We don’t really ‘get’ Thanksgiving here in Britain. I’m slowly coming to the conclusion that it outranks Christmas, and I’d say that the NCIS team’s eagerness to escape having a case to solve over Thanksgiving suggests that it is important.

It was another child and family and sweetness episode in Child’s Play this week. I may be a soppy old fool, but I like those. And the togetherness of having turkey as a team is rather sweet. I wonder when Ducky will be allowed to admit that his mother is dead? I don’t mean that our favourite ME is hiding a dead mother, but as the actress has been dead for a year now, we could perhaps move on from the ‘home’?

Clever children; are they ever as clever as the one in this episode? She was a match for Gibbs, and more than up to an elevator discussion, and she could analyse Ducky as well as he could her.

After last week’s power failure left NCIS staff using autopsy as a fridge, it’s a short jump to storing turkeys as well. At least if you’re Ducky.

McGee’s weight loss makes me green with envy. I hope it wasn’t just for the Thanksgiving excesses. Di Nozzo had cause to regret his excessive eating during the very Gibbsy car drive, and really did go green.

Abby wore an absolutely fabby dress, and I’m sure her cranberry sauce was almost as good as mine…

Happy Slapsgiving, or Thanksgiving everyone.  At this time every year the writers of JoeOnTheTube get together in one post and talk about what they are thankful for as far as TV goes.  I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

DarinIsLost-

• I’m thankful for Lost.  It has survived long enough to come to its natural conclusion.  Most serialized TV shows get cancelled before their time and an ending is simply fabricated.  Let’s hope they end this right.
• I’m thankful for being able to pause live TV.  I can start an American Idol results show 2/3 of the way through, skip past all of the filler and still catch the ending right along with the rest of the world.

JoanieCan’tDance-

• This year I am thankful for Psych, How I Met Your Mother, The Office & 30 Rock for making me laugh; All the Real Housewife’s for sharing all the crazy drama; and to SYTYCD for the entertainment. I am also thankful for my DVR. Without you, I would never get to enjoy all of my favorite shows.

Morate-

• The return of Curb Your Enthusiasm. The near-heroic levels of sarcasm on this show warm my heart. It’s been nice to see the Seinfeld cast again too, but Larry’s the true star of the show.
• I’m not sure who gave the programming controls to the Metalheads out there, but I’d like to buy them a shot of Jagermeister. VH1’s That Metal Show and Fuse’s Talking Metal are standouts of the resurgence. Rawk!
• Via Netflix, I’m catching up on Dexter. I totally missed it the first time around due to my lack of Showtime. This show is dark and dirty, and did I mention the main character has very few redeeming qualities? I can see why the networks were so afraid of this show. Dig it.
• The wife is thrilled to have a second helping of So You Think You Can Dance this fall. And, as you married guys know, it’s good to have a happy wifey.

Her & Him-

• HER: Tony’s truth serum induced rescue of Ziva on the season opener of NCIS.
  HIM: I absolutely love NCIS. The season opening was pretty great.
• HER: The Good Wife.
  HIM: Have never seen The Good Wife – don’t need to, I already have one. (Love ya babe)
• HER: Tom DeLay’s broken whatever that finally bumped him off Dancing With the Stars since the judges were apparently too dumbstruck by his ridiculous old man Republican hip shakin’ booty to do it.
  HIM: Ok, I’ll say it, I’m ok watching Dancing With the Stars – the women’s dance outfits are worth the time.
• HER: My husband doesn’t watch NASCAR.
  HIM: I don’t get NASCAR – go straight, turn left, go straight, turn left – um, ok?!
• HER: Phineas and Ferb.
  HIM: Phineas and Ferb
• HER: My daughter has finally outgrown Noggin.
  HIM: Unfortunately, she’s picked up watching videos on CMT with her mom. :-/
• HER: PBS.
  HIM: PBS is now on our radar again.
• HER: There are only a few weeks when the Mavericks and the Rangers overlap. Even fewer since the Rangers blew the last half of the season.  (I’m not saying I’m thankful the Rangers blew the last half of the season. I was rooting for them. But come on, how freaking long can one season be? Oh wait, that question can be answered by the NBA.)
  HIM: Yep, I love watching sports on TV
• HER: Grey’s Anatomy is good again.
  HIM: Grey’s Anatomy is good again.
• HER: That we only have one TV in our house and I am frequently reminded of the depths of my husband’s love. Case in point – last night, he watched Donnie Osmond take home the Glitter Ball trophy on Dancing With the Stars, even though the Mav’s were playing.  I’ll return the favor, of course, when I watch seven football games with him on Sunday. But that’s why God created DVR. Which I’m also thankful for.
  HIM: Yep, I love watching sports on TV

• I’m thankful for my wife, who let’s me watch as much TV as I want.  I’m thankful for my newborn son whom I look forward to imparting my love of TV on, but I promise to make sure he goes outside and plays as well.
• I’m thankful that Ed O’Neill and Katey Sagal, or Peg and Al Bundy one of the most iconic married couples in the history of television, have found home on two of the best shows on TV.
• I’m thankful for the two best new shows of the season, Modern Family and Glee.
• I’m thankful for HBO and their wonderful shows True Blood, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Big Love, Bored To Death, The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency,and of course the upcoming mini-series The Pacific.
• I’m thankful that AMC has started producing quality television that rivals any other network on TV, including HBO.  Mad Men and Breaking Bad are both amazing.
• I’m thankful that Kurt Sutter created the world of Sons of Anarchy, and took us along for the ride.  As season two comes to an end I can honestly say that I believe it is currently the best hour of TV on.
• I’m thankful for the great people who write for this blog.  You make my life easier, and I really appreciate it.
• I’m thankful for this blog and all its readers.  When I started this thing about a year and a half ago I never imagined that anyone aside from a few of my friends and family would read it.  This month we’ve had over 30,000 visitors, and that blows my mind.  We have some big changes coming up, and I hope that everyone keeps coming back.  As long as you are reading we will be watching.

I’m not a big television viewer. Generally,my television viewing could be described as NCIS, The Penguins of Madagascar, a potpourri of sporting events with an episode of Criminal Minds  here and there. Oh and reruns of JAG and Walker, Texas, Ranger. But, for those inclined to watch  a bit more often, have I got  a show for  you.

However, to get the full benefit of this  ABC special, airing on December 13, it is absolutely imperative that one   has  a big screen set. If ever there were a program geared for big screen, high-definition, this is it. There are no actors, per se, on this  special. And, one of the biggest stars of the program is  a house, the White House. What it is, is “Christmas at the White House, An Oprah Primetime Special.” You know  someone is  a really big media star when Christmas and the White House both get to share a title with them.

Anyway, the program will feature a tour  of the House, a conversation with the  Obamas, a behind the scenes  look at decorating the House and an interview with the President. Among the interesting facets of this event are the fact that Oprah rarely does  such specials and been virtually  invisible vis-a-vis the First Family since the election. And during the election, she was quite visible, as you will remember.

So, since  Oprah did not even attend the first state dinner, featuring the Prime Minister of India, Manmahon Singh, they will have many things to discuss. Example: How  did that Palin interview go and did you really read her book? Oprah could counter with a question about job openings in the Administration and how is it being  a Senator from Illinois? I might like to try that before running for a higher office. Good thing this show will be televised from  a large facility. Don’t know if she and Michele could co-exist in closed quarters.

So, remember, Sunday, December 10 at 10:00 pm on ABC.  Your celebration of the season will be incomplete  if you miss it. ( You think Gayle King filled Oprah in on the state dinner happenings?)

Finalmente! Depois de quedas consecutivas desde o piloto, ‘V’, da ABC, finalmente parou de cair. Coincidência ou não, foi a despedida da série de 2009. ‘V’ só volta em março na emissora.

Chamada de fall finale por sua despedida, o quarto episódio de ‘V’ fez a mesma demo da semana passada: 3.1 pontos, e atraiu 9.2 milhões de telespectadores.

A ABC levou ao ar uma promo da série, avisando que o sci-fi volta em março, dando fim a dúvida de fãs desavisados que não sabiam se a série havia sido renovada ou não.

Com o bom desempenho de ‘V’, a ABC ganhou a noite na demo qualificada, e a CBS levou a melhor no total de telespectadores.

A parte 2 da finale de ‘Dancing With the Stars’ foi muito bem: 19.2 milhões de telespectadores e 4.3 pontos na demo qualificada 18-49. Apesar disso, a audiência foi 18% menor que a finale da temporada passada.

Mesmo com a competição forte, a CBS também foi muito bem com as exibições de ‘NCIS’ (20.3 milhões e 4.4 pontos) em alta de 7%, ‘NCIS: LA’ (17.2 milhões e 4.3 pontos) com sua melhor audiência desde o piloto e um crescimento de 26% em relação a semana passada, e ‘The Good Wife’ (12.5 milhões e 2.8 pontos) em alta de 8%.

Já ‘Biggest Loser’ na NBC fez 9 milhões e 3.5 pontos, caindo 5%. ‘The Jay Leno Show’ fechou a noite da emissora com 4.9 milhões e 1.9 ponto.

‘So You Think You Can Dance’ da Fox fechou com 5.4 milhões e 2.1 ponto, queda de 13%.

• Il palinsesto FOX per il 2010
  La FOX ha annunciato il suo nuovo palinsesto per la seconda parte di questa stagione televisiva che inizierà martedì 12 gennaio con la nuova edizione di American Idol.
  • Lunedì: 24 inizierà la sua ottava stagione domenica 18 gennaio e lunedì 17 gennaio con due doppi episodi. Dal lunedì 25 gennaio tornerà poi Dr.House alle ore 20.00, seguito da un episodio della serie con Kiefer Sutherland.
  • Martedì: il 12 gennaio inizia American Idol. Il nuovo game Our Little Genius debutterà mercoledì 13 gennaio dopo il talent show e si sposterà dalla settimana succesiva al martedì andando avanti per circa tre mesi. Dal 13 aprile tornerà, dopo una pausa di quattro mesi, Glee con la seconda parte della stagione (la serie verrà quindi spostata di giorno). La cosa non dovrebbe far temere per gli ascolti, visto il forte traino, ed era necessaria per permettere a Ryan Murphy di dedicarsi al suo nuovo film dal titolo Eat, Pray, Love girato in parte anche in Italia e che vede la presenza nel cast di Julia Roberts, James Franco e Javier Bardem.
  • Mercoledì: dopo American Idol arriva dal 20 gennaio Human Target interpretata da Mark Valley (Fringe) e basata sull’omonimo fumetto DC. La serie partirà domenica 17 alle ore 20.00, dopo la partita NFC, e sarà seguita dai primi due episodi dell’ottava stagione di 24.
  • Giovedì: continua l’accoppiata Bones/Fringe. Il telefilm di J.J. Abrams, nonostante i bassi ascolti e le richieste dei fan di spostarlo di giorno, rimarrà quindi nella sua collocazione. La serie si fermerà comunque il 4 febbraio e tornerà giorno 1 aprile. Durante questa pausa andrà in onda la serie thriller Past Life.
  • Venerdì: continua Dollhouse che si concluderà il 22 gennaio per lasciare poi posto al reality Kitchen Nightmares.
  • Domenica: la serie comedy Sons of Tucson, creata dal vincitore di un Emmy Todd Holland (Waterfalls), debutterà il 14 marzo. La serie racconta di questi tre ragazzini che “assumono” un affascinante imbroglione come loro padre quando quello vero finisce in prigione.
  • Il 10 gennaio andrà in onda il 450° episodio de I Simpson intitolato “Once Upon a Time in Springfield” seguito dallo speciale The Simpsons 20th Anniversary Special: in 3-D! on Ice! che conclude la celebrazione dei 20 anni della serie.

  Rimangono fuori palinsesto, per ora, Lie to Me che ha avuto in questi giorni un ordine di altri nove episodi che completano la stagione e ‘Til Death – Per tutta la vita. Spunteranno eventualmente in midseason da qualche parte.

• “Burn Notice” avrà una quarta stagione
  Dopo la notizia di ieri di Psych, ora USA Network ufficializza anche l’ordine di una quarta stagione per Burn Notice – Duro a morire. A gennaio partirà la seconda parte della terza stagione in USA, mentre i sedici episodi della quarta inizieranno la prossima estate. La serie di azione e spionaggio vede la presenza nel cast di Jeffrey Donovan (Jarod il camaleonte), Gabrielle Anwar (I Tudors), Bruce Campbell (Hercules, Xena principessa guerriera) e Sharon Gless (New York, New York e Queer as Folk).
• “Curb Your Enthusiasm” chiude bene la stagione
  Curb Your Enthusiasm la serie televisiva comica statunitense HBO creata ed interpretata da Larry David ha chiuso domenica la settima stagione con 1,3 milioni. Il risultato migliora se si somma anche la replica, arrivando ad oltre due milioni. È il più alto risultato delle ultime cinque stagioni. Da notare infine che sommando i dati delle repliche, registrazioni e HBO On Demand questa stagione ha avuto una media di ben 5,1 milioni ad episodio.
• Arriva Eve a “Glee”
  Stasera andrà in onda in USA l’undicesimo episodio di Glee che vedrà in qualità di ospite la cantante/attrice Eve. Di seguito il trailer.

Yep, day # 2 of rest and relaxation; I’m so super-thrilled.  Unfortunately, my body clock kicked in at its normal time, 5:45, but I managed to stay in bed until 6:15 before I finally got up so that I wouldn’t be fidgety and Joey could sleep some more.

I’ve noticed over the past two days that daytime television totally sucks.  I know, primetime tv isn’t really that much better, but seriously.  Maury doesn’t come on until 1 pm anymore, and that’s a long time to wait and see “who’s the father?”

We put in some NCIS to enjoy while relaxing:

Shelli is in Joey’s lap.  That’s a new blog that I’ve been reading, Vegan Hope.  It’s pretty interesting; the author writes about her own personal experience of recovery from severe diabetes through a vegan diet.  There’s a lot to chew on in this blog, folks, and I really recommend that you check it out.

I’m almost done with the cowl that’s pictured…I’ll probably go another round or two and then bind off.  I intended to finish it last night, but I fell asleep while Joey was waiting for some crops to harvest on Farmville.  I’ve got four hats to work on next, so I need to get on the stick!

On the docket for today?  A trip to Aldi to get some stuff for the week and for dinner tonight.  I’m making a vegetarian mini-Thanksgiving for Cory, who’ll be spending the afternoon/evening hanging with us.  I’m probably also going to make some more stuff to bring with me for tomorrow since I’m thinking that I might need to have some more veg options.

Igår passade jag på att bläddra igenom bloggen efter att ha publicerat mitt inlägg om Ullared och insåg att det har blivit en hel del serierekommendationer här i bloggen. Därför tänkte jag ändra på det idag genom att rekommendera en film, något som visade sig vara bra mycket svårare än vad jag räknat med.

Efter att ha gått igenom TV-tablån ett flertal så hittar jag endast två filmer på samtliga kanaler som inte är filmkanaler och båda dessa två sänds på SVT1. Först har vi Människors rike tidigt på eftermiddagen och därefter följer Paradise now på kvällen. En film som överraskade mig positivt när jag såg den.

I serieväg så har vi åter igen en storkväll där det visas NCIS, NCIS: LA, House och Desperate housewives. Där utöver har vi en mängd matcher i kvällens Champions League och personligen så kommer jag vara klistrad framför FC Barcelona – Inter i hopp om att få se Zlatan göra mål på sin gamla klubb.

Handling för Paradise Now

Palestinsk-israelisk- fransk-tyskt drama från 2004. Said och Khaled är två palestinska män som är trötta på hopplösheten i konflikten mellan Israel och Palestina. De beslutar sig för att ta saken i egna händer och bli självmordsbombare. Filmen handlar om de 24 timmarna före attentatet då de, med bomben runt magen, inför sina närmaste måste låtsas som att allt är som vanligt.

20:00 – Äntligen hemma på TV4
21:45 – Paradise Now på SVT1

P.S. – That last bit owes itself to a nifty little show called NCIS, a guilty pleasure for anyone of refined taste, but well worth it anyway for the cast. The cast has an amazing amount of chemistry for being in yet another csi rip-off, and the characters are so well realized that one wishes that NCIS had been the first, and not CSI.

Lo show, che ieri aveva tra gli ospiti Maria De Filippi, ha registrato 5 milioni 274mila telespettatori (21.56% di share), in calo di oltre un milione di telespettatori rispetto alla puntata precedente. Su Canale 5 la serie DISTRETTO DI POLIZIA 9 è stata seguita da 4 milioni 58mila telespettatori (18.49%).

Su Raidue ottimi ascolti per i telefilm NCIS UNITA’ ANTICRIMINE, che ha registrato 3 milioni 66mila telespettatori (11.47%) e CRIMINAL MINDS, seguito da 3 milioni 418mila telespettatori (12.69%). Su Raitre la trasmissione REPORT, condotta da Milena Gabanelli, ha ottenuto 2 milioni 842mila telespettatori (11.47%). Su Italia 1 l’ultima puntata di COLORADO ha totalizzato 2 milioni 335mila telespettatori (11.48% ) mentre su Retequattro il film DON CAMILLO è stato visto da 1 milione 880mila telespettatori (7.90%).

In access prime time AFFARI TUOI ha ottenuto 5 milioni 467mila telespettatori, invece STRISCIA LA DOMENICA ha registrato 4 milioni 956mila telespettatori. CHE TEMPO CHE FA con Fabio Fazio è stato visto da 4 milioni 117mila telespettatori.

Now before I explain what on earth that means, I must give credit where credit is due – to an amazing friend – for leveraging his Zha method “DO” (“Just do it” was already taken by Nike). 

Ok. So my mantra has always been “everything happens for a reason“. People say it, but do they always meant it? I think not. They just seem to pay lip service to it mainly. Me on the other hand, am a staunch believer.  I can provide x number of personal examples, and I probably will as part of my new blogging career.

This mantra is now accompanied by “BE & DO“. ”Everything happens for a reason” implies that your future is already mapped out for you - I don’t believe that for one bit. Almost to the point of why do anything if it’s already decided for you. Now I’m going to quote a bit from one of my fave shows NCIS here (the one with the Nth Korean assassin bird for any avid followers):

“Anyone can achieve their fullest potential. Who we are might be predetermined, but the path we follow is always of our own choosing. We should never allow our fears or the expectations of others to set the frontiers of our destiny. Your destiny can’t be changed but it can be challenged. Every man is born as many men and dies as a single one.”  

Hence the “BE & DO”  – you choose your path. Kinda like those books you used to read in primary school from the “Choose your own adventure” series.

I wrote an email explaining this new found philosophy to a friend in the very early hours of this morning when I couldn’t sleep, which stemmed from an earlier discussion about the heart vs head conflict. And so here’s the (edited) excerpt:

“…If she’s really, TRULY honest w/ herself, she already knows the answer. & it’s what her heart says- the head is just being a pain in the ass & is getting in the way :p

So go w/ gut feeling. To cut it short – “be”, then “do” (haha). Note there’s no “think” involved.

Based on my recent experience – & only further reinforced from my reading – listening to your head just obstructs the simple answer which already exists. It only brings in hypotheticals (“what ifs?”) & feelings of obligation or social expectations (“i shoulds”). Past experiences, fears, insecurities etc all come into play also.

Your heart on the other hand, isn’t tempered by all that crap. (sorry, too early to think in eloquent terms!). It just KNOWS & bases its decision on a feeling, instinct, of what feels right vs doesn’t.

& when it comes down to it, it’s the heart which represents the REAL us (“be”)- not the head. The head is just weighed down by EXTERNAL influences- experience, social expectations, upbringing, environment. Such influences HELP to define us, but they don’t DEFINE who we are.

So remove the thinking process, & voila. As hard as it may be, always follow your heart because it knows best.

It’s now my new approach to life. I used to be all thought, too much inaction. Now i just “be & do”. Fearless, instead of fearful…”

It’s amazing what you come up with when you’re begging yourself to nod off to sleep!

IERI SERA… Cala di un milione di spettatori rispetto a domenica scorsa nonostante l’ospitata a sorpresa di Maria De Filippi, ma vince ancora una volta la serata della domenica, il varietà di RaiUno “Grazie a tutti” con Gianni Morandi e Alessandra Amoroso, che con i suoi 5,2 milioni supera i due episodi inediti della serie italiana di Canale 5 “Distretto di Polizia 9″ con Simone Corrente. Nettamente sopra i 3,2 milioni di spettatori medi la serata poliziesca inedita di RaiDue con episodi dei telefilm “NCIS – Unità anticrimine” e “Criminal Minds”; circa 2,8 milioni per il programma di RaiTre “Report” con Milena Gabanelli, cala a 2,3 milioni invece l’ultima puntata di tre ore con il meglio del varietà comico di Italia 1 “Colorado” con Nicola Savino e Rossella Brescia; infine, il film commedia di Rete 4 “Don Camillo” con Fernandel e Gino Cervi, e il film drammatico di La 7 “Il giorno della civetta” con Claudia Cardinale (con 677.000 spettatori – 2,87%). Bene sui canali sportivi pay l’incontro di calcio Juventus – Udinese, posticipo serale di Serie A terminato sul punteggio di 1-0.

Well hello everyone it is almost 9 and I am heading to bed after a long day that you can read about here. I checked out a few forums this one about the Good Day LA and the consensus there is pretty much the same as everywhere else.  Mark was great the hosts not so much.  There is some apprehension about tomorrow’s appearance because they are certain (and I agree) that it will be more of the same.  “How does it feel to be one of the Sexiest Men alive?” and probably about his marriage to Pam and how it is to work on the show (oh fair warning?) The phrase “the little engine that could” seems to be wearing thin with Mr. Harmon as he alluded to in the most recent interview.

Speaking of tomorrows’ appearance I have the VCR set up to tape the show.  It will be on the WFSB CBS affiliate out of Hartford but obviously they filmed it in Las Vegas. 

I am going to find some of the photos from the Episode Faith with Mark and Ralph Wait.  I would like to add them to the growing file I have for the show.

I was waiting to see if the sudden interest in Abby Sciuto’s tattoos would vane with the passing of Halloween. Not entirely, I’m glad to say. The total madness of people’s Halloween tattoo needs has passed, but the true Abby fan will always want to check out her tattoos.

Most of these are from season 6 episode 21, Toxic. It’s an Abby episode, so good for tattoo hunting. We may fear for her safety, but that girl can look after herself.

This one is pretty old now, from season 3, the fourth episode called Silver War. McGee gets a good look at Abby’s back.

And finally here is one which is Pauley Perrette (it can be hard to differentiate between them sometimes) in civilian clothes, sort of.
