair you choose I’m good with it.

She’s passionate about what she does and she’s the lead singer of a great band. On top of that she’s hot, cute, and humble. What more do you want?

She’s 20 right now but soon to be 21 on December 27.

#1 Kristen Stewart

Everybody who knows me well saw this coming. Kristen Stewart is the most down to earth actress I’ve seen. During interviews she seems so nervous and has said that she does get nervous. It often gets interpreted as she’s high. The media rips her to shreds every chance (I need an AP Book but I think media is considered plural) they get. The biggest culprit in this is OK Magazine, which gets away with everything. They can say whatever they want and just confirm it by saying “an anonymous source said.” I shouldn’t even call them the media because that’s not journalism. It’s simply lying. Since Twilight made Stewart famous the magazine has said she’s going out with Robert Pattinson, she’s broken up with R Patz, R Patz broke up with her, R Patz proposed to Stewart, they are living together, they are married, they split up, Stewart is pregnant with R Patz’ baby, etc. Maybe tomorrow she’ll kill someone. These magazines(especially OK) are an insult to the field of journalism. However, people buy them and that’s why I read them because they’re in the bathroom and I finish my Sports Illustrated so quickly. Other insults include that she has no style and doesn’t care how she looks. RIGHT!! Who does she have to impress? I love that about her. I don’t get up in the morning thinking what should I wear that will make me look good today? That’s just stupid. So why should women have to dress like a slut to impress me. Doesn’t anyone want a women who doesn’t have to wear makeup 24/7 to look good? I think we as guys do(at least some of us). Let her do her thing. Who cares if she doesn’t comb her hair(as long as she at least showers)? It still looks good. Who cares if she’s wearing a t-shirt and sweatpants? That’s how people in the real world dress so why is this different when it comes to Kristen Stewart? She wore Converse All-Stars to the MTV movie awards. People said she looked ridiculous but the truth is that she hurt her ankle and had to wear sneakers. Some people just have to chill. She loves to wear sneakers and loves L.A. sports teams. I’m a Laker fan and I also love to wear sneakers. A connection maybe? No not at all. That’s a stretch.

I respect her acting career as well. While she’s been in a lot of bad movies, she really gets into the character she plays whether she’s in the movie for 42 seconds or the lead role. All the actors that have worked with her respect her work ethic. She seems to pull part of herself into every role she plays, which really makes her characters seem more real. She has also played a variety of characters from Bella Swan to a person with a disability. She got her big Hollywood debut in Panic Room with Jodie Foster and Forest Whitaker. Since then she’s been in a lot of small independent films. She then played a small role in the film Into the Wild, which is an excellent movie. Finally, she hit it big as Bella Swan in Twilight in the luckiest and quickest fame ever. I think she’s great as Bella Swan but some disagree. I’m not really ready to start an argument on the acting ability of Kristen Stewart so I’m just going to leave it at that. I lied. I will say one thing that the comparison between Kristen Stewart and Emma Watson is laughable. The Harry Potter Series is at least ten times better than Twilight but to compare their acting ability is ridiculous. Once you play another character, Emma, then there can at least be a discussion. Until then you can’t be seen as the better actress. Kristen’s future looks bright at the moment but she may fall off the map once Twilight is over. Her other projects include Welcome to the Rileys where she will portray a stripper and The Runaways where she will portray Joan Jett. Wow this is turning into a novel and I still have so much more to say.

The first movie I saw her in was Jumper but I was obviously way to into watching Samuel L. Jackson to notice her 42 seconds in the movie. When I was told “that girl from Twilight plays that girl in Jumper,” I said “No shedoesn’t.” Sure enough she was in Jumper. It’s such a bad movie but her and SLJ make it worth watching. Anyway, I really liked her after I watched Twilight. I thought everything about her was so cute. She likes to just chill and play guitar. She’s also pretty active and likes to surf. I think she has played basketball at some point in her life, which would be a huge plus for me especially. She’s called herself a loner. I wouldn’t say that’s what I like about her but it just shows that she’s down the earth. Even though she’s very passionate about her work she has said she never wanted to be a big star(She actually said she doesn’t want to be Angelina Jolie, hilarious but not meant to be an insult to Jolie but it just came out that way). Because of this you could tell she’s very humble, which I respect. People say she’s hot and instead of saying “I know” she says “No I’m not.” When shown the Bella doll her comment was “she has a bigger rack than me.” When told she had a nice ass she said “No I don’t I have a flat ass.” I like that. I like when women don’t think they’re hot and strut around as if they are. She’s real!!!!

The downside to Kristen is that she smokes. Also, people say she looks high sometimes. I fear that maybe she is half the time. Despite these flaws I don’t seem to care.

She’s 19 and will be 20 April 9 about a month after my 20th birthday.

Well, that’s my list. I hope you enjoy.

See ya.

Imagine for a second Lebron James being on a special committee within the NBA. Say David Stern appointed Lebron to this committee and flew Lebron out to Barbados to hang out with himself and the head of the umpires union to decide how the NBA should run things. How happy would you be if you were a fan of the Los Angelos Lakers? Would you consider this a conflict of interest?

Well Nastia Liukin is holding a similar position as described above and apparently she feels there is nothing wrong with it. Her quote actually makes it seem like she is more concerned with herself then the way it all looks to the fans of the sport.

Here is her exact quote:

“A lot of people were skeptical and wondering if this would limit me on the Olympic side…it’s not going to mess with me being able to compete at the Worlds or Olympics.”

Liukin said that Svetlana Khorkina was also on the FIG committee when she was still competing internationally.

I am sorry but any way you slice it if Nastia is going to continue in the sport hanging out with Nellie Kim and the head of the FIG deciding ANYTHING to do with gymnastics is a conflict of interest . If Shawn Johnson was doing this the Nastia fanatical society would be up in arms

USA-gymnastics isn’t any better. They have now attached Nastia’s name to a special competition ran by them. When you add these two things to the comments made by Bruno Grandi last year about Nastia being what the sport should be about in one breath while he criticized the Chinese in another breath it reeks of something and it isn’t a pleasant smell.

Many people already felt that Nastia’s win at the Olympics was suspicious. Appointing her to represent the International Gymnastics Federation doesn’t calm those fears that the sport is a lot more fixed then you might think.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The quotes were taken from The Examiner If that link doesn’t work try the front page of the same blog
Like always, I find myself late to something. This time it is the wonderful cattiness of Aunt Joyce’s Ice Cream Stand.
While it’s not all gymnastics there–figure skating tends to hog the spotlight sometimes–dear Aunt Joyce, diva par excellence, provides me with much entertainment. Where else are you going to find artistic appreciation married to scurrilous gossip (and oh, what juicy scurrilousness it is–whoever would have thought that Nastia Liukin would have dated that figure skater Lysacek!)? I find that dear Auntie and I share the opinion that Courtney Kupets is freaking awesome, and that’s enough to keep me coming back.
So what are you waiting for? Go visit your Aunt Joyce. Dear Auntie was the one who told me Melanie Sinclair got arrested, charged with felonies and had to post bond. Now THAT was a corker, and by golly it was TRUE. There’s a lesson for you all–don’t go dating felons, and if by some chance you do end up falling for a felon, for God’s sake don’t stash his stuff in your apartment.
You say Bridget Sloan became the all-around world champion? That’s nice, but right now I’m too busy “ROTFLMAO” (as they say) at these NCAA gymnast wild children. Indeedy.
Dominique may or may not have been abused as a child. We will never know 100% for sure if the things
Dominique may or may not have been abused as a child. We will never know 100% for sure if the things she claimed happened did or did not actually happen but one thing for sure is she needs to get over it and move on.
I personally don’t believe half of what she says anymore. She is someone obsessed with the attention she got as a 14 year old Olympian and she doesn’t seem to be able to move on from that. Even now she is clamoring to perform again but she isn’t doing herself any favors by bad mouthing everything and everyone involved with the sport. Especially not Marta Karolyi.
What brought this blog on you ask? Well today Dominique was on Dr Phil where she now claim’s she was on drugs when she was 17 because of the way she was treated as a child. I am sorry I don’t buy it.
    She reminds me of that friend everyone has where if you have a cold they have Pneumonia. It’s hard to take those people seriously.
Here is an interview with Dominique where she now claim’s faith has always been a huge part of her life. Yep well God talks to me so take that Dominique.
In all seriousness this has to end. Dominique needs to grow up and take responsibility for her own life.
She didn’t make Nationals a few years back because she didn’t meet the qualifying score. Marta Karolyi did not allow her to compete at Nationals because she didn’t earn the spot. The days of special treatment for gymnasts of the past has passed unless your name is Nastia Liukin and your captain in charge wants to erase Shannon Miller’s name from the record books you aren’t getting on a National team because you once were a National Champion. Bad mouthing Marta and Bela for attention and stupid digs at blogs on IG is not going to get you what you want. It’s time to move on.
Dominique is married now with a beautiful son (and a cute daughter) she has  a College degree. She could do so much with her life if she just stopped being bitter about a sport she hasn’t competed at in 9 years.
So here we go….  (be prepared. Honest me is honest again)
The Good
  The entire book of scoring online. Tomorrow I will be downloading this:)
   Nastia Liukin NOT being allowed on the floor. She was seen throwing a hissy fit and crying when she couldn’t try and steal the girl’s attention away in the AA. Gotta love it.
Marian Dragulescu won two event finals Gold medals. His two best events (vault and floor) and I was thrilled to see him come back.  Last years Olympics must have sucked for him (with the injury) so it was nice to see him not only back but back and even better then before. I do question the execution scores he got on vault though:)
The Chinese. I am going to lump them all together because even though they aren’t perfect  they do have some beautiful gymnastics is some area’s and it was nice to see them clean up like they did a year ago (The men)
: He Kexin She rocks. She is the only BIG reason I am not calling these Worlds a total waste of time.
: Deng Li Lin, After a really rough meet in the AA she hit beam to win in a very weak final but you can only beat who competes so congrats to her
:Yang Yilin It wasn’t her best meet. It wasn’t even a good meet but it was clear she was competing injured. She looks like a different gymnast this year (she grew quite a bit) so in the future I expect her to come back and be the gymnast she is capable of being. I even think she was underscored with all her mistakes here and she and He Kexin are the only gymnasts I will say that about.
Beth Tweddle After falling on her best event in prelims (UB) she was heart broken but she made up for it in the Floor final. No one will ever accuse Beth of being artistic but that doesn’t mean there isn’t something appealing about her routine. So congrats to Beth for over coming the disappointment and winning her first Floor World title.
Lauren Mitchell She was so happy with the two silver medals she won. They weren’t gold and she even could have a case for the Gold medal on beam over  Lilin Deng but she didn’t whine. She didn’t cry age discrimination and she was the first gymnast up to hug and congratulate anyone around. It was nice to see that genuine smile on someones face and not the camera hogging phony smile that some of the American girls in the past 8 years have done.
  Koko Tsurumi AA Bronze medal (under scored on floor) and a UB silver is nothing to scoff at when you are from a Country that doesn’t really get much credit. That means you won these medals on your merit
Kohei Uchimura Everything he does
The Women’s AA winning without a fall. Great job Bridget Sloan!!!!
Marta Karolyi not injuring the whole team before they got to compete
The Judges and the execution scores for bad gymnastics. MUCH better then usual.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The Unfair…

Koko Tsurumi falling in beam finals. IMO the best routine of the competition if she had not fallen on beam.

Rebecca Bross in the AA. I am not a fan but she was more impressive at Worlds then she was at Nationals and falling and losing that way must suck even if winning an AA medal with a fall is a joke.

The 2009 UB final missing Yang Yilin and Beth Tweddle.

Bridget Sloan not making Floor finals. Her AA performance would have won silver or bronze.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Bad…..
Jonathon Horton He should have known better then to come to Worlds not giving 110% in practice. He just didn’t have enough training to compete with the best in the World. Next time he will realize this and come prepared with enough training. I expect this to leave a bad taste in his mouth and he will do really well next year.
Ksnia Smenova’s entire Worlds.
Double backs in  TUCK position in floor routines in 2009. They weren’t good enough in 1992 to make floor finals. While you are at it the double pike’s are just as bad.
PINK leotards on AMERICAN gymnasts?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The Ugly….

    Ivana Hong beating Kim Un Hyang in the beam final for the bronze medal. Both had questionable form. Both had a lot of bobbles and both started with 6.000 difficulty score but only one gymnast had a real skill in her routine and it wasn’t Ivana. I have given Ivana a lot of credit on this blog one of the few gymnasts I have given credit but this routine was not worthy of a medal.

China Not sending Jiang Yuayuan to Worlds. She couldn’t be any more injured then Yang Yilin was. Maybe if you had rested her a little this year she would have been fine for Worlds.

That annoying screeching sound they used to let the gymnasts know they had only a few second to get off the apparatus. OMG it nearly knocked me off my chair at my computer. It must have been horrible at the arena.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The sad….
    Ana Porgras is a lovely gymnast and yes she has more style then a lot of gymnasts competing at Worlds this year but if this is what passes for  “elegant” and “beautiful” then the sport is in trouble (which it is) I am not taking away ANY credit from her because she is pretty good gymnast and very young but come on people lets not overreact here. Oh and could she smile a little? This is as close as we got to a smile this week.
Jessica Gil Ortiz Falling on her head in floor finals and what a good start to her routine.
This is a must read. Couch gymnast has a blog and she was sitting neat Marta during the World Championships. Read what she over heard.
Couch Gymnast
Or about Peggy Liddick and Lauren Mitchell’s beam routine.  She kind of scoffed at the 6.5 difficulty, and then said ” 6.5?  I vould not expect a 6.5 from Peggy”
Anyone else find it hilarious that Marta is mocking Peggy Liddick for difficulty on beam? An obvious dig at Shannon Miller I find it ironic that the women that created  Kim Zmeskal’s 1992 routines has the gaul to question anyone’s difficulty on any event. Karolyi gymnasts are known for noo difficulty.
To be honest, though, I really got the feeling that Marta was totally gunning for Bross to win over Sloan.  Or perhaps it was that she expected, after Sloan’s not great qualifications.  When Sloan performed bars and vault she was kind of quiet, or just nodded and yelled no support, and then before beam, when Bridget didn’t get right up on the podium the minute before the girl before her climbed off, she was bitching at Sloan and Sharps, “Vot the hell are zey dooing?”  Whenever Bross was up, she yelled and cheered, and called out reassuring “Eeet’s alright Rebecca!” as the little girl waited her turn.  It wasn’t until the tide turned, and Bridget hit beam, that Marta started cheering and yelling for her too.  It was weird.
Yep this was obvious from the start and I didn’t have to sit next to Marta to know that Bross is getting the “Nastia” special treatment. She can fall. She can tank and she is still treated like the Queen.
Read the blog it has a lot of insight in to just how ridiculous it is to have Marta in charge of USA- Gymnastics.
Fabian has withdrawn from Worlds. The competition just lost a huge threat. It’s to bad he can’t even compete just high bar
Here is what went down at Podium training today at Worlds. The below links are the places I got the info from plus there are some highlights I have provided below from these links.
The All Around forum or what I like to call Nastia fans only
Gymnast Twitter
Sometime today or tomorrow check out gymanstike.com for a preview of the women’s AA. Right now it has a preview of the men’s AA
Bridget Sloan will not be in the 5th rotation and IMO Martha dropped the ball on this. Bridget is the NATIONAL CHAMPION and there is no debate that she has earned the right to compete in the last subdivision. All she has done all year long is win every AA she has entered and Marta not giving her this spot is a slap in the face.
Maybe Marta should take over Woga because it is pretty obvious she only cares about them right now. Rebecca Bross can be the nicest kid in the world but she did NOTHING to merit the last sub division of competing.
Now here is some highlights of the above pages.
  Yang Yilin
: had a clean floor routine but struggled on VT- landed her DTY to her knees.
:struggled with her full in dismount off bars and needed help from her coach on the last giant.
:The rest of the routine was clean, but not as fluid as last year. She kept falling on the dismount in her three attempts.
YYL- sheep jump, onodi to flic – back tuck, switch leap – wolf jump, rulfova, turn with leg at horizontal, free aerial, side somi, switch ring leap, nice ro – 2 ½.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
:Gabriela Dragoi

  n beam performed a front somi, free aerial – flic – layout, turn with leg at horizontal, side aerial, side somi, double turn, ff – ff – 2 ½ off.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Chelaru
:  handspring front tuck.  And straddled DTY, low landings.
She tumbled a full in tucked, 3/1 (crossed legs), clean triple turn, double back, double pike off. She warmed up a double layout.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Ivana Hong

: on bars, problems on the overshoot, low Tkatchev, double layout (tucked down). As first contact with the apparatus. Not a full set from her yet.

: on beam, onodi – sheep jump, ff – ff – double pike off. Troubles on the turn in the second beam set of the rotation, falling out of it. Clean gymnastics. Last beam routine, press mount, aerial – flic – layout, turn with leg at horizontal (big wobble), switch leap – back tuck, onodi – sheep jump, free cartwheel, switch ring leap, side somi (wobble), Martha claps…, split jump – wolf jump, ff – ff – double pike off (low chest).

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kayla Williams
: warming up some underrotated triple twists.
:double layout, 1 ½ through double pike (fall backwards), 3/1 (a bit underrotated), piked full in.
  n vault did a piked Rudi. It’s not layout, the second attempt looks the same but with a big step back. Huge DTY. She vaults a piked Rudi again.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Bridget SLoan

:started on beam, front tuck – flic – layout, turn with leg at horizontal. Free aerial – free cartwheel (wobbly), switch leap – back tuck, sheep jump, ro – double pike off. In her last routine, 1/1 split jump, split jump – wolf jump, front tuck – flic – layout, turn with leg at horizontal, free aerial – free cartwheel, switch leap – back tuck, sheep jump, ro – layout off.

:started floor with a 1 ½ through 3/1 (short and low), piked full in (stumble forward), front – front layout, double pike.

: timers are FTY. Good DTY, without effort.

:problems on toe-on 1/1 on HB. Full twisting double layout, a bit piked down but good. The second one was not that good though.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Deng Lilin
: timing layout Yurchenko several times. Fall on three DTYs attempted. Changes to a 1 ½ Yurchenko, but she falls
:talder to overshoot, endo, endo ½, – Tkatchev, giant 1/1 (bad and lose rhythm), Pak, full twisting double layout (piked down). Not good. Second attempt, labored kip to HS, problems on pirouettes to Jaeger, and piked down again full twisting double layout.
:front pike, flic – ff – layout two feet, free aerial – back tuck – sheep jump, slow on connections, switch leap to Rueda, split jump – wolf jump, side somi, ff – ff – double pike off. A bit wobbly today.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Kensia Semyonova

: on beam had a big wobble on the onodi – flic combo.

  n beam. Roll mount, switch leap, free aerial – flic – whip, side somi, free cartwheel, turn in attitude, sheep jump, onodi – flic (problems again), onodi – flic – layout, ro – double pike off to crash. Semyonova up one last time since she’s had problems with beam. On her last dismount, she slipped the foot off and landed to her back the double pike off.

  n floor, full in (oob), 2 ½ punch front, 1 ½ punch front, double pike off.

:Yurchenko 1 ½ tucked down at the end to land it.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Beth Tweddle
Here is also an article about Beth
  n floor, 1 ½ thourgh double Arabian (stuck), double Arabian piked (big stumble forward), had problems on it in practice too, 2 ½ -1/1.
: on bars fall on Shaposhnikova ½. Piked Ray. Also struggling with the Bi, had to stop the routine twice.
Other rumor that I read somewhere else is that Beth peeled off bars pretty badly.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

He Kexin

  n bars, her usual routine with legs apart on the Pak and a bit struggle on the dismount. Her second routine much better with only a slight problem on dismount.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sui Lui
:had solid routines on beam, only some minor wobbles on a wolf jump. Front pike to flic – layout, turn with leg at horizontal to full turn, switch ring leap, side somi, free aerial, ro – double pike off. A bit slow at connections.
  n floor, whip – 3/1 (short), 2 ½, triple turn, 1 ½ -1/1, double turn with leg at horizontal, low double pike to finish. Sui Lui warming up 2 ½ punch 1/1 after her routine. At her last attempt, she full rotates the whip 3/1.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Ana Porgaras

: free aerial – flic – layout, switch leap, ff – ff – layout to 2 feet, free cartwheel, switch leap – back tuck, ff – ff – double pike off (low landing and low chest). The layout to 2 feet is rather inconsistent.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yana Demyanchuk
  n bars toe – on 1/1 – Tkatchev – Pak. Full in dismount.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Hong Un Jong

  n vault did a DTY. Tried the amanar but fell, pretty good on the air though.

If I am un-usually bitchy during this Worlds you can blame baseball for it. Sorry Worlds but if someone win’s with a huge mistakes and bad form hell has no fury like a pissed off baseball fan. Not a mad baseball fan but a pissed off one. That is much more dangerous.

Speaking of news that really really SUCKS Fabian Hambüchen injured his ankle in podium training and might be out of worlds. When life sucks it really, really sucks.

I am not even going to comment about some made up position the FIG designed to shove Nastia Liukin down the Worlds throat. Just more proof something suspicious went on during last years Olympics. Add up the Grandi Comments, the scoring and Vodka and you get a fixed situation. It has been rumored to happen in skating (5.9 presentation scores for Tara Lipinski my ass) why not gymnastics?

I am not linking where I got this stuff from because it is too many places but here you go.

Rebecca and Ivana are having a tough time hitting their handstands for bars.

Ivana is training a DTY so maybe her AA hope is still alive.

Kayla is not used to the equipment and is having a hard time on everything especially her leaps that just aren’t any good anyway.

Bross looks the best of the American girls. One person said Bridget was having a little bit of a hard time but another place reports she looks greats so we just don’t know.

Nastia will be at Worlds trying to steal the spot light from the girls as usual.

Full twist back in Bridget’s UB dismount

Daria Zgoba looked good.

Kayla Williams is now doing her triple full into a diagonal instead of a side pass.

In this post I also feature the post that I should have posted last Sunday, the dress(es) put together with Polyvore. Inspired by the trends in London, but sticking to the basics items, here’s what I’ve come up with:

Details here. Shoes by Rupert Sanderson, Brian Atwood and boots by Alexander McQueen.

—

About London

Aye doin mait?

Well, as you can imagine, there’s a lot going on. One of my things to do was to buy THE book:

I’m so excited to have it!

I’ve also managed to see the exhibition of Garance Doré that Hauteworld wrote about. I’ve made pictures, so in case you’ve missed it, you can still see the exhibition. Click on the image to get to the gallery.

—

I’ve also been at a charity fashion show and took an awful lot of pictures, but I’m still behind with the uploading. I’ll post the link ASAP.

Have a nice Sunday, cheers

PS: The only thing I hate about this city is the huge amount of UGGs. Sorry.

(from www.nytimes.com) Who says public radio is boring? Wait Wait…Don’t Tell Me! is one

(from www.nytimes.com)

Who says public radio is boring? Wait Wait…Don’t Tell Me! is one of my favorite podcasts: a weekly game show about the news with lots of humor thrown in. Think Jeopardy! meets The Daily Show.

Each one-hour show features several games for panelists and listeners. In “Bluff the Listener”, the contestant is presented with three so-weird-they-couldn’t-possibly-be-real stories from the news, and then asked which one is true. (Hint: The craziest one is usually the answer.)

My favorite segment, “Not My Job”, brings on a celebrity like Nastia Liukin or now-President Barack Obama for a mini-interview, and then gives them a three question quiz about something they know nothing about. When they had Paula Dean, they asked her three multiple-choice questions about tofu. (She passed.)

The show has three panelists each week, including people like television personality Mo Rocca, Amy Dickinson of “Ask Amy” and Roy Blount Jr., one of the warmest and funniest people in the media. The show’s judge and scorekeeper is Carl Kasell, who possesses a voice so awesome you will understand why listeners would want to win his voice on their answering machine.

Chicago is locked in a tight race with Madrid, Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo. The International Olympic Committee will choose the 2016 host on Oct. 2.

Only new info is Mackenzie Caquotto fell off beam to place third so Ivana really must have messed up to not be top 3.

Everyone that reads this blog should boycott Kanye West. That punk doesn’t even deserve to live let alone have fans. He is a racist. He never would have done what he did at the VMA’s if Taylor wasn’t a white kid.

According to someone at IG Magazine’s message board of dictatorship someone said the following. Take it as a grain of salt. Rebecca Bross won the AA, Bridget Sloan was second and Mackenzie Caquotto was third.
Bross won bars. Ivana apparently tanked again (so long worlds) Cassie Whitcomb won the physical abilities test, won floor and finished 3rd on bars. Only two girls not invited back are Kaitlyn Clark and Alaina Johnson. (why even bother. Kind of mean to leave two girls off knowing full well you are not sending certain other girls anyway. Why even bother with pretense?

So with what we know if Cassie actually won floor ahead of anyone with her lack of name she might have a real shot at the world team as a specialist. Remember though she finished third on bars. Who do we have as a vault/beam specialist (Sam Peszek)

Sorry I have been MIA the last few days but I do have a life. So Camp is going on as we speak and so far not much noise has been reported.

There was going to be some kind of first competition on the 9th of September.

Inside Gymnastics has an article with Bridget Sloan’s coach where he tells us Bridget is one of the many gymnasts training an Amanar that isn’t ready yet.

Chellsie Memmel got a Twitter account thanks to Sam Peszek. Oh joy more comments about how they love their family and friends.

I would provide links to Chellsie’s twitter but you know. I still have that life I mentioned above.

Bridget’s article can be found at insidegymnastics.com

The British have named their world team. No surprise on who is leading the team Beth Tweddle

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Olivia Courtney, Mattie Larson and Samantha Shapiro are not at camp. Cross those names off the possible list.
The competition happened tonight at camp (Thursday) No news yet.
Once upon a time, I wanted to write a post about the many scandals that rocked the Romanian women’s gymnastics program over the years.
Alas, I have not been able to. But the Couch Gymnast has done so, with her usual brand of humor. I highly recommend it, as it doesn’t seem like I’ll be finishing mine.
Etc., blah blah, Sandra is going to the World Championships and Nastia is not. I mildly doubt that 2009 will be anything like 2005 for the USA, but we’ll see.
A few months ago I was reading the College gymnastics Message board. There was a very interesting discussion going on that
centered around UCLA Bruin Allison Taylor.
  The gist of the discussion centered on Allison receiving a full scholarship but not competing in many competitions. The rumor was that the only reason Allison was given the scholarship was to help raise the teams GPA. (grade point average) Many people found this unfair and the discussion got so heated Allison’s mother felt the need to come defend her daughters honor. Apparently Mrs Taylor doesn’t believe in free speech because she told everyone they aren’t allowed to have an opinion and told them to take this discussion to Private Messages. You can read her comments here. She posts under the name ATsMom
The full discussion can be read at the College gymnastics message board in parts. The original discussion was started here or maybe here at this point I can’t really tell.
There were points on both sides of the issue I found interesting. One person said Allison earns her free ride because she show’s up to practice every day and does what the coach tells her to do. Another person said that having someone on scholarship that you have no plan on using is a waste of a spot. It could be used on a better gymnast that actually has the right to be there. Both opinions have merit. Now for my opinion:)
I am not a big fan of Allison Taylor the gymnast. IMO her gymnastics isn’t very good and certainly was never  good enough to be getting a free ride to UCLA. You can’t fault Allison for excepting this scholarship but I can fault the school for being allowed to do this. Do you have any idea how much money it costs to send a child to UCLA? Do you have any idea how many students can’t afford to send their kids to College at all? It just isn’t fair that the regular people are paying for Allison’s free ride?
UCLA has not been the power house it used to be the last few years. Coach Val hasn’t had a real standout  recruit since Tasha Schwikert. Maybe she should focus on giving scholarships out to gymnasts that deserve it instead of trying to raise the teams GPA.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Romania has named it’s world team. Headliners include the Floor Olympic Champion Sandra Izbasa and the ever adorable man with an ego Marian Dragalescu
Women’s team:
Sandra Izbasa, 2008 European floor medalist Anamaria Tamarjan and new seniors Diana Chelaru and Ana Porgras.
Gabriela Dragoi was named team alternate.
MENS team:
Marian Dragulescu, Flavius Koczi, Berbecar Marius, Daniel Popescu, Cosmin Popescu and  Robert Stanescu. Alternates are Alin Jivan and Ovidiu Buidoso.
