Today (4 september) is Rishi Kapoor’s birthday. It appears only yesterday that he made his debut as a teenage hero in “Bobby” (1973). But in reality that was 39 years ago ! How time has flown. Now it is his son who is a teenage heartthrob and Rishi Kapoor these days plays old man’s roles.

My image of Rishi Kapoor’s films are light hearted non serious movies where he would romance Neetu Singh. And that was easy because the two were in fact love birds. Carrying out romance in front of movie cameras and getting paid for that- what a life it must have been !

On the occasion of Rishi Kapoor’s birthday, here is a song from “Rafoo Chakkar” (1975) which in a way is a decent enough illustration of the kind of light hearted non serious roles that he used to play in Hindi movies.

The picturisation shows Rishi Kapoor and Paintal cross dressing and travelling in the company of girls in a train. Not content with merely posing as girls, they burst into a song too, in the voice of Asha Bhonsle and Usha Mangeshkar !

Here is this song from “Rafoo Chakkar” (1975) which also has a line sung by Mahesh Kumar and severaal lines sung by the chorus as well. The song is picturised on Rishi Kapoor, paintal, Neetu Singh, Faryal, Asrani etc.

When ordinary people want to go down memory lane in their personal lives, they need to look for their old photo albums. With movie personalities with long successful careers, all they need to do is to watch their old movies. In some cases, where these film personalities began early, viz as child artists, they can relive their childhood by watching these movies.

I must say I am quite envious with people like Neetu Singh who had things so easy in her life. She acted in films right from the time she was a child and got paid for it. when she grew up, she began acting in lead roles, mainly opposite Rishi Kapoor. Unlike most Indian couples in love, they got to carry out their romance in the open, in front of the camera and they got paid for that. And in the end, she managed to get married to Rishi Kapoor too, despite initial reservations from Rishi Kapoor’s parents. Today Neetu Singh may be known as the mother of Ranbir singh, but it must be said that her life must have been a series of dream coming true happenings for her.

Today (8th july) is her birthday. On this occasion, here is a song from “Do Kaliyaan” (1968). She was a child artist in this movie and in fact she was the central character in this movie. “Do Kaliyaan” in the title indicate two twin girls, both played by Neetu Singh. One lives with the father and the other with the mother and it is needless to say that the husband and wife fight with each other and separate, taking one daughter each. what an equitable distribution of children ! It certainly helps if the warring couple have identical twins with them.

The two kids are admitted to the same class in the same school, but the two parents are unaware of this fact till the last reel. So movie watchers are not the only ones who are required to leave their brains behind while watching a Hindi movie.

Here is a song from this movie which is sung by Lata nd it is picturised on the Neetu Singh who stays with the mother (Mala Sinha). In this song, she watches happy families where the kids are loved by both parents. What she would not give to have a family like this.

Here is this song from “Do Kaliyaan” where a pre teen Neetu Singh (then known as Baby Sonia) lip syns in Lata’s voice. Sahir Ludhianvi is the lyricist. Music is composed by Ravi.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Prakashchandra.

Meera-bai (c. 1498-1547 A.D) was a mystical poet and devotee of Lord Krishna When most people think

Meera-bai (c. 1498-1547 A.D) was a mystical poet and devotee of Lord Krishna

When most people think of Bollywood cinema, they usually think of extravagant costumes, seductive dance moves, and lots of melodramatic overacting. While all this extravagance is certainly an integral aspect of the industry, you may be surprised to learn about a saintlier side of Bollywood that I will discuss here today: the use of Meera-bai’s texts in Hindi film music.

Meera-bai was a 16th-century mystic whose devotion to Lord Krishna has been immortalized in Indian culture through her poetry and bhajans (religious songs). Meera, a Rajput princess, was married off to a prince at young age, but this marriage did not satisfy her as she already considered herself the spouse of Lord Krishna. Her husband died in battle soon after their marriage and Meera became a widow at an early age. Meera transformed her grief into spiritual devotion and wrote many poems in praise of Lord Krishna. In her texts, she worships Krishna from the perspective of a lover longing for union: romantic on one level and spiritual on another. Although her undying devotion to Krishna was initially a private matter, public moments of spiritual ecstasy soon outed her to society. Eventually, her brother-in-law became displeased with her excessive devotion for Krishna and made several attempts on Meera’s life. The most well-known story describes how he poisoned Meera’s prasad and made her drink it, but the Lord transformed the poison into amrit (spiritual nectar) to save her life.

Meera-bai’s texts express themes that are highly pertinent to heroines in Hindi cinema from the Golden Era. Interpreting and contextualizing Meera’s love for Lord Krishna can be a challenging task, however, because of its apparently paradoxical relationship to acceptable gender norms for women at the time. On one hand, Meera could be considered the ideal Indian woman for the eternal devotion she displays toward her lover–in this case, Lord Krishna–in spite of all the obstacles placed in her way. The type of selfless devotion and sacrifice Meera-bai displays toward Krishna is the same type of devotion that Indian women in the chauvinistic climate of the ’50s and ’60s were expected to provide their husbands. On the other hand, Meera-bai actually subverts the typical pativrata norms established by Indian society because her devotion is misplaced. Instead of serving her human husband, Meera devotes all of her love to Krishna, which is inconsistent with society’s expectations for the dutiful and virtuous Indian wife. This is further complicated by the fact that Meera, in her mind, actually considered herself to be the wife of Krishna (and supposedly conducted a marriage ceremony with a Krishna idol at a temple).

In any case, it is undeniable that Meera’s texts contain universal themes about love, pain, and devotion that have permeated several mediums of the South Asian cultural sphere. Here, let’s analyze a couple of examples in order to see how Meera’s words have been used in the context of Hindi film songs:

pag ghungruu bandh miiraa nachii re (Meera, 1947): Meera (1947) is a rare treat for lovers of Bollywood films because it is the only Hindi film ever made that features M.S. Subbulakshmi as both an actress and playback singer. M.S. Subbulakshmi, who was the first musician to be awarded the prestigious Bharat Ratna, is one of the most renowned vocalists in the history of the Carnatic musical tradition. Her singing is ethereal and sublime, and many people have praised her by saying she is modern-day personification of Meera-bai herself! Although she retired from films early in her career to pursue classical concert music, her portrayal of Meera in this film is remembered to this day for its natural and pure expression of spiritual divinity. Words don’t do this woman justice, so just click the link and take a listen for yourself. I’ve selected one of about 20 Meera bhajans that are found in the film; in this particular poem, Meera uses the metaphor of dance to describe her love for the Lord. You may have noticed that the first line of this bhajan was used in another (much less saintly) Bollywood classic rendered by Kishore Kumar and composed by Bappi Lahiri from Namak Haram (1982) decades later.

M.S. Subbulakshmi embodies the spiritual divinity of Meera-bai in the 1947 Hindi remake of the Tamil film Meera.

ghunghaT ke paT khol re, tohe piiyaa mile.nge (Jogan, 1950): I have always thought that one of Geeta Dutt’s strengths as a singer was her rendition of bhajans. She shines here in this Raga Jaunpuri-based devotional composed by Bulo C Rani that has some beautiful words penned by Meera-bai. Literally, the first line translates roughly as ”remove your veil so that you can get a glimpse of your beloved.” However, on a deeper level, Meera-bai is using the veil as a metaphor for ignorance–she is asking us to remove our veils of ignorance so that we can be closer to the Lord.

erii mai.n to prem divaanii, meraa dard na jaane koii (Nau Bahar, 1952): Lata Mangeshkar is brilliant in her rendition of this Raga Bhimpalasi-based bhajan composed by Roshan and picturized on Nalini Jaywant in Nau Bahar. Inspired by a Meera-bai poem, the words here describe how Meera’s devotion to the Lord can is best expressed through love, as she is unfamiliar with the traditional rites and rituals of worship.

jo tum toDo piiyaa, mai.n naahii.n toDuu.n (Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baaje, 1955): V. Shantaram’s Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baje was one of India’s first technicolor films when it was released in 1955. In this Filmfare award-winning film, when the character played by Sandhya fears that she has destroyed her beloved’s (played by Gopi Krishna) dancing career, she becomes so depressed that she decides to reject all wordly pleasures and become an ascetic like Meera-bai. This Bhairavi-based bhajan composed by Vasant Desai is rendered beautifully once again by Lata, who succeeds in expressing the sentiment of Meera’s words about unconditional devotion to her Lord even if he is not faithful to her.

piyaa ko milan kaise hoye rii, mai.n jaanuu.n naahii.n (Andolan, 1977): Asha Bhonsle tends to employ a lot of over-the-top histrionics in her songs, but music director Jaidev manages to get Asha at her pure, unadulterated best with this soulful composition from Andolan picturized on Neetu Singh.

mere to giriidhhar gopaal, duusro na koii (Meera, 1979): Directed by lyricist Gulzar, this film is yet another Bollywood biopic about Meera-bai, and Hema Malini takes the starring role here. Despite high hopes, this film achieved only moderate success at the box office. However, the film’s soundtrack of compositions by sitar virtuoso Pandit Ravi Shankar has certainly left a memorable legacy. In this particular poem, Meera-bai’s words express her singular devotion to the Lord; there is no one else in the world for her except for her Lord Krishna. While Hema falls a little flat in her portrayal of Meera, Vani Jairam actually does a great job expressing the appropriate emotions needed in this rendition and in the rest of the songs on the soundtrack. However, as you may have suspected, Vani was not Ravi Shankar’s first choice of singer for this film–his first choice was none other than Lata Mangeshkar. Lata, however, turned him down, by using the following reasoning:

“How could I? I had already done Meera bhajans for my brother Hridaynath.”

Now, don’t get me wrong, I love the non-filmi album of Meera bhajans released by Lata and Hridaynath. In fact, Lata’s rendition of a similar text ”mhara re giridhhar gopaal, duusra na koii” tuned by Hridaynath for this album is absolutely exquisite. However, her reasoning here doesn’t really make sense to me. Even before her album for Hridaynath, Lata had sung plenty of Meera bhajans for films (see above!) under the baton of other music directors, so I don’t see how this excuse constitutes a legitimate reason to refuse singing in this film. I suspect that her refusal had more to do with some lingering bad blood between her and Ravi Shankar from their prior collaboration on Anuradha (1960): apparently, tensions had flared between the two of them because Lata had failed to show up to a recording session of “saa.nvare saa.nvare” without prior notice.

Hema Malini is way too attractive to pull off being an ascetic in Meera (1979)

jo tum toDo piiyaa, mai.n naahii.n toDuu.n (Silsila, 1981): Although this text is similar to the Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baje song listed above, the melody is quite different because music directors Shiv-Hari have tuned this song to the Raga Chandrakauns, an underused raga that is quite rare in the filmi musical sphere. Lata, unfortunately, sounds a bit past her prime here, but this song is still memorable for Meera-bai’s words and their relevance to the contemporary situation at hand in the film. Similar to the real-life rumors that were rampant at this time, Jaya Bacchan’s character suspects that her husband (played by Amitabh Bacchan) is having an extramarital affair with another woman (played by Rekha). Meera-bai’s lyrics express the anguish and torment that Jaya feels in response to her husband’s infidelity, but she resolves to remain faithful to him even though he is not faithful to her. Interestingly, things also turned out this way in real life–Jaya stayed with Amitabh even though it was widely known within the film community that he had cheated on her with Rekha.

People might say that I have a slight obsession with Amar Akbar Anthony. These people would probably be correct.

So today I was chatting with a friend (who has a new shoe blog!) about girly things when this brilliant idea struck me. An Amar Akbar Anthony (hereinafter, AAA) themed wedding! Its salient features would be as follows:

- You know how modern shaadis have all this, “no gifts please, donate to the charity of our choice” thing? Well, screw that. When you enter the marriage hall, you have to donate blood to the blood bank – a true and deep gesture. And it goes with the spirit – and the starting of the film.

- Everyone knows the groom needs to enter in style. If you can find a monocle, and a man who can speak English fast enough, what better entry, than this? (Juxtapose this with the revolving stage as seen on Band Baaja Baaraat).

- When it comes to dresses and themes, nothing is as rich as AAA. If your girlfriends are all chic, you can dress like Jenny. (That yellow dress with the slit? va va VOOM). If your family is the more conservative type, you can dress like Shabana Azmi did, with her dainty saaris and the pattivratta expressions. And if you like your comfort and intend to be prancing around a lot (no points for guessing which category I intend to belong to), you can always dress like feisty Salma. I don’t think enough has been written about the awesomeness of Neetu Singh in that movie.

- Did I hear you say sangeet? You can have it either small scale – with the one-man band, like Amar (must not digress to thinking about Amar. Oh Amar, you stud, you), or can go all out and do the jingbang a la Akbar, with the qawwaali and the costumed troupe doing co-ordinated dances behind you.

- Instead of mangalsutra, the groom would tie the necklace with the photo of Jai Santoshi Maa. Because if the locket has the power to bring a family of 8 together (ultimately, and not including the various adoptive parents), it sure can be strong enough to keep the union of two souls intact.

- And do I hear you say suhaag raat? Well, here you go:

(Sorry for the grainy quality; I had to take a screen grab from a YT video. But sigh. So yummy).

In our personal lives, we remember various important dates viz bithdays, anniversaries etc of our near and dear ones and greet them on the occasion. Hindi movie personality whom we discuss in this blog also seem like family to us and we discuss them on this blog on important days.

What happens when we forget some important day ? Fortunately someone points it out before it is too late.

As it is, today (18th march) is the 74th birthday of Shashi Kapoor. I had forgotten all about it. Fortunately, Peevesie’s Mom remembered it, even if in the evening. Not only that, she sent me the lyrics of a song on this occasion. She did not note down the lyrics after listening to the song, rather she put it down from memory ! And I must say she has done a great job because she did not miss even a single line. How I wish that I too had memory like that !

So here is this song from “Deewaar” (1975) to celebrate Shashi Kapoor’s birthday. This song is a duet which is sung by Asha Bhonsle and Kishore Kumar and it is picturised on a pretty pretty Neetu Singh and a very cute Shashi Kapoor (these are the words of Peevesie’s mom to describe the two).

Sahir Ludhianvi is the lyricist and R D Burman composed the music.

This song happens to be the 300th song of Sahir Ludhianvi in this blog. 300 songs of Sahir Ludhianvi ! I think we can righly take pride on this fact.

I notice that Sahir Ludhainvi, who did not work with S D Burman after 1957 was the lyricist for R D Burman in this movie. I wonder what transpired and how did R D Burman reconcile with Sahir Ludhainvi who demanded to be paid more than the music director. Was Sahir Ludhianvi actually paid more that R D Burman for this movie ? I request our knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this matter.

I saw tere naal love ho gaya yesterday night. Watching a movie in drive- in is unique experience. Most of the movies I saw in the 90s were in drive-in. As a kid it was a most enjoyable experience.

Right at the start, in the opening credits you see the name. Genelia deshmukh, not d’souza. The first thing that come across my mind was she must truly love him. It may seem cynical but these days women like keeping their own surnames after marriage. Every third female has her last name hyphenated. Now, before you go all feminist on my ass. Hear me out. I’m taking about the female who does it because she thinks keeping her old surname makes her more individualistic than others. I’m talking about the one, that has no individual appeal to begin with. This is the female who uses the hyphenated surname as an accessory, like who she carries an over-sized purse because it goes with her dress. Women who are traditional to begin with, who are conservatives at heart think a hyphen changes everything.

I’ve got nothing against feminists. Infact you always have the best discussions with one. Just the fake one’s annoy the shit out of me.

Either way, there isnt much to read into it. But I know I’d want or like to have my better half to have my last name.

Coming back to genelia there is something extremely attractive about her. Maybe it’s her big eyes, or her general appeal. To me she is similar to a young neetu Singh in her earlier films.

I saw one of their interviews together genelia and her husband they seem very much in love. Puppy love.

The stars came in droves to Genelia and Ritesh’s sangeet ceremony and most of the ladies were dressed in hot pink/yellow combos. Of the lot, surprisingly, I liked Shamita’s look the best and the older ladies Neetu and Sridevi were class personified. The rest were the usual blingy outfits, while the men looked like they didn’t quite know how to dress.

Woke up this morning, got my skirt on, with my rainbows a tank top and a light cardigan, walking out

Woke up this morning, got my skirt on, with my rainbows a tank top and a light cardigan, walking out the happiest ever and then stepped into a soggy atmosphere where it rained last night and then realized…oh its on Thursday. Oh wells though, I can take a thursday any day vs a Sunday or a Monday!

Let me just say my start of February started off pretty well…

Had quite a productive yet strange day at school but I always have strange days at school so it’s not a bad thing I guess. When I got home, I skyped with a friend of mine. Have you ever met someone for the first time and just hit it off well with the first conversation? Well this is that friends. July 2010 was the most memorable and amazing time of my life. I traveled alone to Houston, TX for a family friends wedding. My family has known them for about 20+ years. Some of their family lives here in Raleigh and some in other parts of the world. A portion of the family is from England, I remember when the England family would come down to Raleigh when I was about 4-7 years old, they would either adore my ‘cuteness’ as a child and how amazing of a dances I am or we would make fun of their British accent and the only thing their accent reminded me of was Harry Potter.

Many years later finally meeting them at an older age and remember just the best of times with the whole family! It was great! Once specific person from the family who I skyped with yesterday is about 7 years older than me and in fact her Birthday is coming up on February 10th! Aparna Mark, she’s seriously an amazing person and basically my older sister. We never really think about our age difference much though, it’s just all the things we share in common and enjoy together is what makes out friendship. Even with so many miles apart we keep up with one another every now and then, she really made my day and week yesterday! Love her!

Another thing which brought a great start to the month was a ‘lecture’ from another best friend who I every now and then talk about. You’re probably thinking, “why would one want a lecture?” but when someone tries to make you smile and assures that they care for you, that’s the kind of ‘lecture’ any person would want especially when it comes from a best friend! Thanks Akash!

Lastly before going to sleep, I watched a glimpse of the 18th annual Color Screen Awards. I mostly just watched Shahrukh’s parts and how much of a fool he always makes himself by cracking these pathetic jokes which everyone laughs at either way because of his adorable smile and dimples and then when he brings his arms out to a romantic Yash Chopra song! I also watched the amazing Priyanka Chopra’s performance, she is just flawless! She looked gorgeous as always and she can do any dance and still look graceful. She is one of the fewest actresses who can really pull of a sari well, I just admire her amazingness! I have heard or read from all the other actors that she has done a fantastic performance at filmfare awards as they have already filmed the function this past weekend!

Its great having twitter, honestly… I remember back in 2009 when I signed up for my twitter account I only signed up to stay updated with the real actors life and ever since I get all my news about films through twitter along with other world news! I think I only had 10 followers too for a very long time then I finally convinced people to get on that twitter wheel and slowly, slowly people were finally doing so.

Below are some clips from the Colors Screen Awards!

Education can create Awareness, but Awareness does not depend on Education. Watch these young women

Education can create Awareness, but Awareness does not depend on Education.

Watch these young women (and young men too) question accepted norms, risking their lives. (Video shared by Shail on facebook)

Here are some of the questions they ask,

“All the rules of the society, modesty, honor, duty etc are for women only?”

“When they (the parents) chose their honor instead of me, cracks appeared in our relationship…”

“How can honor be saved by killing one’s children I just don’t understand.”

“Increase in awareness is making them afraid of losing their authority…”

To hear what the elders have to say, watch the video.

Here’s one gem,

“Amongst us when a girl is married it is a bond for seven generations, such a bond can’t be created if they (the young) choose their own partners, such bonds can’t be formed between high and low....”

“The person I have to spend my life with, the elders will decide who I want to live with? I can’t decide whether I want to live with this man or that man? I will decide who I want to spend my life with.”

The elders claim,

“They want that it should all be equal, we should live like animals. They want our traditions to be squashed so that there are no restrictions on them.“

‘Monika always told me “I want to adopt a girl child and I want to show this world how to raise a daughter…”‘

“I was told you are a Jat and you are making this film, you are cutting your roots… community members will tell you these kids are completely alienated, they are in a completely different world..”

“When things got out of hand, they threatened my mother by saying that they would treat her daughters in a way she would never forget”

And that’s the respectable way these community elders behave.

‘Izzatnagar ki Asabhya betiyaan’ (The Immoral Daughters in the Land of Honour…)

Rajesh Khanna had become an overnight sensation in late 1960s and early 1970s.The kind of adulation that he enjoyed in his heydays was something indescribable and that could only be known to those who lived in that era. I was fortnate to have lived in that era and seen it first hand.

But this superstardom lasted a few brief years and then it was a steady decline for the top for Rajesh Khanna. By the time Rajeshg Khanna realised what went wrong, it was too late and his superstardom was gone, and it was taken by Amitabh Bachchan.

Rajesh Khanna spared no efforts in getting his top position back, but he failed, despite giving his best in his second innings as an actor, which arguable gave us movies that were perhaps could even have been better than the movies that he acted in during his early and successful days.

Today (29th december) is Rajesh Khanna’s birthday and his die hard fans remember his birthday of coourse. Prakashchandra, who like me experienced Rajesh Khanna’s charisma and phenomenon firsthand had sent me the lyrics of a few songs on this occasion.

Here is a song from “Mahachor” (1976). This song is sung by Lata and Kishore Kumar. It is picturised on Neetu Singh and Rajesh Khanna. Anand Bakshi wrote the lyrics and music is composed by R D Burman. This song was one of the innumerable hit songs that Rajesh Khanna figured in.

On this occasion, I on behalf of this blog and its members wish Rajesh Khanna a very happy birthday.

“Aainaa” (1974) , despite being a movie of recent vintage by the standards of this blog

“Aainaa” (1974) , despite being a movie of recent vintage by the standards of this blog is quite an obscure movie. Different sources are not even clear about the year of release of this movie.

This movie was a production of a South Indian Production house called Kalakendra Films . It was produced by L.Durai Swamy and N.Selvaraj. K Balachandar was the director. This movie in fact was a remake of a Tamil movie also produced by the same team. The starcast of the movie included names such as Mumtaz, A.K.Hangal, Nirupa Roy, Manmohan Krishna, Lalita Pawar, Adil aman, Rita Bhadhuri(fresh from her Film Institute days), Jayasudha, Anjum Savera,Vandana Rane, Yasmin,Baby Seema,Kalpana, Ratan Chopra,Jagdish Raj, Polson, Brahmachari, Madhukar, Suraj, Master Paresh Kumar, Madan Puri, Rajesh Khanna( In special appearance), Jagdeep, Suresh chatwal, Prem kumar, Master Jagannath etc etc.

The story of this movie revolves around Mumtaz, the elder daughter of a big Brahmin family having many sisters and brothers.Mumtaz is forced to sell her body, to meet the financial needs of her big poor family sacrificing her own life for the welfare of her family members.

The picturisation shows shooting of a song sequence for a movie where a song is being shot on Neetu Singh and Dharmendra, and the picturisation also shows Kamal Hasan. Kamal Hasan, who was introduced by K Balachandar was one of the dance directors in this movie. This shooting is being watched by the villagers, including Jayasudha and her paramour who then imagine themselves in the picturisation instead of the film actors. The villagers visible in the picturisation are Jayasudha(blue saree),Adil Aman(black shirt),Ratan Chopra (wearing sweater)and a unknown face ( she could be Vandana raane or Anjum Savera), and Lalita Pawar(green saree).

Listening to the song, one could well imagine it to be a Laxmikant Pyarelal composition. It comes as a great surprise to realise that this is a composition of Naushad. the public taste had obviousy changed and so most oldtimers, including Naushad wee forced to change their music to cater to the changing tastes of the music lovers. I remember listening to this song and liking it too, but all thiswhile I never had a clue about the details of this song and the movie.

This song is a duet sung by Lata and Rafi. Jaan Nissar Akhtar is the lyricist.

Here is this superb song from “Aaina” (1974). The lyrics of this song as well the details about this movie and the picturisation were sent by Prakashchandra.

Song-Jaane kyaa ho jaaye (Aaina)(1974) Singer-Lata, Rafi, Lyrics-Jaan Nisaar Akhtar, MD-Naushad

Lyrics(Provided by Prakashchandra)

jaane kya ho jaaye
jab dil se dil takraaye
sach hai pehle pehle lagta hai dar
ho o o
pehle dil ghabraaye
phir aisa jaadoo chhaaye
dil ko reh naa jaaye
dil ki khabar
ho o o
jaane kya ho jaaye
jab dil se dil takraaye
sach hai pehle pehle lagta hai dar
ho o o
jaane kya ho jaaye

chhalke badan se kaliyaan gulaab ki
koi misaal kyaa,
tere shabaab ki
paayega kyaa tu
har bhed khol ke
aankhon se aap ke
nazron mein tol ke
chhalke badan se kaliyaan gulaab ki
koi misaal kyaa
tere shabaab ki
paayega kyaa tu
har bhed khol ke
aankhon se naap ke
nazron mein tolke
jaane kya ho jaaye
jab dil se dil takraaye
sach hai pehle pehle
lagta hai dar
ho o o
jaane kya ho jaaye

nazrein milaake
chaahe tu jhoom le
zulfon ko bhool jaa
khushboo ko chhoom le
mehke jawaani baahon ke haar mein
reh jaaye hosh kyun
chadti bahaar mein
nazrein milaake chaahe tu jhoom le
zulfon ko bhool jaa
khushboo ko chhoom le
mehke jawaani baahon ke haar mein
reh jaaye hosh kyun
chadhti bahaar mein
pehle dil ghabraaye
phir aisa jaadoo chhaaye
dil ko reh naa jaaye
dil ki khabar
ho o o
jaane kya ho jaaye
jab dil se dil takraaye
sach hai pehle pehle
lagta hai dar
ho o o
jaane kya ho jaaye

Ever wondered why the evergreen Tina Munim, the beautiful Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and the stunning Neetu Singh have looked bulkier after marriage?

Every girl dreams to look best on her wedding day and puts in all her efforts to tone the body in order to look stunning in her wedding dress. You go on a strict diet regime to impress your love. But what happens after the ring is put?

Studies show that weight gain until two years of marriage increases upto 20 pounds.

Below are a few reasons why women put on weight after marriage-

* Pregnancy

One of the main reasons for weight gain post marriage and the most important phase in every woman’s life – Pregnancy, It’s when a woman takes extra care of herself.

Women are more focused on staying healthy and hence become less active, and also tend to overeat during this period. Since they are restricted to certain food items, they happen to eat less healthy foods and this worsens the problem. Post pregnancy, the child become the center of attention and women stay at home, looking after the family and catering to the child’s needs.

It is advisable for expecting mothers to watch their weight, eat healthy food and spare some sometime for exercise.

* Less exercise

A woman’s responsibilities multiply after marriage which does not give her time to exercise.

Now that they have their priorities of looking after their husbands and children, women reduce paying attention to themselves. They get so engrossed in cleaning the diapers, setting the house and other chores that the exercise from their schedule get eliminates, thus resulting in weight gain.

* Cooking

Most women after marriage fall in love with the kitchen and spend a lot of time cooking and feeding the family. The more they are appreciated; the motivated they get to cook more. All the cheese, cakes and pizzas become a part of the meal to impress the family with their culinary skills.

* Eat more

Marriage involves celebration; and this means more of eating. The list of dinners and lunches never ends and women don’t realize how many pounds they would have gained in that process.
If the partner has a heavier appetite, women too end up increasing theirs. And sometimes they are forced to eat more in order to look good.

Also, when there is a child in the house, mothers end up finishing the left-over food, leaving aside their taste, such that the food doesn’t go waste.
