Kemi Seba est un identitaire noir, partisan de l’unité de la grande nation africaine, qui dénonce la lutte des classes mais croit en la lutte des races. Il ne peut qu’être d’accord avec le slogan de Terre & Peuple : “La terre des peuples africains, c’est l’Afrique. L’Europe, c’est la terre des Européens”. Une Terre, un Peuple ! Un Sol, un Sang !

Comment un jeune noir comme vous en est-il venu à défendre les thèses que vous développez ?

Mon histoire est à la fois simple et complexe.

Simple parce qu’elle s’inscrit dans le parcours collectif global des afro-descendants de la deuxième génération, nés en France, qui ont connu un certain nombre de situations difficiles. Pour une partie d’entre eux, le racisme a été plus que présent dans leur parcours. Tel a été mon cas.

Complexe, parce que j’ai eu un regard qui m’a permis d’avoir de la hauteur. En effet, même si j’habite actuellement en banlieue, je n’y suis pas né. Je suis un fils d’intellectuel africain. Mon père était un médecin qui a malheureusement mal commencé sa carrière en ouvrant un cabinet dans un coin raciste. De ce fait, alors que sa profession libérale aurait du lui permettre de structurer sa famille, dès le début de sa carrière il a connu les dettes. À la suite de quoi mes parents se sont séparés et j’ai principalement vécu avec ma mère, ce qui fait que je n’ai pas été influencé par les idées mitterrandiennes, socialistes, voire gauchistes, de mon père.

Où j’ai grandi, le racisme s’est présenté à moi d’une telle façon que ça m’a permis très tôt de comprendre qui j’étais et où je devais aller. Face au racisme, il y a deux choix possibles et il y a deux types de Noirs. Il y a ceux qui, quand ils vivent le racisme, disent : « S’il vous plait, aimez-moi, je veux être apprécié par vous, je suis un être humain comme vous. » Il y a les autres, et je faisais partie de cette seconde catégorie, qui estiment qu’il est plus que nécessaire, lorsque l’on ne vous aime pas de faire comprendre à votre interlocuteur que vous ne l’aimez pas non plus.

C’est dans cette démarche là que je me suis installé.

De plus, ma situation sociale et le racisme que j’ai vécu m’ont permis de comprendre que les rapports de classe des marxistes n’avaient rien à voir dans le parcours et le paradigme qui était le nôtre. J’ai très tôt compris que quand tu es Noir, que tu sois riche ou pauvre, de la classe moyenne ou du prolétariat, tu es avant tout Noir et que le fait d’être Noir est un ghetto à part entière.

Jusqu’à quatorze ans, j’ai toujours vécu dans des petits villages. Je vivais dans des endroits où j’étais le seul jeune Noir, or, à chaque fois qu’il y avait un regroupement de jeunes, j’étais toujours celui qui était le plus fouillé, celui qui était le plus contrôlé, celui qui était le plus bousculé par la police. Alors que tous mes potes fumaient, je ne fumais pas – je n’ai jamais touché une cigarette de ma vie -, j’avais une hygiène de vie parfaite, mais j’étais cependant celui qui était le plus contrôlé pour vérifier si je n’avais pas de shit ou d’autres substances illégales. Cela alors même que ma situation sociale, j’étais fils de médecin, aurait soit-disant du me procurer, si on respecte l’analyse en terme de classe, une certaine protection contre ces préjugés. Or ce n’était pas le cas…

Je suis arrivé en région parisienne, dans le 92, à quatorze ans. Lorsque j’ai découvert Château d’eau, Château rouge ou Châtelet, ce fut pour moi mon pèlerinage en Afrique. J’ai alors compris qu’il était nécessaire que toutes les expériences que j’avais vécues soient cristallisées, dépassées et utilisées pour défendre les intérêts de ceux qui avaient la même couleur de peau que moi.

Cela fait que quand j’entends des imbéciles nous parler de la lutte des classes et nous dire que les histoires de race n’ont aucun sens, qu’on appartient tous à la race humaine, je considère cela comme de la connerie. C’est le phénotype, et non pas la classe sociale, qui nous différencie et je l’ai vécu.

Donc, je peux dire que, par le racisme que j’ai connu, j’ai été préparé à la destiné et au travail qui est le mien actuellement. J’ai commencé à militer pour le peuple noir à 19 ans, d’abord dans un groupe d’étude de la Nation of Islam, puis j’ai volé de mes propres ailes : Parti kémite, Tribu Ka, et maintenant Mouvement des damnés de l’impérialisme.

Vous êtes parallèlement passé d’un suprématisme noir à une forme d’ethno-différentialisme et du kemitisme à l’islam. Pourriez-vous nous expliquer ce qui a motivé cette évolution aussi bien politique que religieuse ?

Pour commencer, il faut savoir que même à l’époque où je tenais un discours bien plus radical qu’aujourd’hui par rapport aux races, jamais ma démarche n’a été suprématiste. J’affirmais seulement avec fougue qu’il fallait que l’on réalise qui sont les Noirs et que chacun se retrouve à sa juste place.

Ce que je disais ce n’était pas du racisme même si je l’exprimais d’une manière si véhémente que ça a pu paraître comme du suprématisme. Disons qu’il y a eu une variation de fréquence, hier je parlais haut et aujourd’hui j’ai baissé le volume tout en disant en réalité toujours les mêmes choses.

Pour ce qui est du passage du kemitisme à l’islam, ma démarche philosophique était l’atonisme donc un monothéiste. Il est dit dans le Coran que chaque nation a reçu un messager, celui de la nation noire fut Akhénaton qui est venu appeler son peuple à se soumettre à l’unique. Je ne suis donc pas passé du kemitisme à l’islam, j’ai seulement approfondi mon monothéisme en comprenant que le message qu’avait reçu Akhénaton, c’était celui du Coran et que dans celui-ci, il y a des noms de messagers qui ont été écrits et d’autres qui ne l’ont pas été. C’est ce que j’ai compris en prison, et en ce sens là en effet je suis passé du kemitisme à l’islam, mais le fond est resté le même. J’ai prié l’Unique, et je le prie toujours aujourd’hui, mais en partant de mon propre paradigme. C’est pour cela que vous ne me verrez pas changer de nom, comme on me l’a proposé. Kemi Seba, c’est mon nom africain, c’est le nom de la matrice africaine, kemito-nubienne, qui est la mienne et je ne changerai jamais ce nom qui me donne ma fierté. Je suis un homme noir, nul ne me changera, mais je suis un homme noir soumis à l’Unique.

Depuis la création de la Tribu Ka vous êtes en butte a une répression qui ne faiblit ni ne cesse. Pourriez-vous nous la résumer et nous dire à quoi vous l’attribuez ?

Celui qui m’a probablement le plus inspiré depuis que j’ai commencé ce combat, Khalid Abdul Muhammad disait que si l’État vous attaque lorsque vous défendez votre peuple, chaque attaque que vous recevez est une médaille d’honneur. C’est ce que j’ai compris et aujourd’hui en France, le nombre de coups que nous prenons politiquement ne sont que des réponses à la propagande que nous faisons, qui correspond à des coups que nous donnons quotidiennement à l’État.

Plus nous sommes attaqués et plus cela prouve, plus cela atteste de la dangerosité pour l’État de notre message, ou du moins de sa portée en terme de propagande et de son intensité. Internet a joué un grand rôle dans cela. Donc les coups que nous prenons, je les accepte car je sais que nous en donnons beaucoup aussi, je pense même qu’on en donne plus qu’on en reçoit.

Je suis debout, comme je l’ai dit lors de mon dernier procès, moi je ne vais pas mourir ici, mais je plains ce pays d’être l’otage d’une autre nation comme tout le monde le voit aujourd’hui.

Lors des dernières élections européennes, vous avez refusé de soutenir la Liste anti-sioniste de Dieudonné. Pourquoi ? Quels sont vos points communs et de divergences avec lui ?

Ma position vis à vis de Dieudonné est simple : Dieudonné est un frère et un ami, mais Dieudonné a un projet qui n’est pas le mien et qui ne sera jamais le mien. Pour lui il n’y a pas de clivages de couleur, il dit qu’il faut aller au-delà de ça. Moi aussi je vais au delà, mais je vais au delà en les reconnaissant, c’est là différence fondamentale entre lui et moi. Certains appellent cela de l’ethno-différencialisme, mais le bon terme pourrait être plutôt de l’ethno-pluralisme ou de l’ethno-diversité, c’est ce qui rend l’humanité belle, qui lui évite le gris de l’uniformité.

Dieudonné n’est pas dans cette démarche là, il se sent français et républicain, moi pas. Ma démarche c’est d’être un panafricain anti-impérialisme et un anti-sionisme et non pas d’être anti-sioniste tout en étant un bon français, avec des français de toutes les couleurs, comme Dieudonné.

Le Mouvement des damnés de l’impérialisme comprend des branches pan-africaines, pan-arabes et européennes, pourquoi ? N’est-il pas difficile de faire cohabiter des militants dont les projets peuvent être sur certains points contradictoires ?

Le MDI, c’est la réalité de l’humanité, elle est diversifiée et on n’a pas d’autre choix. C’est pour cela que je dis que le MDI est probablement la plus belle aventure politique que j’ai connue par ce que le but du MDI a été de montrer qu’on pouvait être uni malgré nos différences. On a, j’ai envie de dire, magnifié nos différences. Il y a une branche panafricaine, une branche panarabe et une branche francophile. Ces branches là ont des différences, elles sont composées de gens qui n’étaient pas faits pour se parler au départ. Ce sont parfois les plus extrêmes que l’on a fait venir, que l’on a fait se rencontrer, et aujourd’hui il sont ensemble, dans un mouvement qui avance. Il y a pu y avoir des frictions par le passé, je ne le nie pas, mais la force du MDI c’est d’avoir transcendé ces différences pour construire quelque chose de très solide aujourd’hui, auquel se sont greffées des personnalités aussi importantes que Serge Thion ou Ginette Skandrani. C’est difficile mais on n’a pas d’autres choix aujourd’hui, le MDI c’est pour moi un laboratoire d’idées et un laboratoire d’échange visant à nous préparer à l’avenir.

Vous avez été crédité, à une période de votre combat, de liens avec divers individus et groupes marginaux de la mouvance identitaire européenne. Vous venez d’annoncer le ralliement au MDI de personnalités issues du mouvement écologiste et de l’extrême gauche. Est-ce que cela correspond à un changement de cap dans vos relations ?

Ce que j’appelle un lien c’est quand il y a un échange, un soutien qui peut être financier, logistique ou humain. Dans la droite extrême, pour parler clairement, à part avec Thomas Warlet, que j’ai rencontré et avec qui j’ai discuté, sans qu’il ait jamais été membre de mon organisation, je n’ai jamais eu un seul lien. Pourquoi ai-je eu un lien avec Thomas Warlet ? Parce qu’il nous a invité à une manifestation pour le retrait des troupes françaises d’Afghanistan et d’Afrique. Si un curé m’avait invité sur le même sujet à intervenir dans son église, j’y serai allé, ce n’est pas cela qui aurait fait de moi un catholique.

En réalité, les rapports que j’ai pu avoir avec l’extrême droite, c’est de la fantasmagorie de journaliste, du flanc, du vent.

Je m’inscris pour ma part non pas dans un schéma droite/gauche mais dans une dynamique qui est celle du nationalisme noir, de ce qu’on appelle aussi le nationalisme afro-diasporique qui suppose que tout militant de la cause noire de la diaspora soit toujours à la fois dans une démarche panafricaine et d’unité avec nos semblables d’ethnie noire.

Quant aux liens que j’ai avec des gens d’extrême gauche comme Serge Thion et Ginette Skandrani, ils sont réels. Je n’ai jamais été contre le fait de parler avec l’extrême gauche, mais encore faut-il savoir avec quelle extrême gauche on parle.

Il y a une extrême gauche paternaliste, des gens qui nous disent « on est tiers-mondiste, on est avec vous », mais en réalité la seule chose qu’ils veulent c’est de piloter votre combat et si on commence à parler de négritude ils nous disent, « les histoires de race tu oublies, tu mets cela de côté, c’est la classe qui prédomine, arrête avec tes histoires de noir lis Frantz Fanon n’écoute pas Farrakhan». Moi, quand j’entends ces gens là c’est des coups de latte que j’ai envie de leur mettre. Cette extrême gauche besanceniste ou antifasciste joue le rôle des tirailleurs du lobby en criant « Attention, attention, antisémitisme !» à tout bout de champ. Ces gens là sont mes ennemis, je le dis clairement au même titre que les impérialistes sionistes.

D’un autre côté, il y a une extrême gauche comme celle de Ginette Skandrani, qui a été cofondatrice des Verts, ou celle de Serge Thion, qui est quelqu’un qui a marché avec Amilcar Cabral, qui a été avec le FLN et l’ANC, qui a rencontré les Blacks Panthers. Ce sont des gens dont je me sens proche car c’est une extrême gauche vraiment anti-colonialiste et non une extrême gauche qui ne joue qu’un seul rôle, celui des matons de la rue et de la banlieue. Des matons qui ne veulent pas que le débat s’ethnicise, parce que le jour où le débat va s’ethniciser, et bien chaque ethnie va demander des comptes à l’ethnie qui est au dessus de toutes, qui nous domine, qui nous étouffe et qui nous asphyxie. Moi je suis de ceux qui veulent ethniciser le débat et je ne m’en cache pas. Et ceux qui sont contre cette ethnicisation sont des gens qui participent du mondialisme tel qu’il est aujourd’hui, qui veulent gommer nos différences.

On vous a attribué des liens avec divers pays progressistes d’Afrique et l’intention de conseiller à certains de vos militants d’y faire retour. Est-ce exact ?

Pour être clair sur ce point, oui il y a des liens. En Côte d’Ivoire, il y a des gens dans l’entourage du président Laurent Gbagbo – qui soit dit en passant me fait plus rêver qu’Obama -, chez les patriotes qui nous regardent avec sympathie, qui considèrent que l’on secoue le cocotier et que l’on dérange les intérêts de l’impérialisme. Il y a des gens au Sénégal aussi, dans les proches du défunt cheikh Anta Diop qui voient ce que nous faisons, qui voient notre évolution et qui aujourd’hui, malgré la démonisation, nous soutiennent. Un certain nombre des nôtres ont été en Afrique, pour faire des repérages et pour préparer le terrain, que ce soit en Côte d’Ivoire, au Burkina Fasso, au Sénégal ou au Ghana.

Je le dis à titre personnel, et aussi à titre collectif, mon avenir est, à court terme, sur le continent africain. Je n’y réclame pas un poste de premier plan mais je veux apporter une vision afro-diasporique des choses, humblement et donner une vision panoramique qui peut permettre parfois de transcender les différences tribales qui existent dans un certain nombre de pays d’Afrique. Je ne pense pas seulement à moi, c’est une démarche dans laquelle nous nous installons collectivement. Je me vois, avec les miens, avec mon équipe, si Dieu le permet, très prochainement sur le continent africain avec des responsabilités.

Plus précisément envisagez-vous à terme une campagne comme celle du Back to Africa de Marcus Garvey ?

Je le dis toujours, Marcus Garvey c’est mon grand père, mon père étant soit Khalid Abdul Muhammad soit le ministre Farrakhan. Le meilleur exemple de campagne qui puisse être effectué c’est le départ de soi même. Je pense que si je réussis, si je par sur le continent et qu’avec ceux qui sont autour de moi, on réussit à mener un travail fort, le back to Africa n’aura même pas besoin d’être proclamé. Tous ceux qui sont ici et qui nous apprécient déjà se diront : ils ont réussi à effectuer ce qu’ils avaient programmé.

Ce que je veux apporter à l’Afrique, c’est mon modèle, c’est de constituer dans les pays où nous avons des sollicitation, une démarche qui soit proche de celle des patriotes en Côte d’Ivoire, pour soutenir le Président du pays où l’on sera. C’est ma démarche. Je pense que le slogan préférable à back to Africa est go to Africa mais avec des responsabilités et non pas pour y passer des vacances !

On dit qu’un certain nombre de rappeurs, et non des moindres, s’inspireraient de votre combat. Est-ce exact ?

Dès mes 14 ans, quand je suis arrivé en région parisienne, je me sui initié au rap. C’est devenu ma musique, celle qui me fait vibrer, celle qui m’a permis de rêver, celle qui m’a donné de la fierté.

Le rap est, pour nous, un bon baromètre de notre audience dans les quartiers. Il y a de très nombreux rappeurs qui apprécient ce que l’on fait. Il y en a beaucoup qui viennent nous voir discrètement, malgré la démonisation et malgré les manœuvres des tafioles antifascistes. D’autres vont plus loin et font leur « Kemi Seba outing ». Ils disent publiquement qu’ils apprécient ce que l’on représente sans forcément qu’ils soient d’accord sur tout. Là je peux citer Disiz la Peste, Mac Tyer, Mystic, Mac Kregor.

Dans dix ans, comment – et où – vous imaginez-vous ?

Dans 10 ans, j’ose espérer que j’aurais des responsabilités politiques dans un pays africain, des responsabilité auprès de la jeunesse, dans le panafricanisme ou dans quoi que ce soit de ce style qui puisse me permettre de reviriliser des frères qui ont perdu leur dignité parce qu’ils ont été émasculés par l’impérialisme occidental.

Si dans dix ans vous me voyez, ici en France, à la tête d’un cercle de réflexion, franchement jetez moi des cacahouètes parce que je l’aurai mérité et je dirai « Merci bwana ».

These words begin the hit song of the legendary Marvin Gaye, as he asked the infamous question “What’s going on?” That question seems so appropriate for today’s realities. One must concede that Marvin Gaye was indeed ahead of his time.  The news is filled with stories that promote fear, suspicion, and tell of the worst aspects of human behavior.  So we are forced to ask ourselves nearly 40 years after its release “What’s going on?”

Nidal Hasan is identified as the shooter in the tragic shootings at Fort Hood, Texas; he supposedly has performed these heinous acts out of love for God and hatred for America.  What’s going on?  No interpretation of Islam, no concoction of any religious fervor put together can be used as a justification for mental illness. Mr. Nidal appears to be another in a long list of mental health professionals, he being an Army Physiatrist, who himself was in need of help.  What were the warning signs?  Were they ignored?  That some would use his profession of faith against him is of no more value than to use his profession as reasoning.  Islam, as a way of life, does not promote the taking of innocent life!

We won’t take the time to highlight the many evils that have been promoted in the name of the misunderstanding of God’s way and will, but the list goes on and on. From slavery, to the inquisition, on through to Timothy McVeigh, and others, misplaced aggression hidden under the banner of religious fervor has us where we are.

I am reminded of the movie “Religious,” in which comedian Bill Mayer challenges individuals based on their religious teachings to prove their particular system of belief. While taking a very irreligious approach the movie shows that most people, who make professions of faith, are not necessarily knowledgeable about the most in-depth aspects of their personal faith traditions. The Prophet Muhammad is reported to have said, “One learned man is harder on the wicked, than a thousand ignorant worshippers.” Sadly, most seem to be ignorant worshippers. 

Ignorance is defined in some cases as simply not knowing. Dare I say that with regard to most religions, particularly Islam, most just don’t know.  Ignorance is also referred to as to refrain from noticing, or recognizing. Have we not yet noticed that this level of intolerance is not the particular domain of any one group? The Bible’s teachings of Jesus tell us that before we condemn the speck in our brother’s eyes, we must first deal with the beam in our own.  Once again, the Bible’s teaching lets us know that there is “none good,” no not one.

This brings us to the case of John Allen Muhammad, another individual who professed to be of a particular faith tradition, yet he went totally against what he was being taught. Killing innocent men and women, misleading his young accomplice and (allegedly) plotting to kill his ex-wife? He was not taught that in the Mosque. Those in the Nation of Islam are known as hardworking, and committed to community, and any deviation is not the work of the guidance received, but, the misunderstanding of those followers who, like so many lose our way from time to time along life’s road.  Muslims anywhere, who are really trying to live the Quran, would not and cannot embrace such behavior, anymore than members of the Christian right embrace the rants of those who openly call for the killing of abortion doctors.

Lets us take time to inventory our world and ask ourselves, what’s going on?  For we are reminded of the words of Bob Marley, “that when the rain falls, it won’t fall on one man’s house.”

Black people…is it important that we vote?
I wrote something a few years back about why I think that it was important for us to vote. Of course with the 2008 Presidential Election, we all rallied behind then candidate Barack Obama and voted like I always knew we could vote. It was a beautiful sight. I woke up early and my mother and I stood in a long line. Looking at the man Black folk in that line, I knew it was gonna be a historic day.
But now, I just sit back and reflect. Amazingly, a year has changed my mind somewhat. I have a short term view and a long term view on voting, which is made more complex due to the historical implications surrounding the idea of voting. In the short term, I recognize that voting is important and essential regarding how we are represented, particularly on the local level. Long term, I am not sure how much voting actually does because there are powers that are controlling policies and institutions that we are all unaware of. So I am a bit torn.
What makes this all worse is the historical implications; how Black people fought and died for the right to participate in voting. I think that is what really pisses me of; the fact that Black folk fought hard to vote yet there are back door deals and powers that control how our country is ran and how the world is governed. It is straight depressing. You know, one of the main reasons that I voted for Obama was because he was the best qualified Black man for the job. I mean, White men since our country’s inception had had numerous chances to mess up the country, let’s give the Black man a chance to do the same. But I look at the way things have been happening and the decisions being made and all that, and I really believe that there really wouldn’t be too much difference in McCain and Obama regarding certain issues. Rush Limbaugh is running around mad calling for Obama’s head because he believes that Obama will end capitalism as we know it, but Obama is a Capitalist’s Capitalist. He and McCain would have signed that stimulus bill, he and McCain would have continued to talk tough while sliding the banks billions, the “war” on terror would still be a failure with our troops getting injured or hurt – Obama in Afghanistan or McCain in Iraq; essentially, both would do things the same, with a few differences. Both would have associations with private groups, such as the Bilderberg group. I mean, it is tough to believe when you see things through opened eyes.
And if you believe in prophecy, it’s hard to discount it. I, of course, believe in Christian prophecy. Nevertheless, it is a scary notion on what is to come. With all of that being said, looking at these Election Day races, particularly in New Jersey for Governor, I ask myself, does it really make a difference? I feel like our two party system is a joke. A politician would argue with me. At the end of the day, I believe that the system is a good one. What are screwed up are the people within the system. But our people fought hard and even died to vote…for screwed up politicians? I don’t think that they died for that. I don’t think that they died for the “democratic process” to be a mask for a greater structure of democracy that we are unaware of and have no participation in. Voting does make a difference and can change outcomes. I agree with that. But we cannot be blinded by the idea that vote changes everything. One thing that made Black America great is because we took matters into our own hands. We are a resourceful people. We know how to work within limitations and do more with less. If rent is due and you cannot convince the landlord to give an extension, you had a rent party. If you were denied care from the government, the Church stepped in and gave you the care and resources that you needed. We, as a people, must get back to that…organizing in a way that allows us to be independent and interdependent.
I am not Islamic, but I second Brother Malcolm’s assertion that the Nation of Islam had the potential to be the most powerful organization for Blacks due to its resourcefulness and interdependence. But greed and jealously minimized its importance within African America and in society. Greed and jealousy is an issue within any organization…and it is an issue within our nation’s political and economic structure. So what do we do? We organize anyhow and we vote anyhow. There are forces that are beyond our control, yet what matters more is how we treat one another. Voting is important, but the power of voting is not stronger than the power of a people who do for themselves. All voting can do is allow them either the opportunity to do more or re-evaluate to learn how to do more with less. We concentrate too much on having the option to do rather than focusing on the actual doing. Let’s reason to DO more. Don’t just vote today, take an active role in your community. Mentor a kid. Read to some children. Organize to provide kids a place to play ball. That work does more than casting a ballot ever could.
Voting sets the parameters of your work… but it is your hands actually do the work.

Pop singer: ‘We are here to evolve as 1 family, and we can’t be separate anymore’

British recording artist Sting says President Obama could be the answer to the world’s problems – the divine answer.

“In many ways, he’s sent from God, because the world’s a mess,” he said in a new interview with the Associated Press.

The comments from The Police’s lead singer, whose real name is Gordon Sumner, are just the latest in a long series of statements suggesting Obama’s connection to the supernatural.

WND previously reported when an artist who planned to unveil a portrait of Obama in a Christ-like pose with a crown of thorns upon his brow canceled the event due to “overwhelming public outrage.”

Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan also was clear in a nearly religious adoration of Obama. As WND reported, Farrakhan declared last year that when Obama talks, “the Messiah is absolutely speaking.”

Addressing a large crowd behind a podium with a Nation of Islam Saviours’ Day 2008 sign, Farrakhan proclaimed, “You are the instruments that God is going to use to bring about universal change, and that is why Barack has captured the youth. WND also previously reported a website called “Is Barack Obama the Messiah?” capturing the wave of euphoria that followed the Democratic senator’s remarkable rise.

The site was topped by an Obama quote strategically ripped from a Jan. 7 speech at Dartmouth College just before the New Hampshire Primary in which he told students, “A light will shine through that window, a beam of light will come down upon you, you will experience an epiphany, and you will suddenly realize that you must go to the polls and vote” for Obama.

Sting said in the AP interview he has spent time with Obama and described the president as “very genuine, very present, clearly supersmart, and exactly what we need in the world.

“I can’t think of anyone better qualified because of his background, his education, particularly in regard to Islam,” he told the news agency.

The 58-year-old said, “My hope is that we can start talking about real issues and not caring about whether God cares about your hemline or your color. We are here to evolve as one family, and we can’t be separate anymore.”

Snoop Dogg, quand le gangsta rap devient du rap business…

Aujourd’hui, quand on parle de West Coast, de Gangsta rap, de G-Funk, on ne peut s’empêcher de penser à Snoop Dogg, sans doute son ambassadeur le plus médiatisé et populaire.

Adulé dans les quatres coins du monde, cet artiste a su imposer son propre style: flow posé et chaloupé, sur des instrus douces et mélodieuses. Ce n’est pas un euphémisme de dire que personne ne fait du rap comme Snoop Dogg, et Snoop Dogg ne fait du rap comme personne.

Pourtant, rien ne le destinait à une telle carrière. Le jeune Coldozar Clavin Broadus Jr, de son vrai nom, est né il y a 38 ans en Californie. Il passe toute son enfance à Long Beach, près de Los Angeles. Bercé par la rue, il devient un membre actif des Crips, un des deux gangs les plus éminents et meutriers de Los Angeles. C’est d’ailleurs au sein des Crips qu’il fait la connaissance de Nate Dogg et de Warren G, avec qui il va rapidement se tourner vers le rap en formant le groupe 213. Warren G étant le beau-frère du célèbre producteur Dr Dre, celui-ci fait écouter une maquette du groupe. Le producteur tombe sous le chamre de l’originalité de Snoop Dogg et décide de le produire. Signé sur Death Row, Dr Dre lance la carrière de Snoop en l’invitant à collaborer sur son album “The Cronic”, sorti en 1992.

S’en suivra une impressionnante carrière médiatique, 9 albums solos et des disques d’or à gogo.

Il a fait les beaux jours de Death Row, où il cotoie Dr Dre, 2Pac, Kurupt, Daz Dilinger. Dans les années 1990, il fut même l’un des ambassadeurs les plus en vue du gangsta rap. A la mort de son ami 2Pac, il quitte le label Death Row, change son nom de “Snoop Doggy Dogg” (le nom de scène de ses débuts) en “Snoop Dogg” (le pseudo Snoop Doggy Dogg étant la propriété de Death Row), et signe chez No Limit Records (le label de Matser P, sur lequel il sort l’excellent album Tha Last Meal).

Au cours des années 2000, il va également se faire produire par Pharell Williams des Neptunes (Paid Tha Cost To Be The Boss, et Rythm & Gangsta).

Produit par les producteurs les plus en vue du moment, les albums de Snoop Dogg font souvent figure de “blockbuster” (grosse production) dans le paysage du rap américain.

Alors que ses morceaux sont souvent une propagande au mode de vie hédoniste inhérent au gangsta rap (richesse, alcool, drogue, et prostitution), Snoop Dogg a été récemment au centre d’une polémique concernant son appartenance à la “Nation of Islam”, un groupe politico-religieux qui compte déjà parmi ses membres Stevie Wonder, Akon, T Pain, Busta Rhymes et Laureen Hill. Converti à l’Islam, père d’une petite fille, Snoop semble avoir trouvé équilibre et sérennité. Dans ce contexte, on est en droit de se demander si son prochain album, prévu pour 2009 sera aussi “sexe, drogue & rock’n'roll” que ces prestations précédentes?…

Since most people I know can’t seem to get over the fallacy of a sexual binary, the idea of Malcolm having been anything other than a pure blood and guts heterosexual is going to have people succumbing to cardiac arrest.

I was on my way to work this morning, walking through our bourgious seeking ghetto, glancing into TK MAX, complelty impressed by the elevators and design.  We’re a lively little bunch this borough didn’t have too much time to observe, but saw some school kids, or rather heard some school kids.  They’ve kinda got a habit of getting heard before seen – its a human ambulance siren.  People just shrug and make way, and like moses they part the sea – with a lot of animosty thrown in.

Just remembered I had to send an email to NOI UK.  That’s Nation of Islam.  Earlier this week, I stumbled upon (whilst staring at the TK MAX elevators) a dude from NOI.

I’ll post this another time.

Anyhows, still going through a political phase.

Work was cool.  I’m soo affable in person, but net talk can go a bit askew sometimes.  I guess words kick start the imagination – tons – what a crazy dart to throw to get it right.  My imagination is like some bizzare thing – irrational.

Anyhows I forgot my point.  Whatever.  Partner called me a teenage brain yesterday.  Like he thinks that matters.  I’ll do part two, when I remember. <the irony is killing me>

Wayne Madson and others have claimed that swine flu strains have been engineered in two universities in the US and Canada, and says that they’ve been deliberately designed to resist vaccines.  The Baxter Pharmaceutical conspiracy of intentional malfeasance to deliver the virus into the population continues.  Then there are those missing vials from Ft. Detrick, don’t forget about infected pigs and birds, and oh yeah…. and people are still being infected and dying.

“Never have I witnessed such sincere hospitality and the overwhelming spirit of true brotherhood as is practiced by people of all colors and races here in this Ancient Holy Land…..”, so began the letter written by El-Hajj Malik El-Shabbaz, formerly Malcolm X, on his Hajj trip in 1964.

He continued, “…There were tens of thousands of pilgrims, from all over the world. They were of all colors, from blue-eyed blonds to black-skinned Africans. But we were all participating in the same ritual, displaying a spirit of unity and brotherhood that my experiences in America had led me to believe never could exist between the white and the non-white. America needs to understand Islam, because this is the one religion that erases from its society the race problem…”

Malcolm X’s life had been a series of changes. He was born Malcolm Little on May 19, 1925. After his father’s violent murder in 1931, Malcolm’s family was left poor and destitute. They were forced to accept support from the state Welfare people, who kept their pressure on them, especially on Malcolm’s mother, until she suffered a complete breakdown and was institutionalized. The family was torn apart, with children placed in separate households.

Malcolm attended school until the eighth grade. A white teacher’s remark concerning his desire to become a lawyer (“A lawyer – that’s no realistic goal for a nigger.”) hurt him deeply and he became disillusioned with school.

Malcolm left Lansing and moved to live with his half-sister, Ella, in Boston. There he began to explore the streets and quickly caught on the slang and ways of the street. After getting a job on the train, he visited Harlem and became enchanted. He moved there in 1942, at the age of seventeen.

Malcolm became a hustler, dope peddler, and gambler and was nicknamed “Detroit Red.” After becoming involved in a fight with another hustler, he escaped to New York, where he became involved in armed robbery. He was addicted to drugs, which he used as an escape from the worries and strains of the street. In February 1946, he was caught and charged with burglary and sentenced to ten years in prison.

Prison changed Malcolm greatly. He started to reform. A fellow inmate called “Bimbi” made a positive impression on Malcolm and urged him to take prison correspondence courses and use the library. Malcolm, who had lost all of his eighth-grade education on the streets, began to study seriously and his grammar and penmanship improved. He also started to learn Latin.

In 1948, Malcolm’s siblings introduced him to the Nation of Islam and urged him to accept its teachings. Though at first hostile to religion, Malcolm became more interested when his brother Reginald sent a letter saying, “Malcolm, don’t eat any more pork, and don’t smoke cigarettes. I’ll show you how to get out of prison.” Malcolm was interested and gave abstinence a try. His actions made him feel proud, especially when he startled his fellow convicts with his refusal to eat pork.

Malcolm began to learn the teachings of the Nation of Islam. Original man was black, who built great empires and civilizations, while the “devil white man”, was created by a mad scientist, called Mr. Yacub, and had pillaged, murdered, and exploited every race of man not white. This white man had “whitened” history and brainwashed the black man so much so that he did not know his own name, language, culture, religion, or ancestry. Christianity was the white man’s religion, used to subjugate the blacks by promising them heaven after death, while enjoying his heaven right here on earth.

According to the Nation of Islam, a man named Wallace D. Fard had appeared on Earth and was “God in person.” He appointed Elijah Muhammad as his messenger to the “lost-found Nation of Islam here in this wilderness of North America.”

Malcolm was fascinated. He began to read history and read about the horrors that the white race perpetrated on members of other races all over the world throughout history and how this race has always been haughty and proud.

After his release from prison, Malcolm became an active member of the Nation of Islam. He would go out on the streets, “fishing” for more converts. His efforts and dedication pleased Elijah Muhammad and he was appointed minister of Temple Seven in New York City in June 1954.

Publicity came slowly at first and then rapidly increased. In 1957, a police brutality event and its reaction brought the Nation of Islam to the headlines. Then in 1959, the Nation was catapulted to mainstream news. The television program “The Hate that Hate Produced” was aired, producing sudden interest in the Nation of Islam. Newspapers began to run series of stories on the Nation. Magazines increased their coverage. Radio and television people soon began to request Malcolm X to defend the Nation of Islam in panel discussions and debates. Malcolm X’s publicity increased. But, publicity caused jealousy and by 1961, Malcolm began to hear negative remarks from members of the Nation of Islam regarding him.

Rumors concerning Elijah’s extreme immorality surfaced. Elijah and his family considered Malcolm as a man dangerous to Elijah’s authority and began to plot to get rid of him.

On November 22, 1963, John F. Kennedy was assassinated. Malcolm commented on it as a case of “chickens coming home to roost.” He was immediately silenced and isolated for ninety days. The machinery for eliminating him was set into place. The event was made to look like Malcolm had rebelled. He started receiving death threats.

Malcolm, though shocked at his expulsion from an organization that he had worked so hard and long to build and strengthen and whose leader he nearly worshiped, kept his determination to continue the struggle for the black man.

In 1964, Malcolm, along with other brothers who broke with the Nation of Islam, founded Muslim Mosque Inc. He decided that this organization was to open to all blacks, regardless of faith. On April 13, 1964, Malcolm left for Hajj, the pilgrimage to Makkah under the name of Malik El-Shabazz. It was at the Hajj when Malcolm was to undergo another radical change.

Until now, Malcolm could be considered a black racist. He attacked whites based on the color of their skin and stated that their race was the devil race, which could never do any good. Now, at the greatest religious gathering on the face of this Earth, he realized that color does not determine character, but deeds do.

He experienced great hospitality and brotherhood in the Holy Land from people of all colors, races, and nationalities. The idea that white man is the devil began to fade as he saw the color-blindness that Islam brought to society. His ideas changed as he saw that the cure to racism was neither white-supremacy nor black-supremacy, but Islam, which united people of all origins under the belief in the Oneness of God and made them cease to measure each other based on the color of the skin.

He himself stated, “I am not a racist. I am against every form of racism and segregation, every form of discrimination. I believe in human beings, and that all human beings should be respected as such, regardless of their color.”

Malcolm saw that the solution to the racial problem in America lay in the mutual cooperation of both sincere whites and blacks in educating and eliminating racism from their peoples. He called for blacks to reevaluate themselves, to get rid of the “Negro” image, to consider themselves not as Americans but as Africans in America, and to unite in removing the vices rampant in their communities as well as take control of the economies in their communities so the white man does not continue to get rich off the poor black man.

He was against passive nonviolence, saying that it accomplished nothing and was a method of delaying the solution. He did not advocate violence, but said that active self defense was necessary for blacks to attain human rights in America.

Malcolm was faced with many enemies. The Nation of Islam made no secret of its animosity towards him, whom they considered an apostate. White supremacists who were threatened by his calls for awakening in the black communities also kept their pressure on him. By the end of 1964, he realized that his end was close. He considered every day “another borrowed day.”

In January 1965, harassment was reaching its peak. Members of the Nation of Islam kept following Malcolm wherever he went, trying to find an opportunity to kill him. In the early morning of February 14, his house was firebombed. Though his family escaped bodily harm, the home was severely damaged.

The next weekend, on February 21, at the age of 39, El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz was gunned down as he began to speak at the Audobon Ballroom. He was buried in Ferncliff Cemetery, Hartsdale on February 27, 1965. For millions of people around the world, both black and white, he was a hero who had fought for the rights of his people and was martyred in the process.

Louis Farrakhan is telling people that the H1N1 flu vaccine is designed to kill people.

Do people actually believe this man?

Minister Louis Farrakhan was in Memphis, TN telling his followers not to become complacent by Barack Obama’s election and to work to repair communities. Farrakhan said, “This can pacify you and lull you to sleep in a dangerous time, making you think that we live in a post-racial America—when the opposite is true.” His speech was billed as a plan to focus on reducing crime. Farrakhan said, “He’s the American president, not the black president.” Adding, “You may not be pleased with everything he’s saying and doing, but you have to understand that he’s been voted in to take care of the affairs of a nation, and not yours and mine particularly.”

This is a different story Farrakhan was preaching when he addressed his followers February 24, 2008. Obama talks “the Messiah is absolutely speaking.” Farrakhan said of Obama, “You are the instruments that God is going to use to bring about universal change, and that is why Barack has captured the youth. And he has involved young people in a political process that they didn’t care anything about. That’s a sign. When the Messiah  speaks, the youth will hear, and the Messiah is absolutely speaking.” Farrakhan said, “Barack Obama to me, is a herald of the Messiah. Barack Obama is like the trumpet that alerts you something new, something better is on the way.” Farrakhan pointed out that the man Nation of Islam followers refer to as “the Savior,” Fard Muhammad, had a black father and a white mother, just as Obama did. Farrakhan suggested he would keep a low profile in the campaign, despite his enthusiasm for Obama. Farrakhan went on to point out that when religious scholars talk about Christ or the Islamic Mahdi, they never talk in racial terms – again, pointing to Obama’s mixed racial background. Farrakhan has said. “This young man is the hope of the entire world that America will change and be made better.”

March 1, 2009 Farrakhan was at it again. Nation of Islam Leader Farrakhan Pushes ‘Obama Energy’ For three hours Farrakhan praised now President where Farrakhan used the election as a launching point for celebration, intellectual discussion and a call to action. Farrakhan said, “There’s an energy among our people that has never been seen before, never produced by any man or organization before.” Even when Obama distanced himself from Farrakhan, his assisting minister Ishmael Muhammad said, “He did not want to say anything the media could use to hurt his (Obama’s) chances to become the president.” Farrakhan told followers to be prepared to make sacrifices as Obama begins work on the faltering economy. Farrakhan and the Nation of Islam have vigorously tried to cozy up to Obama for almost three years and Obama has kept his distance.

Now what has changed Farrakhan’s mind about Obama? Obama’s administration has constantly released statements condemning some of Farrakhan’s past statements. Obama has done the same with Rev. Jeremiah Wright and his controversy. Now you see why Farrakhan is saying, don’t be pacified by Obama’s election? He’s Mad! There was one positive moment at the convention, Former Memphis Mayor Willie Herenton took advantage of the event to gain support for his Democratic primary challenge to U.S. Rep. Steve Cohen, a white congressman who has represented the mostly black House district for two terms. Great move Herenton!

RONNIE FLENAUGH: The Confrontation with Huey P. Newton

In late 1970, Ronnie Flenaugh, The brother of Jedi Knight Assassin, Sebron Flenaugh, Jr., blew into Merritt Junior College, Grove Street Campus, like a storm. In a packed assembly, Flenaugh boldly taunted Huey P. Newton and the Black Panther Party for Self Defense in the college auditorium. The California Appellate Court had just overturned Huey’s conviction for murder on August 5, 1970. He had been released on August 13. After his release, Huey went on a college speaking tour.

Among Huey’s crew and bodyguards were “Big” Robert Heard, Robert Bay and Jimmy Carr. Carr was the cousin of FBI informer Louis Tackwood. Heard was at least 6’ 6” and over three hundred pounds. He was known as an enforcer. Carr was a well respected higher up in the Black Guerilla Family, and associate to George Jackson in prison. Both Heard and Carr would meet violent deaths within years of Huey’s release from prison.  

Ronnie’s taunting resulted into a physical alternation with Huey.[1] Elaine Brown, former Chairman of the BPP, recalled the incident between Ronnie and Huey. 

“During Huey’s speechmaking stint, in a college auditorium a Black Muslim in the audience kept interrupting Huey’s already-difficult exercise with taunts. He said something to the effect that the party was not providing a proper image for the black man and needed to embrace Allah. Huey had ignored the man for the entire speech; but two seconds after he had finished, he jumped off the stage and walked through the audience to confront the man directly. “Is Allah your god?” he asked the Muslim, inches away from his face. The audience was stunned into immobility. “That right, Brother!” “Well, Man is my god- and I hope your god will save your ass from the wrath of my god.” Within a breath, Huey was all over the Muslim, pummeling him up and down the auditorium aisle.” [2]

Who was Ronnie? Where did he come from? He wasn’t a seasoned Black Muslim, Nationalist or prison or college activist. Ronnie appeared be under the control of William (Billy) E. Mapp, the so-called leader of a Black Muslim splinter group, “Al Constran”. This was according to Alameda County Mafia District Attorney D. Lowell Jensen. The word on the street was that Ronnie had just been released from prison.

He just seemed to be so out of place for Ronnie or anyone else to confront Huey P. Newton and his crew on his home turf. Ronnie was born on February 12, 1947 in San Francisco, or Richmond, California. He had grown up in Oakland, Richmond and Berkeley. Ronnie’s last occupation was student at Merritt Junior College. The cover story provided by authorities that appeared in local newspapers was that Ronnie was from Chicago. The Chicago reference was to Elijah Muhammad’s Nation of Islam, and the “New Mecca.” That detail of the story was deliberate misinformation. Ronnie had been a local all his life. 

Ronnie’s behavior on campus just prior to the incident with Huey was awfully strange and bizarre. I was on campus that day and saw Ronnie just minutes before the incident. Ronnie was in group of about four to five members of Al Constran. They were an awfully strange and bizarre sight. They all dressed in long black capes and wore black turbans. A member of the group, Paul Cook, wore nothing but a vest of chains under his cape. Among the group, I recognized Billy Mapp. My older sisters knew him personally, and one of them seemed to have cherished a graduation picture of him that I had often seen at home. 

Leading the group as they passed through the campus courtyard to the auditorium was Ronnie. I was absolutely stunned by his peculiar appearance and behavior. Ronnie was extremely muscular and well built. He appeared to slowly sway and bend from side to side as if he was about to fall, but continued to regain his balance and walk forward. Ronnie’s eyes were empty and emotionless with a fixed and blank stare as if he was in a trance. It looked as if Billy had him on a string like a large sleep walking pit-bull. 

Years later, I ran into one of the brothers that I was with that afternoon on campus that I hadn’t talked to for years. Out of the blue, he asked me if I remembered Ronnie. Of course, I did. He had been just as startled by what he saw as I had been. I never forgot what I saw that afternoon. He told me that he had known Paul Cook a member of Al Constan around campus and that he was always secretive about his activities. He told me that I needed to find out what happened to Ronnie. I really didn’t think about it at the time, but how did his brother that I hadn’t spoke to for years know that I had been involved in research around the murder of Paul Cook. 

I called him back on several occasions to fill him in about the details of my research, and try in a round-a-bout manner fish out of him exactly how he knew about my research. After numerous messages, he never returned my calls. I suspect that some entity that he worked with had briefed him on my research. Out of this group of brothers that I knew on campus at that time, some very odd and peculiar faith overcame them, but he was untouched and prospered. He was a Korean War veteran that had an odd psychological wound that rendered him uncontrollably savagely violent when triggered. Somebody or something had taken good care of him over the years.     

RONNIE FLENAUGH: Pre selected, Kidnapped, Drugged & Driven Insane

The answer to the enigma of Ronnie Flenaugh lies in PROJECT PAPERCLIP, the CIA’s MK-ULTRA, GEMSTONE PROGRAM, military intelligence experimental mind control programs, the FBI’s GHETTO INFORMANT, and COINTELPRO (counterintelligence) programs.

Ronnie was one of an army of individuals released from prisons and mental institutions programmed by the government to seek, attack, discredit, and destroy Black Nationalist and their movements in the Bay Area, and create a climate of fear and hatred of Black Nationalist. Who and what entity conscripted and programmed Ronnie against his will?

In late 1967, Ronnie had been officially declared to be insane. Dr. Sandritter, M.D. Superintendent and Medical Director of Agnews State Hospital admitted Ronnie to the mental hospital in San Jose. Why Angews in San Jose? 

Prior to his commitment a Agnews, Ronnie had been found to be insane by two doctors on September 7, 1967, Malcolm A. Sowers, M.D. 1197 A street, Room 7, Hayward, CA, and Isidore Weiss, M.D. 4855 Pacific Avenue, Stockton, CA. 

Dr. Sowers reported during an interview with Flenaugh at Alameda County Santa Rita Jail, “during the early part of our interview he talked somewhat coherently and showed a fair good command of language. He stated that he had the feeling that they were trying to drive him insane. When asked who he meant, he said that he had had a “funny feeling” in the Berkeley jail as though someone had been poisoning him. He said that his body had aches and pains and his imagination ran wild.”

Both Dr. Sowers and Weiss observed that Ronnie’s body was ripped with muscles without a “once of fat.” Ronnie had spent a great deal of time weight training. Dr. Sowers asked if he had taken speed (Methedrine), he answered yes.  Methedrine was relatively new drug known on the street as “hot shot”, because it was shot directly in the veins. 

In 1967, Methedrine (STP) was a new drug on the street. During that year, Augustus Ousley Stanley III was passing out Methedrine pills free to hippies in Haight-Ashbury section of San Francisco. STP was known to the military intelligence as BZ. BZ was a chemical warfare agent developed by the U.S. military. [3] Stanley was known as the LSD king. Stanley distributed a form of LSD called “Orange Sunshine”. Charles Manson and his group used and distributed “Orange Sunshine”. This form of LSD was different. It was associated with causes of episodes of violence. Orange Sunshine was also generally associated with Robert Stark in Los Angeles. Stark had worked for the CIA. [4]

Also in 1967, Mendocino State Hospital was conducting experimental “attack therapy” sessions with Methedrine abusers. The Alcohol and Drug Abuse Screening Unit at San Francisco General Hospital, and the Haight-Ashbury Medical Clinic channeled meth abusers to the experimental program at Mendocino. Mendocino State Hospital was under the control of the Peoples Temple and Jim Jones. [5]  Former OSS agent and CIA MK-ULTRA contractor, Dr. Gregory Bateson, had set up the Haight-Ashbury Medical Free Clinic.

Also in 1967, Leo Hollister of the Veterans Administration Hospital in Palo Alto was experimenting with STP and another chemical to enhance it under a grant from the National Institute of Mental Health.[6]  The veteran’s hospital was an UK-ULTRA site also ran by Dr. Bateson.   

Dr. Sowers asked if he had taken acid (LSD), Ronnie smiled secretively but did not answer. Dr. Sowers asked if he was on a trip right now, he clammed up. Dr. Sowers observed that it appeared that he was getting some kind of hallucinogenic drug while in Santa Rita. Ronnie was on a trip. Dr. Sowers went no to say that speed causes rather prolonged paranoid states, which could very well persist for sometime after he was placed in prison, but Methedrine was not a hallucinogenic per se. LSD was a hallucinogenic. LSD came from a CIA laboratory, and BZ was developed out of a military intelligence quest for a non-personal chemical warfare agent.

Ronnie said that he had been picked up by the Berkeley Police Department riding in a black & white Porsche. He had been arrested for auto theft. Dr. Sowers found that Ronnie was definitely psychotic at present and therefore unable to know the difference between right and wrong, at present unable to participate in his defense. His diagnosis was schizophrenic reaction paranoid type cause unknown.

Dr. Weiss provided the court with a second opinion of whether or not Ronnie was insane. Dr. Weiss recorded, “he says he is going to try to stop the people from exploring the universe. They are going to do this by psychological warfare. The whole population will blow up if they have their way. They keep messing with me…I told them I wanted to get on a space ship. They are coming to pick me up.”

Including Ronnie’s statement regarding a psychological warfare project, he said, “I wouldn’t die, I wouldn’t join their religious group. Also, I wouldn’t commit treason, that’s why I’m in jail.” Ronnie told the doctor that people have been putting drugs in his veins and into his food. Ronnie wouldn’t voluntarily join some group that was inducting him into some type of mission. Ronnie resisted his recruiters and programmers.

Dr. Weiss observed a laceration on his left wrist. They considered that evidence of an attempted suicide. Both doctors reported to Judge Redmond C. Staats that they found Ronnie to be insane.

On August 30, 1967, Judge Staats declared Ronnie insane. Judge Staats was interesting. Judge Staats was a “good old boy” linked to the Republican Party, and the powerful political cabals of Southern Pacific. Judge Staats committed former mayor John Houlihan to the California Men’s Medical Facility at Vacaville after he was railroaded out of the mayor’s office. Houlihan got in the way of the Knowland-Kaiser-Bethtel Cabal’s plans for the multi-million dollar Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) District project. Houlihan as Mayor of the City of Oakland publicly opposed the building of BART, and vowed to stop it. 

Ronnie was certain that someone drugged him in the Berkeley City Jail. Ronnie was 20 years old at the time of his commitment. Ronnie’s reference to “psychological warfare” at the time was rather unusual. According to doctors, it was generally understood that Ronnie had been in and out of jail. He told the psychiatrists that he dropped out of school at the 10^th grade, but he had done some work at a junior college.

Where did Ronnie obtain information in reference to “psychological warfare” and a conspiracy by a group to use psychological warfare against the people of the United States? Ronnie also made reference to the fact that he didn’t want to commit treason.

The scope of treasonous activity is broad. Sedition, subversive activities and treason involves crimes against the sovereignty of the nation and states; stemming from the advocacy of the overthrow of the constitutional government; and threats to the internal security of the United States. Treason is the only crime defined in the United States Constitution. The Constitution declares that treason against the United States shall consist only of levying war against them, or adhering to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort. Treason is generally defined as a breach of allegiance to a government committed by a person who owes allegiance to it, and is the greatness crime known to law. [7]

Why would Ronnie with a 10th grade education be referring to “psychological warfare” and “treason” unless he had been exposed to and subjected to a covert military-intelligence CIA experimental mind control program? 

One of the more interesting statements made by Ronnie to doctors were “I wouldn’t die. I wouldn’t join their religious group.” One religious group that was involved in prison-military-CIA mind control programs that had setup roots in the Mendocino County in 1965 was the Peoples Temple.[8]

RONNIE FLENAUGH: Agnews State Mental Hospital & The Programmers

What Ronnie didn’t know was what was waiting for him at Agnews State Hospital. Agnews was in Santa Clara County along the way to the notorious Mk-ULTRA institution, Stanford University. The current occupant of the now closed Agnews Hospital is Palo Alto’s Sun Microsystems, Inc.

In 1968, it was on the record and official; Richard Price and Dr. Julian Silverman of Esalen Institute of Big Sur, CA moved into Agnews State Hospital to conduct an experimental program. Charles Manson spent the day at Esalen exactly 3 days prior to the Sharon Tate Murders in Los Angeles.  The cover story was that Manson was playing his guitar for Esalen’s clients. However, I believe during that time Manson was programmed with neuro-linquistist triggers and keys to release sleeper cells that carried out the murders, particularly sleeper Charles “Tex” Watson under the influence of mind control, mescaline, psilocybin, THC, STP, and Orange sunshine. 

In 1962, Esalen was founded by Stanford grads Pat Murphy and Richard Price. Esalen was started in close collaboration with Dr. Gregory Bateson, and Dr. Aldous Huxley. Price majored in psychology at Stanford, and had been connected with U.S. Air Force intelligence.

Both Price and Dr. Silverman were close associates of Dr. Gregory Bateson. Dr. Bateson and Dr. Louis Joylon West were apostils of Aldous Huxley. Huxley was the godfather of LSD, and Esalen Institute. Esalen’s first brochure was based on a series of 1961 lectures of Aldous Huxley. Huxley also encouraged Dr. West to combine LSD with his “spook” hypnosis experiments. In 1981, Dr. Bateson died at Big Sur, home to Esalen.

Dr. Silverman joined Esalen directly out of NIMH in 1965 right after the CIA initiated the highly classified Project Pandora. Project Pandora involved Russia’s covert experimental use of extremely low electromagnetic frequencies (ELF) to bombard the U.S. Embassy in Russia. 

The NIMH was a conduit for CIA funding of covert mind control experiments, and was involved in funding research directly involved in Project Pandora. Dr. Silverman had been a research psychologist at the National Institute of Mental Health, a notorious MK-ULTRA institution. While at NIMH, Silverman authored over 50 papers on subjects ranging from perceptual style to schizophrenia and shamanism.      

 The congressional National Mental Health Act created the NIMH in 1946. It was borne of the combined efforts of Robert H. Felix (head of the military’s Division of Mental Hygiene during World War II), General Lewis Hershey (director of the Selective Service System), and chief psychiatrists of the Army and the Navy. Dr. Felix was a 33^rd mason that was directly responsible for inhuman torture, drugging and brainwashing of Black men at the drug addiction facility in Lexington, Kentucky. 

Richard Price of Esalen was particularly associated with Dr. Gregory Bateson, and Stanford Research Institute’s (SRI) highly classified military-CIA remote viewing project as a remote reviewer.

SRI’s remote viewers Pat Price and Ingo Swan were brought in on the Patty Hearst kidnapping case by the Berkeley Police Department. It was Price that identified Colston Westbrook’s friend, Willie (the wolf) Wolfe as a conspirator in the kidnapping. Price was a former Air Force intelligence officer. Price had also been a former police chief of either Santa Monica or Beverly Hills. He came up dead in 1973 in Las Vegas casino hotel allegedly by food poisoning. Price’s death may have something to do with the assassination of Bobby Baker, Watergate, and the White House Gemstone Project. Baker was a Beverly Hills drug dealer, and an insider of the Howard Hughes affair.

Richard Price died in 1984 following a freak and suspicious accident while rock climbing at Big Sur. During that time, Esalen Institute was heavily involved in exchanging information and visits with Russian parapsychology, and Tesla technology scientist.

Who was Berkeley’s mayor during the Hearst kidnapping? Warren Widener, another former Air Force intelligence officer. Dr. West was also positively associated with the U.S. Air Force. He was a former U.S. Air Force Major. Colston Westbrook was another former U.S. Air Force Intelligence Officer. Both Westbrook and Dr. West worked on Korean-Russian-Chinese brainwashing and deception research projects after the Korean War. Master Hypnotist, Dr. William Bryan Jennings, and cult expert Dr. Margaret Singer of Cal, also worked with the Air Force intelligence on the Korean-Russian brainwashing research projects.

Dr. West was the CIA consultant to Dr. James A. Hamilton and his covert mind control projects at Vacaville Prison, particularly, the Black Cultural Association (BCA). The BCA was a CIA mind control research program. BCA was run under banner of UC Berkeley for cover. Colston Westbrook was UC Berkeley’s outside community coordinator for the BCA-CIA project at Vacaville. 

Dr. West had also been in charge of medical oversight of SRI’s highly classified remote viewing program, PROJECT SCANGATE. Dr. West was also working at SRI conducting “his own experimental studies of the phenomenology (study of the events or occurrences) of dissociate states, or multiple personalities. [9]  Dr. West’s association with the small knot of men such as Dr. Bateson, Dr. Hamilton, Westbrook, Price, Esalen and SRI was too close to be coincidental.

RONNIE FLENAUGH: Dr. Valerie Hunt & Mind Machines

There was another much stronger Agnew Hospital project connection to Dr. West, and CIA, Dr. Valerie V. Hunt of UCLA. She worked with Price and Dr. Silverman on the Agnews Hospital Project. Dr. Hunt was Dr. West’s associate at UCLA. She was also a NASA scientist. Dr. Hunt’s work was directly related to the objectives of the Pandora Project. 

Dr. Hunt was a 51-year old world renowned neurophysiologist. She graduated from Rockefeller’s Columbia University in New York with a PhD. in psychology. She was also a professor of Kinesiology (the study of the biological and mechanical aspects of muscular movement in man). She was also a scientist in basic and applied research in behavior biology. [10]

Dr. Hunt’s expertise is in human electromagnetic or bioelectric fields. Most of Dr. Hunt’s research in electromagnetic fields remains hidden. Dr. Hunt’s background information and associations are rather sketchy for a person of her stature in the scientific community. Dr. Hunt’s web site stated that she authored at least 25 public scientific articles. In 1977, she and Dr. Edward E. Massey co-authored a couple of unclassified articles regarding Rolfing.

Dr. Hunt is also currently an advisor to ELF (Extremely Low Frequencies) Laboratories. ELF labs tout heavily the research of Nicholas Tesla, Dr. Robert O. Becker, and Eldon Byrd. Byrd ran the Marine Corps Non-lethal Electromagnetic Weapons project from 1980 to 1983, and conducted most of his research at the Armed Forces Radiatiobiology Research Institute in Bethesda, Maryland looking at electrical activity in the brain and how to influence it.

Byrd conducted experiments on animals and humans-including himself-to see if brain waves would “lock on” with waves hitting the brain from the outside. His experiments used VLF (very low frequency) electromagnetic radiation. He found he would induce the brain to release behavior-regulating chemicals. “We could put animals into a stupor,” hitting them with these frequencies, he said. These fields were extremely week. They were undetectable,” Byrd added. “The effects were nonlethal and reversible. You could disable a person temporarily,” Byrd hypothesized. “It [would be] like a stun gun.”

U.S. News reported that: Byrd never tested any of his hardware in the field, and his program, scheduled for four years, apparently was closed down after two years, he says. “The work was really outstanding,” he grumbles. “We would have had a weapon in one year.” Byrd says he was told his work would be unclassified, “unless it works.” Because it worked, he suspects that the program “went black.” Other scientists tell similar tale of research on electromagnetic radiation turning top secret once successful results were achieved.” [11]

Dr. Robert O. Becker experimented in the early 1960’s with ELF by putting the signal on top of a DC current to carry the ELF signal. In other words, ELF rode like the passenger on a bus, maintaining its own integrity but being carried to its specific destination. Dr. Becker tested this concept by using ELF, 1-10 Hertz (cycles or pulses per second) signal on humans resulting in an increased loss of consciousness among test subjects. The weak ELF alone had no effect, and DC current had a significantly reduced effect without the combination. Above 10 Hertz with DC current, the effect increasingly declined until it was no better than with DC current alone. What was demonstrated was that ELF, those frequencies, which most effect human brain functions, could be manipulated externally with profound results. [12] 

Ronnie’s brother, Sebron, appeared at the San Diego Naval Medical Center, part of the National Naval Medical Center, after a four or five year disappearance in Alaska. Coincidence?  Dr. William Teller (Father of the Atomic Bomb) of Stanford was also very interested in the human electromagnetic field, and Alaska. 

Dr. Hunt’s research was the first of its kind to show that low frequency electromagnetic (ELF) radiation had an effect on hormonal levels and other physiological systems of the body. She was the first person to electronically record energy fields using adapted electromyography (the production and interpretation of tracing which represents the electric currents produced by contraction of muscles, as those involved in eye movements) to record small amounts of very high frequency energy from the “charkas” (body energy centers identified in Eastern philosophies). [13]

Dr. Hunt had done extensive work measuring the strengthening effects of ELF waves upon the auric field, the energy field surrounding the body. Dr. Hunt did most of her research while a professor at UCLA. 

As a result of Dr. Hunt’s human electromagnetic research studies, researchers began to use ELF radiation in a variety of successful ways. Some introduced low sound frequencies directly into the body with their voices, the client’s voice, or by machine.

Some of the secret experiments that were carried out at the Men’s Medical Facility at Vacaville during this time period involved mind control-ELF radiation.[14]

The Price-Silverman-Hunt experiments at Angews State Mental Hospital involved much more than “Rolfing” somatic discipline. Was the research related to Dr. David Ewen Cameron’s infamous mind control technique involving depatterning, and “psychic driving”?

Dr. Cameron used tape-recorded messages to imbed suggestions to a laboratory induced comatose or drugged patient. Dr. Felix’s sponsored experiments in Lexington involved driving messages to comatose Black addicts. Some of Dr. Felix’s patients had been drugged on LSD for 77 days straight and driven with messages to “kill”. I suspect that Dr. Hunt was imbedding suggestions into drugged patients by an electromagnet or sound wave machinery and devices (Psychotronics).

During a presentation to the U.S. Psychotronics Association Annual Symposium at Bergamo Center in Ohio in 1988, Dr. Hunt presented what was described as “epochal work” showing chaos and hidden order in recorded ELF electromagnetic radiation from human bodies. Dr. Hunt split received EM signals emitting from the human body into two identical channels, a time-delayed one channel by a very slight amount, then mixed the non-delayed and delayed signals and bombarded the body with the ELF electromagnetic sound waves. The bottom line was Dr. Hunt induced “chaos” human confusion, disorientation with ELF electromagnetic waves.[15]

Dr. Hunt also reportedly constructed an experimental room emitting human ELF electromagnetic sound waves that she had recorded. She changed the recorded ELF polarization and created “chaos”. The human subject inside the room lost orientation; he or she would not touch a finger to nose or maintain balance to walk.

Psychotronics are basically described as “mind machines.” Dr. Ross Abey was another of Drs. West and Hunt associates at UCLA. Dr. Abey was also doing research work with Psychotronics. On June 3, 1983, it was reported that Dr. Abey was investigating a Soviet Psychotronic device called LIDA. LIDA was designed to bombard human brains with radio waves in the 40-MHZ region. Dr. Abey was also investigating the work of A.S. Davydov of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences, who discovered how the blood-brain barrier can be penetrated by low-frequency radio waves so that brain cells are affected. [16]

Dr. Abey tested LIDA on a cat, and in two or three minutes the cat was sitting quietly, almost as though transfixed, and uninterested in its surroundings. The animal remained uninterested in its surroundings for some 20 to 30 minutes after the machine was turned off. [17]

Dr. Abey’s laboratory is located in Linda Loma, CA. From 1984 to 1986, Sebron Flenaugh was located in Pt. Linda Loma doing some janitorial work with a firm, he called, Maintenance Teck Service.

The Soviet Union had a great deal of interest in Psychotronics. However, keep in mind that Dr. Hunt was a pioneer and leader in the field. During the 70’s, the Soviet KGB developed a Psychotronic Influences System (PIS) that was used to turn people into programmable “human weapons.” Soldiers fighting in the Afghan conflict were trained using the system which employed a combination of high frequency radio waves and hypnosis. Commands were activated by code words or ciphers. The purpose of PIS was to render regular soldiers and members of Special Forces incapable of feeling sympathy. [18]

The CIA and Defense Department officials were deeply involved in the field of bioelectronics (machines involved in the generation of electrical currents of living tissues and organs), and biocybernetics (life-the science of communication in living and mechanical systems, especially with regard to the utilization of feedback). [19] 

The CIA had, through the intermediary of the Defense Department’s Advanced Research Projects Agency and Dr. Jack Verona, The Raven, been involved in funding research into the fundamental working of the human brain at UCLA. [20]

During the 50’s, the agency experimented in a microwave “amnesia bean” that would destroy memory neurons at a California research institute connected to the UC system. [21]

During the 1960’s, the CIA and the military were directly involved in refining research experiments involving low frequency sound waves carrying voice information, and UCLA was involved in some aspects of that research. [22]

The CIA and military were covertly or openly financing research and experiments involving human ELF electromagnetic sound waves, Psychotronics. The CIA and military was actively involved in behavior modification research and experiments at UCLA.   They were very much interested in Dr. Hunt’s research and experiments involving human ELF electromagnetic sound waves. Is it too speculative to conclude that the CIA and the military were indirectly involved in the Price-Silverman-Hunt experiments at Angews State Mental Hospital 

The National Institute of Mental Health funded their experiment. NIMH was a MK-ULTRA institution. The NIMH was a conduit for CIA funding of the Pandora Project, and covert mind control experiments.

Was Ronnie an early experiment subject of one of Dr. Hunt’s secret and revolutionary Psychotronics?  Look at the results. Ronnie and maybe hundreds of other innocent Black military enlistees, ex-convicts and mental patients were turned into zombie killers? Ronnie went go on to join an “assassin” Manchurian Candidate contrived fraction of Black Muslims, “Al Constran”. Al Constran was an agent provocateur, counter intelligent front that sought to discredit and neutralize the Black Nationalist Movement, the objectives of the CIA’s CHAOS Program, and the FBI’s CoIntel Program.  Al Constran was a division of “The Death Angels”.

In 1971, Jim Jones was working with Vitali V. Rozynoko on a behavior modification project at Mendocino State Mental Hospital under a NIMH grant.[23] Ronnie in the first instance refused to join a religious group whose objective was to control the population by a campaign of psychological warfare.  That religious group had to have been the Peoples Temple.

In 1967, Jones and the Peoples Temple were carrying on experimental programs at Mendocino State Hospital with Methedrine (STP) with heroin addicts from Oakland and San Francisco. [24] The experiments were headed by a social worker, Wayne Wilson. Wilson also carried on experiments with LSD.

In an article entitled “People Control Blueprint” by Carol Denton published in May 1972 issue, Vol.3, No. 12 of the National Educator exposed “A Top Secret” paper from the Center for the Study of Democratic Institutions. The paper provided a plan for total control of the people of the United States through behavior modification techniques of B.F. Skinner. The paper was prepared on December 31, 1971. [25]

A conference was held at the Center January 17 through 19, 1972, at which a discussion on “The Social and Philosophical Implications of Behavior Modification” was held. The discussion paper was prepared by Vitali Rozynko, Kenneth Swift, Joseph Swift, and Larney J. Boggs. They were the senior staff members of the Operant Behavior Modification Project located at Mendocino State Hospital. [26]

On page 5, they wrote, “we are presently concerned with social change and discontent.” They believed that an Orwellian world was more likely under presently developing society than under the kind of rigorous controls of a society envisioned by Skinner. On page 6, they discussed law and order, stating that the population is now more apt to support government repression than previously, in response to their own fears. [27] 

They added that “with the rising population, depletion of natural resources, and increase of pollution, repressive measures may have to be used to guarantee survival of our specie. These measures may take the form of forced sterilization, greatly restricted uses of energy and limits on population movement and living location.” They asserted that operant conditioning (sensitivity training) and other behavior techniques can be used to control the population through positive reinforcement.”[28]

After Ronnie refused to join the Peoples Temple and be programmed as one of their soldiers, he was forced into Al Constran a faction of the infamous “Zebra” killers and became AL RASHID. Al Constran was a virtual reality contrived Black Muslim group of believers. For all practical purposes, Al Constran and AL RASHID were created by U.S. military intelligence controllers, and the Alameda County Mafia.

BILLY MAPP: Pre selected, Kidnapped, Drugged & Driven Insane

According to D. Lowell Jensen, Alameda County Mafia D.A., Al Constran was led by William (Billy) Edward Mapp. Mapp was born on January 6, 1943 in New York. He was first arrested and committed to California Youth Authority (CYA) at the age of 13 and spent his youth in and outside of CYA on parole until 1961. At 17, he was convicted of attempted robbery and returned to CYA. In 1965, he was convicted of conspiracy and placed on probation. 

Mapp had his roots in West Oakland. He had attended McClymonds High School. Mapp was intelligent, handsome, and rather short, thin Black man. He appeared to have had Ronnie on a string like a pit bull. Mapp had accompanied Ronnie to Merritt to induce an altercation with Huey and the Black Panther Party. Mapp also had no known prior activist history. 

In May of 1969, Rev. William E. Mapp, Minister of the Life Universal Church of San Jose or Fresno, was raising money for a Black business (ABC Distribution) on 98^th and Edes in Oakland. He was giving out a box of pepper for a donation to raise funds. He was standing in front of, or adjacent to Ziegler’s Bar B-Q. Mapp had lived on welfare for the past 5 years. He was living at 926 7^th Street in Oakland with his wife and three kids. 

For whatever reasons, OPD officers Thomas Otto, and J. Dowd arrested Mapp for solicitation without a license. Solicitation without a license was no more than an infraction under the Oakland municipal code.  Mapp was placed in a police unit and taken to an isolated parking lot of a local hotel where he was beaten. 

Mapp was charged with two felony counts of assault and battery on the police officers. On May 20, 1969, “Good Olde Boy” Judge Staats enters the case. Judge Staats denied Mapp’s release, and sets bail at $6000. Judge Leonard Dieden then revokes his bail and orders him into custody when Mapp arrived late for court due to the injuries he sustained while being beaten by the OPD. Dieden was described to a low life political hack that sent so people to San Quentin that part to the prison was named “Dieden’s Row. [29] Mapp was held at Alameda County Santa Rita Jail pending trial. Judge Dieden set bail at $20,000. Mapp would languish being driven insane for almost 6 months pending a jury trial in November 1969. 

While in jail, Mapp made a motion to the court to recues Judge Dieden from the case for prejudice. In that motion written in longhand, he said that he was, “Most of all ordained by the King of Kings and Lord of Lords to preach his words through out the land and I want freedom, Justice and Equality.” He ended, “Allah uh Arbar”.

Was Mapp being primed and selection for forcible induction into “Al Constran” in Santa Rita Jail? Was it random that Mapp was arrested, beaten and jailed by OPD for such a minor infraction? Someone in a governmental agency that Mapp had prior extended with knew that he was susceptible to hypnotism and programmable. Just as in the case of Ronnie Flenuagh, Mapp was pre selected, drugged and programmed against his will into the contrived fictional group Al Constran, and the “Death Angels” by Squad 19, and the Alameda County Mafia.

On November 5, 1969, William E. Mapp was acquitted of two charges of assault and battery on police officers, but the damage had already been done. He had been beaten, humiliated, and isolated beyond his mental and physical capacity. He had been driven insane. Mapp was right for induction and programming to kill as “Ali Allm Alalah“.  (To be continued)

Malcolm X’s blazing, legendary autobiography, completed shortly before his assassination in 1965, depicts a remarkable life: a child born into rage and despair, who turned to street-hustling and cocaine in the Harlem ghetto, followed by prison, where he converted to the Black Muslims and honed the energy and brilliance that made him one of the most important political figures of his time - and an icon in ours. It also charts the spiritual journey that took him beyond militancy, and led to his murder, in a powerful story of transformation, redemption and betrayal.

My impression of Malcolm X before reading his autobiography was that he represented the extremist side of the black civil rights movement in 1960’s America – like a ‘dark’ Dr Martin Luther King. Some would see this appraisal as correct; I see it as having elements of truth, but also being  a far too simplistic portrait of a man whose life was anything but.

I get nervous when writing a review about an autobiography – this was a real person after all, who would have been far more complex than any book can describe. However, I think that there is merit in discussing the presentation, historical precedence and opinions expressed in ’The Autobiography’. After all, if not for discussion, then for what purpose would a memoir serve?

First off, the introduction by Paul Gilroy has some good points on ‘The Autobiography’, but the tone is almost laughably ill suited to the rest of the book. It is written in the manner of a University paper – a way of communicating Malcolm X was especially critical of. It is peppered with terms I became familiar with while learning about essays during high school, such as ‘mechanisms’, ‘captured in the prism of Malcolm’s life’, ‘this curriculum was the culmination of an education’ (basically, the art of using big, intelligent sounding words in order to prop up your claims. I find that the true masters of essay, such as George Orwell, usually write in the plainest manner. The reader shouldn’t feel like they are digesting a thesis.) Please skip this introduction until you have finished the book.

Alex Haley’s foreword is a story within itself and quite long (67 pages). It was interesting to read an outsider’s impression of Malcolm X. The foreword gives ’The Autobiography’ some form of grounding and embellishes on additional details (the 75% story was touching). He finishes his foreword with a lengthy description of Malcolm X’s assassination, gathered from eye witness and police reports.

Autobiographies are always an excercise of ego, point of view and heavy bias (even if the narrator claims differently) and it is wise for the reader to keep this in mind. Despite this prior warning, the first thing that struck me about the actual autobiography was the biting wit, charisma and native intelligence of Malcolm X. His words leap off the page and are arresting in their decisive delivery.  He recreates the different periods of his life with clarity, seeming honesty and frankness. More than just recounting the events, he seems to capture his past thoughts and emotions precisely.

The first half of ‘The Autobiography’ describes his tumultuous childhood and teenage years as a drug dealer. Any temptation to gloss over his horrid actions and state of mind during his Harlem ghetto days seemed to have been stifled. The culture of  1940’s Harlem is described in great detail, from the zoot suits, conks, slang and  music scene to the tricks of the underground crime trade.

From prison onwards ‘The Autobiography’ really takes off and its meatyness as a book comes into play. The simultaneously loved and hated public persona of Malcolm X starts to really develop. His speeches (in prison, in the mosques and on tv) are quoted with vast explanations, which adds to the context and understanding of some of his more radical quotes. This however does not remove the racist and sexist nature of his opinions – in fact they are magnified and sharpened by the lack of interruption. Some of these opinions Malcolm X revises or comes to completely disagree with by the end of ‘The Autobiography’ (such as segregation and the concept of there being ‘no good whites’), others he retains. This caustic aspect of ‘The Autobiography’ is perhaps its greatest achievement – to exclude these remarks, and their reasons, would rob the text of all historical accuracy and power. To put down the book due to offense, without attempting to understand the social forces that contributed towards his reactions, I think would be a grave mistake.

As an atheist, part of me bridled against his constant exhalation of Islam. I experience the same reaction when reading Christian texts or characters who constantly reference the power of Jesus. Given that once Malcolm X converted he seemed to conduct himself with sincere dedication to Islam it was easier for me to read. At times it was interesting to peer through the mind of someone who experiences the love and reassurance of religion. I couldn’t help but share Malcolm X’s elation at the brotherhood of Mecca and his first experience of a society where dignity and respect wasn’t determined by skin colour.

The teachings of Elijah Muhammad about the natural roles of man and woman - men being strong and women being inherently weak – obviously didn’t go down well with me. ’The Autobiography’ is littered with misogynistic commentary, which will cause frustration and disgust for any female reader. Near the end Malcolm X’s views seemed to cautiously shift in an indirect fashion. He honours his sister, Ella, and his wife’s strength of character – whether or not he would have followed these thoughts to their inevitable conclusion is no ones place to guess.

Another theme of Malcolm X is the two-faced nature of the intellectual elite and their methods of keeping the blacks down by placating the masses with Civil Rights bills, whilst simultaneously reinforcing a climate of restriction and hatred. As with ‘The Nazi Doctors’, it surprises me how the intellectual elite are often integral in to the process of repression. A particular example of this is ‘The March On Washington’, where a potentially explosive protest organised by the black populace of America was manipulated into being an occassion for everyone, thus defusing the situation and giving the effect of reconciliation (it made disturbing comparisons to the National Apology to aboriginals in Australia). It reminds me of the posturing and back patting of such events as Earth Hour. In the words of Malcolm X ‘…this monumental farce is another example of how much this country goes in for the surface glossing over, the escape ruse, surfaces, instead of truly dealing with its deep-rooted problems’.

Whether you agree or disagree with his opinions, ’The Autobiography of Malcolm X’ is a powerful book. Alex Haley’s diligent collection of information and beautiful delivery are a credit to his skills as a journalist and author. ‘The Autobiography’ could be read as an incredible tale of metamorphosis of the most extreme caliber, a notion that is fundamentally important in human nature and repeated throughout literature. An interest in politics, America or history will help, however I feel that there is enough in the vibrance of Malcolm X’s words to keep any reader’s attention.
