(OK, that kind of sounds like a comeback).

So when the rapper, author, label boss, Grammy host and star of ratings juggernaut NCIS: LA sat down with Canada.com, we were curious about who of his fellow long-in-the-tooth actors he feels would make a great rapper?

“Denzel [Washington] would have been cool,” LL (whose moniker stands for Ladies Love Cool James) told us. Though he added that he thinks it might be a little late in the game for the 58-year-old Oscar winner.

Instead, the buff thespian who began his acting career in the 1986 football film Wildcats chose foul-mouthed 64-year-old Samuel L. Jackson as his final answer.

“Sam Jackson, hell of a rapper!” he exclaimed, before quoting a section of Jackson’s famous biblical monologue from Pulp Fiction.

Cool J also spoke about teasing his NCIS: LA costar Chris O’Donnell about his past as Robin in both of director Joel Schumacher’s widely panned  Technicolor Batman films.

“I give him the Blackman and Robin thing all of the time.”

 LL Cool J will release his 14th new studio album, Authentic, on April 30, 2013.

The Grey’s Anatomy and 24 actress will play Special Agent Paris, the athletic, smart, witty and bold leader of the Red team. Paris has a Degree in Forensic Science, can drive a golf ball 300 yards and has a brain snapping IQ in the 98th percentile. She prefers to, and often does, work alone.

We’ll get our first glimpse of the spin-off — in which a mobile team of agents live and work together as they cross the country solving crimes — when it airs as a two-part episode of NCIS: LA later this season.

Anytime we watch an action movie, I always go off on a tangent, I thought I would share. This week, we watched Taken 2 and The Bourne Legacy, we also recently saw Jack Reacher in the movie theatre (and since I have read 7 of the books).

Here’s my beef

The main characters are all kick asser’s. They are perfect shots. They take out the bad guys in one shot or one good punch. But something always seems to happen in their “big” scene. There is epic music and all of a sudden their shots are off and they can’t aim at all.

Here is Nikita, she can typically take men out in one punch, but not here…and she weighs about 80 lbs…sometimes it just is so unbelievable.

In the final fight scene of Taken 2, Liam Neeson is fighting a guy about 2 feet shorter than he is. There is epic music playing and it takes him a good 5 minutes to knock the guy out…yet all during the movie, he is a one shot man.

Here is a scene from Hawaii 5-0 where Intense Steve can’t seem to get off a good shot (and yet, not bystanders are hurt)

Am I the only one out there that notices this?

Miguel Ferrer who has been recurring on NCIS: Los Angeles the past few seasons will be upgraded to a regular come season 5, and will also be a regular on the new spinoff, should it be ordered to series.

January started off really well, with me reading through the first 84 pages of The Man of My Dreams in the first week, but then I failed, and did no more for the rest of the month. I have no excuses.

I’m hoping February is going to go better, and it’s starting pretty ok – I’ve just done the next 10 pages (30 minutes). It’s not a whole lot, and I got totally into it, so felt like I could have carried on going, but I want to do a blog, and I need to do some ironing, and want to watch another NCIS: Los Angeles.

One of the Sky channels is showing the first few series of it during the day. I made the mistake of series linking it, because I’d never seen or heard of it, and I love the original NCIS, so wanted to see what it’s about. What I didn’t realise was that they were showing 2 episodes a day – so the sky box got pretty full pretty quickly. And I didn’t notice.

It got to the point it was full and wouldn’t record any more. So we started watching it. And must admit got massively into it. Which is my very long way of saying this is what’s coming between me and this first read through of my novel.

Well, that and in the last week I’ve read 2 really, really good books (Deliruim by Lauren Oliver and Sister by Rosamund Lupton), and when I’m reading a good published book, it’s hard to make myself put that down and read my, rough, first draft novel. Very hard.

So, instead of picking up another novel, I’m not going to, and I’m going to crack on with reading mine. Of course it’s harder to read on the tube going to work, because it’s A4, it’s not stapled togetehr, and Im trying to make notes on it, but tough.

I had some goals for RWO80 this week, this is what they are and how I did, and why not throw in what I’m doing this week for a goal on each one too:

Edit TMOMD for 7 Hours: I’ve done half an hour today. It’s bad, but it’s better than nothing, which I’d done the last few weeks. Next week: 15 minutes editing a day. I’m reducing it to try to get me working on it. 15 minutes is so little, I could just start it and be done before I know. Hopefully though, starting 15 minutes will make me do more. It’s my test mile…

Writing course – 2 hours: None. Oops. Next week: Same, 2 hours over the whole week. Hoping one day I’ll hit this.

2 Book revies: Done. One on here – You Had Me At Hello by Mhairi McFarlene, and The Girl You Left Behind by Jojo Moyes for Novelkicks.co.uk. I’m not sure if the review of TGYLB is suitable for NK, it’s got a lot of me in it, so maybe it should be on here. I’ll let Laura decide. Next week: I’m still behind on reviews from last year, so lets say 2 again.

2 ROW80 Check-ins: Today, check, but missed Wednesday because I was out at my bookclub. Yes, I could have done it when I got in, but didn’t. I’ll try harder next week. And, Next week’s goal: 2 check ins.

Burn 1,500 calories (on top of normal walking to work etc): I haven’ t worked this out yet. It won’t be 1,500 calories though. Maybe just below 1,000? Don’t know. Next week: 1,500 calories again, including 1x visit to the gym.

3 fasting days for diet: I only managed one. Next week, just 2 days.

My ROW80 buddy Laura tried to push me to write on Friday, but I was out in the pub. This week, I’m going to get in the habit of checking in with her, someone to be responsible to each day helps me to write, or in this case, hopefully edit.

And that’s exactly what US broadcaster CBS has done by ordering an 11th season of crime procedual NCIS for 2013/14.

The deal also renews the network’s contract with NCIS star and executive producer Mark Harmon.

In its tenth season this year, the show is averaging 21.48 million viewers.

Furthermore, it is sold to more than 200 territories around the world, including M6 in France, Rai2 in Italy, TV3 in Sweden, LaSexta in Spain, Network Ten in Australia and Sat1 in Germany.

Harmon, Gary Glasberg, Chas Floyd Johnson, Mark Horowitz, Shane Brennan, George Schenck, Frank Cardea and Donald P Bellisario executive produce NCIS for Belisarius Productions in association with CBS Television Studios.

NCIS currently has one spin-off on air, NCIS: Los Angeles, which will have its own spin-off piloted ahead of the fall 2013 season.

That creates problems in Tuesday’s episode, when he comes to aid of a woman, played by Kathleen Robertson (Boss), whose windshield is being bashed in by a crazed homeless person with a long history of violence.

What happens from there is a little predictable and trite, though no more predictable or trite than an average episode of CSI from the current season.

The real reason to watch Cracked, and what may earn it pickup for a second season once these first 13 episodes have aired, is the acting.

As the title suggests, Cracked is a character study of one man’s struggle with post-traumatic stress disorder. And while Cracked has a credible ensemble cast in supporting roles — Stefanie von Pfetten as the departmental psychiatrist who’s both minder and Aidan’s partner-in-crime-fighting; Luisa D’Oliveira as the young, ambitious detective looking for advancement, etc. — it’s Sutcliffe who must shoulder most of Cracked’s burden.

Sutcliffe, who played the recurring role of Lauren Graham’s ex-husband for seven seasons on the late, lamented family drama Gilmore Girls, has an easy, understated presence. He underplays rather than overplays, which is fitting for a character whose deepest wounds are on the inside, not where everyone can see them.

Tuesday’s episode touches on a number of mental-health issues, from survivor guilt to inappropriate behaviour in the workplace to that old reliable, sexual attraction between consenting adults — the emphasis on consenting.

If much of the background on-the-job detail seems realistic, that’s because Cracked’s co-creator and lead consultant is Calum de Hartog, one of about 100 officers with Toronto’s Emergency Task Force, a kind of real-life Flashpoint rapid response team. In his police career de Hartog has talked emotionally disturbed people out of committing suicide, served high-risk arrest warrants and was one of the officers on the scene at last summer’s Toronto Danzig St. block party in which two people died and more than 20 others wounded.

While some of Tuesday’s episode’s plot twists rely too heavily on coincidence — what are the odds, you may find yourself asking — Cracked is still is a reasonably engaging hour of entertainment. It gets the background details right, and Sutcliffe is believable in the part, even if the story isn’t always believable. (CBC, 9 ET/PT)

Three to See

• Never mind Danzig St. The ever-cheerful Rick Mercer takes in a sunnier side of TO with a Rick Mercer Report in which the restless raconteur feels the magic of Toronto’s Famous People Players theatre company and gets jiggy with their black light show. Now we’re talkin’. (CBC, 8 ET/PT)

• Will the mysteries never end? BBM figures show that NCIS: Los Angeles scored more than 2.5 million viewers and was the second most-watched program on Canadian TV over Christmas week — behind NCIS. So somebody must be watching this thing. In Tuesday’s outing, Callen (Chris O’Donnell) infiltrates a network of Chechen terrorists who are recruiting foreign fighters to join their just and noble cause, which involves attacking U.S. interests and giving the infidels what for. At least their ringleader isn’t Canadian. (Global, CBS, 9 ET/PT, 10 MT)

• The often nostalgic if occasionally superficial Pioneers of Television looks back in fondness at TV’s superheroes of yesteryear, and makes one weep for the days when Batman was played by Adam West and not that scruffy, woe-is-me, post-millennial Hamlet wannabe. Who, having seen her, can ever forget Julie Newmar as Catwoman. Little known fact: After playing Catwoman for two seasons Newmar stepped down, to be replaced by the great Eartha Kitt for the third and final year. Oh, those were the days. (PBS, 8 ET/PT)
