In disappointing news this week, Lion have announced that they will be closing the Mac’s Shed 22 brewery on the Wellington waterfront (Press releases here and here). The brewery has apparently served its purpose in allowing Mac’s to still be marketed as craft beer and is now costing too much – I guess it’s what you expect when an iconic craft brand is purchased by one of the big breweries. Anyway, can you please stop all the ‘crafty’ marketing and definitely stop calling Mac’s Gold ‘all malt’ when it now appears to be watered down with sugar – that’s false advertising! The Mac’s brand and beers have done a lot for beer culture in NZ and in many way it’s great that they have taken things to the masses but for me it’s probably now moved too far away from what I found appealing in the first place.

In far more positive news – The McCashin’s who started Mac’s but sold the brand to Lion in 1999 are back up and running in the original Stoke brewery which they maintained ownership of (see this Nelson Mail article for more info). The brewery was originally the Rochdale cider plant and this is now back in production and one of several beverages being produced. The brewery shop is now open and I popped in today to check it out – while no beer is yet being produced (beer is listed on their website so watch this space), you can fill your own riggers of locally brewed Founder’s or Golden Bear selections, as well as Rochdale Cider. I picked up Golden Bear’s Best Bitter which was rather tasty.

I was also given a sample of a new beverage called Fruté, which is cider mixed with real fruit. This isn’t something I’d usually be into but it’s very nice and possibly way too easy to drink on a hot day (though the tartness from the cider kicks in at the end). I not very good with obligation-free samples so I had to purchase some. Other products include the recently purchased 26000 Vodka (flashy website but bloody frustrating and not particularly useful) and Palaeo water. It’s really good to see the brewery up and running again and I wish them all the best.

I keep a gratitude journal and update it almost daily. It wouldn’t be hard for me to list out the things I am thankful for. But let’s give it a try, anyways.

I’m thankful for the family I was born into. The closest relatives I have in Houston is my mom’s first cousin, Tita Edith’s, family. Tita Edith’s kids, Anthony, Joanne, and Gino, are the cousins I grew up with and the cousins I will be connected to in the future. They’re pretty awesome human beings. Seeing them this past Thanksgiving was amazing and I’m thankful for them. We don’t see each other a lot, but I’m trying to change that and become more involved.

I’m thankful for the family I chose. I was able to see my great friend Chloe. Her mom and step dad were Mr. and Mrs. Clause for the Uptown Park Lighting Festival. Her husband, Chris, couldn’t go, because he recently had surgery on his collar bone and  going through crowds wouldn’t have been smart. Chloe’s great Uncle George couldn’t go either, because of the crowds, as well. He has a walker and it would have been hard to navigate through the crowd. So Chloe invited me. I hadn’t seen her in awhile, since school has been taking up my life. And it was awesome to see her. She is one of the nursing school friends I am working hard to keep.

Afterwards, I spent the night at Jackie’s. Her family was having a late Thanksgiving dinner. Jackie has a sister, Eva, who I love dearly. She is the type of person who has such an open heart. She knows that I am important to Jackie and has welcomed me in their family whole heartedly. Jackie’s mom and dad have made me feel welcome as well. I’m glad I was able to spend time with them, too.

I had a lot to be thankful for this Thanksgiving. I had more than enough shares of turkey! And got to spend time with loved ones. The only time I spent alone was when I was driving.

I got my replacement phone today. It didn’t come with a SIM card, which defeated the purpose of getting my phone, but I just bought one at the TMobile store. I was able to get ahold of my loved ones through Google Voice. I had this phone number for my side business as a photographer. But it came in handy because I was able to text and make calls through the internet. If anyone needed to get ahold of me, they could text my Google Voice number and all the texts would go straight to my email. Pretty cool!

My great friend Lizzie’s wedding is tomorrow and I cannot wait to celebrate her and Nelson’s union. I asked many people to keep Lizzie and her baby in their prayers. And with the grace of God, she and her baby girl are doing well and are healthy! If that isn’t something to be thankful for, I don’t know what is.

When I woke up this morning, the first thing I saw was this angel’s face.
And having her in my life is absolutely a great blessing that I thank God for everyday. She has changed me in ways I could not fathom. I hope the start of the holiday season has treated you well.

Quatro anos é muito tempo quando se fala em amizade, quando se quer tornar um profissional verdadeiro e capacitado. Quatro anos não são quatro dias quando se fala em construir sonhos profissionais e contatos importantes para toda a vida. Estou falando sobre faculdade.
Nesses quatro anos pude conhecer pessoas incríveis e que me fizeram crescer tanto no lado profissional quanto pessoal, independente de terem marcado ou não capítulos da minha vida.
Existiram pessoas que, logo no primeiro dia de faculdade, já se aproximaram de mim. Uma amizade se manteve apesar de não ter continuado a faculdade por questões financeiras, outra se afastou por algum tempo e, embora tenha tentado alguma aproximação maior, nossa amizade nunca foi a mesma e nós duas sabemos o motivo. Falo de Flávia Helena Moreira e Estefânia Oliveira.
Outra amizade muito grande e fiel que tive desde o segundo ano da faculdade foi com a Elaine Santos, que sempre se mostrou amiga e companheira e jamais me abandonou, nem mesmo nos meus maiores equívocos. Embora também tenhamos nos afastado há algum tempo, não deixou de ser algo passageiro.
No primeiro ano, como estamos pouco experientes, costumamos jurar amizades eternas e não ousamos imaginar quaisquer desentendimentos. No primeiro ano, também me enganei ou vivi uma amizade que pensava ser verdadeira. Talvez fosse. Mas, no segundo ano, as coisas mudaram e continuam inexplicáveis, pelo menos para mim. Deve ser coisa de faculdade. Falo de algumas pessoas que deixaram de falar comigo, e em especial, a Melisa Lemes. Confesso que não sei o que houve, mas nunca desejei mal algum a ela.

Elaine, Meire e Michelly

Houve uma pessoa que foi muito criticada ao longo dos quatro anos por seu gênio forte, sua personalidade original e maturidade evidente, mas que desde sempre foi uma pessoa amiga e companheira, falo de Meire Moreira. É complicado admitir que pessoas mais velhas saibam mais possuindo uma realidade diferente das nossas, mas a Meire sempre soube ser jovem e mostrou que tem talento e muita inteligência. Ela enfrentou desafios que muitos talvez nem ousassem. Aprendi muito com ela e creio que ela também tenha amadurecido muito nesses quatro anos.
Dividi meu local de trabalho com muitos colegas de classe, como: Filipe Chicarino, Tamiris Correa, Paulo Ricardo, Luana Correa, Elaine Santos, Gabriel Fini, Hugo Barbeta, Endrigo de Oliveira, Ana Elysa, Mauricio Rebouças. Acredito que não me esqueci de ninguém. Acrescento ainda que aprendi muito com cada um deles, seja dividindo experiências ou pedindo alguma orientação. Todos tiveram papel importante em minha carreira profissional, de uma forma ou de outra.
Filipe Chicarino, por exemplo, foi uma pessoa com a qual trabalhei e construí uma amizade muito grande que, algum tempo depois, acabou sendo abalada por alguns conflitos, mas nada de tão grave que não pudesse ser sanado com o tempo, embora nada possa voltar atrás e ser a mesma coisa. Ironia do destino ou não, hoje ele está com a Estefânia Oliveira, minha amiga dos primeiros anos de faculdade.

Filipe Chicarino

O segundo ano foi o ápice. Acredito que tenha sido o auge de todos: não digo pelos desentendimentos, mas pelos conflitos ocorridos que creio que sejam necessários para o amadurecimento de todos nós. Passei a conhecer um pouco melhor uma pessoa muito especial e, como estava programado para ser, a ‘forte amizade’ de antes se transformou em coleguismo. Falo de Mauricio Moura.
A faculdade é um ambiente muito bom para se viver. Os desafios e desentendimentos existem, pois todos são diferentes e isso é o que nos faz crescer. Embora tenham se passado quatro anos, apenas no último pude estreitar amizade com algumas pessoas com as quais, pouco me relacionava, como: Karina Pontarolo, Carlos Alberto, Marcela Rocha, Lucas Caponto, Josiane Bittencourt, Lauren Moraes, Natália Moreira e Liliane Pimentel. São pessoas com as quais pretendo fortalecer ainda mais os laços e seguir com uma amizade verdadeira.

Julio Oliveira foi uma figura nos quatro anos de faculdade. É uma pessoa muito centrada e educada. Acredito também que seja um excelente pai, pois se trata de um excelente profissional e amigo.
Josafá Moraes é uma pessoa cheia de mistérios para mim. É um padre muito bem articulado e, ao mesmo tempo, cheio de graça. Gostaria muito de poder ter uma amizade com esta pessoa, que julgo ser boa, apesar do pouco contato que tive com ele.
Outras tantas pessoas tive o prazer de conhecer, embora não tenha me envolvido tanto: Edmeire Bortolassi, Gabriel Teodoro, Paulo Henrique, Vanessa Guimarães, Graziela Staut e Pedro Hummel.

Eduardo Gois foi uma pessoa incrível com a qual pude contar em momentos estratégicos, um deles foi ao final deste ano, 2009, quando estava prestes a terminar a faculdade, desempregada e ele conseguiu um serviço na faculdade a fim de que eu ganhasse desconto. Fora isso, ele é amigo e companheiro e, posso dizer que, um bom chefe também (risos).

Elisangela Cavalheiro é sinônimo de inteligência. Olho para ela e vejo uma profissional repleta de potencial. Acredito muito em sua personalidade e sensibilidade. É uma pessoa madura e, ao mesmo tempo, brincalhona. Muito responsável, sabe a hora certa de descontrair. Adorei conhecê-la! Também pretendo continuar com essa forte amizade.

Falar do Oswaldo Corneti é brincadeira! Ele é uma pessoa de outro mundo. Como ele mesmo define: é viciado em café, bandas de rock e uma boa bebida. Ele é uma pessoa excêntrica e amiga. Merece um prêmio de popularidade e criatividade!

Nem preciso dizer que os professores foram os principais integrantes dessa equipe de pessoas maravilhosas: Irmã Luzia foi uma das primeiras. Muitos tiveram dificuldades em sua disciplina. Filosofia não é para qualquer um, não é verdade!
Adriano, sempre sério, até hoje ajuda seus ex-alunos em qualquer problema relacionado à diagramação e informática. Uma pessoa muito especial.
Vou sentir saudades das aulas do Jefferson de fotografia; do Adilson; do Jackie (apesar das dificuldades); da Bianca, que desde o início quis que fosse minha orientadora e, desde o 2º ano da faculdade me ajudou nas pesquisas.
O Liu nem se fale! É uma pessoa muito boa e compreensiva. Gosto dele pelo simples fato de atender àqueles que se dedicam e correm atrás do conhecimento.
Neide Aparecida foi uma professora exemplar que, mais tarde, caiu em minha banca de TCC junto ao “mau” Ednelson, que também é uma excelente pessoa, além de ser também muito sentimental. Admiro esse professor também como profissional.
Eriberto Carvalho é uma pessoa também muito especial, além de um profissional exemplar. Acredito que ele tenha tido um papel fundamental em meu processo de aprendizagem na faculdade. Tudo o que ele dizia sobre inferência e intencionalidade faz sentido hoje, e muita gente cansava de escutá-lo dizer essas palavras. Eu, particularmente, gostava, apesar de também ter tido minhas dificuldades.
Lembro-me muito bem das aulas da Lúcia de sociologia. Ela adorava falar sobre suas viagens ao Canadá!
Aulas boas eram as do Maurílio: quando convocava os alunos para assistir às aulas, faltava. Mas, é uma boa pessoa. Sabe o que faz e possui bons contatos.
Fafate Costa…essa professora sabia muito! Adorava suas aulas principalmente porque ela tinha muito para nos passar. Aprendi a gostar de TV com ela.
Marco Bonito era um dos melhores professores que a faculdade já teve e perdeu. Ele sabia usar de criatividade para realizar suas aulas e sua exigência e inteligência cativou a todos os alunos, sem contar que influenciou muitos a deixarem o Estado, porque ele conseguiu se destacar e brilhar fora daqui, mostrando que é possível.
Fábio Corniani, um grande amigo de Marco Bonito, é uma pessoa culta e jovial.
Não vou dizer que tenho trauma do Nelson, porque é sacanagem. Gostava dele como pessoa, apenas suas aulas que eram um pouco distantes do Jornalismo em si, mas quem soube lidar com as aulas dele, com certeza se deu muito bem agora no final, porque diagramação está em praticamente tudo e é o que é exigido saber, muitas vezes, no momento de uma contratação.
O Ademir era outro profissional excelente que ficou pra história. Aliás, sua disciplina era História do Jornalismo. Ele, com seu jeito simples, sabia passar a informação e dava liberdade para cada um se expressar. “Você tá vendo?”, “Tem que mergulhar de cabeça”.
Eliane Freire é uma pessoa que vai deixar saudades não só por causa de suas aulas extraordinárias, mas por conta de seu profissionalismo e inteligência. Foi uma excelente professora, que sempre dava dicas importantes.
O Francisco era o braço direito da Eliane e vice-versa, porque um sempre prestou ajuda ao outro e ambos são muito inteligentes e exigentes.
Miguel é um exemplo de um aluno prodígio que conseguiu se destacar e hoje é um profissional repleto de dedicação e disciplina.
Cris Valéria conseguiu fazer o que muitos tentaram e não conseguiram: quatro telejornais em um ano com todos os alunos participando. Parabenizo-a por isso. Acredito que ela só tenha pecado pela distração, porque no mais, ela foi muito boa.
Viviane foi uma professora, em minha opinião, dedicada, gostava de suas aulas, apesar de não possuírem um pouco mais de dinamismo que precisávamos para termos atenção, dinamismo este que sua substituta, Adriana, soube passar com altivez. Não digo que uma é melhor que a outra, é tudo questão de estilo. Ambas souberam passar suas experiências, bem como os demais professores.       
Por fim, desejo, do fundo do meu coração, que todos tenham um futuro brilhante e que, se por algum motivo, o destino nos colocar juntos novamente, que possamos agir sempre com mais maturidade e companheirismo, sem que nunca nos falte o principal: o respeito.

Last night, I put out a plea for Americans like you to email and call the four ‘moderate’ Senators most likely to affect the voting on the health care bill being forced on Saturday night, 11/21, by Dingy Harry Reid. Senators EVAN BAYH, MARY LANDRIEU, BILL NELSON and BLANCHE LINCOLN.

I’d like to thank ERIC ODOM for linking us to his many readers. I’d also like to thank the editor that drives this machine, Dee, who had to sort through the two thousand or so responses that came in to our appeal. Additionally, thousands more must have gone out that did not, or could not, take time to comment. To say that we were surprised, thankful and gratified would be an understatement. AMERICA is alive and well…God bless you all and KEEP UP THE HEAT!!

At this writing, it appears that Bill Nelson may be feeling bullet proof enough to vote in favor of the unhealthy America bill. Either that, or they have promised him the world to get him to betray his constituents and his country. Likewise, Mary Landrieu has been offered a 100 MILLION dollar pork sandwich. In her typically opportunistic and weather vane fashion, she may be unable…scratch that…unwilling to forego bestowing this largesse that belongs to OTHER Americans in her state, which already had BILLIONS of Federal dollars pumped into it, apparently accomplishing very little, other than greasing skids for bureaucrats and politicians. It’s business as usual in Louisiana.

It’s just possible that these Senators have been promised some cushy  assignment in a ‘future’ Obama administration, or perhaps a lush job with a ‘K’ Street lobbying firm should an aroused electorate bounce their useless carcasses out of there. DON’T put anything past this bunch. It should be readily apparent that they no longer serve the interests of the United States of America, its Constitution or its people. They are on a purely Marxist ideological drive to fundamentally change America into something which AMERICANS don’t want, and which in point of fact is DIAMETRICALLY opposed to the will of the people.

I’ve known for a long time that Americans were outraged and getting more steamed by the minute…but after reading some of your comments…if I were one of those Senators, I’d be damned uncomfortable.

DON’T STOP NOW!! I hate to keep picking on him, but Mark Levin has asked his radio listeners to call, email and write these four and all members of the Senate as well. He has a huge audience. We shut down their phones today as their message boxes are full. Keep calling, emailing and writing those letters. Be courteous but be firm…it’s ok to tell them off but do it in a civil manner. Don’t kid yourself into thinking it’s not having an effect because it IS! A lot of these politicians are looking over their shoulders to see when the pitchfork mob will show up on the horizon…and DESERVEDLY SO.

Don’t listen to some of the supposed ‘conservative’ turncoats in the lame stream media, they are just somebody’s lapdog anyway, and chances are I’VE got a larger readership than most of those clowns.
Keep the kettle boiling under these jokers…America for Americans now! This is our country and it’s damned sure worth fighting for!

This is going to be short and sweet today. The four Senators names you see above are the ‘moderates’ that Dingy Harry Reid has to have to pass the Senate version of the health care monstrosity, waiting out there to enslave you and ALL your antecedents, all 2074 pages of it.

Republican Senators intend to force a reading of every word of it in prime time. It’s all according to Senate rules so it doesn’t look like the DeMarxists can stop it. It will take between 34 and 54 hours to accomplish, by which time there will undoubtedly be some squirming going on while various Senators reach for their hemorrhoid pads. Whatever Americans that are out there who are not tar-and-feathers angry about this fraud, WILL BE  by the end of this reading. Either that or they are brain dead. In point of fact, Senate rules call for THREE readings of each new piece of legislation. Look for Republican Senators to insist on it.

This legislation is NOT health reform, it is a criminal enterprise reinforced by the full force of the the US Government. It will lower the living standard of every American and will condemn many to an impossible state of poverty. It will impoverish our children and their children. It will not cost any 849 billion dollars either. According to the Heritage Foundation the ACTUAL cost will be 2.44 TRILLION dollars. Let’s see, between Dingy Harry and the Heritage Foundation…I’ll take the Foundation.

The DeMarxists don’t want you to know about that. In fact, there’s very little in that legislation that they DO want you to know about.
This is likely to come up for a vote within the next week. We can influence this thing and possibly stop it by contacting your own Senator and the four Senators shown above. Call and email them and let them know that we will hold them responsible for their vote. Their own constituents are against this bill but there is HUGE pressure on them to vote for it.

Dingy Harry wrote a couple of pages in there especially to entrap Mary Landrieu…about 100 million in pork if I recall correctly. The White House, Rahm Emanuel and the Democrat leadership are in full court press to get these Senators to ignore principle and betray their constituents and YOU, the American people.

So much for short and sweet. Call and email the Senators listed below and let them know we stand WITH them as long as THEY stand on principle. Let them know also that we WILL work to hound them from office if they vote for this travesty.

Olipas tunteita varisyttava keskiviikko. Jouduin soittamaan 10.30 sinne Beach Cafeen. Minulle sanottiin, etta soitappa uudestaa 30 min paasta. Kiehuin kiukusta miten ne kohtelevat tyontekijoita, mutta tein tyota kaskettya. No 11.00 minulle sitten sanottiin etta ole taalla puolen tunnin sisalla. Jouduin siis heti lahtemaan matkaan. Kun olin ajanut ehka 30 metria pyora alkoi taas pitaa ihmeellista metelia ja takapyora heilui poikittain! Nyt se oli sitten taman pyoran tuomionpaiva. Soitin pahoitellen kahvilaan, etten paasekkaan tanaan tulemaan. Se Diana, toinen kahvilan omistajista, vastasi ja alkoi raivota mulle puhelimessa ,ettei tuo ole mikaan syy olla tulematta toihin. Ota taxi tai kavele! Menin ihan hamilleni ja oikein pelastyin. Minun piti sitten soittaa toiselle omistajalle ja han tuli hakemaan minut laheiselta koululta ja heitti toihin.

Kun saavuin sitten toihin, vain 10 minuuttia myohassa, Diana otti minut puhutteluun. Kaikki tapahtui niin akkia, etten edes muista shokissa ollessani kaikkia sanoja mita se amma kaytti, mutta lopputulos oli etta sanoin itseni irti!

Oli varmasti matkan paras paatos, ja voin nyt paremmin kuin koko viimeseen kuukauteen! Ja pitka kannustuspuhelu maailman parhaalta aidilta auttoi tekemaan paatoksen, etta lahden 3 viikon jalkeen ( joka on minimiaika siina asunnossa) jatkamaan matkaani iloisena kunnon Sallana, enka jaa nyhvaamaan omaan alakuloisuuteeni enaa paivaakaan taalla Nelsoniin. Kyllahan ma olin itsekkin ajatellut sita mahdollisuutta, mutta kun se tulee viela toisen sanomana, kuulostaa se parhaimmalta mahdolliselta asialta mita voin tehda. International Men’s Day is an international event celebrated on November 19 every year. It was inaugurated in 1999 in Trinidad and Tobago and was supported by the United Nations, and received in principal support from men’s groups in USA, Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Caribbean. Speaking on behalf of UNESCO, Director of Women and Culture of Peace Ms. Ingeborg Breines said of IMD: “This is an excellent idea and would give some gender balance.” She added that UNESCO was looking forward to cooperating with IMD organisers.

The objectives of celebrating an International Men’s Day include focusing on men’s and boy’s health, improving gender relations, promoting gender equality, and highlighting positive male role models. It is an occasion for men to highlight discrimination against them and to celebrate their achievements and contributions, in particular for their contributions to community, family, marriage, and child care. International Men’s Day is celebrated in Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, Australia, India, United States, Singapore, United Kingdom, Malta, and South Africa on November 19, and global support for the celebration is broad.

The functionality of men is so essential that the absence or presence of a father determines the future of the family and ultimately that of the society. Behavioural scientists have concluded that Dad is destiny. The father is a compass that navigates the youths through the vicissitudes of life. I encourage the world to not only highlight the plight of men’s countless delinquencies, but rather offer them the opportunity to be redeemed. Since forgiveness is more powerful than vengeance and mercy more needed than criticisms, how long will we continue to emasculate our men rather than show them the way? Some men feel victimized by the responsibility of the role that society has ascribed for them to perform. There needs to be much more discussions on the functionality of men, materials that not only stimulate our sexuality but equally our mentality and also our spirituality. Below I have included some of my poems that honours, respects and also provide a road map for the reconciliation and atonement for men. Thank you for your attention and my message to the men is to become the change you seek.

Viime viikolla en saanut monena yönä nukuttua, löydettyäni Nelsonilta epämuodostuman.Vasemman takajalan yhden kynnen tilalle oli nimittäin kasvanut omituinen, yököttävä ruskea ja kovahko muodostuma.

Syöpä! Mutaatio! Amputaation alku! Itkin hiljaa yhden yön. Aamulla katsoin villasukkaani iloisesti raastavaa koiraani surun murtamana, otin sen syliin, ja koskin kamalaa ydinjätekynttä vielä kerran.

…ja murunen kuivunutta kakkaa putosi matolle, paljastaen hyvin normalin piskinkynnen amputaatiotuomion saanesta takatassusta.

Tästä toivuttuani kiikutin lapsen eläinlääkärille omia hermoja rauhoittaakseni, oikein perusteelliseen kropelointiin. Mitattiin lämpöä, kuunneltiin keuhkoja, laskettiin hampaita ja etsittiin trooppista matoa sydämestä. Maitodieetistä saatiin lupa vaihtaa isojen poikien kroketteihin.

Onneksi jotain pientä yllätystä oli sentäänluvassa. Nelsonia vaivanneeseen kutkaan ja näppylöihin löytyi tohtoritädin mikroskoopista vastaus: sarna!

Sen seitsemän pesuliuoksen, tabletin, tahnan ja pentupunkkitipan jälkeen menin kotona tarkistamaan sanakirjasta, että mikä se sellainen sarna oikein tarkalleen ottaen on.

Boy, if this doesn’t get your blood boiling! When you read this article, you’ll see these liberals will go to no end and try all kinds of hidden deceptions to pass their unconstitutional health care bill. A  cloture vote Saturday Nov.21,  by Senators on whether even to start debating the bill. With Republicans seemingly united against the bill, Reid will need all 60 Democrats to vote against the filibuster.

What Reid wants is for the Senate to vote to proceed on a bill that has not been seen, not read, not studied by the very Senators from whom he wants to force a vote. If this bill is so important, why isn’t it imperative that our Senators actually get to see the thing they are expected to vote on?

And that isn’t the worst of the unconscionable dirty tricks that Reid is playing with this “important” legislation. He’s also planning on a bait and switch tactic once he gets his vote to proceed.

News is that Reid wants to use a Senate procedure where a bill can be swapped out with another on the floor. He wants to bring an unassociated bill to the floor and once it gets there he wants to swap that bill out with the health care bill. In other words, he wants to bring a fake bill to the floor and pull a bait-and-switch act to suddenly plop before the Senate the heretofore unseen health care bill. Then he wants to force a quick vote before Christmas.

Under pressure from the White House, Majority Leader Harry Reid says he plans to bring a health care reform package to the floor of the Senate next week, and his goal is to see it passed by the end of the year.

But he faces an uphill climb in getting the required 60 votes necessary to start debate.

Pelosicare? Reidcare?–The Shell Game Continues

CORRECTION: Amid conflicting reports and information on the timing of the health care bill, HUMAN EVENTS just received clarification on possibilities under the rules for the Senate schedule next week.

There are also 30 hours of post-cloture debate that, if used, would delay any adoption of a Motion to Proceed until Friday afternoon which would then be the earliest Reid could offer the actual Senate bill as a substitute amendment.  This would be the Friday before the week-long Thanksgiving recess.

Apparently oblivious to the unpopularity of the government takeover of America’s health care system, Democrat leaders in the House and Senate continue to lay the structural groundwork for the final passage of a health care bill this year.

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) revised the House calendar yesterday to include Monday, December 21 and Tuesday, December 22 as possible days the House will be in session and voting. The previously-targeted date for Christmas adjournment was Friday, December 18.

The House will be in recess for the Thanksgiving holiday the week of November 23.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) on Tuesday night filed a Motion to Proceed to bring the House health care bill to the floor for debate by no later than Tuesday, November 16.  Reid needs 60 votes for the motion to pass and floor debate to begin.

But Senate sources tell HUMAN EVENTS that he’s doing this only to comply with the constitutional rule that revenue bills must originate in the House. Reid intends to substitute his own bill (whatever that may be) when the measure comes up in the Senate next week.

Pro-life senators could oppose the motion if the Stupak-Pitts pro-life language is not included in the bill before it comes up for this critical vote.  Once the bill is brought to the floor for debate, it will take 60 votes to make any additions to the bill. It is unlikely a pro-life amendment could reach that threshold.

Republican Senators should oppose the motion en masse.  Republicans have been excluded from the entire bill-writing process, and his bill is certain to be as bad (or in some ways even worse) than the bill Speaker Pelosi slammed through the House late Saturday night.  Reid has not yet released a Senate bill with legislative language for Republican or general public review.  The measure is being written behind closed doors by the White House and Democrat leadership.  The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) cost analysis of the Senate bill has not yet been completed but may be available by week’s end.

There is no reason for Republicans to desire to get a bill to the floor.

If any one of the 58 Democrats or the two independents opposes the motion on Tuesday, combined with a united Republican caucus, the motion fails and Harrycare stalls in the Senate.

The Gallup poll released just yesterday shows independent registered voters now favor any Republican candidate over a Democrat on the generic ballot by a stunning 52 to 30 percent.  Yes, that’s the independents.  The American people appear to be more worried about the current Democrat solutions to our problems than the actual problems themselves.

Americans resent being ignored by arrogant politicians who think they know better how to run our lives than we do.  And mocking efforts to make our voices heard really isn’t a very good way to win votes and influence people.

The attitude on display by Democrat leaders in Congress and the White House these days is exactly what led to the Republican takeover in 1994.

The current Senate health care measure teed up for the Motion to Proceed vote next Tuesday is not a bill designated as a budget reconciliation measure.  Should this motion fail, the scenario offered by the Heritage Foundation’s Brian Darling remains a valid means by which the Senate could facilitate passage of a bill through reconciliation this year.  With no changes, it would go straight from the House to Obama’s desk for signature by the end of the year.

There is another scenario to ponder this year in lieu of the House or Senate reporting bills out of committee with the budget reconciliation designation early next year.

H.R. 3962, the health care bill already passed by the House last week, was not designated as a budget reconciliation bill.  However, all three House committees of jurisdiction took measures to certify that H.R.3200, the bill’s predecessor, met all of the budget reconciliation requirements.

But we’re told H.R. 3200 was not reported out of the Budget Committee to the Rules Committee as a reconciliation measure before it was brought to the floor and passed.

Should the Senate pass a health care bill with whatever it takes to get the votes, the House and Senate bills go to conference to combine the two measures that emerge as a Conference Report which is actually the final compromise bill.  The Conference Report must then pass both the House and the Senate.

A concern raised yesterday was using budget reconciliation as a means to pass the Conference Report through the Senate.  Can the Conference Report emerge as a reconciliation measure?

House Rules currently say no, yet we should all be reminded that House rules are what the majority says they are.

The success of any budget reconciliation attempt in the Senate rests on rulings by the parliamentarian.  We all watched as the White House summoned the “non-partisan” CBO Director Doug Elmendorf for some Chicago-style political repartee.  We’ve also seen the integrity of the subsequent House CBO scores collapsing under scrutiny.

How far are Democrats willing to go to get their ultimate statist power grab across a finish line that’s oh, so close? All the way.

Viime viikko oli tosi raskas. Pyora hajosi, ei ollut tyovuoroja ja ilmat olivat huonot. Nyt koti-ikavakin on iskenyt oikein kunnolla ja ajatukset muutenkin ajelehtivat suurimman osan ajasta maapallon silla puolen. Olen kaynyt kavelyretkilla laheisilla vuorilla, koska luonnon keskella oleminen tuntuu jotenkin rentouttavalta ja koitoisalta. Loysin myos taalta Nelsonista Katolisen kirkon, jossa olenkin kaynyt usein. On ihana kuunnella samoja lauluja, vaikkakin eri kielella, kuin Suomessa. Hihii hyrailenkin niita valilla hiljaa suomeksi…

Viime torstaina olin Turkish Delight-ravintolassa tyoharjoittelussa, ja sain sielta iltatyopaikan. Nyt siis tyoskentelen molemmissa paikoissa yhta aikaa. Kyllahan se tulee olemaan rankkaa valilla jos joutuu juoksemaan suoraan toisesta duunista toiseen, mutta ainakin tulee rahaa. Tama ravintola on kylla parempi kuin The Beach Cafe, mutta vaikuttaa silti vahan epailyttavalta. Eras saksalaistytto The Bug hostellista tyoskenteli siella 2kk. Han sanoi tyopaikan olleen “ok”, muttei olisi pystynyt tyoskentelemaan siella pidempaan. He maksavat palkan ajoissa jne, mutta tyoilmapiiri ei ole kovin mukava ja ravintolassa on kuulema kameroita, joten pitaa olla tarkkana mita tekee. Kunnon Big brother! 

Uusi asunto onneksi on osoittautunut oikein hyvaksi. On mukava nukkua omassa huoneessa, enka tunne olevani talossa vain vieraana; se on nyt ihan oikeasti minunkin taloni:) Asuinalua on rauhallinen ja vuorien ymparoima. Aamulenkeilla lahdenkin usein vuorille ja nautin vain raikkaasta ilmasta ja upeista maisemista. Matka keskustaan pyoralla kestaa n. 5 minuuttia. Ginny- nelikymppinen nainen jonka kanssa asun- on todella mukava. Vahan homppa, mutta lamminsydaminen. Olen huomannut, ettei Uudessa-Seelannissa panosteta koulutukseen ja siksi monet tyoskentelevatkin pienipalkkaisissa hommissa, joihin ei koulutusta tarvita. Ginnykin toimii siivoojana ja tyoskentelee vain 25 tuntia viikossa. Ginny ostaa kaikki tavaransa second hand-liikkeista ja kertoo innoissaan mista on minkakin esineen loytanyt. Talo onkin taynna mita hassumpia esineita ja seinat melkeimpa tapetoitu Marilyn Monroe-kuvilla.

On se janna miten oppii arvostamaan asioita vasta kun ne menettaa. No enhan ma miteen viela menettenyt ole, mutta nyt vasta oikeasti tajuaa, kuinka hyvin asiat Suomessa ovat. Esimerkiksi saannolliset tyoajat, kunnon palkka ja hyva terveydenhuolto.  Taalla minimipalkka, josta kaikki aloittavat on 12,5$ eli 6,25 euroa/tunti! Ja tuo “soita 30min ennen tyovuoroa” -pelleily alkaa todella kayda hermoille.

No jos ei muuta niin tulevat viikot ainakin kovettavat minua. Ja kasvattavat tietysti. Jos nyt jouluun asti kestaisin ja sitten sanon hastalavista koko paikalle ja lahden jatkamaan matkaani. Jos taas homma alkaa ottaa viela enemman paahan, katoan koko Nelsonista ja reissaan niin pitkaan kuin rahat riittavat. Eihan mun kannata jumittaa paikassa, jossa olen kokoajan surullinen. Enhan ma sen takia tanne tullut.
