We like to think we have time…that we are not all that responsible for the consequences for our choices until later in life. When? Not now. Later. (see – the number of 26-29 year olds still living at home) But the truth is, we are all victims of self-imposed circumstances. For example, today is national signing day for college football. Thousands of young men, 18 year olds, will be making choices that will determine their future. Their whole future.

Just weeks after withdrawing his verbal commitment from Florida, Greg Reid announced that he will play for Florida State. Knife, meet Florida’s back.

Reid made the announcement during a radio show Tuesday night on the eve of national signing day. … “It felt like it was the right place for me,” Reid said.

The highly-touted defensive back cited several reasons why Florida State won out over his other potential college choices — schools like Alabama, Georgia and, of course, Florida:

Reid had said there were three things he liked more about FSU than the other schools: 1) Early playing time, with the chance to start as a freshman; 2) Closest to home for family and friends to watch him play, with Tallahassee only 85 miles away, while Athens at 240 and Tuscaloosa, Ala., at 380; 3) Playing alongside his high school teammate, Gerald Demps, who is also committed to FSU.

Reid won the Atlanta Journal-Constituion’s state Player of the Year award for Georgia this season. He’s almost a lock to see time immediately on FSU’s secondary and special teams units.

In addition to dominating as a cornerback, Reid showed his athleticism off as a running back at Valdosta’s Lowndes High, rushing for 1,242 yards and 16 touchdowns as a senior. Rivals.com ranks Reid as a five-star prospect, the fourth-best corner in the recruiting class of 2009 and the 27th-best player overall.

Vision is all over this story, for Gred Reid, for his high school coaches, for the recruiters, and for the now responsible parties at Florida State.

We are all making choices today that will effect the rest of our lives…
