> La compaginación de usos pendiente, a debate en asamblea.

La asamblea general ordinaria que Riegos de Levante celebra mañana sábado en su sede del Parque Agroalimentario La Alcudia, a las 09h30 en primera convocatoria y a las 10h00 en segunda, estará marcada por la decisión que adopten los regantes sobre las gestiones realizadas para compaginar los usos en el paraje.

El pasado mes de febrero la comunidad reabrió las puertas del parque a la conselleria de Medio Ambiente, con la esperanza de que en lo que quedaba de año ambas partes cerraran el acuerdo para que El Hondo pudiera albergar usos tradicionales y medioambientales.

De hecho los contactos se han agilizado en las últimas semanas, y la junta de gobierno de la comunidad está dispuesta a esperar hasta las diez horas de mañana sábado, por si hay algún nuevo avance. Porque a partir de esa momento hay que rendir cuentas a los comuneros, y éstos decidir los acuerdos que procedan al respecto.

Desde la comunidad se espera en poder trasladar a la asamblea datos más concretos. Porque los regantes ven que el tiempo pasa y que en El Hondo sigue sin poderse compaginar los usos. Y nadie descarta que pueda plantearse un nuevo cierre del parque natural si los avances no empiezan a ser una realidad.

Con respecto al borrador de la revisión del Plan Hidrológico de la Cuenca del Segura, Riegos de Levante tiene muy claro que no permitirá un cambio en la toma del agua que viene del trasvase Tajo-Segura, del Azud de Ojós al de San Antonio. Los regantes decidirán si se adopta algún tipo de medida.

Por otro lado, por sexto año consecutivo la junta de gobierno de la comunidad ha decidido congelar la cuota de derecho de riego, manteniéndola en 57,49 euros. El presupuesto para el 2010 será continuista, prevaleciendo la austeridad y el control de los recursos.

En el transcurso de la asamblea de mañana, el presidente de Riegos de Levante, Manuel Serrano, presentará diversos informes sobre su gestión, y habrá un turno para ruegos y preguntas.

COMBATIR EL CAMBIO CLIMÁTICO
La Coordinadora Verde ve en la producción agraria ecológica la solución a los problemas del campo y un alivio a los problemas medioambientales. Para Los Verdes el actual sistema productivo europeo es “tóxico” y sus primeras víctimas son los propios agricultores y ganaderos.

Florent Marcellesi, coportavoz de la Coordinadora Verde considera que “los agricultores europeos son las primeras víctimas de este sistema productivo tóxico, que agrede a los productores, a los consumidores, al medioambiente y a la economía. Urge pues un cambio real en los sistemas de producción agrícola. Además de ralentizar y limitar la emisión de gases de efecto invernadero, la agricultura del futuro debe de garantizar un suministro alimentario local sostenible, garantizado unas condiciones de trabajo dignas al campesinado, unos productos de calidad a los consumidores y preservando así el medio ambiente.”

Los Verdes proponen en toda Europa una nueva agricultura sostenible con los siguientes requisitos estratégicos:

a) Reducción del consumo energético, fertilizantes y pesticidas. Mantenimiento de la fertilidad a largo plazo de nuestros suelos agrícolas. El cese de la agricultura intensiva y su paulatina sustitución por técnicas propias de la agricultura orgánica.

b) El desarrollo de un sector agropecuario diversificado y respetuoso con las variedades locales no exóticas y adaptadas al medio que consuman menos recursos energéticos. La proximidad de la producción a los lugares de consumo para reducir emisiones de gases de efecto invernadero y la preservación de la biodiversidad y los recursos naturales.

c) Fomentar el cambio de hábitos alimentarios en los países ricos y el no cambio en los países emergentes, encaminándose hacia la reducción significativa del consumo excesivo de proteínas animales, que están provocando en su crianza la emisión de gases de efecto invernadero, múltiples problemas de salud a la población, condiciones de cultivo no sostenible y la deforestación en los países productores de carne o forraje.

d) Acabar con la competencia desleal por parte de los sectores agrícolas industriales subsidiados de los países del Norte respecto a los países del Sur que ven hundirse sus mercados locales, destruyen el modo de vida de sus campesinos y provocan su dependencia de la ayuda alimentaria internacional pretendidamente caritativa.

Sonia Ortiga, coportavoz de la Coordinadora Verde pone el énfasis en la influencia brutal de la agricultura en el cambio climático: “Hoy en día la agricultura contribuye directamente a un 14% de las emisiones de gases de efecto invernadero. Si incluimos, sin embargo, la deforestación provocada por la producción industrial de soja, de biocombustibles, el uso de fertilizantes químicos y la ganadería intensiva, la contribución de la agricultura a la alteración del clima es casi un 25%. Este último dato a su vez no cuantifica la energía necesaria para la fabricación de fertilizantes y el transporte generado por el comercio agrícola, lo cual sin duda incrementaría la contribución final de la agricultura intensiva e insostenible al problema de las emisiones de gases de efecto invernadero. “

Para Sonia Ortiga la agricultura debe ser parte ineludible de la solución: “El sector agrícola ha pasado de ser un eficaz sumidero de gases de efecto invernadero a ser un voraz consumidor de energía fósil. De hecho, los alimentos que llegan a nuestros platos consumen para su cultivo, de media, diez veces más energía de la que nos proporcionan. La situación actual comienza, por lo tanto, a rayar en lo absurdo, si a estos factores añadimos que la agricultura industrial basada en monocultivos extensivos y el uso abusivo de fertilizantes químicos y pesticidas contribuye, y mucho, a la pérdida de la biodiversidad vegetal y animal en el planeta”.

En palabras de Florent Marcellesi, “es necesario consolidar el empleo de la fuerza de trabajo endógena, mediante la promoción del ahorro de energía y de tecnologías adaptadas a las condiciones locales. Se deben reemplazar los cultivos de productos para la exportación por el cultivo de alimentos ecológicos para los mercados locales, lo cual fomenta el desarrollo económico local, estabiliza los mercados e independiza a los productores de los vaivenes internacionales y de intereses especulativos en mercados de futuros. La agricultura ecológica no ha notado la crisis.”

No, I cannot stake a claim to organic milk.  I cannot say the farmer’s field that contained the corn, or other grains in my feed, was never sprayed with anything other than natural fertilizer.

What I can tell you is this, my hay is raised by a local Mennonite neighbor that does use natural fertilizer.  The fertilizer comes from our local dairy barns, including mine.  There are no chemicals used on any of the dairy farms.

The feed that I use is a recipe that I developed.  It is mixed at a local mill, and the grain comes from local farms.  I know of no farms that use artificial pesticides or fertilizers in this area.  My farm is never sprayed with pesticides.

My dairy animals are not given growth hormones, nor do they receive antibiotics or chemical wormers while they are in milk.

I believe that is about as close to organic standards as you can get without the USDA stamp of organic.

It’s official, Iggy has started teething.  Six weeks ago we were sure his pearly whites had started their descent from the gum line, but it was either a false alarm or they decided to scamper back to the safety of their home and plan a better orchestrated attack.  Well they’re back, ruthless and taking no prisoners.

The first sign was the drooling:

Then he started poking his tongue out his mouth 90% of the time he was awake:

Little does he know his Mom sucked her thumb until she was at least 8 years old.

So we decided to give him a rusk to chew on:

For those of you not fluent in babyspeak, a rusk is defined as:

I couldn't have said it better myself.

Apparently this teething thing can last until bubs is 3 years old, so we’ve got a LONG way to go.  Until then, it looks as though we better arm ourselves with an arsenal of rusks, paracetamol, chew toys, drool bibs and ear plugs.

“Judicial notice” is a term found in the Federal Rules of Evidence. It applies to getting facts into the court record and, once those facts have been added to the record, assigns what weight this evidence will receive. Long ago, in a galaxy far away, I installed custom spas.

One of these was in a condominium basement where space for the equipment was at a premium. So we mounted the air blower (you know, the thing that makes the water fizz like a carbonated cola) on the wall in the adjacent underground garage.

Not long after the tenants began moving in, an old woman, who bore a striking resemblance to Yoda in both appearance and syntax, complained, “stinks like GAHbage the jacuzzi.”

We had unknowingly mounted the blower directly above what turned out to be the location of the building’s dumpsters. It was sucking in the not-so-fragrant aroma wafting up from all manner of refuse residing below, infusing the spa with its essence.

Now, you don’t have to hail from another planet to know that water can carry contaminants. Just ask any parent who has placed her young child in the neighborhood swimming pool. That yellow water ain’t lemonade, folks.

Well, maybe it was at one time.

Transporting contaminants is one thing; but can water create them as well? What happens when you add water, a “natural” substance, to “natural” shampoos, called such because they contain, among other things, no preservatives?

Nature is the original recycler. Simply stated, water contains bacteria. Bacteria feed on plant and animal matter. It’s one of nature’s ways of breaking matter down to its primary components.

At the basic, molecular level all living things are recycled. Thus, when any living thing dies, including our bodies, the molecules of minerals and other elements that comprise it are gradually deconstructed through decomposition, to eventually become reconstructed as a part of some other living thing, plant or animal.

All shampoos (and conditioners) contain some form of plant matter; some even use animal protein. Add water, and the bacteria, like swarms of ravenous piranha, begin their feeding frenzy; the decomposition begins.

By the way, foreign matter, like dirt and hair, also carries those hungry little buggers, and when introduced into undiluted shampoo can likewise cause contamination.

Some shampoo manufacturers add a preservative, a natural or synthetic chemical that prevents bacterial spoilage. Unfortunately, many preservatives release formaldehyde, that fluid of funerial fame, which, incidentally, is used as a preservative to prevent bacterial spoilage of the human body.

Thus, while an unopened jug of “natural” shampoo may have a 3-4 year shelf life, when mixed with water it may only last 3-4 days, at best.

How can you tell when something has gone bad? The nose knows. Odor is a byproduct of decomposition. When the shampoo begins to smell like GAHbage or the conditioner reminds you of Jaba the Hutt’s breath just discard it.

The best adage is “when in doubt, throw it out.” No use risking a bad reaction from the your bather or the bathee just to save a few pennies worth of product.

While there is much controversy over what may or may not leach out of plastic containers, plastic’s porosity means substances, like bacteria, can also be absorbed into the containers.

Bacteria can thrive in virtually any container under the right conditions.

Just ask Cody, who works in our warehouse. This past summer he left a large cup of a “natural” fruit smoothie in the office refrigerator over a weekend. Of course, there comes the time in every plastic bottle’s life when you just have to apply the “when in doubt” rule mentioned earlier.

Plastic bottles are not immortal.

Neither are natural shampoos. Following a few simple safeguards, though, can help prevent irritated pets and irate customers.

You certainly don’t want bacterial gunk –or an angry Ms. Yoda –on your hands, do you?

A estas alturas de la historia ninguna persona medianamente informada duda ya de que la llamada ‘Guerra de Afganistán’ es un episodio más de la ya larga batalla que libran los países occidentales -con EEUU a la cabeza- por dominar el Oriente Medio, tanto en términos geopolíticos como a causa de sus recursos naturales, especialmente los energéticos.

En esa macro-operación diseñada por las multinacionales norteamericanas y ejecutada por los gobiernos de Estados Unidos a su servicio, se enmarca tanto el conflicto de Afganistán como las dos invasiones de Iraq de 1991 y 2003, además de servir de telón de fondo para entender las tensiones forzadas con Irán o la interminable agresión israelí sobre el pueblo palestino. La carrera por la hegemonía estratégica y el control de los recursos (gas y petróleo, principalmente), en Oriente Próximo y Medio convierten todas estas batallas en episodios de una larga guerra de corte netamente imperialista en la que participan los gobiernos europeos, sumisos y cómplices de la estrategia imperial norteamericana. Colonialismo y poder político unidos, dos de los ingredientes del imperialismo tradicional.

Justificar estas ocupaciones militares como lucha contra el terrorismo (como si los pueblos en su totalidad fueran terroristas), misiones de paz, operaciones de reconstrucción, implantación de la democracia, etc., son eufemismos propagandísticos que a casi nadie convencen.

La mayoría de la opinión pública en el Estado español sigue oponiéndose a la actual presencia militar española en Afganistán. Sólo el 3% de la población (y sólo el 1% de las mujeres) apoya la política del gobierno para enviar más tropas. Un 41% defiende la retirada (subiendo a un 47% entre las mujeres), y otro 19% favorece una reducción del contingente, según el Barómetro del Real Instituto Elcano.

A nivel internacional, crecen a diario las reacciones contra la participación en esa ocupación militar: en Italia, cada vez que muere un soldado; en el Reino Unido, con manifestaciones masivas; en Estados Unidos, el mismísimo presidente Obama ya no se atreve a enviar los 40.000 soldados más que le reclama el mando de la OTAN por las resistencias populares internas que le hacen perder popularidad a gran escala.

Como siempre, la ocupación sólo está teniendo un resultado claro: muerte y más muerte, tanto entre la población afgana como entre las tropas ocupantes. Ni el país se está reconstruyendo ni las condiciones de vida mejoran. La presencia de las tropas imperialistas en Afganistán sólo supone terror en la vida cotidiana, registro de casas, detenciones arbitrarias y, sobre todo, bombardeos de civiles.

La situación de las mujeres bajo el régimen talibán -que tanto escandalizó al mundo- apenas ha variado. Un 60% de las mujeres todavía son obligadas a casarse siendo niñas, a edades tan tempranas como los seis o los nueve años. Casi el último acto del gobierno de Karzai antes de las elecciones fue aprobar una ley que autoriza a los maridos chiítas a privar de alimentación a sus mujeres si no los satisfacen sexualmente al menos una vez cada cuatro días. Lo que refleja que la administración actual de Afganistán no depende de la propia población, sino de las fuerzas de ocupación y de los sectores ultraconservadores que las apoyan, por un precio.

No se ha llevado la democracia a Afganistán. La administración actual de Karzai está acusada de corrupción e incompetencia incluso por las autoridades estado­unidenses que la instalaron. Esto no debe sorprendernos si recordamos que Hamid Karzai fue un ejecutivo de una empresa petrolera americana (Unlocal), y que su gobierno incluye señores de la guerra y narcotraficantes. Las últimas elecciones no han mejorado la situación; han sido tan claramente fraudulentas que el gobierno afgano se plantea volver a ­convocarlas. Una democracia de verdad no se puede construir bajo la ocupación militar.

La debilidad e ineficacia de la administración afgana y los abusos de la ocupación han permitido que los talibanes se recuperen del desprestigio que sufrieron en 2001. De hecho, la resistencia ante las tropas invasoras no está formada sólo por los talibanes, sino por buena parte del campesinado que ha perdido familiares bajo las bombas de la OTAN, o ha visto sus campos arrasados en la ‘guerra contra la droga’. No olvidemos que con la ocupación el opio ha vuelto a ser el principal negocio del país.

La participación en la ocupación de muchos países europeos, bajo mandato de la OTAN, no mejora la situación en absoluto. Este fracaso militar está sirviendo para poner en cuestión, una vez más, la utilidad y eficacia de una Alianza militar para el intervencionismo y las ‘guerras preventivas’ que ha entrado en crisis precisamente a causa de las resistencias populares que provoca en todo el planeta. Los gobiernos europeos tienen ante sí el reto de desmarcarse de esta estrategia imperialista retirando sus contingentes.

En el caso español, la ocupación de Afganistán exige que el Gobierno: a) reconozca la participación española en una guerra tan real e injustificable como injusta; b) abandone la falsa retórica de las ‘misiones de paz’ o de ‘reconstrucción de un país’; c) renuncie a la tentación de ser otro alevín del imperialismo norteamericano, desmontando las bases militares españolas en Afganistán y en Asia Central (Manás en Tayikistán o los actuales intentos en Kirguistán); d) acepte que la intervención en Afganistán no es esencialmente diferente de la participación en Iraq, de donde el actual gobierno retiró las tropas; e) promueva un plan de reconstrucción de Afganistán, sobre la base del reconocimiento de la soberanía afgana.

Hoy, cuando la población trabajadora sufre los peores efectos de la crisis -cuando más de un millón de familias sin trabajo han perdido toda protección social-, dedicar 51 millones de euros diarios a gastos militares es simplemente una inmoralidad que no podemos soportar. La situación actual exige reorientar las prioridades del Gasto Público y dedicar los gastos militares a gastos sociales.

Por todo ello, el movimiento anti-guerra del Estado español convoca a la población a movilizarse -igual que lo hizo en 2003- ahora contra la guerra en Afganistán, y a participar en las protestas que se organizan el sábado 28 de noviembre en todo el Estado y, concretamente, acudir a la manifestación en Madrid que partirá a las 18h00 desde la Glorieta de Atocha hasta la Puerta del Sol.

Mothers are doing their research, not just asking for expert opinions from their doctors or pediatricians, a well-intentioned mother-in-law, or a neighbor; mothers are taking control of their own health destiny, and the health destiny of their children. In recent years, mothers have lost their trust because of the mainstream misuse of marketing, advertisements and pharmaceutical companies out for profit and success, not necessarily the health and well-being of their children, themselves, or their families. 1. Trust yourself first. Do NOT trust common, mainstream hear-say! It’s easy to spot: It usually starts with, “They say…” You and only you are responsible for yourself and your child/children. Trusting yourself and the research you do is absolutely crucial. Many times, we have well-intentioned, loving and caring friends,family, neighbors, and co-workers who are not privy to the resources, articles, research like you may be, and sometimes they may base their advice on what they have heard, their fears, propaganda, or they are reflecting the products of great marketing on behalf of profit seekers.

2. Consider the source. Where does the information come from?

3. Reveal the agenda of the source by reading between the lines.

4. Recognize target audience. (If it clearly targets a group, question it.)

5. Analyze the purpose and read between the lines.

6. Research the other side, even if you feel you are sure about one side or the other. What you may find will surprise you and further help you in your decision.

7. Seek out the “little guy” speaking out about whatever you are researching. (Generally, these sources don’t have the revenue to mass market or the time to devout to getting the message out; they work like you and me.)

8. Don’t talk to strangers—Don’t let the hear-say of strangers help make your decisions. The definition of a stranger is someone you do not know (for sure) has your best interest at heart. Do not assume that just because someone has power, a title, an education, or a business that they are advising what’s best. We see now that most people thought the Earth was flat –for centuries! Or doctors told mothers for years that there is really no difference between mother’s milk and powdered formula, and in fact was better! We heard for years that cigarettes had no harmful effects until someone from the inside spoke up. And, there are countless other examples.

9. Beware of Television and Media: Everyone is a stranger on television with an agenda, including t.v. shows, sitcoms, news media, actors, actresses, marketers, commercials etc.

10. Be Natural. “Nature knows best” and “let nature takes its course” can be translated into all languages for very good reason. From a wellness perspective: Nature DOES know best, and if you let nature takes its course, it always does the greatest good for you. The natural, the ways and laws of nature does not need “research” to support it because it natural. Also, when you see “natural ingredients” on a product that does not necessarily mean it is natural – Do your research!

Doing your own research takes time and energy, however, in the long run, it may save time because once you do the research you will become an expert in spotting many so-called scientific claims, marketing strategies, purpose, target audience, and profit seeking (or non-profit seeking groups) that have certain agendas.

I was out with my two friends Jessica and Nadine just running errands.  Nadine is an artist of many talents and always finds beauty and interest wherever she is.  She noticed the sky and said she wished she could capture a picture of it because the gradient of colors silhouetted the trees so dramatically.

Luckily, I take my camera with me wherever I go!

I have found aromatherapy to be an invaluable tool with our pets. We have miniature horses, an adorable dog, cat and 2 silkie chickens and our latest edition 5 big chooks, whom are laying almost every day. you cannot beat  your own chickens eggs, they are so yummy & of course their diet will have an impact on the quality.

I find that our horses respond very well to alternate medicines. I have personally treated our horses for wounds, punctures, agitation( when they moved from the city to the country), ticks, and colds.  Horses are easy to work with as they will soon let you know there likes and dislikes when working with essentials oils .

One of my horses at a young age developed warts on his nose! Poor darling when one first appeared I thought it was a tick and tried to pull it out! you can imagine the response I received. Well once he had forgiven me which didn’t take to long I was able to apply tea tree directly on to the wart. I applied tea tree a couple of times a day and approximately 2 weeks later they were gone.

Tip- use olive oil to take off your eye make-up.

How?  -        Dampen a cotton ball / pad with a little water, tip a small amount of olive oil on to the cotton ball, close your eye and gently wipe off make-up. If you have alot of eye make up on you may need to do this twice. This is a very safe and gentle way of removing your eye make-up naturally.

Step 1) Stop rewarding manufacturers of processed foods, junk foods, sodas and pharmaceuticals. Simply refuse to buy their products.
