R&B superstar Ne-Yo, has split from his girlfriend Tenille, although the reason for the break-up is unknown. They looked cute together, whilst it lasted and she was holding off those gay rumours rather well don’t you think?

Girl mus’ have been dippin’ that ish low on a regular, ‘cos word is, Ne-Yo bought Tenille a car and a fat crib AFTER they broke up!! Alright for gold-diggers some.

Ne-Yo did however, bring a female friend along for the AMAs red carpet treatment Sunday night…

Interesting.

Grammy-award winner Ne-Yo is set to perform at The Pearl Concert Theater in the Palms Casino Resort on Jan. 1. 

In 2006, Ne-Yo hit the R&B scene with a style all his own – a mix of classic sounds with a modern twist. His debut album, In My Own Words, hit #1 on the Billboard 200 and solidified his role as an artist to watch. The Las Vegas singer’s sophomore album, Because of You (2007), also peaked at #1 on the Billboard 200 and brought Ne-Yo much acclaim when he won Best Contemporary R&B Album at the 2007 Grammy Awards. 

With Ne-Yo’s third DVD, The Year of the Gentleman, the Las Vegas native and premier songwriter has constructed a suite of songs that shows exactly what he means by class. Written over the course of travels through Europe and his own fascination with the hometown boys known as the Rat Pack, Ne-Yo explains, “For me, the sharpness of Sammy and Sinatra is the kind of style I strive for in clothes and music. Year of the Gentleman is named in honor of those guys.”

According to YBF, Ne-Yo and his longtime girlfriend, Tennille Jimenez, have split up. It appears that the R&B singer’s camp has kept the situation under wraps. Apparently, the two have been broken up ever since August.

Even though the couple has broken up, it is said that the two remain on good terms with one another. It was reported that Ne-Yo gave her a condo and a car after the break up. Ne-Yo was said to have been dating the girl long before he rose to fame in 2006. Throughout his career, there have been questions of his sexuality.

Despite all of the questions about Ne-Yo’s sexuality, some in the past have tried to say that he had a romantic relationship with Rihanna. Time and time, Ne-Yo has used his girlfriend as proof that he is not with Rihanna and that he is not gay. Now that she is gone, these rumors and many more will probably become more and more abundant.

This breakup gives Ne-Yo more time to focus on working on projects from Keri Hilson, Usher, and his own new album that is coming in 2010.

The race is over and I survived!

Today I reached an unbelievable personal goal, completing a half-marathon after about two months of training. I started on this project as both a personal challenge, and as a way to inspire people through the American College of Endocrinology Power of Prevention program. Along the way, I have heard from so many of you who are following my progress, have been inspired yourselves, or who are just rooting me on to success. On this Thanksgiving Day, I have to tell you all how grateful I am for all of your support.  What started out as a project to inspire others has certainly changed my life, and a significant part of that comes from all of you.

Now, on to race day.

First, a brief note.  I did not run with my iPhone, so I did not take any pictures.  Sarah took some, and I will work to add them later in the day.

So, I guess the story begins with dinner last night. My good friend Britt has been following my progress in this training regimen, and was sorry to tell me that he would not be able to come out to the run and see me finish, due to the fact he is out of town today. But he did offer to help me carbo load the night before. So last night our two families went out and enjoyed a delicious Italian dinner. In fact, I had to stop loading because I was too full. (I had an awesome shrimp alfredo Sicilian style pizza. Pictures forthcoming as well. I promise you will be jealous).

I got home and had a good night’s sleep.  This morning when I woke up, my number one priority was my pre-race preparations. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, go here to get up to speed, but suffice it to say, I was very nervous about making sure this was not a problem today.

Not joking, I resorted to jumping jacks in the living room, but it all came out fine in the end (did I really just type that?)

Sarah and I headed out to the run at about 6:45.  Race time was 8:00, but we wanted to get a decent parking spot and I also wanted to do a mile pre-run before the race to get loosened up.

People up north can complain about this next sentence, but it was cold this morning.  It was probably only 50 degrees when we got to the race site. I was not concerned about the race, because I know how much I heat up when I am running, but I was definitely freezing waiting for the race to start.

Sarah and our friend Melissa were running the 6k at the same time.  The starting line and starting time were the same, so we got “in the blocks” together and waited for the run to begin. After a pre-recorded National Anthem from Lee Ann Rhimes, the race was set to begin.

We had positioned ourselves towards the middle of the group.  We knew we were not fast enough to be in the front, but did not want to get stuck behind the walkers in the back, either. The gun sounded and we were off.  It took about a minute or so to cross the starting line. I’m glad this was a chip race, because I’m interested to see how off my chip time is from the race time. The first mile was the typical jockeying for position that you see at any race. I tried to keep my pace slow and steady, but it is definitely hard with the adrenaline of all the other runners around you.

Around mile one, the course split for the 1/2 marathoners and the 6k, so the crowds thinned considerably at that point. It was about this time that I realized I had forgotten to start the timer on my watch. This is a dual problem, because I had no way to track my time, and because it was not recording my heart rate (long time readers know that I have a history of overheating when not monitoring my heart rate closely). So I started the timer and hoped that at some point there would be a timer on the course that would allow me to get some idea of how I was doing.

The first course clock did not come until mile two.  The race time at that point was 19 minutes. That meant that even if I had been at the front of the pack, I was pacing at sub-ten minute miles. This was both exciting and troubling. Exciting, because I did not feel like I was moving at that pace and felt fairly good. Troubling because I was not sure I could maintain this pace for eleven more miles.

The next few miles were relatively uneventful. I was able to maintain that 9:30ish pace and was not feeling tired. One thing I did not do was take water at the water stations. I have learned from experience that I get bad cramping if I drink anything while running. I had tried to hydrate myself well before the race, and was banking on that being good enough.

The race was actually quite uneventful in general until about mile eight. Right about that time my feet began to really hurt, especially on the instep. I know that I am due for new shoes, but did not want to get them so close to race time. Many runners have told me that’s a recipe for disaster with blisters and real problems on race day. But what was a mild nuisance at mile eight had become a real pain by mile nine.

The mile nine refreshment center had something I can only refer to as runner’s goo. It came in a foil packet, and had the consistency of Vaseline.  But it tasted good, was packed with sugars and caffeine, and really gave me a bit of a boost when I really needed it.

By mile ten, I was in uncharted waters. Ten miles is the previous longest run I had ever done, and I still had a full 5k to go to finish. I resorted to counting miles, not in distance, but in songs. At my pace (I had slowed to about an even ten minute mile pace, by now) I knew it was about two and a half songs between miles. So I just focused on the music and plowed ahead.

At mile eleven, the pain in my feet moved to my calves. This was a new experience for me. Whenever I run, the only true obstacle is breathing. I never have physical pain in my legs that prohibits me from going forward. So this really caught me off-guard. I knew that I only had two miles to go, however, and was determined to power through it, no matter what.

At mile twelve, I could smell the finish line, and so could the rest of the group running at my pace. Everyone kicked it up a notch at that point. I did the same, despite what my legs were screaming to me (R-rated, can’t repeat here). That lasted maybe a quarter of a mile. That’s when I thought I was going to collapse. Despite the fact that I had made it more than twelve miles without stopping once, I had to stop and stretch out my legs, then walk for about 30 seconds. I regret this terribly, but really don’t think there was anything else I could do at that point.

Once I started back up again, I decided to keep the pace slower and just get to the finish line. Two songs later, I was crossing the thirteen mile marker. At this point I knew that I had a 1/10 mile sprint in me, so I kicked it in and raced to the finish line, passing up a couple of guys down the stretch!

I looked around for Sarah, who had finished the 6k about and hour and 20 minutes earlier, but could not see her anywhere. So I got some water and tried to work out my legs a little bit. About 7-8 minutes later Sarah spotted me in the crowd and came over. I had anticipated finishing between 2:15 and 2:30, so she had gone home and got the turkey and stuffing in the oven, then was going to come back and watch me finish and take some pictures. Since I beat my goal time by about eight minutes, she missed the finish.

She’s more upset about that than I am. I’m glad she came back at all, and I appreciated the support in any case.

So we met up with some friends and compared times, then headed over to get a banana… AND THEY WERE OUT! So I settled for some orange slices and a couple of Michelob Ultras. Sarah also grabbed an Ultra, that she was actually getting for me.

As we walked to the van, I saw a sign for a “Brazilian Honey Bakery”. Having no idea what in the world that is, we headed inside and asked the question “What in the world is a Brazilian Honey Bakery?” The proprietor proceeded to give me a sample of a cheese bread pastry, which was so good, I immediately ordered a dozen.

And with that, we packed into the van, and headed for home. I received all of your well wishes on email, Facebook, and Twitter. You really have no idea how much that means to me. I am thankful today for all of you who have supported me through this training, and I look forward to sharing with you my next plan…

No Rated R temos uma Rihanna mais dark e com batidas mais meio-tempo, nada romântico nem nada festão. A faixa inicial intitulada Mad House é basicamente um resumo de tudo o que você verá no álbum todo, a produção de Chase & Status já mostra os novos caminhos pra carreira da Rihanna, pelo menos por enquanto, algo mais eletrônico e completamente diferente do disco anterior. Da capa já notei semelhança com albuns de Michael Jackson e Madonna, uma tentativa de fazer um pop mais voltado pro rock e pro eletrônico, algo bem semelhante com Deadmau5, porém uma tentativa extremamente frustada.

Wait You Turn é como uma continuação de Mad House, enigmática e ao mesmo tempo frustante, o som apesar de tudo gruda na cabeça. Em Hard ela surge com Young Jeezy, fazendo algo mais R&B, os sons parecem um latino dark, ficou interessante, o vocal do Young Jeezy também não é dos melhores mas ficou muito bom, a faixa podería até fazer um bom sucesso se lançada pois atrairia o público da Rihanna que se interessava no Good Girl Gone Bad. Em Stupid Love temos aquela baladinha R&B clássica, nada muito original a lá Ne-Yo, a musica apesar disso também é interessante para single pois relembra canções anteriores da moça como o hit Take a Bow.

Rockstar 101 é a prova de que nem Slash salva Rihanna, a tentativa mais frustada do rock já ouvida por mim até agora, o vocal lembra Fergie do Black Eyed Peas quando também tenta ser roqueira (coisa que nenhuma das duas conseguiu até agora), a letra e título de Rockstar 101 são os mais broxantes possíveis, e Slash simplesmente saiu imperceptível na musica, os gritos de Oooh (possivelmente do produtor The Dream), parecidos com aqueles de Love In This Club de Usher, aparecem bem mais. Pra quem esperava algo como Give In To Me ou Black or White do Michael pode ir tirando o cavalinho da chuva.

Russian Roullete, primeiro single do disco, parece ser uma luz no fim do túnel. Não é uma grande música, mas pra mim é bem mais interessante que a grande maioria do álbum, talvez por isso a gravadora a tenha escolhido como primeiro single. A musica tenta passar a mesma imagem do resto do álbum, algo mais intimista, envolvente e que deveria levar o ouvinte a ultima faixa, mas não colou tanto. Apesar dos pesares a produção está bonita (tirando a bala final que é de matar mesmo) e os efeitos sonoros estão muito interessantes, o instrumental da musica é uma dos melhores já vistos em Rihanna. E por aí vai.

Fire Bomb é bonitinha,o que me intriga nela é o vocal que está incrivelmente parecido com o de Beyoncé no começo, talvez tenha até sido intencional, e o instrumental dá a sensação de ouvir Beyoncé cantando e tocando com a banda da Kelly Clarkson.

Rude Boy é aquele R&B chato, bem Shontelle, que só ouve quem gosta do gênero mesmo, a sensação de ouvir o gritinho do Chris Brown no fundo é inevitável, será que a musica foi pra ele também? Se foi a garota soube escolher bem, uma musica péssima pra expressar o que ela sente por ele. A letra é bem chata e a batida é bem festinha hip-hop mesmo.

Chegamos em Photographs e… Will.I.Am? O que ele faz aqui? Pois é, ele está pior que Timbaland e aparece no novo álbum da Rihanna também. A musica parece sobra do álbum da Cheryl Cole, um pop mais rosto a rosto e com batidinha mais acústica, não ficou muito interessante e desfocou um pouco do tema do álbum, além do mais parece igual a tudo o que o Will.I.Am produz, aliás, se eu não soubesse da produção dele e se o Will não cantasse na música eu já desconfiaria que a canção era produção dele, lembrei de Fergie e Cheryl Cole instantaneamente.

G4L é como um trêm voltando aos trilhos, legal que adorei a produção de Chase & Status no disco da Rihanna, a musica é fantástica e continua na linha forte do álbum, parece um pouco com Wait Your Turn mas tá valendo.

Te Amo é o momento bizarro do álbum, parece que ela tirou o figurino e a maquiagem e resolveu visitar a Shakira, o tema latino ficou extremamente bizarro perto das demais faixas do Rated R, ainda bem que esse susto ficou pro fim.

Cold Case Love é bem fria mesmo, mas isso tudo pareceu-me bem interessante, se fosse mais acapella teria sido até melhor, a musica meio acústica ficou suave e uma das mais fáceis de engolir do disco.

E pra fechar (finalmente!!!) temos The Last Song, uma baladinha que tenta pegar pelo emocional, mas depois de uma sequencia dessas fica até difícil de ser notada. A guitarra meio Carlos Santana ficou interessante. The Last Song cai muito bem para fechar o disco.

Então tá, quer dizer que não tenho uma Umbrella ou uma Don’t Stop The Music parte 2? Nem Disturbia parte 2? A resposta é não. Se você estava esperando algo parecido com o Good Girl Gone Bad você pode ir logo se decepcionando. Rihanna mudou completamente de estilo, o que é bom pois prova que ela não viverá só de passado. Veremos agora se ela vai se dar tão bem nos charts como no álbum anterior né… Duvido muito que a era de bandinhas emo cantando sucessos da Rihanna ainda volte.
Parabéns pra Rihanna, evolução musical completa, o álbum anterior era bem pobrinho mas esse veio pra marcar a carreira dela e abrir caminho pra novos fãs que se interessam nesse estilo mais eletrônico, mas falho, a tentativa não deu 100% e ela pode inclusive tropeçar.
Ps.: Umbrella é completamente viciante, apesar da letra pobre.

What a huge honor! I did not know Wheesung would get into the U.S. music industry this quick lol. but he’s really talented so I believe in him

On Sunday’s airing of Pops in Seoul’s “In the Booth With” segment, the loveable VJ Isak asked Wheesung about his upcoming US Debut. Check out what he had to say about recording his English debut album, Ne-Yo, and Michael Jackson.

On “In the Booth With,” VJ Isak interviewed Wheesung and asked him about his upcoming debut in the US. This is what he had to say…

Isak: I heard that you are bringing your music to the US, next year!”

Wheesung: “Yes! It’s an opportunity that just fell from the sky. The opportunity really came down from the heavens. I was very lucky. They called me first! A team that was planning a project wanted to invite an Asian singer to the US. They wanted me to be their first singer. So I told them that I couldn’t speak English, and that I was old…”

Isak: What does age have to do with it?!“…So I told them to think it over again and call me. They called me and said they thought it was fine and I said I would do it and thanked them. That’s what happened. I think I was very lucky. I’m very happy that I was so lucky”

Isak: Tell us about the story about you and Michael Jackson.

“I’m working with Ne-Yo and another producer on a song that was originally written for Michael Jackson.”

Isak: Wow, the song you will be recording? You’ll be in the US and singing in front of recognized R&B stars and will be recording music with them. Do you feel the weight on your shoulders?

“At first I thought it would be stressful but actually it wasn’t that hard, it’s strange. It’s more challenging for me to sing in Korea! But I’m starting something totally different so I think of it as a new chapter in my life.”

When OMGKPOP interviewed Wheesung earlier this year he said he had no plans to enter the US market, but with these preparations and such, it shows how quickly ones plans can change. Isak: I heard that you are bringing your music to the US, next year!”

Wheesung: “Yes! It’s an opportunity that just fell from the sky. The opportunity really came down from the heavens. I was very lucky. They called me first! A team that was planning a project wanted to invite an Asian singer to the US.  They wanted me to be their first singer. So I told them that I couldn’t speak English, and that I was old…”

Isak: What does age have to do with it?!

“…So I told them to think it over again and call me. They called me and said they thought it was fine and I said I would do it and thanked them.  That’s what happened. I think I was very lucky. I’m very happy that I was so lucky”

Isak: Tell us about the story about you and Michael Jackson.

“I’m working with Ne-Yo and another producer on a song that was originally written for Michael Jackson.”

Isak: Wow, the song you will be recording? You’ll be in the US and singing in front of recognized R&B stars and will be recording music with them. Do you feel the weight on your shoulders?

“At first I thought it would be stressful but actually it wasn’t that hard, it’s strange. It’s more challenging for me to sing in Korea! But I’m starting something totally different so I think of it as a new chapter in my life.” interviewed Wheesung earlier this year he said he had no plans to enter the US market, but with these preparations and such, it shows how quickly ones plans can change. Honestly I’m still a bit skeptical… not of Wheesung’s talent but just of the execution of the whole project. Thankfully Ne-Yo is an amazing producer so hopefully he’ll come through on that end. I’m hoping for the best because questionable fashion choices aside, Wheesung is one of the most talented r&b singers in Korea.

NEW KELIS!!! “Acapella” – Kelis is always opening herself up, musiclaly, to all things. She tries new beats, new chords, new visuals … it’s like a surprise party everytime another single of hers drops.

Keri Hilson – “I Like” – Besides the fact that Keri Hilson is absolutely GORGEOUS, she can sing, too. This song is a different sound for her in that it’s definitely more dance/pop compared to what we’ve been hearing from her, but you know what?  It works.

Toni Braxton feat. Trey Songz – “So Yesterday” – I’m on the fence about this one still … maybe it’s one of those that needs to grow on me. I dunno, but I’m posting it anyway because it’s new music by Miss Braxton.

Rihanna feat. Justin Timberlake – “Hole In My Head” – Good track. On a side note: JT is sounding more and more like Timbaland everytime he shows voice these days. Rihanna is totally reminiscent of Nelly Furtado in this one, too. That’s all I wanted to point out. I’m not NOT gonna stop dancing to this one, though.

50 Cent feat. Ne-Yo – “Baby By Me” – oooooooooh Fitty! You so crayzaaaaay!

Dondria – “You’re The One” – If Rihanna’s vocal chords made love to Keri Hilson’s, Dondria’s is what they would sound like.

Janet Jackson – “Make Me” – Janet’s using what her brother taught her and’s totally bringin’ it again.  The thing I love about this song is the old school kick!

Rihanna feat. Youg Jeezy – “Hard” – I like this song. I think it’s good and I think Rihanna’s coming out of her “shell” (the emo one) nicely. Some would say slutty, I say … ballsey. She’s trying to make up for her past-self these days … I’m still on the fence about how I feel about her … musically, though, I think she’s well on her new way.

Lloyd feat. J. Holiday and Nikki Minaj – “Take It Off” – Pretty much everything Lloyd has done, I’ve sincerely liked. My favs? “Southside” with Ashanti and “I Want You” (True Remix) feat. Nas and Andre 3000 … but here’s his newest:

Shakira feat. Lil Wayne – “Give It Up To Me” – I’m not a Weezy fan by any means what-so-ever … I AM, however, a big Shakira fan. In a nutshell, this song is HOT.

Robin Thicke – “Sex Therapy” – Ok, Robin Thicke is goooooooood, man. When he first showed face on the music scene and his identity became known, I almost shit my pants. I mean, Alan Thicke’s son? REALLY?! But, the dude can sing and he’s got soul … and it’s good.

Beyonce feat. Lady Gaga – “Videophone” – I. Love. This. Song.

J-Lo “Louboutins” – I’ll tell you why I’m TOTALLY feelin’ this song. The Dream produced it. It’s smooth and not your usual-choppy-J-Lo-flatness that we’re used to with J-Lo. I love J-Lo, don’t get me wrong, but let’s all be honest and face the music: she ain’t a musical artist. BUT, with the right producer, anyone can be an artist. This is like the best and worst thing ever.

New Boyz feat. Ray J. – “Tie Me Down” – aight aight aight … I like this one! I don’t cuuuure what you say … you know you’re gonna groove to it, too.

La espera ha terminado. Rated R (Def Jam/Universal) sale hoy a la venta, 23 de noviembre. La misma semana en la que otra superventas como Lady Gaga estrenará su ‘The fame monster’. A partir de esta semana entonces podremos escuchar íntegramente el nuevo trabajo de una cantante que no publicaba ningún disco desde 2007. Poco a poco se están desvelando los destalles de Rated R, un disco muy esperado y que confirma un cambio radical en Rihanna, que ha pasado de una chica buena en su tercer álbum, ‘Good Girl Bone Bad’, a mostrar su lado más oscuro. El álbum sale a la venta nueve meses después de que la estrella de 21 años fuese agredida por su ex novio y cantante Chris Brown. Rihanna ha asegurado que grabar la ayudó a apaciguar su dolor. Since there weren’t any choices, it goes to Michael. It goes to him not because he was the best this year but because he died this year, let’s keep it real. This music industry is so politically inclined they couldn’t just say we are giving MJ the accolades we haven’t given out of guilt…maybe if more of us were supportive and loving toward one of the greatest to ever do it then maybe the people closer to him would have done more to protect and take care of him.

Looking forward to seeing who actually wins! Maybe the industry can take notes from the AMAs by giving awards based on sales and not politics since sales mean PEOPLE chose the winners! *Pardon me Grammys* but the voters are not necessarily in tune with the music…I’ll get on their case in another blog coming soon!
