Expect another little patter of Kardashian feet!

Congratulations Kourtney! Miss Kardashian has revealed the gender of her bump! She tweeted her fans yesterday saying, “It’s a girl!”.

Scott Disick and Kourtney are expecting the newborn in springtime, an eggs-tra special Easter present for their 2 year-old son, Mason!

Kourt spoke for herself and her boyfriend when she told E! online, “We feel so blessed to be having a little girl and to be able to share this new experience with Mason.” 

Kourtney and Scott have been together for 5 years and she announced the gender of her new baby girl a day before her late-father, Robert Kardashian’s Birthday. 

The news gave Kourtney the perfect opportunity to advertise a maxi-dress from the family fashion label K-DASH that her sister was wearing yesterday on QVC. She tweeted the clothing as ‘great’ for her “fellow preggo’s”.

She’s surely got a lot on her plate, with a new arrival expected, looking after her little boy, working on her fashion-line and possibly recording the 7^th season of Keeping up with the Kardashians. Let’s just hope she’ll have time to keep up with herself!

The question we are all dying to know the answer to is whether she will follow the female Kardashian letter trend and name her little princess ‘Katherine’ or ‘Kerry’?! We’re just hoping she chooses ‘Ette’, so they can have a little ‘Mason-Ette’!

Taking part in ITV2s reality TV show, The Exclusives, I met Lucie Cave, editor of Heat! Magazine. I exchanged contact details with her and kept in touch. I emailed her with a list of previous work experience and relevant skills that I have, querying about the possibility of a work placemenet at Heat! Magazine. Lucie suggested that I applied for the role of online researcher for Heatworld Online, I filled out the application form and submitted an artcle (click here to view it) about the Kardashians. I received a call a few days later from Sam Pinney, online editor of Heatworld Online. I was invted to a ‘test-day’ at Heat Towers in London. I swotted up on the latest showbiz and celeb goss, making sure that I knew my stuff.

I generated a number of ideas on the test day and wrote articles that were published on Heatworld Online.

I was wittled down to the final 2, from 5,000 applicants, however I did not  secure the job. The experience I gained from the test day was extremely rewarding and taught me key gate-keeping skills.

Browsing for journalism related jobs I noticed the opportunity to audition for a new upcoming television series searching for new journalists, the Exclusives. I filled out online applications and was invited to audition in London, I then went through a number of interiews with different TV producers of the show. I was set tasks to complete as part of a team and was shortlisted to the final 12.

As part of the shortlist I was required to pitch what I could bring to the mentors of the show; Bauer Media employees – Lucie Cave (Editor of Heat! Magazine), Channy Horton (Editor of More Magazine) and Julian Linley (Creative Director at Bauer).

The following couple of days I had to wait and see if I was contacted to be selected as part of the TV programme. There were 6 finalists selected and I had to undergo psychology tests to ensure that I was able-minded to take part in the show. I was selected as a standby in case one of the finalists could not take part. It was a great experience and I made a lot of people with media-related jobs and built up a useful list of contacts. I stayed in touch with Lucie Cave, editor of Heat! Magazine, who provided me with the opportunity of a job with Heat! Online.

Developing my inDesign skills I created a front cover for a magazine genre that didn’t currently exist.

I chose ‘Festivals’ as the topic of my magazine and invented a pilot front cover, consisting of regular features and articles.

I also developed a target readership and audience figures to back up my idea.

Jeremy Vine interviewed Ben Williamson, who I have interviewed as part of this documentary, about the issue.

Following the fatal shooting of Mark Duggan, by Metropolitan Police, riots broke out across the UK. On August 8th 2011, Birmingham City Centre was targetted by looters. I headed to the scene of the crime on August 9th to capture the aftermath, I then set up a blog to show what I saw.

Nick Grimshaw scoured the country looking for 6 stylish fashionistas from cities across the UK for TV series, T4 Style The Nation.

I was selected as 1 of the finalists for Birmingham and had a photoshoot which was really exciting!

The Two Four production was broadcast on T4 on June 18th 2011.

I worked as a researcher and social media content producer. I worked for a week at DIVA Magazine updating calendar events on divamag.co.uk, updating Twitter and Facebook accounts. As part of my work experience I interviewed the Vinyl Black Stilettos, I transcribed the script and produced a feature which was published on DIVA mag.

As part of my course we are required to upload content to BUzz Bournemouth, I have uploaded a number of articles and investigational features over my 3 years of studying. Using BUzz has helped increase my knowledge and skill of WordPress and I have developed my ability to blog at a high standard.

The summer of 2010 consisted of cheap cider, late nights / early mornings and a whole lot of awesome festivals.

Before starting university I travelled across the country to numerous festivals, including Secret Garden Party.

Amongst glitter, fancy dress and facepaints I discovered a new band; The Darwin Deez.

I decided to use their performance that I recorded on my phone as a feature for one of my first University assignments.

Having a great fashion interest, I went home and scoured the internet for upcoming trends, I noticed that Katy Perry had masked her nails with her then-husband, Russell Brand. Investigating in to nail trends I came across 3D nail art, a craze sweeping the nation in Japan.

I wrote up an article and sent it in to the editor of the magazine:

I wasn’t particularly impressed by the choice of layout for the article, however it was exciting to see my name in print for the first time.

Taking your nails to a whole new level..

Along with crazy robots and talking toilets, the Japanese have once again created a unique fashion; 3D nail art. Since the mid-90s 3D nail-art has been a huge hit with the girls in Japan… and it’s heading our way!

The US has already started adopting the quirky look. Nail-art is no has-been. All sorts of extravagant pieces are being created, even nails with mini ships stuck onto them. Many 3D nail art pieces are created on fake nails then glued to the nail, however some are worked directly.

There is ah huge range of 3D nail pieces to choose from, be in apples, cocktail glasses, lemons or even the ace of spades!

Nails art is weaving its way back into fashion in a way we’ve never seen it before – Katy Perry didn’t go for the 3D look but had pictures of fiance Russell Brand printed on her nails for the MTV VMAs… a little creepy we think.

Personally I’ve never been too keen on fake nails however I think these are really going to kick off in the UK, give it a few months and we’ll all be walking down the high street with strawberries on our fingernails!

I found this cutting in a PETA magazine, it’s good to see that celebrities, such as Jay Sean are standing up for animal rights.

The Metro featured a story this week about a dog owner who has invented an electronic system to feed his dog when he is not there.

Inventor Nat Morris has created the system which allows him to send a tweet on Twitter to feed his pet. The tweet to his dog’s account triggers a mini computer which buzzes to alert the dog, Toby, that food is on it’s way. A motor from a printer opens a trap door which releases a serving of food down a tube into Toby’s food bowl. A webcam also allows Mr Morris to see that Toby has picked up his food.

Nat Morris is said to be considering patenting his system. I’d love to be able to feed my cat Harry when I’m not here. Sometimes I am running late and he is less than impressed that he has to wait.

Hugging Harry

I have been very impressed by the behaviour of Prince Harry on his trip to Jamaica this week. The Prince pushed tradition aside to hug Jamaican Prime Minister Portia Simpson-Miller. Bob Marley’s widow, Rita, was also treated to a similar greeting.

The young generation of the royal family represent a new way of doing things and Harry has a key role to play in reshaping the monarchy for the 21st century. His relaxed approach to this state visit has to be applauded.

Thames Town

Thames Town featured on Gok Wan’s one off TV special “Made in China”. Like Gok himself, I thought it equally weird and amazing. Thames Town is the English name for a new town in Songjiang Town, China and is named after the River Thames.

The architecture both imitates and is influenced by classic English market town styles. There are cobbled streets, red telephone boxes, a fish and chip shop and even a replica of St Mary Redcliffe Church, Bristol.

A year ago I came across a series of amazing youtube videos of a dance show that wasn’t soul train but stood out because of the great music and even a better cast of unique dancers on the show.

The show is called The Scene. A television dance show that ROCKED Detroit from 1976 to 1987 on WGPR TV 62. The Scene featured many national and local guests artists as well as young dancers from the community. The show ran for a record 12 consecutive years from 1975 to 1987 and retired as one the most popular and successful shows in the history of WGPR-TV channel 62. The Scene had a strong loyal audience that included both the city and suburbs, all races and nationalities, the young and the young at heart. Nat Morris, Executive producer and host of the show, provided opportunities for local artists to launch their careers some of which went on to achieve national and international fame. The Scene paved the way for all the Detroit local entertainment TV shows that followed and had the impact on Detroit Black Television the same way that Soul Train and Don Cornelius had on a national level.

All the dancers on the show were Detroit locals. Recently Nat Morris has been trying to reunite the cast and crew of The Scene on a web page he made to help preserve and introduce to people outside of Detroit about The Scene. Synopsis:
“Plik Thai grub Bai Kao” is family drama about love, rape, forgiveness and making amends for hurtful mistakes. Plik Thai is the name of the n’ek and Bai Kao is the name of the p’ek.

Though the community thinks she is a child of a “good time” gone wrong, Plik Thai is actually a product of a rape. No one believes her mother Waarn when she tells them she was raped. People think she give herself away to some stranger. Humiliated by the community, her mother withdraws from society. After the rape and giving birth, Plik Thai’s mother isolates herself from society and never leaves home.

Though her mother is an emotional wreck, Plik Thai grows up happy and healthy because she is showered with love by her grandfather. She grows up to be a medical student.

Bai Kao is Plik Thai childhood friend. Bai Kao and Plik Thai had a very turbulent relationship growing up. Bai Kao loved to tease Plik Thai about her family situation. Though he bullied her throughout her childhood, Plik Thai secretly develops feelings for Bai Kao growing up. Bai Kao also harbors feelings for Plik Thai. When he realizes that he loves Plik Thai, he tries to make amends for all his bad deeds to win her heart.

Characters:

Grin (Chai) comes from a very respectful military family. He is seen as a charismatic and well-mannered person with a bright future. However, Grin has a dark side. He is short-tempered man. In a fit of rage, Grin rapes Waarn, a girl he secretly loves.After the rape, Grin feels very guilty but can’t bring himself to confess to the crime because he fears dishonoring his family’s name.

Gaaridta or Waarn (Vicky) is the beautiful daughter of a General and a school teacher. Waarn grows up in a loving and happy home. She had an outgoing personality and was loved dearly by her parents. Her life becomes distorted when she is raped and impregnated by Grin. After being raped, Waarn becomes withdrawn from society.Waarn hates the daughter she produced with Grin and continuously abuses her child. She also suffers from paranoia. Waarn fears being judged by society because of her situation.

Plik Thai (Dada) is five years old and is a very lively and talkative child. She is Waarn’s only child and was conceived out of rape. Plik Thai is not burden by her situation because she showered with encouragement and love from her grandfather. Plik Thai grew up with Bai Kao and over the years she develops a strong affection for him.

Plik Thai “adult” grows up to be proper young woman and a doctor in training. She lives a very constricting life of rules and regulations because she fears disappointing her grandfather. Plik Thai secretly loves Bai Kao but tries to conceal her feelings because Bai Kao has a bad reputation.

Bai Kao “kid” (Gao) is the youngest son to a high ranking officer in the Office of the Prime Ministry. He is 9 years old and Plik Thai’s closest friend. Bai Kao is seen by others as a mischievous child who acts irrationally but he is a very rational good kid who acts out of good intentions.

Bai Kao “adult”(Nattarat Morris) (24yrs old)grows up to be a lieutenant in the police force. Bai Kao is an around decent guy with a big heart. Though he still maintains his bad reputation as a hot-tempered mischievous kid, he’s actually a gentle romantic person.

When they were young, Bai Kao used to pick on Plik Thai about her family situation. As an adult he falls for Plik Thai and tries every method to win her love.

Teenat (Ploy) is a 19 year old spoiled young woman from a prominent family. She has a self-absorbed personality. Her life’s ambition is shopping. She falls in love with Bai Kao and tries to eliminate Plik Thai as a competitor.

Paapit

Paapit falls in love with Bai Kao because he provides her with emotional support through the hard times. Teenat and Paapit compete to win over Bai Kao.

Sakdena is Plik Thai’s colleague and friend. They have known each other for 2 years. His fathers owns the hospital where they both work. He’s a very well-mannered, intelligent young man around the age of 21. He loves to volunteer and care for people in need. Bai Kao enjoys making fun of Sakdena and calls him gay because he has little experience with woman. In truth, Sakdena is not gay. He secretly loves Plik Thai.
