This is truly a treat for your skin! A little exfoliation goes a long way…this Carrot facial polish by Glory Boon provides an effective scrub without aggressing the skin to remove dead skin cells that make the skin look dull and lackluster. Best of all it’s 100% Natural and 100%Cruelty Free!

Exfoliation is a step in a person’s skin care routine that should be done at least once a week as it gets rid of impurities and dead skin cells. If these are not removed, it can become deap seated and it can also lead to acne, blemishes and blackheads. Aside from that, it can also improve the skin’s ability to renew skin cells to help make your skin look refreshed and glowing. It is also important to keep in mind that facial exfoliators can tighten the skin and fight the early signs of skin aging.

Carrot oil…has many beneficial and regenerative skin properties. It stimulates skin cells growth and renewal and maintains the elasticity of skin, helping it stay soft, smooth and young looking.
It also has considerable skin repairing abilities and is known to sooth and prevent irritations, as well as to heal dry, chapped and cracked skin.

I love Honey!!!!
Honey is said to have anti-aging properties. Honey is a humectant, having the ability attract and retain moisture, and to rebuild the moisture level in the skin without making it oily.

Last week I was shopping for makeup at Macy’s and I was a little surprise when I saw how expensive their exfoliators were, they ranged between $20-$60 a bottle! Even a Neutrogena scrub, which sells at CVS for about $12, can turn expensive since you need to buy 2 bottles a month if you scrub about 2x or 3x a week.

Now, I know exfoliating is very important because even if you don’t have an acne problem, they help clean your skin, by remove all the dead skin and impurities from your face and pores. Yet, I still don’t think someone should spend close to $30 dollars a month on these sorts of products!

So, on that note, today I wanted to share with you what I use as an exfoliator. It is a simple, easy-to-make and affordable scrub. You probably have already heard about it, but this scrub is so good I couldn’t stop myself from sharing it!

The scrub I use is a sugar and honey scrub!

The secret in this scrub lies within the benefits of honey, which include reducing wrinkles, leaving the skin much softer, and many more!

The ingredients are pretty simple,

½ a cup of Sugar (granulated)

Honey.The recipe is even simpler:

Put the sugar in a bowl, (You might need less than ½ a cup? Try to use enough to cover your face!)

Add enough honey to make it a paste.

Exfoliate your face for about 1-2 minutes with your scrub.

I have very oily skin and I used to have very clogged pores and blackheads all over my nose and chin. This scrub has really helped me get better skin.

Sometimes I will even add a few drops of lemon/lime juice. Lemon juice is proven to help brighten skin, so if you have dark spots, burns or scars this can really help reduce their appearance! And sometimes instead of sugar I will use oatmeal for a much gentler scrub!

I usually do this when I am taking a hot shower. The steam and water helps opens up your pores and soften the oil and impurities you might have stuck in there, so I will put my face under the shower for about 1-2 minutes and than turn away exfoliate my face with my homemade scrub!

But just like other exfoliator you should exfoliate responsibly, once or twice a week at most would be ideal! I really love this scrub because it uses ingredients that you can find at home, or can purchase from you local store for under 12 dollars and last you about 2-3 months.

I also love the fact that I know exactly what is going on my face! Does it ever bother you reading all the ingredients in your scrub or cleanser and not knowing what they mean? This scrub gets rid of those two evils and at least in my experience really has done wonders to my skin! I really hope you all try it and let me know how well it works for you!

I hope it’s save to say that winter is gone; after veiling my skin for the last months with co

I hope it’s save to say that winter is gone; after veiling my skin for the last months with cold weather, bright lights, dry air and public transportation air, I am ready for a deep cleansing of my skin. Scrubbing my skin is my way to polish and groom the shield that allows me to interact with the world and what better time to clean the skin than Spring (this can be done all year around though)

A little nerdy facts, exfoliants cleanse deep within the pores and remove old flaky, surface skin. In my research of essential oils’ health benefits, I’ve re-discover some simple exfoliants that work great for any skin type. Different essential oils are used for different complexion types: dry skin – frankincense, oily skin – tea tree, sun damaged – sandalwood, etc, etc. But there is an essential oils that works with all skin types and most skin conditions, that is lavender essential oil. So without having to consult an aromatherapist or dermatologist, a lavender exfoliant can be a good start for most folks. After some research and trial on my skin (no animals were scrubbed in this experiment), I am ready to share my favorite facial scrub.

A little safety note, essential oils, if you haven’t use them before, are in their majority steam-extracts of plant’s vital substances. They are super concentrates of plants’ super powers. Essential oils are use in Aromatherapy, but despite the name, it is not the aroma that makes them work. So when using essential oils on your skin, make sure you are using “therapeutic grade” essential oils. I have never had any allergic reaction with therapeutic grade essential oil, but every skin have different degrees of sensitivity so use your judgement when using any substance on your skin (a.k.a., no one here is a dermatologist so if you have sensitive skin, be careful)

This is what you need

1 part oatmeal, 1/3 part cornmeal (I have used sugar instead), 1/3 part lavender (the market at Union Square has a stand that sells lavender)

Essential oil: lavender

I keep some next to my sink and often use it instead of soap. All ingredients used are kitchen staples, minus the essential oil, so I make small amounts at time so it doesn’t spoil. The exfoliant can be stored in a cover container so that it won’t dry out quickly. I have used it after 20 days of storing without any problems.

This is what you do

Grind the ingredients together in an electric coffee grinder or a mortar to a fine powder, and store it in a closed glass container. To use the scrub, make a paste using 1 teaspoon scrub powder and ½ teaspoon water with lavender essential oil. Apply to a dampened face. Gently scrub your face, and rinse with warm water. You can also use this mixture as a mask by leaving it on for 10 minutes after you scrub. Rise with room temperature water.

This scrub also tastes good, perhaps I can try cupcakes with the left over…as usual if you have questions let me know.

I have the WORST itchy legs. Its worse after I shave, and gets even worse (if thats possible) a day

I have the WORST itchy legs. Its worse after I shave, and gets even worse (if thats possible) a day or so after I shave. Luckily, I get a break in the winter when I shave about once a month. Gross, right? But I have to! They itch SO bad that I wake up in the middle of the night scratching, and dont realize I have literally scratched my legs raw and bloody. Even more gross right?

Now that it is spring/summer time, Im having to shave every other day again, and I cant sleep at night. Ive read a lot online and I found that there are many MANY other women with my same problem and no solution. Doctors try to put them on meds or tell them to change soaps, and the common story is that they have all tried everything- hot water, cold water, different water, soaps, shave gels, neither one, different razors, new razors more often, organic scrubs and washes, oral medications, different lotions- and NOTHING WORKS!

I did find that the reason for the itch is that when the hairs grow back they get stuck behind dry skin, so it was suggested that I (we) try natural exfoliants. Some say it worked, some didnt. But I happened to have shaved the day before yesterday, so I itched BAD yesterday, and I was willing to try anything.

Anyway, here is the recipe I made up, using several other recipes as a guideline.

1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup sea salt
2 tbsp honey
1 tbsp vanilla extract
1 tbsp olive oil (I would have preferred almond or sunflower oil, but I didnt have any)

And since I was already in my baking ingredients, I ate a few chocolate chips. Mmmmm!

I mixed it all together in a bowl, and rubbed it on my legs in a circular motion. Then I shaved. And did it again.

There is enough left over for me to exfoliate again after my shower today. Like my little jarring method?

Had I not spread this all over my legs, it just might have been a good start for a cookie recipe! For now, Ill just be happy smelling like a cookie. A freshly shaved, non-itchy cookie.

By the way, Ill update later as to whether or not it worked. For now, though, its working!!! YAY!

Good Morning!!!

Today, I am going to share with you my sugar scrubs experience. I started researching sugar scrubs last year when I wanted to bring a new product to the “In’Fusion” range. I understand today that exfoliating the skin is primary to the health and well being of the skin. Basically, if you want healthy, radiant and glowing skin, you need to exfoliate it. It is not by using scrubs alone that your skin will be healthiest as possible; however, scrubs create the perfect base to start with. It’s a bit like putting make up. If your skin underneath is unhealthy and uneven, it will show no matter the amount of base you use, there is only so much that make up can do. To obtain the best results, you want your facial skin underneath the make up to be healthy. It’s that simple. The same applies to your body.

Explanation:

The outer layer of your skin holds countless dead skin cells. Underneath these dead skin cells, your skin creates new cells and that is why the old ones surface. A small amount of these dead skin cells will slough off on their own. This natural process happens all day everyday. These dead skin cells build up on the outer layer of your skin and, that build up makes your skin look dull. These dead skin cells can also clog your pores whilst trapping dirt and oils inside them, creating blackheads, pimples, and other facial blemishes. Removing these dead skin cells therefore promotes healthy skin by revealing the new, soft and healthy skin underneath.

What is important to know here is that exfoliating is best when the product itself is natural. Since the skin underneath is new, soft and healthy, it is more sensitive, therefore, chemicals are likely to be too strong and too abrasive for it. Natural ingredients are softer on the skin and are healthy to use and when used properly, cannot damage your skin. Also, whatever is absorbed in your skin thereafter is not damaging to your body.

When using natural scrubs, there is a variety of options. I am focusing mainly on sugar scrubs, and these are only for body use. I choose sugar scrubs as they are more versatile and suitable for everyone skin type. Salt scrubs are also very effective; however they are coarser and less versatile as they do not suit everyone’s skin type. Remember, when exfoliating, Facial scrubs and Body scrubs are very different. The reason for that is simply that Facial skin is softer and delicate whilst Body skin is stronger and robust. Sugar scrubs should be used at least once a week or twice, depending on your skin type.

As a soap maker, I engaged the scrub making journey last year. There is a large amount of information available on the net, which made my research so fascinating and full. I am incredibly grateful for the soap makers out there that share their work: as it has hugely assisted and inspired me and STILL IS.

Sugar Scrub with Oil at the surface

During my initial research (I am still researching, forever, I think!! There is just sooooo much to learn) I discovered the excitement of creating sugar scrubs and developing my own recipes. Testing them was magic (I tested them of course!!!). As time went by, in all of my attempts, the oil always surfaced and created a layer on top and, even though in my research most of the recipes mentioned that this would happen, it frustrated me. Furthermore, some scrubs didn’t do that but there were no indications on what was different. I revisited my recipes as I created them based on my research and thought I might have missed something but nothing showed up. The comforting reality was that I was using my scrubs and my skin was glowing, so I knew nothing was wrong.

Rich, Creamy and Moisturising Sugar Scrub

In any case, this year, determined as ever, I decided to make some tests with various changes in my recipes and leave them to sit for a few weeks. I made lots of notes and checked on them everyday to see if the oils separated. Some did but 2 didn’t and I now have a rich, creamy and moisturizing scrub recipe. So, for those of you who have been searching for that, it is possible and works!!! It is all about trying, experimenting and balancing your ingredients until you get the results you choose. Remember though that the results are only reliable after a few days as the ingredients have settled by then. This is what confused me at first as when I made them they were perfect and the next day, the oils separated and my jar looked emptier as the sugar compacted and sat at the bottom!!!

Here is the successful test!!! All natural ingredients… Rich, Creamy and soooooo attractive!!!

Thank you for your visit today!!

See you soon
