Well, well, here’s a little story of our unforgettable Christmas evening.
We were at our friends’ (Nic, Jackie and Amelie) house this afternoon, having a drink just before dinner, while Zoe and Amelie where playing about. Suddenly we heard two cries: both girls were lying on the floor after trying to get out of the play house at the same time. “Just another fall”, thought mamae and Papa. But Zoe wouldn’t stop crying, and she seemed unusually distressed with the fall. We couldn’t find any bruises, any cuts, nothing. But she wouldn’t stop crying.
To calm her down, mamae started reading a book with her, away from everyone. Zoe was looking at it calmly, and then mamae decided to point to the dogs and cats – and took Zoe’s arm to point at them too. She instantly started crying – it became clear that something was wrong with the right arm.

There we were, rushing to the the Emergency Room of Sydney’s Children Hospital at 18.30, Christmas evening. Luckily there was no waiting, and we were seen promptly by the triage nurse and the doctor. Basically Zoe had a “pulled elbow”, i.e., the joints of the elbow came out of their correct place. The doctor was examining her and put it back in 2 seconds. Two minutes later Zoe was back to normal, laughing, talking, and enjoying a biscuit – in her right hand… What a relief! Papa and mamae started to understand another level of parenthood!!
We were discharged 5 minutes later. So now you’ve got the lotto numbers to play this week: Zoe’s hospital number, which we hope she’ll only use them again when she decides to have a baby in 30 years or so

According to the New York Daily News and People, NeNe Leakes and Kim Zolciak are very close to getting pink-slipped from “The Real Housewives of Atlanta.” Supposedly, the two are making through-the-roof payment demands to participate in season three of the show, not to mention that their constant feuding has gotten on producers’ nerves.

“Bravo has been taking meetings with some notable and wealthy Atlanta women about possibly joining the show,” said a source from the show. “They’re trying their best to keep the process under wraps, but they’re gearing up to make a major move in the third season.”

Just a few days before Xmas! And a quick blog entry for some photos and a video…

We finally managed to take photos/videos of Zoe swimming (as requested by tia Re) when Papa and mamae went together for the lesson. Zoe LOVES it, as you can see below.

On the same day we took Opa, Moni and Lars to Coogee and we managed to have a very nice lunch and a swim at the beach. Zoe couldn’t have asked for more: so much attention and two swims on the same day! She was obviously shattered afterwards and slept so well. We too!

The scoreboard had us beating Houston by ten last night, but in reality, it was at least 20.  With the combination of Houston hitting late 3’s and Denver’s bench playing, the Rockets really had no chance to beat Denver.  Carmelo Anthony had 38 points once again showing that he will be in the MVP hunt when it gets closer to April.

The big story of the night was Chauncey going out in the third quarter with a strained groin.  He is having an MRI today to determine how bad it could be.  Hopefully for the Nuggets, it wont be long.  That type of injury however could be something that could bother him for the whole season.  Ty Lawson and Anthony Carter will have to step their game up in the absence of Billups.

I wrote yesterday about Nene and him needing to toughen up.  He didn’t show it last night.  He was by far the biggest guy on the court, going up against 6′6 Chuck Hays.  Let me remind you that Nene is 6′11.  Nene only had 4 rebounds.  4.  In 32 minutes.  There is only one word for that.  Unacceptable.  It’s time to stop playing like a soccer player and realize you are 6′11 and over 250 pounds.  It is almost time to start the Birdman at center to see how that goes.  Bird had a double double against the Thunder and that was coming off the bench.  We should be guaranteed a double double every game from Nene, yet we’re stuck with triple singles.

Two of our favorite Atlanta Housewives have finally written a check their asse’s cant cash! Accoring to Google news and mediatakeout.com, the duo was complaining about having to pay the light bill during the time of filming because of the increase in price difference from when they are not filming. There are rumors the company is wanting to kick Kim and Nene off the show for causing the uproar and replace at least one of them with actress Victoria Rowell who is pictured below…..

What do you guys think about this decision?

Someone in the Nuggets locker room needs to say something about is mama or something but Nene needs to get mad and play like it. Nene is probably one of the softest players in the league. His size should say different though. We all know his ‘natural position’ isn’t at center but he must play like it. Nene has been in the league long enough to play his size. Take a page out of Kenyon Martin’s book. Be physical, throw an elbow here and there. I don’t ever remember Nene getting a technical foul. I’m sure he has if I went back and looked, but it is rare. Especially for a team that is pretty good at getting techs. A key part of the Nuggets is Nene and him being physical. Last year during the playoffs people called the us the Thuggets. I would like to bring that back this year. Lets beat teams up, make them that much more afraid to come to Denver, at altitude, to play us. Lets start it tonight against the Rockets. Nene, Kenyon, Melo, and J.R. Smith can dominate a game with ease, its time to get physical and show teams that the 2009-2010 Nuggets are a force to be feared in the west.

Rockets @ Nuggets tip off at 7:00 mountain.  Tracy McGrady is back for the Rockets so it should be a great game and matchup for the Nuggets.

Mamae is back. It’s been a hectic week here in Australia, as well as India. For mamae, it was great to be able to visit some spots in Delhi, because in Hyderabad there was no time left for tourism! Two research patients in clinic and a home visit, haha. But the collaboration is now in place and we’ll have to go back there in the near future . But we’ll go altogether next time!

And we’re back to our routine: Sat morning swimming and breakfast with friends;  then pic nic with other friends and playground. Sunday lunch at the Japanese and beach. We’re very lucky this weekend, it was hot and windy, so the heat was mild. We went swimming in Maroubra (another beach south of where we live) and we spent the whole afternoon playing in the water, digging holes and watering the sand. Zoe’s got a new watering can that she loves. We too, because now we can pour a little water in the can at a time, saving us 200 trips to the sea to get more water for her…

As for food, today Zoe had miso soup for the first time. We already knew that edamame (boiled soy beans) was a hit, but the miso soup was a nice surprise. Mamae then added rice to it, and she was eating this strange mix like crazy! Just like mamae and tioZinho when they were children…

Forget about being “Tardy for the Party”! It seems Kim Zolciak and NeNe Leakes may not even be invited to the party! A report claims Bravo producers are looking to replace the feuding stars in the third season of The Real Housewives of Atlanta. “Things with NeNe and Kim have been intense,” a source told the The New York Daily News, “but Bravo feels the show is about the franchise as a whole and won’t let one person stop it.”

The two frenemies are reportedly demanding bigger paychecks from Bravo for the upcoming season and the show’s producers are “so fed up with their diva-esque requests” that they’re “taking meetings with some notable and wealthy Atlanta women” about joining the show in Kim and NeNe’s place.

One person you don’t have to worry about joining the ATL cast of the Housewives franchise is Usher’s ex wife Tameka Foster Raymond. All of the current cast members were very adamant about not allowing her a spot on their show, threatening to walk if she were cast.

“Tameka isn’t very popular in Atlanta,” says the source, who reveals that the 39-year-old was initially in the running. “The producers asked each one of the women how they would feel if she were cast, and they all said that they’d walk. That’s the one thing they’ve been united about.”

Fan favorites Kandi Burruss and Sheree Whitfield will most likely return for the upcoming third season of the show. Nothing is confirmed though, but the network feels strongly about the two women and the only thing that would prevent them from coming back would be a personal decision on the women themselves.

“Kandi was a fan favorite last season. Her audience approval ratings were through the roof,” the insider explains. “And Sheree’s clothing line [She by Sheree] and her catch phrase, ‘Who gonna check me, boo?’ were definite standouts.”

Here is and interesting tidbit about the most god awful show next to Keisha Coles mom and sis…The word on the street is that NeNe and Kim may not be coming back to the show for the third season because they want more doe to act like hood rats…okay, well spoken hood rats I guess.  Honestly, why replace em, just give em what they want…the question is…would N.E. one watch this without them…lol, HELLLLLLL NaaaaWWWWWW !

Zidane passing the torch to Gourcuff?

Zinedine Zidane, Didier Deschamps, Patrick Vieira, Michel Platini, Claude Makelele, Florent Malouda….the list is endless. France has always been considered one of the best countries in producing midfielders. 

All of the players named above played, at one time or another, in France. Zidane got his start in Cannes. Two years after Zidane’s departure, Vieira joined the southern French outfit. Platini started his professional career with Nancy before making a name for himself at Juventus. Deschamps and Makelele find themselves back in Ligue 1, one as a manager and one as a player.

While these players are considered ‘greats’, with the exception of Platini and Zidane which deserve the title of ‘legend’, today’s Ligue 1 midfielders aren’t that shabby either.

Unlike years past, where French league football was usually a “French” sport, Ligue 1 has become more and more diverse and international. And our votes for our Ligue 1 All-Star team shows just that. Therefore, here is a list of our midfielders.

Right Midfielder – Gervinho – (Lille)
No, Gervinho isn’t from Brazil. He is an Ivorian player who plays for Lille this season. But if you were to watch his footwork and dribbling skills, you might think he is a player straight out of Sao Paulo.

Gervinho has only been in Ligue 1 for the last two and a half years. He spent his youth years and the beginning part of his professional career in the Ivorian Premier Division. Then he moved over two the KSK Beveren in Belgium’s second division, where he scored 14 goals in 66 games. His high level of play saw Gervinho to Le Mans, where he played alongside fellow Ivorian Romaric. Still being in too small of a club, Gervinho transfered to Lille this season, where he has made an immediate impact in a midfield which is amongst the best in Ligue 1 (with Eden Hazard, Florent Balmont and Yohan Cabaye).

Gervinho, who has only played five game for the Ivorian national team, has eight goals this season for Lille, where he is tied with Pierre-Alain Frau as the team’s top scorer.

Right Midfielder – Nene – (Monaco)
What can we say? He is the leading scorer in Ligue 1 with 10 goals this season, seven ahead of the second highest scorer on Monaco, Chu Young Park.

Of course, we are going to say that he has the footwork of a Brazilian, and he does. He is great with handling the ball, and looks like your typical Brazilian. Still, there are two other skills that Nene possesses that makes him one of the top midfielders in France.

First, he has a powerful kick. Not only can Nene sneak in on goal and show of his Brazilian dribbling skills, he can also drill the ball from a far distance and knock it inside the goal. Secondly, Nene is superb at set pieces. When he takes the kick, there is just as much of a chance of him shooting it on goal, and scoring, as there is him placing the ball perfectly, and someone else scoring. He also seems to be in the right place when he is on the receiving end or a free kick. Basically, he is very multidimensional.

Central Midfielders - Yoann Gourcuff (Bordeaux) and Moussa Sissoko (Toulouse)
As Zinedine Zidane and Patrick Vieira leave the national team (though Vieira’s absence isn’t by choice), their future replacements seem to be our choices for our two central midfielders for the Ligue 1 All-Star Team.

I am not going to go into these players as much. Both Gourcuff and Sissoko have made their mark on the football scene the last few years. Gourcuff started his career as a 17-year old at Rennes, where he caught the eye of Carlo Ancelotti at AC Milan, where he played three sub par seasons. This lead to him being loaned out to Bordeaux, where he would eventually sign on to play for Laurent Blanc and show his offensive skills.

Moussa Sissoko is the perfect Partick Vieira replacement. A box-to-box player, Sissoko isn’t just ‘good’ on both sides of the ball, but exceptional. He can play defensive midfield as well as Jeremy Toulalan and can attack as effectively as Robert Pires. Sissoko is a product of the Toulouse youth program and the 20-year old has already been with the organization for seven years, which might explain him being reluctant to transfer to another club.

So there you go, our All-Star midfielders. There were many players that didn’t make the cut, like Sidney Govou, Benoit Cheyrou and Miralem Pjanić. But even with their absence, this seems to be a very solid midfield that would excel at any level of play.

For the Denver Nuggets, this season seems to be looking that way. Last year with the addition of Chauncey, the team took two steps forward and began committing to defense and team. This season so far has shown signs of a step back. Trying to outscore the opposing team has been the flavor of the month so far for the Nuggets. The core group of guys, Anthony, Nene, J.R., and Kenyon Martin have the history of doing what they want. Yes, Melo can score at will, J.R. is that way once every 10 games or so, and Nene always seems to under achieve expectations. Chauncey was brought to this team to be that on court coach to keep the goal the same. Defense first, scoring second.

Every team can score. Not every team can defend. Why do you think the Nuggets lost to the 1-15 Timberwolves? They let their guard down and when it came down to it, they simply tried to outscore and failed. So far, they have shown that the loss to Minnesota was a wake up call for defense first, offense second.

After such a successful season last year, tying a franchise record of 54 wins and a trip to the Western Conference Finals, now is not the time to take a step back from that success. This is where Chauncey is really needed. He has gone multiple years of getting to NBA Finals and Conference Finals. His knowledge and leadership is greatly needed for the Nuggets to not only keep up with teams like the Lakers, but to somewhat keep up with themselves. This has the makings of a special season, it just takes last years efforts + 110% more to get over the hump.

La Juve crolla ancora, e questa volta sembra che la crisi sia quasi irreversibile. It seems as though derby season is upon us; there have been quite a few this weekend and next weekend the most anticipated match in Roma’s season (and the greatest derby in Italy) gets underway. But, before we can start our countdown to a good Biancocelesti thrashing, we have to deal with all the derbies (and mundane regular matches) going down this weekend. Shall we?

Football:

Liverpool 2-0 Everton (The Merseyside Derby) – Well, the Scousers went head to head today as strugglers Everton took on strugglers Liverpool. It was a battle of the underachievers, with both Rafa Benitez and David Moyes’ sides badly needing the points and morale boost that come from a derby win. In a season when both sides have fared so poorly both in league and European competitions, it comes as no surprise that today’s match was decided not by a particularly heroic individual effort but by a particularly atrocious performance. A pair of grievous mistakes from Everton defender Joseph Yobo gifted the Reds a 2-0 victory, much to the dismay of the Toffeemakers’ fans at Goodison Park. Yobo put the visitors ahead in the 12th minute, putting his foot out and tipping a long-range effort from Javier Mascherano (which was veering well wide of the net, I might add) past Tim Howard and into the back of his own goal. It was a typically scrappy derby match, and Russian wiz Diniyar Bilyaletdinov nearly leveled the score 6 minutes later in the beginning of what was a very back-and-forth first half. Everton found the back of the net twice and were twice disallowed, but the home support were buoyed by their side’s performance and were left singing at the half despite the score remaining 1-0. However, they wouldn’t be singing at fulltime – their side failed to equalize in the second half with Pepe Reina denying the Blues over and over again, seemingly through sheer determination and a bit of luck. When it finally occurred on 81′, the second error from Joseph Yobo would all but put the game out of Everton’s reach. The Nigerian whiffed on an aerial clearance, leading to a shot from Albert Riera before Dirk Kuyt buried the rebound to make it 2-0. Ten minutes later, it was the away support who were singing as another Merseyside derby came to pass.

Manchester Utd 4-1 Portsmouth – Ah, our first non-derby match of the weekend. Still though, there is a bit of history here – the last time Avram Grant came up against Sir Alex Ferguson on the touchline was in the 2008 Champions League final, with Chelsea just one slip away from being crowned Champions of Europe. Despite being runners up in that competition and in the EPL, Grant was sacked as Chelsea manager, left to ponder what could have been. Yesterday he made his (unofficial) return to coaching, this time as manager of strugglers Portsmouth, who are looking to turn their fortunes around after going through 3 owners and 2 managers already this year. Fergie himself had to watch the match from the stands, as he is currently serving a touchline ban – luckily the match was quite a spectacle, abundant with soft penalties and controversy. On 25′ the visitors were awarded a somewhat questionable penalty which Wayne Rooney buried from the spot. The Fratton Park crowd could not complain too much, though, as 6 minutes later their side was awarded an even more inexplicable penalty which Kevin Prince Boateng was able to convert – apparently awarded for some rather run-of-the-mill shirt tugging by Nemanja Vidic. The teams went into the half level, but it would not take United much longer to find their stride. Within the first 8′ minutes of the second period Wayne Rooney would complete his hattrick with a low shot on 48′ and a second penalty on 53′. Ryan Giggs would top it all off on 87′ with the 100th Premiership goal of his career, making it 4-1 United and ensuring that Avram Grant will have Fergie-related nightmares for a while yet.

Tottenham 1-1 Aston Villa – It’s always difficult to come down after an incredible high. No, I’m not referring to my own struggles with substance abuse (fictional, I assure you), but rather the 9-1 victory which the Spurs were able to achieve over Wigan Athletic last weekend. Instead of repeating that incredible feat, the Lilywhites were held to an unremarkable draw at Villa Park. Gabriel Agbonlahor gave the home side an early lead on 10′, but Michael Dawson was able to level for Tottenham late in the match to earn his side a point and lift them to 3rd place in the English Premier League. Not an overly impressive performance from Harry Redknapp’s side, but they did just enough to keep themselves in the Premiership race.

Chelsea 3-0 Arsenal (The London Derby) – Realistically, there are more intense traditional rivalries in London town; historically Chelsea and Arsenal have been less concerned with each other than their other London neighbours. However, the rise of Chelsea into the big four of Premiership football means that in recent years these two sides have been forced into competition with one another at the top of the table and as a direct result their rivalry has become much more intense. Today’s London derby turned out to be an absolute rout from the Blues, who have been in tip-top form all season under Carlo Ancelotti, decimating Arsene Wenger’s depleted side who have been just shy of top form of late. It was another episode of the Didier Drogba show at the Emirates, with the big Ivorian grabbing the brace to all but destroy the Gunners and keep his fantastic record against Wenger’s side alive – Drogba has found the net in each of the last 9 matches played against Arsenal. Drogba opened the scoring on 41′, firing from close range into the top of Almunia’s net after some impeccable service from Ashley Cole. Just 4 minutes later Cole would again play the role of provider, but this time it was Arsenal man Thomas Vermaelen who turned the ball into his own net – giving the home side plenty to think about as they retired for the halftime interval. Just after the break Arsenal should have made it 2-1 when Andrei Arshavin blasted a rebound past Petr Cech and into the Blues’ net, but the goal was disallowed for an alleged foul on the Czech keeper by Gunners man Eduardo. Despite some dangerous efforts, Chelsea dominated play for much of the second half; their persistence paid off on 86′ when (guess who?) Didier Drogba struck again from a free kick just outside the area, blasting past the wall and away from Manuel Almunia into the back of the net. Ultimately, Ancelotti’s side would cruise to a relatively easy win, taking advantage of a depleted and demoralized Arsenal side to further their dominance atop the Premiership table. Chelsea have now recorded wins this season against all of their fellow big four sides – a positive omen if there ever was one.

Manchester City 1-1 Hull City – Oh, and City drew their 7th straight game after Shaun Wright-Phillips’ opener was cancelled out by a late penalty converted by Jimmy Bullard.

Calcio:

Inter 1-0 Fiorentina – Oh, Inter. I am growing to hate you so. In a game when Jose Mourinho’s side played poorly and were well-met by an organized outing from Cesare Prandelli’s men, it would be a penalty kick which separated the two sides in the end and allowed i Nerazzurri to go 8 points clear atop the Serie A table. It’s so typical of this side to underachieve thoroughly and then get by on the skin of their teeth that I shouldn’t be surprised, but yet I am disappointed each time a more deserving team outplays them and ultimately falls, especially due to this sort of misfortune. I’m not saying that the penalty wasn’t there, but had it not been for Gianluca Comotto’s hotheadedness, or had Alberto Gilardino buried his one-on-one chance against Julio Cesar instead of hitting the post just moments earlier, then Inter surely would have dropped points on the evening. In the end, Diego Milito’s penalty made the difference in a match full of could’ve-beens for La Viola that was perhaps ultimately a shouldn’t-have-been for La Beneamata.

Genoa 3-0 Sampdoria (il Derbi della Lanterna) – The Genovese derby, or il Derbi della Lanterna, as it is known, always produces some fireworks. This year’s was no different, as i Grifoni demolished i Blucerchiati in a game that had as many goals as it did red cards. Omar Milanetto opened the scoring for Genoa on 10′ with a spot kick after Reto Ziegler executed a clumsy tackle in the box. Genoa’s Giuseppe Biava was sent off for handling the ball as he fell to the ground, Sampdoria’s Marco Rossi received two yellows, and his teammate Fabrizio Cacciatore received a straight red late in the match. Meanwhile, Genoa’s Marco Rossi (yes, there are two of them) scored on 53′ and Raffaele Palladino capped off the victory with a spot kick on 75′. An eventful and exciting derby, and also a hard-fought one, which I’m sure an inspection of Antonio Cassano’s shins would tell you. They really don’t like that guy, eh? I bet Lippi calls up the whole team come June.

Cagliari 2-0 Juventus – La Vecchia Signora ha perso contro… gli Isolani? Cagliari managed to pull one (better yet, two) over on their visitors at the Stadio San’Elia today, snatching all three points from a rather toothless Old Lady. I think I’ve waited long enough to say this – Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has certainly been a huge flop at AC Milan this season, but realistically, what has Diego done for Juventus’ offense lately? I’ll tell you what he did today: not enough. Their confidence shattered by a midweek loss to Bordeaux, Juventus fell about play clumsily and were victimized by a sharp and determined performance from the Sardinians. The home side opened the scoring on 30′ when Nenê unleashed  35-yard screamer that blasted into Buffon’s top corner. Juventus struggled to respond, and with their own Brazilian Diego firing well-wide before the half, went into the break with a much-deserved 1-0 deficit. After the interval, Amauri thought he had grabbed a quick equalizer for his side, but the goal was correctly disallowed for offside, leaving Cagliari keeper Federico Marchetti more than happy to pick the ball out of the back of the net. Cagliari also had fair claim to a spot kick after Martin Cácares handled the ball in the area, but the referee adjudged it ball-to-hand and play continued. A late goal would come to pass, but it would not be the strike that Juventus needed: substitute Alessandro Matri turned Fabio Cannavaro absolutely inside-out before slotting past Gigi Buffon in the 89th minute. Both Diego and substitute Alessandro Del Piero would miss absolute sitters for the visitors in added time and Juventus were forced to swallow their second humbling defeat in 5 days, dropping to 8 points behind league-leaders Inter.

Vucigol had me praising the heavens with his 44th-minute header.

AS Roma 2-1 Atalanta – An ugly, nervy, but ultimately deserved away win. I couldn’t be happier. Though dominations at the Stadio Olimpico like the one last weekend over Bari are a joy to watch, they are expected – those are the games that we will always win, because the magic of the Olimpico rarely fails us. However, it is matches like today’s at the Stadio Atleti Azzurri D’Italia that are must-wins for i Giallorossi, because they are the ones where we so often lose our nerve and drop points against teams we would easily beat at home. It’s not called an advantage for nothing, you know. Luckily, Roma was able to pull out a comeback win against gli Orobici today after Fabio Ceravolo gave the home side the lead on 13′. Roma looked decidedly lackluster for huge spells during the first half, but were able to grab a set-piece goal just before the half as Mirko Vučinić nodded home a corner from David Pizarro on 44′. Simone Perrotta was able to give his side the lead 20 minutes later, ghosting into the box unnoticed to head home a cross from Vučinić. After gaining the lead, i Lupi simply fought to maintain it. The substitutions of Jérémy Ménez for Rodrigo Taddei and Roberto Acquafresca for Cristiano Doni changed the entire complexion of the game; suddenly Roma were on the backheel and fighting only to maintain their lead while the home side heaped on piles of offensive pressure. For the most part Roma held up nicely under the waves of attack; Riise almost scored an own-goal on 85′ but instead cleared the ball nicely, while Atalanta had a legitimate appeal for a penalty on Juan two minutes later which was happily waved off. Finally the fulltime whistle blew and Roma were able to take a much-needed 3 points home to Trigoria. We’ve finally cracked the top 10! Rejoice ironically – but only for a second. We have il Derbi della Capitale to think about.

Udinese 2-0 Livorno – The other Bianconeri were able to achieve a much better result this weekend than Juventus. A cracker of a free kick from Antonio Di Natale opened the scoring on 29′, bringing his total for the season to a round 10. 7 minutes later, Antonio Floro Flores doubled his side’s money, heading home after a build-up that was again largely the work of Di Natale. The one-two punch was more than enough to subdue the Tuscan visitors at the Stadio Friuli and le Zebrette ran away with the 2-goal win. I almost feel bad for Sersi Cosmi, fervent Romanista that he is, until I remember that it was his cursed side which sent us on the downward spiral earlier this season from which we are just now recovering (ie, getting Totti back). But then again, Udinese was a part of that spiral too… Aw, to hell with the both of them.

The Hunter finally found his gun!

AC Milan 2-0 Catania - AC Milan were given a golden opportunity to leapfrog Juventus in the standings this weekend, with i Bianconeri dropping points at Cagliari and i Rossoneri overcame Catania in Sicily to make the most of that chance. Leonardo’s side were held to a goalless draw by the Rossazzurri for 93 minutes, but Milan ‘flop’ Klaas-Jan Huntelaar finally made good on his promise to score an added time brace and catapult his side into second place. First the Dutchman sent a low strike in after some lovely control by Filippo Inzaghi, and then only seconds later after the restart he struck again, chipping Andújar beautifully to make it 2-0 for Milan. Well, the Hunter certainly took his time, but it seems that he has finally found his form for his new side – and his timing couldn’t have been better.

Futbol:

Ibra done good.

Barcelona 1-0 Real Madrid (El Clásico)- Well, it might be called El Clásico, but there was nothing ‘classic’ about Spain’s biggest derby this evening. Barcelona and Real Madrid played out a scrappy game in which neither truly came into their stride or were able to showcase their own particular brand of football. Despite injury concerns, Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Zlatan Ibrahimovic were all able to feature in the game, but the big Swede would be the only one to make his mark on the match. The Camp Nou was buzzing with energy as 98,000 of los Culés welcomed their most hated rivals to their home ground. Madrid, however, were not daunted, and were the first to impress, with Xabi Alonso and Kaká putting in perhaps their most impressive performances in the shirt of Los Blancos to date. Cristiano Ronaldo played for a solid hour, but was clearly not at full fitness and unable to terrorize the Barcelona backline as he might have wished. Meanwhile, Lionel Messi caused all sorts of trouble but was ultimately kept fairly quiet by Real Madrid’s defense, who put in a surprisingly solid performance. It was the combination of the substitute Ibrahimovic and Dani Alves which would prove deadly, as the diminutive right-back put in an inch-perfect cross which Ibracadabra struck home with authority to put the home side ahead on 55′. However, that would be the only goal of the match, and besides red cards for both Sergi Busquets (63′) and Lassana Diarra (90′), there was not much other action to speak of. In fact, in light of the last Clásico, in which Barca drubbed Madrid 6-2, tonight’s match was a bit of a dud.

Sevilla 2-2 Málaga (Andalusian Derby) – Sevilla’s closest (and fiercest) rivals are Real Betis, against whom they contest the Derby of Seville. However, with Real Betis currently languishing in Segunda División, Sevilla’s closest rivals in the interestingly-named Autonomous Community of Andalucía are perhaps their neighbours in Málaga, who are currently languishing at the bottom of the Primera División. So, we have the Andalusian Derby; and while the rivalry might not be as intense as El Clásico, I personally found the game itself to be much more entertaining. At the Estadio Sánchez Pizjuán Sevilla were looking to bounce back from a 1-0 defeat in midweek to Romanian side Unirea Urziceni, but they certainly did not get off to a good start. Although in a bizarre incident Málaga substitute Albert Luque was shown the red card from the bench, it was still the visitors who took the early lead. Fernando opened up the scoring for the visitors on 22′, and Duda made it 2-0 just before the half after being set up by Fernando. It seemed as though Málaga were headed towards all three points, but a spectacular second-half performance from Luis Fabiano ensured that the spoils were shared in Seville this weekend. The Brazilian struck first on 58′, heading home past Gustavo Munúa, and then on 72′ struck again, smashing the ball into the lower corner of the net to bring his side level. Both sides fought hard for an equalizer, and Sevilla came closest right at the death with a point-blank header from Fernando Navarro that Munúa probably saved by accident. In the end, each team would come away with a single point in a 2-2 draw that was anything but uneventful.

Fußball:

Bayern München 3-0 Hannover 96 – Well, it seems that die Roten have finally regained their lost form, overcoming midtable side Hannover 96 with ease in a match that featured goals from two of their most talented young stars. Thomas Müller tapped in from close range on 19′ to open the scoring, but Bayern looked shaky at times and were not convincing in their possession of the ball. Constant Djakpa caused all sorts of trouble for Phillip Lahm up the flank, and drew a good save from Hans-Jörg Butt, but was unable to affect the scoreline before the stroke of halftime. Ivica Olic made sure that the visitors got off to a good start in the second half, rising at the far post to meet a Danijel Pranjic cross with his head and double Bayern’s lead. For the rest of the half the home side did everything they could do to reduce Bayern’s lead, but to no avail – it would ultimately be Mario Gomez who would get the last laugh, beating the offside trap on 90′ and slotting home to make it 3-0 for his side. This victory sees Bayern rise to 4th in the Bundesliga standings, while Hannover 96 sit at 12th.

Bayer Leverkusen 4-0 VfB Stuttgart – Leverkusen exit this weekend sitting three point clear atop the Bundesliga table, and it can largely be contributed to one man: Stefan Kießling. The 25-year old striker has been absolutely on fire for his club of late and bagged a hattrick this weekend at the Bayarena to cement his place atop the German scoring charts as well. Kießling struck on 22′, 59′ and 87′, while Eren Derdiyok added a goal of his own on 38′ to complete a 4-0 drubbing of a lacklustre Stuttgart side.

Werder Bremen 2-2 VfL Wolfsburg – Edin Dzeko’s double was not enough for the reigning Bundesliga champions to grab all three points away at the Weserstadion. Each time the young Bosnian scored to give his side the lead, the home side were quick to equalize, and ultimately the two squads cancelled one another out and had to settle for a point apiece. Hugo Almeida and Per Mertesacker were on hand to restore parity for their side, with the latter scoring at the very death in the 91st minute of stoppage time. The sharing of points means that Werder Bremen now sit at 2nd place in the Bundesliga standings, while Wolfsburg remain 8th.

L’Inter vola a +8, la Juve non c’è più, Milan secondo. Spettacolare derby della Lanterna, col Genoa che domina la Samp (3-0)

L’Inter, a 6 giorni dal big match contro la Juventus, va a +8 e si garantisce un buon distacco anche in caso di eventuale sconfitta a Torino. I nerazzurri, dopo il brutto ko di Barcellona, rischiano e non poco contro la Fiorentina (palo di Gilardino a un quarto d’ora dalla fine), ma qualche minuto dopo ci pensa un rigore di Milito a dare 3 punti importantissimi all’Inter, per un campionato che sembra già chiuso a fine novembre.

Sempre più giù di forma la Juve, che dopo il 2-0 di Bordeaux perde 2-0 anche a Cagliari, dando l’impressione di essere una squadra molle e senza idee. Nené e Matri (nella foto) puniscono i bianconeri (ai quali però sono stati negati due rigori piuttosto evidenti), che escono meritatamente sconfitti dal Sant’Elia e ora in 3 giorni si giocano tutta la stagione contro Inter e Bayern. Ma se la condizione fisica è questa, i sensori non possono che essere negativi.

Il Catania regge fino al 90’ contro il Milan, ma nei minuti di recupero si scatena il finora criticatissimo Huntelaar (nella foto) realizzando una bellissima doppietta (pregevole il pallonetto del secondo gol), fissando così il risultato sul 2-0. Rossoneri ora secondi a +1 sulla Juve. Spettacolo a Marassi, dove il Genoa stravince il derby con la Samp. Passati in vantaggio con Milanetto, i rossoblù restano in 10 per il rosso a Biava a fine primo tempo, ma Marco Rossi in apertura di ripresa porta il Genoa sul 2-0. Palladino su rigore fissa sul 3-0 la partita con la Samp che chiude in 9 per i rossi a Marco Rossi (brutto fallo su Bocchetti) e Cacciatore. Vince ancora la Roma dopo il 3-0 a Bari. L’Atalanta meriterebbe qualcosa di più, ma a spuntarla sono i giallorossi di Ranieri che con due colpi di testa (Vucinic e Perrotta) ribaltano il vantaggio nerazzurro di Ceravolo, al secondo gol in A dopo quello alla Juve di qualche settimana fa. Roma a -2 dal sesto posto e a -3 dal quarto.

Nel primo goal subito, Marchisio – finalmente – si posiziona davanti ad un avversario che cerca di battere in fretta una punizione in mezzo al campo: poi, quando la palla passa lateralmente allo stesso Nenè, nessuno gli impedisce di tirare.
Il classico goal fortunoso?
Sì, come quello di Hallfredsson della Reggina lo scorso 26 aprile (finì 2-2): Poulsen glielo lasciò scoccare dai 25 metri. Il risultato, fu un goal fantastico. Di fortuna, certo: valgono anche quelli, però.

A poco serve far notare che una minima reazione c’è stata (Ferrara): col Bordeaux, non si era semplicemente scesi in campo.

La nuova idea di inizio gara è stata quella di rinunciare ad una punta (Del Piero), per inserire un centrocampista in più (Marchisio): non è cambiato nulla.
A poco servono le dichiarazioni del dopo-partita, dove si accavallano proclami di ripresa, “mea culpa” o dove vengono evidenziate le posizioni sbagliate di qualche giocatore (Diego).

I don’t get it,…if you have to do all of that, why not just go out and get a real live women.You will put in the same amount of work, but you have the added benefit of being able to feel and touch a real woman.

I am confused…maybe I am just old-fashioned.

The player can increase their abilities by studying, working out and solving problems of their virtual girlfriend, but if they fail to make their girlfriend happy, the game will restart after 100 days.

I am pretty sure that falling in love with and marrying your video game girlfriend is a sign of some sort of mental illness, and I do not mean to make light of it.

Hopefully his friends and associates will get him some help,…in the meantime he should unplug, go out to a club, and try to pick up some real women.

Naldo comemora com seus companheiros

Pela Bundesliga, o agora vice-líder Werder Bremen deu show, e atropelou o Freiburg por 6 a 0. O zagueirão Naldo deixou o seu de pênalti. Outro que goleou foi o Hoffenheim, que fez 4 a 0 no Colônia, com o jovem Carlos Eduardo vibrando com a galera. Para completar a elite do país, o atacante Grafite converteu sua penalidade  mas o Wolfsburg acabou derrotado pelo Nuremberg por 3 a 2.

Lucas defende as cores do Gamba Osaka

Sem rodada no Campeonato Chinês, o espaço do extremo oriente fica todo para o Japão. Por lá, três atacantes levaram seus times às vitórias no sábado. França para o Kashiwa Reysol, Lucas para o Gamba Osaka, e Edmílson, com incríveis três gols, para o Urawa Red Diamonds.
No domingo, Neto Baiano fez um nos 2 a 1 do JEF United em cima do FC Tokyo, enquanto o meia Fernandinho, que já atuou com as camisas do Vasco e do Figueirense, foi o único a alterar o placar na vitória do Oita Trinita sobre o Kawasaki Frontale.

Danijel Ljuboja: Grenoble's only offense

I thought today was going to be a boring day in Ligue 1. I actually have a flu right now, and thought that this would be the perfect day to relax, sleep, and try to get over this virus.

Boy was I wrong.

If you would have told me that Axuerre would be at the top of the table today and that Grenoble would draw against the mighty Lyon, I would have told you that you were crazy. Seems like I was the crazy one.

So, lets look at our new leaders. At the start of the year, Auxerre was in last place. They started off with three losses, and their fourth game was a draw. In all of those game, Auxerre failed to score a goal. Now, Auxerre has a 7-game winning streak, they have gone from the cellar to first place, and are now a threat to Bordeaux and Lyon.

Today they defeated Monaco, another team that was trying to prove a point. Though The Principality was without Ligue 1 leading scorer Nene, the Monaco side really needed a win today to show that they are a contender for a Champions League spot. The lack of offense, and Nene, spelled doom for Monaco today. Monaco is now in 6th place, just one point out of the Europa League spot.

In untraditional fashion, Auxerre saw most of their scoring threat coming from their back line. Traditional scorer, Polish international Ireneusz Jelen was shut down today with only one goal. But even with the win, Auxerre has to figure out how to increase their scoring output if they intend on remaining in the likes of Bordeaux and Lyon.

Lyon today didn’t look like Lyon. In a game that they should have dominated, Lyon travelled to Grenoble in what should have been an easy 4-0 win. Instead, Grenoble has a two game unbeaten streak.

Lyon did dress their “A-and-a-half-team” today, but that wasn’t enough. Lisandro, Gomis, Govou and the likes were playing for Lyon, but Pjanic, Cissokho and Bostos didn’t. Even with this squad, Grenoble played on the same level as the Rhone team. Both teams had a number of chances, and the score could have been easily 3-3 as it was 1-1. And with saying all that, Grenoble were down to ten men in the last 20 minutes.

While Grenoble did get a point against, what might be considered, the best team in Europe, don’t expect it to happen much. While Grenoble has the same problem as Auxerre (the lack of scoring), all but one goal for Grenoble has come off the foot of Danijel Ljuboja. And in this game, Ljuboja came on as a substitute, and scored after only six minutes on the pitch.

For Lyon, Cesar Delgado got the rare start and scored the goal for Lyon in the 65th minute. After his performance, should Delgado be considered for a starting spot on Claude Peul’s side? Also, Jean-Alain Boumsong started his first game for Lyon today as well.

While Lyon did draw to the worse team in Ligue 1, Bordeaux lost at home to the next up-and-coming team, Valenciennes. Like Lyon, Bordeaux dressed their A-Team, but Les Girondins were without Yoann Gourcuff, who was injured against Ireland in the second leg and will be missing for three weeks.

Valenciennes, who are the highest scoring team this season with 24 goals, netted another one against the strong defense of Bordeaux. The goal of the match was scored by Valenciennes’ leading scorer Mamadou Samassa. That was Samassa’s 6th goal of the year. But while Samassa is the leading scorer, Valenciennes has been highly successful spreading the ball around and giving a number of players the opportunity to score, unlike Grenoble.
