I know I joke all the time on this site about basically everything under the sun, but I’d like to take the time to give you guys a serious outlook on something for a change. This is honestly what sports is really about. I know this has nothing to do with an actual game or competition or any of the other things that makes sports fucking awesome. But this kid Jack Hoffman just experienced something that not many people get to experience in life, and it is something that he will remember for the rest of his life. Being a diehard Nebraska fan, he got this opportunity because he formed a bond with their running back Rex Burkhead last year when he was battling cancer and was invited to join the team on the sidelines for the spring game. You can call me a pussy or whatever you want for admitting that I got teary eyed when I first saw this, but honestly if you didn’t then you have no heart.

In an earlier article I talked about the top five quarterbacks in this year’s draft. As anyone who follows the NFL draft knows, this year is not exactly the greatest class for QB’s. Out of the top five, three of them I had never heard of, the number one had a disappointing senior year, and the other one is a USC quarterback (need I say more?). But one who has come under the radar that has caught my attention is Arizona’s Matt Scott.

First let’s start by highlighting his combine so far. The California native did not come in with a lot of hype surrounding him but has been turning heads ever since. Scott ran a 4.69 40-yard dash and was able to impress scouts with his passing abilities.

In his senior season he passed for 3620 yards and 27 touchdowns, while also rushing for 506 yards and six touchdowns. Scott led Arizona to an 8-5 record including a win over Nevada in the New Mexico Bowl. But what impresses me the most is his experience running Rich Rodriguez’s spread offense. With the spread becoming the popular scheme in the NFL recently, I could see him going in the late second or maybe third land and making an impact within a few years. It could be a similar situation to Colin Kaepernick in San Francisco. Scott wont be the type to make an immediate impact like Robert Griffin III or Russell Wilson, but given time, he could be the next big NFL dual-threat quarterback. Given the fact that he still does the majority of his damage with his arm, I do not foresee him getting as beat up as Michael Vick or RG3. Though he may not get the acclaim now, I feel the poor quarterback class this year serves as an advantage for Scott who can fly in under the radar and take many in the NFL by surprise.

As we inch ever so much closer to April 27th and the NFL Draft, I wanted to put together the Cowboys Big Board. Players that should be on their War Room board in the first few rounds. One player of note is Tavon Austin isn’t a player I expect them to target, however if there at 18 it would give this team some leverage for making a deal to get more draft picks.

Well not technically uniform news, but anytime a player from Central Michigan is projected top 5, possibly even #1 in the NFL Draft, I’m gunna take the time to brag! So here’s Eric Fisher on the front page of SI.com yesterday, wearing the new jerseys we wore in the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl. We barely speak to each other anymore. I know he’s stressed out about his job and money and the kids, but damn so am I! Why is it all about him, never about us?

I see Jackson every day now. He asked me to go to lunch with him next week. I said yes, I mean that’s okay, right? It’s in a public place. It’s just two friends having lunch. Okay, well one of them friends is freaking hot as hell (and no that’s not me)… but still.. we are just friends.

WHAT THE HELL!!! I swear to God they are trying to drive me crazy. Brianna decided that she needed a new dress for the date she was going to go out on.. so I took her shopping and everything was too ugly, too long, too boring! She finally found one but it was $124… for a dress??? Not a gown, a friggin dress! I refused to buy it for her and now she’s pissed off at me. Well too bad baby girl, you weren’t born into a rich family. I don’t even own a dress that costs that much, hell my wedding dress didn’t cost that much. Then Derrick decided to break his leg playing basketball with his friends, ugh that was a fortune. Little bit wants to do dance, soccer and gymnastics… UUUGGGHHH.. there isn’t enough time for me to do it all and Craig is still just all about him! I asked him the other night if he wanted to help me do the dishes so we could just talk for awhile since we never see each other. He said.. “no.. I have other stuff to do” and when I got done cleaning the kitchen I came out to find him passed out on the couch!!!!! So he’d rather sleep then talk to me. I tried to start sex with him last week, I put on my sexy black nightie and heels, did my make up and came into the room. I got.. “Wow.. you look nice baby..” then a kiss on the cheek as he turned over to get his book. So I went back to the bathroom.. washed my face, got my vibrator and got myself off. Fuck it. Fuck it all…

On a different note… the girls and I from work went out to lunch last Wednesday and hottie cop was there! He smiled at me and then to my surprise he came up to me. His name is Jackson. He said I looked really familiar and wandered where he knew me from. I didn’t want to sound desperate and go “Omg.. you were at my work and I saw you and ….”… so I just smiled and said.. “I do huh?”… he smiled so sweetly, he’s got a perfect smile. Those eyes.. I could just swim in them. I was actually a little wet after he left. Oh what am I doing? He’s not interested in me… and if he was.. .why would he be? Okay.. I’m not bad.. but he’s so much younger then me! Maybe he just wants a friend.. yeah, that has to be it.. he looks at me as a “motherly” type. He said “I hope to see you again” when he walked out. I find myself looking everywhere now for him.. just a glimpse. I feel like a school girl again, and honestly… this is the excitement of my life… how sad is that?

January 9, 2013 Texas A&M tackle Luke Joeckel is leaving the Aggies early to enter the NFL Draft

January 9, 2013

Texas A&M tackle Luke Joeckel is leaving the Aggies early to enter the NFL Draft, but he didn’t want to just cut off without saying goodbye.

So, he took to the Texas A&M athletics website and wrote a letter thanking everyone involved in his time at Texas A&M.

As you may have heard, I have decided to enter the 2013 NFL Draft and forego my senior season at Texas A&M. While I am excited about my future, I wanted you to know this was a very hard decision. To leave A&M, my brother Matt, my teammates, the coaches and the 12th Man is the toughest thing I have ever done. However, like graduating high school early to come to A&M three years ago, I feel like I again have an opportunity that I cannot pass up.

As I leave College Station to pursue my dream of playing in the NFL, know that I will be back often. Also know that I will do what I can to let everyone know how great A&M is. Hopefully, you feel I have been a good friend and served the 12th Man and University well. I know as I look back, it is you and all the great experiences I’ve had on and off the field that make me proud to be an Aggie.

Throughout the letter Joeckel also thanked the fans, his teammates, coaches and even the university’s business school. This type of letter isn’t something you see every day. Usually, if a player declares early, he’s gone the following semester and that’s the last you hear from him for awhile.

So kudos to Joeckel, who took the time to express his gratitude to a program that likely has made him one of the top picks in the draft.

Clemson junior quarterback Tajh Boyd has had one hell of a year, and it was topped of yesterday after being named American Football Coaches Association First Team All American, and ACC Player of the Year.

Boyd is riding a wave of momentum heading into the bowl season and may feel the need to strike while the iron is hot.

Tiger Net is reporting that Boyd will file the necessary paperwork with the NFL Draft to get a sense of where he might be drafted.

Boyd will then sit down with his family, see what his options are, and he may indeed turn pro.

“That is one of those deals where I am going to submit my paperwork and consider it,” Boyd said. “I haven’t made a decision yet, but when I get my paperwork back I will sit down with my coaches and parents and those closest to me and talk about it and make the best decision possible. But there is still no decision yet.”

Boyd indicated not set round or pick would affect his decision either way.

“I haven’t really thought about a certain round or anything of that nature,” he said.

Boyd led the Atlantic Coast Conference in passing efficiency, total offense, and total touchdowns with 43.

There is no doubt about Andrew Luck’s status as a superstar quarterback. Playing for Stanford, he won a raft of honors and was the overall first pick in the 2012 National Football League draft. Now with the Indianapolis Colts, Andrew has left the Bay Area, but has continued his support of our local youth with a generous gift of 20 Lenovo computers to BGCP.

Pelham Johnston, Director of the Microsoft Computer Clubhouse, summed it up by saying:

“We are very focused on academics and these new tools will definitely help our members tackle their homework during Power Hour. They will also allow our kids to develop their creativity and learn to express themselves in a safe environment.”

“Our current computers are fairly old,” said Pelham. “These new ones will really help our members learn to use the state-of-the-art technology tools they will need in the workplace. We will also use the computers for our parent education programs to help them develop the computer skills that are necessary in this technology-oriented economy.”

Fifth-grade Menlo Park Club member Cielo is really looking forward to being able to use the new tools: “I am so excited to use these new computers because I will learn new things every time I go to the computer room.”

Andrew Luck may have moved away from our neighborhood, but he has clearly not forgotten the young people who still need his support. Pelham expressed the thoughts of many when he said, “Andrew Luck is BGCP’s MVP!”

Pete Carroll announced this week that rookie Russell Wilson with start at QB for the 3rd Seahawks preseason game. Most around the league would agree that Wilson has earned the right to start after having two great performances so far in preseason. He comes into game 3 completing 22 of 33 passes for 279 yards. He has thrown for 3 TD’s and 1 interception. He also racked up 92 yards and a TD on the ground.

I want to go over a few things in relation to this news and completion. Mind you this is only my opinion and you are welcome to call me an idiot or tell me how right I am.

First off, Tavaris Jackson is out. That is pretty clear after no playing time in either of the first two preseason games. The reps at 1st string in practice are either pity passes or keeping him fresh to see if there is any trade value for him out there. If there isn’t, I expect him to be gone before the final cuts. We paid Matt Flynn too much money and we can see he has played better than Jackson. Wilson so far is a solid QB with starting potential and they are not letting that go. Lastly, they are not going to pay Jackson millions to sit on the bench in the 3rd string spot.

The next question is what to read into Wilson starting in the third game. Traditionally, this is the game the starters get the most reps. Some would argue that starting Wilson in this game means he is now the clear favorite for the starting job. I am not sold on that. With the way Carroll is playing this competition out, I really think that they want to see what he can do against a 1st team defense. It will be a good test for him.

Flynn had a rough game 2 going 6 for 13 with 31 yards. There is a grain of salt with those stats however as Terrell Owens dropped a gift from the gods in the end zone and Golden Tate had a TD pass carry him out of bounds. Flynn has shown he has the ability to manage the offense and reduce the amount the stupid plays and mistakes that plagued Jackson last year. I think he is easily capable of running the offense in an effective manner while the defense dominates the game.

One of the things that I can’t seem to make up my mind on is what kind of QB that Carroll and the Hawks want. We can look at Flynn and Wilson and see that they have very different styles. Flynn is going to be less mobile and use more precision passes out of the pocket. He can run if needed, but he’s not winning any sprints anytime soon. People keep saying that he lacks the arm strength, but after seeing that dropped pass to T.O., I don’t have a whole lot of concern there. Wilson on the other hand is a mover. He is fast and has no problem getting out of the pocket and pulling it down and taking off if nobody is available. He has shown for shorter guy, he has a big arm, not to mention some incredible accuracy. Let’s not forget this guy finished his senior year at Wisconsin with a 72.8 completion percentage for the season. That is incredible.

The biggest difference here is experience. Don’t get me wrong, Flynn has only started two games in his entire career; however, he has been in the league studying under a guy named Aaron Rodgers for four seasons. That is going to be a huge bonus considering you have a rookie in the Wilson. Logic would tell you that Flynn will get the job and Wilson will be the backup when the regular season starts. With Carroll however, logic has seemed to go out the window and in most cases, he has made it work.

Personally I want to see Flynn start. I like the idea of letting rookies develop and get them some NFL experience before you throw them to the wolves. This team could be difference though. In most cases with starting rookie QB’s, the team is crap. Look at the Colts and Redskins. This is different. We have a projected top 5 defense, a beast mode run game, and some talent the in the receiver core if they can stay healthy and live up to the potential. I do believe Wilson has a better chance to start year than most other teams.

It should be interesting to see what happens this week. All this could irrelevant and probably will be very soon. However it goes down, I think the Hawks have two very good options at QB and I like what I am seeing.

The deal is not yet official so no financial details have been released but the new contract is expected to match other top D-Ends in the league.

As much as I can’t stand when these petty athletes holdout, I’m glad Clemons will be back to help the Seahawks’ weak pass rush. We’ll let you know more contract details as they are released.

**UPDATE** The Seahawks have confirmed the deal is official. Neither side has commented on the terms.

07:08 23/07/2012,

Nowadays, defensive lineman are a must-have for NFL teams. Most of the currently successful ones have come through the NFL draft in recent years. In the 2013 NFL draft, there are a number of highly-skilled defensive lineman who could have the same sort of success.

Defensive ends are at a premium in this draft class, most of which come out of the SEC and Big 12 conferences. Over the last few years, these conferences have produced some of the best defensive players in the NFL and the 2013 Draft class will be no different. However, there are also a number of other lineman in the country whom scouts will be focusing heavily on throughout the coming college football season.

The Cleveland Browns are in search of playmakers all over the field so risking a 2nd round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft was no big thing to them.

According to nfl.com, the Browns selected the 6-foot-3 224 pound Gordon with a second round pick in the supplemental draft.

Rules of the supplemental draft state that the Browns will forfeit that pick in the regular draft held in April.

Gordon hasn’t played since 2010 when he caught 42 passes for 714 yards and seven touchdowns at Baylor.

The young wide-out was dismissed from Baylor in 2011 for a bevy of different issues and transferred to Utah.

Gordon wasn’t eligible to play but impressed many in practices during the season.

Several unnamed sources stated that the kid is all hype and wouldn’t take a risk on him.

The Browns have already started a makeover with the drafting of quarterback Brandon Weeden and running back Trent Richardson.

Second round picks are valuable so it will be a waste if Gordon doesn’t pan out.

Lets hope the hype is right.

June 3, 2012

Former Oklahoma State receiver Justin Blackmon was arrested early Sunday morning in Stillwater on a complaint of aggravated DUI.

Blackmon, 22, was still being held in custody, according to the Payne County Jail. No further details were given, but a police report should become available by Monday morning.

In Oklahoma, an aggravated DUI is when the driver has a blood alcohol content of .15 or higher.

For Blackmon, who was selected fifth overall in April’s NFL Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars, this would be his second alcohol related offense.

He was arrested in October 2010 on a misdemeanor DUI complaint in Carrolton, Texas. Returning to Stillwater after a Monday night Dallas Cowboys game, Blackmon was arrested at 3:45 a.m. Using radar, police determined he was going 92 miles per hour in a 60 mph zone.

Blackmon just completed one of the greatest two-year runs in Oklahoma State history, combining for 232 catches, 3,304 yards and 38 touchdowns. He was the second player in history to win two Biletnikoff Awards, given to the nation’s best wide receiver. Texas Tech’s Michael Crabtree was the other.

Blackmon has been competing in offseason rookie activities as a member of the Jaguars, but he is still yet to sign a contract.

Justin Blackmon was born on January 9th, 1990 according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Justin_Blackmon

January 9th, 1990

January 9th

1 + 9 +2+0+1+2 = 15 = his personal year (from January 9th, 2012 to January 8th, 2013) = Fines.

[Section 6 of Article 42 states that teams are not allowed to punish players for violating the league's substance abuse program.

Section 6. NFL Drug and Steroid Policies: No Club may impose any discipline against a player, including but not limited to terminating the player's Player Contract, as a result of that Player's violation of the Policy on Anabolic Steroids and Related Sub-stances or the NFL Policy and Program on Substances of Abuse, or for failing any drug test, provided, however, that the fact that a player has violated the Policy on Anabolic Steroids and Related Substances or the NFL Policy and Program on Substances of Abuse, or has failed a drug test will not preclude the termination of his Player Contract if such termination is otherwise expressly permissible under this Agreement or the player's Player Contract.

Then again, this begs to question if alcohol related incidents fall under the NFL drug policy or if they fall under something different. If it does not fall under the NFL drug policy it most likely falls under the catch-all of "Conduct Detrimental To Club". Section 1 xv of Article 42 states the following on "Conduct detrimental to Club":

(xv) Conduct detrimental to Club-maximum fine of an amount equal to one week's salary and/or suspension without pay for a period not to exceed four (4) weeks. This maximum applies without limitation to any deactivation of a player in response to player conduct (other than a deactivation in response to a player's on-field playing ability), and any such deactivation, even with pay, shall be considered discipline subject to the limits set forth in this section. The Non-Injury Grievance Arbitrator's decision in Terrell Owens (Nov. 23, 2005) is thus expressly overruled as to any Club decision to deactivate a player in response to the player's conduct.

If it falls under this category, than the team may be able to suspend Blackmon without pay for up to four weeks (games).]
