Fin del mundo con fecha y hora 21 de diciembre a las 21:11

1,366,040 días. un numero que armoniza con el ciclo de venus y el de marte, hasta aqui nada importante (aparentemente)  pero años mas tarde un astronomo (es decir….cuando logramos poseer la teconologia suficiente para observar “”adecuadamente”" el sol) observo que los ciclos de las manchas solares (del sol) tenian aproximadamente ese numero 1,366,040 días por tanto se confirma que lo de la prediccion del fin del mundo ha de ser cierta……..(por que….olas…tormentas de calor azotaran la tierra) …….suena convicente (la explicacion cientifica sobre el 2012)

Desde el 1° de noviembre el canal Nat Geo Wild estará en América Latina, tanto en definición estándar (SD) como en alta definición (HD) distribuido por Fox Latin American Channels. Este anuncio fue oficializado a mediados de octubre en Buenos Aires, en el marco de las Jornadas de Cable 2009, organizadas conjuntamente por ATVC y CAPPSA.

En la nota de presentación se destaca que la señal “ofrece uno de los encuentros más exclusivos e íntimos con la vida salvaje. Nat Geo Wild es una puerta de acceso a los rincones más vírgenes e inexplorados del planeta. Con imágenes impresionantes y una narración cautivante acerca el misterio de las increíbles profundidades oceánicas, las más remotas cumbres, llanuras inabarcables y de lo más oculto de la selva”.

La National Geographic Society mostrará en la galería Steven Kasher de Nueva York, un conjunto de mas de 150 fotografías que estuvieron guardadas en un cuarto subterráneo de la misma National Geographic, en sus instalaciones en Washington. En ese lugar, aún se conservan mas de 11 millones de imágenes.

La muestra incluye imágenes de varios continentes y diversos géneros, incluyendo la exploración, el descubrimiento, la antropología, la aeronáutica y el retrato. La mayoría de estas impresiones nunca habían sido publicadas ni presentadas al público.

While in Barcelona we’ve learned about “Tutankhamun: the Tomb and its Treasures” exhibit at Museu Marítim. Unfortunately we didn’t make it to see it, so we were happy to find King Tut in San Francisco!

It’s Monday P.M. and I have to apologize to all my peeps who are counting on me to give them a little laugh…hahaha…I kid.

In case you were wondering, I was kind of busy. Again. My days of ever lasting freedom are drawing to an end. Had to get up like real people today to get to my first pre-class for Nursing. (Got another one tomorrow.) Starts at 9, which isn’t really early, but next week when I have to add 2 kids back into the mix and get them out for their respective school start times, it’s going to get a little hairy. I am OOP’s!! (Out Of Practice). I used to juggle complicated schedules like that chainsaw juggling guy, (nice lead-in), but now, I can barely coordinate the coffee and water  into the coffee maker! Ridiculous!

The class was good though. Getting some valuable information. I have no room for failure, basically. All my eggs are in this basket. But, it’s not SO dramatic as all that. I find it overly interesting and extremely exciting and I can’t understand, or do, yet, nine tenths of the stuff that are in these books I keep buying.

Fyi on the book thing: there are a lot. Thirteen on the list. They said there would be, but you never believe until you are looking at the shelves of them. And I mean, “shelves”. You are not required to buy ALL of them, just most of them. At the moment, I have about half. I am stacking them up in an area and will take a picture after I get the rest tomorrow. It’ll be more epic that way. I don’t want to be a teaser and just take pictures one at a time. There’s no flare in that! Besides you won’t get to appreciate the seriousness of these books or the height and weight of these books in inches (I’m going to measure them AND record how much they weigh) or the understanding that I may have to bring several, or 5 or 6, to the school with me at any one time. These suckers are HEAVY! One of the main reasons I didn’t buy them all today was the weight issue. I seriously could not have carried them all out to the car along with my binder and folder and purse and coffee cup I already had for class. Too much. Another reason is cost. Of course.

I spent $251 today. $140 last week. $120 and $50-ish for summer. And I have at least $300 tomorrow. I’m not saying it for sympathy (gotta have ‘em! ya’ keep ‘em forever! nursing library!)  or bragging (yeah right, credit card usage is not anything to brag about, especially these days), or anything. It’s just another wheel on the bigger machine rolling me to my future. It doesn’t exactly feel good to spend all this money, but it does feel like progress, if that makes any kind of sense. It also feels like mac and cheese every night for dinner and walks around the block for entertainment, but I digress.

At any rate, my birthday will be drastically  downsized this year (it’s a big-zero one). It’s gone from Vegas, for a long weekend, to “the boats” for an overnight, and now, as it fast approaches, and I am out of time and money, to a poker party at the house with myself and my Pocket Poker Hand Held Game! I can never lose any REAL money! It’s awesome. It’s all good. I can stay up all night drinking vodka, furiously pressing and re-pressing buttons (I can even turn the sound on for that real Vegas effect) then in the morning I’ll fill a bucket with some water, set a chair up next to it  and pretend I’m at the pool, burning off the “casino” from the night before! I have a good imagination. Believe. I could pull it off!

Anycheapyway, that’s all I got for now. I had a small assignment to do. Done. And prepare a joke to tell in front of the class. Done. (I’m guessing it has to do with communication—but I could be miscommunicating that.)

Yesterday was Sunday. Me and the BF did a nice 19 mile bike ride in the sweltering midday heat (92° and sun-nee!) then we went to his momma’s house for a visit. We bought her a Pierogi Magnet—real cute–and no picture!! I stink! From the Pierogi Fest, click for previous post if you care, and that was pretty much it. Went home, had dinner, watched half a movie and NatGeo, auto-tuned to Drain the Ocean! I love that kind of stuff. (Giant Crystal Cave was on right after but I missed the whole thing—watching the beginning will suck you in—you have to force yourself to turn it off and go to bed so you can get up and participate in the world week) (Tonight is Hooked! Snakehead Fish—Fishzilla’s they tagged it) (I am LOVING the parenthesis!) (Problem)(Finished the movie too. Quantum of Solace. James Bond. It was ok. Not a big Bond-movie fan, but I like Daniel Craig. He’ll always be Alex West to me.)

What I was getting to with all this, was the picture I do have, of the beautiful gladiola that the BF’s mom has grown in her flower bed this year and every year for the last few. It’s perfect and spectacular and very prettily colored. But it falls over with its own weight. So we cut it and I took its picture for the site (cause I like flowers around) and I’m going to post it after this! I got the flower with its owner and without.

O que você escolhe? Evolução por Mutação Genética e Seleção Natural ou Criação pelo Divino?

He estado haciendo esas cosas feas que hacen los adultos. Ya saben: trabajar, ver NatGeo, ir al doctor y dormir. ¿Que por qué voy tanto al doctor? Me limitaré a utilizar la tan famosa frase de no se qué médico cojito y drogadicto que ustedes aman tanto: NO ES LUPUS.

¿Que por qué veo NatGeo? ¡Porque ya volvió Taboo! Taboo es uno de mis programas favoritos en la historia de la tevé. Como su nombre lo dice, trata sobre los fenómenos sociológicos más obscuros del mundo; desde los ritos de madurez (hicieron como veinticinco mil programas al respecto) hasta las modificaciones corporales, la promiscuidad permitida y el fanatismo religioso. El ser humano está loco, come cucarachas, chasquea los dientes para atraer a las chicas y se quema bicicletas en los muslos. Que lo último no lo lea Puny, porque agarra ideas.

Además de la usual labor en la que me pagan por podar pinos canadienses, he estado haciendo cosas relacionadas con la “escribida”. Ya soy parte del dream team de 9musasmty (fundado por Roberto Torres, Brenda Meléndez y Diego de Montem… ay, no) y pronto saldrán mis primeros aportes. He concluido un curso y estoy a punto de comenzar otro. De lo mismo, porque estoy loquita. Aparte, me uno a la fila de veinte millones de perdedores que actualmente trabajan en La Novela. Ya veremos si algo sale o si la próxima vez que me vean les estaré entregando un combo McWhooper Don King.

Lo que sí actualizo cada que voy al baño es el tumblr. El tumblr es como un blog para hiperactivos o un twitter para fanáticos de las fotos y los videos. Mi cuenta la tengo siempre abierta para checar las actualizaciones de las personas a quienes sigo, junto con twitter y Facebook. Si existiera un mashup llamado twimblrbook, se ahorraría de-ma-sia-do-tiem-po en la vida. ¿O no?

Pueden seguirme en cynflr. Está en inglés porque me da la gana. Pero no es inglés de Chaucer, así que es entendible si no fuiste al Harmon Hall.

I used to struggle with my dogs’ daily walk. They got over-excited, and it was tough to calm them down enough to get leashes on them. Once we got out the door, they tugged me all over the place. Fortunately, I was watching The Dog Whisperer already. I insisted on calm, submissive behavior before putting on the leashes. I stopped walking until the tugging stopped. I walked them at the same time, over the same course, every day. I established consistency, and the dogs accepted it quickly. At the same time, they taught me which dog wanted to walk on which side, and which dog needed a pinch collar, a choke chain, or a harness. My dogs are individuals, and they had individual needs.

Many of us have heard something like, “Consistency is the hobgoblin of small minds,” and think that to be smart we have to avoid consistency. The actual quote, from Ralph Waldo Emerson, is, “A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds, adored by little statesmen and philosophers and divines.” I added the italics.

In business, we should suspect consistency. Bernie Madoff’s returns were far too consistent, and several people and monitoring groups sounded alarms before his Ponzi scheme collapsed. Senior managers in any business suspect that consistency indicates a failure to identify new opportunities or advantages. That’s definitely a foolish consistency. If you see it, your people are resting on their laurels, or manipulating the data. Dig into it!

What if you’re a leader, though? A leader must be consistent, within human limits. That does not mean you should treat everyone the same way. That discourages innovation and creativity. Rather, each person on your team must know that you are fair and objective. Your behavior toward each person must not surprise that person. I’ve led teams where some people needed weekly feedback, and others needed daily. I consistently gave each person what he (or she) needed. As a leader, you can’t take your bad day out on your people.

Business practices should be agile and alert. Leading people requires consistency.

Pic-nic na Normandia após a caça ao faisão

Neste domingo cheguei atrasado para o episódio de Londres, liguei bem no finalzinho, quando estavam terminando uma entrevista do Josimar com a belíssima Nigella Lawson. Fiquei feliz em saber que ela continua lá, super charmosa, “me esperando”… é, eu teria me derretido com ela ao meu lado, certamente…  Mas enfim, de cara já vi algo novo no programa, e que gostei: uma história a ser contada! A busca pelos hábitos gastronômicos e etílicos de Ian Flemming e James Bond pelos locais de Londres dá sem dúvida uma bela história, e mais do que isso, une os passos do programa do começo ao fim. Só assisti o final deste episódio, mas gostei e quero assistí-lo inteiro.

Mas prá minha sorte logo após o término de um epísódio eles estão reprisando o episódio anterior, e pude então ver o o Josimar sair em busca de faisão, em Paris e na Normandia (que eu não tinha visto na semana passada). O epísódio é engraçado, nada dá certo, não se acham facilmente carnes de caças nos açougues de Paris porque estão proibidas para exibição em vitrine (segundo o que entendi). Eles ‘decidem’ então ir caçar e ao sair para o campo… não acham os faisões para abate, mas a produção se sai bem e saca um faisão reserva. No final montam um pic-nic tradicional no pós-caça onde, como todo bom francês, o primeiro a se alimentar é o cachorro, e manjam embutidos com vinho. Aí viajaram de volta rumo a Paris para entregar o faisão ao chef Yves Camdeborde, do bistrô Le Comptoir Relais St. Germain, provavelmente o bistrô mais famoso da cidade por oferecer boa gastronomia a preços acessíveis. Et voilá, uma receita tradicional francesa, uma espécie de tarte au choux, com foies gras e o faisão.

Este episódio marcou uma diferença em relação ao primeiro, pois em uma única história linear – a busca ao faisão, que é comentada e explicada o tempo todo, “O Guia” passou por uma rapida checada nos açougues de Paris, pela ida à Normandia para mostrar como caçam os franceses – inclusive mostrando claramente que a maior parte da carne de caça é na verdade criada (ainda que isto possa desiludir a românticos sonhadores), e então pela cozinha do famoso bistrô em Paris e a explicação sobre o prato tradicional. Antes disso, de quebra, chegando em Rouen ele ainda pode mostrar o La Couronne, dizem o mais velho hotel da França, de 1345, onde se come um tradicional pato seguindo a preservação de uma receita tradicional pela Associação dos Pateiros… é, lá tem isso.

Menos correria, mais informação, e mais divertido. Gostei mais do programa agora, que conseguiu também ensinar algumas coisas legais. Parabéns.

tem muita gente q eh cetica a respeito da chegada do homem a Lua…
nao digo que sim nem que nao… mas tem varios sites que mostram em detalhes fotos divulgadas na epoca que sao fakes!

pois eh… coisas de sombra, relevo, etc… eu sou muito mais acreditar que eles foram sim… mas as fotos ficaram horriveis, claro!

imagina se um cara com aquela roupa tem condicao de mexer no obturador, foco, etc, duma camera vagabunda q levaram…
Aih os EUA vetaram as fotos… e tiraram novas fotos em estudio e nos desertos, para mostrar em revista, como eles sao fudidos perto dos Russos! bom, nesse mundo de silicone e photoshop, parece algo até bem justo. imagina mostrar um borrao e dizer:

A divisão internacional da National Geographic começa a viralizar um vídeo que mistura o posicionamento do canal com a chegada do homem à Lua, fato que ocorreu há exatos 40 anos. Até 20 de julho, dia em o pequeno passo para o homem e o grande passo para a humanidade aconteceu, este vídeo já estará provavelmente bombado. A sacada é simples e interessante:

Alright friends, family, readers – I need your help!  I have submitted an entry idea to National Geographic’s contest “The Green Effect.”  I am asking that you head on over (http://greeneffect.nationalgeographic.com/idea/2343/) and rate my project idea!  Thanks so much!

With $20,000 I would install an intensive greenroof system on the roof of the new Gloucester County College (Sewell, New Jersey) campus building that is set to be constructed within the coming year. As a student at GCC I have been working this year with my Environmental Science professor to implement this idea. We have given three presentations to students, faculty, and staff explaining the concept and its advantages, collected several signatures petitioning our college’s president to act, and set meetings with the Gloucester County Board of Chosen Freeholders. 

This small step would make a big difference because it would give students at GCC their first taste of green building and their first example of how our environment can be bettered through creative means. 

The construction of the greenroof system would create jobs for engineers, designers, and manufacturers, as well as those who would maintain the garden throughout each year. 

Some positive environmental effects that a greenroof would have on my campus are: 
1) a major reduction in polluted storm-water runoff 
2) the pulling of up to 5lbs/m2 of particulate matter from the air per year 
3) enormous reductions in our heating and cooling needs 
4) the ability to grow herbs and vegetables to be sold locally 
5) an interactive, outdoor classroom for science classes 

My small school needs this! I believe that initiating this idea would set a major precedent in my community regarding conscious building!

Not for the faint hearted, this video. This one falls in the creepy category.

And yet it’s fascinating!! The myriad ways for nature to work. Here’s what happens:

1. Parasitic wasp injects eggs into unsuspecting caterpillar.

2. Larvae form inside the caterpillar.

3. Larvae grow inside the caterpillar, making sure not the touch any of the vital organs, and only drawing from the caterpillar blood for its sustenance.

4. When larvae are mature and can come out and away from the caterpillar, they release a chemical that paralyzes the caterpillar. The larvae also develop jagged teeth like formations that they use to cut their way out through the skin of the caterpillar.

5. Once free of the caterpillar, larvae form cocoon around themselves for next stage of their growth.

(It’s not over yet).

6. Chemicals that were injected into caterpillar may have contained a virus – the caterpillar’s brain is affected. Instead of foraging for food, and looking after its own survival, the caterpillar uses all its energies in protecting the wasp larvae from other predators – including other parasitic wasps that can inject eggs into the vulnerable larvae!!

7. Caterpillar uses its own silk to form an extra protective layer on top of the cocoon made by the larvae, and sticks around protecting them aggressively.

8. Caterpillar dies. From hunger. Because it never foraged for food while it protected the larvae. All its brain functions had been scrambled for just this one task, until it was too weak to continue.

Creepy? Yes. Fascinating? Very.
